This teacher really knows his stuff. He likes the subject and always cracks corney jokes and says funny things to keep the students involved. He's very interactive, always excepting questions/comments. Besides that, his course is extremely well organized.
Holy Gosh! This man is horrible at teaching...drop at all cost....I say HORRIBLE...you will die in this class with this man as an instructure...

If you are majoring in history than this would be a good teacher, BUT if you just NEED this class you are in for a HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE. He expects you to know every little detail and remember ALL OF IT! Don't expect to get an "A" without SUF
He will kill you in his papers and exams, expect you to do alot of work as if you dont have anything expect his class.
Three words HORRIBLE! TERRIBLE! HARD!
This teacher can not take constructive criticism and will make sure you don't do well and will lower your grade at the drop of a hat if you make him angry. Liked him in the begining and ended up hating him!
Okay! Okay! Maybe I judged him too harshly in the last rating. It's the end of the quarter and he turns out to be quite a nice guy! Give him a chance and he will teach you! He is very informative so keep up.
You either like him or hate him. If you enjoy history you will love him because he really knows his stuff. If you hate history you will despise him. Tests and quizzes are okay, but his papers and art tests are tough because he is a tough grader.

Very hard teacher. I remember working my butt off for that class. A lot of material, covers every detail, and most is not in the book because he likes to explain everything to the bone. If you work very hard, can get an A.
Thought it was going to be really tough when I got my 1st quiz back with a nasty "D", but mid-way threw the quarter I had a better grasp of what he was looking for. He is a nice guy who is willing to help. Ask questions, show up for class, you'l
will work you hard but fair

He seemed real tough in the beginning, but once you learn his style you are almost gaurunteed at least a B. The quiz questions are straight from the book. The informatoin for the arts tests can be found online. The lecture tests are asking you to regurgitate a chapter from the book. Not that hard.
lots of work in this class compared to some of the other hum111 instructors, however, i did get an a in the class and i think the guy has very in depth discussions. if you want to learn a lot this is the instructor to take. if you dont like to write, this is the wrong instructor to take :) overall a very fair instructor.
awesome teacher! you have to show up to class and do your homework (DO NOT do it the day your quiz is!!) very fair & helpfull teacher. Knows what he is talking about!
He grades harder than need be on the quizzes. I did all the review questions to prepare but he looks for even the smallest details and never seems to be happy with the answer. His hard grading continues on the midterm and final. He does atleast detail exactly what he's looking for in all the work assigned and isn't a bad person.
What a****ty teacher, I've never had a worse teacher. He makes interesting parts of history boring. I got a good grade, but only because of my own historical knowledge. Above all the worst thing about him is how much his says the word "again." He uses it over 100 times a class. Drop, transfer at all costs, he'll make you hate history.
I was not very interested in history before, during, or after this class. I don't think Timmons was that hard, we only had quizzes, a midterm and a final, all of which were easy. The art lectures were boring..but i used that time to study anatomy.
he is a great teacher, i got an "A" from his class. take him
I do not feel that he understands the process of actually teaching. Teaching is not just say some facts.
Ok that was a little harsh earlier. I think that he is very knowledgeable about the subject but as far as being helpful he really didnt cut it for me. It felt more like he was attacking my opinions. Also big recommendation. Take English before you take his class. It is very helpful on essays.
He inserted my grades wrong online and when I nicely informed him that I have the quizzes graded right in front of me he responded that I was an "idiot" and wrong. No joke, he called me an idiot. He then, in the next email, realized he was wrong and didn't apologize. He just told me that he straightened things out. No class terrible teacher.
He knows alot about history, but he expects too much from his students. You will get a good grade though, if you are a HARD worker, b/c he gives you prompts that will be on the tests and quizzes before you take them. But you have to read the textbook b/c his questions have nothing to do with what he lectures on. Lots of work, but all HUM class are.
Overall, he was a tough teacher. But if you make an effort it is possible to get an "A". He does give alot of work, but he gives all quizzes and test out ahead of time so you can study.
he is pretty tough and honest. but is lectures is out of touch. not organized with respest to the course outline. the book is not necessary and he tend to diverts lectures unparalled way, if u work hard u will get a B
Took his course online and for once felt like the teacher cared. Kind of hard on grading, a lot of work but at the end I felt accomplished. Always helpful with problems.
Professor Timmons is a great professor...if you are willing to put forth the effort. I think he appreciates student's who have some desire and personality in class. I would recommend him because his homework/tests are not difficult...just require a little bit of time!
If you guys want to know the truth is this teacher is so "BORING" in class. Good thing about him is he gives you a review questions that would be in quiz or test ahead. It would be exact questions for quizzes and tests that you took home and review. Another thing there are at least 6 to seven papers to write.
If you don't get and A (or B) its cause youre lazy. He gives you the exact questions word for word for every quiz and exam. Just make sure youre quite thorough with the answers, i just read the parts in the book that had the answer and pretty much paraphrased the book and got 20/20 on every quiz. I think he's a cool teacher, with some dry humor
Dittio what was previously said. He gives you EVERY question you will be tested on. EVERY question is an essay, but still. There is no excuse (maybe if english is not your 1st language)to not get an A. I half-assed it the first 2/3 class, boogied at the end and got a B. He is smart (maybe too smart) and knows/enjoys history. NEED BOOK.recommend him
I actually worked hard to get my B. It overall was not difficult if you just want to pass, a lot of writing involved.
I'm about 100% sure this guy thinks he's teaching at some Grand university. You write a lot of papers, he's oober boring, and the class tends to drag on forever. He mumbles a lot. He grades papers for grammar which is odd being its History class. I took his class and half the class ended up dropping.
The class is a lot of work, but this is expected. You have to write a lot of papers, and theres a quiz just about every week, but he lets you use your notes on quizzes, and the arts test is take home. Good teacher.
you really do have to work for an a and he is not one to help ANYONE out. I attended every class and lecture and he still wouldnt answer my questions. Incredibly arrogant and boring. When he's lecturing, he begins to mumble and you can't hear at all what he's saying. Don't just take notes, record everything he says. Study the textbook!!
I came to class, participated, and got really good grades on all the assignments, quizzes, and exams, but somehow got a B, I worked my butt off! I am an A student, and I have no idea what one has to do to receive an A in this class?!
I took this online and I loved this class and I can not understand how I was the only one in my class to get an A. The information is easy to find, read the book and read the extra readings provided through the website and you can find all of your answers. I loved that he appreciated a student's opinion and wanted us to relate to information.
I took his class online. It's a TON of work, and you spend most of your time writing papers, but he actually looks at them and gives feedback. If you put in the time and are a decent writer you ought to get an A. If you slack off you won't. Simple as that.
I usually make OVER 100% in English & I receive A's on papers in other subjects. Still I had a semi struggle with this class. Although I typically made B's on my (MANY) papers, he would give feedback saying I did an excellent job but....didn't do a great job.(HUH??!) What he wanted in the (MANY essays weren't very clear. I will end with an A or a C
Expects students to actually learn the material. Brilliant as an educator. If you want to actually learn history and develop a new appreciation for art, he's your prof; If you want an easy skate through classes, find another professor.
The actually lectures and material in this class are pretty enjoyable and informative, however this professor is very unclear with his expectations. To say it simply, he is stingy with grades. You may be confident in your papers or essay material, and in Timmon's opinion, a job well done deserves a B. No one will get a 4.0 in his class.
He sucks. Period. His letcures are LONG & BORING ! I deff. picked the wrong teacher for humanities class, history is boring enough and he just made it 10x's worst !
His class is very BORING!! he always tries to make corny jokes and they ARE NOT FUNNY! do NOT recommend this teacher to anyone!
Dr. Timmons is very knowledgeable & is willing to help students. However, if you are expecting to coast through this class you will be disappointed. Timmons expects his students to work hard, & he knows exactly what he wants. However, he does grade fairly.
Hardest class i've ever taken. He's a nice enough guy, but his lectures are very long and detailed for no reason. Most in-class stuff will not be on any test (except art lectures. take notes on those.I found the book work (and there's lots of it) was all he really based tests on, and felt the lectures were just filler because we had to be there.
I despise this teacher. The work is so difficult and lengthy. Expectations are unclear; it is hard to get the hang of how things work in this online course. My final exam was "a well-written essay" and I received a 76% (I apparently had one aspect missing). Very tough grader, I never knew what he wanted from me. Avoid if at all possible.
I thought he was a good teacher. Not the most friendly though. Although he is willing to give you many opportunities with late work, despite how intimidating he is in the beginning. His exams are all essays and the grading is NOT easy on them. Make sure you do the quizzes, journals, and discussions to make up for the midterm grades. Make an effort.
I had him for Hist 1112 and actually kinda enjoyed his dry humor. It is a lot of writing however and he definitely has high standards as far as the work load goes but you know what's expected of you and he gives you the exam questions ahead of time. Just try to summarize the answers in your textbook in your own words and you'll be fine.
This is class is pretty easy but very boring. His class lectures are pointless and you don't need to take notes because they give you no information needed for exams, quizzes. He is a hard grader but i find it hard to believe anyone could fail this class.Everything is out of the books and he lets you do all your work at home prior to exams, quizzes.
The workload is a ton. Usually three assignments (which take me a few hours each) per week. On test weeks you have all of those plus an essay test. I don't even know how many days worth of hours I spent preparing for the tests. If you're up for a difficult course, go for it! However, if you have a pretty bulky schedule I would not recommend it.
I took his online class and I'm pretty sure he'll be the toughest teacher I'll ever have. The tests are unbearable. His feedback and instructions are unclear. He expects things he doesn't ask for. The tests are long essays and you only have 1h 20m to write them. I'm not kidding. I don't recommend him at all.
I would recommend him. Expect homework but it's very manageable. If you do the work you should be able to easily pass. He is upfront about what quizzes are over and midtermsfinal.
One of my favorite professors at CState! Highly knowledgable, helpful, friendly, and hilarious. Preparation, homework, and reading are essential. All quizzes/exams are in-class essays, but he gives you the questions ahead of time so you can prepare, and allows you to bring notes to the exam. Take if you want to learn, look elsewhere for an easy A.
His lecture's aren't terrible so long as someone answers his open ended questions, he'll just stand there until someone does. He's helpful if you have questions but he's a bit odd. The grading isn't bad but the Journal Questions really add up so stay on top of the assignments.
Really tough class. Journal/review questions are lengthy and is more english oriented than history. Do homework everyday, get ahead quick.
good teacher also is willing to help answer questions. fair grader and explains why you missed points. good personality.
His lectures are informational and somewhat interesting, but has a lot of open ended questions and he'll wait until someone answers them. Heavy written homework assignments, but manageable once you get into the swing of things. He makes jokes and isn't too intimidating.
Solid professor for the most part. Homework load is insane if you have other heavy courses. If you love to read and write take his class. He can be a bit arrogant at times, but he is very qualified and knows his stuff. Do not fall behind on journal or review question assignments if possible. You will get an A if you work hard for it.
The lectures are pretty mediocre and there's a heavy workload for a 3 credit hour class. Your final grade is basically how much time you spent outside of class so it's 100% possible to get an A if you're willing to put in the time. If you're not a history buff and just looking to get a gen ed requirement I suggest you look elsewhere
A pretty dorky teacher, but super nice. His lectures are interesting, however I suggest focusing on the book for tests, quizzes, etc. Open note quizzes and exams. The journal question are rather difficult and can become overwhelming. Overall great teacher + easy class!
We had two papers, a podcast to listen and respond to, and reading every week. Told everyone upfront to expect 6 days/3+ hours of work. Gives commentary back for each assignment, however several times I noticed a confusing response and grade and upon reaching out, he got my work confused with another student. You have to be on top of your grades.
Almost finished with my BA in History, I really like to reflect upon my history class with Prof. Timmons. He is tough, but you will rarely find another Prof. as knowledgeable. I would recommend him to anyone who is serious about history or, simply enjoys actual learning and is not afraid to work for it!
Never actually explains what he wants. He will fail your assignments and not give clear feedback as to what he actually expects from you. Quiz, 2 journals, and groupwork due each week. Rude and extremely unhelpful.
Tons of homework and a fair amount of reading each week. Definitely a harsh grader, but he usually tells you what you're missing. Not the greatest personality, mind, and certainly intimidating, but it's been a year since I've taken his class and the information has actually stuck. Overall - difficult, but worth taking.
Even if you follow his feedback, it doesn't help future grades. Unnecessarily harsh in general communication. That being said, all work was online, didn't have to go to campus for anything so that's a huge plus. If it weren't for the feedback issues and his attitude toward students, I'd rate higher and consider taking again. Tough but doable.
A nice guy with a dry and sarcastic sense of humor which I liked. He gives you the questions to the quizzes and tests beforehand so you can just do them on your own time with the textbook and then copy them down in class from your notes. Make sure you keep up with the journal questions. If you don't understan your grade he's helpful if you ask.
I have a pretty high view of this professor. He understands that history can be hard to relate with, but presents it in a way that is equally hilarious and informative. He expects a lot of class participation and wants to do what he can to involve students in the banter during lecture. If you expect to skate by in this class, you will certainly not
He was a very tough grader. If you have a life don't take this class...
Acts pretentiously. Docks points for literally answering his questions. E.g. "Describe why X was like Y." Then you elaborate exactly why X was like Y and lose points for "only summarizing why X was like Y," but then if you use outside sources to go beyond what's asked, you also lose points; it's a lose-lose. Behaves unequivocally vindictively.
funny guy, has a dry sense of humor and WILL be asking a lot of question to get response from students. gives you review and test questions ahead of him in assignment packet so if you just do them on your own time you will get good grades on those. make sure to keep up with journal responses weekly they can puke up fast.
Not very helpful at all when it comes to fixing things or offering help. No offer to meet online. No specifics about what he is looking for. Just waits until you submit to tell you that you are wrong. Grading is erratic and petty. Condescending with answering common questions about assignment guidelines and curriculum.
A quiz, 2 journals, and a discussion board each week and 4 exams worth 100 points. Answers to questions seem dry. If asked a question and give the exact answer it is still wrong, For example what does a cow say? And you answer moo? You wont get full points and the feedback is vague and tells you just to look at the syllabus. Feels impossible
WORST PROFESSOR EVER avoid him at all cost he gives soooo much homework on weeks of midterms!?! How is he going to expect us to do a midterm and journals, quiz, discussion each week???? Its so impossible to do and had me crying every week please avoid him
Honestly one of the worst professors I have ever had! If at any cost avoid taking courses with him. Does not help his students improve and does not give helpful feedback. Overloads you with work that is impossible to complete and does not care if you pass/fail. Expects you to do a quiz, two journals, and a discussion board each week. Never again!!!
Whether you spend hours or half an hour on an assignment, you'll still not get a good grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Toughest grader I have ever had. Every week, you have to read a chapter of the book, fill out the study guide, take a quiz, write two journals that are 2-3 pages each, then complete a discussion board. He has you complete 4 essay exams and grades very hard. Workload is way over a 3 credit hour class. AVOID THIS CLASS!
He was very understanding kinda a hard grader. If you work hard you will do well
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He grades extremely hard and there are many assignments every week that are unreasonable for a 3-hour online course.
He required too much for a 3 online credit class, took all my time, and finally decided to drop it And he required us to read the books on top of the primary sources didn't make a lot of sense, but regardless it wasn't worth it.
His grading seems very petty. He'll give out fractions of points (for example 9.1 points out of 10) and all his feedback is just a template telling you to look at the syllabus. I absolutely love the material, but his grading methods made me rethink my major more than once. Pros: I liked that he told us which textbook to get ahead of time.
Lots of reading primary sources and notebook. Will need time and investment. Grading is tougher but if you put in the work you'll be alright. Professor makes many jokes during class in an interesting sense of humor and will ask for student responses often.
Not worth the credit hours. Avoid at all costs not even if you like the topic that is being presented.
Unclear grading criteria, rude, incredibly biased, and easy to anger, of which he will make it clear in your grading. Class structure was also pretty weird and relatively unclear.
He is a very tough grader and not so cooperative. Wouldn't recommend at all.
I just started this class not that long ago. This professor asks for a lot to be in one week. You can answer a question head-on and still not get total points. He does not like to work with people. He literally states in his info, that he doesn't like whiners and that very few students get an A in his class.
The amount of writing you have to do in this class is unfathomable. If you shadowed this class you would think we were studying to be english majors. It feels as if professor Timmons is more concerned with making us write than helping us learn. Overall, the class wasn't awful but I wish we focused on learning the material more than we did.
My advise is to avoid this class. I agree with another review when they said that this class required way more work than a 3 credit class. there are 2 essays that you are expected to do every week as well as reading a chapter a week and answering up to 5 questions on the reading a week. Just way way too much work.
Professor has a fun teaching style. Participation and attendance are very important as lectures are very information heavy.
DO NOT take this class unless you are willing to fail. He offered me little to no help when I asked, he just told me to review the notes and textbooks. Mind you, his notes are very bland with little to no explanation. He does map quizzes, if they are not EXACTLY inch by inch, where he has them, then he will fail you in same with written test
Not a helpful professor, does not allow makeups if a quiz is missed (I had a hearing). Asked how I could get my grade up on exams and told me to read the primary sources, which I was doing. Will nitpick your work so hard, on the first day of lecture he stated, ‘very few of my students pass this class with an A'. I have a 4.0 too, until this class.
He's evil. the grading criteria is so unfair and accuses people of cheating and using AI if they quote something other than the textbook. constant essay's, and feedback makes no sense. do not take this class please.
Very helpful professor. A lot of the reviews hyperbolize the rough patches in this class, but are highly inaccurate. He provides helpful feedback, and is quite lenient in grading. He is also understanding of late work in appropriate circumstances. Overall, great professor; if you want to take this course, his class is the way to go.
Bless his heart... I took this class so excited about the content and so motivated. Few days away from the final and its burnt me out. I don't feel like I got a good grasp of the content (you are expected to read the chapters on your own). SOOO much writing, that I never had the chance to fully grasp onto the content, and grades strangely.
