He is tough. Tests are tricky multiple choice he is willing to help some though.
Really hard! Much too critical on papers! I would stay away from this one!
Tests are way too difficult for the material covered in the class.
demanding but you may learn something
Very difficult and unorganized. Test do not pertain to learned material. Avoid
Lectures are o.k. but tests are too difficult -expectations are unrealistic
His way or no way. Try to avoid him. Very unorganized
Unfair. Watch out for papers, they are graded awfully. Not flexible. Avoid.
Work is not hard, but he is. Strange guy.
I will never take another class that he teaches again.
Don't Take this class, I worked hard and asked for his help but really would not
Challenging, but if you do well in his class, you will do well in the real world
Anything libelous will be deleted, so, NO COMMENT.
Tests only over book (which he does not lecture on). Lots of reading & h-work.
He made me feel like an idiot. I wish he wasn't at this university.
Very critical on Papers!! He thinks were all uneducated misfits!! Stay away!!
He is challenging, but you will learn a lot in the class. He is also very fair.
Tests are very demanding, purely from the book all memorization.
Very degrading and demeaning of students. Very poor teacher. Avoid at all cost
Test are only from book, and he is unorganized and hard to follow
What?! he still teaches here! Good God!
Not very good. Don't recommend
he may be tough, but he puts you on the right track for success
Tests come from the book - Grades weird!
Nice guy, tough class, test right from book, lectures are off-base.
memorize the book and you'l ace the class,
avoid this teacher. worst ever. his tests are unreal. do not take this class
Study long hours for tests but they're predictible and coursework is light
not organized, tries to cover too much, not current, ridiculuous homework expect
3hrs of homework/1hr. of class, then he only looks at 20%of it, ****!
his classes made me long for a bear trap on my leg
I agree, a great man. Challenging...but his lectures are excellent.
great prof, makes you think about things. although tests are rote memorization
There is no constant to his tests, he changes the format for each one
His tests are a joke--memorize everything
DO NOT take his classes. Lectures don't make any sense.Tests are very hard
Teaches practical skills. Take this class if you are serious about learning.
Keeps class interesting, but favors many students and is sometimes borning
tons of homework, must memorize everything for grueling tests
tough class and tests are hard (memorize everything), but you really learn the stuff and skills that are helpful, i liked him!
The guy is a jerk. Very rude and demeaning to students. Tests are strictly memorization. Worst teacher at gvsu.
Terrible Lecture skills (85% of test basis), stutters and jumps from one thought to another with no common thread of logic. Last image of management is from 1972, and is convinced nothing has changed. Impossible to get better than an 85% on homework.
Bad teacher, makes tests impossible and expects you to know everything. Avoid!!!!
very tough tests- memorize everything. very interested in student input and very helpful. gives great real-life applications. do not take him if you do not want to work hard for your grade. attendance and participation count big time.
He does a good job of relating his own experience to the topics and encouraging discussion. I didn't think his tests were as bad as everyone is saying. They are on material straight out of the book and you can defend your 'wrong' answers for points.
This prof taught me how to study. I got a B in his class, but after that I got all A's. Study hard for the tests, especially the first one. memorize everything.
Tests are very hard. Tests are all memorization, not learning. Talks very fast, hard to follow, and hard to take notes. Overall this class is a waste of time. Not to mention this guy doesn't seem to want to help people out.
Tests are hard, need to study. He has a great amount of experience and is very helpful. I enjoyed his class.
Not only difficult, but why lecture when your tests are mostly over 150 definitions that must be memorized, grading doesn't make sense, and he enjoys failing students, not willing to change his ways...Get out of this class.
horrible. not a nice guy. likes to fail students.
This guy is a joke. Typical management type, requires "excellance" but can't even deliver a decent and logical explanation of studies that he has done. Bottom line: he's a waste of time and space.
Very demanding teacher, but definitely effective in teaching. Is fair and helps students whenever necessary. Study for tests or you will fail.
Good Prof. Class is enjoyable, but tests are hard, especially the 1st one. Teaches well, has great examples for the material.
Don't take it!!!!
BOOOOOOOOOOOO. Please don't take, trust what everyone else is saying on here because this guy is horrible/incoherent.
It was a tough class, but the trick is to memorize the handouts and the stuff he posts on blackboard. Tends to discuss a lot of employment law. Try to do well on the assignments because they can help your grade in the end.
This is a hard class. Plan to spend every free min. memorizing definitions. Lecture is very interesting, group project is great and can help your grade. However, I can not stress how difficult his tests are. Class might be easier if taken during Fall
Worst prof I've had at GV. Extremely arrogant and can't speak a coherent sentence to save his life. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS MAN.
This Professr is absolutely horrible. This teacher makes you write a lot of papers and grades them like he is the ultimate board of review. So even if you are a good paper writer plan on getting C's. He is contradictory, he says that you can use any style of formating then downgrades you.
I don't know why people say he's a bad prof. Yes, he is a difficult grader, but he lets you do extra credit and re-writes. He's very leniant & understanding if you need to miss more classes than allowed. Very intelligent and passionate about equal rights. I think he's great & I would take him again
Class is really not hard at all. Up front it seems like a lot of papers, but in the end he dropped a few, didn't really have tests, doesn't make you take any notes. Lots of discussion, wants to make you think. Got a good grade without too much effort, but class was worth the time.
I had one complaint about this class... an inbox memo activity takes up 2/3 of the class and is worth only 17% of your grade. Spends only 1 day a week lecturing material that you are graded on. Class thought exams were difficult, but if you put in the time, you will do well. Not a fan of the class.
This class was my most writing intensive ever. As it was an SWS class. I swear to god, he'd assign a paper at the end of every class period over some articles that were not available on reserve and we had to make copies ourselves. Usually in the realm of 50 pages. He's a tough grader, but he lets you re-do them.
this man is awful. he is so full of himself and is unclear with what he wants. the stupid memo assignments take up so much time. this old man needs to retire.
Looks like and is the nutty professor. He's disorganized, subjectively highly inconsistent, and doesn't add value. Very expensive class for learning that yes, people of color have been treated unfairly, and yes, do what you can to right the wrongs. This was not SWS but wrote in excess of 15,000 words in more than 9 papers.
He is very helpful if you have problems, he noticed I had a cold and let me take the test later. Very nice man.
AVOID. Plain and Simple.
This HR class was boring. I have had this crazy New Yorker before, so I knew what I was getting myself into. He is disorganized and forgetful. His lectures jump around and are inconsistent. He's crazy! His exams are so hard, good luck if you ever have to take this man, you'll need it!
He's a super nice guy and class is usually pretty interesting. Lectures are a little bit crazy but he always gets his point across and I feel like I've got more out of his class than any other this semester. He really works on analyzing skills and tells you how it really is in the workplace. I really recoommend taking this class with him.
This is one of the best class' offered at GVSU and he turns into one of the worst. He is disorganized, forgetful and a terrible professor. Don't reccommend taking this class under him.
Horrible, Horrible lectures. This guy's subjectivity is about as effective as my 2-yr. old's...I'd steer clear of Margulis!
Very interesting and knowledgeable professor. I got a lot out of this class about how the "real world" works. Supposedly has a reputation for being difficult, but if you actually read the book and study you'll do fine. The only bad thing is the memo project, which involves a 5-page paper a week, graded solely on whether it's long enough.
This professor is not an asset to GVSU. His lectures are disorganized, he doesn't follow the handouts, and doesn't have a straight answer for anything. You'd think you could BS answers on exams, but he deducts points for that! He told me I should put my efforts elsewhere because I wasn't going to get a good grade. Encouraging, thanks! Avoid him!!
Do the math. 40 students. 1 *one* made an A. That's Margulis.
Horrible professor. I would recommend everyone to stay as far away as possible.

Horrible! Avoid. Hopefully management of diversity is not still used to kill two classes for the price of one. It's worth it to not have to sit through Margulis' class!!!
Worst professor in my 5 years at gvsu. AVOID HIM. If there is any professor that cares less, its him. Absolutely the worst professor at GVSU, he should be removed.
This guy is an idiot. Take you're typical egotistical colloge professor and multiply it. Even if you can figure out what this****is saying it won't help, I don't think he even has a clue what's coming out of his mouth. Oh, and the papers graded solely on length? Yeah, good idea, cause that's how the real world works....
Not an easy class no matter who you have. In-Box Exercise is a pain, but it can be helpful. He does grade on length, which is stupid. Over all I thought the class was hard, but I did learn quite a bit in it. His exams are hard, one exam - two separate parts over two days, cut us some slack.
If you can help it, don't take him at all. There are plenty of other profs that will actually teach you something about management. Memo assignment is stupid- his class should be SWS with all that writing we had to do for minute points!
Yes this class is hard- so if you don't want to work for your grade then stay away. However, he is a great professor who really knows what he's talking about. He offers great examples and his class truly helps prepare you for a career in business.
As long as you know the information on the study guides and handouts you will get a good grades on the tests. He may seem a little harsh the first week but as you go through the semester you find out he is really nice. The in-box memos can be hard but if you take a few hours on them and watch your mechanics you should do well. Will take him again.
He's Terrible! Tests are totally out there. The tests cover the book, but each tests covers 6 to 7 chapters and he doesn't give you a study guide. Class time is reserved for lecture (which has NOTHING to do with the book) and in box memos. The inbox memos are pretty stupid as well. They make you think, sure, but found them pointless. Stay away!
If you participate in class, come to class, and get involved it's a very simple class. The only thing bringing me down is his exams but if you study hard you will get a good grade. The in-box memo's are fairly easy after you figure out how he grades. Got an 86, 95, and then 100 on them so not too bad really. Take him if you want to learn.
He doesn't verbalize expectations. He assumes students know about management before we even start the class. His in-box exercises are pointless. I didn't learn anything from them... choose a better teacher!
The first day of class I wasn't sure what to expect, but he ended up being a great professor. He is actually very understanding, and if you study for his tests you'll do well. His grading is extremely fair, and if you put the time and effort into the class, you'll do well.
tests are not very hard as long as you read the book and he gives you options of what problems to do the the tests...in box memos are pointless and participation is worth too much
He's entertaining without a question and has a lot of history with HR, but when it comes to grading exams he's the worst. Wouldn't recommend if you're looking to boost your grade up.
His tests can be hard, but he gives LOTS of options - you have to answer a certain amt of points that you choose. He's funny and entertaining, but sometimes can be taken the wrong way. Overall, I think he was a great professor and had a great experience with this class.
Margulis is the worst professor I've experienced at Grand Valley. He encourages student participation and is rude/interrupts when they talk and doesn't hear what they have to say. For the sake of your sanity/education, just avoid him.
Avoid if possible. Not only will this man do his best to make your life miserable, he'll do his best to make you feel stupid while doing it. Unreasonable expectations and he will express his disgust when you fall short. Class was one group project split into 4 parts. The only was I survived was by having a good group! Pray you get one too.
Although intimidating at first, if your a management major, I highly advise to take any of his classes. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. He makes the classroom lectures based on real life experiences. Only problem was a quiz every week got tiring.
Probably the worst professor I've ever had. Lecture tests are based off miniscule information that he has on his handouts, and you have to answer the question exactly how it is on the handout to receive credit. For his chapter tests, if the answer isn't in the book, it's wrong even if it's right. It's not about what we know, but what the book said.
This is two classes in one, one standard and one amazing. First there's the normal stuff. Learn things in lectures, show you learned them. Okay. The second part is case studies, which was a student presentation followed by a sort of moderated debate; Extremely engaging, educational, and generally awesome. I wish more professors would do that!
