teacher who knows everything.Acutally grades by what you think. As if everyone is going to have the same interpretation in class. He says he supports unique ideas but his grading says otherwise. Also gives surprise quizes.People read the material and not necessarily study it for a test.Needs to get out more.5-7 page papers that are never good enough.
Great guy to get a laugh out of. So far he's a great guy to have for english's class. He really want his students to learn.
Talks and Talks and Talks... He's not strict...He's an ESL teacher so he doesnt expect anything out of you...and i think we did 3 papers? Easy A, and easy to fall asleep in his classes.
Easy. Interesting and Helpful.
amazing professor.
What a professor. I hated his grading system. What a BORING professor. Doesn't explains well in writing and teaching...Always brought up his family members. I like who the **** cares..Oh my goodness...Don't take his class..It's a waste of time...
This guy is terrible. He's so political. It's a waste of time taking this class. Always teach the same **** every class.
He was cool to me. Very helpful. Although sometimes a student would go off on a tangent and wouldn't stop them or bring them back to the task at hand. But overall he is a good teacher.
He's very motivated, likes his job, helpful and committed. Competent and informative, also interesting and humorous teacher. Made us laugh a lot. Sometimes disorganized, but class-time was always used to the fullest benefit of students. If you are serious student, you will like him and ESL 116 class.
Excellent teacher, helpful and interesting.
As an instructor, he is eloquent and approachable; also, he has a nice personality and does everything in his power to make you succeed. His only flaw is course organization and somewhat too high workload and course objectives that he defines. Overall, Pierson is more than average professor, who makes writing an enjoyable task.
He is very motivated, likes his job, helpful and committed. He is interesting and humorous teacher. Made us laugh a lot. Sometimes disorganized, but class-time was always used to the fullest benefit of students. If you are serious student, you will like him. In class he talks about words & breaks them down. He has the students read aloud.
Took this class online during the summer. Very easy just do your assignments. Did not use all of the books. I would recommend this class/teacher to anyone!!
GREAT teacher! He's very helpful and motivating. Hot, too.
He is really bad=((((( All the good stuff that is on his wall it' s something what he is doing instead of checking quiz papers....always late grades, always not prepared for the class.....doesn't do his job.....
Very hard, complicated and overloading.
He's very good for ESL students, is interesting and motivating. Lectures are dynamic and interactive. He expects a lot and tries to help you, but sometimes he doesn't understand difficulty you might have. He will send you to Writing center, but they will help you even less. He gives too much work, but his love for art and literature is contagious.
he doesn't do his job, he try to be funny, but that is not his job, and he missing the points and the grades. %75 off the class about his history and his family... don't take any class with him.
This guy has no concept of how online classes should really work. He is WAY behind in grading, and modules rarely open/close on time. Drop boxes routinely disappear, and he is incommunicado for days on end. Rarely answers email in a timely manner. Skip his class and take another one.
I thought his class was EXTREMELY easy. If you put ANY effort into your previous high school english classes, you'll do fine. He rarely grades papers in a timely matter causing due dates to get pushed back and is hard to get a hold but his online class was VERY easy. 3 papers, a discussion here and there, and then a one question t/f quiz.
Very clear with expectations. Willing to work with students and compromise due to personal situations. Fair grading, gives constructive criticism. Students should have no problems succeeding in his class if they put in the effort.
Really helpful and conveys his thought clearly
Professor Pierson is one of my favorite professors to date. The material can feel overwhelming, especially if its been a while since your last English class, but he goes out of his way to help. Always begins with a kind word, and criticism is always constructive. Loved him.
This was a hard class but overall I am definatly more confident in my writing. Also the professor was very helpful.
This class required alot of effort but it was well worth it. This class help stimulate the mind and that is what I loved most about it. It was easy but the directions were very clear and the professor was very helpful.
Prof. Pierson was a great teacher. I took his online course during the summer and not only does he promptly answer questions, he is also forgiving with his grading as long as you put in effort. It's time consuming but worth it, you will learn a lot from him.
Extremely unprofessional as he complained about being overwhelmed multiple times. Completely unorganized and poor communication. He changed the original course work during the semester without notification. Never grades assignments in a timely manner. I would not reccommend this instructor. I certainly expected much more, and so should the college.
Unorganized, always late with grades. Would not take his class again
Grades too harshly and doesn't really give any feedback on why he gave you that grade. Never grades papers on time. He didn't even know when the essays were supposed to be due. The way he taught was incredibly boring, I had to force myself to even show up. Doesn't help that we do basically the same thing every single class. Would avoid.
He's one of those professors where a 100 is a one in a million. Grades harshly and his responses back suck. Overall the class is easy though.
His modules online are very confusing, but then when someone (or most of the class) gets confused he blames it on us and that it was "clearly" said somewhere else. Overall he is pompous, hypocritical, and thinks he teaches at Yale when he teaches at OCC.
Unbelievably bad professor. Expect to wait over a week for an e-mail response, several weeks for grades. He grades hard with no explanation. This man thinks he teaches at Harvard and that every student wants to be a Lit major! He is arrogant and pompous. 21 days and still no grades, I asked why and was given a handful of excuses...again!
I feel that this class is extremely hard to take online. First of all the professor was very confusing when assigning homework and papers to write. He doesn't ever email back you email him for help and grades are very tough. The advice he gives does not help you better yourself. I do not recommend this teacher for this class.
i know this class is so hard, for sure whoever wants this class needs to spend 2-3 hrs a day for it to make worthwhile. otherwise no you can't pass, but i strongly recommend anybody for this class, coz u ll learn tons of things in a short time. only two paper for term and grading was fair. if u put effort, its a cake.
The worst class I have taken in 4 semesters. I am an A student. I worked hard! Expect to wait a week for an e-mail response and at least 3 weeks for a grade. He has excuse after excuse. He should teach a class on arrogance, he seems to think he teaches at Harvard.
He never check assignment nor open angel. Procrastination 100%. Not interesting class. Talk about personal belongings. No specific idea for improvement.
I am a ESL student and English Literature course is a challenging course for me but Dr. Pierson help me through to make it very simpler. He is generous and a great professor. This is my second course with him and i feel very lucky to have him as a professor. I would highly recommend to take his class. Thank you for you help and support Dr. Pierson
A second year English class that is not a simple as first year classes so may be challenging to those lacking strong English skills. The Professor knows the material very well and he teaches with a casual and democratic style that is engaging to all. Classes are pleasurable and seem to pass by quickly, yet each week you are learning new things.
I took this class during the summer. It was a fun class and we did use the textbook a lot for group presentations. However, I wish he would have gave us feedback on our assignments on time. It was a bit excruciating waiting to receive feedback. When taking the class, if he forgets to record points, let him know.
Took this class in the summer, and found it to be boring. You will need the textbook, so please buy it. The professor does not use Angel grading system, he has his own grading system. Returns work back late and does not give a second chance to redo assignments to help improve your grade.
Professor Pierson is a great professor, he teaches right materials, what students wanted and needed to know and always ready to help student understand fully the lesson. No doubt I would recommend him highly because of his knowledge and his friendly to students. I give him the highest rating of all.
If you are going to take class with him better find another professor. Always return paper late and barely gives comments on them. He promises one thing and will do another. Very unorganized professor at OCC. Always makes excuse for delaying to update grade or returning papers. I would never take his class again. He doesn't understand students.
Get out from his class right away. you won't learn anything.
Professor Pierson is one of the best teachers I've had up at OCC. This 203 World Lit class was amazing. He kept us laughing the entire semester and covered every topic perfectly. He really loves what he does and he shows it. Class is not difficult but it will indeed challenge you. Overall I loved the course. I definitely recommend him to all of you
Professor Pierson's class was very easy to me. I found that as long as you show up and do the readings you will be prepared for his pop quizzes and discussions on the readings. I found his lectures very insightful but most of the time the class will be speaking. Be advised that he is very busy and may take some time on grades. Very
while you have to be on top of your own points in this class, for accurate grade purposes, this class if a great learning opportunity and the professor is funny, very smart, and he will always help you. if you respect him, you will receive respect. this professor also never fails to somehow make this class interesting every class.
A fun and informative professor. Really helped me to elevate my critical thinking about literature, and help me improve my writing.
Hands down one of, if not the best professor at OCC. He makes class enjoyable and the readings addicting to read. Don't mistake his humor for an easy A, you will have to work for it, be on time and turn your work in and study and you'll do fine. He makes you want to learn and understand literature. You'd be crazy not to take his class.
He is the WORST teacher I have ever had. He is rude and extremely unhelpful. You will regret taking his class. GET OUT BEFORE IT"S TOO LATE!
loved this class because it made me believe I could handle college level reading and writing. clear instructions given for each paper and step-by-step writing process taught with lots of feedback along the way. Also Prof connects literature to life in interesting ways.
Took this world lit class as requirement but it proved awesome! great vibe thanks to prof's humor, knowledge and making sure everyone's on board. much better reader and writer now because of this class and doubled my vocabulary. also liked how prof Pierson didnt politicize the class after the election, unlike other OCC profs!
Professor Pierson is awesome. Readings and lectures are enjoyable and interesting, and he makes the hardest material incredibly easy to grasp. Alternating group presentations and lectures kept things interesting. Clear expectations and assignments. Liked applying literary ideas to film. Take this class to become a better reader and writer.
Definitely take this class especially if you're unsure about taking online class for first time coz everything is laid out clearly and readings are diverse and interesting. class discussions were worked as equivalent of facet to face class and writing assignments were clear and reasonable length, with lots of feedback. interesting class really!
I took this class as I already had a full schedule and I thought and Online class would work better... NO! I was very wrong. Professor Pierson gives little to no feedback before final essays. When you ask questions he is quick to send you to someone else with your question. Gives little instruction for papers and the papers are confusing and hard.
Dr. Pierson is a very generous professor. He made multiple accommodations for students so they could pass and allowed for a large portion of extra credit. There were times when he even gave the class a passing grade on the test to make up for a recording mistake he made.
This professor was the only reason I didn't get a 4.0 this semester, worked my butt off and only received a B in his class. Extremely tough grader and is very vague when it comes to telling you his expectations and when giving feedback. Would not recommend taking his class online. Horrible! Take it with someone else.
Nice prof who knows his stuff and is funny for an older guy. Everyday class wrote and presented their short pieces on the readings and got helpful feedback-- but no one was forced to read. Prof. Piersons read his short essays when no one else wanted to and this was cool too. Great lit class for improving reading and writing.
my first online class at OCC or anywhere-and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great selection of readings and a clear instructions and feedback. Never knew there was a writing process for writing a college level essay; best surprise of all. I'm ready to write on any college topic. thanks prof. Piersons!
He makes you work for your grade. He will find a way for you to pass but his class doesnt make a lot of sense. If youre just trying to pass English, hes a good choice.
Professor Pierson is absolutely brilliant person, he is caring and actually wants you to succeed in life, not just in his class. You will learn how to break 100s of words apart and how to annotate the heck out of everything, his class is tough and sooooo much reading but he is a great man who wants the best from you and for you.
The whole semester I have had nothing but problems with this Prof. Miss one class Missing a quiz, which will go into the grade book as a zero. Unorganized, and is not afraid to basically call you stupid. Unapproachable, and trust me, staff is not a fan of this man either.
Nice prof who will work with you if you're a serious which isn't hard coz the lectures are friggin awesome! Lots a lot of reading and writing but essays can based on in-class writing and he will offer you advice during office hours. Miss a quiz and doubles your next quiz score. Seemed organized, knowledgeable and friendly to me.
Prof. Pierson is amazing! The readings came straight from the textbook so you can't skip it. The entire course is based on the readings and your analysis of them, so don't bother with his class if you don't read. Very open to debate in class, but be warned that he won't go easy on you. Super knowledgeable and fun to talk to if you like literature.
Professor Pierson will make you work for your grade, and you better know how to put together a paper. He's not the easiest, but you'll learn how to write better. The material he uses is a mix of politics, dystopian fiction and controversial at best. Overall, he's not too bad. Organized and reasonable.
No response to emails or blackboard messages. Poor guidance. Unclear feedback. No revision advice even though he says in the syllabus he will give it to you. No chance for resubmission on assignments when he didn't give you the revision advice you were promised in the first place? This is not how an online course should be handled.
Best teacher
I was one of his students for Eng 104, summer class in 2019. I really like his thorough reading, positive advice, and good grading on each every one of my essays throughout the course. I really have improved a lot my reading and writing skills by attending his class. Great instructor!
Thanks prof Piersons. I am so confident now about going into 103.
I got an opportunity to take Professor Pierson's English class. Although I am an ESL student, but he made it really easy for me to do well in his class. Dr. Pierson knows a thing or two when it comes to American Literature. He's very supportive, caring, hilarious and inspiring. Please take his class, you won't regret!
Amazing Lectuer and a great teach to all class.
Amazing lectuer and very good teach to all class.
IT IS HARD TO GET "GRADE A" IN HIS CLASS.
his not serious, and he talk the something and he does behind you different, and he did not read all essays, he read just one and he gives other essays B grade or B- grade without reading.
I liked him as a prof. He grades fairly however he can be a little hard to get in touch with, he is busy I'm sure. He wasnt my fav but is def far from the worst. It is fairly easy to do well in his class and theres no reason not to take him as a prof. Would recommend just give him awhile to respond to emails and you'll do fine.
fantastic teacher. I'm looking forward to taking my next semester class with him
He talks a lot, and will often go over the time youre supposed to end. Its not obvious but hes pretty stubborn about his beliefs and theyre a bit conservative. He was a little confused of the content so we were as well, but we made it through. Passionate guy though and he does know his english/history. Youll learn a lot but it gets annoying.
Pierson is very dedicated to his teachings, you can tell the topics intrigue him. He isnt too strict and offers plenty of assistance and advice. A lot of critiquing each other is required. You will discuss your essays and find ways to improve for the final drafts. There are three writing projects throughout. Film and articles to read, not bad.
Excellent!
Prof Pierson is an amazing prof and cares deeply for all students. He looks for success with everyone and wishes to see no one fail. Any question you have he is happy to answer and help you. I would 110% take his course again if I could and I suggest everyone do the same. He keeps his opinions and beliefs to himself which profs should learn to do.
Enjoyed this class .. really easy , he picked some really good subjects to write about, which made writing papers easy. He also breaks down the reading material so you can understand what your reading a lot clearer
Professor Pierson was great for the most part. Very insightful, professional, and cordial. Only downside is that he is a little disorganized and takes a while to grade. He's a lenient grader. If you decide not to attend a lecture, keep up with the readings via the syllabus. Don't go on your phone in his class as he will take off points. Good class.
I was kinda shocked ENG 250 Voices of Diversity was going to be taught by a white cis male but ultimately it was cool, coz Prof. Pierson's cool, and fair. Writing/reading journals was lit, and Piersons knowledge of literature is deep! Best was most students were quite comfortable debating the issues that came up in discussions. Friendly vibe...
I feared this class and always hated English, but Prof. Pierson is amazing and very helpful in the classroom and office hours. I plan to take more classes with him. He is a very good teacher, and will give you a strong appreciation and love of reading and writing!
nooooooo
Pretty difficult but straight forward online class and i ended up learning a lot about writing generally and about literature. I'm going to crush english 104!
Dr Pierson is a god amongst mortals. His class has changed my life as well as the lives of my family and my future children. He is an outstanding teacher and he is very passionate about certain topics concerning literature. He loves his grammar and his long lectures but at the very least he is inspiring. Dr Pierson for turns water into wine.
