Best teacher of my freshman year

Really really nice teacher. Easy with grading. Class mostly consists of reading stories and writing papers on them. Make sure you read, he does give short quizzes after every story. Great teacher for this class.

I absolutely loved Professor Mercier... such a good guy and really loves teaching. If you do the work (which is mostly easy) and you make it clear that you put in effort, you will get a great grade. Extremely understanding and helpful- take him if you have the chance!

Nicest guy ever. Doesn't have a mean bone in his body, and even if he did, it's broken and it will never heal. Very easy grader, fair amount of papers but definitely manageable. Class gets a little boring every now and then, but I recommend him 100%.

Professor Mercier is easily the best professor at Marist. Not only is it a pretty easy class, but he is always willing to help students. Classes are actually enjoyable to attend. If there was any possible way for me to take Professor Mercier's classes all throughout college I absolutely would.

One of the best professors. He was super willing to help, very engaging and interesting. Took him for one semester freshman year and he recognized me 2 years later. Great guy, you would be super lucky to take his class :)

Probably one of the best professors Marist has to offer. Professor Mercier really cares about his students and their work. His College Writing II class is enjoyable and he chooses fun projects to write and present on (song lyrics, ads, etc.). He's the nicest guy ever and he grades very generously. Extra credit for going to the Writing Center too.

Take him!!! So fun and easy! Quizzes in the beginning on easy short stories, watch movies and one research paper. Doing a project now. Essay grades go up half a grade for going to the writing center. Sweet guy! Not a hard grader at all. Best teacher

Take him, take him, TAKE HIM! He is the best! Always positive, never has made a nasty remark towards anyone in the class. Only work is journals throughout the semester that he collects twice, two easy presentations, and one big paper that you can write on literally whatever you want. He's very approachable and understanding. Highly recommend.

Took Lit and Gender with Professor Mercier online. He gave a bunch of assignments but they were all pretty easy to complete. Two essays and a final exam .He gave you articles and videos instead of actually reading full books which I liked since I am not a huge reader. I would definitely recommend him for an easy online class.

Prof. Mercier is wonderful! So funny and helpful. His FYS is Greening America, about nature. Better for those who are interested in the environment. Lots of readings in the beginning, then none at the end. Only a few easy papers. Final exam is just an 8p research paper, which isn't too bad. On any topic you want. I'd definitely recommend Mercier!

Professor Mercier is honestly the best teacher I've had at Marist. The nicest guy, interesting and really cool life, and a very solid teacher. He really cares about his students and wants nothing but the best for them. Mercier is extremely helpful and courteous and is honestly a wonderful guy to talk to.

He is a great teacher! Made the class fun and interesting considering it was a mandatory class. Gives great feedback. Not too many papers. Final is an 8pg paper on a topic of your choosing based on the course.

Professor Mercier has been by far my favorite professor at Marist. He is the nicest guy and cares about all of his students and what they have to say. Don't be afraid to speak up in class because he likes it and there are really no wrong answers. Class is easy and laid back and it is an easy A if you put the effort in.

He is just a genuine person. Something that is hard to find on a college campus where professors have such a high opinion of themselves. If you are in his FYS- Greening America class you should enjoy it. Some challenging assignments of course, but that is to be expected.

He is the most genuine professor at Marist College, he has an interest in his student's lives and cares. Whenever he see's me around campus he'll also stop to ask me about my class and remembers small details from my essays in class. Asking about my siblings, dogs, sports ect would definitely recommend

Ok, so.. I HATE public speaking, so the first day when he made us get up in front of everyone a introduce ourselves and play games I was ready to off myself. But to be honest, his class ended up being the one where I made ALL my friends and felt the most comfortable. He's proud of his students, he truly pushes you to you to be the absolute best

Professor Mercier's first year seminar is Greening America. He makes the class very fun and interactive. You'll have readings for homework almost every class with quizzes, but the are easy and the reading aren't to long. As long as you read you'll do fine in the class. He is very easy to talk to do and loves to learn more about all of his students

Took his greening america fys. I loved the class and him. I looked foward to the class each time and didnt mind the hw.

Recognized the name as soon as I saw Dr Mercier's name at the top of Marist's average rankings on this site. I took American Lit I, a summer class taught by this professor. Homework was straightforward and papers were graded in what I perceive to be a fair manner. Good learning experience.

Professor Mercier is my favorite professor I have ever had. I love his teaching style, very colloquial. You can really tell that he cares about what he is teaching. I had him for an 8am and was dreading it because of the heavy class load and early morning but I absolutely loved his energy and enthusiasm which motivated me.

Prof Mercier was my first college English course and he was amazing. He was always positive and never had one bad comment to say on what a student said in class. Genuinely cared about all of our wellbeings. Definitely gives some homework but worth it for a teacher with that much compassion. Love him

An excellent professor. He was very clear on his assignments, gave a fair amount to sustain a grade, but not overwhelm you. Very supportive, he makes you feel respected and intelligent. He also has assignments that make you think, but do not cause too much stress. He likes presentations and class participation but makes class a supportive place.

He is my favorite professor at Marist so far. He gives just the right amount of work. He is also very straightforward when it comes to assignments. Very Very nice guy and will always talk to you outside of class. Definitely take him!

Awesome Professor and really nice guy, has a clear grading criteria but be prepared for a pretty decent amount of homework and a lot of speaking in front of the class, like reading papers aloud and presenting. Does his best to get to know each student and is very motivating. Tries his hardest to keep class interesting.

Professor Mercier was amazing!!! I Have never met him actually but I had him for Lit and Gender that I took online over winter break. Yes it was obviously a lot of work shoved into a couple of weeks, but if you plan it out to do a little each day, it really is not bad at all. He was super understanding of anything I had trouble with. I got an A!

Dr. Mercier is the nicest professor in this entire school, hands down. I took Writing for College Honors with him and he was so kind, uplifting, and lovely. The class was an easy A too. Homework was mostly just reading short stories and answering questions about them. We had a few papers and two presentations, but he's an easy grader.

Best Professor I have had in my college experience. He is a great guy and a even better teacher. He finds a way to balance enjoying class and learning at the same time. Makes you truly interested in what you're learning. Highly reccomend taking his classes, would be a mistake if you do not.

Professor Mercier was super chill and didn't really seem like he cared too much about the quality of work as long as you try and show effort. Pretty kooky personality but you'll learn to love it. Great guy would definitely take his course again if I could

If you have the chance to take Professor Mercier..... just take him. His class was such a breath of fresh air. I took him for an accelerated course in Writing for college online and this has been the greatest class I have taken at Marist so far. He gives regular homework but you can tell he worked har to choose course work that was not dry. 10/10.

I can't even put into words how amazing Professor Mercier is. You can tell truly cares and respects his students and is very encouraging. When it comes to his assignments, as long as you show him you're putting in effort you'll get a good grade. If you can take his class, take it!!!! It will make your experience at Marist 100x better.

Honestly one of the best professors you could take. He definitely cares about his students and encourages/inspires them. If you could take his class DO IT! Homework and forums are easy. There are 3 papers and presentations, but he's lenient on grading.

One of the best professors at Marist. I took him again a second time because he's that great. You can tell he really cares for his students and is passionate about the subject. He's very encouraging and kind when it comes to participation or presenting your essay.

By far my favorite professor of all time! I was worried about the fully online format but, he made it so engaging and I almost preferred it compared to my other in-person classes. He grades fairly easy and his personality left me smiling every class. Looking forward to taking another class with him in the future!

Professor Mercier is the BEST! He is so kind, caring, and encouraging of every single one of his students. I have had the pleasure to take multiple classes with him and I plan on staying in contact with him for years to come. He made me look forward to class every week. He's also an incredibly talented musician :)

Loved him. Gave short readings with just a few questions due for each class, nothing insane. 3 papers throughout the semester, but you could essentially write them on any topic. He was super understanding if you had to submit anything late, or missed class for a day. Participate during class, do the work, and you'll end up with an A.

Really genuine and caring teacher. All readings were given to students through iLearn. Not difficult to keep up with the course work, picked interesting short stories. Extra credit available. If you have to take another English class, take this one you won't regret it.

There are a lot of readings, some of which are incredibly boring, but he is one of the sweetest profs. He was very encouraging and always seems very proud of every answer shared in discussions which is nice. A few papers but they have broad range of topics, and easy grader. He is one of the sweetest and most caring profs you'll find!

He is the sweetest guy! He is very understanding and passionate about the class. The course had an environmental theme, which became very repetitive after a while, especially with the countless homework writing assignments. Class time is spent reading your writing out loud, but he gives no feedback on what you submit, and I didn't learn anything.

I had Professor Mercier last semester, and he is one of the kindest professor's I've ever had and probably will ever have. He deeply cares about his students and it shows. There is A LOT of work assigned in this course however, but he will still give you full credit if you submit late!

Professor Mercier is one of the best professors at Marist. He is so beyond kind, knowledgeable, and funny! Even though this FYS (Greening America) is quite heavy, the work is manageable, and stay on top of the discussion posts! Overall, I would advise taking this class with Professor Mercier!

He is the sweetest man ever. He did give lots of homework assignments but they were interesting and pretty simple. He makes the class interesting because of his passion for the subject and helped my passion for nature grow as well. During the warmer days he takes you outside for class. It was a very later back and comfortable environment.
