note notes notes and he is stuck in the 80's don't hold it against him
my writing hand hurt after taking notes all damn class!!!
This guy knows how to make class fun. Actually listens to your comments in class
thoroughly enjoyed his classes. funny guy
i really like this guy, the exams are actually on stuff that you can understand, it is a great class.
Has little man syndrome.
makes stats easy to understand
if you like to space out, this is the course for you - all his notes go on the overhead and he's really slow about switching them. Kind of a funny guy; I'd take his class again.
he is so funny and he really makes psych fun to learn. i would definately take another course he taught!
helpful and funny - take his course
No Comments
cool and interesting ... was he wearing a skin tight leather jacket?
Dr. Hladkyj is an excellent professor who often likes to be addressed by his first name. His courses are very dynamic, full of discussions which always bring something new and often thought provoking! He makes you THINK, which is THE way to learn!
good course
Good teacher, easy tests!
Good course, very helpful and very human. Good prof to take this course from.
lectures directly out of the text, easy tests, A+ potential
wow. i signed up for psychology and got a course filled with this guys personal and ridiculous political opinions that were laughably out of touch with reality.
greatest prof ever!! very nice, funny and interesting, lecture notes very clear and his tests are easy!!
this is a good class, his tests are kinda weird but most people do really well on them. Steve is really funny, he will keep you interested!!!
interesting lectures. very nice prof. very fuuny too. he makes boring topics very lively as well. exams are kind of ambiguous but they're not that bad! i'll take another course from him if given the chance.
Sometimes, he has a few questions on the tests that could go either way, even if you know the content well. But like somebody else said, if you know your stuff, definite A+ potential. Interesting and funny too!
Very Intersting prof!! Keeps you awake in class with his sense of humor!
A+ potential like somebody else said....sometimes his test questions are a little ambiguous; however, their relative ease and his great personality in class make up for it.
Awesome class! Even for a night course I can usually stay awake!... good teacher great teaching skills!
Excellent Prof. Nice man very funny and makes the boring stuff relate to real life so its really neat. Hes not a fossil like some profs. He is fair and all the stuff is from the text. I would love to take this guy again. I would very highly reccomend him.
nice guy, funny. Tests are kinda tricky at times but not a prob.
Easy class, funny guy, but just remember its about spewing back what he told you, not what you actually know. Also he generalizes & acts like an expert on things he clearly knows little about.
When he gets going on a crazy antic he is quite hilarious to observe. Gets excited, paces, arms flailing, voice goes funny. Excellent prof and very friendly and approachable. Always has smokes hanging out of his shirt pocket, funny guy.
hated the guy at first- very blunt and rude- but you get used to him and he can be funny. tests are relatively easy, only mc and notes perfectly sum up the textbook, but classes can be really boring. seems to care about his students. text he's using is good but LONG (40pg chapters)
Great prof, easy tests.
He always amuses the class with the same old stories but his tests are easy
He is a great prof for everything he teaches. Very Funny, makes it easy to stay awake, gives examples that you will remember...high five.
Good luck trying to say or spell his last name, but he is probably one of the best profs I've ever had. Clear lectures, practical application, comparing and contrasting theories and ideas. Patient. I dunno what to say, you get some really bad profs and you get awesome ones. Fast grading.. etc.. :)
A great prof.Enjoyed his lectures; very straight forward and clear.Tests were also very straight forward. One of my favorite profs for sure. There's no hidden material, so if you come to class and read the text, you'll have an A as it should be.He engages you in the topics with humour and good example
social psychology isnt the most interesting class, but steve is cool!!!!
Definitely have to agree with the blunt and rude part, but undeniably an awesome prof! Just hilarious and entertaining, tests were very straightforward and fair.
Extremely fair prof. Tests were mostly based on notes and text to further explain. No tricks, and VERY entertaining. Hardly looked at the clock once the whole semester. Hopefully he is back next year.
One of my favourite profs!
Interesting fellow...near the end of the course, he seemed to get a bit impatient with people..not sure what that was about... However, he explains things very clearly.
Funny and entertaining. His lessons are straight to the point. Really nice and definitely one of the best profs I've had so far. :)
what can i say? he is the best prof I ever had. every theory is related with an interesting example that facilitates remembering, an A is easy if u just go class~
best prof i have ever had. Great examples that make it easy to ace tests.
He was the best prof for first year Psych. His notes are thorough and very organized; they follow closely with the textbook. His tests were tough but pretty easy if you study his notes and the textbook. He's a nice guy, good sense of humour. One suggestion: do NOT show up late. He gets annoyed. Otherwise...he's great.
Best prof ever! His tests aren't hard at all, and i got my first A+ in his class:D Plus he's funny!
By far the best prof I've ever had. Funny, and a great teacher!
hes knows his stuff and i find his lectures interesting. Agreed, he is funny but its even more funny when he yells at the noisy people! recommended! take his class its good
One of the best profs I have ever had.. He is funny, dynamic and his tests are very fair. It was a good course made better by a great prof. I would take another one of his classes any day.
Definately the best prof I've had over three years. I never missed a class because he was so interesting to listen to. Of course the material was interesting itself, but his presentation is excellent.
This class is super easy. You don't even need to read the text, just the notes to get an A+. However, it is about verbatim regurgitation; Steve clearly does not keep up with developments in the field and has trouble incorporating new information into his preexisting "schemas". Not a very intelligent guy, but his class is super easy.
Great prof...he actually makes class interesting, he's not one of those profs who simply reads his notes as if we can't read them ourselves he gives real life examples that really help you understand the material instead of just memorizing it.
One of the best profs at U of M, notes are good and organized, he give awesome real life examples. Tests are very easy but studying and going to class gets you that A+. Mostly I read the notes and the text well help but more emphasis on notes i would say anyway. TAKE HIM THO HE IS A GOOD PROF!
Great prof!
My favourite professor first year. Enerjectic, interesting and funny, and gets down to business when needed. Also, I asked him a question after class and we talked for an hour.
first time ive left a comment for any prof... this guy knows his sh*t, n gives amazing examples... made boring material into the most interesting class ive ever taken
Energetic prof. Good lecture notes on overheads. Great examples to illustrate points. Nice reasonable guy too. Nothing to complain about.
He is full of energy and he uses simple practical examples to get his point across. If he didn't mention it in class it is most likely not on the test and if you need help he is available
Amazing prof! Very funny, easy, and his assingments are not to complex. I took a m-f course, 2 hours a day and every class felt 45 mintues long.
A++!!! He's amazing! Very very good!!! No other words describe him!
Don't listen to any of the sad happy faces. This is the perfect elective. Easy easy, exciting class and I have absolutely no interest in psychology. don't have to buy the textbook. I would love to take any class he teaches!
he is a awsome prof, you can learn a lot from his class, he explained things well, and using real life exmple to help yo understand. his test is easy, as long as you go to calss, and take his notes, need a little reading at home. take his clss.
Was a very interesting teacher. I wouldn't have even had to read the book because he was such a good teacher
I took him for intro psych, and he is one of the best profs U of M has. He keeps your interest for the entire class by making the material interesting and providing in-depth relevant examples that help you remember the material. He gave the overseas kids bonus marks, while he wouldn't give to the rest of ust that were born here. :(
Took Intro to Psych over the summer of 2005 and he was really great! The class was relatively easy. He explains the lectures really well (he's pretty organized too)! Hope to take other Psych classes with him before I leave the uni. :)
He was a great prof in Social Psych, but in the Research Methods Lab (PSYC 2250), his explanations aren't all that clear. He tends to be grumpy and not very helpful. Good for social psych, but avoid for the research methods lab, unless you want to be put down constantly. Don't take this personally though....he tends to put everyone down.
he's very good
Not a nice person. If you ask him a question about the lab he has a talent of making you feel like a dumb ass.
Used lots of good examples and was fairly dynamic.

Steve is such a good prof. First of all, he lets us call him Steve even though he has a PhD. Secondly, he clears EVERYTHING up for you. Most of the profs in this course are useless. Ask Steve for help, and you'll understand it all in about 10 minutes! He's funny and sometimes bitter, but that just makes him more funny. Easygoing highly recommended!
How can you not like Steve? The guy is energentic, enthusiastic, and entertaining. He's got all the E's! He's not an ass, he's just introverted (which he admits).
Dr. Hlakyj is a great teacher; always kept the class interesting. Makes it easy to want to learn the material. Not a fan of class distractions (cell phones etc.)
This guy rules. He is very clear. He can be difficult sometimes and hard on you..but it's because he wants you to learn. Teaching is not an egotrip for him..its all about the student. Best prof ever!
He does a good job of answering emails if you have questions, is VERY helpful when you have a problem, and is usually clear (depends on how hard the material is). He knows his stuff and is good at what he does, I really have no complaints about him. He's not like a revolutionary-amazing-amazing teacher, but he's definitely way better than most.
very energetic, makes great analogies, and his notes are fantastic summaries of text material + some supplemental info
Had Steve for Psyc 2250/2260 labs and some lectures. Very passionate guy, very helpful. Gives printed out notes that help a lot, even though the textbook is confusing. Does his best to make it interesting. I definately recommend him.
The class is straightforward, work load was low and was interesting. Sometimes Steve seemed to contradict himself...had to ask alot of questions. He could benefit from a diversified education. Makes alot of mistakes not relating to psych. "Billions of years ago, when people were living in caves..."????
hes awesome!
A great prof!
While his class isn't that hard, he is probably the worst prof I have EVER had. He is ignornant and rude, and when people ask questions he makes them feel stupid. He is unclear with instructions and sometimes refuses to help. He has a TERRIBLE tember and the littlest thing will set him off. thank god for the TA.
Dr. Steve made me understand Statistics. I got a D in Stats 1000 (6 years ago) and an A+ in PSYC 2260 this past summer because he makes it understandable!!! Those who complain about him obviously did not put in the required effort for the course. I got to know him over the two summer courses I took and he's a nice and dynamic person.
great professor
If you have to take this class, take it with him!!! He wants everyone to get As, and does total reviews before exams including exactly what types of questions for each chapter.Compared to the guy I had for 2250, Hladkyj is amazing. I've never seen his temper, he's always been friendly and accomodating. If you're nervous about the Stats, take Hladky
great! just great. always makes class interesting
great proff! looking foward to be taking 2260 with him!
Best prof, take 2250 and 2260 with him and you will see what I mean.
probably one of the best profs ive ever had. exams were fair and straightforward. has interesting stories too.
Really great prof. Try to get in his class and lab section. He makes everything seem really simple. Exams are easy if you study your notes. Only needed the textbook for the lab. Don't have your phone on and you won't see his temper!
He is a solid prof. He gives good lectures and uses a projector to put all of his notes up. Really prepared me for future psychology classes. Every one I know told me to take research methods with him and they were right.
great prof. really funny. basically all of his lecture material comes from the text book.
Great prof! He even analyzes the distribution for each question on tests, so as to find any inappropriate skews so that he can properly attribute bonus marks to the class. Usually worked out to +2 on each test. Talks for long lengths in class, however. Other than that, pretty funny guy, informative and overall great prof! Highly recommended!
He made psych stats easy to understand when everyone told me how difficult this class would be. His tests are really easy and straightforward. Also, his notes are easy to understand. His personality makes the class interesting. Don't use your cell in his class and you won't see his temper. I'm really sad he got sick this past semester. He is missed
One of the best psyc profs there is! He manages to makea boring class like psych stats interesting.
One of the best and funniest and most interesting teachers I've ever had. Makes complicated stuff so easy and most of the class very interesting to pay attention to. Helpful and understanding and fair and soooooo smart. Take his class!
Though the subject matter is boring, he is good at teaching it and knows his stuff. He uses humour once in a while which helps. Tests are very straightforward. A bit strange one-on-one when asking for help but other than that, good prof.
His favorite word: ROBUST!!!
Class was pretty easy. Tests were easy. Has a fun sense of humor. However, he is a bit of a jerk when it comes to one-on-one communication.
Amazing prof! Truly Steve has won me over! I found him a riot, and for some reason, he loves stats. He knows alot, and wanna get in his good books? Go to his help sessons with questions. He always seemed to like that. In class he asks alot of redundant questions, so read into which ones to answer. Read the text book, he adds easy qu. just to see
Really great prof!!
steve rocks. The material is fairly boring and complex. Most of the time i didn't even notice he was teaching math. He was very funny and friendsly. Also his tests were very fair. basically if you knew what was in the text you woudl do well. His tests were pretty straight forward to...no trick question. One of the greatest porfs i had.
Had him for research methods, and he does analyze his questions and asses the skew to each question to ensure his questions were fair! He keeps things simple and not boring, to some extent! Overall good prof, compared to most!
Dr. Steve is HILARIOUS! I spent more time in class writing down his quotes than the notes. "What do turtles eat?... I dunno, TURTLE FOOD?" "Have you ever seen cats having sex? It's HORRIBLE!" "No one cares how much CREAMY PESTO I eat!" His voice does this growly demon thing when he is emphasizing words. You will love him! Makes a dry course fun.
Steve, as he will ask to be called, is awesome. He is hilarious, he goes on little rants sometimes which he eventually connects to the material and most important of all his exams are straight forward, JUST STUDY WELL. He makes a boring class fun. Robust is also his favourite word as he will let you know haha! Awesome prof for a boring class!
Prior to attending this class, I had absolutely no interest in STATS and feared the idea of having to go through it. Having finished this course I will say with complete honesty, a true pleasure to have taken this course! This man deserves acknowledgement for his ability to take something as dry as STATS and make it interesting. ROBUST!
Read the text and attend class. The material is dry, but he tries to liven it up with real-world examples and humour. Good teacher who takes time to answer questions and understands people's individual learning styles. But will he ever take off his jacket? :)
Very funny at times, but not very approachable. I found him quite rude when I asked him questions about the material or assignments. Overall good courses (as long as you don't have any questions).
Awesome prof! funny, helpful (assisted me when I went to review my exam scores and even gave me an extra mark for an accidental bubble sheet mistake!). when he gets excited about something he'll get a mad-scientist growly voice that is really funny. ROBUST!
One of the best profs ever! He's super hilarious and really gets into teaching. The course content is boring, but he makes it interesting. He likes to talk in a low voice sometimes when he emphasizes words, it's funny. He answers emails super quick and not with just one word responses, he actually answered my questions. Not super approachable tho
Its too bad that this course is mandatory for a psych major and that its most often taught by Steve. If you have the option, either dont take, or take with someone else! extremely hard to keep up with notes in class, not approachable whatsoever, will make you feel dumb for asking questions. not impressed with this prof at all..
Professor Hladykj is quite approachable and casual as well. He makes the students feel comfortable around him which is quite unique! He definitely knows his stuff and does a great job transmitting his knowledge to the students. Highly recommend taking a class with him
Overall awesome professor. I liked 2260 better than 2250, but his method forces you to take notes so it helped a lot to keep your attention. He gives sample exams - TRY THEM. They help a lot. Didn't really have to consult the textbook, but once in a while, it helps to read. And oh... He loves The Walking Dead. ^_^
He teaches well but his tests are sometimes hard. He's very funny too!
He's a funny guy. You MUST attend every single class because he doesn't post notes online and he sometimes goes too fast during lectures so I suggest using a laptop for taking notes. His lectures are pretty straightforward and his test are average.
Steve was a wonderful professor. His lectures were derived right out of the textbook. He made the information very clear and gave hints about what was important. He is a very funny guy and loves to teach. Even though the material is quite boring, his class is quite enjoyable. Great professor!
Lectures are mandatory, but mostly clear. He spent a lot of time talking about the walking dead. Text is covered pretty consistently and if you actually pay attention the tests aren't brutal.
Very good professor.Very passionate about his work.Read the textbook and don't miss class Tests are easy and straight forward
Wonderful prof. His lectures were derived from the textbook. He also tells his students hints about which might be on the test. Very good prof. Would take another class with him. His tests were fair.
"ROBUST!!!!!" and "Any of you watched The Walking Dead on Sunday night?" He's fun and helpful. The class is not hard if you do put some effort into it. He's cool and cares about students. "What they say about t-test? It's ROBUST!"
Steve is an AWESOME prof. He keeps the lectures entertaining, his style of teaching engages you. He keeps the notes simple and to the point. Attend the class and read the book. Put in the effort in the labs and there's no way you should get less than at least B or B+. He is also very helpful and approachable. Highly recommend him.
Best professor there is. I'm awful at math and ended up with an A+! His lectures are very clear and he let's you bring a cheat sheet into each test. All his tests are extremely fair and he is also enjoyable to listen to and keeps everyone laughing always.
Great Prof. Very helpful throughout the course and provided clear explanations of class material during his lectures. His sense of humour made the otherwise dull class material interesting.
Best prof I have had so far at university. He really cares about his students. Emails you the labs early so you can start them ahead of time. Test are fair. Textbooks are very helpful for the course.
great prof! funny and really helps understand the very dry content. he basically spoon feeds you everything for the lab. Tests are fair. Read the textbook, go to class and you'll do just fine.
One of the best and well respected professors at the UofM. Funny and Clearcut to the point. Very helpful and is always willing to meet with students after class. Has great respect for his students.
Steve is great. Lectures are funny and interesting. Most questions are from the text-book but he will include questions that are from lectures so while it's possible to get A+ not going most of the time (as I did) you WILL NEED to get notes from someone. Happily rephrases explanations and genuinely enjoys questions for the class. Best Prof yet
One of the awesomest profs ever! Love how he rants about technology, and one time, he spazzed in front of the class about how every piece of gadget that could be used for lectures weren't working (laptop, desktop, no overhead film, etc). Such a funny guy!
great prof. exams are fair and labs are made to boost your mark as long as you follow all the instructions. content is meh but he's a funny guy. gives review classes and hints at important things to know.
Gave a lot of hints to test question. Doesn't post slides but if you don't want to go to class he follows really closely with the textbook so you should still be able to do fine. If you do go to class don't bother studying the textbook. He lets you use a cheat sheet in 2260 and it is more than possible to fit the entire course on the page.
He's very clear, uses enough examples so we know how to do labs.
Do not miss class if you dont want to fall extremely behind. Pen and paper, no laptop. Lab with this class, absolutely cannot miss them either. Put your cell away during his class, dont even touch it, he will freak out at you infront of everyone. Class is very fair. You get to write your own cheat-sheet for tests which is a life saver.
Hilarious Prof, made going to class interesting. Gave good reviews before tests, and told you what kinds of questions to expect. Would for sure take another class with him.
Steve is a really funny prof. He makes this super boring material at least kind of interesting (considering these courses are mandatory for psyc majors). He does not put lectures up online so you must attend class, tests are fair, studying is still needed.
Steve is a very exceptional professor. His course notes are well organized and his teaching style is good. He shows up his slides but he doesn't read what's in it but he explains or breaks info down. Would love him to be my prof
Huge fan of Steve. He's super funny and really wants his students to do well! You don't have to come to class since his lectures are basically summarizations of the textbook but he does add some specific 'Steve notes' (as he calls them), which he sometimes asks about on tests. One of my favourite profs so far!
Professor Hladkyj is awesome! This course is mandatory for PSYC majors and he totally understand not everyone wants to be there. He provides extremely clear lecture material so there is no surprises on his exams. It consisted of three (non-cumulative) MC exams. There is also a lab component of the course. All in all he is a great professor!
I absolutely loved this course with this professor . you have to go to class to get the notes but his tests are really easy and you can get a good grade by simply listening in class and reading a textbook. His lectures were hilarious and he knew how to keep the class engaged. The lab at first seemed hard but its easy marks.
The labs are simple and really help to boost your mark. Lectures pull straight from the book (you could get away with not going). You'll have to read the textbook cove to cover whether you go or not. Boring subject but mandatory for a psych major.
steve is one of the best profs i have ever had. PSY 2250 - super easy. PSYC 2260 - very hard. and this is because of the content material, but steve does everything from labs, to practice exams to reviews classes to help. During his lectures he pinpoints things that we should know! he never makes anyone feel stupid for questions. He is hilarious
He's super nice and a great prof
Best professor I ever had hands down. 2250 was easy and 2260 was one of the hardest classes Ive ever taken and Steve took time to see me outside of lectures, before tests he gave us review time and was so funny with all the lectures which made the math interesting. MAKE sure you get Steve for 2260
Took PSYC 2250 and PSYC 2260 with Steve in my third year of undergrad. Seriously one of the best profs I have ever had. Lectures were very interesting and labs were pretty fun as well. Make sure you show up to class and review often! Exams were straight forward.
