The truth is the class is easy trust me all you have to do is read his slides and that's it and come to class b/c if you don't you miss the extra credit that's on the test
kajiura made me like biology. he showed much interest in the topic, and got the whole class addicted to evolution. before college, i just wanted to take minimum requirements for science and be done, but because of him, i hope to learn more about biology. i'll miss his class, and regardless of your interests, this is a must-have professor!
He loves what he teaches, and it's obvious. If you go to class and just pay attention (you don't even have to take notes) you'll do fine, even with minimal outside studying. He made evolution interesting and the lectures weren't boring. Nice guy and understand via office hours and/or e-mail. Doesn't like lazy students who don't go to class.
Great professor, best I have ever had!
Outstanding person! Most socially accepting person I have ever met!
Great professor and great person. He makes the subject interesting and understandable. He is accepting of everyone's opinions and beliefs. This class is a must. The textbook is not really needed. Just go to class, understand, and take good notes. I definetly recommend him.
Take Dr. Kajiura's class! He is great!
Dr. Kajiura is a really good professor. He is super nice and if you dont understand something he will explain it to you. Really made the class interesting. :)
A very witty and thorough professor. He keeps the material interesting, while covering everything you need to know for test, and evolution in general. Extremely helpful and nice, he ensures that you have more than ample ability to get an A in the class. He supplements the material with fun videos. Highly recommended. Writes great LoR's, too!
I really enjoyed his class, I learned so much from him and he is realtively easy. The only problem I had with him was his stance on evolution. I have a huge problem with his stance on evolution and it makes me want to explode into a fit of rage. But he's a good professor.
Great professor and great class! Attendance is not mandatory, but he does show videos in class that will be on the exams. He's exams are not bad if you attend class, study his lectures and review main points from the book. Know the graphs from the lectures!!
Great professor. Assists you with any questions you have regarding the material. Tests are fair and delegates material covered in class and material he says specifically to read in the textbook. Study well and you'll earn the grade, there are no tricks on tests like other professors' exams.
Great professor that genuinely loves what he does. He is ALWAYS willing to help students. However, he is not a "easy" teacher and you will have to put in work to get your A. Do the simutexts (huge part of your grade, study for the exams ahead of time and you will do fine. Highly recommend him.
He is a great professor who is truly passionate about the subject he teaches. Attendance is not mandatory, but a lot of the test questions come directly from lectures. Overall if you do the SIMBIO, pay attention to the lectures, pay attention to the videos, then you should have no problems getting a good grade in the class.
He is an awesome professor who truly keeps the subject interesting and fun. The class is not hard if you pay attention to the lectures and videos. The tests aren't tricky and are based directly from materials presented in class. Not to hard to get a good grade just this is a class that does require effort.
Wow innacurate rating from ratemyprofessor. Hes a 2 @ best. Takes forever to grade exams, trick questions, doesnt care about students, lectures suck, only positive remark is he gives 20 pts buffer through simulabs
Not a fan of this professor, he takes easy topics and somehow finds a way to convey them in a convoluted manner, his tests are designed to trick you, he doesn't give any study guides and leaves you in the dark with what to study. I would study for hours and still get D/C test grades because I never knew what to study. Only pos is the EvoLabs.
Dr. Kajiura is the man! Experts you to critically think and makes lecture really interesting. Phenomenal lecturer and stellar person! People who complained in all honesty tried cramming the night before. IF you stay on top of it the class is a breeze and on top of that he curves final grades! Always greets you with a smile if you need help.
Very cool professor. Super funny and keeps lectures interesting even though they are rather long. Go to class and pay attention. Gives questions on exams for those who came to class. Tests were a little difficult but curves the final grade.
Super nice and very approachable. Go to class and pay attention; ppt are lots of pictures and no words to go with it so if you don't pay attention, you're screwed. Curves the final grade. Not an easy A class, but definitely passable!
One of the best professors at FAU. So inteligent and funny. It is not an easy class and you HAVE to study to get a good grade. Pay attention in class, take notes and put an effort and you should be fine. Curved the final grade, so if you have a B in the class you will end up with an A. Makes you use critical thinking not just plain memorization.
Dr. Kajiura is one of the best professors I have taken at FAU. Presents the material very well and keeps it interesting. Read the textbook only the sections he covers on his ppts. Study hard, understand the concepts and pass. Curves the final grade.
His powerpoints are helpful but to really understand what's going on, you need to go to class. He's entertaining and funny. Final is not cumulative. My class is from 7:10-10PM. He gives us a 10-15 minute break every 45-50 minutes.
Dr Kajiura is great. He is very passionate about Evolution. The tests are very conceptual, make sure you take notes and go through the PW slides and you will be fine. He counts attendance so make sure you show up. Final is not cumulative.
Awesome professor! Pay attention in lecture and go over the slides throughly and you will do well. Tests are not easy, but if you study very well, you will do fine. Very approachable during office hours.
This class was really enjoyable and the tests are straightforward as long as you attend class and understand the PowerPoints well. He also shows a lot of interesting videos/documentaries.
This class is pretty straight forward. Go to class, take notes, and record the lectures. The book is helpful if you miss some concepts in class but you don't need it to do well in this class. His powerpoint are very vague and tests can be tricky so it is important to pay close attention to his lecture. Also, don't slack on the simbio homework.
Professor Kaijura is very passionate about evolution. I recorded his lectures because his PowerPoint slides mainly contained pictures. Everything he goes over in class is reflected in the exam. Make sure you take notes, go to class, do the homework and you do great in his class. His exams are multiple choice and he is a fair grader.
Although the class is three hours long, Professor Kajiura makes the time fly by and very enjoyable. Taking detailed notes during lectures and using the textbook as an additional resource helped me get an A. The course is not difficult at all as long as you put in the effort. He is very fair and I would definitely take another class with him!
This class is going to take a toll on my GPA I am a straight A student taking 5 classes this semester have A's in all of my classes except this one. Theres only 4 tests no EC never got full credit on SimBio labs therefore it dropped my grade even more. I've tried everything possible and can't get higher than a C/D on his exams. Good Luck! I
Hes very passionate about the material and gives great examples. My complaint were his exams. I would study HARD for this class but could never pull above a B on them, except for an A on one. You'd read the question maybe asking "what is an example of genetic drift" you know the answer but all of the answer choices could be right. Curves at the end
Professor Kajiura is an excellent professor and an amazing human being. Although very knowledgeable, he's humble. He understands that each student's situation can be different. He uses PowerPoint pres.; go to class to understand the notes and you'll pass. Final NOT cumulative :). He adjusts grading to students' benefits. Take him, you won't regret.
This class was one of my favorites and even if you are not so interested in the course the professor is very nice and explains things very easily. Defiantly take him you won't regret it!
Evolution was my favorite class at FAU. He makes a difficult subject easy to understand. He did a phenomenal job handling COVID-19 and made the transition online as smooth as possible. The homework can boost your grade. Most information comes straight from his lectures but his PPTs are not super detailed so you have to attend. Take him if you can!
What an amazing guy.. honestly. When every class went online due to COVID, he actually made the lectures more interesting with national discovery videos. He was always accessible in office hours and VERY good at replying to emails. Wrote me a great LOR. Read the book, and you'll be fine. Read exam questions carefully! He words things tricky.
Wonderful professor who is very approachable and genuinely wants to see his students succeed. It is important to pay attention in class as a lot of his test materials comes from his lectures and the things he says in regards to the slides. Overall, a great professor and I would definitely take him again. He is very passionate and you can tell.
I had Dr. Kajiura for evolution, and I definitely learned a lot. He is funny, loves Darwin, and teaches with various materials that provides a strong background to evolution and natural selection that is easy to understand. He is very caring, approachable and understanding, and will always be there for help if you reach out!
Great professor, passionate about the subjects he teaches. Very approachable, truly wants the student to succeed.
Its not an easy A class but he makes the class enjoyable to learn. He is so passionate about the subject and makes it fun and interesting to learn. He is very nice when needing to ask questions and is very helpful. If I could recommend any teacher to someone it would be him!
He does asynchronous meetings, so you watch the lectures on your own. His ppts are mainly pictures so it's important to listen to his lectures and write down EVERYTHING he says. If you do that, you will get a guaranteed A in this class. And his lectures are great! He explains things really well and is clearly passionate. Simutext homework/EC also.
easy class online. 4 homework's and 1 for extra credit.
The actual textbook isnt required but the assigned readings are very helpful plus he asks questions about them during exams. The extra credit portions on the labs really help boost your grade and the extra credit lab is the reason I have an A lol. Highly recommend this professor.
Great class to take online. All lectures are prerecorded and all you have to do it listen and take notes and you're fine. The EC labs are really important to do because they help boost your grade. If you have any trouble with the HW go to the TA's office hours. His lectures are so interesting and you can tell he really enjoys the material.
I chose to take this professor for fall 2021 term because of all the great reviews he had. But everything I am experiencing is the opposite of all these reviews. The labs are no longer extra credit and they are not easy. The tests are SO SO HARD and worded TERRIBLY but while you are listening to him lecture you feel like you understand the stuff.
Do not take this class. I took it because fo good reviews. Every lecture I feel like I know everything and more, but when it comes to the exams I cant get above a C. The questions are worded so poorly. The labs are not extra credit. Save your time & take another class. Now I have to withdraw.
This is the first time I've ever rated a professor. My brother told me to take this class with this professor but it was a mistake. Have got very good grades in college and this is the first class I'm disappointed with. Very, very, very difficult exams where it is obvious he tries to trick you with wording.
I chose to take this class with this professor based on the reviews, but I wish I didn't. So many students are failing this class and it's not supposed to be this difficult. The way he worded his exams is terrible, and there's no more extra credit but he curves a little.
Do not take this Professor. He changed the style of the class. The labs are no longer extra credit, the exams are through lockdown browser and any material he blabs on about will not be helpful. Hes a terrible Professor extremely unorganized and has no idea what hes doing. The class average is a C and 0 extra credit is available. Pick anyone else
I can honestly say this man LOVES Charles Darwin. Textbook and reading is a must in the class. However, the lectures are long and boring if you are not interested in Evolution. Come exam day, he makes the exams more complicated then they should be which is not necessary at all. overall he's pretty cool
The class was not difficult. Take notes during lecture and review them before exams. The exams are gonna be based on your notes and the PowerPoint slides. If you can, take notes on the slides. He doesnt really go into a lot of detail per slide so youll have enough room. Exams are easy as long as u review.
Four exams and five SimUText labs. Little information on his power points, so go to lecture, his explanations & examples will be on the exams! I only read the text book to know more examples of topics discussed in class in case they popped up on exams. Also, you have to read Origin of Species. He's a good professor, take him!
Asks you to read the book to go along with his lectures, but doesn't ask you to read entire chapters, he will tell you which sections he wants you to read so you don't waste your time. All you have to do is pay attention in lecture and read the sections that correspond to that lecture. Amazing professor who is passionate about what he teaches.
Dr. Kajiura was an excellent teacher. His lectures were simple to follow, his discussions were enlightening, and he always took the time to understand students' questions and then answer them. He is also a very nice person to talk to; I got a lot out of office hours meetings with him.
I chose this course based on good reviews but was extremely wrong. I'm not a stickler for extra credit nor do I care for it but extra credit or not guaranteed you'll be in the majority of the class that will fail this class. Tests are poorly worded and grading is nonsensical. If you want a good/passing grade find another professor.
After reading the comments about how easy the Evolution course would be, I decided to take it. But, it was kinda tricky. Dr. Kajiura is very passionate about evolution and his lectures are never boring. His exams on the other hand, yikes. They are very wordy. You feel like you understand the material before each exam but the exams seem foreign.
Evolution is one of the best courses at FAU. Dr. Kajiura embraces diversity & curiosity, while skillfully diving into the science behind the theory. His lectures are rich in knowledge & they are quite enjoyable to listen to--- in fact, they're needed to do well on his exams. Read the textbook, chat with him during office hours, & you'll do fine!
Dr. Kajiura is a great professor. You can tell he is extremely knowledgeable in the subject and he makes his lectures very interesting and engaging for students. The course is straightforward, he doesn't want to trick students. He is a very nice person to talk to and will happily answer questions or concerns. I highly reccomend Dr. Kajiura!
Dr. Kajiura is a great professor and an inspiration to the class. I truly appreciate his passion when teaching every concept and would definitely take another course with him in the future.
He's a material gworl in a material world . That's all you need to know. It really says a lot about resource acquisition and how it is a factor in sexual selection. For summer courses you don't really need the textbook, just study the lectures and you good.
This man lives and breathes evolution and Charles Darwin. He is incredibly passionate, turning an otherwise boring lecture into something enjoyable. Exams are 100% what he covers during lectures and the power points are very vague so make sure to attend lectures, don't even bother buying the textbook unless you want to confuse yourself.
When you take Professor Kajiura's course, you can see how passionate he is. Of all the science courses I took during undergrad, he was the one professor that was able to put the most life and energy into lectures. His class is not a free-be, but it also is not something extremely hard. If you know how to study and take notes, you can do well.
This professor is a great person and super easy to keep up with. I love the videos he uses to better explain his concepts to help his students better grasp the material. The tests on the other hand are pretty rough. They do cover the same material as the book and lectures but they are just worded in a way that is hard to tell the answer.
Kajiura is very inspiring for bio majors. He definitely loves us. He gives 5 easy online labs with one of them being extra cred. Just study his lectures and rewatch his lecture recordings. dont waste ur time studying the textbook!!
Prof Kaijura is very passionate about Evolution. But his exams are SO detailed, remembering random details from the book or powerpoint. It made it very difficult to know what to study when there are questions about names or titles of things. He was helpful during office hours but I would not rec this professor lol. Very stressful
His tests were so detailed, and if you don't have a great memory or good focus on everything he says in class, I would not take him. He's a nice guy, very passionate about Darwin, but he thought it was necessary for his students to know who he married and who voiced a documentary about him (on the tests). Would not take this professor again.
Professor Kajiura is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor who brings energy to each lecture. He is approachable and friendly, making his lectures a true delight to attend. As a student at FAU, I highly recommend enrolling in Evolution with Professor Kajiura - it's a must-take course!
Not my favorite class. This professor is okay whenever he's not throwing shady remarks about his attendance going down (wonder why). His tests are very detail specific to specific things mentioned in the lecture. Be ready to read a few additional supplemental readings. The course is very boring and text heavy. The professor is okay, person-wise.
best professor hands down. Tests can be specific but everything is gone over in the lectures. He gives alot of extra credit so there's no reason you should have less than a B in this course. Don't listen to the bad reviews, they just didn't put in the work. He's always available during office hours and GENUINELY wants you to do good.
Dr. Kajiura was a phenomenal professor, although his class may be tough he does everything he can do to bring your grade up with extra credit and assignments. He is very nice and kind to all of his students. He does a great job at explaining all subject matter and is very flexible with attendance by allowing in person and recorded zoom lectures.
Dr. Kajiura cares about evolution and he enjoys teaching this subject. The extra credit will be your life-saver and best friend, do ALL OF THE LABS!! For the course, his exams were detailed and conceptually based. Memorization is not going to be as helpful as understanding the concepts. Study his PP's and rewatch his lectures many times!!
Dr. Kajiura is an amazing professor! Make sure you listen and take notes during the lecture. There are 4 tests (including the final,) 4 virtual lab homework assignments, and 2 extra credit opportunities. He explains what he wants you to know for the tests. He also offers extra credit, which is a MUST, and helps you in the long run.
Very straightforward class, the powerpoints have almost everything you need. The only addition thing is to read darwins books but spark notes gives more than enough detail. He also have homework which is very cake and he gives so much extra credit .
100% take this professor. He wants you to succeed, his lectures are easy to follow along. His tests are based off the slides and studying is very doable.
He is seriously the best professor I've ever had. The way Dr. Kaijura lectures is a perfect pace, he is well spoken and detail oriented. The tests are all content that has been covered and I learned a lot. Highly recommend!
amazing professor. lectures were very detailed and you can tell he actually cares. The tests aren't too hard as long as you watch the lectures. The online hw/labs are very easy and you can get a lot of extra credit from them. The hw has 50-80 questions but only 10 are graded. if you do all you get ec. one single assignment brought me up 7%.
don't take this class with him
Don't take this class! He seems like a good guy but the class is not it at all. Doesn't record lectures so if you miss class you're on your own. Only graded by a few labs and test. Tells you something is gonna be on the test and it's not. You have to read 2 chapters for each test. No study guide. Just don't take it. Half the class is failing
I would not recommend this professor! Tests have tricky questions!
Worst professor I've had. I maintained a 4.0 for a long tome yet this class I struggled to pass. The TA was also AWFUL, very passive aggressive and unhelpful. Says to study the powerpoint yet doesn't mention the textbook is mandatory. Test questions make no sense despite reading the text and reviewing the powerpoint. would NOT recommend.
This class is mostly exams. He gives some extra credit, but since grades are all tests, it doesn't help much. The content isn't hard, but the way he words questions is super tricky. No practice questions, lectures aren't posted, just PowerPoints with pictures. He doesn't curve. Lots of people dropped.
His test questions can be tricky, but this class is not difficult. Go to the lectures, take notes, and make your own flash cards/whiteboard. He gives 6% extra credit as well. If you put in the bare minimum effort you will be fine. It felt like the people who did bad and dropped, did not go to class and would start studying the night before.
Went to every single lecture and studied a lot, but I still struggled because we never know what he's going to ask. The content isn't hard, but his questions are worded so tricky. No practice problems, lectures aren't posted. There's no curve, so it's really tough.
tried super hard but it never felt enough because we had no idea what'd be on the tests. The PowerPoints were mostly pictures, but the exams asked super specific things. Since the grade is all exams, it's hard to keep up. It's evolution, not a class that should be this hard.
I'm used to classes that are well structured, where the professor gives a study guide or clear topics to review. In this class, he could ask anything from the 100+ slides, and there's no real direction. It makes studying stressful because you never know what will show up on the exams.
I took this class because the reviews looked good, but honestly it ended up being way harder than my actual core classes. The tests are super specific, the slides don't help much, and there's no clear idea of what to study.
Wouldn't recommend
This professor was very tough. It was frustrating as I studied for a week before each exam and still saw specific information on the exams that were not given in the PowerPoint's or lectures, especially since exams and a few online lab assignments are the only grades for this class.
The class content isn't hard, but the tests are tough because the answer choices are so similar. He doesn't post lectures, so if you miss even one class you fall behind, yet attendance isn't graded. It's super frustrating and really doesn't make sense.
If you have a hard time focusing, do NOT take this class. Even when you go to lecture, it's hard to remember everything, and he doesn't post recordings. He expects you to know every word he said, so if you miss anything or aren't 100% focused the whole time, you're not gonna do well.
It really isn't that bad. You just need to write down EVERYTHING he says in class in your notes, or at least record the lecture yourself. I didn't read the book the entire semester, I just went to class, took good notes, made quizlets, and still got an A because the tests are based on things he says in class. People leaving 1 didn't go to class.
I studied day before/morning of for this course since I took this as an easier bio elective; still passed with an A. Take note of everything in the slides and fill in gaps via textbook. He tells you everything you need to know. If you don't go to lecture, just fill in what you don't know via textbook. Overall, cool shark dude.
I would not recommend this professor. The class is mainly graded on the test, and there are specific information on the test that's not given in the PowerPoints or lectures.
