Man, This guy is the greatest...He's not bad to look at, but the best part is, Hes BRITTISH...Although the accent can be distracting...But for the most part, its fun to listen to...STEPHEN WANT ROCKS MY SOX OFF!!!
Stephen Want is the greatest Professor. He really knows exactly what he teaching and knows how to explain himself. He is also EXTREMLY HOT!!!! I LOVE the accent.....accents are extremly hot especially on a hot prof...thanks 4 being out prof....I'll nvr forget u!!!!
I would go to any class this man teaches. Even if i wasn't enrolled. He is the absolute best. Need I say more?
The class is truly fantastic. He manages to capture the attention of everyone in the room multiple times throughout the lecture. His interactive exercises help a great deal and make the information we are learning important to us. He is also very approachable, and a very fair marker. What could be better? Excellent, excellent prof.
He's a really effective teacher. His lectures are really informative and interesting. He's really good at powerpoint presentations and his experiments in class are really fun and informative.
If your in this proff's class your lucky...if your not, switch into it as soon as you can. If i could choose one proff to teach me everything it would be him. Perfect examples to complex concepts. He is one truely amazing teacher. I'm for sure going to try and take another class with him. Its the one class i can actually say ill miss.
Again, amazing at providing examples for hard theories, very funny, and cuuuute.
Stephen is very clear and gives EXCELLENT examples. He is also incredibly witty, making the class enjoyable. Did I mention he's GORGEOUS? Also speaks with an "English" accent...mmm...

Stephen makes the class interesting, he is very witty, great at explanations and well organized
He's very enthusiastic with teaching and explaining new things to students. Exams' grades (at least the multiple choice part) were posted within 24hrs after you write the exams
Stephen was super nice and super funny but super boring at times, perhaps it was the material. Very helpful for assignments.
A really captivating speaker, his experiments are fun and he keeps everyones attention throughout the lecture. Very witty!
awesome
One of my best profs ever! He has such a great sense of humour and his class demonstrations are very effective in learning! And he's quite friendly too!
Prof.Want was such a great prof. really helpful and encouraging. He teaches very well and does a great job at expanding on topics. His use of powerpoints and putting all notes on blackboard makes attending the class and following the lecture easier and much better! EXCELLENT CLASS - JUST STUDY WELL AND PREPARE BEFORE ANY TESTS AND YOU'LL DO FINE :)
hes the bomb.
i would.
Informative - emphasizes key points in class. Useful demonstrations. Always available for before/after class questions. Tests are fair (i.e. all material covered). Makes the material less dry. If you have Prof. Want as your psyc prof, you're lucky :)
He's an incredibly nice professor who makes the boring information interesting. Plus he's got an awesome acent and a cute smile ... the girls go crazy for him.
Even though I had him for only three months, I could tell he was REALLY great. He was helpful in the sense he taught you outside the textbook and made his class worth going to. Unfortunately i decided to drop his class, and that was the biggest reget I had ever made. As a bonus, he was REALLY adorable =)
HE IS A GOOD PROFESSOR.......
His classes are definitely worth going to because he does a great job providing you with examples & making everything clear. You still need to read the text though! He covers pretty much everything in his lectures & his presentations are always interesting. This guy has got 'skills' & I definitely consider myself lucky for having him as a prof. =)
BEST prof ever, he's soooooooo interesting, and I never read the textbook once and I got a good mark. He's clear and makes lectures fun! He's soooo cute too! Totally recommend this prof!
Quite possibly the best new professor at Ryerson! His lectures are really interesting and he presents the material in a very organized and easy to understand manner. It's intellectual, engaging, and fun at the same time! Definitely recommended!
he is probably a good lecturer although i didn't remember much because it was an 8 am class. so if it wasn't, then i probably would have enjoyed his lectures. nice prof. gave EASY assignments. easy to get good grade. i got an A plus. just read the textbook and you're all set. oh and he's british with an accent... what more can i say?
This professor is awesome. His lectures are really worth going to. He definitely knows what he's talking about and takes the time to make good notes. After I did an exam, I got the results within the same day. When I needed to ask a question about an assignment (which was pretty easy), he replied via e-mail within hours.
His lectures are very organized with examples that are easy to comprehend. Though he teaches for the full 3 hours, he tries to dish out as much information as he can in a way that doesn't seem like a "lecture." He really wants students to do well in his course and shows it in his teachings. Overall, great professor and individual.
He is the best prof ever! makes material interesting and easy to comprehend. a hottie btw. leaves spaces in the notes so you can pay close attention to the important parts. did not buy the textbook but still got an a! just go to the lectures and notes and you're good to go
He's the most amazing professor I've ever had. He's awesome at teaching, he presents the content in a manner where people with different learning styles can comprehend. I did very well in his class because of him. He's the most helpful, kind, and caring professor. To top things off, he is also very good looking. Love Him
I was in his PSY 102 last semester, now Im in his PSY 202. He is by far my favourite prof. Love his accent! His classes are enjoyable and interesting.
All the girls thought he was hot and would race for the front seats... I never really went to this class. But I never went to class and didn't buy the text book and just studied off his slides/google and I got a decent mark.
By far the best prof at ryerson...hes lectures are really interesting and easy to understand/follow...he has a great sense of humour and uses it in his lectures often...his powerpoints are full of great and helpful images/movie clips etc...overall he is just great!! very approachable and easy to talk to, you will love his lectures!!
Made things interesting and explained things well with helpful slides and diagrams. Organized and also funny :)
I loved him! By far my favourite professor! Marks and hands back things on time! Very good lecturer, funny and considerate. I would love to have a class with him again :)
Professor Want was a mega babe. Also made learning interesting and I had a crush on him and his hilarious lectures!
By far one of the best profs! His lectures are full of demonstrations that are relateable and funny. Very fair- whatever isnt on his lecture notes (which he posts ahead of class online every week) wont be on the midterms/exam. He really knows what he's talking about and explains it in a "young" sorta way. I'm taking psy again cause of him!
Outstanding professor. Very nice and approachable. He lets you make up your own short answer questions if you can't answer his on the midterms/exams (although you can only get half marks) Knows how to mark as well. Girls go crazy over him, guys like me respect him.
He was the best prof I've had in my first year. His lectures are very structured and detailed. He also puts them online before lectures so you can actually focus on what he's saying in the lecture, rather than scrambling to write everything he's saying. He's very approachable and helpful. Goes in depth in lectures and is clear. Overall great prof !
Amazing! One of the best profs ever!
3 years at Ryerson and still the best prof I've had by far! His way of lecturing is amazing - captivating and clear. A class I actually looked forward to going to. Will not test what he didnt teach in his lectures, gives you a detailed outline of test/assignments, gives you a way out on exams if you're stuck - really wants you to do well! Amazing!
Best psychology prof at Ryerson. Makes you look forward to an 8am Monday class. Makes lectures interesting and interactive. Very funny
Amazing prof that loves and knows what he's doing. Fun and interesting lectures, and very fair marking with tests and assignments. Teaches in a way where students actually understand and not simply to show off how much he knows. If you have him - stay! If not, try your best to switch in..even if its 8am! Will not regret it!
He is amazing. He brings in knowledge from his life and it's hilarious. He is adorable and manages to make each class like a theater show. He's very engaging. The perfect professor.
He was a nice, funny prof. One of my favourites. Textbooks aren't necessary for his class, because all the material in his exams are covered in the lectures. I found the exams a bit difficult, but the assignments were really easy
Amazing prof!!! Attendance is not mandatory but still almost everyone in class usually showed up for an 8am lecture. His lectures are interesting and he uses a lot of examples which help to understand the topic. Also, he said if you come to lectures and take notes, you don't have to buy a textbook.
Make sure you go to class! He explains everything so well, you don't even need a textbook. Midterms and exams are based on what he says during class too, so my only tip is to ALWAYS GO TO CLASS, even if it means waking for an 8am class!
No words for this professor.. He is so obviously brilliant and is so enthusiastic that like everyone else said, he makes 8am classes worth it. MUST GO TO CLASS, all of the exam material is from what he says in class/in the notes. Such a funny prof and genuinely amazing teacher. Also very babely..
No words can describe how great this prof is. You don't the textbook at all b/c all the tests are based purely on lecture notes. If you attend every class and take good notes you're practically guaranteed at least an A-
He's one of my profs at Ryerson by far! He knows how to engage his slides and help the students learn. He is such an understanding person. He's so funny and loves to get the class involved in some sort of way. This class will change the way you see things. ANYONE can take his class and enjoy it!
Amazing teacher, really knows what he's talking about! You don't need the textbook at all, and I really enjoyed the lectures! You should show up for class as he puts many in class examples on the exams. Otherwise he's very fair, and more than willing to help!
Amazing guy and amazing prof - really knows his stuff and makes even the driest material fun and interesting. No textbook. Granted me an extension I asked for the actual night an assignment was due. Cute accent too. :) Take his class!
Stephen is a wonderful teacher and very passionate and understanding. If you go to the lecture he'll even tell you that reading the textbook is unnecessary as all of his exams are 100% class based. He was very helpful to me with assignments and lectures are easy to follow and engaging. Great intro psych teacher!
Lectures were super engaging and entertaining, tests were also very straightforward. I would take all my psych courses with this guy if I could!
Great prof, interesting lectures (don't need the textbook if you attend lectures), fair marker, tells you exactly what he's looking for on tests and assignments, helpful, good vibes,
One of the best professors I had so far. The way he teaches is superb. With already given notes and extra information he provides in class- the class it self should be interesting. He, himself, made the material and the class as a whole a class you would enjoy. The textbook is not really necessary for he teaches the content very well.
Good class but difficult. Midterm and assignments are long.
Very clear with the content explained in class, and tells you upfront that you don't need the textbook if you attend and understand every lecture. Clearly wants his students to succeed, which is much appreciated!
The professor is amazing! His lectures are really interactive, interesting and hilarious. You definitely have to attend them to pass, however. Take notes too because not all of the information from his lectures is uploaded online. He gives incredibly helpful feedback too. Just be ready for the exams which ask you to APPLY the concepts from class.
love this guy.. he made 8 am lectures not that bad. for psy 102 you dont need the textbook at all with him! everything is in his notes that he provides you with
Such a cool prof to have first year. I had an 8am 3 hour lecture on Mondays and he makes it so interesting. Found myself having to study less outside of class just because the way he teaches makes it so easy to retain all the info. Really funny and has great power points for understanding all the concepts 10/10 guy
Had him for 8am Mondays which I did not mind having b/c his lectures are interesting! He makes the content come to life! Very approachable prof. Come to every class and you will guarantee pass the course!
Stephen is a great lecturer. His classes were pretty fun to attend, and he would put some exam questions directly from the lectures (lecture notes were not enough). With that said, I took this class thinking it would be an easy A, and it wasn't. All the class exams had an avg of 70 or below, and he is an extremely hard short answer marker.
Stephen is a good prof. His lectures were well-organized and engaging, but purposely left notes blank to encourage students to come to class. Assignments were quite easy, but the exams were bit of a challenge. You definitely need to know how to apply the concepts learnt in class. Bonus, no textbook!
Definitely the best course of the semester. Although having a class Monday at 8:00am was brutal, he made it so interesting. His tests and exams are easy, but the assignments need to be actually worked on. Textbook isn't needed, but go to class - he gives great examples and hints for tests.
Class was very fun with him; I never wanted to skip it.
Psychology is not the course for everyone but in my opinion Want did a great job a engaging and keeping the content easy to follow. He uses alot of visuals and puts a lot of time into his slides. He also often refers back to current trends and relates it to the course (ex: the shiny leg pic on twitter) Overall great prof!
cares about all his students and SO funny!
Not accommodating, lots of material to study for tests. Exams are tough yet somewhat fair. No textbook needed which is a plus
Stephen is a very fun professor that clearly cares about his students being engaged in his class. Although for first year students, I found him a little bit of a tough grader and he does not give a whole lot of guidance if you are simply confused about course content.
Great Prof, hope to get him again.
Always made lectures really interesting and clearly cares about his students success. The short answer questions on the test were graded quite hard but as long as you pay attention in the lectures and use the textbook youll be fine. Theres also no need to buy a textbook (unless you want to). Honestly one of the best professors ive had.
Such a great proof. Youll need to attend the lectures to pass, but the lectures are great regardless. Hes super funny and always making the class interesting. If you need help DO NOT be affraid to email him or attend his office hours, hes super helpful. Overall great proof, would definitely recommend his class.
I loved going to his class! His lectures were very engaging, and he has a great sense of humour!
you can tell he enjoys teaching and wants his students to succeed. he doesnt make you use the textbook but ideally you should attend all lectures because he leaves some notes and examples off of those posted on d2l. i had him from 6-9pm but he made the inconvenient time slot enjoyable
He's funny and makes every lecture relatable.
Best prof for intro to psych. I had friends in other classes and from what they said, it seems Stephen Want is the most interesting and easiest. Basically, he is funny, makes his power points enjoyable with some animations, and elaborates very well with his anecdotes. Also, no textbook! Amazing prof!
He's such an awful teacher. If you want to put all your effort into a class and get no positive outcome out of it then by all means take his class, but from what he teaches you in the class to what is actually on the exams is no where compared. His test have no correlation to the material learned in class, bad teacher didn't enjoy his class!!
The BEST Psych prof. No TB needed. His notes are super clear, but I found it most helpful to attend classes for his clear explanations and examples. Literally still remember everything I learned -- he has that affect on you. Tests are straight-forward to the notes from class. Easy high marks if you understand his notes, which is very easy to do.
he posts the lectures online & then says them basically word for word in class making it boring &repetitive, uses way too many examples & students will be lost in examples rather than using them to understand the actual course content, tough grader, an overall good guy & wants to see students succeed but he's not the right prof for an intro course
Really good lecturer. Makes class really interesting. If you get this professor, consider yourself very lucky! He makes the content very condensed and straight to the point. He doesn't test much on random detail and really helps the information stick with you by using lots of funny examples in class.
Hands down my favourite professor of the semester. I actually looked forward to his 3-hour lectures because he made all the material so interesting and accessible. He was very clear about how the assignments and exams would be marked, and told us exactly what to study for the final. Fantastic guy, I hope I can take his classes again at some point.
Want seemed nice enough, and has coherent enough slides that you don't need the textbook which is always a god send, but he uses SO many examples it feels like a waste of time. It took him a cumulative 5 hours to get through the 7 misconceptions about Evolutionary Psychology.... It's just too much. If you study the slides, you can skip class!
Stephen Want is a great prof. He's very caring and wants you to do well. The textbook cost over $200 so he said we didn't have to buy it, instead he summarized the textbook in his lectures. His lectures are funny and informative. He's clear about what he expects on exams/assignment, and he's a fair grader. Plus he responds quickly to emails.
Honestly one of my favourite profs at Ryerson! He makes the material super easy to understand and will explain a concept multiple times if asked to do so. Overall an amazing prof. there were 2 writing assignments which were not too difficult, 2 midterms (non cumulative), and an exam. Consider yourself lucky if you have him!
I love Dr. Want he has a British accent and I could listen to him talk all day. He always finds a way to keep lectures interesting and funny. He's very helpful and accommodating, I highly recommend going to office hours! Probably my favourite prof.
Ugh absolutely amazing! He has an english accent which makes him so much more entertaining. He's also very funny and a very fair marker. His exams are easy as long as you study for it! Attending class really helps you understand the content and everything he tests comes straight from his notes! Very kind and cares about his students
He is an incredibly caring, and informative professor. Even taking this introductory course after taking two introductory to psychology courses at previous institutions - he still managed to teach me new things. His classes are always interesting, and as long as you put a little bit of effort into the course you can do well.
Probably my FAVOURITE proffesor. His examples and explanations are so engaging and hes got a great sense of humour! As long as you attend lectures, you can do well! Paying attention and understanding his concepts are SUPER easy to follow along with! Super sad to not be in his class anymore, hopefully Ill have him again later years
Honestly, one of the best professors I've encountered. He's caring, intelligent, and very clear in his lectures. If you have the chance to enroll in one of his classes, I suggest you do so. He made PSY 102 my favourite class, hands down.
He's a really good professor. Love to go to his lectures. He made the lectures so fun and I actually enjoy it.
Prof Want is a great lecturer and overall great person. But overall I found that his exams were extremely hard even after studying for a couple days. Many of the comments that are made are by A+ students but believe me half of the time the class averages on the midterms had been mid 60's. He is a great prof and a great lecturer but you have to work
Very nice professor. The class is very lecture heavy and there are 3 exams but they are all very fair and he prepares you well.
My favourite prof! The class is very lecture heavy but the evaluations (2 assignments, 2 midterms + 1 final) were easy & fair - he prepares you well and gives clear instructions. He is extremely caring and overall a great person. He makes the classes fun and you're very lucky if you have him as a prof.
Stephen Want is an AMAZING professor, I absolutely loved him. His lectures are great and interesting and he is very funny. However, if you aren't good at multiple choice tests, you may not do too well as there are three of them. There were also two assignments which were very easy. Overall my favourite professor yet, highly recommend.
First thing this professor says is that he doesn't understand why we would have to buy textbooks for such high prices when the money could be used for food haha. His lectures were amazing and funny because he made a lot of analogies to help understand the concepts. The exams were pretty easy so long as you study of course. Literally perfect prof
Want genuinely cares for his students and has the ability to clearly engage his class in his lectures. He uses a variety of examples to ensure we know our stuff. He's got a good sense of humour and uses a variety of media forms to convey information effectively. No need to buy the textbook! He understands we need money to buy other things like food
Want is an amazing professor. Study and memorize and have a good understanding of all the notes there is no way you wont do well in this course. Exams dont have trick questions. He even takes off question on the exam that many people struggled with. Yes, the class average was low but that was bc people dont know how to study properly, easy class
Prof Want was a great teacher to have. He encourages students to attend his class rather than reading every single chapter in the textbook (textbook wasn't even mandatory). If you skip class, it'll be hard to catch up on missed content because he tests on things said in class. Overall, great teacher and would like to have him again!
I loVE him
Prof Want is amazing. The class is really straightforward, show up to class take notes, memorize and you will do well. Test are based solely off lecture so no need to buy or read the textbook and he even takes questions off if majority dont get it right. As long as u put effort in getting a A+ isnt hard to do.
best prof you will ever have. he's a gem
Makes lectures enjoyable by sharing stories and examples that help to understand better. Textbook not necessary at all, his exams are based off of his slides. I recommend studying a lot for his exams though, no matter how prepared I felt I always did worse than I thought. Written assignments are fairly easy and a good way of boosting your average.
absolutely love him!!! best psych prof ever
Loooove him!!!! He's such a sweetheart. I genuinely enjoyed coming to class every week. I once forgot this section of a test and noticed when I went to office hours and he let me fill in the section so I could still get the mark. What a gem. Textbook reading not required, its just supplementary but helps. Really understanding guy.
Want is one of the most amazing professors in the psych department! He didn't make us buy the textbook and, all he wanted was for students to show up and pay attention in the lecture which really allowed me to retain a lot of information. Just make sure you pay attention in his class as the exams are completely based on it.
Stephen Want is a hilarious professor. His lectures are amazing and sometimes funny. However, even though you are marked on two short assignments (8% and 14%) and three exams (25% each) (SONA- 3%), he marks slightly harder than you'd expect. It was hard, i'm lucky I passed.
AMAZING! Didn't make us purchase any textbooks and was always so funny when it came to lectures which made it easier to memorize and take notes. Honestly, such an amazing professor especially for an intro to psych course. Definitely won't be disappointed with his teaching style and with him as your professor!
Stephen is a very engaging lecturer who ensures that each thing he explains contains a relevant example or real-life application. I love his class and would absolutely recommend him as a prof.
Hands down the BEST professor I have ever and probably will ever have. Stephen is AMAZING. His lectures are heavy but he knows exactly what he is talking about and is very engaging with the class, always giving real life examples of everything making the content much more understandable. He's also extremely nice and super funny! 11/10 for sure.
Great guy! Classes are long but he does his best to keep students "in it". Class is not mandatory but he goes over bare examples which do come in handy so. He's also super funny and nice. Guy brought timbits for the final lecture. Overall huge beauty.
He is so sweet, 100% recommend him. Its pretty easy to do well in his class, just show up to class and note down what he doesn't have on his slides. If you just study the slides and your notes you can easily get a 90%+. Assignments were also simple. Lectures were a little heavy and hard to focus at times but he does tries his best to make it fun.
the best prof ever!!! u have to work hard but its worth it, he makes psych SO interesting and encourages me to do better... and so nice! such a good prof, especially for bio psychology
Professor Want is VERY DIFFICULT. His lectures involve the use of lots of examples, which sometimes left me a little more confused than I was before. His exams are very hard, on the second exam we had, he expected us to know small details. If you go to his office hours for help on an assignment, HE IS SO HELPFUL. Overall, you have to work hard.
He is a fantastic prof who uses many examples to help you understand and keep students engaged. The textbook is not mandatory at all, but it may help you with the two assignments. His exams are quite tricky if you're not good with multiple choice. He truly does care about his students, but the content is hard.
The best prof I had all semester honestly. Although it was lecture heavy, he was able to keep me engaged and actually understand the concepts. Although he posts an outline to his slides, he gives examples and explanations that make me remember them for my exams. The 2 assignments were extremely easy along with the exams. 10/10 would recommend.
The best prof you could ask for. His understanding of psychology makes his lectures SUPER easy to follow and incredibly engaging. He also truly cares about his students and making a lasting impression. Go Stephen!
ABSOLUTE BEST! SO GREAT! LOVE THIS PROF! Sorry, he's just the best. Attend lectures & review for exams and you'll do well. His lectures are engaging, uses examples that you'll remember, funny, great pace & an overall gem! Definitely try to score him as your psych prof if you can! 2assignments (8%, 14%) 3exams (25% each),research contribution (3%)
Best professor to take for this course! He prepares notes for students beforehand and you just have to add in some examples he shares in class that WILL be on the tests. Although his tests are quite specific and content heavy, if you actually take the time to study and memorize everything you will be fine. Assignments are marked easy too! TAKE THIS
Love prof. Want! If you want to do well, you have to attend ALL lectures and make detailed notes, as all exam material comes from those! There are 2 assignments (8% and 14%), 2 midterms, and a final (each worth 25%) and research contribution (3%). Tests are MC (around 45-50) plus short answers. Fair marker and excellent lecturer!
One of the best professors at Ryerson!!! His lectures are amazing, and you can tell he is passionate about psychology. He truly cares about his students' success in this class. If you have to take this class, make sure you take it with him - you won't regret it!
The best! He gives you his slides but you have to take lecture notes to do well on exams. Only studied slides & my lecture notes & finished with 92%. I found it to be very easy but the class average was quite low (60s & low 70s) for m/t & assignments. So, take if you're interested in PSY. Lectures are amazing & TA marks very fair. Highly recommend!
Avoid at all cost, Lecture was interesting. Wait till midterm and finals and you know the consequence
He is the best! love his lectures. Despite the lectures being 3hrs long it didn't feel like it at all.. The way he taught and presented just engaged all class! Highly recommand him... but the writting assignemts were marked hard, the TA's just suck. if you like psychology then he is the best prof at Ryerson!
Amazing lecturer. He has clear notes so just reading the textbook and his notes is enough, but you still gain a lot by attending. Plus, his class is engaging and fun and he's a funny prof. Plus he has an English accent, so that's always cool. 2 midterms and a final that's pretty easy to study for. Would recommend
There's a reason Professor Want has a very high rating on Rate My Prof. His lectures are amazing and he gives clear explanations with real-life examples so you understand how concepts apply. Attend his lectures, annotate his notes, and skim the textbook to pass the class easy. You'll WANT to attend class and he'll be one of your fav profs.
Professor Want was honestly one of the best professors I've had at Ryerson yet. He is so passionate about the topic and always came into class with a positive attitude. He made concepts easier to understand and actually engaged with the class to make the lecture more interesting. Fair marker as well. Would 100% take a course with him again.
The best professor I've ever had. His lectures are engaging and so interesting. Watch his lectures, take notes and you'll do great in his class. He made me love psychology. He is very nice and asks for how he can improve a couple times. Highly recommend, you will end up loving him!
He genuinely cares for his students and he's so understanding! Try not to leave things for the last minute, since the assignments are quite long. His lectures are so informative and engaging so please attend them! Exams are tough (application questions) if you don't understand his notes/videos/lectures, since I managed to fail every single exam.
He's a great professor. I've had to email him asking for clarity on assignments and he replied so quickly and with great detail (which is a good thing). He's always open to helping students and goes above and beyond to make this experience as easy as possible. The test were challenging though. Overall, 10/10.
Interesting content x Amazing prof A fun class BUT all of his exams are very very very hard so you better get prepared to watch all his lectures and understand concepts to do good on exams. GOOD LUCK
Professor Wants weekly uploaded videos he used in replacement of the textbook and were fairly clear and easy to get but long. Some of the content was heavy but that is to be expected with psychology. Lectures were interesting and fun as he did activities to reinforce our knowledge. Really passionate about the subject. Would definitely take again!
All you need to do is watch his lectures and you can get an easy A. His lectures aren't necessarily long, and the content is not difficult to grasp. He makes his lectures fun and interactive and makes sure you understand the content before moving on to a new topic. He is open to criticism and responds to emails fairly quickly.
I had him during Covid, he posted 4 or 5 videos each week (about 2 hours in total) and then held an hour and half zoom meeting to do some activities and ask questions. The course had 2 easy and straightforward assignments and 3 not so much difficult exams. He explains the subjects in a way that is hard to forget and easy to learn. Overall he's gold
(ONLINE EXPERIENCE) Very hard marker (avoid). He is still a brilliant and caring teacher. This class was my lowest mark. In all of my other classes, I had an 80-85 percent but in his, I had a 60%???. The average for every exam and project was around 50- 60 percent while other PSY102 classes had an average of 75 or an 80. Stress inducing
Dr. Want is a great psych professor. His lectures were lengthy but very engaging with lots of real-life examples. Assignments were straightforward with clear directions, but he was always willing to help if you didnt understand something. The exams may come off as a bit tough, but if you take good notes and put in the work, you're sure to do well.
He was definitely the worst professor/teacher I have EVER had. The workload was ridiculously heavy. At least 6 hours of lectures every week. He grades extremely difficult and his exams are ridiculous. The class average for the exams were always 60s. He would put questions on the exams that we had never talked about in any lecture.
A lot of people seemed to have a really rough time with Want with classes online but honestly I found it really nice, his lectures had a lot of interesting information and somehow I still remember all of it. Take REALLY detailed notes, read aloud and revise your notes as much as possible. Thats what I did, and Im really happy with the results.
A great professor. He made the class very fun and interactive. Super understanding and will go out of his way to help you succeed in the course.
His lectures are really interesting. I enjoyed the context of the course. But when it came to tests, they were really hard. So be ready to study. The TAs are also tough graders. This is not easy course. A lot to memorize.
Dr. Want is one of the best profs I've had at Ryerson. Extended assignments when we needed it. Very knowledgeable and so kind. Didn't have a good experience with Ornstein last year, switch to Want's class if you can!!
He has an amazing and likeable personality with very fun, engaging lectures that consist of many examples to help you understand more. However, his exams/tests were VERY difficult. There are 3 exams you have to take with many hard application based questions. As well, there are many lecture videos to watch online that can be quite long.
The lectures were not mandatory but posted videos weekly related to the topics. Him and his TA's marked pretty difficultly and his exams were very difficult even though they were open book. I ended up with a 48% in the course but he boosted my mark to a 50 thankfully. He is very kind and organized and truly is a good prof.
Dr. Want conducts engaging lectures and explains content so clearly and simply. Every prof can learn from his teaching style. I think especially for first years, he's a great prof to have. Exams were tricky, but always fair. The assignment was marked tough but fairly as well. A solid choice!
Dr. Want is an incredibly caring & empathetic professor and easily approachable. PSY 544 is a difficult course though, and if you do not review concepts early on and master the content you will struggle with the course. The paper is a nice opportunity to boost your grade though, as he marks very fairly.
I took this course based on my experience with him in PSY102. PSY544 was definitely a more difficult course because concepts were a bit more abstract than memorization, but Professor Want definitely made it manageable! Lectures were always great, he explained things well and is extremely understanding. Highly recommend any class with him.
Great prof overall! Tip for students taking this course: Be careful with the M/C questions bc Prof. Want words them in a tricky manner (which is understandable).
Prof Want is a real gem. I found that lectures were engaging and the material was genuinely interesting. Hands out very clear criteria for the assignment, and a study guide for the exams. MC can be a little tricky but we're in university so no surprises there. Overall, great prof, great course. Easily one of the best PSY courses I've taken at RU.
I was looking forward to taking his Psychology course after hearing such good things about him. Unique and refreshing approach to Psych on his part. Truly down to Earth, caring, UNDERSTANDING. This prof wont hide things from you and is clear about what he wants from you, no wondering or guessing. Watch his lectures, show up and do well.
Amazing prof, his lectures are amazing because he actually does an amazing job explaining the concepts and makes it easier to understand. His lectures are kind of lengthy, but they are manageable. Make sure to study because his exams are hard, a lot of thinking and actually understanding the concepts to be able to apply them to situations he gives.
Listening to Stephen's lectures was always entertaining. He's got a lovely sense of humor, and I love his British accent. There's a suggested textbook that isn't required, but helped a lot on exams (all are open note and open book). The TA graded me kind of harshly, but I still really enjoyed the course. He does little experiments in class, too!
Amazing lectures do not skip, responds fast and clearly to emails, very clear about what he looks for in assignments and very caring and funny. If you study and understand concepts you will do fine on tests, they do require you to think more but if you study you will be fine. Lectures aren't boring , look forward to them even.
Dr. Want was a great prof! His prerecorded lectures were never long, and class attendance was optional to help you reinforce the content. His exams are pretty easy considering they were all open book (even the final!), and he gives good feedback on assignments.
Attendance isn't mandatory because he posts video lectures for every unit (though he holds tutorials). They're kind of long, but understandable and not boring if put in 2x speed. Assessment includes 3 exams and 2 papers. Exams solely based on lectures, no readings required. Also very understanding of needing extensions and overall a nice person.
His tests were hard as the averages were around 60-70s, so definitely make good notes from the recorded lectures. Overall he is a great prof! He is so enthusiastic about the subject which makes the class very interesting
Dr. Want is amazing! Very clear on what his expectations are on assignments and exams. Super approachable and responds to emails right away. Genuinely cares about his students and their success. Lectures can be a bit lengthy, but he makes them super interesting and easy to understand.
He is the BEST PROF. in the whole university. his lectures are literally the best. They are very detailed and everything is clear. His tests are not that hard and are reasonable. Watching the lectures is enough and he doesn't ask you to read the textbook. Would definitely take it again.
Stephens a good guy who makes his lectures interesting. However the course is hard and if you don't pay attention or make good notes you wont pass.
His pre-record videos were all amazing and clear and you'll get about 5 videos a week to watch (approximate 30-40min per video). But as long as you take good notes and watch all of the videos, you should be good for his exam (50 multiple choice & 2 short answers). Overall, he is a really good prof
Dr. Want is a great professor and I'm so glad I was put into his PSY102 class! He's caring and engaging. Tests aren't easy but totally fair and if you do the work and understand the content, you should be ok. TAs mark the papers and can be tough. Tons of prerecorded lectures (online class due to covid), but no textbook needed.
such a sweet guy, liked him a lot - the class definitely took a bit of time but it was really interesting, recommend him
I LOVED HIM. there is a lot of info and many power points but they're always available and you will pass as long as u review them. Its really easy to learn with him and he's always available for questions. Not mandatory attendance, I barely attended the meetings and had an easy time with assignments.
Such a nice professor and really cares about his students. Very accommodating and will make time to meet with you whenever you have a question. Although lectures were not mandatory he made them fun and interactive each time. 100% want to take a class with him again.
He actually gives good feedback to assignments and is always eager to help students. If you're participating in class, following lectures, taking notes, studying, asking questions, and earning those participation marks you will be fine. You just have to always have conversations going on with him by email or in-person.
I LOVED PROF WANT, HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST.
Professor Stephen Want is a fantastic choice. He is very accommodating and goes above and beyond to make sure his class understands course material. Additionally, the format of his course is quite clear, allowing everyone to succeed. His TAs and he, on the other hand, are hard markers. Nonetheless, I would definitely recommend taking his class!
LOVE HIM ! 10/10 prof! Assignment for this class was interesting, lectures are super engaging and informative and he responds to emails so quickly and is super sweet and helpful . Definitely recommend
I am confused as to why everyone like this professor or would recommend this professor to other students. Yes, he is friendly, but his exams are challenging! The way he words his question is confusing, and it does not matter if you study. I'm crying right now as I am writing this. His class is way too complicated for no reason.
After reading the reviews for Stephen Want on rmp, I was very dumfounded to say the least. This is my second course with Stephen Want, and most definitely the last. While Want has a good heart, he is not fit to be a professor. His lectures are heavy and insufferable, and his exams do not reflect content. Beware, he takes months to grade work.
I took PSY544, which consisted of 3 exams and a paper. Want's expectations and grading criteria are unclear, and he responds very demeaningly when asked to clarify. The exams in this course do not at all reflect the course content, and are heavily based in application. It is near impossible to do well on the short answers due to a lack of clarity.
Prof Want was my best prof. He is so nice and his lectures are actually engaging. For the two assignments instructions were extremely clear and he gave us so many examples. The exams are kind of hard, but as long as you really study for it, you'll be okay. Exams-he uses nearly all the examples he gave in class as questions which he gave the answers
Dr.Want was an absolutely amazing professor. He always went above and beyond to ensure that all his students could be successful in his class. He is extremely kind and his lectures are engaging and easy to follow. I would definitely take his class again.
I love Dr. Want. I had him in my first year for intro psych and then again for evolutionary psych and he is engaging, caring, and passionate about what he teaches. I 100% agree that the tests can be difficult but that absolutely does not reflect how good he is as a prof, but rather how much effort you put into the class. Easy assignments too! 10/10
AMAZING! He's super kind and marks easily. Both written assignments had clear rubrics and great feedback on both. Exams(3) were a little hard but he gave alternative options to students so they could get at least 50 on short answers and dropped mc questions if majority got them wrong or he found them confusing. His lectures were very entertaining:)
Awesome professor! Expectations are clearly expressed. Accessible if you have further questions. The content was super interesting. There are two midterms, a paper and a final, all worth 25%. Even though he provides a detailed study guide, the exams can be tricky. Still, I think this is the course I have enjoyed the most so far. 100% recommended.
I had to drop this class because of the professor, don't get me wrong he's a funny guy, and very passionate about what he teaches but his lectures are way too heavy, and hard to follow along, his voice does put me to sleep. His assignments were confusing to follow along with as well, doesn't really give much detail.
This prof is my absolute fav. He is such an amazing guy, and brings in lots of fun experiments for the class to make it less boring. If you ask him to record a lecture cuz ur sick hell do it, or to send you an explanation of a concept hell do it. So very caring and you can tell he cares about his students success. Also very fair in marking.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. this is my 5th year in university and safe to say that Prof Want is the best prof i've ever had all my life. he's very good, SUPER NICE, SUPER CARING, very very friendly and understanding. i sometimes even think he's too nice. those who say his lectures are hard, well the course itself is heavy so it's not his fault.
AMAZING 10/10 take his class he's so engaging and funny
LOVE HIM!! He's sweet and caring, 2 midterms and 1 final all worth 25% & 2 assignments. Best prof ever, can't explain how amazing he is. He's got an accent which makes lectures engaging. He explains his lectures amazingly. For all exams he posts study guides which help a lot but exams can be tricky sometimes, need more profs like him!
This professor is awesome!!!!! He explains concepts well, is engaging and, does experiments. He also cares about his students and brings in treats occasionally. The lectures are a lot of content so it's best to show up every week however there isn't any participation and attendance is not mandatory. Overall super cool guy!!!! Would take again!
11/10 professor!!! Very interactive, he does a lot of experiments to keep students engaged. A lot of information is given throughout the lectures so I recommend not missing those in order to do well, however, attendance is not mandatory. I would also recommend not taking this lecture at 8am because it is very long and contains a lot of information.
He is awesome! My tips: Attend EVERY lectures because his notes is not complete, he is adding informations in lectures. He is very organized, clear outlines for subjects. No need for textbook but you must learn the lecture notes very well. He is making 3 hours but feels like 1 hour. Interactive lectures. 2 written assignments, 2 midterms, 1 final.
Professor Want is amazing! His lectures are super engaging, and he really knows how to keep his students interested. I love that he gives regular breaks (and often treats too), which makes the long lectures much more manageable. He provides most of the notes and they're very useful.
if you put in the work, hes a great prof. cares a lot about his students, and is extra considerate when it comes to grading.
Stephen Want was an amazing professor, all his lectures were very engaging and he made them really fun. He posted his notes which was helpful and even occasionally brought snacks for the class. Super fair marker, really loved attending his lectures. He also often gave breaks which was really nice in a 3 hour lecture. Highly recommend!
Professor Want was an amazing professor! By far my favourite i've had. He cares about his students and makes all his lectures interesting for 3 hours. Gives breaks and some snacks too. His class was a class i did not want to ever miss. Would love to take him again if i had the chance to.
amazing professor. lectures were very interesting, you can tell that he's really passionate about what he's teaching. for assignments he have very clear criteria and was fair when it came to marking. tests weren't bad as long as you studied for them. would definitely take his class again
Absolute perfection from a prof. Every minute detail of what could possibly make a professor fantastic, all boxes checked. 11/10.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Want. Honestly as a first year, this is one of the most welcoming profs that helps you adjust to university life and I am so greatful to have gotten him in my first semester at TMU. He's so great and his lectures are enjoyable. You can tell he cares about his students I really hope to have him again.
His lectures are very interesting and he seems passionate in his teaching, exams are weighed heavy though and make a majority of the grade, where most marks are lost. A lot of studying needed and his marking is pretty harsh.
AHHHHH what a prof ! He is TRULY passionate about his subject, evident in his teaching. He provides many examples for understanding, summarizes previous lectures, gives clear assignment instructions, provides evaluation summaries and outlines, offers insightful feedback, engaging lectures, many breaks, beautiful accent ;) & did I mention FREE FOOD!
This guy is one of those chill, understanding profs you cross your fingers and hope for. Always found a way to make every lecture a little interesting (that might just be my psych hyperfixation). Though it was an 8AM class, I still found myself tuning in more often than not. As long as you do your work on time or ask for an extension, he's great.
Prof. Want is my favourite professor so far. I had him for my first semester and I loved his lectures. The final is weighted the same as the other exams and there are 2 assignments. Interesting course! Studying for exams must be taken seriously, however, so don't skip that if you want to do well. Don't need to use textbook he recommended.
I would literally sell my first born AND left kidney to have a class with him again. He's passionate and engaging to the point that, even though the material was repetitive for me, I would never get bored during his lectures.
As so many have already expessed, Want is an amazing professor. He puts effort into making all of his lectures interesting and puts the concepts taught in class into practice. He's very considerate as well and answers emails with astonishing speed. What's on exams is crystal clear as he gives a sheet of learning goals. textbook is not mandatory.
He's an amazing prof. I love the way he talks. He makes me go crazy insanely crazy. I love breathing his air.
Amazing prof! During class he uses so many visual and everyday life examples that make the content much easier to be understood. He also offers a summary of the content and a study roadmap, which helps you prepare for exams. Also, he took the time to re-evaluate my work when I thought the grade I got from the TA wasn't fair. Easy prof to talk to.
Just here to say that I agree with all the positive comments and would definitely recommend if you're able to choose your PSY 102 prof! Even though the lectures were at 8 am, he made it engaging, enjoyable, easy to understand, and he even brought us candy sometimes! He genuinely cares about his students. Also, his British accent is a plus lol :)
Dr. Want was my best professor of the semester!! He's incredibly engaging in lectures, and any/if not all info needed for tests is included during lectures, or provided on D2L afterwards. Ask questions if you need, he makes himself very accessible. A great person and prof overall, definitely sets his students up for the best chance of success.
If you are taking 101 CHOOSE DR. WANT. He cares about his students and his lectures are very in-depth. He teaches at a level where everyone can understand and is very approachable.
Super sweet guy. Loving his class so far.
i had Prof Want last semester and how much i wish i had him again this semester and the rest of my undergrad years. in all my other courses, i find myself keep thinking “how nice would it be if Prof Want is the one teaching this course”, that's how amazing he is. he makes other instructors seem mid to me.
Professor Want is one of the nicest profs I had he cares about his students and even though his lectures are 3 hours it won't get boring for you. I will definitely take his course again
Prof. Want is absolutely amazing. He had interesting lectures, was immersive, and gave a clear explanation of what he wanted. He graded clear and fairly, and textbook was only optional. Truly if there is a professor that cares for his students, it is Want.
Amaizing prof, the lectures were so interesting, he made sure to keep you engaged with the class and explained difficult topics in such easy ways. I can say that I never learned as much as I did in this course. Everything was so well explained that I never felt the need to do extra study- 100% recommend.
He's an amazing prof, he is very understanding of due dates, early lecture times and honestly just a genuine prof. He used real and effective examples in class. Overall a super sweet prof!
ok hear me OUT. i finished his course like 6 months ago but im here to tell yall that Prof. Want is THAT amazing to the point i wish all my courses this semester are taught by him. i wish he taught all psych courses at TMU. i'd be willing to attend 7 days a week if he's the prof. SUPER sweet, clearest lectures all my life. pls dont ever retire
Dr. Want is the best. Super clear, informative, funny lectures, with two 10 minute breaks which he is always really good about giving. The TA marked our assignments and Dr. Want offered to regrade ours if we wanted, he raised my mark by 10% when I asked him to look mine over. Seriously so sweet. Very caring and intelligent guy
Favourite prof ever, very caring and knows how to engage students while making lectures fun and immersive
Best prof I've had in all of University. Wish he taught every single one of my classes. Lectures are heavy, but he gives breaks every hour. If you pay attention in the lectures and review before exams, you'll be ok. Assignments have super clear grading criteria and aren't too difficult. He also gives you really good tips about how to study properly
Just go for his psy 102 class, he always brings snacks and little surprises. He spend time answering questions and replaying email very fast.
Prof. Want is very understanding and aware that psychology can be an overwhelming tsunami of information. Because of this, he really cares about students and Wanting to help them succeed. He makes lectures/class engaging, considers everyone learns differently, is clear with communication, and is a reasonable grader and tester. A truly great prof!
I was in his class last year but I just wanna come on here and say that he's still the best prof I've had. I wish I could enroll in all his courses until I graduate but unfortunately I'm more into other psychology specialties which he doesn't teach. Whatever courses you wanna take, if you see Dr.Want, choose him!
Dr. Want is one of those people who was absolutely born to be an educator. In his class you can expect engaging lectures, grades back in record time, and the irreplaceable experience of having a Prof that genuinely cares. If you have the chance to be taught by him, leap for it.
SUCH A SWEET PERSON. prof. want's lecture are long but he explains all topic very well and gives great examples to help understand content. he gives 2 ten minute breaks (one every hour) exams are easy if you pay attention in class. he is very organized and a great lecturer overall.
My goat, he's always made the lectures interesting and he makes the tests and assignments based on what we did in class. As long as you attend all the classes you're set. Very entertaining. 10/10 would take him all 4 years of pyschology if I could. His intelligence shines as bright as his head.
Best prof ever. I wish I had him for ALL my classes. You don't really have to attend class since he posts notes, but it's VERY helpful to attend.
Amazing prof. If you actually go to lecture and study the learning goals he posts, you are honestly set for the tests. For short answer he even lets you make your own 2.5 mark question if you blank on the 5 mark one, reviews unfair TA grading, and when majority of the class incorrectly answered 2 MCs he still awarded everyone the marks.

I absolutely loved having Professor Want as my teacher, I would 100% take any class he teaches. You can tell by the way he conducts his lectures he is passionate about psychology. He makes the content very approachable and easy to digest. You will have to study quite a bit for the tests/exams, but I would say it's pretty hard to outright fail.
As long as you show up to the lectures and take good notes you will do well in his courses. He does talk a lot in his lectures but overall they are quite engaging. No required textbook and no homework outside of the assignments. Loved having him as a prof and would love to have him again.
2 assignments, 2 midterms, and a final exam. prof want was a great lecturer, very passionate about psychology. explained concepts in depth. assessments had clear, in depth feedback, and it's easy to do well if you pay attention. go to the lectures, he often leaves out part of the slides.
Dr Want was honestly amazing. He explains the course concept really well and offers help during the break he provides and even after class! He has 2 tests, 2 assignments and 1 in person final exam. His slides are very easy to follow and if you attend the lectures, getting a good mark is easy. I would definitely take him again!
The only professor whose classes I was happy to attend during my first semester of nursing. If you have him for PSY102, you are so lucky:) It makes learning funny and inspirational.
If you have Want, you are set. Lectures aren't necessarily but I IMPLORE you to attend, you will be doing your exam and HIS examples will be what you remember during the exam. Amazing professor, truly cares what he teaches and makes it enjoyable to learn. Marks are nicely distributed for this course and the content isn't heavy or hard.
He's a good prof, and I plan to take his course again. I'll push myself harder next time for an A. He's kind, supportive, but a bit intimidating. Lectures are dense, so take notes, study hard, and ask questions. He's a tough marker, but overall very fair and encouraging. Stephen Want, if you're reading this, you know who wrote it!
professor want is great, hes so genuinely interested in what hes teaching, this course was honestly pretty easy though its graded on a decent amount of stuff, its all based off the lectures, its important to attend but he makes it fun!he does real examples in class for understandung
Super fun guy, a lot of his lectures would incorporate the topic being discussed, which was very immersive and enjoyable. There technically is a textbook but the work and tests revolve around the lectures wayy more. He elaborates well on the slide contents, so I suggest actually going to classes. 2 assignments and 2 tests, then just the final.
Amazing prof that really knows how to engage his students into his lectures. Using jokes, experiments and clear explanations he truly sets you up for success. Course is divided up very well, assignments and tests are not too hard, both with very clear guidelines. Final was accurate to the lectures and he posts his slides with some missing info
professor want is caring and sweet. he always wants the best for us and his lectures are very helpful and interesting. i find that he is very passionate about what he teaches and he does not read off the slides, but explains further.
Prof was an amazing and sweet teacher. He always wanted what was best for us. His exams weren't too hard. Just make sure to attend lectures because most of the content he posts some key details are always missing. Would def take his class again
