He is an awesome teacher, very nice course. I really enjoyed his lectures.
Amazing Prof
Good guy but talksTOO MUCH about being a cop talk about being a psychlogist too
Great class. Lots of knowledge and good sense of humour. Also very approachable.
Clear, friendly...but gives rather large surprises on exams. ie: Depthy questions not found in study guide
i had Perrot for 3 classes, excellent proff, only classes i didn't ever fall asleep in. His talking about being an ex-cop and clinical psychologist is interesting and relates to the course!
Awesome stories, fascinating discussion, nice guy.
Excellent prof. Lectures very interesting
Great prof. He is fair and very interesting. Make sure you go to class because he WILL ask guestions that are not in the book on the exam, but if you go to class you will know everything and do great.
Awesome Prof! He's quite busy, but will offer help when needed. Flies through lectures so learn to take notes quick, but overall one of the best profs i've had.
Pretty good. A bit of a stern personality, but he explains the material well.
Friendly guy; easy to talk to; gives many explanations for one point; sometimes can talk too much (which can get a little boring); is always late for class, so be prepared to stay later than the scheduled class time; tests have some tricky questions.
He's great! He's very fair, helpful, and makes classes interesting.

Great prof, I never got to meet him b/c I did my course over distance (video) but he's very clear, kept my attention, and kept me interested throughout the course. He makes new theories easier to learn with interesting anectodes and analogies.
Not only are his classes boring he is rude and not helpful at all. Don't expect constructive criticism cause he refuses to back up any comments he gives you. You better figure out his opinion cause that is the only think he likes to hear.
Not as good as he was in abnormal...
He always used examples from his own experience, which made the class much more interesting. It also made difficult topics easier to understand.
i had no problems with him
I was excited about taking this class before it started. I heard many awful things about this professor but decided to ignore them and give him a chance. I should have listened. He was boring and difficult to follow. He was uncompassionate towards any student problems. In some cases, just mean.
I had parrot for 3 psyc classes, trust me he is one of the best/most interesting psyc proff's at MSVU. He is a fair but hard marker. Class gets off topic, but really, just memorize the text (skip if you want).
teaches right from the text book - need I say more?
Tough but fair. He's definatly not the guy to go to with a sob story, but he's fair in his marking.
Dr.Perrot was a great teacher, and when he's happy so is everyone else. but he's also one of those really smart teachers that its impossible to argue with. plus his examples were really funny and relevant! i totally recommend him.
Perrot rules...his background in police work really helps him with good examples, hes a funny guy if you give him the chance.
I'm a self professed Perrott fangirl. I hunt classes he teaches just to take them. He's the best professor I've ever had. I recommend him to anyone.
He's my favorite teacher so far in psychology!!!
egotistical jerk who does not practice what he preaches.
Love this prof. He's very helpful. took him by distance, so most of our communication was over web ct - always fast in responding... always enjoyed his lectures and I liked how he incorporates lots of real life examples, makes the material easier to remember.
Very hard to deal with, very hard multi able exams, looking for tiny mistakes in assignment, DO NOT TAKE WITH THIS GUY
Seems like a nice guy. Very disoganized though. Tests are fairly easy and no assignments. If you want kind of an easy ride with a guy who doesn't require a lot or put alot into his course then go for it. Beware...you must be interested in Africa and police work.

Disorganized and unfocussed. Absent and unapproachable. I wonder what will happen to my future now. My life plans have changed. I was excited about psychology for the longest time. Now, I want to change my major. The lab tech and other teachers are great. Frustrating and a formal complaint supports this feeling. Stay away.
I've had this guy before and he was easy but not in a good way. No substance. Research Meth is different... here is just no good and really can't handle this kind of important course. I won't be satying with psychology. Thanks for nothing Dr. perrott.
I had Perott before too. Not very hard, straight out of the book and not very good at critical thinking. Presentations are straight from publisher. Not strong in stats or experimental projects. And, unfair grading becuase he makes many mistakes. Check your grades regularly and choose another prof.
Perrott is a good lecturer and seems very interrested in what he is talking about. Sometimes a bit too theoretical, not enough practical application. This is a hard class regardless who teaches it however He is very available to help. Don't expect to be babied along and if you have trouble with Perrott he is readily avail.
Dr. Perrott's a good prof. I think what some people call disorganization or lack of focus is really just granting students the dignity of autonomy over their own work. He focuses on salient points and allows students to address the mundane on their own time. Above all, he is extremely helpful and cares about the future endeavours of his students.
Sad, boring, egocentric excuse for a prof. I've had him for a few classes and had I the opportunity, wouldn't have. He doesn't respect others and only talks about policing or Africa. One trick pony....and once you've seen the trick once, you know the solution. He should be retiring soon, but stay away until if you can.
ha ha ha ...to the person who thinks his lack of preparedness is his way of giving autonomy... you are whacked! Dr. perrott does not realize that he is self-centered and does not 'tune in" to the rest of the world. He is only interested in things about HIM!! A classic BOOR.
Great Prof, no question. A little reminder to all the 1-givers: it's easy to criticize others for your own folly. Keep up the good work, Perrott.
I'm sure he can't possibly know that he is self-absorbed and monopolizes all conversations that you try to have with him about the course. He does not come prepared with a planned out course and is lazy. Another thing...did he write the last comment about one's folly??? sounds just like him. FGS
My favourite professor ever. I take whatever classes I can with him because he's actually interesting. He tries to relate the material to real life, which is apparently interpreted as being egotistical by some. If I can read a textbook on my own, I don't need a prof who just regurgitates what is written.
My favourite prof. I take whatever classes I can with him. He actually tries to relate material to real life, which includes his own life and apparently a lot of previous raters interpreted this as self-obsession. I can read a text book on my own, I don't need to go to lectures to have profs regurgitate the facts.
I have taken several courses with him, I have a personal fondness for him but do not do well in his classes, consistently my lowest mark. He is very disorganized but also very personable and approachable, you may not think it given his size but he is a kind person. Study off the textbook, his tests are tricky.
The people have spoken. Stay away. Look for other prof unless you want to waste money. Parrot is also unproffesional and talks loudly about other people when students are in the hall. It;s uncomfortable. I'm not going back.
Dr. Perrott is not a bad person, but he is a very bad teacher. The exams focused on material that was not discussed in class and seldom in the (useless) textbook. Waste of time.
worst prof I have had at the mount, hands down!
Awesome prof, knows his stuff and relates good to students. I look forward to taking another cource taught by him and would definitly recommend him as a prof ! (:
Dr. Perrott is a very nice guy, friendly and genuinely cares about his students. I really dislike his teaching style. He goes off on random tangents during class and because of this hardly covers any material at all. The tests are straight from the textbook, and so are his powerpoints - seems to have made them the night before. Very disorganized.
I've taken many of his courses and personally, I enjoy him! I love how he will mark the tests right in front of you afterward, if you're taking his course by distance. I think he's great!
I think people are forgetting that being a Prof is not a walk in the park. I can't imagine having that much work expected from me. Those people with negative comments should take his place for a day and maybe that would knock some sense into them. Dr. Perrott is a wonderful person and GREAT Prof. He truly cares about his students.
In my personal opinion, awful prof. I did not learn a thing from this classes...and consistently did poorly. Should have read the ratings prior to picking this (and other) courses with him....there goes the GPA!
Very easy prof who was very easy to contact. Tests were short and to the point. Liked to take most material from the text but also applied other experience to subject matter which lead to interesting class. Loves talking about being a former police officer a lot...
Clear prof, easy marker. Tests are short, clear, and to the point. No trick questions. Gives only one assignment, so work load is nonexistent. Very dedicated to helping students succeed. Really goes out of his way to help struggling students. Loves to talk about his life a lot but I found it helped me apply those examples to the material.
I found he was all over the place with this class. He even confused himself sometimes. He talked a lot about his research which was cool at first, but then was irrelevant. I found his assignments pretty tricky. But I loved that he would mark the tests right in front of you so you would see your mark before you left the room! Not an easy class.
He is really understanding, and he likes class discussions, even though they don't usually happen in my class. He puts everything online which is very helpful. I heard that you either like him or don't like him. I think he's a great proff. I will definitely take more of his classes.
I didn't enjoy this class because of his teaching style, he words his question very weird on exams and confuses you easily. He rambles in lectures and goes way off topic. Would not take a class from this professor again
Steve is fantastic. His lectures really help me remember how much I love psychology. He loves his anecdotes and spends the whole class telling stories, making it a welcome break for typical lectures. However, I think the best part about him, is that you can tell how passionate he is about psychology. That makes such a huge difference.
Dr. Perrott grades accordingly to the level course you are in. He is a tough marker but if you ask for help, he's 100% there to help, & will do everything in his power to help you understand the material. If you are going to slack off and expect to pass with a decent grade, don't take his classes but if you enjoy learning and work hard, he's great.
Perrot does not make any of his own material (i.e., lectures, midterms, and final), but rather gets the publisher of the textbook to do it for him. This results in the tests being completely obscure and impossible o pass unless you have read and memorized every piece of information in the book, which is large. Would never take one him again.
First off he is a very nice man, you can tell he cares about his students and is always there to help. His lectures can be somewhat confusing. He rambles a lot and gets off topic. Both of the midterms & exam are multiple choice. Hard questions he doesnt make them himself, found some were very confusing.. Easy marker on assignments.
Super nice guy but sometimes I felt that he just wanted a captive audience to listen to his stories. Interesting stories however many were not relevant . Very disorganised. Short tests. Student oral presentations are awful and everyone gets a high grade. I think he tries hard.
Professor Perrott presents much of the syllabus in an anecdotal manner. While powerpoint slides and assignments are used to disseminate class information; expect to hear many personal stories and memories to accompany his lectures. Some people do not enjoy this type of teaching method, but I find it makes it easier to remember class information.
Dr. Perrott is a really nice man however teaching isn't for him. He mainly reads from his slides (slides made by the book publisher) and tells stories. If he doesn't get time to cover it in class then he tells you to go home and learn it. He also uses test banks for exams and his exam questions don't always match up with the slides.
I haven't gone to a single class, from comments from peers I'm doing just as well, if not better than most the class. Stay home, read the textbook. Like the entire book! Powerpoint slides won't be helpful, they come from the textbook, as do his tests/exam questions- which are all mulpt choice. His one assignment was fairly easy, only 3 pages.
Avoid Dr. Perrott if you can. I literally learned just as much from reading the textbook for 1 hour than going to class for the week. He wastes so much class time rambling on about irrelevant things, and tells many stories about his personal life. All his tests come straight from the textbook, as do his powerpoints, which make little sense.
Great guy
He is a good professor. Sometimes the test content surprised me because it was not what I studied.
Stephen is a great man himself, you can tell he is super passionate about his work. Lectures are fun, and go by fast because he is a goof and tells lots of stories that correlate, however you do not need to go to the lectures to pass, memorise everything from the textbook, EVERYTHING, and you will get a decent mark. Hes a tough grader for papers.
Stephen is hilarious. You have to have an open mind in regards to different opinions to appreciate his personality. He follows the book to a tee. Tests are all multiple choice and super fair. Would recommend!
Stephen is a kind man and he cares about students & spends time in class trying to make dry content relatable by telling personal stories. Be warned: he expresses his "old school" personal views on LOTS of topics. Exams are MC & short answer and come straight from the textbook (remember the small details!). I would take a class with him again.
Dr. Perrott is a gentle giant . His lectures are interesting even when he gets off topic. He is a great prof and person. Please take his classes.
Perrott is an underappreciated gem and I've taken as many classes with him as I could. Though his tests are textbook based, go to the lectures anyway for his funny/inspirational/anecdotal stories. He's honestly such a kind man, even though some people misunderstand his opinions, and his heart is always in the right place.
Very hard marker
Worst prof Ive ever had, his marking is so unfair and his tests are also very hard and based solely on the most minute details in the textbook. Hes a GPA dropper, dont take him if you need a good grade. Im never taking him again and I would advise that you dont take him in the first place.
Great professor. Test's are challanging but fair if you study. Would reccomend
So... he is a bit of a tough grader. LOTS of tests, but thats the usual with PSYC classes. BUT he's a great guy, super funny and engaging class discussions. I would take his class, he's one of the better prof's at MSVU. Also understanding. Just study hard!!
Was nervous taking a course with Steve based on previous student feedback, but I'm glad I took courses with him. He is incredibly funny and kind. He may mark a little bit harder than others but this helps your future work improve. Lectures are a bit long sometimes but he has great stories to tell and has exceptional experience to help students!
Dr. Perrott quickly became one of my favourite psychology professors at the Mount. Even though showing up isnt mandatory, his classes help connect the material with real life situations. He is very accessible outside of class and an overall incredible prof. The tests are always MCQ and if you read the book, you will have no trouble in his class.
Lectures often are not on topic. I think his heart is in the right place but if you prefer not to pay for a class where the professor uses slurs, do NOT take this class.
I was excited about this class, but was really disappointed. Having this class in an auditorium does it a disservice. It would be much better in a classroom setting so you can have more discussion. Good luck with accommodations. Most of the work is on a website called Revel and you won't get any extensions.
At first I was very unsure. Generational gap makes some things come across iffy, but overall very interesting. He knows what he is talking about, and will be honest if he isn't sure. Has a lot of experience, and shares interesting stories. Overall interesting material, stories, and honestly if you are interested in psychology a must take course
Perrott's lectures are hard to follow, and he often goes off on tangents that, while psych related, have nothing to do with what we're meant to be covering in class. He seems like a nice enough guy, but he's made multiple comments through the semester that have left a bad taste in my mouth. Super frustrating as a professor.
Pr. Perrott's lectures comprise of personal antidotes or unrelated debates with students; neither of which prepare you for the tests in any way. You could skip a lot of classes and still pass the tests as long as you read the textbook, I think. Also, I would highly recommend NOT taking his class if you're someone who needs accommodations.
Dr. Perrott has a level of experience in the field that is very rare and he applies it to his lectures. He doesn't just repeat the textbook to you, but applies the concepts to his experiences working in the field. There are comments that he goes off-subject but what he "goes off" on is actually just applying what we are learning about.
