he doesn't write his own exams or take his own notes but expects students to put a lot of effort into his course. Painfully boring
really easy course to pass, and he is super hot
Although the note taking and talking did make my mind wander to other more interesting things I did find Steve to be genuine, easy to talk to and a good teacher.. I just think he could spice up the classes a little better.

WORST TEACHER EVER!!! His tests have nothing to do with the course material, and his notes are exactly from the book. He didn't teach me a thing, and made me hate sociology... which i had previously liked. Do NOT EVER EVER EVER TAKE HIM!!!
Nice guy, but a little boring. Multiple choice tests are easy, but he marks essays hard! Would take another course from him.
Wonderful person, and very easy to approach. Is considerate and kind. Covered course material well. Would definately take another course from him.

How boring can you go? Talks forever, and for every class so far he has kept us in class 15 minutes after the session was supposed to be over, just so he could keep blabbering on. Has a tendency to go off topic constantly. Bleah.
Man the people on here that are saying good things about this guy are nutz!!! He talks ALL CLASS, usally end up stayin 10 minz after....test are really really hard, don't understand one word he says, would never take another class with him

He is a very boring instructor. His notes follow the book exactly. He uses huge words all the time to the point you can not understand what he is teaching and he rarely stays on topic. I would not take another class with him. He is a nice guy though.

I agree with all the negative comments todate. Boring, unclear, not helpful and reaches to far out of course content when marking. Its not english. He seems to be the only teacher that had difficulty following my writing.

He's nice enough but not the best teacher. His lectures are muddled and he says uhhh and you know, and ummm way too much. Basically he's a little hard to follow, but if you read the text you'll have no problems. Not a bad marker.

one of the most confusing profs i've ever had. the things he talks about in class hav absolutely nothing to do with the text book.
DO NOT buy the text, he doesn't use it, just study his notes from class and you can do alright on his all TRUE/FALSE or multiple choice exams.
He is the most confusing prof ever. I think it would be some much better if he didnt switch from one topic to the next.
HORRIBLE!!!!! He just stood up there and read from the text, word for word. Total waist of time, and if you decide you don't want to go, you won't miss anything
If you like sentences that go on for two minutesg(sure seem like that long) then he's your man. Take him if you want 5 minute explanations for a simple question and get more confused after hearing the answer. His lectures are a summary of the text, the sprinkled boringness is extra. Avoid him.
good teaching style, good note lay out...drags on a concept, however, maybe that is effective for some people

i dont kno wat ppl are talking about when they say this guy didnt use the text book..cuz he totally did..his class notes,the text book and his tests are all the exact same stuff..every time..easy marker,very lenient..however he does have looong explanations for questions u might ask..so be prepared

one of the worst teacher, I have ever had. Too long of an explanation. Bring a pillow and blanket before class. As well as a dozen of pens, and relax your fingers after the semester is over. A PIECE OF ADVICE, DO NOT EVER TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU ARE NOT DESPERATE!

steve can be a little hard to listen to since he tends to go all over the place with his explanations but he is a nice guy. marks easy and fair. two exmas but he gives the questions before hand, and group presentations.
I liked the format of his class. Not the most dynamic speaker, but does know his stuff. A truly nice- real nice -person. Not an easy mrker, but willing to discuss marks and papers. I still recommend him and his class.
Steve is a nice guy, but his style is not really the best. His lecturing is okay, too many written assignments, but there is no paper to do. Makes participation worth a lot of marks.

He is such a nice teacher! I can't believe at some of the things people are writing. Hello, let's be adults here. Not the easiest of markers, but he is so knowledgeable. Take the time to learn from him and try. Study and you'll ace the exams.
Steve rocked my world!!! he is so nice and generally cares about his students. He may be a little boring in his lectures but who wouldnt be with what he had to work with. I think steve is an awesome guy.
Steve is such a nice instructor. His style is so easy to understand. I would totally recommend taking a course with him because he is helpful, approachable, fair, and kind. Overall, he is an awesome instructor.
The concepts in a sociology class can't be systematized the way some people would like - it requires conceptual and philosophical thought. Mainprize is good at this not so good at systematized teaching. If you need someone to spoonfeed you this is not the prof. for you if you like to be guided but have freedom to develop he's great.
How could u complain bout steve? He's a sweet,intelligent,and very nice guy. He always was willing to stay behind to answer my questions. Everyone has different teaching styles. I really enjoyed his lectures. I found this class very interesting. If you didnt find this class interesting, then u probably shouldnt take any sociology courses. ; )
I think Steve is a very fair teacher. He may not be the more clear and understood at times, but he means well and if you participate you will do fine. I really enjoy his classes, which is why I've taken any course with him that I could. He likes suck ups and keeners!
Okay lecture time he has huge sweat patches and every sceond word is awe or umm!!! Very hard to keep up and stay at attention, try not to fall asleep. I'd say an easy marker, and he will always answer your questions even if he has to stay after class. Just show up, write notes, his tests are mainly from lecture try to pay attn,it can be hard tho!
Very hard essay marker, and picks on small mistakes. Tell you the truth, from the beginig to the end of his class, I didn't learn anything eventhough he tries very hard to teach. I highly recomand to take somebody else for Sociology unless you have no other options.
First of all, He is a very friendly professor. Down to Earth. The problem is that his lectures are really all over the place. Goes to A then B, A again then C, then B, then A again. If you ask questions, and do the participation papers. The class will be easy. Half my class skipped always.

He is a really nice guy, encourages thought and discussion from the class. Be ready to concentrate, he speaks constantly for 2 hours on a deep sociological level, if you miss anything you can become lost. He does explain things well though. His exams are fair, gives you the questions beforehand.
Exams are easy if you read the text. Lectures are so boring and straight from the text. Marks paper hard. He is helpful and a nice guy, but don't expect an exciting class.

REALLY boring lectures all out of the text, more than half of my class skipped...His midterm exam was long and the questions were quite repetitive, wasn't too hard though. One good thing about this prof is he puts his lecture notes on the web.

oh my goodness,where do i start?This is probably the worst teacher I have ever had in my whole entire lifetime attending school. He is VERY boring and can be rude at times and is very unclear about anything he says.He uses UMM or UHH in LITERALLY every sentence.He is not understanding at all and his grading is so unfair and it sucks.NEVER take him
His notes are more helpful than the textbook was, but he is very very boring. I don't think he ever marked the term paper himself, and I did really poorly on it!! The midterm and final seemed hard but I ended up getting a B- in the course somehow.
this teacher speaks in MONO-TONE! dont go to his classes, all his notes come out directly from his text, lectures are useless, bring nailpolish and start painting ur nails, thats all i did. go home read the text, come back and write the test. tests are easy just review and study terms. In my class, no one showed up like EVER or left half way!
He's boring, but he does cover a lot in each class. Skip and you'll miss half a chapter. Be thorough on your participation/discussion sheets, just bring up a lot of points and you'll get a high mark. Get a couple people to edit your essay before you hand it in. He was a tough marker for that. Otherwise, all MC tests and straight forward.

Class material was straight from the text! I dont even know if he wrote the notes, seems as if they came directly out of the text! You have to be in class to hand in your participation assignment, but really no one showed up, or left part way through the class. Overall, this class was one of the worst classes I have had.

Not a bad prof at all. Standard MC tests/paper. Good powerpoint notes. Boring voice/lectures- not interactive- just the way I like'em. Some group work involving videos in class but not shabby. Recommended.
The most boring teacher i've had in my whole entire school life. i honestly didn't do anything in his class but text my friends or eat and sleep. he's very uninteractive, his thoughts are hard to follow, and the notes are STRAIGHT from the textbook. The starting of the semester the class was full, then very quickly it came down to 8 people in class
Class is really easy, but really boring too. Sorta feels like you could learn the mat. on your own since he just teaches direct from the textbook. People just walk out. Doesn't learn names, just calls us 'students'. Ehn. Not hard or anything, but not particularly interesting, either.
The most boring teacher EVER! and he stares at certain people all the time in class. All slides are available online after class. Only thing is participation is 35% of your mark. So if you skip on days he gives assignments you have a chance of failing. But if you can bare to attend every class then an easy A. I would not recommend him!

Worst professor I have ever had. Sure, classes are easy, powerpoint is straight from the text, but Mainprize is a liar, and a tough marker when it comes to the paper(if you can call it that.) A marker writes comments, and he provides an arbitrary grade without reading. Majority of class failed. If you like your JPA, STAY AWAY.
I don't understand why everyone is being so damn harsh on Stevie. Yeah , he is lectures are boring, but I didn't find HIM boring. He tried to be funny, which was cute. HE DOESN'T MARK THE PAPERS PEOPLE! Learning Center people do ! And the tests are BEYOND EASY ! MULTIPLE CHOICE ! STRAIGHT FROM THE TEXT . You don't even need the text. I love STEVIE!

This is an easy A class if you show up and just do the work. Participation 35%(some assignments that you get a tick mark for, some are written fairly simple!) tests 40% (as long as you read the text book you should do fairly well) essay 25% learning center marks
I do admit that he can bore the class, but what I find very interesting about Prof Mainprize is that he is very passionate about what he is teaching. He is not a bad teacher; all you have to do is show up to class having your textbook material read and be attentive. He isn't a horrible teacher; he tries to joke around to keep the class entertained.

Seems to beat around the bush quite a bit before getting to a single point. Granted that it's good to explain any point thoroughly, he tends to lose half the class the 10th time around. Tends to follow points straight out of the textbook, so lectures aren't too important as long as you read the textbook.
The worst prof I have ever encountered. Easy as heck class, but he grades written work very arbitrarily and can be very arrogant. VERY BORING CLASSES. He spends hours just repeating the same points from power points prepared by the manufactures. On the plus side, you don't need to do readings really and can just show up and pass.

This class is surprisingly easy. All of his slides are taken almost directly from the textbook, so if you read that you're golden. Horribly boring, so you could always study for another subject or read the textbook while in class. Participation is 25% of the mark, so show up. Tests are 50-MC questions and easy, as long as you spend an hour reading
Took this a while back, but honestly his classes were so boring. All he does is read off the powerpoint and doesn't engage at all. His criteria for his essay was ridiculous to follow. BUT he is really interested in his subject and if you read the text and come to class you will pass.
Although his lectures are very boring, you will do very well on the tests if you read the textbook. Participation marks are important too, you never know when he will get you to sign the attendance sheet, so just show up. He knows his stuff though.

I have never fallen asleep in class but that changed when I took his class. Found myself fighting to keep my eyes open during his lectures. Lectures are super dull and boring, sometimes he talks about one thing for 20 minutes. Read the text and you'll be fine for tests.
The Lectures are straight from the text book. No one listens to him and everyone talks over him. I usually get very good grades in my other courses except for this one. His questions on tests are ambiguous and he explains things a million times which actually just makes everyone more lost. He thinks a B is a high mark : not happy

The textbook on the other hand is way more clear than him, so get ready to teach yourself. no final though but do attend class as it counts toward 25% of your grade even if its to catch up on your sleep.

Mr. Mainprize follows the typical old way of teaching and that is through power point notes and lectures. The class to me was difficult but that was partially due to my own faults. The tests are tough and the term paper is difficult as well too. The subject itself did not interest me however Mainprize did do a overall good job in being a good prof
If 25% of our grade wasn't riding on showing up the class, no one would ever go. His lectures are long, montone and straight from the textbook - needed fro tests, as several questions are directly taken from the chapters assigned. Beware of biweekly "quizzes" - they are way harder then he makes them out to be. class average for tests was 60%.
He is so boring, and I'm not even being dramatic. Monotone, no class involvement, reads directly off of his slides. Tough marker on the essay which is an assigned topic. Bi-weekly tests, seem easy but they're not. Has surprise participation marks in the second half of classes randomly. He sucked the fun out of this class definitely.

Introductory class with language like it's your 4th year. You can't understand him so you have to read the textbook. First day of class gives an 8 page paper due in 6 weeks on a theory he hasn't taught yet. Boring lectures.

Had to leave the class 30-20 minutes early every class where he would give out a participation paper near the last 5 minutes. This totally ruined my experience in that class and demolished my grade the thing was i wasn't aware of this until a 3rd of the ways though the symester. Boring and non informative of what's really needed out of you to pass.

Had this prof in 2016/2017. Monotone very boring talks for the whole three hours. Dose not care for his students. He didn't remember my name. I went to write my make-up midterm. He accidentally gave me the final exam on 6 chapters we haven't reviewed. I told him this and he was so confused he thought I was cheating by knowing what's on the exam. Ha
