Great professor! Social research methods is naturally a boring course, but he makes it bearable. Really funny, willing to help you out, and rediculous curves. Highly recommended.

one of my favorite classes ever. makes topic interesting. really funny guy. top 30% of class get A's, next 30% B's, and last 30% C's. make sure u read (pretty easy reading though). def a good class to take for sociology.

His exams are okay -- a little on the hard side, but do-able. He's a great professor and does make the topic interesting, but it can be boring at times. Supports grade inflation and curves generously, so approx 35% of the class gets A's.

Dr. Hansell is one of the best professors i have ever had. He explains the material well and is always willing to take questions and help the students out. His exams are a little tricky, but definetely doable if you read and listen to his lectures.

Had him for Social Research and Med. Soc. Curves very generously, a pleasant person, and corny jokes keep the class interesting. Very fair grader!! Makes you work for Soc Res though.

Great professor, interesting and a real sweetheart. Just reading and lectures, 1/3 gets A's and 1/3 get B's. Tests are are little tough but the curve makes up for it.

great teacher and a very funny guy. made class very interesting. attendence is not required but it really helps if you go...take it from me; not going to any lectures for one test almost killed me...nice curves on test and actually makes the subject fun!

This class was a breeze. This is probably one of the best professors at Rutgers. He is HIGHLY recommended and this is an easy A if you go to lectures and read. 1/2 the tests are on the lectures and the other 1/2 is based on the book. EASY CLASS!!!!

Best prof I ever had. Took a subject I had little interest in and almost made me want to be a medical sociologist. take this course now. he has an "insane curve" his words. he is a lovable geek, pretty funny. make sure you go to class AND read the book though, must do both

His notes are online, but a little bit of what he talks about in class is not on the notes. If you attend class regularly, you'll do well. However, you have to READ EVERYTHING from the book. Half of the exam is based on the readings and the other half is from the lectures.

such a nerd, but you can't help but love him, it was a very painless class to attend even though it was @ 950am, he gives A LOT of notes, i actually filled an entire notebook for the first time, readings are very important, exams were pretty tough but his RIDICULOUS CURVE will relieve you, thumbs up

You have to do all the reading & get all the notes - what he puts online are just outlines.(First Class works too). However, if you do that he has a HUGE curve, so you'll get at least a B, probably an "A." Tries hard to make things interesting...take this class!

no matter how much i studied always got a "C". multiple shoice tests were very specific and difficult. I know most ppl do well in his class, but may not be as easy as some say.

Pretty hard class. I heard he made it a lot harder bc it used to be too easy&too many people got As. Really need to go in depth with random facts in the book and need to get notes of what he says in class bc test is 50%book 50%notes. Nice guy but if your looking for an easy A dont recommend it.

He is a very nice guy. Will go over anything you want if you ask him in office hours. Tests are really specific. He says 50% notes and book but the book repeats about 25% of what he says. Charts are important memorize the top and the bottom. Go to some classes and read the book, EASY A.

1/3 As, 1/3 Bs, 1/3 Cs. A low B turned out to be an A on one exam. He's an awesome professor who really generates interest in the subject, not to mention gives you useful information for use later on in life. I would def recommend taking this class. Hansells a cool guy who really loves his diet coke

Definitely not an easy A. Though i took it for that reason. This should be a last resort as the tests are so specific and really have little to do with the lectures. A LOT OF READING.

It's possible with a lot of reading to do ok in the class (dont really need to go to lecture if u buy first class and read the book) but its very hard to get an A, and even if you do, you will have to deal with the fact that u wasted so much time on a class that, in the end, left u no smarter than when u first went in.

The easiest class I took and I got a C+. Don't take it for granted, not as easy as you think it is. I got Cs on all the exams and a C for the class. No on fails, which is really unfair since my total points were in the 70's and someone with 10 points passes. If you do take the class, don't take it for granted, that's all I can say.

Do NOT take this class if your intention is to get and easy A. The tests are not very easy and you need to do a lot of reading. He is an okay lecturer. If you are not willing to read 5 chapters per test at 20 pages minimum then dont waste your time!!!

great prof and great class! alot of reading and tests are harder than they seem. if you put time and effort into it you should be fine. it is all worth it. makes class fun, and has a funny sense of humor. wears the same clothes everyday which makes him even funnier...but all in all very good class. its a satisfying A if you get it.

Go to class and be entertained and learn at the same time! It's great! Not only that, but the things you learn will come in handy later in life - no matter what you end up doing. Tests are semi-difficult - most of the info is from the book. It's like lectures are for your benefit and the book is for studying before the exam. Read & you'll be fine.

Awesome class. I wish I had actually attended more lectures because the ones I did attend were interesting and he is pretty funny.. Read the book and print his notes(note:he leaves out some info for you to fill in at class) but i attended maybe about 10 times and have a B+.. could have definitely gotten an A if i went.

Boring class which is expected considering its about Hmo and PPo's. I struggled to stay awake, however easy A if taken seriously. Go to class and buy the notes on somerset st. BOring subject but the prof. does his best to keep it interesting, mad props for that.

Read the book for this class. And even if the topics don't always interest you, the presentation he gives will keep you paying attention. This guy is funny; he's also very clear and very smart, drawing on a lot of experience. I'll miss him!

definitely a good prof who seems to really enjoy what he's teaching. his jokes can get annoying but he's very upbeat which makes it easy to pay attention. material is interesting and good to know in general. much of it does seem to be more for premed than sociology majors though. exams are not bad, just read the book. i would recommend this class!

Dr. Hansell is a really good professor and he makes the classes fun. He brings useful information to class, whether or not you want to go into the medical field. You can make an A if you go to lecture and read the book. Exams are not cumulative. If you're looking for a fairly easy, really interesting class, I suggest Soc of Med and Health Care.

Easy!! I didn't go to a single class for the final, didn't have any notes other than the ones he put online, and I got an A. I just read the assigned chapters. The other two tests were just as easy, I needlessly spent money on first class notes and overstudied. The class was interesting when i bothered to wake up for it... 9:50s are not my thing =X

Love this guy! He has waaaaay too much energy for the morning, but it keeps you interested, listening, and most importantly awake. He makes it sound like he uses the book a lot more than he does- most of his "right from the book" exam questons are covered in lecture. Definately take him!!!

This was a good class. Just go to the lecture (60 % of the class doesn't!) and do the readings before the tests(three)! Very generous curve, and interesting subject matter. Only complaint is that he tries a little to hard to be funny.

He keeps lecture interesting with jokes....some funny. His exams are weird. He puts random questions on the exams that you would never think to be on the exam. I don't think that was fair. For the most part you can read the book an ddo fairly well.

VERY INTERESTING COURSE! He is a very dynamic lecturer that really knows how to keep peoples attention. Granted some repeated jokes get old after a while, he is still pretty funny. Only 3 exams, but a very generous curve. Just pay attention in class and skim the material in the book and you should do pretty well.

Medicine and healthcare was a really easy class with a BAD time. 9:50s are never any fun, and Hansell's attempts at being a stand-up comic didn't really help. (he's not THAT funny guys...LoL). There was this stupid kis who sat in the front row and asked a million questions during every lecture - I don't think he realized that everyone hated him.

This class was great!! Early, but he keeps you awake with interesting material. Large lecture, attendance not required, but lect material is def necessary for the exams. If you take good notes and review the book chapters before each exam it is really easy to get a good grade. Generous curve at end, 2/3 of the class ends up with A's or B's

This class was extremely hard to get an A in. You have to know obscure details. Memorize the book! I don't know why anyone would say that all you have to do is come to class. Hansell is not funny at all and is really annoying. Would never recommend this class although interesting. Not an easy A.

Hansell is an organized professor, his material was easy to understand. His exams are rather easy and his curve is generous. Above all, its pretty interesting. Some lectures are slow, but, that happens in all classes i guess.

This is an extremely interesting course and a very important issue to modern society. However, I was disappointed overall. It's not an easy A at all, and reading the book can be so tedious and boring at times. His tests are curved, but I feel like the difference between getting an A or B is how lucky your guesses are.

For a 210 class the exams are INSANE. 3 exams 20 questions from book and 20 from lectures and he curves them all. The final curve in the end is terrible. I got a lower grade in the end then I did on my first two exams. He would not need such an outrageous curve if people did well on the exams. This is not an easy class and could lower your GPA.

This class is not that bad. Def. not as easy as I expected, I got a B on both exams so far though and didn't study TOO hard. You do have to read the book and attend class, I missed a few and this may be the difference between an A and a B. Sometimes its hard to go to a 950 though because he's so excited and energized and it's kind of annoying.

taking him right now. the funny thing is the less and less I went to class, the higher grade I got. The key is reading the book. Do crap for the class except for a few days before the exam. Really read the book and you'll get an A. If you're not willing to read, this class is not for u.But if u are willing get an A for a couple days of work,why not

Professor Hansell knows his stuff and prevents it in a clear, organized manner. Read the book, take notes, go to class, and you'll do well. He's entertaining and the subject material is interesting.

You're definitely going to learn a lot from this guy.....he is SO interesting! I love this class. I only have one problem, and that's the exams. Some questions are really easy, but others are VERY specific from the book and sometimes you ask yourself, "why?" Just because you might have picked up some RANDOM fact doesn't mean you learned more.

He is not easy professor. the class is hard, the tests are too much to remember the material in both book and notebook chapter. You just can see your grade in the web, but you don't where you got wrong, he will never give test back, because he is lazy,if he gave the tests back, he will make change from the tests in each semster when he used it.

Don't take this class. I took it as an easy elective on the side, but the class isn't as easy as I expected. 3 exams make your whole grade, no extra credit or other assignments, and his exams can be tricky. He is a nice guy but his class is somewhat ridiculous.

He is quite possibly the worst teacher ive EVER had in my entire educational life. He designs his test to make u fail. Be prepared to put in a good 20 hrs a wk in studying for this class and maybe u will get a D, If God loves u. If u r planning on taking this class u should buy the book now and start memorizing it. This class should be a 400 level.

exams are hard and he teaches strictly using outline-format powerpoints. even though i did all the readings and went to all lectures i still ended up hurting my gpa. frustrating class. i DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!

your grade is directly proportional to the number of times u go to class. however, i do not recommend this class because it is just a bunch of reading and memorization. 3 exams. 3rd is the hardest. 40 questions, 20 from the book, 20 from lecture. 86=A, 85=B+ 84=B the curve is definite, he wont give u any extra points.

As long as you read the book, you'll do fine. But, it's best to read or review the book shortly before the exam that way it's fresh. Grades are curved so that only 30% of the class gets an A.

The class is way harder than what I expected. I don't think the material was hard to understand, but his tests are tricky because he makes you read 6 chapters and picks only 40 questions. Its hard to pick and choose what's important. Do not take this CLASS! Because of two points, I got a D, but he doesn't care.

A good class. Yes, there is text-book upkeep. However, he grades by 1/3s. 1/3 recieves A's, 1/3 B's, 1/3 C's. This makes the class very easy, considering 2/3s of the class are retarded athletes, sorority girls, and moron sociology majors. Get an A on the first exam and stay ahead of the curve.

Ok, this class is quite easy if you just attend the lectures and read the book. If you don't do that, it's going to be difficult for you. The exams weren't too bad, but you definitely need to put in an effort to study. The professor tends to make some corny jokes, but they're so corny that I actually found them to be funny. Good class.

This class was all right, as long as you actually went to the lectures. Exams were fairly easy, spilt in half between lecture questions and reading questions. Anyone can do well as long as they read the text and go to lectures.

this class is easy to do well in. 3 exams. very generous curve system. this class was interesting. he posts outlines online, so you can follow around and take notes on them, during lecture. not necessarily and easy A, but a very easy B

This class does not have hard material, but his exams are very tricky and there are no chances for extra credit. All his tests are multiple choice (40 questions) on lecture and the chapters. You need to read all the chapters and look over notes veryy veryyy carefully or you will not do well at all.

I thought his class was excellent and I learned more about healthcare systems than I ever have by reading the news. The material is easy, and the exams aren't hard if you study both the book and the lecture notes. The curve is very generous (I got an A thanks to the curve), and the tests are not cumulative. i really liked this class and professor hansell. you really need to read the book to do well on his tests. the information is not too hard to grasp but his questions can be very tricky and unless you read the book it can be tough. take this class for an easy B! not an easy A.

The info in his lecture outlines is mostly from the book. He acts like he wants to help you but he loves to shoot students down. Just suck up to him and you'll be ok.

He's a great professor. He is interesting and fair... exams are half book, half lecture, so you HAVE to go to class and read, but it's not hard to do. He's always telling cute little jokes to keep the attention of the students and you can tell he loves what he does. Take this class if you want a good professor!

this class was not a GPA killer.. got an A even though almost failed the 3rd exam. hes a very enthusiastic teacher, you can just read the chapters the weekend before the exam and you can get an A. the material is not difficult at all. just tricky exams.. VERY GENEROUS curve like he always says

GREAT TEACHER. lectures are very interesting. Although attendence is necessary for the exams, the class itself is a good class. He is a great teacher!! The exams are based half on the book and half on the notes. Read and study and you are guarenteed at least a B. especially with his curve.

this class is great..easy to get an A in forsure! if you don't do well then its your own fault. Not boring, even though he has lame jokes. Just read the book and you'll do good. Going to class is deffinatly helpful though!

This professor is great. I have an A just from going to lectures and outlining the chapters in the book. I HIGHLY suggest outlining chapters fr this class and reading lecture notes and you'll do fine.

Hansell is not a hard prof. and neither is the class persay, its all in the way he teaches and grades. 50% is notes from class and 50% from book. you don't need to know names, dates or %'s, but what else is there? Only 30% of the class gets A and 30% b's 40% get a C D or F. I don't recommend him unless you're good with retaining alot of book info.

his lectures are really irrelevant to the readings. readings are more interesting and relate to sociology. lectures dont even really seem necessary. he does have lame jokes and if you have no patience, just go on facebook. class is kinda worth it.

Not an easy class, don't be fooled by the curved grade, if you don't read the book and retain info, you will not pass the class. NO study guide, to vague in presentation, and technical/detailed in testing!! If you do not have to take this class, don't!

this class was very interesting and I really enjoyed it. Hansell really explains everything well and makes it very understandable. As long as you pay attention and read the chs before the exams you should be able to get an A with the curve. It's not that bad, but you do need to make an effort.

Just use study blue for the book notes and class notes. Cram the night before you don't have to know names, dates, or percentages. Just know the stereotypes and basic information on the notes and you'll be good for at least a b. BE AWARE IF YOU DON'T GET AN A YOU WILL RECEIVE B, HIS B+ curve is one point. Like 70-78 = B a 79 = B+ 80< = A

Easy if you read the book at least once and the notes once. Took me a day to study for each exam, the final took two days because the chapters were lengthy. He's a cool guy, I'd recommend this guy.

Topic isn't too interesting but Prof Hansell really tries his best to make it interesting by sharing his own experience. Rely on lecture notes & the textbook to get an A, which isn't hard with the generous curve! You could get 75% of the exam questions right and get a solid A. Exams are NOT cumulative. Recommended prof!

AWESOME CLASS! If you are interested in physicans, health care and hospitals' "dark sides" you will enjoy this course a lot. 3 exams including the final and no other assignments, but you MUST read the chapters in the book. Dr. Hansell is super fun and nice, and no attendance is taken at lectures but BE THERE. 60% of each exam is lecture-based.

Exams were so easy! and the curve is ridiculous. Easy A. although the slides arent detailed so it would benefit you to go to class. Also he is really nice and attempts to make jokes despite the dry material. Awesome prof

Great professor. He made some boring topics fairly interesting. Attendance does help. If you just listen and take notes you will do fine. Some questions come directly from the book so reading does help as well. The curves were also very good and the class is worth taking.

He is such an adorable person. he is very clear with what he wants.. but dont underestimate him. his exams could be easy if you read JUST like he tells you to.. paragraph by paragraph being outlined.. if you dont.. this class could be a nightmare. An A isnt impossible. 30% class gets A, 30% B and from there down... still need studying

hes a good professor. his lectures are pretty much useless so i dont bother going to lecture just read the book and you should Ace the exams, they are straight out of the book. He also curves. hes a pretty good professor. Just read the book and you should do fine.

Good professor, fun course. He likes to lighten the mood with some humor, which is always welcome. Go to the lectures and read the book thoroughly or you won't do well, but the curve is super generous. The book sucks by the way, very repetitive and half of it cites 1960s/70s studies. 400 pages of text that could be said well in 100.

Lectures are NOT mandatory, though you will be responsible for the information. Professor Hansell is an extremely charming and funny guy - the atmosphere in the lecture hall is very welcoming! The curve is also VERY, VERY high. If you read the book and understand basic concepts, there's NO WAY you can't get an A, if not at least a B.

TESTS ARE YOUR GRADE. He curves well in your favor if you do ok. must read material and get class notes. should do well but NOT AN EASY A if you do not read and come to class. I must have missed 5-7 classes in total, I did not have a class buddy so i had to find the notes. Managed to get an A. Take this class as elective

Professor Hansell is a nice guy. However, being that his class was only offered at 9:50 am, he put me straight to sleep. Anyways, this class is not an easy A. You can study your butt off and think you got an A in the exam and then end up with a C because the cutoff between a B and a C is like 1 point.

NOT AN EASY A! I took this class assuming it would be an easy elective. But i was so wrong. The class is in the morning and his lecture puts you to sleep. Th lecture slides are absolutly useless and you have to read the whole book and memorize to pass the exams. They only have 40 M/C and so its very easy to do bad in them.

Class isn't hard. 3 tests all 40 multiple choice questions. The questions are half from his lecture and half from the book, so reading of the chapters are important. He curves, so if you put in some work it works in your favor. Lecture can be boring since it's so early, but it's not bad.

Hansell was a good teacher, clear and told you what you need to know, sorta. Half the exams are what he tells you in class, the other half is from the textbook. He asks you obscure details from the textbook as well, so watch out. Lectures are long, but he is funny and cracks decent jokes every now and then. You need to put in the work

Professor Hansell is my all time favorite professor. It's a lot of studying and material for each exam, but the curve is super generous. He makes lectures super funny and can always get me laughing at 9am. I highly recommend! Google docs are a life saver for exams though

The professor obviously knows what he is talking about. He goes into great detail should you have any question about the material and need help. Tests are from lecture and textbook (all of which is fair game). But the curve is very generous because he understands that his tests are difficult. Great guy though.

Professor Hansell is really awesome. The lectures may be boring at times but he makes you want to do well. There's a lot of reading before each exam and you can't skip class. Three multiple choice exams, final isn't cumulative, and the curve is really good. Definitely take this if you're studying medicine and want an easy A.

Excellent professor. He runs each lecture the same way: opens up with current news, begins lecture, and ends two minutes early. He discusses the content thoroughly and gives examples with everything for clearer understanding. If you don't understand, ask a question, he'll gladly answer. Definitely pay attention. Review lecture AND book material.

Steve's the man! Great class for those interested in the social aspect of the medical profession and the fundamentals of Medicare/Medicaid and the Physician's Challenge. Great speaker and funny, making the class one not to doze off to. Very experienced and uses his own studies as examples! The grade is based on three exams (lecture+book) study hard

Although I did well in the class, I would never take him ever again. His exams are ridiculous... The exam itself is "not hard" but the reason why people do so badly is because he asks random questions and answer choices are all similar. The amount of reading/cramming information in your head is insane compared to what you're tested on. Gluck.

Hansell's expectations are ridiculous even though the grade is based on three multiple choice exams. Exams are essentially playing a game of trivia expecting you to remember the most insignificant, worthless facts. He'll put extreme emphasis on certain facts only to wind up being omitted on the exam. No clear exam outline or guideline is given.

one of the easiest classes ive taken at rutgers so far. Professor hansell was one of the best because of his lectures-which are very interesting. The exams themselves were not hard at all because most of it comes from the book and lectures!

Course grade is based on 3 exams. You NEED to read the book and attended all lectures to pass. Personally I found this class to be hard b/c the exams' answer choices are similar to one another and they are ambiguous. You can walk out thinking you aced the exam, but find out that you failed it. Curve is generous. Don't take unless needed.

Hansell is extremely engaging and made a morning lecture interesting. You HAVE to read the book and attend lectures to do well. The exams are a bit ridiculously detailed, but the curve is great. There are 3 exams that have 40 questions each. 78+ was an A this semester.

Sociology of medicine and health care - He has 3 exams, 40 questions each - 20 from lectures and 20 from the book. If you don't attend class, you're going to fail. A lot of the questions from his exams come from his lectures that aren't covered on the slides he provides. He curves A LOT and he's passionate and friendly about the course.

Professor Hansell is engaging, comical, and very eager to help his students. I didn't attend lecture much; I found a lot of the materials from lecture and the text to overlap. 3 exams, all 40 ques and none are cumulative. His exam questions are very superficial, if u know your stuff then it's cake. Gracious curve, be slightly above avg for an A.

83+/120(3x 40 pt exams) was an A this semester. This is NOT an easy A class. Only take if needed and interested in the medical field. He has a generous curve where 30% get As, 30% Bs, 30% Cs, 5% Ds, and 5% Fs. I got an A from being points above the average for every exam. Hansell is a great guy, but the class is too hard for the average student.

If you show up to class, listen, and do the reading you will have no problem getting and A or B. There are three exams that are 40 questions each. Each exam half of the questions are from the book and half from the class lecture. The curve is generous unless you happen to fall in the average category. To get a C you only not be the bottom 10%.

He truly cares about the material he teaches and likes to make jokes. In order to do well in his class you MUST study by reviewing your notes that you take on lectures and the assigned textbook chapters. 3 exams total, each containing 20 questions from his lecture and 20 questions from the book. Test questions get specific so outline the chapters.

While he is a cool guy and animated during lecture, he only grades you on 3 exams. His tests are NOT easy, super tricky. Tests on material from lectures and the book. Not an easy class. You need to know lectures and textbook inside and out. Generous curve but I would avoid if you're not a good test taker.

Hands down the best lectures I've had at Rutgers. Exams are hard but the class was so informative and Prof hansell is an amazing professor and makes the lecture as more of a story than anything.

Prof Hansell is hilarious and makes his lectures interesting, even if some of the material is a little dry. Exams are based on lectures and the textbook (which covers different material). MC exam, no trick questions. You have to put in the work for an A, but overall not a difficult course if you go to class and do the reading.

This class wasn't too bad, just probably harder than a sociology class should be. However, getting about a 75% test average is in the A range. Hansell was a really nice guy and made the lectures pretty entertaining, but the info you need to know for tests are basically a compilation of medical fun facts and the class is just lots of cold memorizing
