Class was pretty hard because it was his first time teaching because he is a graduate student. Things were very easy in the beginning and got very hard very fast. Take Suen if you can because you will have a hard time with Calculus in this class.
Do not take take this class! He is no help to his students. Class got extremely hard very fast. Tests were near impossible. If you are not math inclined stay far away
Standard math class
Great teacher
First time teaching. He knew a lot about the subject, but not how to convey it. He had a lot of out of class help sessions that were nice. If you are not familiar with taking derivatives DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Starts easy and get very confusing, very fast.
Class was easy, but I mainly studied doing online quizzes and homework. Lectures are a total waste of time, it was hard to stay awake for them. My TA was great and helpful though. First two exams are easy but final is tough. Topics get harder, so don't relax after you do well on the first exams
I took him a year ago and he was awful. It was his first time teaching and he had no idea how to convey the material to us. He would get angry in class when you didn't understand. The TAs were our best best and he started tutoring halfway through the semester. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Great teacher, great course. Basic math. Freshman and got an A+.
This class is a horrible and lappano is too. He does not know how to clearly walk students through what he is teaching. One second he will be on one topic, and the next thing you know, he has already jumped to the next thing. He is very fast in his lectures so it is very hard to keep up. Tests are hard but if you study you should be okay. DONT TAKE
Professor Lappano is young and energetic. He is by far the most straight forward and best teacher of all business calc professors. He moves relatively fast but very approachable if you fall behind. A lot of online homework (WebAssign) and 4 online tests and 3 written tests. Written tests are much harder. Offers plenty of extra credit.
If you want the best chance at passing Business Calc, take Lappano. He gives you practice test that are very similar to the actual test. He's willing to talk to you after class and responds to emails rather quickly. Although it's hard to keep up with him at times, he offers 8% extra credit and gives you the info you need to get an A.
Mr. Lappano is a great teacher and I'm so glad I took him for business calc. Make sure to pay attention in the lectures. I took all my notes and basically lived at the smart lab for extra help. Tests are tough but he gives practice tests he goes over and are pretty much the exact same test just different numbers. Defiantly take him
He's brilliant, but uses math terminology that you probably won't be too familiar with. He writes REALLY fast and talks even faster, which gives you no chance to understand what you're scribbling down. Get ready to hear him say "question about it?" 500x but you're too lost to ask anything. If you go to SMART Lab and Friday sessions, you'll be fine.
Mr Lappano is awesome. Just listen to what he says. This is Business Calc, and of course you will have to work for it. But, he is a great teacher. Always there to help, truly does care, and a super cool guy. One of the best professors I have met at USF. He also gives extra credit.
Saved my butt this semester. He was very helpful, always there to clarify things until you understood the material. Make sure you go to his office hours if you need help.
He is very clear in his lectures.
Lappano is very clear in lectures and explains the concepts and problems in ways that are easy to understand. He answers all questions and cares about students. The practices tests are super similar to the tests, which are not too bad. He is a great business calc professor, I definitely recommend!!
Easy course. Gives up to 8% extra credit. Goes over the general idea of what the tests are going to be 2 days before them usually. (very clear) Also drops worst TestA grade which is 15% of your grade.
To someone who isn't good at math, this course is pretty difficult. The way Lappano has his grading scale set up, you really can't fail. He is willing to work with his students because he wants you to succeed. He usually shows up in the Smart Lab to tutor students before and after class. At the end of the semester he bumped our final grades 7 pts
Business Calc is just a hard course in general but I think Lappano does a pretty good job of teaching the material. He assigns A LOT of homework which is all due at once and the assignments take hours to complete, and the tests are kind of hard (but a lot like his study guides). He is a helpful guy if you ask for help. Gives extra credit.
He's a really great teacher for a hard class. I had never taken any kind of Pre Calc or any Calc before his class and I passed with a B+. Take advantage of the smart lab when Lappano is there because he will sit with you and help you until you understand it.
I came in to this class terrified that I wouldn't be able to pass (considering I had not taken a math class in 2 years) and I ended up receiving over a 100 in the class. Lappano is by far the best Business Calc teacher at USF and is very clear as to what expect from you on the tests. He gives out a ton of extra credit opportunities! Easy A
He is very good at explaining how to do the work but gives very difficult tests!
He is a good professor over all, and he knows the material he teaches. My one complaint is that he only knows how to teach one way. If you don't understand how he taught something, you're on your own. Plenty of room for extra credit with SMARTLab attendance and clicker questions. Do the work, and go to class and you should have no problem passing.
I struggled a lot with this class, but it's definitely not impossible to pass. Lappano goes through the material very quickly, making it hard to keep up. When he asks if there are any questions, he seems to get frustrated and angry when someone asks one. I didn't learn a thing in class, but the homework program will walk you through the problems.
Lappano has a great personality, but this class moves quickly! He doesn't have a great review and he only teaches you how to do things in one method. He doesn't explain thoroughly and he's always in a rush. If you do not have a great prior knowledge of trig, DO NOT take his course for pre-calc because you will teach yourself the entire course!
Professor Lappano is not one of the best math professor I had. He gives alot of hw. He gives out quizzes every week which are very hard. But he makes them open notes. He rushes threw the lectures. There are 4 tests and a final. He drops our lowest test grade. He doesn't have specific dates when he has the exams.
Calc with Lappano is very much doable for someone that has been out of the math game for a while, but if you don't study, don't expect to squeeze by. You can use a graphing calculator on the computer tests so some of the questions become freebies (e.g def. integrals) and he gives sample exams with very similar questions to the written tests. Study!
He doesn't know how to teach apparently. Seemed not interested in the subject he was teaching, which is precalc, so how expect students to be interested in it. Prof. Lappano seemed confused and unsure about the material. He also could not fill the whole class period. if you want to learn and pass, don't take him. Good luck.
Lappano is a good professor. his method is interesting and He knows what he is teaching. if you want to pass his class. you should focus in homework and quizzes that are harder than the tests and the Final Exam.
Mostly based on Mathlab, complete all the HW and Quizzes and you should be good. Tests were not too bad at the beginning, the hardest ones are towards the end of the course. Drops lowest test score.
Professor Lapping has by far the best math professor I have taken. I'm not terrible at math but it's not something I get right away either. He made Bus Calc easy to understand. There is a lot of homework but plenty of time to do it. I recommend doing it in the Smart Lab because you get extra credit. Just take him! You won't regret it.
I took him for Bus Calc and I'm so glad I did. Ton of hw but you are given a lot of time to do it. He offers extra credit and drops the lowest test grade. His study guides and sample test quizzes are a life safer. DO THEM. Honestly the only students who are giving him a poor rating are those who didn't do the work or try. Wish he taught Stats!!
To make up for his lack of teaching skills and the university's failing math policy, he just assigns a ton of busywork that doesn't help you learn.
Beware: he WILL assign last minute quizzes that do not relate to his lecture, this class has A LOT of homework, and the professor is VERY rude. He tries to dumb down the topics and it doesn't help when you go to do the homework, quizzes, and lectures. If you care about actually learning the topics, this is not the clsss for you.
Difficult class, but he's a decent professor. Nothing special, nothing terrible either. He can be a little confusing at times but he teaches us what we need to know.
I'm not really great at math, but somehow Professor Lappano's teaching style worked for me. At the beginning of the semester I was really struggling, but I met with him in the SmartLab a few times and he really cleared things up for me one on one. For a math class, it's hard for me to be enthusiastic, but if you're taking BusCalc, take it with him.
Awesome professor! He's straight-forward with what he expects you to know and doesn't try to trick you. He responds to e-mails quickly and is ALWAYS available to help students before, after and in-between classes in the SmartLab. I was terrified to take Business Calc but by mid semester, his class was my favorite to attend.
Difficult class, but Steve is a good professor and guy. Not like you have many options anyways, but he does about as good as you can as a prof.
Steve is great! Lectures are most useful if you've done the homework before-hand so you understand what he's trying to explain. If not you might be lost. Uses clicker questions for attendance. Peer leading questions are on tests. E.C. if you go to smart lab every week. Super nice, wants students to understand and succeed. In class & Smart lab tests
I personally didn't feel like the lectures were necessary. Everything was done in MLP and in smart lab. Attendance wasn't mandatory and I felt like it wasn't needed. He explains some things well, but I never enjoyed his way of teaching. I feel like that's just due to me not liking math and needing one on one teachings of it. Overall a good person.
Lappano is awesome! His lectures are hilarious, he tries to make everything clear and the second attempts on the Smart Lab tests are a saving grace! He drops the lowest test grade and his written tests are very similar to the study guide. Highly recommend!
Lappano is by far the best Business Calculus teacher at USF. He explains topics very well and will work with you if you have any questions. He drops the lowest test grade and going to the smartlab is extra credit. If you want to get an A in this class you can.
I wish he was my professor for all my classes. He doesn't waste time unlike other professors. He explains everything clearly and works out a lot of problems in class. I'm not great at math but managed to pull off a B+. I highly recommend him
He gives lots of HW. Not insanely difficult and the way the tests are structured is kinda cool. At the start of the semester he tells you he will not round grade so do not try to negotiate at the end. Would not round 89.8 to a 90. GPA killah.
Very good teacher. Pay attention in class because his lectures help. Bring your clicker as well. He does a pretty good of keeping you entertained in his lectures. He is left handed though which sucks when trying to take notes quickly in class.
Lappano starts off being rude but he ended up being pretty cool, dont let him scare you off first week. He drops a test grade, so you don't have to take the final. drops quizzes, and drops peer leader assignments. He's not the best teacher, but you can still get a pretty good grade because his sample tests are very helpful! also offered extra credi
Lappano is a great teacher, made Calc interesting and really wouldn't let you not pay attention. He's funny and keeps class short, knowing calc isn't the most interesting class. Go to class and do your homework and its an easy class with Lappano teaching.
He made me love math all over again! I took him over summer and his class was a breeze. Just do all the homework and study guide and you should be ready to ace this class. Don't get afraid over calculus, he makes it super easy for you.
Steve is absolutely hilarious, and makes math fun most of the time. Content is not too bad if you're decent at math, but he lays it all out nicely. HW and quizzes aren't too bad
Hes very sassy but it keeps the class entertaining. Im terrible at math and even had to drop pre calculus last semester. I was terrified when I found out I had to take business calc. However, I managed to get a B+. Hes a really great teacher and as long as you show up and do the hw and quizzes( which arent that bad) its impossible to fail.
Make sure you are always paying attention. He posts his lectures so you can review after class. The program he uses for home work and quizes (MLP) is hard but just max out on all the assignments and you will at least have a passing grade in the class. Drops lowest test grade and does not offer extra credit.
class was easy to me and I'm not very good at math. just make sure to come to class and do your hrs in the lab.
Professor is really good if you show up to class. He explains math concepts very well and always makes sure everyone fully understands. Lots of homework and quizzes though but the class is manageable as long as you attend the lectures.
Biz Calc with Lappano was pretty straight forward. The class is set up so that you can get an A. Ulimited attempts on quizzes and HW. Tests were very generous imo.
He's a nice guy. He explains everything very well. Doesn't waste your time and let's you leave early. He gives sample tests that are the same as actual tests.
He's a nice guy and works hard to make the content easy to understand. The tests are also just like the practice exams.
His lectures, peer leading sessions, homework/quizzes are irrelevant to what he gives you for his tests. On his test he marks you for things even though they are right. You have to write your answers in complete sentences for your tests to get any type of credit, he does not explain this til after your grade is given back. Tests 45% of your grade
This professor really knows what he's talking about. While the material can be somewhat intimidating, he knows how to keep the class engaged and focused. He's also a good-looking guy lol!
Awesome professor who cares about how his students do in class. As long as you stay on top of the class its not hard to get an A.
Hes a pretty cool guy and does explain the problems pretty well. Gives you a study guide pretty similar to the test. His TAs grade your test pretty unfairly though. The tests are on Saturday which are not convenient and you have class on fridays aka peer-leading which gets annoying as well. Quizzes can get difficult but you have unlimited tries.
Not sure why he has 3.8/5 i would definitely give him a 5/5. Makes lectures entertaining and fun. Very understandable when it comes to grading. And the homework is not hard to keep up with. You have to go to class to learn and answer TH questions but since he makes lectures fun its not a problem.
Really makes the material easy to digest.
He is a good teacher and is flexible with dropping assignments. There is weekly homework, quizzes, TopHat, SMARTLAB, and four exams with the lowest one dropped. The exams are balanced out with all of the other assignments, so you can do average on the tests but still get a good grade in the class. He can be slow with responding to emails though.
Steve is a phenomenal professor and person. He presents outstanding lectures and really goes out of his way to ensure you are understanding the content as long as you are willing to put in the effort. His class is challenging and the workload is reasonable. He will challenge you only to make you better. Rest assured he is very flexible.
One of the best math teachers I have ever had, probably the best. The lectures are very clear and a fun time. Tophat questions daily. Extremely accommodating with the pandemic and always checked in to ensure we were good. Even updated us on TP stock at Costco! Go to class and pay attention and this is a relatively easy A. Definitely take Lappano!!
I loved this professor. I went into this class with a background in economics and Calculus so I thought that this class was extremely easy. The professor uses lots of examples and has a hw assignment and quiz that goes with each lecture. Quizzes can be taken infinitely many times. There are two chances to take every test. Easy A
great professor. funny. definitely don't miss lectures. he makes calculus easier to understand.
TAKE HIM! Amazing teacher who cares about his students and loves what he teaches. He's hilarious, super personable and friendly. The course was online cause of COVID and he was totally flexible. Unlimited quiz and homework attempts. Four tests, one is always dropped. Would take again! Easy A. Thought I'd hate calculus, but its actually pretty easy!
One of the best Math teachers I have ever had. He wants you to succeed and there are also great tutors provided for you during the week. He has pre-recorded lectures with participation quizzes throughout. Homework, quizzes, and tests are completed via MyMathLabs. The lowest grades for each category are dropped at the end of the semester.
Steve is legitimately one of the best professors ever. His class is about 2-3 online homework's every week along with 1-2 quizzes online as well. There are 4 tests and he drops your lowest. He also drops the lowest quiz and homework grade. Theres a Peer Leading assignment weekly and f you have a problem, REACH OUT HE WILL WORK WITH YOU! great guy!
Took this course online. I love it. I wish Stephen had other courses. He makes material very easy to understand. Definetely recommend!
His lectures are good, but I mostly used MyMathLabs to study. His tests are really similar to the practice. The homework and quizzes are tedious but doable (if you have lots of time), and the quizzes can be retaken multiple times. Also, no proctorio during exams, which is an instant 5/5 in my book.
Literally the best math professor I've ever had. Yes you have to watch his lectures for a grade but they are interesting and he makes the material easy to learn. No proctorio is used but you still have to know most of this type of material. Unlimited attempts on quizzes and he gives you more than enough time to complete the HW. Great guy.
Great guy. Super funny, kind, understanding, and is well educated on his class content. Found myself learning the content easily in this class and hardly struggled at all. No complains at all, do not stress this class very easy A or B if you work hard.
Lots of homework and lectures to participate in. Has drop in office hours and wants to help every one. TA'S will give you the answer most of the time. If you participate, its an easy A.
Taken online during covid, all lectures were videos but still felt really engaging. There was office hours available all the time for help or questions, exams were very fair, lots of homework but they were always short and went along with a quiz but its a math class thats normal. Very funny in the lectures, made it easy to pay attention.
Great prof for online business calculus. You can view lectures whenever & they contain one or two easy participation questions that are due a couple days after they're posted. Homework and quizzes to go along with every lecture, but you can use online calculators to make everything super easy. Final exam optional & you get two attempts on all tests
Please do yourself a favor and take him for Business Calculus. If his class is full, consider waiting until the next semester. YES he is that GREAT! His lectures are entertaining and he teaches in a way that you can relate to and understand, no proctorio, but even if there was, he teaches so well you will pass every test if you try.
Overall a great professor. You have 3 tests and a final which is optional. He doesn't use proctorio and provides a practice test/study guide. The quizzes can get annoying, but you have unlimited attempts on them. He is a very likeable guy who is actually somewhat entertaining in this online lecture videos. He is also happy to answer any questions.
Business Calculus is super easy and Professor Lappano is hilarious.
Very funny and helpful professor. Easygoing and chill, weekly homework and quizzes on pearson and 4 exams with one drop. Gives you everything you need to pass including second attempts on the exams. He goes over the most missed exam questions after the first attempt and provides very similar practice exams.
Really nice professor. All homework, quizzes and tests are online. Also has lectures available online in case you don't want to attend in person lectures. The tests have two attempts and use Honorlock. The course has a lot of information and I would recommend going to tutoring or reaching out to TA's for help.
I didn't go to a single class and passed with an A. He has lectures you can watch on canvas. He gives quizzes that you must complete in the SMART Lab for a grade, but you have unlimited attempts, and is basically the homework. If you do the practice tests he posts and are able to solve each question, you will get an A on the exam.
Caring, helpful, exciting
Stephen is such a great guy! Of course this class is not that easy. Attendance isn't mandatory for the lectures, but I do recommend still going. He has such a funny/cool personality and knows what he is talking about. The only downside is that he teachers very fast. He is also very supportive, even helping students out in the required SMART LAB.
Professor Lappano is honestly great. He goes really fast during lectures but everything is available online to go back and watch if needed. There is a LOT of SMARTLab stuff. He is very funny during lectures which helps keep my attention. He is super accessible outside of class and is always willing to help.
Lappano's lectures are fast-paced and intense. It is important to rewatch the video lectures. However, his lectures are able to keep your attention. He really cares about your success and is super accessible outside of class. He is eager to help you and will accommodate you as much as he can. If it weren't for his help I would have failed.
You don't wanna skip his class
Do well on ur 1st 4 exams so you don't have to take the final. Tests have same questions as practice test so be sure to understand how to solve them. All tests/quizzes must be done in SmartLab (+100mins in lab weekly), and he records lectures and lots of videos on how to solve problems in tests/hw. Class is fast paced but hes chill and very helpful
I normally dread lectures but I'd say Steve's was very funny & humorous to say the least. Steve was also always in the Smart Lab ready to help students individually with questions. However, I would say he talks extremely fast and he mutters sometimes so good luck understanding him when it comes to math concepts. A lot of work so don't slack off.
Steve is an amazing professor!! Do well on the 1st 4 exams so you don't have to take the final. The tests have the same questions as practice tests make sure you understand how to solve them. Tests and quizzes have to be completed in SmartLab and you need +100mins in lab weekly. Lectures are not required but he gives good tips in them for the test.
great professor, always looked forwards to his lecture
Steve was a great professor and helped me with anything I needed help with. His lectures are very informative and he can be a joker sometimes. Would definitely recommend taking any class with him.
Professor Lappano is a very solid teacher. Most of the work is done through the SMARTlab and it is easy to pass assignments and tests. Make sure you do the practice problems before exams because they're usually very similar.
Professor Lappano decided three days before the semester to change the course to an asynchronous online class with lecture videos after all the other business calc sections filled. As a result, I am retaining very little information and the overcrowded smart lab makes his office hours and tutoring services inaccessible. Take at a community college.
Lappano is the best math professor I have ever had. His online lectures are entertaining and he is always available in the SMART Lab. Unlimited homework and quiz attempts and multiple attempts on every test. Drops your lowest test score too so if you do well, you don't need to take the final.
The best professor I've had! Explains tough material clearly, offers video lectures to watch anytime, and reviews homework problems in them. I usually struggle with math ( average of C's), but I have an A after 3 exams! He drops the lowest exam, and homework/quizzes allow unlimited attempts. It's the only class I truly enjoy and feel I'm learning.
Steve is the best math professor I have ever had. He is kind and willing to work with you. Participation is important, because his class is online lectures, so if you struggle and need help you will benefit off seeing him in the SmartLab daily. He helps you become a better student and encourages you to become a better version of yourself everyday!
This course is very lecture heavy but Steve is the best teacher for this course. He is engaging with students and is available for help most of the time. He is very lenient when it comes to grades and offers many opportunities to improve your grade.
Steve was an entertaining guy; his lectures were fun and easy to understand. He is always at the smart lab and helps out if you have any questions. The class itself was challenging but if you pay attention to the lectures it is not that hard. Would recommend taking him!
Steve is tough but fair. If lift the weights, you will get strong! While there are no in-person lectures, his online lectures are current and relevant. Attend the Smart lab and go to office hours if you need help. Also, if you do well on the 4 exams you don't have to take the final which is nice.
Great professor
Professor Lappano's MAC2233 class is solid. The coursework is manageable if you stay on top of the practice problems and quizzes in the SMARTlab. unstuck AI was a big help for my study prep too.
Lappano knows his stuff but I find his excessive side chatter during his video lectures to be distracting at times. Great guy and down to earth but could be slightly better teaching.
Professor Steve was a very chill and good professor. If you've taken regular calculus before this class will be easy for you. His lectures are all videos and his quizzes and tests are smart lab. He is very helpful when he's in the lab during office hours. I would definitely take this course again.
I found the videos and lectures super easy to understand and loved that he explained every step. Steve was super funny and helpful. When I couldn't understand a module, I emailed him for answers, he got back to me the next day with answers to what I did wrong and how to do it. 5 exams in the course but lowest 2 are dropped, final is optional.
I took him for business calc and im ending with a 98, and im not the best at math, show up to class and take notes and you will be fine. He has a way of keeping the class entertained while doing lectures. Smart lab attendance is requires 2 hours a week but very do-able. Overall one of the best prof I have had my college career
Dr. Lappano, or Stephen, is an excellent teacher, and has an awesome sense of humor. I took the "Flipped" version of the class which was online, and allowed me to play back lecture videos for studying. Stephen was great at explaining the material, and made it much more understandable than I'm sure a lot of professors would.
Just an awesome professor, and easily accessible outside of class! He also responds quick to emails, and leaves you tension free if a problem occurs, will help sort it out. Super chill and funny prof, cracks jokes alot. Lectures are clear and easy to understand, does practice problems for exams, and teaching reflects the exams! I recommend! :)
Took the hybrid of his business calculus. Was very engaging and numerous in the lectures and has plenty of material online for extra help. Made calculus fun.
Steve is a very good professor, always available if you need help. Breaks down calculus into parts making it easier to understand. I had the flipped with lectures online. SMART Lab is required but not bad. Pretty easy to follow along, watch the lectures, do the hw/practice tests and you'll do well on tests.
What a amazing person i actually love this dude.
Professor Stephen Lappano is the best math teacher I've had. He explains every concept clearly, makes difficult topics easy to understand, and truly cares about his students. His classes are organized, fair, and engaging. He helped me gain real confidence in math.
Professor Lappano was a really good professor for the first time ever he made me enjoy learning math. He really is helpful when you don't understand the material. He made calculus super easy. 100% recommend!
He made "ELON" the password to his extra credit assignment. Enough said.
Funny guy. Class was mandatory for the in person classes, but class was no longer mandatory after he was disappointed with how some students could not answer his questions. So he is passionate.
