He's a really great teacher. Very upbeat and funny. He makes the clas interesting. His slides arn't really that helpful though and his exams, there are three of them plus a final, are all kinda difficult. He is a great teacher but to really understand the material you have to attend every lecture and really study.
Great lectures, he is really funny and entertaining, but makes horrible tests. If you want an easy A in environmental science, take someone else.
He was a really cool guy. He was helpful if you needed it and clear for the most part when explaining things. His tests were extremely difficult, making the class very tough.
Not the greatest professor. I ended up with an A- in a class I could have got an A in with another professor due to his difficult tests. He has trick questions and gives out a very vague review, if any. There weren't very many topics that were covered that I understood all that well. Attendance is important for easy points (that you will need).
He is an amazing professor. He is super funny and as long as you pay attention he will love you. His tests are kind of hard but if you study a lot you should be fine.
He was a great professor, kept things interesting, passionate. Take advantage of his office hours. And for everyone who says his tests are hard: simply untrue. You need to use critical thinking and not just memorize facts. this speaks to a students test taking skills, not the professor. Go to lecture, he will tell you everything you need to know
Absolutely loved this class. He is energetic, entertaining, and makes something like ash bores interesting. The important thing with his class is that you must pay attention to what he says in addition to the slides he gives. Overall great teacher. You WILL learn something with him.
Professor Rybczynski is one of the greatest professors at Grand Valley! He makes the entire course interesting and fun. He also makes some very confusing topics very easy to understand. Everything he says in class WILL be on the exam. If you show up with an open mind and willing to learn you should do great!
It is important to take good notes since all of the information comes from powerpoints. Don't hesitate to go to his office if you feel you aren't doing well. He WANTS to help you learn and will do whatever it takes to help you learn. He is really passionate about science and wants to make it fun. One of the best teachers I have had for sure!
Fun professor. He's really nice and you can tell that he really knows what he's talking about. He has a lot of field experience. Really wants his students to do well and is always available if you have questions. (:
Great class! He made things fun and really enjoyed what he was doing. Definitely worth taking!
Professor Rybz is a GREAT lab professor. He is very time efficient and makes sure everything gets done, and correctly. He is very approachable and helps you with any questions you have. He is very funny and makes the class go by quickly. I wouldn't have wanted any other professor. He is semi-picky on graphs, and knowing how to use Excel is a must.
Professor Rybs is an AWESOME lab professor! He explains things thoroughly and makes them easy to understand. He also has the students' best interest in mind, which is really helpful.
This class is very dense. It's a lot of lecture and a lot of reflection questions. He isn't an awful Prof but it's not always interesting.
The material itself is not that complicated, but he does not tell you what you need to know. Lectures are very broad and he will not make a study guide. You basically need to know every detail of every chapter because he doesn't do specifics. Only thing that saved me was using a notecard on the exams.
He is a great guy but does not know how to teach this class. His teaching techniques usually work for other classes, but his test do not ask questions about his lecture. He says he will only test on the big picture of things, but his test are very specific. Even if you know all the information, it is still hard to get higher than a B.
This professor is out of his depth teaching Bio 120. Confusing lectures and is not able to explain topics more deeply then what he memorized. He confessed to teaching himself the material using wikipedia. He says he is will tell if something is on the exam or not, then will evade the question. He says worry about big concepts but not true.
I thought he was a great teacher. When you go to his office hours you can really tell he wants you to succeed. His test are hard but it will get you ready for upper level bio classes. Be ready to study a lot on your own. He will make you put in the work if you want a good grade
Difficult class, not the kind of professor to spoon feed you infothe grade. He wants you to learn, not memorize, which I respect but hate. Unfortunately I think his expectations are too high for a lower level BIO class. Awesome person. Go to his office hours and he will work through any questions you have in great depth.
He really knows what he's talking about and I enjoyed his lectures. He can make it interesting even if you aren't into bio. Make sure to read both the book and powerpoints. Tests are pretty tough so make sure to know the book chapters like the back of your hand.
His tests are very specific and hard. I would study all weekend and be lucky to get a B. His lectures are confusing, he brings in examples that don't really help and just make it harder.
Professor Rybczynski is one of the greatest professors I have ever had. He makes science fun for those not even interested in science! He truly wants you to do well and is extremely helpful. The content is difficult but if you are present in class you should do well.
Professor Rybczynski is probably my favorite professor ever! He is hilarious and has an awesome attitude towards his class. He is really relatable and a chill guy. His class was a lot of work but he helps in any way that he can. His explanations are very good and he gave us a study guide outline for each test. Please take his class! Its worth it!
Professor Rybcz is a good and funny guy, but not a very good prof. His lectures are confusing and he kind of bounces around a lot. If you ask him questions he is no help at all, even in office hours. He goes really fast and his power points are pointless. Do not reccommend
Super funny guy, made a 3 hour lecture extremely fun. Very helpful and always cracking jokes, weekly online quizzes and 3 exams. He provides study guides for each exam though and the final is all questions from former exams, super great professor.
Dr. Rybz is one of my fave professors I've had at GVSU. He's super funny and friendly. His lectures are a little confusing but if you go to office hours he explains everything until you understand. Tests are tough but if you do the review sheets you'll be golden. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I'd def take him again.
Mr. Rybz was by far one of my favorite professors! I dread science because it is always boring and confusing but he made it fun and understandable. Didnt really open my book only to double check when i was confused but his lectures usually cover the review sheet which are helpful for the exams! TAKE HIM!
I'm not a big science fan, but he made this class fun, informational, and interesting. Keeping up on reflection questions is important. He likes it when the class participates! He will not treat you like you're stupid if you don't understand something. Overall, a great professor/person and I would definitely recommend him!
He was a very funny lecture professor who cared about making sure students understood the concepts. Study guide were given based off his lectures. Rarely opened the book. Gave book quizzes online, but answers were in the back of the book. Lecture was confusing as to what to take note of though.
He was one of the best profs I've ever had! Science isn't my strong suit, but he really cares about his students and can see if you're struggling and help you understand the material. It's a tough class, but his teaching style is engaging and effective which makes it enjoyable.
He is welcoming, enthusiastic and very interesting. This professor always tries to throw in little information about himself; makes him seem more real and relateable.
Love this guy! He makes bio fun, and definitely keeps you on your toes. He's like a performer up at the front of the room giving lectures, and he really tries to connect to each and every student, making sure each one understands the content. I would definitely take him again!
He is very intelligent and also very energetic during his lectures. He knows his stuff and does a great job making it understandable to his students! He also has a great sense of humor. The class requires a lot of studying but the lectures are very interesting and easy to pay attention to and he is very approachable outside of class for extra help!
I have a feeling that Dr. Ryb will be one of my favorite professors. He truly cares about students and is straight forward in the info he expects you to know. While he is extremely lecture heavy, he does everything he can to keep students engaged. I personally thought he was hilarious. The only hw was weekend quizzes (answers in book) and studying.
Dr. Rybz is honestly the best professor I've had at Grand Valley, and I'm a super-senior. He is so down to earth and he genuinely cares about his students; he wants you to learn and succeed. The class itself is pretty tough, but if you put the work in you will definitely do well. I wish I could take him again :'(
The best prof I have ever had. He knows what he's talking about and you can tell he loves what he does. The exams are pretty hard, but for the online quizzes, all the answers are in the back of the book. He is amazing, wish he was my uncle or something. Supaaa funny aswell.
The best professor I have ever had at GV. Prof Rybz is hilarious, uses great examples and is always welcoming to questions and extra help. Weekly online quizzes that are exactly from the book. You won't be handed a good grade but if you work for it, its very attainable.
This guy is great! He's the best professor I've ever had at Grand Valley and I've been here for 4 years now! He always finds ways to keep lectures interesting and entertaining and I would definitely take another class of his!
You definitely need to study, it's a hard class, but it's worth it. His power points are mainly pictures, but it says what will be on the exam and gives you everything you need to know
Attendance isn't mandatory but if you want to pass, show up to class and take notes. He writes his own lectures and will tell you what is going to be important to remember for the tests but the tests are very difficult. 3 tests and a final, all multiple choice. Book is needed for weekly quizzes and refers to figures in textbook on tests.
He is hilarious and VERY helpful. Also, he actually wants you to be successful and is very understanding. This class is known to be difficult, but I loved it overall.
Easily the best professor I have ever had. He values his students and wants to see you succeed. I went to his office hours and he was so helpful. Absolutely loved him. Tests aren't hard if you study. I wish he taught all of my classes.
TAKE. THIS. PROFESSOR. I had to retake BIO 120 and had him the second time around. Only has about 15 slides in his lectures and really takes his time on each. Everything on the exams come straight from the lectures. Quizzes are full credit just for completion, and he takes exact quiz questions and puts them on the examsfree points. HE IS AMAZING!!
Dr. Rybz was hilarious!! He has great lectures and he genuinely cares for his students. I would take him again if I could. Take his advice and start studying WAY before the exam, it's worth your time. Also, don't hesitate to go see him during office hours.
Professor Rybz is great! He will make you work for that A if you really want it! But he is super funny and makes lecture interesting every single class. I went to his office hours once or twice per week half the time to just talk and connect with him! 10/10 recommend taking him for 120
I love him! You can truly tell that he is passionate about what he is teaching. The class is not difficult to pass AT ALL, as long as you show up and participate. he makes class time fun and engaging. The homework load is very light, and as long as you go over your notes for the tests, you'll be fine. Take him!!
He is really a great teacher and truly cares about his students but you really need to work for the grade you want. His lectures are somewhat interesting, but if you zone out for 30 seconds youre screwed.
This class is always hard I hear. He was an awesome guy. Super funny and definitely smart. He was really hyper and kind of all over and his powerpoints were fine during class, but going through them for exams didnt help much because theyre lots of pictures with no words (that he explains in class). Exams are multiple choice but tough.
Literally the best professor Ive ever had. Never thought I would like biology but I have to take it for my major but seriously he makes biology so fun I want to change my major to bio. Lectures are actually interesting and he will help you with everything. I couldnt imagine having a diff professor, if you have to take this class TAKE HIM!
I'm good student but I struggled in this class. I'd study for hours and still get a 75, which isn't usual for me. Very nice guy, but his tests are worded soooo hard. Felt like not much of my notes/his powerpoints were helpful, except for his real life examples-know those for the tests. Rent the book on Amazon, don't buy it. Study mastering quizzes
Prof Ryb is a nice guy and hes really funny. He makes class more interesting by using lots of examples that are entertaining. However, his tests are hard. I would study for hours and I still would get a 60%. Its not that the material is even that hard if you study, he just words the questions weird it catches you off guard.
I consider myself a good student, but I really struggled in this class. His tests were very hard (worded weird) and I would study for days and still get an 80%. He's a very nice guy and approachable. Make sure you go to lecture and listen to all of his examples (they will be on the exams!). I would take him again, but he makes you earn that A!
I cant emphasis this enough; TAKE HIS CLASS! Prof. Rybs cares so much about his students and applies his lectures to the real world. Does a really good job on making boring topics interesting. You need to study on your own but he wants everyone to get an A and it shows! Quizzes are online @home you will get an A on all of them. lowest is dropped.
Dr. Rybz is AWSOME! He related real-world things to the content, which made it more fun and easier to understand. Lectures are 100% mandatory. He tells some key stories that he'll test you on, that can't be found in the book/online, so pay attention. Overall, such a nice guy who genuinely cares about his students' success.
Dr. Rybczynski is awesome! He does a really good job of connecting the lectures to things that he finds interesting in the world. 120 was definitely challenging, but Dr. Rybczynski makes topics easier to understand!! The exams were challenging, but I would recommend studying the lecture slides and finding the more in depth answers in the book.
Professor Rybczynski is one of the best professors I have had at GVSU. He is super funny and tries to make lecture as fun as possible because he knows that for most it isn't the most fun subject. I recommend going to his office hours because he will answer any and all questions that you have and is super positive and he just loves to teach.
One of the best professors at Grand Valley. He uses real life stories to make sense of the complex topics in this course. He's ver passionate about this course and does a great job explaining things. Little to no homework so very test heavy. His power points are mostly pictures so need to be a fast notetaker. Overall a very good professor
If you struggle in BIO take him. He explains things very clear and relates lots to the real world so it's easier to understand. He's super funny and really wants you to succeed. He responds very fast to any questions you have. 10/10 recommend.
So I took a fully online class (asynchronous) with him this semester and I would die for him, on the spot, no questions asked. He's so funny, I can't do biology for jack but he made it enjoyable and fun. He's so nice and caring, he answers emails pretty much within the hour, highly recommended, for online or in-person classes.
Dr. Rybz is by far the best professor I have ever had. He is extremely qualified to teach biology, and brings fun context to the content we are learning. He is accessible outside of class, and gives very helpful feedback. Make sure you listen to the lectures and take good notes, as the exams depend on your own work ethic. Nicest guy, very dedicated
Great prof. He didnt take off late points for quizzes which was nice. Lectures could be lengthy and he would easily get off topic, not a big deal. Exams could sometimes be tough, other times pretty easy. Final was kinda hard though. He takes his exam questions a step further than the quizzes. Easy and lowkey class
This was difficult as it was asynchronous and we did not get to interact with him or the other students. The exams are tough, lectures are packed with content, and the final is hard -- but I honestly don't really blame Rbybzi. He's a cool guy, but the class as a whole is kind of difficult. Don't let people fool you, I never cracked the textbook!
Professor Rybczynski was a very nice guy. The class was all online, so I never met him, but he taught the material very well. He gave good real life examples that helped to explain the topics even more, and was always available outside of class for questions or just to talk if you wanted. Very nice guy and very knowledgable. Tests are kind of hard
I had this professor in the winter semester for SCI 225. He did video lectures that we worked on asynchronous, and then would be available during class time to go over any questions or concerns. He really cares about making sure everyone understands each lesson.
I LOVED PROF RYBZ! This was an online asynchronous class, but he was really accessible and you could tell he wanted us to succeed. I had a bad experience with AP bio in hs, but Prof Rybz made every concept so easy to understand. Read the chapters and watch his lecture videos and you will be completely fine. He is truly an amazing professor!
Professor Rybz was one of my favorites this year. I was so excited coming to his weekly class because of how much he cares about his students and the content he teaches. The exams are a little difficult, but if you study and take notes (you can use them on the exams), you will succeed in this class. Professor Rybz was always available to help!
As a straight A, medical field bound student, I can honestly say Dr. Rybz was one of the worst professors and teachers I have ever had. His lectures are confusing and unorganized, and his slideshows are irrelevant and worded so that they only make sense to him. He was horrible when I asked for help outside of class. Tells too many stories.
He is a nice person and a good professor. It was hard to follow his lectures along with the slides. The story telling did keep me engaged, but also made me confused at times.
One of the best professors i've ever had. Extremely understanding and shows that he actually cares about his students. Also always offers extra help after class and gives us a lot of resources. This was one of my more challenging classes this semester and if I had a different professor I definitely would not have gotten as good of a grade.
This is a difficult (sometimes boring) class but Prof Rybz tries to make it as interesting as possible! After my class struggled on the first few exams he offered to replace our lowest grade with our highest which helped. He also gives an opportunity for extra credit. There are lots of real life stories, so do what you want with that information.
TAKE DR RYBZ!! I seriously loved having him. He does a great job of explaining things and tells you what you really need to know. He is more than willing to help you outside of class and waned you to succeed. Lectures keep me intrigued. If I had any other professor I know I would have struggled way more in this class. I cannot recommend him enough.
Dr. Rybz is a great prof. He truly cares about his students' learning. This class covers a lot of content, but he does his best to lecture in ways that will help us remember everything. We were graded on weekly reflection questions, a couple of concept maps, and 3 exams. I look forward to going to this class!
Dr. Rybz is one of the best professors I've ever had! He really cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. The class is based off weekly assignments and exams, but the assignments and guiding questions are exactly like the exams. He makes lectures fun and the material easy to learn! Highly recommend :)
This class for me personally was a struggle at times and I didn't pick up the information as quickly as I would've liked. Professor is a great teacher though and cares about your success, he will help you get there if you make the effort to meet with him.
Rybczynski was a very caring professor and taught using power points and using real-life situations relating to the content. If you find yourself asking, 'why am I learning this content?' Rybczynski will answer that before you ask. He is attentive to questions and will rephrase or use a different context if a student does not understand.
I loved Dr. Rybz. He is a great professor, and he really cares about you understanding the material. If you take this class, know it is exam heavy, if you're a bad test taker (like myself), this is your warning to try HARD in this class. Also, go to class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it should be.
Dr. Rybz was a great professor and really engaged with you in lectures. He kept me very interested in topics that weren't very interesting. Be aware that the entirety of your grade comes from online open note quizzes and four exams throughout the semester. If you put in the work then the class isn't too difficult.
BIO 120 was definitely a difficult course, but if you put in the work that's recommended by Professor Rybz, you'll do great. He used real-life examples to explain detailed and complex topics. DO NOT slack off! He also posted video lectures that are useful to rewatch when preparing for exams. He truly wanted everyone to do well and it showed.
Dr. Rybz was one of the best professors I've taken! He was very accommodating, funny, and caring. He also used real life examples in lecture to make better connections and make the topics more interesting. This class is very hard though, and you NEED to study far in advance to exams or you won't do good on them. Read the textbook and study lots!
One of my favorite professors! He used real life examples during lectures so we could better understand the material. He is very chill and makes his class enjoyable. If you email him with a question, he gets back to you quickly and offers any extra help when needed. Take Rybczynski if you have BIO 120!
Doctor Rybz is amazing. Definitely one of my favorite professors at GV. He finds a way to relate his lectures to real life, and it is so helpful! Super careful, funny guy. I would take him over and over again! 100% recommend taking him if you can!
Prof Rybz was awesome. He found a way to make his lectures interesting and would connect each to a real life scenario at the start of class (which helped a ton in remembering the material). The class itself was difficult and you definitely need to study a lot in advance & the guiding questions he provides help a ton. Overall, he was great.
My favorite professor that I've had so far! Makes the lectures funny and interesting and is dedicated to his practice. It's very clear that he cares about his students.
I took this class as an online asynchronous summer class. Professor Rybczynski does a good job of explaining things in his recorded lectures. The only assignments are one reflection question for each learning module and 2 concept maps. He is extremely nit-picky with his grading so you have to be VERY detailed. The exams were also kind of difficult.
Science is not my strong suite and Dr. Rybz made this class fun and I actually wanted to attend. There are not many grades in the grade book so make sure you study for the exams. Other than that asks questions and participate because when it comes to your grade he knows who showed up and cared. I really enjoyed this class!
I recommend everyone that can take bio lecture online to do it. Quiz every week and there are 4 tests throughout the year all online and NOT proctored. He offers unlimited attempts on the quizzes and there is an extra credit assignment available to raise your grade at the end of the year sends a lot of emails to lyk he is here to help.
Prof Rybczynski is the best professor I've ever had. I've never seen someone care about their students the way he does. He goes the extra mile for all of his students to make sure you understand the concept. EXAMS ARE VERY IMPORTANT SO STUDY.Not only is he an amazing teacher he's an amazing person. lol ignore his corny jokes.
Professor Rybczynski is an amazing professor to have. As someone who is not the best at science, I did very well in his class. The tests are very important in his class so make sure you understand the information, but as someone who is not the best at tests, I did ok on them. I would recommend him to any education students.
LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. His teaching style was great for me, and as long as you want to learn, he wants to teach to. He is super funny and is always willing to help you out if you have questions on the course content. Would definitely recommend taking one of his classes
Rybz is awesome! I loved going to his class so much. It was a lot of information, but he always made sure we understood before moving to the next thing. He does fall behind on grading but overall he cares about you as people and future educators!
This professor was one of the easiest, low-key professors; they communicated expectations well and clearly explained what was expected in the course. But just a very easy person to talk to about class and everything in general.
This prof is passionate and knowledgeable about the course topic. He makes sure to tell you what he expects you to know for exams. This course isn't easy, but if you pay attention, it is not too difficult to grasp. He is reasonable about extensions and easy to talk to for help! Oftentimes, he makes an effort to make class extra engaging!
One of my favorite professors. I actually learned a lot in this class, considering its him teaching at us a lot however, he keeps you engaged and applies it to the real world. He's a goofy and nice guy. You have response questions after every class but they are easy. You have 2 tests before the final and concept maps (but always gives an A)
