TOUGH GRADER, TOUGH GRADER, TOUGH GRADER, TOUGH GRADER. It seems impossible to get an A on any assignment. I've spent way more time in this class working on trying to get a good grade compared to other classes and my grade does not improve. There are a lot of assigned readings and quizzes over the course. The conversations held in class can be very interesting, and if you need to take a philosophy class I would definitely try to get Setman as your professor. As long as you show up, and do your work, you will get a very good grade in this class.

If philosophy is secondary to you like it is for me (Finance major), Dr. Setman will make you appreciate the discipline without overwhelming you with unnecessary work. His class goes deeply into topics, using readings that push you to be involved, but that aren't too much for a 1 level class. Overall really appreciated this class and Dr. Setman.

Overall, this class is pretty interesting. Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday you will have a five point quiz on an assigned reading. The questions can be broad, but he allows you to do annotations to get points back. The only thing that seemed challenging for me and other students were the workshops; tough grading but he allows for revisions.

Dr. Setman is a decent professor. He obviously loves philosophy and wants to share that with the class. The quizzes and assigned readings every class will use up your prints. Attendance is mandatory, but the workload is light for this class. There are only three papers and a final project-- no exams. If you need a philosophy course, take Setman.

The class itself was very interesting, and the material was interesting to think about. But Professor Seaman does not allow to class discussions to go very far, as he instantly shuts down what others are thinking. He is a tough grader on writing assignments but one you understand how he grades them, it is easier to do better.
