He's very funny and easy to get along with. The class is very engaging and I enjoyed every minute of it. Easily my favorite class so far, you WILL NOT regret taking abnormal psych with him. He does use the book at times to look at different diagnostic criteria but it isn't required as the slides are often on Blackboard with excerpts from the book

Hands down, the most fascinating psych prof I've had. He shares real stories to have a better understanding of the subject & gives extra credit if you participate even with a question. I bought the book but never used it because his lectures are super detailed but they aren't available outside of class so pay attention! He's sarcastic, yet genuine.

He's who you'll want to build a relationship with if you're going into social work or psychology. He shares his experiences to help you understand the material and give incredible feedback on quizzes. His lectures are incredibly detailed so write down everything he says because they won't be available outside of class. He deserves more credit.

Stephen Smith is a Social Worker at an ED so he has years of experience in the field and it shows. He cares greatly about his students and helps them to succeed with his guidance. He wants his students to find the answers to their own questions which helps build confidence and understand the coursework. I highly recommend Stephen Smith!

Oof, that's this class's mood. I've never had a class where my enjoyment peaked and hit rock bottom so soon. The quizzes are rough, but all the points come from attendance and participation. I got an A+ by showing up and talking. Steve has a terrible personality. Charming at first but becomes a jerk who grades work based on his feelings not facts.

Very fair, Stephen kept the class interesting. Kept us in the loop with regards to the Corona Virus and continuing in his class. He is very well organized and you always know where you stand in his class. Went over and above when we had to switch to a "Virtual Format". I highly recommend Mr. Smith if you want to be in an organized classroom.

Great guy! I can't recommend him enough. Truly seems to care about students and his lectures are hilarious. He follows the syllabus exactly. He also is very knowledgeable about his field. He really appreciates class involvement, so if that's not your cup of tea... Class lectures with a quiz after each chapter. TLDR: Easy A; Great guy

Steve Smith cares about his students. He takes the time to make sure the material is understood, and updates the power point slides when new info becomes available. I like we had quizzes after each chapter! As a Social Worker Professor Smith is empathic...he has his boots on the ground at his job in ER. Both HSW100 and PSY257 were great.

Funny guy and easy class. Mandatory attendance and you can't be late or your grade suffers. All test based but easy grader and drops your lowest score. Gives good real world knowledge as he worked as a social worker but when he doesn't know an answer to a question he will dance around it and make things up instead of just admitting he was wrong.

Two papers. 1 quiz per unit. Enough late/absences lead to docked points. Participating in class discussions gave extra credit. We had to skip a unit because we lost a couple days to snow days. Assignments were open-note. Slides were well-designed and had all information needed. Would tell interesting stories from when he worked in emergency psych.
