His teaching is good, he is pretty clear. CAUTION: his questions are all tricks and very difficult. You think you know your stuff and then his random question confuses you. You need to fully, next level understand the material so you don't fall into his traps and even then... Good prof, terrible test maker.
Slides have too much information so he just reads them, therefore he is not engaging at all. His test questions are worded very poorly, causing students to become confused over basic concepts. His feedback had little to no use. Seems knowledgable but is the worst at teaching i've experienced at uOttawa thus far. Seems like he'd be chill IRL
Not a bad professor, but you really need to know your stuff. If you study you'll be golden.
Tests are poorly worded and difficult
Seems confused when he lectures, not a very good professor. You need to read and understand the concepts, don't focus on class notes because the tests do not reflect the material in class.
Dr Gee has difficulty explaining the most basic concepts, and test questions are ambiguous. Avoid if possible
Dr. Gee is the lead prof for PHS3341 (there are 3 other profs that team teach other topics.) Dr. Gee was my least favourite professor of the 4, as he isn't an engaging lecturer. He doesn't convey the subject matter effectively, so you have to do the readings. His exam questions are fair and you can get an A if you attend lectures and do readings.
Dr. Gee was easily the best prof I've had, his lectures are informative and honestly the guys pretty hilarious. Not many assignments, but lots of slideshows to study before exams. His lecture slides are extremely informative, more detailed than any other prof I've seen for ANP1105. Overall, great guy 5/5 would recommend
This professor read mostly word for word from his slides and was sorta boring. You can skip almost every lecture as long as you read over the slides, which he posts before the lecture even happens.
Great guy with awesome sense of humour not so great prof. Reads directly off his lecture slides and makes midterms/ exams very specific almost impossible not to do poorly on. knows how to make the crowd laugh by cracking a joke but also knows how to make them cry once they see their final grade.
Decent prof and a good person. Found his explanations to be easy to follow and his slides are really good. Can get a little boring at times and some mcq were really tricky. Overall good though and he went above and beyond helping students with technical issues ie. accessing the online homework.
Very monotone and makes it difficult to follow along. Everything and I mean everything you need to know is on the slides and he ONLY reads off the slides. Reading is supplemental but necessary. Course is about understanding and not comepletely about memorizing. Class was designated nap time.
The anatomy course is fairly dry, so Gee does what he can to keep it interesting. However, he spends most of his time reading off of the slides during lectures, so it's almost impossible to absorb the info. I only went to class a few times during the semester and studied off of the textbook for exams.
He's a nice guy but his lectures are dry - he mostly just reads off the slides. I'd recommend studying from the textbook or just his slides, as they have all of the information you'll need for midterms/exams.
Boring and bland prof, he read off the sides and didn't give any additional information to the material being taught. Use the textbook a lot for this class it's extremely useful!
Stephan Gee speaks in a monotone voice which makes it hard to stay focused during the lecture. The only good part about this course was when he would attempt to save his lectures with outdated memes. Micheal Downey saved his class when he took over to lecture about the heart. Do not take a class with this prof unless it is mandatory.
Dr. Gee is a good guy and definitely cares about his students' success. The lecture slides were full of info, which meant he talked very quickly and read mostly off the slides. The slides were good for studying, but the textbook is a must for this course. Challenging exams, but that's just anatomy for you. Overall a good prof.
Dr. Gee is a nice guy but his lectures were very dry and he mostly just read off of the slides. I found it hard to keep myself from falling asleep. Memorize the slides and don't procrastinate studying, because there is so much you need to know. The exams were fair, as all of the exam material is directly from the slides.
Nice guy and teaches the course fairly well. Your better off just reading the textbook however. Tries his best to lighten up the class by making jokes and talking about his family.
Prof. Gee delivers incredibly boring lectures that come directly from the slides themselves, so you don't really need to go unless you want to fall asleep. He explains material by reading from the slide, and that is it. Seems like a good person and cracks jokes sometimes, but as a prof, very dry.
This professor is overall just very monotone, and his slides and recordings do not match up with what's on the midterms. You will succeed if you really on the textbook heavily as a resource.
Overall not great
First time having him online as a first year student. Have to say his midterm was much more difficult than his previous midterms. The questions were incredibly lengthy, took more than a minute to read, process, and understand. Some things (like diagrams) were on the midterm although he said it wouldn't be. Students confronted him, he said "study".
Tests are incredibly unclear and is very unprofessional. Disappointing way to start my first year of university.
The exam was unfair and he is not considerate
Midterm very difficult. Attend/make sure to watch ALL lectures and understand content, not just memorization. Acted EXTREMELY unprofessional, but at least took full accountability later on without meaningless excuses.
The tests are all trick questions and unrelated to the lectures. He was also very rude when students had questions
Maybe he is better in in-person classes, but this class online has been the most stress inducing because he is unable to properly upload his slides on time, often leaving students to cram last minute. He is a nice person, but he is not even trying to keep the class up to date on content. Life was grand until ANP1105 :")
Absolutely horrible. Online tests are incredibly difficult and unreasonable, and when students had questions or comments about the difficulty, he straight up ignored them or said "just study better". Very rude in emails too.
I am someone who typically does really well in memorization-based courses like bio and anatomy, but Dr. Gee's tests are ridiculously hard. Could be because of online classes though. Lectures are incredibly boring and time consuming. Thank goodness Dr. Mike Downey swooped in to save the course halfway through.
He does not upload slides on time. When we switched profs halfway through the semester, Dr. Gee still had two lectures to post - he ended up posting them 3 weeks late and only about 50% of the slides had voice recordings. Spends too much time trying to be funny with memes but doesn't seem to care at all about his students success.
Without a doubt avoid this prof. Lectures are difficult to follow, always had to solidify my understanding through other means. Once we had switched profs, Dr. Gee still had slides that were not posted for weeks. The class average on our second midterm with Dr. Downey was about 20% higher. Only advice for the poor result on the 1st was to "study".
Don't fall behind or you'll bomb this class, trust me. Content is vvvv heavy, stay up to date and read the textbook you'll be fine. Exams are tricky and hard tbh. Gotta grind hard for A+. Dr Gee if you're reading this just use zoom for lectures record them and have them accessible for students later fr no need to upload late recordings on echo360.
Professor Gee is not only unprofessional, but his monotone lectures will probably put you to sleep, (if he even uploads them on time). When students email him to ask for help he will either ignore them, or just be very rude and not helpful. Midterm questions are extremely complicated and if this course is mandatory for you...I wish you good luck!
I know he may not be very popular with students but he is genuinely one of the most caring professors I have had. He is so understanding of difficulties coming up and not pushy for reasoning. He is easily accessible and does his best to make class enjoyable. His exam questions were very straightforward and easiest to understand among the 4 profs.
He went into a lot of detail during his lectures and used good examples. Although, his tests were too long and we didn't have enough time to finish. Roughly one minute per multiple-choice question, some questions were full paragraphs. Overall a good professor, had a VERY soothing voice that could honestly put you to sleep.
He's a nice person but his lectures were incredibly difficult to follow and not engaging. He also didn't upload lectures on time, which caused a lot of stress and panic for myself and my peers. Overall, a kind person, but not the best prof.
If you have this prof please switch out. He never uploaded anything on time so it was difficult to stay on top of everything. His test questions are also extremely difficult and he was unwilling to listen to student concerns after many did poor on the first midterm. We were told we didn't study enough
Dr. Gee is a very difficult professor to work with. He is often late to upload lectures and offers little resources to his students for their academic success. Midterms are lengthy and very difficult to complete. No amount of studying will truly prepare you. I would advise choosing another professor.
Never posted lectures on time, lectures were LOADED with information, difficult midterm with many questions unrelated to key material, not clear whatsoever. Kind person and makes a clear effort to make class enjoyable, but would not recommend as a prof. If you have to take his class, rely heavily on the textbook & it won't be impossible to do well.
Do NOT take ANY of his classes. Lectures were NEVER on time. Slides had a lot of info. Midterm questions made no sense. Doesn't answer emails. Doesn't explain things clearly. I heavily recommend to NEVER take his class or else YouTube and the textbook will be your bestfriends.
He is very monotone and lectures are very boring. I could not watch majority of the lectures, as I was getting sleepy. You would need to rely on the textbook and slides. He doesn't upload the lectures on time as well. Downey carried and is the reason for my mark. If you have a chance, definitely switch to a different professor!
Didn't particularly like format of lectures. There were separate vids for every few slides in a 40+ slide slideshow so I had to go back each time and load the vids which was time consuming. Vids consisted of slides and voice over, which wasn't the most engaging. Lectures provided sufficient information, didn't personally need to read the textbook
This class was just... really bad. His PPTs are summarized to the point where even my med-school grad sister didnt understand what was going on. He reads off of PPTs and doesnt really explain the material
this man, i stg, he invented salsa fish and dedicated his career to creating complex tests/exams with little relavence to his lectures that he posted, if he posted them...
Lecture release schedule was slower than molasses through your veins, which we may have assumed was there since his explanation of the blood (scheduled for Oct.) came after Dr. Downy finished his lectures (mid Dec.). Lectures were dry and needlessly separated slide by slide. Ppts don't make much sense without lectures. Exams are MCQs, and tricky.
He seems like a nice guy, but his lectures weren't great and he was suuuper late with posting them. His exam questions I find were trickier compared to Dr. Downey who took over the second half. You can still get a good mark, but his teaching style is not desirable, and gets frustrating when he fails to post his overdue lectures... :/
mans ought to be named NyQuil the way he puts me to sleep. sick lad but time to retire :)
The midterms were so unnecessarily complex. There was no need to complicate everything, the material being studied is straightforward so the exams should be too
Unlike the other reviews, the midterm I had was very straightforward. It was open book and as long as you know what to look for, it should be easy. Lectures were lengthy and boring, yet helpful. There were no delays because he re-used last year's lectures. He was kind and had a great sense of humour. I believe he's better in in-person class though.
Seems like a nice guy, but talks soo slow and his office hours are so long for no reason. His exams were hard and if it was not for Downey I would have gotten a much lower grade.
He's amazing!!! Love coming to every lecture :)
His lectures were enjoyable, and you can tell he makes an effort to make them entertaining. However, despite thoroughly going through all readings, lectures, assignments, and even online quizzes, I still struggled on the first midterm - many of which questions had concepts that were never mentioned throughout the course.
The people from November & October 2022 don't know what they're talking about. We've had one midterm so far. The midterm was extremely fair, there were no surprises. Funniest professor I've met, and tells you during lectures certain details you won't need to know for exams. People are just mad that ANP is content heavy and don't know how to study.
Best professor ever. I genuinely LOVED coming to class, in fact this is my favorite class, and I don't think any class or professor will top this one. I was nervous to have him at first, due to all the negative comments on Rate my Prof. But that immediately changed on the first day, and especially after the first midterm. He's very approachable.
TAKE HIS CLASS, I promise you will not regret it. Literally my favourite prof, midterm 1 was really fair! If you like a prof that makes his lectures fun, he's the guy. 100%. dk why there are bad reviews honestly.
Requires a deeper understanding of the material than you expect, but is fair and covers the content needed to succeed during the lectures.
Literally the best
Super approachable, and does not expect you to have an extremely advanced level of understanding like other profs. Has hilarious memes on his slides, and tries to make references to movies/shows when teaching material, to help you remember the content. Overall my fav prof.
Genuinely don't understand why this prof had such terrible reviews. ANP is a content heavy course, but Dr. Gee did a great job explaining the content and making it easy for me to remember certain details for the midterm. Totally recommend this prof, as long as you stay on top of the material you can do very well.
At first, I was really scared to have him because of all the negative rates he had but he turned out to be one of my favourite profs. I genuinely enjoyed his class and found him funny. He has changed his midterms from the past years, making them less harder and more fair. The midterm basic and easily passable if you just do practice questions !!
Sure his lectures got pretty long & boring at times and the lack of practice questions didn't help matters, but Gee is a pretty good prof. Could've explained some concepts a bit better (had to dive into the textbook for a few). I'd say he doesn't deserve the low ratings seen in years past. If you can, I'd take him!
While his lectures are ok at best, the real issue stems from his questions on exams, both Midterm and Final. Many of the questions and answers are detailed, with you having to know *very* specific aspects in order to get it right. It would've been nice to be provided with some practice questions to get used to his style of questioning. Beware!!!
Genuinely I found he's a good professor, it just seems people rate him lower because he teaches the harder part of the course, he's relatively a good professor, just some lectures he simply reads the slides, rather than try to explain it from his understanding.
He doesn't really explain concepts in lectures, mostly just reads off of the slides. His practice questions were not a good example of what the midterms would be like, and some questions on midterms were based on things never mentioned in class.
Great dude but alright prof. His lectures were packed with info and he just read off his slides in a very boring and monotone way. Midterms were doable. Not very engaging so I was less interested in the content but he wasn't super difficult or anything.
Funny guy, adds niche info, exceptions to generalizations, details to lectures, knows what content requires more time than others, paces lectures extremely well, spreads apart the content well. His exams are a little harder than most I think.
His exams are a bit harder than expected. his classes are a bit boring but he's good at teaching and explaining.
Gee's class is difficult but not impossible. Lectures were packed with info (some of which were random facts), but the majority of what you needed to know for exams is in his slideshows. For his exams, you really need to know the tiny details, so do not leave your studying to the last minute! Put in the work and it'll be reflected in your grade.
Meh ! More ego and want to be brawn than concern for learning.
AMAZING PROF! He explained foundational concepts very well! Fair exams, the questions did not trick the students but rather tested their understanding of the concepts. He did not expect students to just purely memorize. AND did not treat ANP like it was the only course students were taking unlike another professor.
He is a horrible professor that has a massive ego and does not want to help his students at all. He was very disorganized, changed the rubric multiple times and was very passive aggressive in his responses. I really hope that he takes better care of his students and tries to be more understanding and considerate of their time
- Completely unorganized class with 10 professors who also don't have clear communication with Gee (cough figure fact sheets) - Violated academic regulations for grade return (didn't get ANY feedback until it was too late to drop the class) - Very inaccessible outside of class to begin with (emails were very curt) AVOID FOR YOUR SANITY
It isn't Dr. Gee's fault that the material he has to teach is dry. He tries to make things interesting using analogies and relating it to pop culture, and cracking a few jokes along the way. It would help a bit if he dropped some hints in his lectures for those who attend of what is going to be on the exam because there is just so much info.
Is such a confusing prof and does not outline required study material. class average on midterm was a 45-50 I got a 23 and had to drop out of the course because I was not able to recover from that grade. So many people had to drop out or barely passed the midterm. His slides and content is so confusing AVOID!!!
The class is extremely disorganized, with multiple professors throughout the semester and dr Gee does not give any type of study guide or let us know the format for the final which is thin is unfair considering the final is worth 60% of you grade and there is no reweighing whatsoever as per his syllabus.
I found that overall Dr. Gee definitely cares about his students and incorporates humour into his lectures to make things more interesting. His pacing is pretty fast which can be hard to adjust to but this is a heavy course anyways. His exams can be difficult if you don't put in enough time and effort to study and understand the concepts clearly.
He has a monotone voice and his slides are all over the place. He doesn't explain very well and is not available out side of class. I would stay away!
Good professor!
dr gee really, really cares. if he doesn't think the class understands something he will explain it over and over. his exams are extremely easy. extremely. anybody who is complaining about him is a first year student who has not had to deal with dr. savoury for an anatomy class. Trust me, take this prof.
Semester split between Gee and downey, Gee is still a good prof just a little harder as he makes first mid term by himself. study everything on slides and you will be fine.
Steven Gee is essentially the embodiment of an average-good professor. Sure, his lectures are basically just information dumping, and he can be monotone, but as a whole, he really isn't bad. A lot of the hate comes from people who didn't do their work. This guy is hilarious, and I will definitely miss his distinct style.
Average prof in class. He is passionate to what he teaches which i respect but his midterm is extremly hard for no reason even if you study every day. Put in A LOT of work into this class and pray you pass. Class average was like a 56.
For PHS3341, there are 4 profs. He's the worst of the 4. He's very knowledgeable, but is just simply not as good a lecturer as the other profs.
Very nice but I took this with Gee and Downey and Gee was much more boring an hard to pay attention too.
He is a great prof, he definitely knows what he is talking about, his midterms are fair and understandable.
