It's hard to take an undergraduate education major's comments about a philosophy class seriously, since most of majors study pedagogy and not content. Once content is introduced it disrupts the usual "leadership posturing" exercises. I'd liken some ed personalities to failed policemen. Haymes is a top choice for content & philosophy of education.

The main problem with this professor, other than his soft monotone voice, unclear explanations, and inability to understand differing points from other students, was the content: He focused too much criticizing right wing policies rather than exploring the broad philosophical issues in ed.

He is very smart and knows his material but he has no idea how to teach. This makes it difficult especially when the readings are pretty hard to understand. Also 50% of your grade is on a final paper, 20% on your midterm, and 30% on your final exam. But if you miss ONE class your entire grade is lowered one letter grade. He's a little unreasonable.

I tried really hard to push through his class and try to enjoy it. His assignments are long and not explained, he grades things late and does not explain what is expected. Lectures are long and waste of money. He has very outdated and damaging outlooks on ADHD and autism, he then argued with me about it in front of the whole class. Awful professor.

He should be ashamed to be a professor. Absolutely awful in every and even bother trying to ask for help you won’t get any. For some one who can’t use a computer I have no idea why he has an all online class. Unless you want to give yourself actual depression don’t take this class

Dr. Haymes is the worst professor I've had. You can do well if you really apply yourself; I got an A on a few assignments and he gives full points for participation and discussion posts weekly. He's incapable of managing his class and never makes himself clear on what he wants to see in assignments. If you email him, he won't answer your questions.

I thought DePaul has the top professors, to give us the education we deserved. I can speak for all students and say we spend so much money for these classes to help succeed in our future careers. I have all respect for all my teachers I have had, except for Stephen Haymes. Only took this class for credit and an embarrassment to DePaul University.

He is not a helpful teacher during class and gives unhelpful assistance towards his students. Why is he a professor at DePaul and why is LSE380 required. He ruined wanting to be a teacher for me, and the lectures were not helpful at all. Waste of money and during his 3 hour long lectures, I feel like I have lost so many brain cells from his class.

I accidentally put yes for the, would you take this class again portion. Absolute dog water. 3 hours for an all online class is horrendous. He should not teach at DePaul. His standards are so high and give us readings that does not make sense. He does not belong to teach here because we need to take classes that are important towards us. He's awful

Especially for a required course for education majors, he is the absolute worst professor. I look forward to the day he no longer works for DePaul University.

There is a lot of reading in the class. I had a hard time keeping up with the readings and the quizzes sometimes. He asks students to participate in class and asks that we put on our cameras. The final project and paper are very time consuming and difficult. Despite the challenges, I felt like I still learned a lot

I believe this class was a lot of work, but it also wasn't. Each week we basically did: 3hr zoom class, 1-3hr video lectures, readings, movie/video, and a quiz (can be hard but gives you multiple chances). However, I could cram this work into one-two days. If you don't understand readings, watch the lecture vids...everything builds from readings

It's a 3hr class and there were times he gave a 5 min break. You must keep your camera on and sit upright. you are not allowed to eat, turn off your camera, excuse yourself, without permission. Maybe he slept the whole day, but many of us come from work/another class. these expectations and a rude professor made it very hard to learn. Avoid!

So ironic that we are taking this class to become educators, but this professor will shoo you away after giving you the syllabus. He won't answer clarifying questions and doesn't pronounce names correctly (even after being corrected) it's disrespectful and he's overall a bad model for future teachers.

Not sure why so many negative reviews. The class itself is super dense and incredibly boring, but Prof Haymes is a nice guy and tries to help with comprehension. He will cold call about thoughts on readings, so pay attention! But his assignments are not too hard, he gives great feedback, and he is flexible with due dates when needed.

Prof Haymes seems like a nice guy but completing the midterm and final was hell!! The class was three hrs long and breaks were incosistent. im not even really sure what I learned in this course it was so boring. I'll say that having unlimited tries to complete the quizzes was super helpful.Class often ran late & assignment rubrics were inconsistent
