If a professor needs a sit-in-tutor in his class, doesn't that tell you something. Please don't take him. Tests are nothing like material covered in lecture, nor the book

This class is hard but he makes it interesting with examples and stories. You must come to class and read the text to do well.
His class is strictly lecture...so make sure you like that type of setting...exams are on up to 5 chapters...and you MUST read the book to do well...is helpful and always responds to e-mails...set up study sessions before the exams
he gives cool examples using videotapes of concepts. Tests are not easy but he gives lots of practice tests to study. He also gives study tips that help (I think they helped me on the last exam, I didn't use them on other exams)

He's a good guy, but his class is hard.
He is very unclear and unorganized. Half of the time he doesn't know what he himself is saying. Also his tests are impossible. Everyone I know got a D in his class.
I did bad on first quizzes and exam but after talking with him and using his tips I have been getting B's. He expects you to work (come to class, read text, take practice tests) in order to to well. But if you do follow suggestions you can do well.
He is a nice guy but his tests and quizzes are IMPOSSIBLE.

is a teacher that expects you to work. he tells you how to do well, and is always helpful (responds to emails, meets when you want). if you do work you can do well. not a class to slack off in
nice guy, but a bad professor
hard, hard class. But he helped me improve and i learned a lot
He taught me how to study for college classess. His class made me think and read. His tests made me use the subject not just memorize. I hated the class early when I struggled. After meeting with him and studying harder than ever I loved the class
He is an absolutely HORRIBLE teacher. He should not even be able to get a job in a remote jungle teaching monkeys. They are smarter than he is. He ruined my general psychology grade. Thanks, Oross. Keep walking around campus with your head down.
cuts through book to make ideas clear. helpful - he always asks if you understand and if you don't he works to help you. gives lots of quizzes, homework, and exams but explains that these help you learn and give you a chance to recover from poor score.
Nice Guy...horrible teacher
He is hard but fair! Ask for his help and he will help you. The tests are hard but they are fair! You have to study to pass his courses! Easy to talk to and he listens to his students.
sucks
he doesn't suck. he is hard though. if you read, get the notes and study you can do well. if you don't do these things you cannot do well
nice guy-- not a great teacher
very very nice man, but... teaches straight from the book then makes tests very tricky, no questions are straight forward and when u should get an a u get a b.. and so on
on the first exam I got a D (barely) but I talked to him and he went over study tips and strategies to use. on next test I got an A. if you do the work that he tells you is required you will do well - if you don't work you will not do well.
Nice guy, cant teach
very nice but his class can be challenging. A lot of notes and reading. Tests are hard, but I got a C overall so he's not that bad
cool teacher, easy quizes drops lowest 3 , test are soso if you study you will get a b i got an A
pretty hard class. you really have to study, go to class and pay attention. however he is VERY helpful and always wants u to do well. drops the lowest 3 quizzes
I did not do good in this class but this is what a college class should be like. To do good you have to study, read, and go to class. I did not study much and should get about a D just because I went to class
hard class but u can do good if you study and go to class
Worst prof at KU can't teach knows his stuff though. If he could teach then his class would be ok.
Very challenging course, don't take unless you're really willing to work at it, and read the book. Otherwise, interesting material, very eye-opening..pun intended.
stats is not a very easy course esp. if your a psych major who hasnt taken a math course in 2 years. Hes not always prepared but i feel he's a good math teacher. Light Hmwk will help your grade, quiz about once a week. his last 2 tests are rushed in....
He's cool
expects you to come to class, read the book (carefully), and think. This is not a professor to take if you want to coast through a class.
Nice guy just read the book and come to class. His class isn't that boring. Overall good choice.
Very helpful and nice, but hard
I will give him props for his teaching but he is an ****. If he could care more about students and actually want to help them it would have made a difference. He pics his favorites! AND HE ISN'T FUNNY! He constantly tell jokes just laugh it will help your grade!
His general psych class is really boring. He does not make his lectures interesting and half the class dropped him by the end.
The class is pretty hard. There are 10 quizzes, 4 exams counting the final which isnt cumulative, 2 portfolios, so you have many ways to get a good grade. The class is interesting and Oross is a great professor. You do need to work hard to get a good grade.
Kinda funny...lectures are boring as hell! I passed out I dunno how many times! Gives a lot of quizzes tho...they're easy but tests are tough!
Very good teacher and explains things well. He does give many quizzes but its good for points. I got a B on the first test, not so bad. This is the type of class where the material is hard but he is a good prof for it. He isn't that hard.
The best prof in the psych dept. The class is hard, but one of the most interesting one I have ever taken.Anyone who gives this prof a bad rating is too lazy to read the text or do work outside the class. If that's the case, you shouldn't be at college anyways.
extremely nice, teaches well and makes things easy to understand. highly recommend taking him. lots of quizzes and portfolios but if you do them and study for them, you'll be fine. all notes are on powerpoint so you can print slides off before class starts. by far, my favorite professor.
I failed this class with someone else and will pass this time (maybe with a B). Oross is interested in helping and tries to make the material and class somewhat interesting. He really cares how students do
THE MOST AMAZING PROF EVER!!! His classes aren't easy, but it's not because he is not a great prof, but the subjects were just difficult period. He does a wonderful job trying to make it as clear as possible. Keep up with the work and you'll be fine..slack & you're not. Best prof I've ever had!!
Excellent teacher!! By far one of the best prof. I have had at KU. Stats is not an easy course, but Dr. Oross does a great job at teaching it. He is willing to help and gives quizes and homeworks to help your grade. If you need to take this course I higly recommend hiim, however you have to go to class in order to do well.
Best professor I had at Kutztown. Lays everything out for you and can easily be understood
he's a great prof. he tries to help u out as much as possible...i think he's a great guy
Best professor i've had in college, knows exactly what he is talking about and is a good teacher in the way that you actually learn what your supposed to and the classes arent hard for no reason
Good prof. knows his stuff. exams not difficult. Slow to return graded material is only problem.
Sensation and Perception isnt an easy course... its stuff you've probably never learned before but he only gives quizzes, approx 14... 4 papers, 5 pages in length and all his notes are online... Definatley take him over warner!!! And he offers extra credit at the end which is all the old quiz questions in one big test... 50 points!
Oross is an excellent professor. Highly recommended. Material is challenging for most students and requires you to stay on top of it, but he posts all of his lecture slides and is very, very willing to work with students. Laid back and helpful. Makes material interesting. Definitely go for the extra credit final.
had him over a year ago - he is the most challenging prof I had but one of the best. I learned a lot in his classes. He wants you to do well but he wants you to earn it.
i love this man! he is SO nice and SO funny. his classes are really interesting, thorough, clear... and just amazing and fabulous. his projects are pretty easy, and his tests are challenging, but i think it's very possible to do well as long as you read the text and most importantly come to class and take notes. he puts notes on blackboard
Good lecturer but has a quiz EVERY WEEK. You need to study A LOT to get good grades in this class. At least half the class is failing right now. I hate his quizzes because I never understand his wordings and usually get a lot wrong. I don't highly recommend.
Very intellectual, classes are interesting and demanding of your full attention and additional out of class work is a must. Great professor and I recommend for any of his classes. Go to class and read the book and do well on the weekly quizes!
he's challenging but makes it easy to learn for those who actually work
He's a very intelligent and nice prof who is very willing to help you if you need it. The class is really challenging and you have to keep up on the readings and you have to pay attention and take good notes in class. You have to work hard in this class but it pays off in the end because you learn a lot. Don't take him if you want an easy A.
Dr. Oross is definitely a good professor, and his course is worth taking. The tests are moderately difficult. If you do the work and come to class you will do just fine. He also gives an extra credit quiz at the end of the semester, and allows you to drop your two lowest quizzes.
HE'S A CHALLENGING PROFESSOR, BUT ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP. THERE IS A QUIZ FOR EACH CHAPTER (A TOTAL OF ~13). DEFINITELY NEED TO STUDY HIS NOTES AND FROM THE BOOK OR WEBSITE.
Dr. Oross was by far my favorite professor at Kutztown University. He is my advisor and I couldn't have asked for a better one. He is very intelligent and his classes are fairly easy as long and you read the chapters and go to class. He does not give tests just a quiz on 1 chapter at a time. Highly recommended!!!
Horrible teacher for this class! The ONLY upside is that theres no textbook but i wish there was one for a change.8"quizzes"short answer(wants you to answer in at least 4 sentences)if your answer is in line 5 he marks it wrong.Wants you to think broad and then specific.he's just too confusing the class is unfair,EVERYONE in it hates his teaching!
Oross does well explaining ideas and has us do a lot of homework and quizzes to get better. I think he is a great teacher but you really have to work in this class. Half of class is doing well and half are not. I think if you do the work (read, look at notes, do homework, come to class) you can do well.
Smart guy, teaches very well but sometimes info overload because he's knows what he's teaching inside out :)
he acts like you are kindergarteners
WOW! You have to really work in his classes - attend, read book - study. I am learning a lot but I have not worked this hard in college before. His constant quizzes and other assignments instead of tests forces you to keep up with material by studying every day. I guess this is what upper level courses expect.
Very interesting class with lots of information to learn. He keeps you moving with almost daily quizzes (before and after discussing chapter). Seems to want us to do well but he certainly is not easy. I am reading every day and doing good. I know people who are not reading and they are not doing well.
He is a very nice man but he is HARD. Don't ever take him for 2 classes in 1 semester, you will have something due every class. He really wants to help and people to pass but he is a hard grader and these is A LOT of information and you cannot pass without reading the books for his classes.
I'm really enjoying this class. Dr. Oross is a TEACHER. That's what he does, he teaches. He's not looking to be your best bud (although he's very nice), he just wants you to learn the material and if you care about the class, you will learn and come out of it smarter than you went into it. I've learned so much since the beginning of the semester!
Do not take Oross if you want to get an A or B, becuase it most likely wont happen. Getting a C is lucky because grades so hard without any direction to what he's looking for. His tests are unfair and are rushed. There are too many questions for his tests in a 50 minute period, plus "short answer".. Ha impossible to do well!
I'm barely passing with a low D. Most of the class is doing horrible. He is very nice and knows his stuff, but tests are ridiculous! Quiz every week on material we havent learned yet. Wouldnt reccomend unless you plan to devote your entire life to this one class.
Oross teaches and wants us to read, think, and study. This is what we are here for. Students who don't want to read the book or study will get the grade they deserve. I am glad he is willing to fail students who do not work at learning.
I enjoyed the class but if you don't study, don't expect to pass the class. A lot of reading, but it is very helpful. Nice guy too, but what irks me is that he NEVER hands back the grades when he says he is going to.
He is a professor who is willing to help you but wants you to work toward learning. I liked the class, learned a lot about physio psy, and learned about why someone interested in counseling needs to learn about the brain and nervous system. Not the easiest prof but one who helps you learn if you try.
I LOVED THIS CLASS..the material was actually interesting and Oross did a very good job and making even the very difficult stuff very clear. The quizzes can be difficult but if you read the chapter and look over the slides you will do fine! I recommend him!
The worst psych professor ever. He gives you all this work and expects us to do it when he never grades anything or puts up any information in time. He gives us 4 papers one being 10 to 12 pages. 3 exams on notes and the text which are parallel not the same. And his teaching style is all lecture. He may be knnow his stuff but he cant teach.
He is probably the worst professor I have ever had in the Psychology department. He is a intelligent man, but not when it comes to Histroy and Systems. Reconsider when you are picking classes !!!
Oross is trying to get this class to think. Too many Psychology students think they should be presented with facts, and then asked questions that require the exact retelling of these facts. Oross's questions make us think about the implications of the facts and the relationship between different sets of facts. Not everybody wants to work this hard
OK, so he is a very nice guy. And he will work with you...however. DO NOT take him if you have a heavy course load, because this class is NOT easy. Quizzes every week, which feel more like tests. Also, you have to study A LOT, and his 'short answers' are extremely hard to get full points for. Never gets things graded on time. Frustrating class.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!! because a.) he NEVER hands things back, b.) he is absent most of the time, and with a lab and quiz due once a week it gets very messy and complicated which leads me to c.) due to his significant amount of absences we never fully go over all of the material, making the quizzes impossible to take.
He's a great professor and a really nice guy but with most upper level psychology courses, you really need to work hard. He's very helpful and he wants to make sure everyone understands the material. Highly recommend!
very nice guy, but do not take. this class is VERY HARD. Tests are very hard, over half my class has a D. He never hands things back, has been absent 8 times. I understand but dont expect so much if your going to cancel class once a week. Hard grader, doesnt curve at all. I study alot, read, attended every class and im struggling to pass.
Class was interesting but different. He expected us to read text to get details and to reinforce big ideas. Class discussion focused on considering factors that led to new schools of thought and then identifying their strenghts and weakeness. He also explained why understanding the history of schools of thought will be important for our futures.
After reading the previous reviews, I am left thinking...is this the same Stephen Oross?!? Yes, there are quite a few pop quizzes but they are not what I consider "difficult". He has also handed back every assignment so far in a timely manner. Recommended!
Professor Oross is a very nice professor, and genuinely wants his students to do well. Physio is a very hard class in general, but if you read the textbook and his notes, you should be okay. Although it's hard to get an A, a B is attainable if you do the work and study. He is always available to go to him if you need extra help, too
He expects you to study 6+ hours a week for a three credit class. Quizes every week. Tests are stupid hard. Doesnt realize he is not the only class we are taking. Really nice person, but horrible teacher. Doesnt let you finish taking notes and rushes through them. YOU MUST TEACH YOURSELF DIRECTLY FROM THE BOOK OR FAIL. No other way to put it.
Says attendance is not mandatory it is. Class has D average. Words things tricky to try to trip you up, makes the class way harder, doesnt stick to his own syllabus, this class is not a psy class its more a biology course and as such they need a biology prof to teach this, not him. Worse teacher in KU but they wont allow anyone else to teach it!
The facts - attendance required for extra credit and for taking quizzes not otherwise, posts grades all semester, end of semester class average is mid C, MUST read book AND posted notes, course does have biology BUT that is nature of psychology, will work with students but will not give out high grades easily, nice but not buddy buddy
Easily my least favorite professor at Kutztown. Cancels class and assignments a lot. Goes over the power points way too fast in class so you cant take notes. Is not fair with his grading at all. And he never ever grades your assignments in a fashionably manner. You definitely need the textbook to pass his exams. Only the text is on the exam.
Worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life. Does not teach, does not follow the syllabus, gives so much work but does not explain it at all, he's completely useless. Attendance is not mandatory but don't bother going because you won't learn anythin. Buy the textbook because you will have to teach yourself if you want to pass this course.
Worst professor. Would send him multiple emails and not receive one back, doesn't post grades until months after they were due, and never sticks to the syllabus. I was really was into the class in the beginning but when he stopped caring its hard to keep up interest.
Worried about failing this class every single week. Tests were online and he threw a fit when he found out students were using the textbook for them. It's physics meets psychology and that's just not fun. I would say avoid him but it's required as a psych major to take one of the two classes only he teaches. (insert heavy sigh)
By far one of the worst classes I have ever taken. Don't waste your time. Take it with someone who cares. It is 3 weeks after the semester ended and I have no idea why I received the final grade that I did because about half of the grades are still not posted. Doesn't reply to emails. Doesn't follow the syllabus. Gives an unnecessary amount of work
Listen he is not going to baby you. He's going to push you in his classes. He assigns reflective essays for each chapter and videos. However, he makes you think about material in your own way. He's a tough grader and his tests can be tricky. But he is a great guy is always willing to help you if you ask for it. His goal is for you to do well.
Great professor, makes topics interesting, tries to get student's to contribute their thoughts. Be ready though because you must work for grades.
if you don't read the book thoroughly you will fail!! The material on his tests is 80% book based. The amount of info from his lecture that is actually on the test is 30%. I did NOT like his teaching style at all. I basically had to teach myself everything because he barely covers the material. Personally I dont recommend him
Do the work like we know we should be doing. and that he demands, and you will learn so much.
He is the man. Smart, thoughtful but also pushes and pokes to keep you working. Not easy like others but I think worth it because he teaches about more that the class. He also helps you put the ideas from different courses together.
As a Psychology major, and as others have posted, I had to take this professor. I have also had him once before. He stopped grading assignments half-way into the semester and I had no idea my grade until it was officially posted. As others have said, his tests are insanely hard and worded very poorly. I would not recommend this for anyone.
Student debate this professor. I loved him - presented Ideas that forced me to learn. His responses were honest and direct, not always easy to hear. Always willing to discuss how to improve my grade. If you did not do work or tried to lie to him he could be rough. I noticed a couple grades posted late at end when grades already mostly determined.
You will not pass if you don't read the book and go to class. Class is a lot of work and you really have to work for your grade. He assigns papers without any clear description of what he wants but is very picky when grading so you're lucky if you get a good grade. Don't take him unless you absolutely have to
tests are so hard. if you don't read the book you wont do well on the tests. most of the material comes from book and isn't even covered in class. basically have to teach yourself from the book. class averages on tests were in the D and low C range and he doesn't curve because he believes "everyone can get an A" but very few people actually do
Amazing teacher without a doubt. Took him for sensation as well as health psych and was close to an A for both. Read the book and listen to his lectures and you'll pass. VERY INSPIRATIONAL with his lectures. Never boring. You learn a lot from him. Pop quizzes are also given during sensation and perception.
Unfortunately as a psych major sensation and perception or physiological psych are required and Oross is the only one who teaches it. He started out grading things in a decent amount of time and now its been over a month since he graded some things. He does not give rubrics or explain what he wants.
I got an A. He wants students to be responsible for keeping up on assignment deadlines, reading book, and importantly critically evaluating ideas. Must ask questions and think creatively about topics he introduces.
Dr. Oross is a caring person, funny and wanting to get to know all students. However, he can be very frustrating in class. I took him 2x and he cancels many assignments, classes, and rushes through PowerPoints (Yes, they are given) which limits knowledge for exams. STUDY OR YOU WILL NOT PASS! Read and re-read chapters many times, and go over notes.
The way he runs the course students must read in advance to get some general understanding then use more reading along with class notes and other resources (videos and recent news stories).to dig deeper to improve understanding. You will not be able to develop of understanding with one night of studying. Worked for me once I followed the plan.
Unfortunately, KU pretty much makes you take one of his courses if youre a psych major. Make sure to be prepared to read the book or you will not pass. Almost all of the material comes from the text, and his lectures are so boring and dry that theyre useless anyway. He also barely grades, so you have no idea where your grade stands.
I had him for sensation and perception and I thought he was an amazing professor. There were a lot of papers, one every week, but they were always interesting topics so they were easy to write. Youll need to read a lot and study your ass off to get a good grade. Also, I recommend using his slides along with the text book to study.
Dr. Oross can be tough, but he makes you think and is fair. His courses aren't meant to be a breeze, they're meant to help you grow. If you'd rather truly grasp something from your learning experience at KU I highly recommend trying one of his courses.
Lots of work - reading text, reviewing other materials, studying complex handouts (slides) and then contributing to class discussion. Weird thing is I think he is really getting us ready for next stage in career (grad school or other). I believe he does want us to do well in class, but he thinks it is less important than preparing for next step.
Gives a lot of little quizzes but you always know when they are and they are easy grade boosters. Exams are somewhat hard, but he is a really good professor and willing to help if you ask. He also is able to help if you have questions about graduate school/internships.
He's a great professor. He's super knowledgable and gives many opportunities for grades. He has 2 quizzes each week, but as long as you keep up with the slides and notes you'll do fine. The tests are challenging but he's a great guy who genuinely cares for his students. and their grades. He will do everything he can besides do the work for you.
Dr. Oross is a great professor. He's really kind, but I think he may just spread himself a little too thin. This is my second time taking him, and we received no grades the whole semester... Very hard to pinpoint your grade when there is no feedback. He's very helpful and knowledgable but, just the way the class is run is a little frustrating.
AVOID AS ADVISOR & PROFESSOR. Says most of the class will finish with a C. Tests are ridiculously hard & you have to deeply study his long lectures & the textbook. Very slow grader. Very disorganized. Want an email back? Good luck with that. Knowledgeable man but clearly tired of caring about his students & teaching. Quizzes were easy - only pro.
He is okay ,I would take him again. However he is very disorganized, for example he just announced we have an exam the literal day before the exam. We only have access to 1 out of the 3 slides we need to study for the exam. He said he would post them 2 weeks ago and is saying he is going to post it. today. the literal day before an exam.
Ok, so he is a really sweet professor (lovely person). Very disorganized, cancels class TOO MUCH, does not update you on grades until halfway through semester, and his tests are ridiculous. The way he rewords the questions is impossible, I understand this a required class but there is no reason to make a course YOU NEED TO PASS this difficult.
He cancels class a lot. He isn't realistic about his grading abilities. He says he'll have the tests graded a day or two after you take it but its really 2 to 3 weeks after. He says he's going to post a test by 2pm but posts it by 4pm or later. He has these papers do almost every week but has not graded a single one and its the end of the term.
BE WARNED most frustrating professor. Never responds to emails. Never grades anything. Never posts anything on time. Super unorganized. Cancels class A LOT. Expects you to do everything correct while he doesn't give you any feedback. Nice guy. Bad professor, at least with his online classes.
Worst professor I have ever had. Does not answer emails. He said he shouldve turned the class over to someone else but didnt. The due dates were so inconsistent and there is 4 days left in the semester and there are no grades posted. He has many health issues and just doesnt have the time to be a good professor.
DO NOT TAKE!! He does not have time to be teaching classes at all. He had papers due every single week and we still havent gotten grades for them. It took him 3 weeks to get our grades back for the 1st exam & still no grades for the 2nd exam. He does not respond to emails. He would tell us on zoom he would post something after class and never did.
Have had him for both S&P and Health Psych online. Very interesting guy and nice, but should not be teaching. Cancels class very often with little notice, takes forever to grade, very hard to get a hold of, and his tests are a little tough. If you do take him just be prepared to learn independently and study often.
He waited until literally the last day of the semester to grade everything for the class and entered random grades in because hes running out of time. I know I did very good on my second exam and he gave me (and multiple other classmates) a failing grade. Dont take him, he makes excuses all the time for lack of organizational skills.
He's a great guy, just is not well suited to be an online professor. Grade review was due on Dec 15th, and it is currently the 20th, and no grades are in yet. He takes forever to answer emails, if he even does. He makes you do a paper for each chapter of the book, which is insane to me. But attendance was not mandatory. Make sure you read the book.
This class is REQUIRED for a psychology major. He hasn't graded a REQUIRED class NOR updated us on when/if he will post grades. He failed to respond to emails all semester and never adequately gave updates on changes to the schedule listed on the syllabus. He never gave us the same level of commitment he expected. I would not recommend him.
This has been my worst professor BY FAR! Maybe hes better in person but if you have to take his classes online DONT DO IT!! He doesnt grade anything. Grades were due on December 15th. He said they would be submitted and posted by the registrar on the 17th or 18th. Its currently the 21st and no grades and no update! TERRIBLE!!
It is currently December 27th and I dont know my grade for the class that I took in the FALL.
He is not a bad professor, being online made it tougher. Grades still are not in yet, but has exceptional reasons as to why we do not have grades yet. Loves his students dearly and will help them to the best of his ability. Exams are tough, but they are not supposed to be easy. Study, do your assignments on time and participate and you will be fine
If I could give a zero then I would. Please do not take this professor. He has not followed the schedule or graded anything yet and he barely contacts the class. We went a month and a half of him not uploading anything on D2L or emailing us to tell us what is going on. Contacted the chair of psy and no help either of course. Very stressful.
Everything was running according to schedule and weekly content was posted as promised until February. All of a sudden for weeks at a time he would say he was going to post the new chapters and give us nothing. He doesn't respond and when he does it's a short and rude answer. Do not recommend
Super disorganized, he lacked any sort of communication with us and did not grade material until the very end of term. I would avoid at all costs if I could.
Course is online but synchronous with cameras strongly encouraged to be on. Oross really knows this stuff and can make hard topics from the book easier to understand with lectures. I find interesting that he goes beyond neuroscience to relate work to counseling. I did not expect this from the class.
Nice guy, definitely knows his stuff. However, the class is very stressful because he never grades your assignments, so you don't know how you are doing in his class. He also says he will post assignments but never does so you are stuck waiting for him to post them at inconvenient times. If you like to stay organized, this class makes it hard.
Decent professor who truely cares for the material taught BUT has many health issues that interferes with getting work done. Had to consistently move assignments due dates around due to sudden doctor appointments and sicknesses.
He is doing amazing things for disability rights at KU!
Funny guy who really knows what he's talking about. Kind of drones on during lectures, and the zoom format doesn't help with paying attention, but he's pretty nice. Gives you 2 Life Happens Passes to turn in stuff late with no explanation. Weekly chapter papers and quizzes, though. Overall not bad if you attend, take notes, and read.
This class included chapter quizzes and reflections, and a midterm/final. Grades weren't submitted until the last minute so I had no idea what I had in the class until the end. I found his lectures really boring and I ended up teaching myself through the textbook which worked out for me. Definitely not my most favorite prof but he's fine i guess
This is a hard course. His lectures are interesting. A bit technical. Grades come from multiple assignments but he grades hard. I had a high D, low C before I talked to him about studying. He gave me a lot of ideas and I have moved my grade up to a B so far. I like the course but he is the hardest psychology professor because he expects so much.
He was incapable of shutting his mouth but never about the actual content of the class but his sad miserable life. For an online class participation is graded HEAVY! Too bad I did not sue KU and win or I would have aced the class without signing in! For someone who hates KU so much he sure does love the paycheck! Wish they could fire him!
Tough grader, couldn't which open ended/multiple choice questions you got wrong but yelled at us when our open ended responses weren't up to his standards. Can't improve if we cant see what we got wrong. Homework quizzes per chapter that were time consuming but given little points for them. Participation matters even though talked the whole time.
Yes, he does have a lot of health issues that interferes with class however, he makes up for it and will always let you know what's going on as long as you're in class. He knows what he's talking about and relates to things is real life
Professor is knowledgeable but can be disorganized. Lots of assignments like weekly papers and quizzes, but unclear grading. unstuckstudy helped me stay on top of the work. Overall, the class is doable if you're diligent.
I am a senior and this is the worst class I have taken. I haven't learned about health psychology since he spends every class period complaining about his personal life. He cancels with no plans and never updates when he says he will. He grades long answers very harshly, does not post feedback, and was very rude when I asked him about it.
His zoom lectures are so lecture heavy and grades especially hard on participation when there are very few opportunities to participate. Likes to express his political opinion A LOT and it gets annoying and tiresome.
He constantly changes the schedule and then does not follow it. He does not post exams when he says he will and will throw off plans. He does not grade and does not add assignments he says he will. His exams have too many essay questions that he does not give feedback on.
avoid avoid avoid. his zooms are so hard to follow and mandatory. it is finals week, and he has two grades in and hasn't graded something from the first week. he posts exams late and they are full of uncovered content. he is a very kind man, and responds to questions, but the class is literally like a pre-med class, not psychology at all. horrible!
The class average for participation was so low because he talks the entire time and gives no chances. He has no rubrics for grading participation or exam questions. He is knit picky for no reason.
I personally loved this class. Dr. Oross does a great job at getting people to participate which is hard with an online class. Great individual from every interaction I've had with him.
Horrible. He graded so hard and he would use such extravagant words on the test to mess you up. You absolutely have to participate or he will give you a bad participation grade. Which coming from someone who hates talking in class it is horrifying. His lectures are very boring. Even when reading the book the tests are confusing.
I feel like I didn't learn anything about health psychology because he made every lecture about himself. Attendance was mandatory which felt useless because it was all about his personal life. He expects a lot of flexibility and understanding but did not give the same to me
Great professor! He was very heavy on getting students to participate, but that's because his course is online, he was only asking for respect. He also uses an online platform, which I didn't necessarily enjoy; however, the workload is manageable.
I had him for 3 courses and in all he required you to carefully read the textbook, participate in discussions, and listen to lectures that went beyond the textbook. Lectures were detailed, interesting, and addressed complicated topics. He expects you to work and to have thought about topics to do well. Some students do not want to work this much.
