one of the best profs I have ever had.very interactive class, everybody gets answers for their questions,no exceptions.very energetic prof.strongly recommended.
Very Dynamic, Interesting class. Very good Prof. Makes you want to learn the course.
AMAZING. Probably the best prof in the school. I feel that I became smarter and simply better person after his classes. Everything is excellent. Great real life examples, a lot of fun during classes, there is no way you are not engaged in what is going on in the class.
Excellent prof. Classes are never boring and his comments on the essays and assignments are helpful.

Awesome Prof...take him for OBIR 5100 if you can! You'll regret it if you don't!!
pros: is an extrovert and it's quite easy to follow his talks cons; brings many real life examples. cons: only uses the standard slides provided by the textbook publisher and refuses to post these; insists on his opinion; leaves unclear what he wants in the assignments; tests are vague and too much common sense
Although I don't agree with his grading scale, he is an awesome prof. Take the course when he is doing it. Keep in mind though that he does not subscribe to Schulich's recommended percent to Grade conversion but has his own. That should not deter you from doing his course. Very applicable, and practical.
He is not as bad as people think. But he does sometimes come off arrogant and self-important. He knows a lot, but sometimes makes you feel like his opinion is the only one that matters. In general though, you learn a lot. But you might hate him afterwards
Great teacher. Great presenter. Alot to learn from him. His Feedback certainly helped me. Definitely recommended.
The gud thing abt Stephen's class is he makes it comfortable, light-hearted and is nice no matter wat ppl say. BUT, his marking is HORRIBLE. Even if u go above wat he expected, if u dont reference every single line, u'l get a B. he says we'l thank him 4 fixing our english, but no1 othr than him writes like that. he plays favorites n is arrogant.
This guy isn't teaching OB, he's teaching English. No matter how well u do on the content, u'll stil end up with a B if u dont source EVERY SINGLE LINE. He doesn't make class boring but honestly, his marking is something to stay away from. Like the person below said, no Im not thanking u for the English lesson. It was useless.
He is very arrogant and has zero content. Talks and presents well and thats how he seems to get by. I wouldn't recommend him at all.
Good professor, use real world examples to explain OB concept. Sometimes, class discussions get a bit explicit but overall is good. Marking is fair, if you put enough effort into your homework he will notice it and give you a good grade. Overall pleasant experience and enjoy his class.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Prof. Friedman is an excellent presenter and his lively use of examples makes the class interesting. Would highly recommend his course to anyone at Schulich.
He is very personal and opinionized, but open to challenges. However, the class is run more like a talk show than a graduate-level course. The ORGB2 book is awful and not worth purchasing.
He knows how to teach, but is full of himself! The course became more interesting in its latter half when the guest presenters started doing the lectures. He grades fairly, and I appreciated his feedback on the assignments. Pay attention to your English, and spend time on the reflective elements of the assignments.
Good speaker and able to facilitate good discussions that are engaging.
Amazing Professor...highly recommended
The lectures were high on drama and less on content. The classes were not interesting at all. The grading was extremely unsatisfactory and seemed unjustified. The only good thing was the presence of extremely talented guest lecturers in the class which further undermined his teaching ability.
He is the best professor I've had in Schulich so far (3 terms). He has both great great academic knowledge and great great practical experience and skills. Most importantly, I am applying the things I learned from him every single day!
Arrogant and not helpful at all. Huge waste of time and the sad part is the better/best lectures are from the guest speaker.Avoid if possible.
Horrible Prof. Stay away from his class
This is the pro that gives you question marks about why he teaches in "so-called" one of the best MBA schools!Poorly organized lectures.
Stephen is not very approachable. He hardly teaches in class and gives way too much to do in terms of homework. A presentation in the middle of the semester and 4 reflection papers and an LDP towards the end of the semester. The amount of work was so much that I lost interest in delivering quality work.
Seems to be an actor who is playing the role of a professor .. poorly. Avoid taking this course with him. The course itself is extremely over hyped.
Friedman IS tougher than most professors, but he does take our education seriously, and that is what is most important. He grills us on grammar and punctuation because he knows that to succeed in life we need to write better than three-year-olds. Also, I don't get why people are upset he is firm in his opinions. Isn't that the whole point?
Friedman is a terrible professor. He has his favourite students and isn't shy in letting everyone know. You can tell by his positive reaction to some of the most-idiotic comments they make. If you are not a favourite, you won't do well. Also feels no shame in plugging his website and personal coaching side job EVERY SINGLE CLASS. Tacky! Avoid!
A stickler for grammar and spelling. When writing papers, be specific about what you say by providing examples and fully elaborate your explanations. For instance, if you suggest that HR should be more culturally sensitive, you need to state how and back it up.
If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you. However, if you want to learn and would prefer to go to a class where a professor knows what he's talking about, encourages debate and wants to see you grow as a student, then this class is for you. Stephen is an amazing prof who is not only knowledgeable but inspirational as well!
The course material is useless, the same thing is repeated each class. He may come across as intimidating but he marks fairly. Would recommend.
He's a good speaker but a very tough grader. He'll penalize you for grammatical and spelling mistakes. The penalty can be anything! He doesn't teach much but rather asks the students to present a few slides on the chapter and you are asked to read the chapter beforehand! He only "facilitates the discussion". Grading scheme isn't clear at all. Avoid
It feels like he doesn't prepare in the second half of course. He keeps asking details about the readings he assigned, and just reads from the slides he made. The most important thing is, he is very obsessed with grammar, spelling and punctuation, which is not good for international students. If you are not a native speaker, avoid him.
The subject itself is very vague and he doesn't make it easy. I never understood what he expected from assignments and project. If you wrote what he expected , then superb grade otherwise he will give below average. Would not recommend him.
exceptional prof, the way in which he delivers the content is thought provoking and very powerful
I never understood what the Professor expects from his students in terms of assignments. I did not even bother to read the comments he gave after a while because they don't make sense. He contradicts himself all the time in feedback and in classes as well. Also, his classes aren't great because the content is copied for self help books.
Overall a great professor; very enthusiastic and entertaining. He was very practical in terms of relating course concepts to current worldly developments. I looked forward to his class. Assessments are not difficult, but tend to be long in terms of writing requirements.
Amazing prof and is a great speaker who clearly explains certain concepts and is always willing to help if needed, though I didn't find the course difficult. He manages to make every lecture interesting as I found them to go by very quick. He's also very honest and laid-back. Definitely would recommend taking this course with him as your prof.
The course of Managing Team Dynamics is lucrative from its course outline. I too was carried away by it . But believe me this course and prof messed up my whole term. This course has maximum deliverable. You are expected to do best in all of them , subject is too theoretical, prof teaches directly from book & does not post slide in CMD .Worst exp.
Stephen is a good prof. His lectures are funny but also very deep. Would recommend HR
He is definitely one of my fav profs at schulich. His class is one of the few I wasn't checking the clock every 2 minutes because he is incredibly engaging and interesting to learn from. It literally makes my day whenever I see him around schulich. I'm definitely hoping to have him again as a prof in the future.
He makes you play games in the class and gives grades based on the outcome of the game. Who does that at the MBA level? The grading criteria is extremely skewed and you fail at below 70%. You would expect him to mark leniently but he marks tough. Takes out 7-8 marks just like that without any explanation. I am on the Dean's List and I got a B!
Great prof! Very knowledgeable and passionate, makes lectures super interesting! Also, an easy A for ORGS2100 as long as you pay attention to his lectures
Simple concepts are overcomplicated with more complex synonyms you need to memorize. This teacher hates getting emailed and calls out students in class for sending him emails he does not want to answer. He was not helpful at all with preparing for his exam and simply stated it can be on anything. I would recommend to AVOID having him as a prof!!!!!
Hes a cool prof but a little too wacky (intimidating) for my taste. Loves when you speak, so if you like participating youre gonna be good. Midterm was a bit tough but everything else was ok. Not a huge fan of the course content but hes engaging to listen to and will talk to you about whatever. Just make sure you come to class.
Professor Friedman is the best. His energy in class is unmatched. He makes you work for an A, because you gotta show up to class to earn it. He's a compelling lecturer so I really enjoyed attending his lectures. He knows what he's talking about and his exuberance is awesome. I recommend taking one of his classes. I wish I could take another one!
Friedman is a great prof that brings tons of energy to his lectures. However, I would NOT recommend his class if you are looking for an easy A. He is a tough grader and does not give clear guidelines in terms of what he expects on his assignments. I would only recommend his class if you are interested in HR, if not, avoid at all costs.
Not a valuable professor on a master level. The course was full of useless memos and self-reflection paper. The course content is also not helpful at all. Avoid him at all costs
Gives terrible feedback, didn't learn a single thing in his class.
A lot of essays to write and I think there might be a better way to test what we learn in class. Especially since class is so engaging, he follows a more discussion style lecture with aid as opposed to lecturing with slides. Grading guideline is not very clear, expectations on this end were difficult to fulfill.
Not worth your money
A Prof who is way more arrogant than needs to be, has offered little help for obstacles he has himself created for the students. Not approachable at all. Would definitely recommend avoiding the professor at all costs if possible, has no sense of fairness.
The professor talks about himself WAY too much and seems very full of himself, despite dubious career history. He does prepare well for each lecture.
He is a funny professor who cracks some good jokes, but the existence of this class is not very helpful. Sometimes I don't understand what he expects from his students, and he rarely gives "how" to complete an assignment. The feedback is also too general and broad. I don't think he understands how the job application process works nowadays.
Useless class for a MBA and he just makes it worse. Arbitrary grading along with focus on things that solely interest him and are completely irrelevant to any business environment. Pick anyone else for 5150, Stephen will slowly grind you down with the pure 0 value he and this class brings.
Wasted my time, my life. All he do is swearing in class and reply "?" in your assignment comments
A Prof has offered little help for the students. Not approachable at all. Would definitely recommend avoiding the professor at all costs if possible.
This course has got to be one of the most useless across specialized master and MBA programs. Stephen has a huge ego that only cares about opinions and thoughts that lean towards his ideology. Useless feedback. The fact that this prof can teach at such a reputable Bschool proves that Schulich has turned itself into a cash-grab con artist.
He doesn't know what he's teaching and gives ambiguous assignment feedback. He doesn't care what you write for assignments or exams. He ONLY grades based on how much he likes you. He is a waste of your time and tuition. If you want an easy A, go to his class and participate. If you want to learn something useful, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.
I learned a lot from Stephen's class, he is very engaging, asks lots of questions. It's an interesting course. Grading may be subjective.
Absolutely horrible professor, he grades when he feels like. Feedback is ineffective, office hours are useless and extremely limited. Thank you for wasting my time and tuition money Friedman :)
Surprised to read negative comments. Professor Friedman is very pleasant and the class is great. Would highly recommend!
One of the best courses that I have taken in my MBA. Professor Friedman is very supportive and considerate when it comes to class/student experience. I learned a lot in this class and really enjoyed this course!
If you can take a class with him in undergrad do it!! He's my favourite professor I have ever had at Schulich and he really cares about his students and their personal development. lots of reading in this course- but they're all interesting content
waste of time and tuition
Unclear assignment feedback. The professor is also straight-up rude to some students and pleasant to a selected few. Overall, the course was a waste of my tuition.
Again, another ego prof with no real-life experiences. i don't understand why schulich hires bunch of profs with no skills under enterprise setting. good luck on the schulich brand
I agree with the other students, he has some anger issues that he needs to solve, and sometimes he would drop the f*word in the class. He talks about emotional intelligence but he does not have it. At the end, he doesn't practice what he preaches to his students. Don't waste your money.
ORGS6500 was genuinely one of the best courses I've had at Schulich after finishing both BBA and MBA. Professor Friedman was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Learning and applying the knowledge from class improved the quality of my professional and personal life.
He has a very sketchy grading scheme. He acts like he cares about his students, he really does not. When he tells you to "please email me if you are missing class" do not fall for this trap... He acts like he cares but he really does not.
Trying to be respectful with my comment, this professor is like many comments have said lacking emotional intelligence, careless and rude. He has although a bright personality, the benefit of an engaging professor is overshadowed by his disregard for students, a god-awful grading scheme with pretty much no basis and does not respond to students.
Would not take this professor again, his grading schemes are like banging your head against a brick wall through the whole course, they are obtuse and have very little specifics. Additionally, his enthusiasm for lecturing does not translate to effective teaching - attending the lectures DOES NOT help for knowing final exam content.
The professor was rude and heavy handed with his use of profanity during class which creates an extremely uncomfortable environment. The grading scheme was illogical and showed little care for students' improvement. Save your time, money, and mental health and go for any other professor!
This professor is honestly the worst ever. His instructions are so long and useless. He says one thing in the beginning and says something else later. The way he grades is based on his own preference (if he like you, u will get a good grade). this was such a useless course. He talks about emotional intelligence but does not have that
Such great lectures, many of which are very engaging and require participation, but I did not mind this. The only thing that sucks is he is not a good grader, his feedback was VERY generic and not useful. If you want to learn, take his course. If you want a GPA booster, do not take his course.
Professor seems enthusiastic about the course, but provides vague feedback and grading criteria, is a subjective marker for both participation and assignments, and is rude at times when students ask completely fair questions. Attendance counts for participation, but coming to class isn't crucial to success on the exam. Avoid if possible
Going to class was so completely useless, only reason to show up was for participation marks. He never really gave any lectures himself, moreso just made students participate for the entirety of the class. Reading the textbooks and modules is enough to get you the same grade as anyone who showed up every week.
One of the BEST professors at Schulich! Professor Friedman delivers engaging, informative lectures, is approachable, and understands student needs. His exams align perfectly with his guidance, and he fosters a fun and professional environment. Never once did I feel pressure to participate and actually enjoyed participating very much.
You have to read the textbook if you want to do well on the midterm and final. Although he is a funny and engaging prof, the tutorials provides little to no knowledge that needs to be known for the actual tests. If you read the textbook you'll be fine. I've heard he is a hard marker however my group did reasonably well on the group project.
Stephen seems caring for the majority of the term until you get your participation and group project mark back. Criteria for success is accessible, but he provides vague feedback that's honestly kind of snarky. I also had to chase after him to double check my participation mark because he mixed me up with someone else. Sad to end class this way.
creates test worth 40% of grade. only consists of 30 multiple choice questions. truly one of the professors of all time.
Not a good experience for students. Extremely vague and none of his classes have a clear lesson, think of it as going to have a conversation simply. Grades everyone on a same level, regardless of effort, and modules are very wordy and uneasy to understand.
Do not recommend at all. He portrays being a "friendly" instructor but makes unprofessional comments quite often. Course material has the potential to stir insightful conversations but he is too obsessed with his own beliefs and opinions for it to be any bit useful. Does not prep well for exams either. Overall structures course extremely poorly.
Not terrible, a lot of people make him out to be worse then he is. Genuinely cares about his students and recognizes his mistakes. He marks hard, but not impossible to get an A or even an A+ if you do really well on the midterm. Fixed his exam because so many struggled on the midterm, not a terrible guy.
Its one of the courses that has a profound effect but the journey is uncomfortable.
not recommended
The grading policy in this course was extremely vague. The lectures were confusing, and expectations were not clearly communicated. While the professor appeared to promote an inclusive environment on the surface, it became clear during grading. This was deeply disheartening and made the course feel like a waste of time and money.
He will grade a certain preferred person or group good. Not inclusive at all when he grades. He uses his perception while grading. Intentionally will grade very poorly few people, and that is very much evident. He sets the grade in his mind, remains the same regardless of the highest effort. Surprisingly, he shows inclusiveness in class lectures.
Bad grader
Very unfair marking, has his favourites.
