Interesting topic, but he presents it in the most boring way imaginable. His power points go word for word with the book; so you could skip class and just do the reading and be fine. The study questions he gives are exactly what his tests are like. Easy grade, but boring!!!
Really dry and boring but he does have a sense of humor and he is funny. He needs to apply it more to his teaching. Very basic teacher, 4 multiple choice exams, drop the lowest. They are 100 questions. Very very clear on what is expected to pass these tests it's in his lectures and the book, it may be boring but better than a confusing teacher.
He is a very boring teacher with his death by powerpoint but he brings humor in quite a bit with his knowledgeable teaching style. I would say I enjoyed the material more than him as a professor. I never went to class and read the textbook and got an A! I would recommend Dr. Russell to anyone who doesn't mind teaching themselves and reading alot.
Easy A. You don't need the book. Attendance is not mandatory, but I suggest going to his class only for the lectures. Class is once a week anyway. The power points are what will be on the test and he drops the lowest grade. Class can be dry and boring but he is very knowledgeable and can be humorous sometimes.
This was an online class. Extremely Easy A. You don't necc. need book b/c he uses power point w/ all material. I would take him again. I was able to complete all the materials before the time frame for the class to end. Study quizzes and past exams for FINAL.
I took Prof Russell's online classes for both Social Psych & Abnormal Psych. The online class is set up in a simple manner that helps avoid common tech confusion. I enjoyed his classes & would recommend him. He posts powerpoints & a 10 Q quiz at the end of each CH. It's very helpful in truly understanding & remembering the material for the exams.
Clear, organized, BUT BORING! Doesn't seem interested in teaching, just reads from his comments to the slides. Tests- multiple choice, cumulative final, very easy, straight from the book. If you read the book no need to come to class, just show up for exams. Would not take again even though super easy.
Took him online for Abnormal Psych and Social Psych. SUPER EASY! EASY A! Never once looked at any book. He posts the lecture slides. Everything else can be Googled. Take him online if you can!
I've taken several of prof Russell's online courses. I took his Child Psych class on campus though during the evening 1x/week. Tells some funny stories. Does well to hold student's attention for a really long period of time. Is willing to help if you ask. Overall is one of the better profs I've had here & is kind / considerate.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! the work load is ridiculous & he really doesn't help out at all. it seems like a breeze the first week, four quizzes & you're done in a day but the next three weeks are hell: 10-15 quizzes a chapter, four chapters in a section, very little usefulness in the quizzes you're FORCED to take. this was a miserable experience.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Yes, taking a class over summer (in 5 weeks) is a ton of work but the due dates are clear and you can go as far ahead as you want. So get the online textbook and start ASAP! The TA does most of the work for the professor but she is willing to work with you if you're having any trouble with My Psych Lab or the material.
I've taken several online classes offered by Dr. Russell and I've made all As in his classes. His classes are easy to follow and provides clear deadlines for assignments, but the majority of the classes he offers, takes time to complete. Expect 75+ questions weekly from quizzes, without worry of time, about 4+ hours per week, Highly recommend!
To pass this online class you must read the text. You have a week to complete assignments. There are basically 3 tests a week, although two are just to help you prepare for the ACTUAL test. You have anywhere from 5-12 quizzes a week. You can go at your own pace, just finish it all by Friday. No final exam!
I took Dr. Russell online over the summer because of a review on here. I then took more classes with him online because of his way of presenting the course. VERY clear cut. You get what you earn. Strictly enforced deadlines. NO extensions. Work ahead, all assignments are available at the beginning. Easy A as long as you read and do the work.
I've taken 2 of Dr. Russell's online courses so far. A's in both and taking a third one this semester (also an A so far). PSYC 2120, 2150, & 3130. There are so many tools for you to use to help you pass, you shouldn't fail. I would take him again.
Took this class online. It was clear cut and fairly easy. If you do the work, you'll get a good grade. Would absolutely take again
If you do the work for this class, you will definitely get an A. There is a decent amount of work, but if you don't wait until the last minute, it's not that bad. Clear grading criteria for sure. I'm taking 2 more of his online classes before I graduate as GPA boosters. Definitely would recommend!
I took Professor Russell's class in the summer and it was very fast paced. This class was online and there were 3-4 video quizzes, 2 pre/posttest, 2 Exams for each chapter which is about 4 chapters a week. No Final! It is a lot of work, but you get multiple chances to get an A on the assignments. I will take another class with Professor Russell.
It's halfway through the semester and I'm done with his class. He releases all 16 weeks at the beginning so you can work ahead. No interaction with him whatsoever, except to correct some of his testing errors (which he was never very nice about). Overall, a 'meh' class, but a great one to take online.
Excellent! I would definitely recommend
MyPsychLab was amazing. I never actually got to ever have a conversation with Dr. Russell himself. Homework takes about 2 hours per week to complete. There are pre-tests, post-tests, study materials, videos, games, etc., all online. You have two tries for the chapter exams. You can work ahead too. I should've made an A but instead he gave me a B
I took this course online and it was one of the easiest courses I have ever taken. He releases the entire semester of work at the beginning so you can work ahead if you want to which is super nice. There also is NO FINAL. The due dates and the grading criteria are clear. He was also very nice and helpful the 1 time I had to email him.
As long as you do the modules for each week and keep up with your course work, you will make an A. The book is required through Pearson, and as long as you read, the test will be a breeze.
I've taken 4 online classes with Dr. Steven! He is amazing. The due-dates for everything is straight forward. As long as you do the pre test, post test, exam, and media assignments you will make an A!
Amazing teacher would take again.
I took his online psych class on child development and its very easy. you raise a virtual child and just complete quizzes online about the things you read in the chapter. just take note while you read and you'll do well
Super easy class. All of the work is on pearson revel- you have to read a chapter and take a couple quizzes every week, and raise a virtual child. There is no final exam, and the assignments took me an hour tops every week.
He gives a clear grading criteria from the beginning of the semester. This class is not hard at all but slightly time consuming. All of the assignments are available from the beginning of the semester so technically you could finish the class early. If you read the chapters and finish the assignments on time, you'll get an A.
I took his Child Psychology class and it's pretty self explanatory. The only thing is that this professor will not offer extra credit and he does not round up scores (if you get an 89.99, it's still considered a "B"). I read a chapter a week and took notes on it and took the quizzes. If you take notes, like I did, it will take you several hours.
I loved his class because it was online and he allowed you to work ahead! I finished the class within the first month which gave me more time to focus on my other classes.
I took Professor Russell's class online and it was great. He lets you work as far ahead as you like which is awesome. The work load was not a crazy amount in his class and the questions in all the assignments were very straight forward. Just keep up with assignments and you will make an A.
By far my favorite online class so far. He stuck to a schedule and opened everything from the first day of class. Easy A.
He barely talks to you all semester, since it's an online class. You basically learn from and read the textbook. Class consists of about 3-4 short weekly quizzes, a weekly chapter quiz, and a 50 weekly question chapter test. It seems like more work than it actually is. You can do well if you keep a schedule for yourself.
Summer class - every 7 days: four chapters, 12 quizzes, 12 short writing assignments, four tests and four proctored camera tests are due. if you are a person who requires studying to do well, forget it. There is no time. And if the online system has an outage out of your control you get a zero.
Prob one of the most ridiculous class I had to take for a Gen Ed class. I took more notes & do more work than in my core classes that are actually required for my major. Tests were hard! Dr. R doesn't communicate with students, he has a TA for that. You are not able to make up work (even if you have fam emergencies). Needless to say, I dropped it!
Easiest online classes Ive taken. I took child psychology and Im currently taking psychology of adjustment. I finished child psychology with an A and most likely will in this class. He gives open note quizzes and then a chapter test that is closed note but 40/50 questions are from the quizzes. Would definitely recommend!!!
This is my second class I have taken with Russell and although he does not communicate much with students, everything is self explanatory. He makes all assignments available at the beginning of the semester. The assignments might feel repetitive but if you actually read to learn and look over your highlighted parts it is not hard.
The whole class is a Pearson book. Read the chapter then take the test through the lockdown browser. Sucks having a test every friday, but if you read they aren't hard. He lets you work ahead and if you complete all the tests in a week you are done for the semester. No final which is nice. No extra credit tho.
Extremely easy course. You work at your own pace and the first assignments arent due for the first 3 weeks. I finished this course within 7 days.
Don't let Dr. Russell's mediocre Rate My Professor reviews scare you. I have taken him for 3 psych classes and he is great! Most of his classes (including this one) are based on weekly Pearson Revel quizzes and readings and weekly Respondus Monitor tests. BUT, as long as you do the readings, you will do fine!
Love this teacher because he lays everything out ahead of time so you can finish the class in advance. I see a lot of the reviews say that they finished it quickly but I did not do this because the textbook readings are fairly heavy and you NEED to read or you won't pass his tests. But if you read, you will do fine.
Easy class, make sure to do your readings on Revel every week and the quiz on canvas will be a breeze. Drops the lowest 2 quiz grades and quizzes are pretty long, about 50 questions. As long as you do your homework and get 70s on your quizzes you will get an A. Uses lockdown browser, unfortunately. This applies to child and social psychology.
Do the revel each week. Each weekly quiz is done using lockdown browser with webcam.
I took this class asynchronous. He did not talk to us or anything. We had all the assignments given to us at the beginning of the semester and it was up to us to turn them in on time. Each week we had a homework module and a quiz due. It was an easy class, but it sucks that the professor did not bother to communicate with us.
All assignments are on REVEL and can work through them at any time. A chapter on REVEL is due each week followed by a chapter quiz on canvas. Super easy and would have gotten an A if I didn't mess up on a couple of them. Also there is NO FINAL EXAM!
Extremely easy class. There are chapter and internet quizzes due each week and sometimes he'll assign two for the week but they are really easy to get through. His test are also very easy and could make or break your grade if you do terrible on them. This is the second time I've taken a class with him and would take another one of his classes.
In what world is 50 questions considered a quiz? Every week, you have to take a 50 question quiz on lockdown. If you dont test well, good luck. This 2000 level course is more work than all of my 4000 level courses. It takes 2-3 days to get through the weekly Revel work, so dont wait until the day before the due date to get started.
50 question "quizzes" and no help whatsoever. If you don't test well this class is not for you, and when you ask for help he does not bother to help anyone. Fellow classmates in our group chat all agree of how much of a joke this class is. Good luck
The next time I take a class with Dr. Russell, I would recommend him. It's so easy for me to understand his psychology classes and I can learn from them. The classes include weekly canvas tests and reading comprehension exercises. He's a good teacher that has clear grading criteria.
Does not teach anything himself, no lectures or guidance, simply expects you to read the textbook and teach yourself the course through Cengage work. Fifty question quizzes on a weekly basis and near the end of the semester there are two a week and double the chapter work. No regard for his students.
He doesn't teach himself. You read the textbook chapter, do the assignments within it, do packback questions and a quiz each week. No tests but the quizzes are all 50questions and on lockdown browser. Not hard if you're pretty independent and he'll drop your lowest 2quizzes
You will be reading the entire textbook with this professor and there are no lectures. The actual work he gives isn't that hard if it weren't for the weekly 50 question quizzes. The quizzes have detailed material in them and if you don't read the chapters you won't get a good grade.
Idk why people complain about Dr. Russell. Class was easy. Class setup clearly defined from the jump: read chapter, MindTap, Packback, chapter quiz - all due by Fri every week. No lecture for completely online class. Have good time mgmt and if you can teach yourself by reading, you'll get your A. Definitely taking more classes w/Dr. Russell!
He is a very hands off teacher who takes no excuses for late work. With that said, he gives you all the assignments day 1, so I actually finished this class in October. I would take him again, but do not take him if you are a slacker and bad at deadlines.
This class was not difficult at all. We did have a lot of work and like others stated we had access to everything at the beginning of the semester. However, Dr. Russell didn't really help much. We would ask him questions about the course material and would tell us to contact technical support. Also, who considers 50 questions a quiz???
Decent class/ setup if you can learn by the textbook only (no lectures). It was a hit or miss if he was actually helpful when I emailed questions about course material or the quiz questions. Weekly 50-question "quizzes", non-cumulative
Avoid this professor at ALL costs, especially if you have a disability. He might be more understanding after I get through with him, but because that is not guaranteed, do yourself a favor and do not take a class with this man. He messed with the wrong student and I would never want anyone else to deal with what I am having to deal with.
If you have good short-term memory this class should be easy. Reading the textbook does take some time, but it's one chapter a week so not too bad. I recommend taking notes on notable people and definitions to make the 50 question respondus "quizzes" easier. Doesn't accept late work ever, so prepare for that. Drops lowest quiz grade.
This is my second time taking a Stephen Russell class, unfortunately. It seems he does not teach any of his courses as I have had the same experience again. You merely purchase online programs and teach yourself. The course revolves around the lengthy textbook and there is a 50 question "quiz" every single week amongst other assignments.
Fully online. Each week you had a canvas quiz, pack back assignment, and mind tap assignment. Canvas quiz was on respondus lockdown browser with camera and audio. No final exam. Same assignments every week. Just read all of chapter and do the two easy mindtap and packback assignment and do decent on canvas quiz. Interesting topics! Overall good
I recommend taking his class. I had him online, and he is very professional. he responds back quickly to assignments and emails. He also communicates weekly and clears up confusion you may have about the assignments. Everything is through PEARSON and it is easily accessible. None of the assignments are hard or time consuming. Great professor!
This was a summer class so I didn't expect much. The class was very easy despite the lack of instruction. While there were no lectures everything could be learned from the Cengage program. I feel like I shouldn't have had to pay for this class and should have just paid for the Cengage program but that is just how the college gets you.
I took this class as an elective over the summer and am considering adding psychology as a minor. This class isn't difficult as long as you're willing to put in some work. You're graded on homework, discussion boards, and quizzes on each chapter and he drops the 2 lowest quiz scores. As long as you work ahead by 2 or 3 days you'll do fine.
Dr. Russell is really caring and understanding. I did have to drop the course due to the amount of material that we had to cover each week. It was about 9 assignments + quiz/test every week. The test is timed, and in-depth, t is a full-time job and beyond stressful. I found that I was stressing myself out more than I was actually learning.
5 assignments/week: Read the chapter, Mastery Training, Packback, Chapter Quiz, Lockdown Canvas Quiz. All except for the lockdown are guaranteed 100s. NO late work is accepted ever. Lockdown quizzes are 50 questions. If you get a 70 on them, you'll make an A with all of the free 100s. No final. All coursework is available so you can finish early.
There's a lot of test and quizzes per unit. It's a lot and you have to make sure you stay on top of things. Everything is from the textbook theres no other learning materials.
I've taken 2 classes with him because of the predictable schedule/routine. The weekly 50-question lockdown webcam exam is a little dramatic but whatever. The worst part about this class is the textbook, which reads like a 6th grader trying to meet a word count. Be prepared to read 3 pages on a concept that can be explained in two sentences.-
You basically do the online textbook assignments, a 50 question quiz with lockdown browser, post a packback question, and respond to two people every single week. The content is fairly easy and common sense so it is not too hard. The professor never speaks to you and all the assignments are open at the start of the semester so you can work ahead!
I took this class online and it was asynchronous. It regarded of purchasing a $200+ reading program called mindtap, where you do a couple of preparation survery/quiz/video (for a grade), as well as read a long chapter to take a LONG 50 question quiz on lockdown browser, then you will do a packback. There is no late work, extra credit. Do your work!
pretty expensive class which can be a drawback. otherwise very simple and predictable. clear assignment of schedule. the quizzes are quite long but i personally didn't mind all that much. it's just one of those classes where you have to make sure to keep up. i enjoyed taking this class.
This class is essentially automated using a textbook. There is a high workload, but most of it is fairly easy. It has 50 question Lockdown browser tests once or twice every week, and some of the questions can be difficult and oddly specific. There are also biweekly packback discussion posts due that are automatically graded.
I took Psych of Adjustment and it was the easiest A. Just submit your weekly hw, complete the tests, and interact with the discussion boards. I took this fully online and I'm so glad I did. Very easy course, highly recommend it if your course load is heavy on other courses and you need a simple A.
(online) Be ready to teach yourself everything! There is NO lecture, so you're required to read a chapter a week on your own. Also be prepared for the 50-question webcam-monitored "quizzes" EVERY week, too! The professor seems quite lazy-- like his online classes don't even exist. From what I see, he makes the TAs do everything including email lol
Manage your time well in this class. Assignment heavy and you will be taking a 50 question quiz every week. Towards the end of the semester the assignments double. This class is still extremely easy to follow. You will mainly be communicating with the TAs, but they are extremely helpful.
Read the syllabus. So do not bother this man with emails because he will just tell you it is in the syllabus. If you manage your time well you can pull an A. You will pass if you keep a 75 average on the quizzes. I recommend working ahead, you will have multiple quizzes at the end of the semester to be completed on the due date.
I really liked the info for this class because I thought it was interesting, but if I knew the entire course was going to be reading a textbook and teaching myself, I wouldn't have spent the money to take this class, especially knowing that it goes towards paying him (to do nothing). This will be an easy class if you retain textbook info well
This class is really not too bad. Do expect to take a 50 Q quiz due every friday but you can work at your own pace and its not as bad as it sounds. As long as you read before you will be fine. My class is fully online so its not too demanding. I have learned a lot and you have a lot of grades so it provides some cushion if you do bad on one test.
This class was really easy, however you barely learn anything. It's an online course, the professor is very disengaged with the class. If you need an easy A take this class, but don't if you want to learn anything. There are weekly Cengage and tests, with PackBacks every 2 weeks. I learned almost nothing in this class, so take that as you will.
you have to read the textbook from cover to cover if you want an A. there's no teaching from Dr. Russell, if you want a self-directed class (with due dates), this will work for you. a chapter per week with lockdown quizzes. if you are not able to fully learn and teach yourself on your own and start assignments before due date, don't take with him.
Every week you will have a 50 Q quiz about that weeks chapter which gets annoying but you have all week to do it so its not bad. Clear grading criteria and lots of grades so there is room to make a few mistakes. Overall it is a lot of reading but not hard if you try.
IDK why his rating is so bad. This is my third class with Dr. Russell. Everything is at your own pace. Read the textbook, do the mindtap + pack back and your grade is fine. The only complaint would be the 50 q quizzes, but your two lowest get dropped.
Stephen Russell does not give any lecture materials. He provides the textbook, and you have to teach yourself by reading a chapter per week, and then he gives you a 50-question exam that is all application questions. There is no lecture, no PowerPoints, and no notes. You are teaching yourself all the material.
It feels insane that I have to pay money for a class I have to teach myself and the professor has basically no involvement in. No lectures. Just reading assignments, discussion assignments, and a 50 question quiz every single week. Would not recommend unless you want to teach yourself and read a LOT.
All MindTap and Canvas quizzes. He does not teach anything at all. It's wild to me to pay so much for a class where there are no lectures, and most comments are from the TA. Avoid all classes by him.
Dr. Russell is fine, my class was completely asynchronous and so the weekly assignments became very monotonous and repetitive. If you want a class that has different activities and the weeks are not the same, this is not the class for you. Our grades consist of a weekly 50 question quiz, packbacks, and one weekly Pearson chapter.
DO NOT TAKE if you aren't ready to read the textbook and take a test on your own EVERY WEEK. The only assignments in this class are reading the Pearson textbook, 50-question tests, and Packback assignments. I have never spoken to this man. He does not actually teach the class. If you like hands-off teachers, have fun; otherwise, it's not worth it.
It's hard to rate him, because I had literally zero interaction with him through this online class. His TA handled all communication. No lectures. Weekly you read a long chapter, do an online portal, andb take a 50 question quiz on lockdown browser. I'm conflicted bc this model works for me, but it's not easy and you have to be very on top of it.
Stephen Russell is terrible. He's not understanding or supportive. You're basically teaching yourself the entire course, and there's a ton of unnecessary homework and 50-question quizzes every Friday. He's rude and sarcastic over email and has his TA do everything. I hope he's not getting paid for these classes because he does literally nothing.
Honestly have nothing to say about Dr. Russel because I did not speak to him once the entire semester. Only heard from the TA, who was incredibly kind. You will need to read each chapter thoroughly because you will have to take a 50 question quiz each week. On the plus side, no exams.
you might as well buy the textbook and read it yourself. you read the whole textbook and do 50 question quizzes. thats all. There is no instruction from him and he doesn't post notes. Hes getting paid to sit there. he doesn't grade anything its all on canvas, the textbook, or packback. I dont know why hes a teacher or why this class is offered. BAD
didnt hear much from prof russell but the class was just reading a textbook. if that works for you, go ahead. no lectures or work outside of the textbook, except for packback.
This is the biggest waste of money. The professor is non existent. You read a chapter of the textbook and then take a 50 question test. Every other week, you do a packback; that's it. If you actually want instruction from a teacher, do not take this class. He is getting paid to give you a textbook you could just read on your own time.
He wasn't a bad professor, but his links to Canvas and Cengage didn't always match, so I would miss assignments with no regrades. Weekly quiz on the chapter due every Friday with lockdown browser and webcam. There was enough time to get these done throughout the week, and to pass weekly quizzes, I had to read the chapter multiple times.
His classes are self-taught on Cengage for the whole semester. 50-question chapter test every week on Lockdown Browser and no extra credit. Not a terrible course, I just wouldn't take this professor again.
