Very interesting teacher, but his tests were extremely hard.
Made Historiogrophy into an enjoyable topic that could be understood. Take him!
Made a boring subject interesting, really cares about students
Had him for MO Hist. Really enjoyed the class. He pushed us hard academically the course is tough but if you read the text and study your notes you will get an A. Very approachable
This class was an incredibly unpleasant experience and the tests were ridiculous. Unwilling to work with students when extenuating circumstances arose... Don't take him unless you want to pay the university for nap time.
His tests are impossible, and test grades are the only grade you get in the class. You don't get any points for coming to class, all he does is lecture the entire 50mins. Horrible experience with him, do not take.
Last 2 people are babies. His tests weren't hard at all if you listened to his lectures and studied the list of terms he gives out. I thought his lectures were interesting... I would recommend him.
Half of his tests are based on the reading, and he's not kidding when he says you won't pass if you don't read. He gives you a study sheet with all the stuff to study from the reading, and if you do that, you'll have no problem with the tests.
He was a good person and very interested but the test were hard. He tried to cover too much information on each test. Should have maybe had more test instead of trying to cover 4 chapter with only 40 questions.
Great teacher. Lecture is interesting and he keeps you on track. Tests were not the easiest but not horrible. Do what he asks and you will pass. Read Read Read
This is an interesting class and it's not difficult to get an A as long as you keep up with the reading and listen to the lectures.
He is a good teacher. Is willing to help you get an A. Make sure you take good lecture notes and do the study guide. Its pretty easy.
His class was very hard, but sometimes interesting if you listened. You have to take alot of notes. And ALWAYS study hard.
This is a great teacher if you hate politics. Very interesting. Very knowledgable. Tests are easy if you study!!!! He gives a book study guide for the readings and the rest is over lecture. Funny guy too...take this class. Moderate difficulty.
This guy kept me interested throughout each class. He knows what he's talking about. His tests are kind of tuff, but passable. However, the worst part is that the tests are really jumbled together. I had to study for 3 tests on finals week.
He's one of the best teachers I've had at this school. Very liberal politics, but interesting. He has a great knowledge of labor history, and you will be fascinated. His lectures made me want to come to class.
this class is definitely an easy b. i didn't do much work. no attendance so just get the notes from someone else in class. he gives reading assignments but dont do them. before each test he hands out a study guide so just know all of the words on the guide. cool guy
Dr Mcintyre is a good teacher. His lectures make you want to come to class. Test are a breeze if you study the guide he gives you. Essay questions are comprehensive, so know the answers to those. This guy is funny to listen to and probably the smartest person I know.
Had a lisp so was hard to understand. jumped from topic to topic on discussion, but he was a decent teacher
He is a very good teacher. He makes class pretty interesting and his lectures are really fun. Tests are very easy if you listen in class and do the study guide. Tip-write down what he says-not what his outlines says.
seems alright. effective teacher. sometimes he makes it seem like he knows a lot about stuff he KNOWS NOTHING about. jumps around a lot in lecture. would not help me outside of class
He gives lectures from a very liberal point of view. I am a conservative and really liked hearing from his side. His class should be called history of labor and Civil Rights because that is what he emphasizes. Easy A, if you pay attention and read the weekly chapter assignments.
I didn't think this class was a breeze at all. His lectures are all over the place and his quizes seemed kind of tricky. We didn't recieve any study guides for any tests. Not a fun class. Maybe it's just me, but I find it struggling. (Nice guy, just not someone who I understood well)
Very very helpful...couldn't have asked for a better teacher!
He was an okay teacher. You have to do A LOT of reading. He gives a quiz after the end of each chapter of the book, so you have a quiz about once a week, but they aren't bad. Other than that you have two writing assignments and a mid-term and final. It's not that bad of a class. If you go to every class, you'll do fine.
I wasn't all that interested in the class cause i already failed it once, but he made me want to learn more. Kinda funny, more just honest. Helped me out when i came to him with a question during his ofice hours. He's a really great teacher honestly.
I loathe this class! Its very boring, and Dr. McIntyre just seemed to irritate me from day 1. I didn't find the class interesting or helpful, and can't say I've learned anything from it. The projects are easy, but the quizzes, midterm, and final are tricky.
He changed the format of his class for this sem.You read a chapt. from the book and take a hard 10 pt. quiz over it(lowest 3 dropped)=20% of your grade. You read The Jungle and Nickel & Dimed which ea. has a paper and quiz=20% of your grade on ea.Then a mid-term and final @ 20% ea.The class was hard and you have to study a lot for a B. Good luck!
Here's the formula for an "A" with Stevo: Read everything he assigns. Take decent notes. Attend atlest 2 of 3 classes a week. Go to review session before each test.
Here's the formula for an "A" with Stevo: Read everything he assigns. Take decent notes. Attend atlest 2 of 3 classes a week. Go to review session before each test.
I hate history but I didnt mind this class and i got an A! It sucks that you have to read every chapter in the book but it will really help you get a good grade in the class! This class really isnt that bad! Go to the reviews for the mid term and final and he will go over all the info you might have missed and you wont really have to study much
Real nice guy, very enthusiastic. Goes above & beyond the call with study sessions outside of the regular class for the midterm and final. Typical liberal slant on social issues, but it doesn't hurt if you disagree. Has 10 pt. m/c tests for each chapter--very easy to get an A if you read the text.
He may be the nicest guy ever! His quizes are out of the book and worth 10 points. Test questions are taken from the notes. Go to his test review sessions and you will do great. Take him!!
He isn't a bad teacher and he obviously likes what he teaches. If you are willing to read and put a little effort into it, it's not too hard. I got a C, but I didn't really try at all.
He makes the class fun and brings up real life examples. He is also very helpful and is willing to talk and explain general university guestions. I recommend taking him for any class that he teaches.
There is lots of reading in this class, especially considering the fact that its a 100 level course. If you do the reading you will get a good grade though. Thats really all there is to it. Read and attend study sessions and you're good. i have a solid B and I miss class a lot...LOL
he's a very nice guy.tried to make the class interesting.he gives 10 point (10 question) quiz over every chapter. you can't pass them unless you Actually read the 40 page chapter.they pretty much blow. mid term and final are pretty easy bc they are over lecture and he gives a seperate 3 hour review.we read 2 books and write 1 essay comparing them.
Fun class and very interesting. We had to read two small books and watched a few videos. The tests weren't too bad if you read and paid attention to the lectures. The only paper was a 10-12 page paper but it wasn't as bad as it sounds.
Dr. McIntyre is great. He explains things very well and uses real-life examples to make it easier to understand. He knows what he's talking about. You have to read A LOT in order to pass the weekly quizzes. But he drops the lowest 2 quiz scores. Papers are easy, the GA grades them so i got an A on it. I highly recommend him!!
Dr. McIntyre is a great techer. He is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about history. Unfortunately, he is pretty biased as far as the working class and unions, etc... I am glad I took his class and I learned A LOT! Take him if you can.
He is very nice and will help you in anyway he can. Make sure you study for all the quizzes because the are the majority of your entire grade. Tests are easy if you take good notes.
I am currently taking him this semester and he has GAs for the first time and decided to make all of our tests essay (because he doesnt have to grade them himself) The tests are fairly easy, except for the fact he wants entirely to much writing for a 50 min class. 3 ID questions that need to be at least 1/2 a page and a well developed essay that ne
I'm pretty knowledgeable about history, and McIntyre teaches with such an incredible bias, some of it borders on untruthfulness. I got nothing out of the lecture sessions, and you have to repeat back exactly his opinions during the tests. However, his GA Annie is wonderful and more than a little adorable. I always want to give her a hug.
only talked about unions and strikes throughout all of the class.
I'll be a senior in the Fall, and this is (outside of Dr. Denton's production class)the most annoying class I have ever had. He trys to be some life changing professor for all the poor freshman who ended up in his class, by telling them college is hard and essay tests happen... 1st and Only for me... we had 50 min. to write the recommended 4.5 page
Focused almost entirely on labors and unions. Skipped over wars, etc. Tests were extremely long with no multiple choice and all essay. Nice enough guy but I don't think he knew even one person's name in the class. Were it not for the GA, Mark Dalton, I would not have made it through the class. Friday discussions with the GA were pretty sweet.
Really easy B. Really hard A. Test are all essay. Three short essays at a 1/2 page to a page and one long essay at 2-4 pages at length. Great teacher, very knowledgeable of his subject, and class was interesting when I attended. What frustrated me about this class though was grading was subjective AND not conducted by Dr. Mcintyre, but by the GA.
A somewhat easy class. HOWEVER: Do not take this class if you want an unbiased teacher with leftest views. Also we talked about unions the whole time, and only spent two days on both world wars.
He was a good teacher but unfortunately biased. His tests were actually easier once he made them all essay. Fun Fact: McIntyre has a odd lisp and has bad sweaty pits.
Occasionally the class was difficult. Read the textbook, go to class, and study.
Dr. McIntyre is one of the best that I have had at MSU. He actually cares about his students. He does have very left views, but he is open about that and does not care about how people feel about it. Makes class interesting most of the time. This class requires two different papers and he grades really hard, but he is fair. Really enjoyed the class
He is extremely helpful and wants everyone to learn and be as passionate as he is. It is mandatory to go to class but I always looked forward to it. He listens to the class and if people are starting to fall behind or things aren't clear he is willing to work the class schedule to get everything accomplished. Overall great teacher!
Bias has no place in a classroom. He has not published in years yet is free with advice on writing and publishing. Regardless of what class you take, he will bury you in labor discussion. He has held up several grad student papers, yet he isn't actively publishing. He plays favorites and is unprofessional.
I loved this teacher!! He was very helpful if you went to see him during office hours. You HAVE to read to book, there once a week quizzes from the book. Half the test questions come from the quizzes, so you can at least get 50 percent on the test. There are 3 papers, but they aren't to hard. I really loved this class and learned a lot.
Overall a fantastic class. I had the honors section, which is small and 100% discussion and papers (and way harder). True, he's really into unions, but his understanding of the worker gives the class an amazing bottom-up perspective on US history. He'll help you see history differently--through the lens of the common man.
I had no interest in History but he made me look forward to class! He is an awesome teacher and makes the class interesting. He doesn't use the book anymore, three tests, and one paper (he made it optional). You have to learn five terms from every lecture but that makes it easy to take the test. Tests are pretty easy if you study and go to class!
Mr. McIntyre's ideas and knowledge on the topics discussed in class really make you think about history in a different way. The tests are a bit tricky, but if you go to class, take notes and practice writing out all the possible essay questions, I think you can make at least an A or B. He offers to help and is a nice guy.
He is an incredible professor. I did notice his bias a bit, but I think the effect of it is overstated in the other reviews. You are aware of it, but not distracted by it. He makes you think about History in a way you've never thought before. Emphasizes arguments and the "grand scheme of things" instead of asking us to just memorize facts. Awesome.
I really don't like this guy. He thinks every single person is a history major and so we have to know everything. It makes me angry when I am an art major, he literally says he wants it to be hard for us. It's extremely difficult and he knows it.
Mr. McIntyre knows how to make History extremely interesting and I found myself looking forward to class! I am a senior who was dreading taking History and put it off until my last semester and after having a lot of teachers I can honestly say he was one of the best! There was no mandatory reading or homework, just three tests and a paper!
I dislike history, but he made it interesting. I liked that he made the class more about the big picture and the why's of history, not just memorization. However, the tests were rough. He didn't give a study guide for the multiple choice and is super picky about essay questions. Often expected us to include things that weren't discussed in class.
I'm normally really bored in history classes, but McIntyre made history seem so interesting. I loved the class, however, it was definitely a challenge. Every test has about 30 mc questions & 2-3 essay portions. The only other grades were a few bonus points & a paper. You have to be willing to put in the work, but it's worth it!!! Don't buy the book
Makes history very interesting, even though it is a subject I am typically very bored in. Gives clear expectations for tests and, as long as you look over the lectures, yyou should have no trouble at least getting a B in this class.
He was one of my favorite teachers I have had. He made history interesting and fun to learn. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He was really good at answering my questions and clarifying anything.
The lectures are pretty boring, but if you take notes you will do good on the tests. Very nice and easy to approach. Make use of his office hours because he doesn't use blackboard, so you don't really know what your grade is. Only 4 test, no homework. Gives extra credit opportunities.
I felt like he respected his students like he would want to be respected. Talks a lot, but KNOWS what he's talking about!
"Dr. McIntyre is an idiot." That is the first note he has you write down, on the very first day. From that point on it was great, he knew his material and taught it with passion! Great teacher!
Dr. McIntyre is a great prof. The class is very lecture heavy, so take thorough notes. Overall, the tests are tough, but very fair. The book isn't necessary at all. Don't purchase it! By the time you begin work on the final paper, it will be a piece of cake. There are also some extra credit opportunities, so make use of them. He can go off subject.
Dr. McIntyre is a great teacher! He's a little odd and will look students straight in the eye for an extended amount of time so if that makes you uncomfortable avoid the front row (he would talk right at me every class). He's passionate about what he teaches, and the tests and paper that we did were not too challenging. He makes you want to think.
I could not keep up in lecture. He jumps around and is very unclear making note taking very hard. I would not take this class!!!
He is an awesome person, sweet, & really tries to be funny. His class is all lecture based (jumps all over the place) so if you don't go to class and take good notes you will struggle. There isn't too much in the grade book, but he really tries to help you. He doesn't use blackboard!!! If you want to know your grade you'll have to meet with him.
I loved having McIntyre for HST 122. He's nice and funny and cares a lot about history! You have to go to class and take notes to do good in the class, but the lectures aren't bad at all. You have to study for the tests (they're multiple choice and TF) and there's one paper, but he prepares you for it. An A is doable if you study.
Professor McIntyre lectures from the start of class to when class gets out. His tests are difficult, and he knows they are. He also tries to trick you into picking the wrong answer. He does not care what grade you receive in his course.
May be he tries to be a good professor but I think he never think about that will be a pretty large trouble for the international student. As it, I can not catch him at all in the class, even a sentence, he has no note and has a useless ppt. I do not know how to prepare the exam. I can not pass HST by him.
McIntyre really wants his 390 students to learn the material as it is an important class if you are majoring history. I liked the way he taught the class, mostly discussion based among himself and students. Definitely gives students the chance to be heard and respects what they say, trying to guide them in the right direction. Gives pop quizes.
As long as you show up and pay attention, you'll pass pretty easily. All his tests are true/false and multiple choice. If you contribute to discussion in class, he gives you extra credit.
He kind of seems a little scatterbrained because he tends to jump from one thing to another, but he is passionate about history and he is a sweet person. His tests are mainly lecture based so there is really no need for the textbook. He does care about students being able to do well and not struggle in his class
Dr. McIntyre is super funny and as long as you go to class you will definitely get an A on the test. He sends out the lecture slides ahead of time so you can make an outline in your notes(do this!) but you still need to show up because the slides dont have all the info. Your grade is made up of 3 tests and 20 extra credit points he gives. 10/10
he goes on tangents about random stuff, so i have no idea what he's going to ask on the test. his handwriting is awful. dont take this class at 9am or you'll fall asleep.
Dr. McIntyre is a fun teacher who holds your attention for the most part and just teaches a good class. Any future history classes I take I will try and get Dr. McIntyre.
McIntyre is a good professor, I just suck at history so a lecture only class proved difficult for me. Offers an opportunity for 20 pts extra credit. Only grades are three tests based on lecture, not the book. He is very willing to help and offer feedback. He really is a great professor, again, I am just terrible at history.
I loved Dr. McIntyre. Every test has 20 multiple choice questions straight from his lecture outlines and then 1 essay, which is 60% of your grade. Not a real tough grader but he doesn't just give it to you. Participate in class discussions and read the readings for the quizzes. You will do fine
Dr. McIntyre was a really good professor. 3 tests throughout the semester. Questions come straight from lecture. Very knowledgable about history and portrays the information well to his students.
I would recommend taking another professor if you have a hard time listening to lectures because his exams are 100% lecture based and can be difficult. A gen ed should not be this difficult. Material was not horrible to study but the exams are very specific and detailed, especially the true false questions.
If you're not a super strong test taker, DO NOT take this class with Dr. McIntyre! This class is way too difficult to be a gen ed! You only take 3 tests through the entire course and they're difficult. The final is ridiculous.
A great choice for a history gen ed. Dr. McIntyre knows his stuff for sure and is great at teaching it. Grades are based on just a few tests, so study hard!
McIntyre is the abosolute best HST 122 professor! There are only three tests and they are straight from his lectures so as long as you take notes in class you'll do great. Very understanding and caring about his students and wants you to get the best grade possible. Passionate about history! Definitely recommend!
Dr. McIntyre formatted his online class so it wasn't any more work than an in-person class. Every week you had to read a chapter out of the textbook and take a short quiz. Dr. McIntyre was very clear with what the quizzes would focus on. The midterm and final were both essays that had very clear grading criteria and that you had 3 days to complete.
He is very passionate about the subject. I am just absolutely awful at History and it did not help that I took this as an 8 week class. I do not recommend that, he makes you read two super long chapters a week and take two quizzes. The midterm and final exam are both essays. If you are good at history and don't mind reading, you'll be ok.
Dr. McIntyre is such a fun professor. You learn a lot in his class and he is always very passionate about history. He is also pretty funny. You have a few quizzes but they are easy. Textbook will be used for essay exams but I barely read it otherwise. Essay exams aren't very hard either. Overall, really enjoyed the class and loved the prof!
This class has not much work but is not an easy A in the slightest. One quiz per week and then a midterm/final essay. The quizzes are extremely difficult and are hard to pass. They're worded so extremely specifically, just overall very difficult and I struggled with them. It was made super hard for really no reason like he wanted you to do poorly.
I took this class online for the spring semester. If you're not a history person make sure to read the book or you're screwed for the quizzes. Very few points in the class so getting good scores matters. Tough grader on essays and basically told me mine was really bad. I got a D on it which trashed my grade and then GPA.
He really isn't that bad of a professor. Although, I don't like history and struggled. You have a quiz each week over a chapter in the book. Each question can be specifically found in the book, however, there is a time limit so I would skim through the chapter before taking it and did fine. The midterm and final were papers but he is a picky grader
Dr. McIntyre is hilarious and very caring. He is a tough grader on essays, but it makes you a better writer.
He's a great professor. But he takes class participation too far by making it a grade. You have to read a lot. Historiography is not something talked about, so do you're research. Be prepared before every class and read ahead of time or you'll fail. Pop quizzes are a wake up call. Don't let his kindness and funny exterior fool you.
The book is free online, but trust me, you most likely won't use it. If you're a fan of online courses, this class is NOT for you. If you don't go to class, you miss valuable information that isn't in the lecture outline. Also, he goes into such depth that you won't find on Google when it comes time to fill out the study guide.
this is a very lecture-heavy class. attendance is not mandatory but I would recommend going to most of them. the only grades are the tests. some test questions will ask what he thinks about it and what historians think about about, which you would know if u attended class. he is an okay teacher but is always willing to help when you need it. no hw
Lecture heavy, test heavy course. Fair grader, show up and put in the work and you'll do fine. There is a textbook, but it's free online.
I actually think Dr. McIntyre is a great guy, but he tends to get very sidetracked and loses focus on what the lecture is about. It was a difficult class because he took a while explaining events and taking notes was mandatory, and there were a lot. The material was actually amazing and I learned a lot, but still found the class difficult at times.
He is lighthearted, but gets sidetracked in lectures. It gets confusing as to what material is going to be on the tests/what to study for, though he has study guides, they are in open ended question format. Only has exams, no homework (and the textbook in free, but not needed) and makes deals w the students to help emphasize their best exam score.
Dr. McIntyre is a pretty nice guy, but not a very good professor. He doesn't give assignments and our only grade is the exams, which are pretty difficult. His finals are so much more difficult and unecessary than other 100-level professors, especially for a gen. ed. class. He also doesn't post his lectures online, so you have to attend every class.
Good teacher he knows his stuff but the only grades you have in the grade book are tests there is no hw so its very lecture-heavy. You do get study guides and note outlines which helps!
Dr. McIntyre is a great prof. for HST390. The readings are the most important part of the course - each class is a discussion of the chapters, and you must participate each class to get points. His grading is a little tough but that reflects the difficulty of the course. He is very kind and understanding - just take the time to put in the work.
3 tests through the whole semester (including the final), and one paper, no other assignments, study guides not graded. He is a little hard to understand sometimes because he mumbles, but he wouldn't mumble something that is important. Be ready to pay attention, come prepared for the tests. He is always willing to answer questions in office hours.
Professor McIntyre is passionate about history, but his class can be challenging. The quizzes are tough, but using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook helps a lot. Overall, it's a rewarding class if you put in the work.
Dr. McIntyre is a decent professor. His lectures are entertaining, but he doesn't post slides or recordings. He relies solely on exams, which can be frustrating. Study guides are adequate. I recommend reviewing previous students' quizlets and studying the book, as that helped me. He also made deals regarding grades.Just go to class/take good notes.
Mcintyre is great, and his lectures are really engaging. However, his schedule is unorganized and the exams are difficult, and the only thing you're graded on. I do really enjoy this class, but I know I won't love my grade. Also, don't sit towards the back because he can kind of mumble sometimes.
If you're signed up for this class, I would drop while you can. The entire class is graded on 3 exams which are incredibly difficult. You can study for weeks ahead of time, attend every lecture, and it still won't be enough. Lectures will make you want to fall asleep and are excessively long. Good luck.
Tests make up your entire grade and they're almost never fully based on his lectures. He clearly loves what he teaches, but this leads to him over explaining one tiny detail instead of what is actually important.
This professor is an amazing lecturer. You need to be prepared to take good notes as he will not post slides. If you know what is asked on the study guide you should do fine on the tests (which is important because that is your full grade). If you have questions he is more than willing to answer them during office hours (or other times).
He was just weird. Would sit and stand on tables. Also, it's very hard to sit and listen to him lecture.
While he is so fun and passionate about what he does, his lectures are very scarce so basically all the test info is what he verbally says, making absences disastrous. Tests are no-notes and theres not really a 'study guide' Great guy but not a class you can slack off on or feel super relaxed during due too all the studying you have to do.
going to lectures is absolutely necessary to get information in this class, but it is so worth it. teacher cares a lot about the subject and is happy to answer questions about specific historical details. very kind and understanding guy.
