I had a love-hate relationship with Professor Hamrick. He is incredibly knowledgeable and seems to care about students. However, he is very critical during class lectures and kind of a bully in my opinion. He made me feel ashamed of my contributions during class sometimes, and honestly he is one of the reasons Im dropping my English degree.

Professor Hamrick was very specific in what he was looking for. I struggled at the beginning of the class to figure out the best ways to improve my writing to better fit the criteria. I eventually emailed him to ask some clarifying questions on the feedback I received on an assignment and wish I had emailed him sooner. He's tough but knowledgeable.

I really don't care for Professor Hamrick's teaching style; he's quite aggressive about having students to participate in class and it made me extremely anxious. He's also a pretty tough and nonsensical grader. However, I learned a lot, so his teaching methods are at least effective. I wouldn't recommend taking him, though.

Eng 314 is reading heavy, and almost every class is a lecture/open discussion. Hamrick requires every student in the class to contribute each day, and he will cold call people. He is accommodating and helpful during his office, so utilize them. Overall. he gives great lectures and provides valuable insight, but he is a tough grader.

Tough grader! I put so much work into my essays every week and they only get high C's and low B's most of the time. No one ever got higher than a 97 on a paper. He needs to realize that this is ENG 101 not ENG 400 and needs to take it easier on grading. He doesn't care what grade you get. Honestly, might retake with another professor...

I have never been more stressed out in my entire life due to a class. The papers he assigns are very complex and he does not give good feedback on them. He expects too much from his students and it is challenging to receive an A. I am an English/Mass Comm major and this class was extremely difficult for me.

This professor is extremely unprofessional and rude. Spends all of his lectures yelling and swearing and when he calls on a student to read he just ends up interrupting every few words. He needs to go back and relearn basic manners. It is also extremely hard to impress him on papers as his expectations are unfairly high. Would not recommend.

Hamrick gives extremely vague criteria for writing assignments, then critiques them even more generally so it is difficult to improve. I had to alter my writing style into something more prosaic. He seems to esteem himself quite a bit, and seems more like a history prof than an English prof.

Was willing to offer feedback on a paper for ANOTHER class, one not w/ him but w/ a different professor. Somewhat of a tough grader in his own. Lectures would have been boring if he didn't keep you awake via the fear of being called upon. Sensed that he knows his stuff & probably produces great research. Overall, though, I wouldn't go for 2nds.

An excellent professor, there were a lot of books I needed to purchase I believe it was 6 or 7, but we wound up not even using the Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie book which felt like a waste of money. I'm not sure if maybe the book requirements were off or possibly the class was once in person and the book would've been used there.

Arrogant. Takes 5-7 days to respond to emails. Takes longer than a week to grade papers. Half of reading for Mythology was worthless. Comments on essays non-existent - checks don't count. If you challenge an idea, he goes on the offensive and is rude. Uninspiring. Never involved in online discussions. Avoid. Treats 3 credit like a 9 credit class.

Unclear instructions for his assignments. Gives vague feedback on assignments and contradicts his own feedback on final drafts. Does not seem to like to give out A's. This class dragged down my entire GPA. Do not recommend this professor.

Not an MSUM student- now hes at Bemidji state and hes not improved. Hes misogynistic and speaks over all of the women in his classes. His feedback on exams and essays is dry and unhelpful. He speaks in circles and gets off topic regularly. Im angry Im forced to take courses with him next semester in order to graduate

I'm the same person from a different rating on this professor- He's still at Bemidji. I have fallen in love with prof H's lecture style and have learned that he is the opposite of misogynistic. I've never had more meaningful conversation than in his classroom- both with him and with my classmates. You rock Prof H.
