This is one of the greatest instructors I've ever had. He teaches through examples and proofs of theorems in every lecture. It's important to be on top of your game while studying and doing homework, which I was not. He provides plenty of cushion for grading and his midterms weren't too difficult, very straightforward from what he taught in class.

Prof Trefethen's lectures were very confusing and I spent much time being tutored and trying to learn the material on my own. Homework counts for a large percentage of your grade, but it is very difficult to get As on homework, even if you attend all of his office hours. In hindsight tests are easy, but cover material not covered in class.

Very fair professor. Homework is graded for accuracy, and quizzes are tough but there are three optional assignments that are basically completion and replaces low quizzes/hw. Lowest four quizzes/HW are dropped too. He is very clear in lecture and gives you all the information needed to succeed. Readily available outside of class too!

Prof. Trefethen is fantastic at explaining things clearly and gives lots of partial credit. There are generally 2 graded HW problems per class, and 1 online problem set per week. There are 3 midterm exams, which provides good grade cushioning. His class is definitely worth taking, and you'll do well if you're willing to put in some hard work.

He is a great teacher for calculus if you're on the route to major in math or become a professor in the future. If you're someone taking it as a requirement for another major or just taking it as a math class his class is not for you.
