O'Leary is probably the funniest professor I've ever had. Not a very easy class, but none of the GB 201s are easy. He makes class enjoyable, 2 tests, 2 collected homeworks, 2 projects, and the final. Definitely reccomend.
Very hard professor. Didn't help out in class. Wasn't helpful and has some terrible jokes.
even though gb 201 was at 8:30 in the morning, he was always so up beat and ready to teach! awesome professor! i wish he would teach upper level accounting courses!
Even though most of what he says doesnt make sense... I learned so much from him in this class. 201 isnt easy anyway u draw it up. Def recommend taking him. Very very funny.. I find myself laughing at some of his ridiculous comments weeks after the fact. Ask him his opinion on Crab Rangoon... nuff said.
Troy O'Leary is a savage.
He's such a nice guy and makes sure his students understand the work. If not, he will do it continuously until you understand. He's also hilarious when he jokes in class and always talking about drinking baileys when correcting projects. Definately take him.
If you want to get on his good side, tell him you love Baileys, Crab Rangoon and Eggnog lattes from Starbucks.
Not unlike a fine wine, O'Leary gets better with age. I took him for 201, and he was equally as amazing a teacher as he was during 202. Really knows his stuff and is always willing to help his students "stay on the train."
financial acc soOO difficult. he goes too fast and expect that you know everything
Horrible. Very arrogant, not responsive to questions, did not use the material from the book on his tests, horrible at explaining material and discombobulated.
Horrible grading policy. He doesn't do partial credit--I lose 20 points off the top of my final because I used the handout format not the book format (which he doesn't tell you he wants). I had almost all the numbers correct but he marked it all wrong. Killed my GPA. He's upbeat and the material is easy to understand but don't take him.
Really funny guy. Very helpful, and constantly wants to know if people find themselves "off the train". His tests are slightly difficult but only because of the multiple choice that he is required to put on the test. Great guy
Not a good teacher at all. He runs through his examples so fast, you have no time to write it down/understand anything. DON't TAKE. Killed my GPA. didn't learn anything. if you take him the real classes where you learn is review sessions
Great great person. It is a very tough class so be prepared to do work but if you give any kind of effort a 3.3 is simple. Sometimes, taking a hard professor like O'leary is worth it because he is a great person and knows how to teach.
Awesome Professor. took for 201 and 202. learned more from him than any other professor. very enjoyable class. helpful and fair grader approachable Noticed person below wrote on Christmas Day. Oughta GET A LIFE!!
learned a ton from him...never thought I would like accounting..explains subject in an understandable way..classes are not boring..helped me during office hours...very encouraging person...no surprises on exams..looked forward to class..def. recommend
explains everything in a way that it is easy to understand. decided to major in accounting after taking him. highly recommend. you won't be disappointed. great prof.
really enjoyed the course. very helpful in office hours. recommend.
stay on the "train" and you will do good!!!
he can teach knows his stuff fair grader
This is a good professor as long as you know what you are doing in the class. If you have any sort of question, good luck getting an answer out of him, he beats around the bush so much it's not even worth asking. Also, his opinion is the only opinion. Good luck, loves his boston accent. Good luck!
went to his final exam review session. learned more from him in an afternoon than I did all semester with my professor.
At first I didnt realize what i was getting myself into with him as a professor, because I thought his class was so easy and it wasn't going to prepare me for the final. however, it was only because he was an amazing teacher that it appeared easy, I aced the final, and love him as a person he's an amazing teacher, just doesn't answer questions well
AWESOME!!!! DON'T BE A FOOL!! TAKE HIM!!!
DITTO!!!!!!!!
Pro: 1. Friendly and explains things in very simple terms 2. experienced teacher. Con: However 1.often makes mistakes in-class 2.DO NOT CORRECT HIM BY YOURSELF, he gets mad when corrected by individuals(but not when class corrects him) 3.Very traditional (prohibits computer notes)
Professor is very energetic and fun to listen to, but if you take class seriously-hope for a better teacher. He talks like a walking self-help book, teaches glaring mistakes (until the class corrects him), and teaches class like he was still teaching at a local college. BTW, do not use your computer to take notes-he's one of the few to prohibit it.
He's hilarious! Love the Boston accent. The Bad? I guess he sometimes seems to have short patience. As long as u dont draw attention to yourself, and dont mind accepting whatever grade he gives (he's a tough grader), you'll be fine.
Attending class was fun, he's very helpful and ready to reply and answer your questions at any time. But I didn't think that he was a fair grader! loved his class though!
Best GB teacher! Definitely recommend for any class
Funny, easy-going and helpful when you need him. His tests are tricky and he sometimes doesn't explain the material thoroughly enough but he is still one of the best 112/212 professors around.
FANTASTIC, FABULOUS, FUNNY and FAIR. What more can you ask for in a professor???
This professor is funny, nice and knows what he is talking about. He is also helpful if you ask questions. He even gives out life tips in class. The tests in his class are hard, but if you study for them, they are not too bad. I would definitely take him again and I highly recommend him.
Such a great professor! He is amazing!! So funny and always gives you tips. You can tell he loves his job and wanted every student to succeed! He is amazing!! Highly recomend him, the only down turn is the class is tough but every 112 class is tough so take him because its easier. Also he isn't the best at answering questions but worth it! Take him
this last person is out of site and out of mind. she has got the wrong prof, school and course. there is no course 201 in the bentley catalogue. he is very popular. i tried to get into his sections and they all closed in ten minutes.finally got in. one of the best accounting profs at Bentley. very helpful. no cake walk.
The BEST GB 112 teacher your missing out if you don't take him !
amazing professor. GB112 is a hard class no matter what, he makes it as reasonable as possible. Extremely lenient on grading, in his own words, he's "a bleeding heart."
GB 212 is an insanely difficult class and I don't think anyone would deny that. However, Prof. O'Leary makes it doable -- I won't say "easy" because I'd be misleading you, but doable. He even goes through every homework problem and puts the solutions on Blackboard, which is very helpful for studying for exams. I highly advise taking his class.
GB 112/212 are both terrible classes but atleast with O'Leary he always made being there enjoyable. Cared about his students but a lot of times couldn't answer questions. Fair grader, especially if you meet with him. Gives good life tips. Would recommend him.
Excellent professor. Kind of a picky grader and can sometimes rush through things, but he is very engaging and makes the material very understandable He also encourages students to meet with him outside of class. You can tell he wants people to do well. Hilarious accent and life tips as well!
I sacrificed my 8:30 for this class. O'Leary is a great guy, and gives lots of life & money saving tips. Unfortunately, you are not tested on them... there is too much time wasted in this class for the subject matter. Things are sometimes rushed through, and powerpoints can be hard to follow (though he is given them by dept. and must use them)
a born accounting professor. know doubt about it. awesome .now good luck trying to get into one of his classes recommend.
O' Leary is the MAN!!!!! honestly i recommend taking him for both GB 112 and GB212 but here are some tips always meet with him and discuss your status and 2nd just have convo of anything! he will go out of his way to help you but hey GB212 is hard but try your absolute best! he will not take your hard work for granted. He loves chinese food! haha
Definitely recommend. He is a great professor and a nice guy. He does a lot of cold calls, meaning he calls on people for homeworks whether you are prepared or not.
Definitely take his class, he is a nice guy that genuinely wants his students to do well. Get ready to study though, the tests are not easy.
O'leary is the man. His classes were very enjoyable. As someone whos never done financeaccounting before this class, he's taught me a lot. Only slight downside is that his exams are harder than some of the other professors. But I'd still take him anyways.
He is super funny! He will definitely prepare you for your next classes and knows the specifics about what you will need to know. He definitely comes on strong and tells the truth like it is, but dont take it personally. Hes a typical Irish bostonian ( thick accent). OVERALL, GREAT PROF, FUNNY, a little tough. Dont expect clear answers to questions
Oleary makes accounting interesting and easy to understand. He's a super nice and funny guy. Definitely recommend.
His stories are very funny but if you actually want to learn, pick a different professor. If you have him, go to the review sessions and you'll be fine.
Professor O'Leary is such a funny guy! I learned a lot in his class and did not mind waking up at 8:30 for his class. He made classes fun and was always available for help during office hours. He really enjoys teaching and it shows. Participate and show up and he will give you a grade better than your tests reflect.
He is a funny and entertaining professor but you will not learn anything in his class. If you are prepared to learn the material on your own then you will be fine.
Best Accounting Prof at Bentley. Learned a ton of stuff from him. took him for both GB112 and GB212. very fair grader. exams can be tough. always available to help me out with the problems. you can tell he loves to teach accounting. highly recommend him. you will not be disappointed. decided to major in accounting because of him. nuff said.
Was lucky to have him as a freshman because he helped me to get familiar with university. He encouraged me and motivated me for the entire class. No cake walk. My favorite class this year. His office door was always open for me. Was a tough grader of the project. Has some personal problems and he was very helpful to me going through it.
BETTA TAKE O'LEARY FOR GB112 OR GB212 OR BOTH BEFORE YOU GRADUATE OR YOUR A FOOL!!! AWESOME!!!
The class itself is fun most of the times. However, majority of the time you will not learn anything. He skims over most stuff and is not clear at all. He's funny though, so he has that. Also, im pretty sure his exams are a lot harder than other GB professors, and he grades hard as well.
O'Leary is one of the best people you will meet at Bentley. If you are lucky enough to have him, take the time to really get to know him. Show that you are trying and interested and he will help you out in the end with your grade. (if you laugh at his jokes) Very happy I took this class even though it was at 8:30!
This man is one of my favorite things about Bentley. I REALLY struggled in 212, as in I should not have passed and was hoping for a 1.0 in the class and he gave me a 2.0 because I showed effort and went to his office hours. Try to sit in the front, become his friend and your grade will reflect it. Super nice, funny, and helpful. Take him!!!
GOOD LUCK GETTING INTO ONE OF HIS CLASSES!!!!!!!
O'leary is HANDS DOWN the best professor I've had at Bentley. He takes the time to get to know you and is hilarious. The content is tough, I took him during a summer session and he would offer to stay as late as we wanted at the end of every single class - even until midnight. Awesome approach to teaching - he really cares. mistake not to take him
O'Leary is by far the best prof at Bentley. He gives great life advice as well as makes the class manageable. I am so happy I got and and I am taking him for 212 next semester as well. Highly recommend!!!
Would definitely recommend! He is a great guy who is clear/precise and is so willing to provide advice and help. Best teacher I've had so far!
graduated in may and sitting at my desk at EY with an awesome job because of Professor O'Leary who set me on the rite track in GB112/212. Congratulations Prof. O'Leary who at my graduation received the amanian award for teaching excellence. about time. owe were I am today because of his influence. best prof I had at Bentley. strongly recommend.
O'Leary is the man. His classes are fun-filled and the 80 minutes fly by. His freshman tips and stories are hysterical. He also taught a huge amount of information and presented it in an engaging manner. I absolutely recommend this teacher! I hear he also helps a lot of students get jobs...
Definitely take him for GB 112 or 212. Best there is. Funny guy, gets to know you, and makes the stuff easy to understand. If accounting and finance keeps you up at night, you'd be in good hands with O'Leary. Project grading is choosy. If you just want to get through 112/212, go with O'Leary.
O'Leary is definitely one of the best profs for 112. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. If he likes you, you'll do much better in the class. This is a difficult class, especially for freshmen, but O'Leary is always there to offer help. Do whatever you can to take him.
honestly my favorite prof at Bentley so far and i had him for an 8 am class. talk to him because he won't only help your grade but possible future jobs.
Awful teacher. He is terrible at actually teaching and all he does is go over homework assignments without teaching how to do it. He skips over the tough/important concepts that we are not good at while spending far too much time on the easy stuff that had been taught in 112. I would stay away! He is tough on the project and offers no help on it.
excellent professor in every respect. took him for summer GB212 which was my second time. knows how to explain this stuff. class ended at 9:30 but he stayed and went over stuff with us until 11:00. fair grader always. wants his students to do well. take him you won't be disappointed. highly recommend. nuff said.
absolutely love the guy. taught me a ton of stuff. highly recommend.
I think that O'Leary was a fine teacher. The class itself was not the easiest, so it all comes down to how well you are able to teach yourself the material.
O'Leary was a solid professor that told hilarious stories. Sometimes he wasn't very clear in class, so you have to teach yourself a lot, but he really cares about his students and didn't grade the tests very hard. Go to his office hours, he will absolutely love you if you show you're dedicated to his class.
O'Leary was the best professor I have had so far at Bentley. He is absolutely hysterical and you will love him as a professor. Get to know him and go to his office hours as he really likes seeing personality from his students. The course he teaches is bit difficult at times but he does a great job of showing real life examples. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
One of the few professors that actually keeps me interested in class! He actually makes me want to learn the course because of his great use of examples. TRUST ME TAKE HIM.
Not a good teacher. Skips over difficult topics, and doesnt answers students questions. All he does is go over the homework, and read the slides without actually explaining them. He also wont accept work as correct if it isnt done his way. If you learned something in 112 one way from a different teacher, youll have to do it his way or no credit
Awesome dude, very funny, would go to him outside of class for career and life advice. Going to office hours makes a big difference. It's a tough class (GB212), but if you work hard enough you should be fine. Loved O'Leary, and would take again for sure. Keeps everyone laughing and on their toes.
I have had Professor O'Leary for both GB112 and 212. He is extremely fair when grading the tests. He will cold call on people for answers to the homework and in-class problems but almost always has the right answer up on the board and will never call you out for being wrong. I highly recommend to take him if you can.
Professor O'Leary is a very funny teacher who always uses real world examples when explaining different topics. He does not use a lot of powerpoint and focus' more on going over the homework and in class problems. He is not great at answering questions, but his class is very laid back
He is a good professor and can teach the material clearly (for the most part). Goes off on tangents time to time. Tough grader and is not very receptive when you try to explain your thinking or rationale. (His way or the highway). The course itself is heavily regulated so there's not much leeway but he does his best to help your grade when he can.
O'Leary tells you to not sweat the small stuff but does the exact opposite when grading tests and projects. He rushes through the material and power points in order to tell random stories. He's funny and nice but mostly ending up teaching yourself everything and will be frustrated by how he grades and how he won't even let you talk tohim aboutit
If you want a good grade on exam, DO NOT take him. Most strict Professor I've ever taken in Bentley. His class is fun and fulfill with stories and tips. Btw, you need to ready before each class because he will spend more time on telling other irrelevant things.
He makes accounting and finance enjoyable! I dreaded this class but he really wants you to do well. GB 112 and 212 are hard courses no matter which teacher you get. However, O'Leary is very willing to help, you just need to ask him. He got me through it. Take him for 212!
O'Leary was the worst professor I have had. One time there was a multiple choice question that I had trouble with and when I went to his office hours for help he told me that he can't explain to me how to do the problem he could only give me the answer and I'm pretty sure it's because he didn't know how to do it himself.
OLeary was the worst Professor out of the 16 Ive had here. He never answered any questions and would laugh at me when I asked. Hes very tough on grading and doesnt care about you if he doesnt like you on the first impression. Miserable class with a miserable person and he is so judgemental.
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR GB112 OR 212. He doesn't explain anything, doesn't answer questions never teaches. when you ask him a question, he responds with something completely off topic. he always mixes up material and numbers and whatever homework we were supposed to go over. the only reason i am going to pass this test is because of tutoring. DON'T TAKE
Professor O'Leary is an amazing professor. I had no interest in accounting coming into college, but Professor O'Leary makes accounting as understanding and fun as possible. He really cares about his students and that they do well. If you take the time to do the homework and study, he'll love you and the class will be enjoyable. Highly recommend!
Lol Oleary is a very interesting guy. He tells hilarious stories almost every class. He also is pretty good on grading the tests and claims to give more partial credit than most teachers, which is debatable. I wouldn't say he is the best teacher in terms of explaining the material but hes a solid guy. Take him if you have the option to. If not, meh.
O' Leary is OK. He's a nice old guy who will always offer to help, but to be honest he just isn't good at teaching the material. If you want to do well in 112 (which is a very tough course), you're going to have to do most of the work on your own. Overall, I would suggest not taking O' Leary.
He is incredibly enthusiastic and each lecture is filled with energy. The 112 course is highly structured at Bentley so he is required to teach from the slides but he does a great job explaining each concept. He gives partial credit on exams which is super important in this course. Very down to earth which is surprising for a 25+ yr tenured prof
Really nice and funny person. Teaches material but if you don't understand and ask a question he gives you a really confusing answer that has nothing to do with the question you asked. There aren't many good options for 112 and it's a hard class either way. He gives partial credit on the exams so overall I would take again.
Professor O'Leary is hilarious. GB112 in general is really tough, but he makes going to class enjoyable. He isn't the most helpful with questions but he gives really helpful handouts. He also gives partial credit which is nice. Would take him again.
Comedy class You dont learn anything bro, dont take him
Stay away. All he does is talk none sense the whole 80 min. He tells jokes that arent even funny and you end up needing extra help if you wanna pass the class. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Worst guy out here. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Hes a tough grader and never teaches in class, I mean NEVER. He spends 80 minutes talking none sense the whole semester
Great guy as a person but not so much as a professor. Doesn't really go into depth with the PowerPoint notes given unless questions are asked in class. Additionally, he doesn't really answer questions the majority of the time... there was one girl in my class who explained and answered questions people asked.
Made accounting a lot harder than it already is. When you ask him a question in class he never actually answers it. He tells stories more often than anything helpful. He does give partial credit but his grading is unclear. If your name is Horacio do NOT take this class.
terrible... just talks about random stuff and he doesn't even know what he is talking about half of the time
Really caring professor. He will boost your grade if you participate enough, so I highly recommend doing that. Not the greatest at teaching the material, but is overall a good professor.
I had this professor my first year both in 112 and 212. Never explains the material and simply reads out of the slides. The fact that he gives extra credit does not make up for the minimum help or attention he gives to students. Especially for 212 mixes up dates for electronic submissions and never answers to email. Wouldn't recommend.
Not my favorite style of teaching, lots of straight lectures and little to no examples or other activities to enhance learning. Group project was helpful to understand more about the material and was a positive experience when talking about learning to work with other students. Few grades in the book, so you really have to do well on everything.
He's not a great professor. Do not take him at all. He's really funny during class and ends early but you will NOT learn. You have to self study because he doesn't even know the material himself. When someone asks a question during class about a problem, he just opens the answers key and tells us the numbers. Doesn't go over ANYTHING properly.
His class is like my life, overtly complicated and without any order in it. I loved going to class for the sole reason of hearing him rant about his "yellow gas station only a block away" which offers candy bars for dirt cheap. Do NOT take his class if you think it will take you time to understand the material or if you need thorough explanations.
His class was entertaining and was fun. However, he is not good at explaining course content and material. Never answers your questions directly. He is available for office hours but is not very helpful. Self teach EVERYTHING! First time at accounting DO NOT TAKE HIM. He rambles and goes in many directions its hard to follow.
Don't take Stephen O'Leary's class. Or, take it if you like not getting any of your grades back and enjoy being given grades at the end of the semester that make no sense given the grading structure in the syllabus. If you are going to take Professor O'Leary's class, get ready to teach yourself for an entire semester. This guy is washed up.
Honestly the worst professor I have had so far at Bentley. He lectures on for half of the class and gets off topic very quickly. If you ask him a question, I guarantee he will not answer it and immediatlty move on to a different topic. He only gave back my first exam grade, and when I emailed him for my other grades, he never answered me.
I took O'Leary for GB 112 and 212. If you participate and sit up front he will reward you. He's very entertaining, but doesn't really answer questions. If you don't talk in class, don't take him. People slam him for not giving back various grades, which I do agree with, but do keep in mind COVID-19 changed the whole semester. There are worse profs
O'Leary was an amazing teacher for 112 and 212. He is really funny and engaging and gives a lot of useful advice that will help you with your career in the long run. He is not great at answering questions, but anyone saying he is bad at teaching the material is probably just bad at accounting.
The professor I'll never forget. Back in '18, he made *bad debt* and *depreciation* unforgettable and joked about keeping *DayQuil* handy when it's cold. "Role-plays" were legendary, and he promised he'd zipline at graduation to quiz us on *depreciation*. The man, the myth — hope you're still watching Bentley Hockey. "No money no honey."
