Schwany is probably my favorite professor this semester. I had questions from my biology class that I didn't get and he explained them perfectly. Exams are a little rough but I got a B.
Great guy! Knows what he's talking about. Does everything in his power to help you get a good grade in the course.
Schvaneveldt is a very good teacher. I recommend him to anyone that needs to take Chemsitry. He was originally supposed to be a CH 102 teacher, but is teaching another semester of 101 instead. He gives very good notes, they're typed up and easy to understand. I have barely even opened my book and still have an A in the class. Take this class!!
Really good teacher who makes notes for the class and tells a few jokes to keep you interested.
He is a great teacher, he just talks a bit fast. The test are easy as long as you follow the notes well, he types his notes up and they are pretty good.
He was an amazing professor! He provides print out notes that are extraordinarily beneficial!!!! His notes are so thorough that he basically covers a majority of the reading. He gives a lot of great examples, too! Furthermore, he gives online quizzes that help out a lot with your great b/c you can keep retaking them until you get a good score.
Dont be scared off by the name! He's a great guy. Online quizzes help, take them over and over until you get 100. no homework. exams were difficult, but he is probably the best prof there is for chem 101.
He is a GREAT professor! If you have to take chemistry, definitely sign up for his class.
Best chemistry professor at Clemson. Does everything in his power to help you get a good grade. Gives online quizzes that you can take over and over until you get a 100. Very funny and nice guy..take him if you can!
Wonderful Chemistry professor! He goes a little fast but dont be scared! If you ask him to slow down or go over something again during class he is more than happy. He is also funnny and does a lot of examples to help comprehend some of the stuff. If you make over a 90 on the online quizes, he will round them all to 100 at the end of the semester!
A great professor. He does go a little quickly, but is more than willing to slow down or go over something again. He has print-outs of notes available, which is incredibly helpful. His lectures are fairly interesting and he's a very nice guy who really wants to see his students do well. Highly recommended.
He's the best chemistry teacher around. Although his tests can be very tricky, (I swear they are out to trick you on them-no matter what they say) he helps maintain your grade by giving quizzes that can be retaken until you achieve your desired grade. He's real laid back but dont just expect to fly through it without puttin in effort like I did.
I was interested in Chemistry before taking this class, but hearing all the horror stories from people who took the class at Clemson, I was pretty scared. Schvaneveldt wasn't a very easy professor, but he was just extremely helpful and always wanted his students to succeed. You will have to put effort into the class, but he is highly reccomended!!!
Loved him. He gives you lecture notes to print out before class and study guides for each chapter. His analogies are really helpful. Highly recommended.
He's a really nice guy. Gives lecture notes with an outline for what you'll be learning for each chapter. Always more than willing to help you when you have questions and is easily accessible for study help. One of the best professors I've ever had.
Mr. Schvaneveldt is a tremendous professor. He gives you a printout of notes that you can fill in along with the lecture, and his test questions come straight from that. He also provides practice quizzes and study guides. He definitely makes chemistry tolerable.
Outstanding professor! Very helpful and dedicated to teaching. He really goes out of his way to make sure you understand the material.
By far the best professor at Clemson. If you have to take physical chemistry 331/332, make sure you take him. Extremely smart, but still a normal guy. Good sense of humor and very nice, and wants to see you do good. The class is still going to be hard as hell b/c it's just a really hard class, but he is definitely the guy you want.
Schvaneveldt is an amazing professor. Hearing horror stories, I was scared to take Chemistry at Clemson, but he definitely made it tolerable. He's a very nice guy who will go out of his way to help you, he was even late to a meeting to help me with something I didn't understand. Go talk to him if you don't understand something. Highly reccomended!
Clear, passionate, and effective. Great teacher.
Best freakin professor ive ever had.
Best Professor!!!!!!!!!! Doesnt mind helping those who needs help even at his own time!
I went from failing AP chem in highschool to making a B in his class. He is seriously the best prof. ever; so knowledgable, cares about his students, and has the gift of teaching. He makes the material really understandable and he's a funny guy. PLEASE do yourself a favor and take him-he is a million times better than everyone else.
I had Physical Chemistry with this guy, and I gotta say, he is THE teacher you want for this class. There is so much to understand in this class and he walks you through it in this lectures and homeworks. He is one of the best teachers I have had at Clemson. I look forward to having him again. Oh, he helps out A TON with everything.
Best professor ever!!...He really knows his stuff and is more than willing to help you. He even helped my lab group with lab questions even though that wasn't his department. He prints out lecture notes for each class as well as study guides for each chapter so it's really easy to follow along and study for tests. TAKE HIM!!!!!!
BEST PROFESSOR SO FAR AT CLEMSON!! Many people talk about how hard chemsitry is here at Clemson but I can assure you, if you take this professor it will not be hard! He gives you lecture notes for every chapter which were very helpful. As long as you know the lecture notes and study guides you will make an A! never used textbook!! TAKE HIM
best teacher ever.i struggled so much in high school , ended up making a C. Thought I was doomed in college...but made an easy easy A. As long as you do his review and practice exams...you'll make an A easy! :)
Loved him. Chemistry was definitely one of my hardest classes first semester, but having taking Taylor for ch102 i appreciate Schvandeveldt much more. Makes class easy to follow and not boring at all. The tests are made by the chem department so they are hard, but if you follow in class and study the book you'll do fine.
He was born to teach. He has a subtle, quiet sense of humor too. When you catch it, it's hilarious. Sit up front. He's a great teacher, willing to help, and sincerely wants each student to pass. He'll never get a perfect 100 from his students on an i-clicker, but he should because he's a great teacher. Fulfill his dream, just once.
Dr. Schvaneveldt was probably my favorite professor my freshman year. You can tell he really loves to teach. He does an excellent job of making things clear in his lectures, even something as complicated as chemistry. He is also very helpful outside of the classroom. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Very good teacher. He is extremely knowledgable about chemistry and you can approach him easily out of class and he is willing to help you. If you don't like chemistry lectures can be a little boring so don't take the 8am class like i got so unlucky to get...So definetly take him if you feel like you'll need extra help.
Most of the info the class covers is difficult but he doesnt give weekly quizzes and he will go out of his way to make sure you understand....he is funny and really good professor you can also miss like 6 classes and still make a 100 for attendance
Very Helpful, Nice guy
I was an English major, but chemistry with Schvanveldt was one of my favorite classes in college. He is the epitome of a good professor: perfectly explained notes, approachable, funny, interesting, really helpful, etc. You'll thank yourself for taking him!
If I wouldn't have had Dr. Schvaneveldt for Chemistry there is no way I would've done so well. He's super helpful and posts all the notes on BB, you just have to fill in the blanks in class. He's really helpful and made the class a lot better than I thought it would be.
Definitely take him for chemistry! He goes above and beyond to make sure that you understand what he is lecturing on. He explains everything thoroughly so that you can understand it easily. Take him!
Honestly he is the BEST chem 101 teacher! I took his class and as long as you go to class and pay attention you won't even need to study for the tests. I thought chem 101 was easy, but my friends who had other teachers thought it was really hard. Also always go to class or have someone take your iclicker for you, it helps your grade a lot!
great professor. He posts lecture notes on blackboard and you fill in the blanks as he lectures so it is really easy to follow along. The test questions are almost exactly like the practice problems that he posts with the notes, so it is easy to study. Make sure you go to class and use your iclicker and do mastering chemistry, it raises your grade.
He is probably the best professor for chemistry. He posts notes and fills in the blanks during class. He explains hard concepts really well. He made this class really easy. His tests are pretty easy, just study the notes and practice problems and you'll do fine.
The best teacher for chemistry if you are like me and aren't that great at chem. He gives you notes and example problems everyday for class. First time a took chem I made a D, decided to change professors and took this guy, brought it up to a B. Great teacher, hard subject, but you'll get the best grade with this guy.
he was the best professor i've ever had at clemson. i hated chemistry and didn't understand it at all until i took this class. i was extremely happy to find out he was also teaching chem 102. if you are picking a chemistry teacher, pick him. i made an A in this class because he is an amazing teacher. his notes and lectures are great
attendance is used to give you a participation grade; if you come to class and work the problems he gives for each chapter prior to the test then you will go GREAT!! Unit tests are 26-28 MC questions!!!
The best teacher I've ever had. Taught chemistry in a way that any subject was so easy to comprehend. The tests were kind of hard, but if you do your work it was fine. There is no reason for anyone to get less than a C in his class unless they never show up or have a handicap
THE BEST! He gives printed notes and you fill in the blanks during class. If you do the practice problems that are given in the notes you will get an A.
All notes are put on the internet and you print them and fill in the blanks. Has lots of practice problems on the notes and he explains everything very well so anyone could understand it. If I had to take Chem again i would definitely take him.
He is hilarious and enlightening.
Best teacher I've had at Clemson so far! Great sense of humor. He explains everything clearly and is very helpful. Tests are hard but if you study and do the practice problems you can get As and Bs. Hes a great teacher! Take his class if you can.
Absolutely amazing! This guy knows his stuff, and he knows how to present it in a way that anyone can understand! No quizzes, just iClicker and online homework as far as normal things go. The top grade you can get on an exam is a 104, and for the first exam in our class, more people got a 104 than any other grade. HIGHLY recommended!!
He is GREAT! Take him if you can. Had him for chem 101, and he made everything so much easier! He gives you handout notes that are easy to follow and posts lecture videos and exam key videos that really help you study! Once again take him for 101!
He is a great teacher, he even posts video lectures and works out exam problems online
He is one of the best teachers I've ever had. His teaching style is great. He posts notes online and fills them in in class. Very easy to understand and is very willing to give extra help. He also posts video solutions to old exams so you know how to do all the problems. Definitely take him!
Great teacher! Probably the best I've had so far... Has great class notes that you fill in the answers to during class. You NEVER have homework except for the online stuff that all sections have to do. Our section had the highest average out of all CH 101 sections last semester. Great teacher!
The best chemistry professor I've EVER had. Does a great job explaining even the most complicated stuff. Always available for help outside of class. You will never regret taking his class! :)
LOVED this professor! Made chemistry so much easier to understand and so helpful! Would recommend to everyone!
He is the best professor I ever had. I had to retake the course and he helped me out sooo much. Definitely take him if you can!
Take his class. I'm not the best at chemistry, and he did an exceptional job of explaining concepts clearly. He had great class notes, and all the other sections were jealous of them because their professors only gave out slides. He is a stellar chem professor and always has time to help you, even if you're asking a ton of questions.
This guy is the best! I had to take it over and he made it sooo easy! take him!
I had to take CHEM 101 over and I will well in his class. He is a great professor and really "dummy" down Chemistry for you. If you get a chance to take him, do it :)
Dr. Schvaneveldt is the best Chem teacher you could possibly have at CU. He is a nice guy and very helpful! He won't make you feel stupid for not understanding and he really wants to help his students do well. If you have to take Chem, do whatever it takes to get him. Such a nice guy and very fair!
Best teacher ever. I absolutely hate chemistry and did well in his class. If you dont understand it, go to his office hours and he will make it work.
Such a chill teacher. The slackest person I know recommended this teacher to me. I used the book once, only to refer to a chart. His notes are really useful and tests aren't that bad if you actually put effort into studying for it. He is very willing to help you out.
Seriously an AMAZING professor! He is so willing to help and goes to extreme lengths to explain the information. He really wants you to do well and is actually really funny. He's creative with his examples and gives you heads up on what you need to know for the exam. Schvaneveldt is the man!
He is an amazing teacher. The notes he uses are extremely helpful and he puts them online prior to the class in which he uses them. He cares about your grade and he makes chemistry interesting. He is also a very good lecturer, so his class is rarely boring. Highly Recommended!
This guy is really amazing. He is incredibly clear, goes at a very steady pace, and keeps interest through his surprisingly good humor. He is easily one of the best professors that I have ever had. Highly recommended if you have a weak chemistry background, or otherwise!
He is a great teacher. He gives you lecture notes and shows you a easier way to solve problems. I highly recommend you to pick him as a professor.
THE BEST CHEMISTRY TEACHER! I didn't understand chemistry AT ALL before him, and he makes everything crystal clear. He gives handouts, and his class always has the highest average on the tests.
Great for a CHM teacher. The class itself is pretty tough, but know the study guides, they will help you get through! He's very helpful, just make time to go see him in his office or before/after class. Would definitely recommend this for someone who has to take CHM 102.
Fantastic professor, will go out of his way to help you understand material. Also willing to talk after class about all kinds of interesting science things. Posts study guides and old exams with a VIDEO answer key. TAKE HIM!
GREAT TEACHER! He puts notes on blackboard for every chapter complete with pictures and fill in the blanks, that are very helpful to print and fill in during class. He also makes study guides for EACH chapter. He dumbs down chem and makes things SO easy to understand! My friends with other professors were always really jealous, TAKE HIM!!
Great professor!! clearly explains everything and connects with previous material.
Probably one of the best professors I ever had. Never went to any office hours because he explained everything so well in class. I would definitely recommend him.
GREAT TEACHER!! I highly recommend. He is always willing to help and is good at explaining. I would've signed up for him for 102 but he was only teaching honors.
He was amazing! I've always hated chem but I actually listened and understood most of what he was saying. Chemistry is still chemistry so I'm not saying the class is easy. I put a lot of time into it and took advantage of tutoring. I totally recommend him!
Hands down one of the best professors I have had. He teaches in such a way that even the dumbest student would understand chemistry and do well. Take him!
Great Professor! Best one I've had yet at Clemson! Gives great notes and is very easy to talk to.
I am taking the online section of CH101 and I absolutely LOVE it! I have gone to Dr. S whenever I don't understand something and he is always so helpful and understanding! He gives the best note sheets and study guides and really loves his job and it shows. TAKE HIM!
Unbelievable. He really is an outstanding teacher. Whether you are good at chemistry or bad at it, take him.
He's such a boss! I had AP before taking his 102 but he's still great. Lecture notes are very clear-cut and full of examples. Constantly stops to make sure there are no questions, and great in office hours. Uses iClicker for attendance, so it is mandatory. Keep up with homework on MasteringChemistry and ask questions. The best Chem prof by far.
Pretty cool guy. Very helpful. Gets nervous easy but doesn't make you feel stupid. Much better than other chem 102 professors. Take him if you can!
Awesome teacher!!! Super super nice guy, and is so willing to help if you go by his office hours. Notes and lectures are clear cut and he teaches you exactly what you need to know for exams. Got a 96 on the first exam and a 100 on the second. TAKE HIM!!!
EXCELLENT teacher. Take his online CH 101 class if you get a chance! Waaaayyyyy better than the standard class. He explains things great and works through all the problems. He even works through the mock exams online! I got a far better grade through this class compared to my roommate and friends in normal classes.
He is an absolutely amazing professor. I definitely recommend him. I had a different professor for 101 and he makes everything SO much clearer. I haven't felt lost all semester and am doing really well in this class. He is very understanding and really cares about students. Get him if you can!
Schvaneveldt really was a great professor. He explained material perfectly. I don't think the reason most of his students do well is because he's easy but because he really does just teach well. Don't be surprised when you do poorly on the first two tests though. They are the hardest and the averages of them fall around a 70.Your grade will improve
Great professor. Explains things very well and is eager to help students.
He was a great professor & was always very clear. The material wasn't easy, but if you pay attention, study, and go talk to him if you need help, you'll do well. Probably one of the best chemistry professors i've ever taken.
A great professor all around. I took the online class and was worried that I wouldn't learn the material as well as people in the live lecture, but I ended up doing a lot better than most people because he is such a good teacher.
Best teacher I have had at Clemson. Chemistry is not an easy subject, but he explained everything so well to the point that it was enjoyable to go to class. If you go to class and pay attention, you will do great in the class. He makes study guides for every chapter that really help for the tests. TAKE HIM!!!!!
My favorite professor ever! Great instructor, very good at explaining the subject. He gives out expansive study guides on all the subjects, and really makes it almost impossible to do badly in the class. As long as you use the study guides and go to class, you will do fine.
SUCH A GREAT PROFESSOR! I'm not the greatest at chemistry, but he does an excellent job teaching it. I took him ONLINE and he gives thorough lecture notes and also study guides for reinforcement on each chapter. Highly recommend him.
Amazing professor! Kicked my AP teacher's butt. Makes everything easy to understand and explains thoroughly. Has study guides for each chapter and if you do them and listen in class, you will make a good grade. Never use the textbook, but have homework assignments online. Iclicker questions are used for attendance and extra credit. Great professor!
best teacher ive had at clemson! makes everything so clear, very helpful wants you to do the very best. Got a C on my chem 101 course and hated it, chem 102 is my favorite class and he makes so much sense out of it. TAKE HIM
He is a GREAT teacher. Really breaks the material down for you and doesn't give too much homework.
Amazing professor! He knows what he is talking about and can explain the material so that everyone can understand it. Doesn't use the textbook he makes his own notes. Just follow along in class there isn't much hw and review the notes and the exams are straight forward. He is a very nice guy and wants to help you learn the material.
He's probably the best professor I've had. Very clear and concise, and wants you to understand the material and do well.
STINKIN AWESOME TEACHER! By far one of my favorites. Breaks things down, very helpful, wants you to succeed. He is super sweet and VERY funny. Very possible to do well if you put in a tad bit of effort. He is also very willing to help you out. Great guy.
By far one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. Super helpful, really funny, and draws you into the material. Not to mention he is EXTREMELY understanding and willing to work around any issues you may have. If you can, take his class.
Great teacher. I've taken Chemistry at Clemson with other professors and he is by far the most helpful and the best teacher. He puts all his PowerPoints online which is a huge help. I really suck at Chemistry but I had him in 101 and 102 and made a pretty decent grade because of him.
He's a great professor! I came to Clemson with AP credit and with an interest in chemistry, but I still viewed this class as just a requirement. He makes it interesting and is very clear on every topic, and gives TONS of practice problems with the study guides that are like the problems on the tests. TAKE HIM!
He is super helpful, he prints out an outline to take notes on and he puts up video lectures on all the material so you dont always have to go to class, but he helps you understand what he teaches and is super good about students needing help. Definitely take him!
TAKE HIM OVER EVERYONE ELSE! He posts an outline of lecture notes online and posts video lectures if you need to go back and have a concept explained again. He gives optional study guide problems--DO THEM!!! As long as you put in effort, you should get a B, if not an A. He is the best gen chem professor here HANDS DOWN! PS-NO COMMON EXAMS!
He explains everything such anyone can understand the material. He gives an outline of what he will talk about and posts online lectures that you can reference. Every day of the exam, he has a massive Q&A to help students understand concepts they had trouble with when discussing the chapters and going over the review materials that he provides.
Awesome. He provides all the info that you need to succeed He has a massive info session to review for the test before every test. He works very hard to encourage and help the students that need it.
Dr. Schvaneveldt is seriously great. The guy is a chemistry genius and can explain everything he knows thoroughly. He is a fantastic professor, and if you took AP in high school you will have no trouble.
Great guy. I had AP but still had to take this class, and I'm glad I did. Makes class interesting and fun. He's very helpful if you have any questions, but I didn't have many thanks to the study guides. Take this class.
Gosh, there are no words to describe the awesomeness that Professor Schvaneveldt contains. He is an amazing teacher that is simply one of the kindest people you will ever meet. He is so helpful and only wants you to do well and understand. He should get a Nobel Peace Prize or something...he's fantastic.
He's one of the best teachers I've ever had! He made chemistry fun and I never dreaded his class. He ensures you understand the basics before he moves on to the bigger concepts. He's also hilarious and is very nonchalant about his jokes which makes them that much more funny. TAKE HIM! #SJSForPresident!
Not a difficult professor, tries to make the course understandable. He is a good professor, gen chem is just not the best class in the universe. As far as honors courses go, this wasn't bad. There were MC and free response questions on our tests. That was the only difference. The tests were also ridiculously long, but not particularly difficult.
The BEST professor ever!!! Such a caring guy that really wants you to do well! He gives a study guide after every chapter. Only chemistry professor to make his own tests, which is great! TAKE HIM!!!
Honestly the BEST teacher ive had here at Clemson so far. He really wants to help you learn and he does so in a way thats easy to understand gives you lots of study material and extra credit. He makes his own tests and is a fair teacher. TAKE HIM
He is the most patient, helpful teacher I've ever had. He goes SO far above and beyond doing what he needs to do in order to help students. He's clearly very knowledgable but never makes basic concepts seem too complex. I would recommend him over & over again.
TAKE THIS TEACHER! By far the best Chemistry teacher at Clemson. He is super easy and makes the material simple to learn. He doesn't try to trick you with the material and is always available outside of class too. By far my favorite teacher at Clemson.
BEST chemistry professor at Clemson. I literally hated chemistry and was terrible at it but Schvaneveldt changed that. He's one of the nicest professors on campus, hes always willing to help students and he knows the material too. One of my best decisions at Clemson was taking his class so when you're signing up for classes look for his name!
Dr. Schvaneveldt is an extremely helpful professor. He emphasizes almost every class to come see him in office hours if you have any questions. Covers material slowly and thoroughly and posts lectures online. Takes attendance via iClicker and occasionally has iClicker questions in class but these are easy. Recommend him for any chem class.
TAKE HIM! he's really cool and straight forward. Chem is hard and he knows that and tries to help. Gives practice tests that are so similar to the ones he gives. awesome guy!!!
He is a very good teacher. His lectures are easy to follow, and he provides plenty of practice to do well on exams.
Dr. Schvaneveldt (pronounced like "Roosevelt" but with "Swan") is an amazing professor! You print his notes and then fill them in during lecture. He uses excellent color coding, making the class easy to follow! This man is very passionate about chemistry, something that is hard to find. The exams are just like the practice tests, so an A is easy!
Chem 102 is hard, no getting around that. But Dr Schvaneveldt is the best chem professor at Clemson. Always willing to help, and posts lectures online. Provides lots of study material. Sometimes in lecture I would get lost because he talked fast and explains things mathematically, but overall good professor and nice guy.
He is absolutely wonderful! I never thought I could understand chemistry this well. He is always willing to help, and his lecture notes and practice exams will definitely help you get an A in the class. I couldn't have asked for a better chemistry professor. TAKE HIM!
By far the best Chemistry professorteacher I've ever had. Definitely would recommend
Probably the best teacher I've had at Clemson. He creates video lectures and study guides in addition to the notes he creates for classes. He also is readily available outside of class for anything. He truly cares about his students and offers you every resource you need to succeed. Attendance is essentially extra credit.
BEST chem professor at Clemson. However, I wish I had known earlier that the final for CH 1020 is cumulative including everything from CH 1010. Since I came in with AP credit (3 on the exam), I struggled on the final, but made two A'sone B on his exams. An A is attainable, but you have to work. Do your homework! And I never opened the textbook...
Dr. Schvaneveldt is a fantastic professor. He explains concepts in a way that can be easily understood and will help you whenever you ask. The tests are very hard, and you really have to spend a lot of time learning all of the different rules for the concepts.
I had the same material in highschool chem, so this class was a breeze. It'll be one of the easiest A's you can get as long as you have the material crystal-clear. He has a great sense of humor and is always willing to help out. His lectures are very clear and he posts them online! Definitely the most fun professor I've had. Take him!!
By far my favorite professor! I took his online class and passed this class EASILY. I retook this class because I got a D in the first semester and came out of his class with an A. His lectures are SO clear and he provides notes to follow along while he teaches. His examples make the class a breeze! I recommend him to EVERYONE who needs CH101.
Clear lectures and he will stop to answer questions. Always willing to help students after class or during office hours. Gives study guides. Online lectures from his summer class are posted on Blackboard, which are the same as in-class lectures - so if you miss one, it's okay. Minimal homework. Small attendance grade from iClicker use in class.
Dr. Schvaneveldt is great. He teaches a hard class, and the tests are a bit difficult, but he provides notes, study guides, and practice tests, so as long as you study you will be fine. He is extremely nice and helpful. He has a lot of open office hours where he will help you until you understand, and he gives you everything you need to succeed.
One of my best professors. He's clear in his lectures but they can drag on, and he provides a lot of practice and previous exams to study with. You don't need the textbook unless you really want it, he covers everything in the notes. It's also clear that he's really interested in chemistry and invites you to ask him more in depth if you'd like.
Great professor. I would definitely take him again for any chemistry classes that I have in the future.
I'll be honest, I fell asleep in more of his lectures than I'm proud of, but I still thought Dr. Schvaneveldt's lectures were excellent. His emails can be pretty funny as well. I enjoyed his class and recommended him to all my friends. Great guy
Dr. S is one of the best professors I have had at Clemson. He is super helpful and provides fill in the blank notes that are super helpful in addition to video lectures of all of the topics. If you pay attention in class and take time with the lecture videos, you should do fine.
Professor Schvaneveldt is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. I struggled in high school with chemistry very badly, but in his class I'm making in the mid 90's. He's so clear on what he wants you to know and gives multiple practice problems as well as study guides. He teaches both lectures and online classes. Would definitely recommend
Definitely take Schvaneveldt for Gen Chem if you can -- best Chemistry professor I've ever had. Schvaneveldt is a really good guy and loves to teach. His lectures are clear and to the point. Prepares you well for tests. He definitely knows his stuff.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU NEED TO TAKE CHEM 101!!!!! I cannot stress this enough, but you will thank me later. All of my friends struggled in chem 1 lecture, but taking it online helped me so much. Also Schvaneveldt is an excellent teacher and makes things clear, and is there to help you if you need it.
Currently taking him now online for summer. Very kind man who is extremely helpful and easy to understand. So glad I took online, it was much easier to understand when you can pause the video. He also gave out extra credit on HW. Watch all the videos, work out all the practice exams and you will easily get a B in his lecture if not an A.
Difficult to stay awake, but his lectures are thorough and give a lot of information. Many study materials are given to help do well on tests. Good professor.
super easy fill in/worksheet notes for every lecture. very helpful and approachable
Schvaneveldt is the BEST professor I have had so far at Clemson. I'm in no way a chemistry person, but he is willing to work with you and help you out. Take advantage of office hours and the study guides. BEST PROF EVER!!
Dr. Schvaneveldt is really good at explaining things. He is very accessible outside of class. I wish I would've taken his online course because the lectures seemed so long, but he really tries to keep you involved in the learning. Attendance isn't really mandatory because he allows many absences. Great CH1020 professor.
Schvaneveldt is amazing!!!! And he truly cares about your success in the class. His lectures can be boring but when you listen to the videos he makes things so easy to understand. Also a big help during office hours. Gives extra credit on the homework. He is very nice, and tends to be funny at times. He is also very understanding.
He is an amazing teacher! You can tell that he genuinely wants everyone to succeed, and is always willing to go out of his way to help everyone understand the material. There is an attendance grade, but you can miss a few classes and still get a 100 for that. He is very engaging, and the lectures are really good.
Lectures were relevant and interesting, managed to make an insane amount of material easily manageable. Granted, he expects you to study hard since most of the grade is exams, but so long as you do, you're good
Dr. S is one of Clemson's best lecturers. He is very knowledgeable and makes lectures interesting. Chemistry 102 can be a hard class, but use his knowledge to help you. He gives study guides before every exam. These are essential for success on his exams. If you can do the study guides, there is no reason you shouldn't pass the class.
Dr. Schvanevelt is by far the best gen chem professor. Don't buy the book, I never even opened it, just go to class as all of the material is covered in his lectures. Also he posts online lecture videos and you can miss upwards of 5 classes, but I recommend going. ACS final is pretty hard, but he writes the other exams that are insanely easy!
Dr. S is very helpful with anything you have problems with. Funny guy. You don't really need a textbook (there's a free one that they use online). Just do your work and study and you'll most likely get a C or B!
Stephen is a great as an online teacher, and also in-class from what I've heard. The general chemistry courses are made to be hard at Clemson, but he really tries to teach concepts in a way that is easier to understand. He uses printed notes, takes attendance through email(for online), and has open office hours. Would definitely recommend!
Professor Schvaneveldt is easily one of the best professors I've ever had. I took the online version, yet he was readily available at any given second that I needed help. Tests were super easy as long as you did the study guides and paid attention to the lectures. He gives tons of partial credit and is a funny guy.
great teacher. get him if you struggle at all with chemistry. he breaks it down barney style.
Schvaneveldt is a great professor if you have not already taken AP Chemsitry in high school. I took AP chemistry and was bored out of my mind in class, and skipped a lot with no problem. All of the lectures are also online if you can't make it to class, and he has great office hours and sometimes extra help sessions
He is a great lecturer and really knows his stuff. He is super approachable, funny, and always willing to help. Homework is simple and light, and he builds in so much extra credit that your homework grade should be a 100. Come to class, do the study guides, and put in a reasonable amount of effort studying and it's an easy A.
He is honestly the best teacher if your a good student. If you dont go to class he notices and takes attendance every day and it plays a role in your grade. I went to his office hours twice a week and it was so worth it. Super super helpful.
Best chemistry professor I have ever had. If you get chemistry, this class is a breeze because he explains everything so well. I would take him again a million times. I feel as though I learned alot because of him.
Prof. Schvaneveldt was a great chem professor. This was my 2nd time taking the class and I learned so much more with him than with my 1st professor. He is very willing to help you outside of class. Sapling for homework. Holds review sessions on saturdays before the test. He curves the final and I think the final class average.
Easily best chem prof. Take him!!!! He's a great guy and great professor. Lectures are simple and tests not too bad if you work the older exams.
Great professor that I wish I could have for future chemistry classes. He teaches an online class so he posts videos of all of his lectures online and it is really helpful to be able to look back on. He is also very effective at explaining all of the concepts and is available outside of class if you need extra help.
Loved him!
There isn't much to say about it, if you can take him, take him. Great professor, fantastic lectures. Clear tests (which he writes) and lenient for most things.
Best professor I've had at Clemson. A fantastic lecturer who is very good at explaining the material and if you don't understand he is very easy to get in touch with outside of class. Tests are very straightforward about what you need to know and he gives out old exams which are very similar.
Dr. S is fantastic and I highly recommend taking his class. I was initially worried about taking chemistry online because I'm not good at it, but he made it easy to understand and if you need help with literally anything, he is always available. He is very nice and easy to talk to, and even if he isn't in office hours he usually makes time for you.
If you are taking this class, you better take this man. Awesome teacher with good lectures. very accessible outside of class and is just a good man overall.
I dreaded taking Chem, but as soon as I got this professor, my whole mental state changed. I took the online class and it was easy. Lectures are key!! His practice tests are very similar to the actual tests he gives. Chem is usually a common exam, but the online class is given tests written by our teacher. I highly recommend Professor Schvaneveldt.
Take him online for Chem 1010! He made chem so easy! He posts online lecture recordings that you do as you please. His practice exams are just like the real exam, so as long as you understand the practice, you will make a 100%. Very willing to meet with students during office hours!
Dr. Schvaneveldt was an incredible teacher. He posts all of his lectures online so you can rewatch them if you miss a class. He makes study guides that are incredibly helpful for his tests USE THEM. If you take the honors section, work all the practice problems he gives you, the test questions are similar. He is super approachable.
Great man! I wish I could have him as my professor for the rest of my chemistry classes. He has great outlines for notes and genuinely cares that you learn and do well in the course. Highly recommend.
He truly cares about you and your success. Uses guided notes to help you learn and keep up. Truly a great guy
He teaches the material in class and he also makes available online lectures so that students can go back and watch them just in case they miss something in class. If you put effort into the study guides then you will do well on test. Make sure to do the homework and come to class because they can help boost your grade. He's a great guy!
You can't complain when you don't do well in this class because Schvaneveldt is such a great teacher who breaks down hard material into simple terms with plenty of examples. Really easy to get help from if you're struggling and also holds really helpful review sessions. Only issue is lectures can be somewhat dry and will go until the last minute.
He is a great professor and easy to access outside of class. He gives clear study guides that reflect what will be on exams. It is a very difficult class if you don't have a strong chemistry background. He teaches until the very last minute so don't expect to get out early.
Dr. Schvaneveldt is one of the most well-prepared, well-spoken professors I have had. He genuinely wants his students to succeed. He provides his own notes, study guides, and online lectures for all of his students. Always thrilled to help during office hours, knows exactly what he's talking about, and understands when students have difficulties.
Always ask questions right after lecture ends, and go to his office hours right before a test because he will make the information click in your head! As long you look over the study guide and his practice tests, you should be fine.
He was a good professor and helped outside of class a ton. Gen chem was still tough, but he tried to make sure you succeeded and was very understanding. Also, I hadnt seen him since my freshman year and ran into him this semester, and he remembered me and said hello. So, I think that shows how he cares about his students as well.
Definitely take Schvaneveldt if you get the chance. His lectures are clear and coherent and he teaches the material in an order that makes sense and helps you make connections between the different chapters. If you do the practice exams he posts you will get an A on the exams. He has to be the best gen chem professor in the department.
Dr. Schvaneveldt's lectures were easy to follow and very helpful. He posted videos of his lectures online, plus a lot of other helpful resources if students need extra practice. I found that completing the questions on his study guides and doing practice exams really prepared me for the tests.
Chemistry is obviously hard for a lot of people, but Schvaneveldt gives lots of examples and practice. He will answer any questions you have and you can tell he really enjoys chemistry.
Super nice man! Wants people to understand and is always available to work through problems with you. He has been teaching the same lessons for years, so he puts them online if you miss. His tests aren't super hard, but the final is cumulative over chem 1 & 2 and is made by another agency, not the teachers, so it is very hard but heavily curved.
He really cares about the success of his students. He does his best to give you partial credit as much as possible and is always accessible and willing to help. He records lectures and puts them online for you to access and is flexible about attendance. Super kind and funny, makes chemistry enjoyable. Always tries to curve the grades in your favor
Definitely the best chemistry professor at Clemson. His Honors section was fantastic. Wants all of his students to succeed & understand the material. Great lectures in class & video lectures if you need to review something. Super helpful in office hours. Tests are short answer but partial credit helps a ton. Highly recommend taking his class!!!
He was a great professor. Attendance is technically mandatory, but he is very flexible with absences. His lectures are online and are just filling out guided notes. Tests are short answer, but the partial credit is very helpful. He gives a pretty decent curve on the tests. No quizzes and barely any homework. Very helpful when asked questions.
Great guy, good lectures that apply to the material on exams.
Dr. Schvaneveldt is the best professor I've ever had. He was extremely helpful and made the material easy to understand. He would send out fill in lecture notes so all you would have to do is show up to class and fill in the blank. There were no weekly quizzes and very little homework.
Best professor I've ever had!! I've always been good at science, but his explanation made things make even MORE sense. I will try to take him for any other chem class I need!
Dr. Schvaneveldt is a great teacher. He explains chemistry concepts so simply and clearly. He does plenty of examples and does them in a way that makes sure to capture the key concept he is conveying. If you want to actual learn, I highly recommend him.
He has printed notes that are absolutely amazing. If you go to class and take thorough notes, and do the study guides he gives, you will pass. Chemistry is a hard course so don't expect an A unless you work for it, but he is so willing to help students so definitely see him for help!
Best professor I've ever had. If you show up to class, pay attention, and do the study guides, you can pass no doubt. His lectures are simple and easy to understand. He has flexible office hours and is always willing to help. It's very possible to get an A if you put in the effort and ask questions when you are confused. 10/10 a great professor!!
One of my favorite professors from this year! Chem is a hard subject but Professor Schvaneveldt teaches it in a way this is pretty straight forward and easy to understand. He is also super available outside of class and will meet with you for Office Hours at almost any time. There is only a little bit of online homework that is not super difficult.
one of the BEST professors I have ever had. truly this man is SO amazing and caring, and he is a phenomenal professor. He won't let you leave his office without making sure you understand what you're confused on. he is encouraging and so sweet. I would take chem classes every semester just to be in his class again.
Schvaneveldt was one of my favorite professors. His lectures follow his notes really well and he provides lots of practice material similar to the tests. He's very accessible outside of class. Utilize office hours if you need help because the chances are after walking out of his office, you'll understand way better and he's nice about giving help.
This man is amazing, the best chemistry professor at this university! The most well-spoken and put together lectures, and he actually wants you to succeed. If you can take the majors section, take it! Tests are harder and open response but lots of partial credit. Stephen is an icon.
This man is the best prof I have ever experienced. Simply Iconic. Even though the topics weren't always easy, he made it a good time. The majors section scares you by saying that the tests are free response, but the partial credit he gives for it makes it a lot better. An amazing man. I honestly would retake his class purely to have him again.
He is hands down the best chem prof. I'm really not good at chem and I got an A in his class. He gives you notes to fill out for lectures and really wants you to succeed. As long as you listen to lectures, take the notes, and study, you will do well. I've never heard chem be explained more clearly and he is always down to help if you're confused.
Schvaneveldt is easily the best professor. Chem 2 is a very difficult class, but his teaching methods make it understandable. He used correlating study guides, and old tests for practice. Dont take this class if you dont need to simply because its pretty difficult, however Schvaneveldt is the way to go. A lot of work if you want an A.
Dr Schvaneveldt is such an amazing professor. His lecture videos and notes prepare you for each exam very very well. He is always accessible for office hours and really wants you to succeed! If you do the work you'll get an A. Would highly recommend taking him.
Easily the most caring and accessible teacher during these hard times. He will fight for you to get the grade you deserve.
Great professor. Available for office hours almost all day every week. For the online sections, his "classes" are not mandatory and are pretty much office hours and he posts lectures with the actual information, with guided notes, that are very helpful. If you know everything in the guided notes, you'll ace the exams.
Schvaneveldt is an amazing dude, I completely understood everything in the class. There are a lot of online lectures which can prove to be daunting because you are expected to do them on your own time (I am a procrastinator), but those who watched the lectures and printed out the detailed notes to fill in during the lectures did very well.
He really loves chemistry and helping students better understand the subject. He doesn't over-explain or under-explain. He is to be the BEST general chemistry professor at Clemson.
He is seriously the best chem professor there is. I did so well in this class only because of him. His lectures are at the perfect level to understand the concepts as easy as possible. If I did not understand something I always went to office hours and he would spend as long as I needed helping me. He sets you up great for all exams.
Professor Schvaneveldt is the best professor I have ever had. I genuinely think he is skilled enough to go to a middle school and explain college chemistry in a way where even they could understand and learn it. He is also a great guy and very helpful when I had to fall behind in class due to personal reasons. 10/10
Amazing professor! He gives great guided notes and really wants all his students to pass. He is very available outside of class and has office hours all the time. I definitely recommended him and would absolutely take him again!!
Chemistry is a difficult course, but Dr. Schvaneveldt simplifies the material to make it very easy to digest. He has printable notes that you can fill in that gives you fantastic structure/study material for exams. For someone to make difficult concept like buffers seem simple is a truly great professor. There should be no doubt to take him.
The only reason I made this account was to share how amazing Professor Schvaneveldt is. If you follow and pay attention during the notes, do the study guide questions, and go by office hours when struggling, it is an easy B if your lab grade is average. Best professor I have every had.
Best professor Ive had!! I hate chemistry but he explain concepts in a way that students can actually understand and obtain the information. If you arent great at chemistry, sign up for his class!!
The only way I did well in chemistry was because of Professor Schvaneveldt. He made chemistry so easy to understand and simplified it to a basic level. He is always willing to answer questions and is so easy to talk to. You need to put in work because chemistry is difficult but he is the professor that prepares us the best and teaches the best.
The Best Chemistry Prof Ever. He makes difficult concepts so easy to understand. He really loves teaching. Tip- Do the Study Guide! It will make your life so easy. Once you have done that just do practice papers he puts out before exam. The class would be an easy A.
He is the best Chemistry professor at Clemson
Best chemistry professor at Clemson.
I took his class for Chem 1010 and did everything I could to ensure I got him for 1020 which I am in right now. He still is the best professor I have ever had in every aspect. There is no teacher that cares more about their students doing well than him and that is really helpful in a class like chemistry.
Super understanding and awesome guy. His online lectures are also super useful if you miss class and if you listen to his advice you'll do fine
If you have the chance, you should 100% take him. He makes the material so easy to understand and he really cares about his students and their understanding of the material. He is almost always available and is so helpful. This man has my whole heart and I would recommend him to literally everyone.
If you want to pass just show up to lectures, & DO THE STUDY GUIDES WITH ENOUGH TIME. He's amazing!!! 10000/10, he just wants you to understand the material. With COVID still being around it was easier to skip class because he posted his lecture videos, so for future semesters, I'm not sure if you'll have access to the videos. Go to office hours!!
I would say he is the best choice for chem. I had him for 1 & 2 and he explains the material well. His test questions tend to be the reverse of what he taught and he really makes sure you understand the material not memorize. Recommend the online section because you have all lecture videos on canvas. Provides lots of study resources. Great prof
He's super nice and always available outside of class to help you with any questions. His lectures can get quite boring, but he is great at explaining things. He makes his own notes, so that is also super helpful.
The best chemistry professor EVER. He explains all the material thoroughly and clearly and will never make you feel dumb for asking questions. I would never have gotten an A in chem if it wasn't for him.
The best professor you could ever choose for chem. I really struggle with chem but he made it so understandable. He has open office hours so you can stop by whenever and is always willing to make one on one appointments too. Hell help you get the grade you want. Its impossible to fail his class unless youre just not trying.
I really enjoyed Professor Schvaneveldt. He teaches chemistry in a way that is very understanding. He gives points back on his exams, and if you put in the effort he will give you a good grade.
This man is amazing. He is a great teacher, and you would be lucky to have him. With COVID still sort of going on, he has Office Hours basically throughout the day if you need help on Zoom when he is not teaching. He answers questions very well and teaches in a way that just made sense to me! Three exams with a final that is state-wide. SO GREAT!
Take him!
I took the online chem class which was my fault from the beginning but Schvaneveldt has an AMAZING video voice and was super easy to follow along. He reminded me of watching crash course. Lots of examples, just do the work and dont waste last minute to study. The tests are standardized so he had no control over their difficulty.
Easily one of the best chemistry professors at Clemson. Heard so many horror stories about others.
Probably my favorite chemistry professor so far. Gives printed notes that clearly explain everything you need to know for exams.
Schvanny is the GOAT of chemistry
Dr. Schvaneveldt is an amazing professor for chemistry. He made the material so easy to understand that I got over 100% on every exam and a 100% on the final. You will be successful if you put the work in.
Professor Schvaneveldt is an incredible professor. If you pay attention in lecture and complete the study guides he gives you, you will ace the exams. What you see is what you get on the exams in his class. He does a great job catering to different learning styles and is very nice. I would recommend him a million times he was amazing.
This professor is really kind and cares about your grade in the class. When I ran into issues he helped me sort through them as much as he could. There are a lot of lectures, but they are actually interesting and easy to follow. The homework is easy and allows for multiple attempts.
Dr. Schvaneveldt is deserving of every good rating he has and then some! Best chemistry professor I've ever had; makes me so happy to be a chemistry major! Super lenient grading on exams (free response for chem majors). He does an amazing job of explaining things in-depth but not dumbing things down/dragging on. The BEST professor!
He is such a good teacher, I definitely recommend him because he explains things so clearly! Plus he is always open to get clarification. In addition to this, he offers study guides and practice exams that are the same level as the actual exam or harder so the exams seem easier! If you can, please take him!
This is the BEST chemistry professor at Clemson. He teaches material in depth. He is very approachable and always ready to help. His exams reflect his lectures in class. You will have to put in effort and pay attention, but it is very worth it for the rigor of chemistry 2. Easily one of the best professors I have had, 100% recommend!
Really great teacher and helps students as much as possible
By far the best professor I have taken at Clemson so far. I really enjoyed his lectures and he is genuinely such a nice man. I would 100% recommend him to anyone taking chemistry.
He is a really great professor. He explains things thoroughly and provides videos for anything you may not have understood in class. If you actually do the study guides, he provides daily you will do great on the tests.
Dr. Schvaneveldt is hands down the best professor. He truly cares and wants everyone to succeed. His lecture videos are very through and easy to follow with his lecture guides. He has great office hours and is available literally anytime of day. During finals week he was accessible until 10pm. 10 out of 10!
Dr. Schvaneveldt is the best professor I have had. He relates the concepts to real world applications and compares tough concepts to things that are easily understood. Switch out of any other class to take him if needed!
I took his class during the summer and he makes it as easy as possible to cram that much material into a may-mester class. He goes through the printed notes with you in class and makes studying easy with study guides.
Dr. Schvaneveldt is great. He has prewritten notes that you fill in during class. He posts lots of practice problems. Tests are the most important grade, but the practice problems prepare you well. He posts lectures online if you are unable to go to class or want to rewatch him explain a topic.
He is AMAZING. This class is very hard but it was so much more manageable with Dr. Schvaneveldt. He is very smart and does everything possible to help us. He gave us guided notes which is unheard of for the chemistry department, and I never felt like I couldn't reach out for help. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
The shining light of the Clemson Chemisty Department. His lectures and notes were very concise and easy to understand. I took an online section and even with that he was still incredibly accessible and responded quickly. Has a ton of office hours and is extremely helpful if you go and ask for help with concepts you don't understand.
I honestly hate chemistry and really enjoyed this class! His lectures/notes are very straightforward and easy to understand. Attendance is technically required, but is weighted very lightly and he posts recorded lectures online. He is always available for questions after class or during office hours and will ensure that you understand the material.
The best chem prof at Clemson by far. I had him online but lectures were amazing and easy to understand. Tests were similar to lectures and homework. He is extremely caring and wants the best for his students.
He lightened the mood of a difficult topic and made even the 8am section enjoyable. We had no assessments aside from exams and homework, unlike the other professors who gave pop quizzes frequently. He was super helpful and was available frequently for questions and clarification. Definitely take him if you can!
This guy is great. He's sneaky funny and he somehow makes the most boring of subjects interesting and worth getting out of bed for.
Prof. Schvaneveldt made chem easy. He lectures in ways that are simple and easy to understand. He provides tons of practice problems and study guides to make the exams easy. Im in his online section and would watch his lectures the week before the exam. As long as you watch and do the practice, youll do good. Wish I could have him for every class.
For being chem this wasn't too bad of a class. There were no quizzes and minimal smartwork homework. Tests are the same as in person lectures. There's a ton of videos you have to watch so if you're bad at time management don't even bother with the online section. He's super reachable outside of class and makes hard concepts easier to understand.
I was nervous for chemistry because of the horror stories I had heard about the Clemson Chem department; however, he is an exception. He makes difficult concepts manageable and is always willing to help. He has office hours almost all day and is a very approachable person. He truly wants to see his students succeed.
I took his asynchronous class and I definitely recommend it if you are good with time management. He uploads lecture videos that have fill in notes to go along with them. He is really good at teaching the material in a way that makes sense. He's really flexible with office hours. Do his practice exams when studying for exams and you'll do good.
literally the only chem professor I could learn from. his asynchronous class worked great for me as i was able to pace myself and give myself the time to learn the material. he is also v accessible outside of his videos through zoom, really helpful and does things step by step. i would esp. recommend him if you're retaking gen chem!
AWESOME TEACHER! Dr. Schvaneveldt goes above and beyond to help you be successful. Taking his online class was a life-saver b/c it allowed me to review lectures at my own pace. He is always available to help and is never condescending. He is available until very late in the evening leading up to exams and shows up before tests to answer questions.
I'm not even done with his course yet but just have to say that his teaching style is AMAZING! You can actually tell that he cares & doesn't rush through the material. He makes a ton of real life analogies of topics which is really useful, & provides a lot of helpful resources!
This professor is so kind and will go out of his way to help students understand chem and excel on exams. He is easily accessible outside of class and writes his own exams so you know what to expect. He uses real world examples in most of his lectures in order to make the confusing material a little bit easier to understand. Would take again!
Take him!!!! He is awesome. I have several friends in 1020 who are failing with other professors but he explains things so easily and provides study guides for every chapter that are super helpful for the exam. I'm in his online section so I just have to watch lecture videos which are made so well. I got As in chem 1 and 2 with him!
He is very funny and engaging in class relates things to real world so that it's easy to understand. Will make you watch lecture videos outside of class if you don't get to it in lecture. Chem in general is hard but he makes it better.
Schvaneveldt is the best professor for CH 1020. He makes the material very understandable and he is literally ALWAYS available to help you work on a problem or give tutoring. He holds his office hours on zoom so he is very accessible. He is a very nice guy and it is clear that he truly has a passion for chemistry. I 100% recommend taking his class!
I took CH1020 online and Prof Schvaneveldt made the material so easy to understand. He posts videos of him explaining every concept and doing the notes with you. On exam days, online students can attend in-person review days where he answers all questions before the exam. Super accessible and best professor/teacher I've ever had.
He teaches good and everything. He has online office hours and in person if you need help. For this class, practice early and practice a lot. The tests don't make or break you but you have to know most of the stuff. Every test is curved too.
He is probably the best gen chem professor Clemson has. As long as you pay attention to his lectures, the material will be easy to follow. The material is hard, but he will do his absolute best to help you understand. Would 100% have him as a professor again!
He will tell you exactly how to get an A if you just put the work in. All of the homework is due at the end of the unit and most grades are based off tests. He's very good at explaining things and made me like chemistry.
He is a great professor, Chemistry just isn't my thing. If you're asynchronous then attendance is based on the videos you watch. You'll pass as long as you talk to him and put in the effort. His videos are broke down into many short videos which are easy. He is very caring and makes listening lectures easy. He provides notes to follow along with.
He is very caring and is the best at teaching chem. I failed chem and retook it with him and passed. Attendance is the lecture videos and has zoom office hours almost daily for long periods. Chem is hard but he makes it very understandable. Take him!!!!
Professor Schvaneveldt makes the notoriously tough Chem 1010 class manageable. His engaging lectures, accessible office hours, and helpful study aids like unstuckstudy AI make learning the material straightforward. Definitely take this class if you want to excel in Gen Chem.
failed chem 1 first time around and then got a high b for him second time around, im in his chem 2 and he actually makes it understandable. Very hard class but he is the best professor to have for it... also very accessible and understanding and if you do what he says you'll do well in his class
He's the best prof at Clemson. I had him for both1010/1020. He taught me everything I know about chem, believed in me after other prof failed me. Before being diagnosed ADHD, he knew I was trying very hard and helped so much. Got As and mastered chem and now finishing Orgo, took mcat, now applying for Med school. Thank you Dr. S, you are the best!
He's great! If you don't want to go into class, you can just watch the lectures online, because he structures the Canvas page the same as the online version. You have to sign up for Mastering, but you will never actually get a homework assignment. Failed chem 2 the first time, now have an A. Tests are the only grades, but he curves like 10 points.
Best chem professor. Extremely accessible outside of class and very willing to help. Lectures were easy to understand, and each chapter has guided notes. There is plenty of material to study, and there are videos for every lecture as well. During hurricane Helene dude said he would drive and deliver gas, food, and water to anyone who needed it.
THE exception to the horrible chem department. One of the best professors I've ever had. Actually cares for the students and genuinely wants everyone to succeed. Very understanding professor. I'm retaking Ch 1020 so he's my 3rd gen chem professor and genuinely the only good part of the chem department in my opinion.
He has been the best professor I have taken at Clemson and made the information for both Chem 1020 and Chem 1010 easy to understand. I took his class online, so I was able to watch his lectures at my own speed and found this worked well. He is always on office hours and ready to help and is an amazing teacher.
Very chill man, his office hours are super helpful if you have any question. I had previously taken AP Chem going into the class and he explained the concepts so well. A lot of chem II concepts tie into orgo (especially acids and bases) and I feel like the foundation I got from this course helped me
THE BEST prof at Clemson !! If you have to take chem, trust me he's the prof. You want to take! He saved me chem wise, his lectures make chemistry so easy he is definitely caring and gives the best feedback. With his guidance I went from getting 45s on my chem exams to getting 92s!!!
Best chem prof at Clemson. Make sure you don't procrastinate the material by following the pacing guide. He is the best at explaining hard concepts in understandable ways, would recommend his teaching style to everyone. I feel prepared for all the exams by using his study guides and the past exams.
Chemistry is such a hard class but I think I might end up with an A since I took Professor S. His online course is very easy to follow with videos broken down into short sections and great explanations. 3 exams and final, very very minimal hw. Gives study guides and old exams as a study tool that accurately reflect the exams. Take him!!!
I took Mr. Schvaneveldt's online course and it is very easy to follow, with videos broken down into short sections and great explanations. There are 3 exams and a final. There is almost no homework. He gives study guides and old exams as a study tool that help prep for the exams.
Best professor at Clemson! If you can, please take my king Schvany 🙏.
Best Chem professor at Clemson. I took his class online, and he made hard topics easy to understand. The chemistry department at Clemson is actually god awful, but Schvaneveldt makes it better.
His online class is very nice as you can rewind when you struggle with certain concepts. Sometimes he dances around concepts which makes things harder to understand but his study guides/resources are UNMATCHED and he is always accessible on zoom office hours. Will finish with A high B or an A in this class. Go to PALS and office hours!!!!!
The professor was amazing and always accessible on zoom office hours. There was little to no homework and he made his own exams. He had guided notes, posted lecture videos, and had study guides for each exam. Overall, he helped me understand tough topics and was always available to explain difficult concepts. I learned a lot!
One of the best Chemistry professors! He wanted to see all of his students succeed. He is a very open person and would tell us what we needed to know for exams. I would take any class from him again!
He is very intelligent and accesiable outside of class. However, his lectures are a bit all over the place. He talks around the subject, and says what it is not, and yapps alot. He is incredibley smart, but he is not great at teaching per se. I would not recomend him. Take Delach, Choi, or Hickman instead.
Prof. Schvaneveldt is hands down one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes chemistry easy to understand. He makes his own exams so what he tells you is going to be on the exam will be there. I personally do not find his study guides very helpful, but the practice exams are. He is also very lenient with grading.
Schvaneveldt is the absolute best! His lectures are amazing. He gives you guided notes and completes them along with you so it's so easy to get every bit of information down. Barely any outside work such a chill class. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Schvaneveldt is genuinely one of my favorite professors I've ever had, and I took his class online. He is readily available for office hours and made a very difficult subject digestible and easy to understand. His video lectures are accessible to in-person students as well. I would absolutely take him again and suggest him for CH1020
👍 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Professor Schvaneveldt was an amazing teacher who gave his lectures in person, provided guided notes, and rarely gave out any homework. Also his study guides were very helpful.
Professor Schvaneveldt is hands down the BEST chem professor at Clemson. Even though chemistry is hard, he was able to make chemistry easy to understand. He does use iClicker for attendance, but his lectures are helpful, so go.
Literally the best, explains concepts well, always available outside class and responds to emails, actually wants you to do well and have a good grade. I took online section and loved it because lecture videos were so helpful and he has office hours basically any time of day. Exams are exactly like in class practice.
such a good professor. attendance was mandatory and he uses iclicker but also has videos posted on every topic. took me multiple times to pass chem 1 and passed chem 2 my first try with him. explains things well and honestly if you study even a little before the exam you'll do fine. told us exactly what was on each exam and didn't give too much hw
Schvaneveldt is truly a genius at teaching. His online videos are incredibly intuitive and provide a lot of examples for understanding. Lecture notes are extremely useful with the videos so take good notes and listen to everything he says! Available pretty much all the time for questions. Practice exams are extremely helpful for test preparation.
