This guy is so funny! He'd come in with Ozzy T-shirts on, and poke fun at his students. He'll work with you after class if you ask for it, and wants you to pass, no matter what. He jokes around a ton, and leads great class discussions. If you don't like to write you'll hate this class, b/c there are a lot of papers. Most pull an A or B though.
He was great, he makes Shakespeare interesting. I really enjoyed his class, I recommend staying in if your thinking of getting out. He wants you to pass, and will help you if you ask for it, and encourages you to ask questions.
This class was great, and this professor was really cool! If you do the reading you are pretty much guaranteed an 'A.' He isn't all that organized, so expect MANY syllabus changes.
amazing professor. he REALLY knows his stuff and will do anything to help you pass if he knows youre working. not a hard teacher. he makes it really interesting and hes a pretty funny guy, laid back and i learned a TON.
I didn't like the poems we analyzed. They were all about either war, drugs, or immorality. That's why I dropped the class.
He was a great teacher, funny, laid back, and very helpful. Sometimes he would answer students' questions for half of class time. We had to write a 15-25 page paper, but other than that, the class was extremely easy. We just read Shakespeare and wrote a couple one pagers and that's pretty much it.
Steve is a great teacher. I've learned a lot about writing from him. The reviews are pretty accurate. He made the major paper easier then what I've heard from other classes. He will give you a hard time if you ask a question he already covered.
GREAT Professor i took this class during the summer. and had about 1 major paper every week to 2 weeks however DR Fullmer knows his stuff and makes class fun. do not go in expecting it to be easy. but getting an A is possible and you will learn a ton. he is well organized and extremely helpful. TAKE THIS CLASS best opportunity ever. heavy metal FTW
Dr. Fullmer is an excellent teacher. While he does simplify writing big papers, it's still not an easy A. Also, he's very funny.
Great teacher! Really fun, tells it like it is. He is just awesome and as long as you read the books it's really not that hard. He is very good about answering questions and is pretty lenient. I would definitely recommend taking his Shakespeare class if it's something you're interested in. You get SO much more out of it than the high school courses
This teacher is the BEST teacher I've EVER had!!!! He is so awesome and REALLY TRULY wants every SINGLE one of his students to pass! I love this guy. He's funny and tells you exactly what he expects from you. DEFINITELY WOULD RECOMMEND TO EVERYONE!!!
Fullmer is awesome, he teaches at BYU also. He is super helpful and really cares about his students. I didn't really want to take an English class, but he has made it one of my favorites.
THIS TEACHER IS SO AMAZING!!! I seriously love him!! TAKE HIM OR YOU'LL REGRET IT! I took his 1010 class and I'm going to take his 2010 class too for sure! He truly wants you to learn and will do anything to help you pass the class. He's so funny and makes class fun to be in! I seriously loved going to class with him as my teacher! Take him!
Professor Fullmer is the shiz. He is very clear and specific in the instructions he gives. He's extremely sarcastic. I can never tell if he's serious or joking about half the things he says. He loves heavy metal bands like Metallica. He'll go on tangents if you get him talking about music or something he likes to talk about. I loved this class.
One of the best teacher in UVU.
LOVED HIM!!! As with the other person who posted, it is really hard to tell if he is joking or not. The class is pretty much all analyzing texts, so if you're not good at analysis good luck. Also, he HATES computers with a passion so DON'T play on the internet!! He is a great Prof. I would recommend him to anyone!
I loved this professor! I really did not like English before coming to this class, but now I actually enjoy it. I thought the class was a little tough, but if you do the things he wants than you'll be fine. He tells you exactly what he wants on the three major papers. Take English from him!!!
This professor is great. Definitely one of the best professor's on campus. You will not regret taking this class.
I have taken 3 classes from him & he is the best English teacher I have ever had! Sure, sometimes Dr. Fullmer isn't afraid to say what's on his mind, but he is passionate about what he does, and he does it well. To say he isn't worth what the school pays him is absolutely wrong & very immature. Yeah sometimes he slips. Deal with it. He's worth it.
Spends a lot of time answering questions in class, teaches you the same thing over and over, and shows favoritism. The absolute worst multiple choice tests ever. Throws in a lot of questions to trick you. Not consistent in grading papers.
this professor is hard and he is ununderstandable. He thinks he is better than anyone,he teach only one thing over and over again.I won't recommend him to anyone.seriously avoid him.
Prof. Fullmer was great! I loved him.. he is the kind of teacher that keeps your attention during the whole class period. He often has the students review each other's papers. He wants to help his students succeed, but he won't compromise dates for exams if you don't have a REALLY good excuse. READ YOUR TEXTBOOKS. I'm taking his 2010 class!
this professor is the way hard. he is arrogant. He is not at uvu to teach he's here just to show how that he is better than every one that's it i don't recommend him.
Took this class as an online course. Each week you read a different play and write a 500 word repsonse to it. Also get two chances at weekly quizzes, which are fairly easy. Don't treat this class as a slack off internet course though. He really wants to see some thought and content put into the responses, he'll call you out on fluff.
I had prof. fullmer for both 1010 and 2010. I think he's a fantastic teacher. If you really make an effort and communicate with him he's more than willing to work with you. You're in college folks; read your assigned reading and write your assigned papers and no one gets hurt.
Prof. Fullmer is a great teacher. His class is easy if you actually go and do what he asks. Sometimes his in class activities seem pointless, but they became really useful when it came to writing papers. He knows what he's talking about and knows just what to do to get his students thinking.
Tried to be as fair as possible in the ratings, but this professor is absolutely terrible. It feels as if the man has no idea what he is ever talking about. He gets angry easily. He's arrogant. As one of his better students, he was actually asking ME questions. I definitely would not recommend Fullmer.
This teacher was very easy. Show up and make comments. He likes you to think for yourself and encourages it in a way no other teacher has for me before. He has strong views, but if you can look past it and not let it bother you like I did you'll learn a lot!
Very helpful. I learned a lot from his class. Ask questions, show effort, and do your best and you will get an A.
I hate English, that said I did not expect much from the class. But Dr. Fullmer mad this class fun. For the first time in my educational life I enjoyed an English class. That's not to say that it was easy, nor am I ready to major in English, but I learned far more from him than I had from 12 years of prior education. I highly Recommend.
Not the easiest class or the best teacher. But if you work hard and show interest in the class, he'll work with you!
Dr. Fullmer is a great teacher! He makes you think and really achieve your best. Take this class and work for a good grade and attend class and you will appreciate it.
I REALLY enjoyed this class. It was tough and a lot is expected but he helps through it the whole time and really makes English interesting and entertaining. I might take another English class just so I can be in his class again. I'd recommend him to anyone who likes learning.
I enjoyed Mr. Fullmers class. He isn't the easiest professor to take a class from. But he is way chill, and willing to work with you. He want's his students to succeed and is interested in you learning something in his class. The hardest part is the fact that he is not very clear on what he expects out of you sometimes. But good professor.
(Took this class online). Cool, down-to-earth guy. Really loves what he teaches--his video lectures were all great! Wasn't always quick to respond to email, etc (which wasn't good since I took it online), but always super understanding when there were technical difficulties, etc. Really enjoyed class!
Fullmer was great!! I loved his class. He was really down to earth and acted like he was one of us. He would call you out if you asked a stupid question and was sometimes a jerk about it but it was hilarious and fun. I loved him and his class.
He is great! He may seem like a jerk sometimes, but he is really a good teacher. He is pretty helpful at times. The papers he requires you to write are not that hard either. Recommended.
I really felt like this class was a waste of time. Going to class is pointless because he doesn't teach. He NEVER came to class on time- he was always 15-30 minutes late. It is hard to take the class seriously when the professor doesn't even seem to. It was an easy enough class; I got an A, but like I said: pointless.
Wasn't too excited about showing up to class. Tests were on things we never went over in the 2010 class, but from the 1010 class the previous semester (which I didn't take from him). Really nic guy, but the class isn't my favorite.
He is hard to understand sometimes and he picks favorites. basically your life sucks if you aren't one of them.
Fullmer is very disorganized, and he couldn't even remember what he assigned us the class before. I took English 1010 with him, and I can honestly say I haven't learned a thing in 2010 that I didn't already learn in 1010. I was always confused on exactly what he expected for our assignments, and his exams had questions on material we never learned.
This teacher is the best teacher i have ever had in my entire life and easily the best teacher here you will learn the concepts and will love his hard rock similes he is so funny and i took every single english class he had to offer
Fullmer is very disorganized with his teaching. It is hard to understand what he expects out of your work. The only thing that you do in class is analysis over and over again. The information that I learned in his 1010 course was the same information that was tested on in his 2010 course.
Do not take his class during the summer, teaches a whole different style of writing than that of what was taught in high school. Very extensive papers that are moderate in size. don't slack off on the paper. Very helpful, Wont help unless you ask for it, so ask for help. very big on analysis, and very open to your analysis but dig deep for it.
Fullmer may be very disorganized. And the papers may be long. But you will learn things you never knew. Fullmer will teach you how to think outside the box. Not a hard class at all.
He was really helpful. He is nice, and you are going to learn how to make analysis. Great Teacher.
He is one of my favorite teachers at UVU. If you want to learn and have fun, take Fullmer.
This is a definite easy class. Easy A but the class is basically him talking about how much better he thinks he is than you.
This was probably my favorite teacher this semester. He actually cares about all of his students and believe in them. He is really funny and will keep you interested the whole time. You have to ask him to explain things for you if you don't understand he'll be happy to answer it.
Learned a lot about writing research papers - super helpful in that area. Everything else...not so helpful. I didn't feel like he was clear...ever. I took his 1010 and 2010 classes distance learning and although he said he supported the program, he couldn't stand us. We were afraid to ask questions for fear of being made-fun-of.
Show up and do the work expected and you will do fine. If you have questions, ask them, you should get the answer. If it is not clear ask him again and ask him to be more clear. He is pretty entertaining. A lot of Shakesspeare, annalysing poetry, writing and research so be ready for that. All in all not too difficult.
He's nuts, but a lot of fun. Definitely an easy A...regardless of what he'll tell you. This is pretty much a zero effort class, and I don't feel like I've learned anything!
He does a great job keeping the class interesting. As long as you don't procrastinate deadlines and have sense of humor the class is a breeze. He is willing to help with any questions and gives a lot of tips in the lecture for quizzes and tests. Good overall class and he really knows his stuff.
He is one of the best professors I have ever had at UVU. He wants his students to succeed and his attitude really makes a big difference. He won't find a stupid excuse to give you an D like some other teachers I've had. You cannot procrastinate in his class or you will not do well, but don't let the syllabus fool you, it's not as hard as it looks.
Wonderful instructor, one of the best at UVU. Expects a lot but never without doing what he can to help you achieve the goals. Very approachable, open, helpful and relatable. Show up, participate and you will get an A. He grades you for your ideas. Lots of analysis and poetry but excellent and interesting group work (required by UVU). Fabulous.
Steve is an AMAZING professor! He is extremely helpful and makes learning fun. I had him for 1010 as well and it was a blast. Papers are kind of long but he is helpful in grading and doing workshops with the class. He is definitely one of the best professors I have ever had! His other classes are amazing as well and definitely a lot of fun!
He is a fun professor. You are expected to do a few papers. The longest is the Research paper, at least 12-15 pages. Shakespeare reading required along with analysis. Lots of workshops and class discussions/lectures. He is fun, a great guy and professor. My biggest complaint is his final had stuff that he never really discussed in class.
Honestly, this teacher did not teach me a thing. I have had a lot of amazing English teachers, and he definitely isn't one of them. He was so narrow-minded that he talked down to other ideas. This was a distance education class (high schools attended via webcam), and I was disappointed by how he treated them (he swore at them numerous times).
Fullmer is an interesting guy. He is very intelligent, but a little disorganized. Dates change a lot and he's a little all over the place. Attendance helps your grade, especially at the end of the semester. He's huge into doing analysis.
Fullmer is a really nice guy. I had him for 1010 and 2010. They were basically the same class, but in 1010 you wrote a research paper that was about 8 pages and in 2010 it was about 15 pages.
I found Fullmer very inconsistent and very narrow minded. I had him for 1010 and 2010 which are alot a like except 2010 has a longer research paper at the end. The paper was 12-15 pages long and he only gave us 2 weeks to execute it. A little unreasonable...
Not really ever clear on what he wanted, but he wants a lot. If you don't know how to do a flow-chart, you're in some major do-do. You better know how to think like him or else you'll fail the analysis part. Good Luck...
I really enjoyed his class. I had him for 1010 and he's funny and open to new ideas. If you have a question, he'll answer it right away - even if it means him stopping mid-sentence. He's really nice and easy to get along with and I'm looking forward to taking 2010 with him next semester :)
He is an awesome teacher and wants you to do well. He is way funny and so helpful. He will answer any question even if it takes up most of class. But the class isn't easy. The essays and papers are very intimidating. This class is not meant for lazy people. You have homework every night and pop quizzes every so often. But overall, great class.
Teaches well, keeps things interesting, learn a lot, few things are little difficult, other things if you try you will do well. Nice guy, will take classes in the future from him.
A professor that's about teaching you to think as much as he teaches you about class material. Brilliant and down-to-earth, I looked forward to his class. He adapts his teaching to each class and is open-minded. Brings his unique character into the classroom and challenges students to do so. Epitome of what an Honors Program professor should be.
Professor Fullmer is one of the coolest English teachers that I have had. He comes off as a jerk at first, but if you get to actually know he is SO awesome. The class was decently hard for only a 1010 class, but he is really down to earth and will help you out if needs be. I would recommend him to the students who are willing to actually work.
I had him while doing distance ed through PGHigh and this man was an excellent teacher. If you fail this class its because you either didn't pay attention or didn't care to put effort into your work. And btw a 12-15 page research paper isn't bad, we had over a month to do it. Just show up to learn.
You read alot of Shakespeare plays. He has only 8 assignments in the class and that is including tests. The tests are 12 essay questions. 2 one page essays single spaced, typed and 10 written answer (paragraph size) questions. Sometimes, he forgets to assign them so he might skip the tests completely. He's weird and doesn't post anything on canvas.
Set me up for success and personally helped me with everything even when I thought I tried to be invisible
Others are saying this class is good if you are not lazy. Lies. I got an A- and I hated every day. Here is why. Disrespectful. Do not disagree with him (especially on heavy metal, he loves heavy metal.) He will yell at you. His Final (part 3) basically a trick test. Every question is a trick. Beware. Do NOT get this teacher. I warned you.
Class isn't terrible. He is sometimes rather funny. But, I felt he was rather disrespectful at times - especially to the distance ed students. 4 major papers and a final. We read the Hobbit, Taming of the Shrew, and Macbeth. He usually provided a rubric of what he expected on the papers which was nice.
In one word, Disrespectful. If you happen to have a different opinion than him, he will seriously yell at you for 5 minutes! In my class someone disagreed with his love and passion for heavy metal, I was sweating and cringing for them during the verbal beat down he gave the fellow student. So I didn't speak. Disrespecful and mean. Do not take.
Fullmer was pretty good about all the assignments and graded I'd say pretty on key. He was pretty bad at responding to requests for help. I asked for an example paper and he never responded to it. For my final rough draft he liked it, but left no comments for me to revise, but he was still really positive about it. Pretty standard, average teacher
Dr. Fullmer is amazing! He knows so much about Fantasy Literature and has such a passion for it. All test where take home tests and as long as you put effort into it you will get a A+. I learned so much in his class and highly recommend everyone take it.
I took Fullmer's Shakespeare class online & liked it! It is well-organized (read play & write response & take quiz 1x a week for 2 weeks in a row, then write a longer analysis paper on the 3rd week, then repeat for rest of semester). It's time-consuming, but not hard. Fullmer gives great feedback & lectures, but was slow to answer emails.
Professor Fullmer is to put it kindly *kind of out there* but as long as you do your work and show up, you should be able to pass. He has temper tantrums and can be a bit of a hot head, but He does know his stuff. I can say it is never boring! ;-) I am taking his class again next semester.
Dr. Fullmer is amazing! His class was my favorite this term. I looked forward to coming to class every day and there never was a boring day. He is super helpful, kind and fair. He is down to earth and funny too. I recommend him to anyone!
this man is a stupid man i dont know why uvu still has him as a teacher!! he doesnt reply emails and acts useless DONT TAKE!!!! FOOLISH MAN!!
Dr. Fullmer was a great teacher! He was really into what he was teaching making this class easy to understand. He is very helpful if you have any questions or concerns. Even though he has strong opinions he is good about seeing the other side(well other than heavy metal). I would strongly recommend him as a Writing and Rhetoric teacher.
I absolutely adore Fullmer. I took two classes from him and I would take more if they were offered. His tests are take-home and very long but you get at least a week to do them so if you work on them a little each day you are just fine. He will give you an A if you show you work hard and make a clear effort. He is understanding if you talk to him
He's all over the place, but he's a great guy. Don't go in expecting a well structured class - but not in bad way. The class is enjoyable, you just need to do your work.
Worst professor. He was very disrespectful and I was terrified to ever make any comments. He didn't ever respond to emails, even when he says he does. Took this class distance learning and he often changed his criteria and would then dock you points for not doing what he initially said even though he changed it. Worst experience.
Fullmer is absolutely INSANE. He's very disrespectful toward the distance education students--turns off his microphone in the middle of class and talks bad about them with the students in his actual classroom. Tough grader, horrible short stories and essay assignments, not clear with directions. I was not a fan.
I am completely shocked by how childish this professor makes his students feel. Not only does he make students feel dumb for asking questions, but he only puts up quizzes online for one day before taking them down and not letting you make it up for even partial credit. Does not work well with students.
Fullmer is not professional and not very good at teaching. He assigns a ton of homework and is not clear on what to do or what is due. He also changes the rubric for what we need to have done all the time and so it's very unclear on what we have to do. If I could I would drop this class and warn everyone to never take this professor for any subject
Get ready for a whole bunch of assignments and even overlapping essays on top of each other. So you'll be writing more than 1 essay at a time and it will get extremely confusing because of how unclear he is. Professor Fullmer is one of the worst professors that I have ever taken and I've had a lot of professors. Do not take Fullmer ever.!
Professor Fullmer is an amazing teacher! The work is time consuming and yes occasionally you are writing more then one paper at a time. However he is extremely fair in grading. If you fail his class, it is because YOU are not doing the work and YOU are not showing up for class. What you put in to his class is what you get out of it plain and simple
Professor Fullmer is the most confusing professor I have ever had, and I have had a lot of professors. His TA's are very harsh graders. I wrote a 9-page essay with a minimum requirement of 4 pages, and I got docked twenty points for "not meeting the minimum page requirement." They don't know what they're doing and neither does Fullmer.
He doesn't like questions and if you ask him anything, he'll say, "I've already answered that." Because he has several other classes that are doing basically the same things, so he never believes anyone when we tell him that part of the assignment was never clarified, and so we're left to guess and hopefully get it right.
Fullmer's class was the worst English class I've had. He simply does not care about the students in the least bit. Also, he consistently makes them feel stupid by belittling them and making fun of their apparently "dumb" questions. His lectures are pointless, since he drags them on and doesn't truly get to the point. Terrible attitude. Unhelpful.
Professor Fullmer expects a lot out of his students. It is extremely important to go to every single class possible as he goes over important things every time. The papers that you are required to write are pretty long, although they give you the chance to really be able to use your brain and think about things.
This was by far most stressful class of my life. Dr Fullmer has become my friend but as a teacher I am not a fan. There was a lot of papers that seemed to take a very long time. I admit, I am not the most phenomenal writer, but the assistance could have been better. I somehow ended up with an A- but I don't ever want to go through that again.
When students answer questions about their analysis of a poem he would interrupt and asked more questions to fight against our response and never give us an opportunity to respond back. He was very rude about our differing opinion. Asked questions that students who took his Engl 1010 would know, other students did not know and he would not explain.
He was an absolutely terrible professor. He though that he was so funny when he wasn't. I asked a question about an assignment to him and he responded with "What kind of question was that? That was such a stupid question I'm not even going to answer that." He was so rude all of the time! I would never take a class from him again.
Fullmer's interest in the subject made the class all the more interesting and fun. He provided interesting insights on the material, but still allowed us to explore and analyse the text ourselves. Lectures were short, which was nice. Must read a play a week, and write a long paper each week. If you're not willing to work hard, you won't pass.
Just so everyone here is aware, this professor is one of the Distance Ed teachers, which means that the majority of those in the 1010 and 2010 classes are high schoolers. He is a fair teacher, funny, and makes his expectations crystal clear. I feel like many of the reviews here came from high school students that were not prepared for college.
Super easy and super eccentric, makes for interesting classes
Dr. Fullmer is an amazing teacher. He takes the time to allow students to ask questions. He goes in depth on learning material and tells you exactly what he wants. I never had to wait more that 2 or 3 class periods to get grades back. His course in intellectually expanding. An eccentric man but lots of fun! Made morning classes easy to get up for.
I rather enjoyed this very eccentric professor. He is not for the faint of heart or the lazy of will. From Black Sabbath T-shirts and dirty jokes in Shakespeare to breath right strips, this professor has a one-of-a-kind mind. Don't press the snooze button, don't take him too seriously, and don't litter your paper with expletive plus be verbs.
Awesome teacher! He is absolutely hilarious, talk about metal music and he will love you. Very specific about what he wants you to do and explains things very clearly and answers all questions.
I took Dr. Fullmer's Fantasy Lit class over the summer. It was tiny and two hours long, but it was the best month I've ever had in my life. It was so much fun. He thinks in an amazing, different way and isn't afraid who knows it. Super genius, super friendly, super awesome. I would take him again in a heart beat.
I hate English but the class ended up being enjoyable. He is a really cool guy. Not always the best at answering questions but he tries. He gives lots of papers but he shows you how to do them and breaks it down so it is quite do able. If you are worried about English id take it from him. He is positive and makes you feel like you can succeed.
He is an awesome teacher if you think something is hard we will either help you so its not hard or if it really is he will just drop the assignment for you
Fullmer is one of my favorite professors. Took him for both ENG 1010 and Shakespeare. He is a decently easy grader. He sets great expectations and outlines for the work to be done. All you have to do is follow those and you'll do great. I learned a ton from him. He is very knowledgable.
He's super funny. Loved metal music. Talk about it with him and he'll love you.
Professor was very clear about what he wanted in all the assignments but he does not use canvas at all so expect to go to every class and you will do just fine. I definitely plan on taking more classes from him. Outstanding professor. Learned a lot and he knows his stuff! No textbook.
I had Fullmer for eng 1010 & 2010! He's an incredible professor, and really knows his stuff! He encourages you to crack open your brain and to truly be mindful of the elements around you. Sure, it's an english class, but he really makes it so much more than that. He's inspiring and open to new ideologies. Work hard, and do the HW, or you won't pass
One of my favorite teachers ever. He never fails to make you laugh or have a thought-provoking discussion. SUPER knowledgeable on the subject matter . Fairly difficult class, but he gives you plenty of time to finish homework, so plan ahead. Very helpful and will always answer any questions you have. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Best teacher I've ever had!!!!!!
Fullmer is a really good professor. He gives really detailed feedback on all the assignments and papers so you know what you need to work on. Only downside is he does seem to take a while to grade assignments. Do the assignments, and work hard on the papers and you will do just fine!
There are not a ton of papers but they are worth a lot, so be sure you spend time on them. Don't really need the textbook, mostly just need general info like citations that you can find online (or lots of the same info as the ENGL 1010 book- diff. teacher). A few quizzes, lots of discussions. Just a final paper, no test, worth 35% of your grade.
I took Fullmer's Tolkien class as an elective and it was so fun. Since it was a reading class there was tons of reading but that was to be expected. There were what seemed to be quite a few papers, but they were kept short and sweet. He has pop quizzes quite often, but it's mostly for attendance. If you turn it in you're awarded full credit.
Stephen Fullmer is the BEST writing professor I have ever had! He does not use canvas which I thought I wouldn't like, but I definitely appreciated his decision--no dwelling on past scores, only improvement. You will write several papers in this class, but you will see so much progress. He is incredibly knowledgable and I highly recommend him!
He was an awesome teacher, he grades papers really easily at the begining of the year and as you progress into the year he grades harder. He gives a clear detailed outline of what he wants in each paper, and allows plenty of time to answer questions. He also doesn't expect your papers to be perfect and likes to see your progression through the year
Worst fantasy class imaginable. DO NOT TAKE. He caters to the five students who have taken all of his classes before. Uses obscure references and expects you to understand, does not explain well, has group projects with unclear expectations and no time. Hostile environment sometimes, and ridiculous test qs. Such a let down.
He does not give rubrics out for papers, and I wrote more essays than any of my other peers who were taking the same class. I felt like his expectations were way too high for a generals class and... honestly, it was just painful to go to class. He says he doesn't grade attendance, but he does in class "quizzes" almost every day.
At first, had some real problems. He loves doing pop quizzes, especially at the beginning of the semester. Isn't always clear or concise on his meanings. STAY UP TO DATE ON YOUR READINGS. He mellows out towards the end, though. First half, I'd rate his difficulty at 4 or 5. Second half? 2 or 3, easy.
Lectures are great, what he says is relevant & helpful in understanding/analyzing the readings. Our class was heavy on Shakespeare, but what I did that helped me to understand was watching the Hollywood adaptations of the plays while reading along in my book. He was so easygoing & fair with final grades. You'll do well if you show up and TRY.
Don't sign up for his classes. Doesn't give out rubrics for papers but grades really harshly. He comes off as pretty rude and disrespectful to students and doesn't give good feedback. With the online class he doesn't do much teaching, you just read a play a week and write papers on them. I don't feel like I've learned anything. Don't take from him.
I took the 1010 course he taught at SLCC, it is very demanding, but in a way that will make you want to learn. He is very open-minded and open to questions. He will make sure you understand the subject if you just ask him to expand and make the right questions. He has a sense of humor. Very understanding and approachable. LOTS of work.
Here's the deal, this isn't high school. He expects you to show up to every class and take good notes. Your notes and lectures are your rubrics. He gives you all the tools you need to succeed but its on the white board or verbally (repeatedly) . His teaching style challenges you to engage your mind and use critical thinking. My absolute fav prof.
If you don't actually want to improve or learn then you will struggle with this professor. His classes require you to engage. I have had much more difficult classes than his and didn't learn anything. His class was a fair amount of work for a lot of knowledge gained. I ended up going back after ENG 2010 and taking online Shakespeare for my fineart.
Lots of reading, but its a LIT class. He doesnt teach any subkect (or subject matter) he doesnt know and love. Great teacher. Great person. Does expect a lot and he can be a bit eccentric.
You will read a ton and you will write more papers than many other wrtg 150 students, but it's all to make you a better and more confident writer. He's incredible at teaching literature, good at teaching different types of writing, and gives great feedback, and really wants to help you succeed. I hate english and writing, and I loved this class.
If you attend class (4 no class days), read a few short stories and 1 small book, and write the papers, you'll get at least a B+. Was much easier than my ENGL 1010 class. Few one page responses. 5 page paper. 15-20 page final paper. All papers double spaced! He gave us 2.5 MONTHS to write the big paper and it is completed it in sections. NOT HARD.
lots of analysis. know your MLA format. couple small papers and then one big paper. there was a "quiz" everyday but if you were there and attempted it you got credit. somedays he seemed annoyed to be there but that could be the people in our class too. he loves his Shakespeare so be prepared to read that. not the best teacher but good enough.
I took this class online, and it was okay. Professor Fullmer is really hard to reach; he rarely responds to messages. Overall, he isn't a good nor bad professor. He's a mediocre choice. Be ready to do lots of research, reading, and writing! This course placed a heavy emphasis on academic research, so choosing a good topic will help in the long run!
Professor Fullmer gives excellent feedback. Follow his advice, and you will hopefully get a better grade on your next assignment. You will write 3 major papers (same self-chosen topic for all), 12 1-page summaries about your sources, an annotated bibliography, & other small writings. The grade you get will reflect the effort you put into the class.
I took the online class from Professor Fullmer, and it wasn't very difficult. If you do your assignments on time and put in college-level effort, you will get a good grade. I messaged him a lot w/ questions and he rarely responded. Gave good feedback on specific assignments, but not in general; if you rely heavily on communication, look elsewhere.
I took this class online and I seriously loved it. It's super easy to get an A in as long as you do good work and turn it in on time. He provides a lot of feedback to help you progress throughout the semester. Pretty easy class!
Professor Fullmer is awesome! I missed the final and he let me come take it a few days late. His class really focuses on analysis and research papers--he gives great feedback. Don't be worried if you have a B at the beginning of the semester--it gets better as you get farther in.
Though I did not care much for JRR Tolkien, it was fun to listen and learn from Fullmer and made me appreciate the author and his works. He can be a tad forgetful sometimes but he is extremely approachable and is more than willingly to help. I definitely plan to take more classes from him when possible.
Great professor, gives a lot of reading and homework. However, is really kind with grading and you can tell that it is his goal for you to succeed. Attendance is necessary. Get ready to write! Always have papers written a day ahead of the due date so that you can spend a day refining it.
Professor Fullmer is amazing! At first, I was a little bit unsure of his teaching style, as he teaches a little differently than other professors. He truly wants his students to succeed and will make sure you succeed as long as you put in an honest effort. If you go to every single class, he'll bump your grade up one letter (B+ to an A-).
Most off what we did worked into our huge 12 page final paper, I learned a lot. When emailing him it took several days for a response. Fantastic feedback.
AMAZING! I can not say enough good about him. He is so awesome teaching online and made the class ENJOYABLE! He wants you to succeed and does everything to help. He replies quickly to emails and is just the nicest guy. If you have to take English 2010 take it from him you won't regret it!!!
Professor Fullmer is my favorite professor I've had at UVU. He truly cares about all of his students and will do whatever it takes to help you pass so long as you ask. I asked for multiple extensions and he always gave them to me and was very nice about it. If you go to lectures he tells you everything you need to know to succeed. 10/10 recommend.
He genuinely cares about helping his students to succeed and grades more on progression than how they are in the moment. This shows more clearly when he adjusts the final grades. As long as your try your best to improve with each paper, take his feedback seriously, and use the study guides you'll do just fine.
So. Many. Plays. Admitted to giving us a course load more suited to a Bachelor's or possibly even Master's degree. Frequently spent class time trying to iron out issues with electronics. Didn't give any kind of trigger warnings before delving into sensitive topics. But he did mean well and was very enthusiastic. Made us think outside the box.
It's really clear Professor Fullmer LOVES literature. His brain works 10x faster than mine and it took me a few classes to understand his style of teaching, but when I got it, I loved it. He's super knowledgeable and enthusiastic, connecting pieces to others to really broaden our horizons. I would definitely take another class from him.
Dr Fullmer truly is the worst at responding to emails, but he is the most kind and caring professor you could ever have. I have taken three classes with him now, and I have created a lifelong friend. Always willing to help, listen, and understand your situation. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to learn and not just get a grade.
Dr. Fullmer is the best. He's extremely kind, empathetic, and caring. He offers amazing lectures, and truly cares for his students. The texts he uses in class really fueled my learning. I'd take any class he offers, and consider him an inspiration, and a fond friend. Take a class from him if you're given the chance! He's truly wonderful.
As a person, he seems really great, but his lectures are all over the place. Although his inability to follow a string of though can be amusing at times, it can be hard to know what we are supposed to get from the lecture. He seems pretty laid back and overall really interested in all the student's opinions.
Word to the wise here: this is not just a class dense on reading, but a class on geeky, fantasy reading. Nonetheless, it was a blast! Dr. Fullmer is full of energy and such an interactive professor, and the work in the class was unlike anything I've done before. Lean into it! Myths and Legends may sound funny, but it's really engaging in the end.
The good: overall interesting content, generous grader. The bad: doesn't use canvas. If you miss the first day, you will not know what books you need to buy until they're used. Assignment instructions and due dates are often unclear and continually shifting. If you are someone who needs clear expectations, do not take this class.
Dr. Fullmer is amazing! I had so much fun in this class. He wants his students to succeed and it's very evident in his teaching. We read a few major texts, did some group projects, and received some awesome exams that made me think. Professor Fullmer is the kindest soul. I highly recommend taking a class from him- and can't wait for my next :)
Wow- Professor Fullmer is amazing! I loved this class so much. We got to read many astounding Stephen King books- lots of amazing pages, but audio books help... Dr. Fullmer's knowledge is impressive, and he gives wonderful lectures. I wish I could take this class a million times over. Fullmer is the most caring professor I've had. Take his class!
Great professor who will give you time to do assignments. Recommend taking him again if you want to get an easy grade.
He is nice and understanding, but a lot of times the class was quite lost and confused.
Professor Fullmer is great, but despite claiming otherwise, this class is essentially a Tolkien class for the first month of class. He is a good listener and takes student comments into consideration, but there is so much reading. It also feels like high school, in the sense that electronics are not typically allowed, there are exceptions though
Dr. Fullmer was a very nice professor, but he never graded anything on time and our final exam was also never graded. He was also hard to contact. Be prepared to read a lot and be sure to study/take note of everything because sometimes things that we discussed like once or twice in class was included in the midterm and/or final exam.
TERRIBLE, don't take him, you will hate life, great feedback ONCE he does grade. His online class assignments are so unorganized. Will not respond timely for help. Issued WRONG book text and refuses to fix it - more of a moderator than an instructor and certainly NOT an educator.
