This guy is HOT.
This class requires a ton of reading and the tests sucked, but Gores is pretty cute. He looks like an older version of Ross Geller from Friends.
Grades really hard. You need to attend every class or you will get behind. Good teacher though
He makes his class Very easy--he explains basic terms and goes over everything. His tests are questionable, but the quizzes are simple (read & you'll be fine). I've had worse reading--his isn't bad at all. And he IS hot--both his personality & his, er, butt.
He's good to look at, and relates everything back to sex. As long as you read he is ok. His tests can be pretty difficult.
The quizzes as simple. The tests are pretty standard essays, but his only comment is the letter grade. It can be difficult to find out how to improve after the first test. He's hot though--looks like a cute George Clooney. Wears collared shirts buttoned strategically and sandals.
This is the third time I have had to put a rating on here. For some reason, someone keeps deleting the bad ratings. This professor is boring and monotone. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES. He does not explain anything. He assumes that everyone in the class is a Literature major. He is not a good professor.
tests hard and he assumes everyone is a literature major, but he is kinda funny and definately an older version of ross
I didn't think the tests were that hard. If you pay attention to the passages he reviews in class you'll do well on the tests.
Cool teacher who makes his classes enjoyable. Very helpful.
Very boring! Not a good professor at all. Doesn't explain anything because he expects you to know it already. Don't sign up for his classes.
Dr. Gores is amazing. Appropriately challenging. If someone is able to make british literature interesting, they've got talent. He does.
We went off topic a lot and I didn’t feel like I learned anything in that class. It was a waste of time! He would give us last minute assignments often.

I really enjoyed his class, I think if you go to class, you'll get an A. His exams aren't hard, alot of writing but overall there pretty easy. Also he has a quiz about 1 a week so READ!!!!
Do not take!!!
SUCKS!... really.. he is unhelpful, and doesnt seem to really care about his students, a horrible teacher
There's always a lot of reading in his classes. It's not a cake walk. You MUST read b/c he gives a quiz almost every day. If you go to class and do the "HEAVY" load of reading, you will pass with no problem. He's actually understanding if you talk with him.
I am not going to lie, brit lit was interesting just to see this man...he has aged well! But seriously, he is a wonderful teacher! There is a lot of work, but if you attend class and you ask questions you will be fine. The quizzes are easy and the tests are challenging but it is a very rewarding class. This is a grade you really have to earn!
Great teacher! Tests aren't bad if you pay attention in class and take notes, and quizzes are a breeze. Lots of reading, but it's an english class, so what could you expect?
He's cool.
This class was centered on class discussion, and there was a lot of reading involved. We also had a writing piece due almost every week. If you don't like extensive reading and writing, and just want an easy English class, then avoid him. If, however, you genuinely enjoy English, then I wholeheartedly recommend Gores.
I recommend him more than any other english professor at NKU! He knows what he's talking about, and he can relate to students with amazing ease. You need to read, or at least sparknote the material, because there's a quiz on every new unit, but they're easy if you read. Tests are vocab and essays, but if you go to class and take notes, you'll pass.
Good class.
AMAZING!! He is by far the best teacher at NKU. He is funny, smart and very easy going. I would take 100 courses with him if they were offered. Just go to class and write exactly what he says and you won't have any problems on the exams. He is more than willing to help with anything you need. AWESOME.
Super nice! Go to class, read sparknotes, take good notes, and you'll have no problem with him.
Overall, the class was very casual and laid back. There was a writing assignment due each Friday and a quiz each Wednesday. No final exam, but had to write a 15 page research paper. Recommend Gores as a teacher, but don't take 151 unless you enjoy work.
Brit Lit I. Lots of reading, but it's a lit course. Generous. If you show up and take good notes you'll do well. Gives concise examples, explains terms well, very good at teaching. Handsome, fit, great smile. If you have a problem, he's willing to work with you.
One of the best professors at NKU. He really knows his stuff. He does expect you to do the work, but makes himself available to help if you need it.
I Love Prof. Gores, he is an awesome teacher who is very knowledgable and helpful. As long as you take notes on what you read,(which is alot) then you should do fine on his tests. I would recomend him to anyone, English majors or not.
His classes are actually fun, I took Brit Lit with him and didn't purchase the text and got it all off the internet...he gives quizzes over each text and each can be answered by only using sparknotes, but his tests are part essay so if you don't do well on essay I would avoid since they are 55% of the test.. attendance is fair
A very enjoyable class! pretty easy
A lot of reading, but what do you expect. It's an easy class as long as you take good notes. There are only three tests and one group project on one of the texts studied in class. Overall, I enjoyed this class.
Dr. Gores is a good guy. He expects you to read and attend class, but he rewards you for it. It is not an easy class, but it is manageable.
Fun guy, very knowledgable, seems quite educated. His class is fun and engaging, he makes the subject matter interesting and is clear during class. The exams aren't too bad if you attend class regularly. He is hilarious during lecture. You will have to put a decent amount of work into the class, there is a reading burden.
I would not recommend Dr. Gores (even though he sadly is the only current professor for 202). I got nothing out of his class. And he grades on a "high school" scale, so if you get a 90 on an exam, SURPRISE it's a B; and he doesn't even INFORM you of this in the syllabus.
He's not a bad guy but the class is difficult. Read spark notes for the quizzes because the quizzes can be hard and the material is a little hard to understand. He likes to make a lot of sexual remarks; if that's not your thing don't take his class. His exams are QUITE difficult. No multiple choice just essay after essay and some matching terms.
Dr. Gores is a great professor. He takes very old and not always interesting literature and makes it interesting. I would not take British lit if you are not an English major. The class involves a lot of reading and studying, but its not too unexpected considering it is an English class. He's very open to all questions and comments.
Super annoying class. I'm an English minor and I hated EVERY second I had to listen to him. He is so dull, not to bad to look at though, but down side he knows it and therefore emits a rather cocky attitude. Gets upset if he finds you're reading sparknotes but if you're a full time student and have a job there is no way to read all this material.
He is a pretty chill teacher. but he seems to really digress a lot and that puts you behind his other sections. instead of telling you that you are caught up with the other sections you are suprised with a quiz on material you were not aware you had to read due to the thought that you were off schedule.
he is very hard to undrstand and he gets mad if talk during his class but he is very good at his job. He knows his English
I really like Professor Gores but he is a difficult instuctor. He is kind of sarcastic but def likeable. We read 7 novels and had 2 quizes on each novel. No final exam but you have to write a min 15 page research paper! You have been warned lol.
Well hopefully you start out strong on your grades beacuse whatever you start out with is how he grades all of your stuff. So if you get a C on the first test be prepared to get a C on everything except your presentation. This is a very hard class for 200 level and very demanding of your time!!
He is the meanest teacher I have ever had. For an English professor and he was not very helpful and not willing to work to help with the students that needed extra help.
I took his Brit Lit class 1. First of all, it's unbelievably easy. Go to class, read spark-notes, and listen closely during class. If you're a typical NKU student this might be a bit difficult but otherwise you'll get at the worst a B. Plus Dr. Gores is funny and KNOWS his stuff.
DO NOT and I mean NOT listen to the negative comments on here about Dr. Gores. As long as you do the work and prepare for the exams (ahead of time, since he gives you the essay topics) you should do fine:) Do the reading, use sparknotes(if you don't have time to read),come to class, take notes, and work as a group on your presentation=A+. He's nice
I don't know what all the complaints are from. He has never been mean. He is always nice. Usually, very funny. He is hard and demanding, but shouldn't educational experiences be demanding? Always makes the readings interesting. Also, has a sweet luscious head of hair.
Cool guy.. I have never ran into any of the problems some of the students on here have. He's never been mean. He has always been interesting and makes the readings accessible. You do need to show up, work and pay attention. Demanding, but shouldn't anything educational be demanding? Also, has a luscious thick head of silver hair.
I really liked professor gores. If you have issues making it to class for any reason he is always willing to work with you to set up later test sessions. If you have to take english 202 I would definitely take him! Really nice guy.
He is an amazing instructor. He really loves what he does and enjoys the content that he teaches. The reading in no more than any other English class that I have taken, and his lectures are very entertaining. Highly recommended.
Dr. Gores is very funny and very helpful. He's a great professor.
He is a perfectly competent teacher, and made stuff I'd read before in other classes a lot more interesting because he knew the backstories. He was cordial and helpful. I think the people who don't like him just didn't want to do the work. It was challenging, but not overly so. Why come to college if you aren't going to study and learn?
The material learned in this class is usually fun. No one is going to like every bit of literature studied in a class, but even the 1 story I didn't like was made much more tolerable because he related it to modern events and it was more accessible. I would also recommend Dr. Gores because he is helpful outside of class if you have questions.
I really liked being in Dr. Gores class. He is enthusiastic about his material, but not annoyingly hyper. He makes the class interesting and breathes new life into old stuff. Things I wouldn't normally have liked were better the way he taught them. The tests are not too hard, but you do have to study to do well. I'd definitely recommend his class.
I've had Dr. Gores for 2 classes now. The class discussions are fun because likes to hear what we think on the material. To pass his classes, you just show up, pay attention, and read the books or at least read sparknotes. He tells you the topics for the tests in 202, and there are no tests in 455, just a few papers and a presentation. Nice guy.
Dr. Gores really knows his literature. He made the ancient stuff a lot more accessible. Come to class, take notes, and do the reading, and you'll do fine. Sparknotes helps a lot with the older stuff. He is nice and willing to talk if you need help with your papers. I'd definitely recommend him.
Great prof. He is easy to get along with and very helpful in class. We do article summaries every week from the NYT which are fairly easy and interesting. You need to read your Style book for quizes every week as well as the required literature for the class. Over all its a fun and interesting class.
This was my second class with Gores, and he really is a great professor! He's really clear with his expectations, and you are expected to read. There are a lot of discussions in his classes, which isn't a bad thing at all! It's interesting to bounce ideas off of other people. He does give reading quizzes at least once a week. Funny guy, too.
He knows a lot about the topic and therefore he makes it really interesting. His tests aren't too bad. Not very easy, but you can pass if you go to class and read. There's three essay exams, an oral presentation, and quizzes here and there (typically once a week.) He's funny too.
He knows his stuff, and he makes the subject matter interesting. I did wish he were more organized, though. He wouldn't stick to the schedule at all.
Love his class!
He has a great personality but I didn't like him teaching this specific class though. UNV 101 was suppose to introduce us to college, instead we spent majority of the semester reading a required book and taking quizzes about it every class period! People in different unv 101 classes told me they had assignments like going to events and such.
This is a hard class. There is at least 1 quiz per week, and Dr. Gores is often not clear on what pages you were actually supposed to read. The tests are essay tests, which are obviously very subjective on grading. He's extremely knowledgeable about his subject matter but a lot of times it's frustrating because he isn't clear. Attendance required.
Dr. Gores gives a three to four chapter reading assignment due at the next class and then gives a five question quiz at the beginning of class. He seems to be a really hard grader but in fairness this is a high-level course. I like him, I just don't think he's a very good professor.
LOVE Dr. Gores. He looks like Mick Jagger which is a plus. There are NO tests, just a few quizzes over the reading. Mostly just writing papers but they are all done in increments with reasonable deadlines. He is awesome and really fascinating.
He has by far been my favorite teacher. He only gives quizzes on the readings and there are no tests. All the writing is done in increments and he makes sure that you are given time if you need help. He is also funny and tries to include everyone.
This review is specifically for his upper level. Thinking about taking him for a 400 class? I would think again. His class was super difficult. You HAVE to buy the book, he doesn't believe in electronics in the classroom. You HAVE to read very carefully, his quizzes are outrageous. His directions about the paper were confusing.
He's a super great teacher. He's really helpful, understand and really does his best to make it interesting. The actual part of doing well in class actually depends on you. You have to read. No way around it. Sparknotes helps but do not depend on it. 1-2 quizzes every week ranging from 4-6 points. He also grades fairly hard but its not too bad
He's a funny guy, but at times can be insensitive. He gives quizzes on every chapter in Style and In Defense of Food, so read them! He canceled class a lot, so that was super nice.
This class is basically a book club with a big paper at the end. The discussions were almost always based on what the students wanted to talk about, and the quizzes are easy if you actually read. Genuinely funny. Def my favorite professor.
Dr. Gores is a very intelligent person, an excellent writer, and without a doubt a fun person to talk to. But if you take one of his classes an you don't have an inhuman aptitude for writing, you will be tearing your hair out getting the assignments done. Lots of papers in a short amount of time, and he grades incredibly hard.
While Dr. Gores is certainly an intelligent mind and is able to launch the class into discussion fairly easily, he is not the most organized professor. Often, he'll start handing back a quiz and realize he hasn't yet graded them. The feedback he gives on papers is nice and thorough though instructions are unclear at times.
He assigns a lot of writing assignments, but gives lots of time and peer review days in class. There are a lot of reading quizzes on the nightly reading assignments. His feedback on your papers is very helpful.
His English 151 Honors tends to be filled with assignments. He is a decently tough grader but his criticism is helpful in my opinion. If you have a light workload in other classes and dont mind a lot of assignments then he is fine. As a person, he is likable. He is funny.
His class is too difficult. Even though I read everything, I didn't do well on quizzes or tests and I found out that I actually can have wrong answers in literature. It's not because I'm a bad test taker, it's because what he wanted us to remember were impossible details most people wouldn't notice.
Dr. Gores is a very intelligent man and I do believe he cares about our future in English, although he can be a bit intense at times. He is likable and good and engaging students in discussion, but is a bit disorganized and has gone over time in several classes, which I believe is due to his strict no electronics policy. Overall, I really liked him
Throughout the semester, Professor Gores will assign several papers. There is usually a decent amount of time to complete assignments if you know how to manage your time. He gives small quizzes over both textbooks, so they are definitely needed. Gores always gives great feedback and will answer any questions you have.
Assigns a LOT of papers and there is a 10 page research paper that counts as the final. Class is "broadly food related" and felt more like a nutrition class than an english class. An extremely tough grader but gives good feedback. Quizzes are over very specific details of the readings. Doesn't publish class on Canvas which is annoying.
Amazing teacher, but he makes you work for it.
He is a very tough grader, theres no such thing as a good grade if you do the minimum work. Lots of reading. Frequent quizzes.
If you have never taken a critical theory class this course is not for you! Make sure you read every night There is a quiz everyday! Readings are super long and hard to understand! I didnt like this class at all! Book is over 1200 pages and its Mandatory. Quizzes and tests are hard. Continue with this class if you dare. Im trying to spare GPAs.
Dont take this class if you dont need too. Readings and quizzes everyday. Tests are very hard. Hated the class to be honest . Your book matters and its very heavy. Soo much material so little time
Dr. Gores was a nice professor. There were a ton of quizzes over readings which got overwhelming at times. Make sure to check the calendar every day. Attendance is mandatory for an attendance grade.
Dr. Gores' class is the epitome of micromanagement. Answers students' questions in a condescending way and has an inflated sense of himself. If you actually enjoy writing do not take him. He doesn't allow students to express themselves creatively through writing and even made me question my own (English) major.
Dr. Gores is great. He was very approachable and easy to talk to. Very bright and nice guy. However his class is probably the hardest class Ive ever taken. Every week there was a revised version of an essay due. For example there would be a new essay every three weeks. Each week, 2-3 new pages were due. There were also quizzes.
I will admit this class is hard. But it's worth it. There is a lot of reading and do not skip class because attendance is mandatory. He doesn't give much helpful feedback for work or exam grades but if you talk to him in person he is super helpful. If you are willin to put in the work you will do fine.
Dr. Gores was very intelligent and funny, but also very old school. Everything was turned in physically, not online. 5 papers throughout the semester, with a 10-page research final, and reading quizzes almost every class. It is an honors class, and the workload DEFINITELY reflects it. If you work really hard and turn in everything, you'll pass.
You can put in hard work, visit his office, send emails that he won't even respond to, but it'll never be good enough for him to give you a grade worth your effort. The quizzes are also ridiculous, daily, and he expects you to remember the most irrelevant things. Make sure to pick ANY other professor for your ENG class!! Your GPA will thank you.
Dr. Gores is an extremely tough grader. Lots of papers and short quizzes over the readings, quizzes are very specific. Be prepared to use all your printing money on this class because he makes you print 5+ copies of every essay for peer reviews. Best advice I can give is ask a lot of questions and pretend to be interested in the same things he is.
This man graded essays of mine with the following quotes: "This is a B level essay," "I cannot give you a passing grade," "I am puzzled as to how you are confused." Granted, I was working my ass off with work at this time and balancing a literal pandemic, so maybe it WASN'T my best work. He expects perfection.
Gores makes my skin crawl. He gives quizzes almost every day, feedback is rude, and talks down to you. His teaching style is outdated and strict. The mandatory student meetings were uncomfortable and grimy. He also makes dirty and unfunny jokes - I wanted to leave and never come back. His interests are very bland. He is impossible to connect with.
BEWARE. I took this class as a high school student to challenge myself and he was the worst. I always loved English, so I took honors and he ruined my love of English. Does not give feedback and simply said he could not pass me. Quiz every class and made the class print infinite copies. Overall a weird character and I could never do it again. RUN
The people that dont like Dr. Gores are the ones who expect the class to be an easy A. Yeah, there is a good amount of work to turn in, but assignments are reasonably spaced out and having the peer reviews were pretty helpful. He is a bit of a character but if you have a good attitude hes a fun guy. I enjoyed the class a lot.
Dr. Gores is a character you'll either love or hate. He builds unique research topics into his courses so they are far more engaging than the average English class. You have to read and write *a lot*, so be prepared to devote tons of time to his courses. If you do the work you will become a better writer. He makes the process rigorous but fun.
The hardest courses I ever took were with Dr. Gores. They were unnecessarily hard. There were quizzes each class session and the answers were miniscule details that only someone with an eidactic memory would think of. Most people got 0 or 1 out of 5 on quizzes. His tests were too long for 50 minutes. His expectations are too high.
Dr. Gores is very cool imo. He is a tough grader, though. Its hard to get an A just from sliding by and for his class; if you want to pass, its basically mandatory that you do what he say. Hes very old school. Prefers hard copy papers and the like. But I enjoy his lectures and find myself genuinely interested in what he has to say.
Dr. Gores encouraged me to work hard, and it paid off. Pop quizzes on reading are done to make sure you do the reading. Class discussion was entertaining, often very funny! I applied his feedback to an essay literally, and turned my grade around. Participation matters. I learned a lot from him. He is tough but fair! I would take more classes w/him!
This class was dreadful. Writing is usually enjoyable to me, but he made it awful. He micromanages every assignment, has a terrible attitude, and patronizes students at every opportunity. Avoid at all costs
The professor is a tough grader. He literally walked into class told all (16) of us our writing was horrible! He has weird double standards and doesn't allow students to ask for advice or make appointments to go over papers because, "Not only do I not have time but that would be unfair for other students..." You're here to help us? DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He hasn't taught one real thing in class, doesn't respond to emails and just talks about anything EXCEPT stuff a writing professor should be talking about. Doesn't give feedback on rough drafts, very picky, and unhelpful. DO NOT TAKE Class. i haven't learned one single thing. waste of money waste of time and waste of a credit.
He is a good teacher, but a hard grader. His class was heavy in reading.
Tough but fairly thorough.
He doesnt allow digital media. So DO NOT buy digital books. He hates devices and says they're distractions. Switched classes to someone who isn't old enough to despise the internet for existing.
Do not take this class if you do not want hours of homework every night. Books like LOTR, which are hard long reads, were required to read and be read fast while skipping chapters he deemed “unimportant”. He also never responded to emails, was never at office hours, and did not give feedback. Not understanding at all about late work for any reason
Never allows a single late assignment, never consistent on deadlines, will drop random quizzes with no announcement, and never responds to email. He is not understanding yet wants you to be when he leaves for a two week trip at the beginning of semester while still not answering emails. God forbid ANYTHING happens in your life while taking him.
Dr. Gores comes off as harsh, but the students education is in his best interest. He enforces his rules but it pushes for students to teach themselves discipline.
lowkey funny and has interesting takes on material. definitely obsessed with J. R. R. Tolkien. Overall, goofy guy, but bring your books to class or he gets mad
