Very hard, confusing, unhelpful, does not give proper instuctions, hard quizes, for all of his 4 classes the highest average class has 70%. If i could i would chenge him at any moment for any other professor

Not helpful professor. very unclear and does not employ helpful teaching techniques. does not answer student's questions in a clear manner. an awkward person to communicate with.
Very difficult class b/c of tests. He is very helpful and is very willing to explain difficult material. Doing practice problems everyday is key to getting an A.
He makes you feel very stupid when you try to seek help. Plus, I've heard that others had an even worse time than I did! Butthead.

Dr. Warren is a wonderful person, very passionate about chemistry.
He is an awful teacher. He doesn't explain anything, so plan on learning it all yourself out of the book. He only gives out 1 or 2 A's a semester, so plan on working you butt off
Made the material very dificult. Only explains the easy concepts, so you have to teach yourself everything else. However, he is willing to answer quesitons. hard grader too.
hard teacher, but there are not that many options for this class anyway. i will pray for you.
very nice guy but bad teacher. but then again, the entire subject of chemistry sucks. so it won't really matter who you take.
Just prepare yourself for hell and teaching yourself EVERYTHING! If this is your first time taking chemistry you will struggle!

He is a very nice guy and is wonderful in office hours...it is your job to make the effort. He cares about you as a student and will do anything to help you understand. Sometimes his lectures seem unimportant but pay attention because they help on the tests!!
He is willing to help outside of class, which is good because you will need it. He really taught me to hate Organic Chemistry. His tests are impossible...the average grade on the class final was a D. I do not think this is acceptable.Tests are rarely based on problems you have actually learned. I would suggest taking a different professor.
he is great during office hours! sometimes lectures are boring - but organic chem is boring so what do you expect! it is your job as a science major at gonzaga to work hard - get used to the fact that not everything in life comes easily!
Warren is a great professor. I have taken two chem classes from him and both have gone well. If you think he is hard, it is because you are either lazy or stupid. He tells you what to study for and if you work problems from the back of the book, especially in o. chem, you will do fine because most of the problems are the same.
First off, the man is brilliant. Really. But that doesn't make a good teacher. He doesn't seem to care about teaching at all. When I went to his office to ask a question, he acted frustrated that I was even there. He made me feel really stupid instead of helping me out. In class, he seems really smug when people do poorly on a test. Avoid him!!!
I disagree with people saying this professor is helpful, or understanding. If you like to learn by him making you feel stupid and idiotic then by all means take this course. It is nearly impossible and by the way, I did study the required time. Our average test score was a D most of the time. Avoid this one.
Dr Warren is the man. Easily one of the smartest men I've ever met. He expects a TON out of his students, but if you take the time and put the effort in, it's all worth it. He is not the hardest teacher ever, or the meanest man ever. In fact he is far from. He just expects you to get as excited about chemistry as he does.
Dr. Warren is awesome. Brilliant, helpful, kind, and passionate about chemistry. Yes, his classes are very hard, but all upper division chem classes will be. You will learn a ton from him if you put in the effort. It's definitely worth it.
a pure scientist, loves chemistry but is not a very good teacher at all. if you do the suggested problems from the book you will have no problems with his tests but if youre a little lazy it might be challenging for you.
I had Warren for lab. If you get over the fact that he will probably make you feel stupid when he talks to you, then he's not really that bad of a guy. Go see him in his office and he will help out a lot. He knows his stuff and if you want to get on his good side, ask him about the medicine research he does. It's actually pretty interesting.
Professor Warren is a good teacher. I feel like he gave anough explanation for concepts, and was more than willing to help you outside class. For a chemsitry professor, I'd recommend him. Just make sure you DO THE HOMEWORK and you should be fine.
Professor Warren is kind of a weird guy, he definitely knows his chemistry stuff though. His class wasnt that interesting but if you follow along and read the textbook its not hard. If you dont really do anything it can seem confusing and sometimes he was critisized for not giving enough examples. If your a good student, he is a good professor.
absolutely cannot pay attention in his class
Dr. Warren is one of the best Organic Professors hands down!!! He was so awesome, I requested that he be my academic advisor. Now he may be too smart for Gen. Chem., but he will be the best to take for O-chem. Gives great partial credit and extra credit and has jokes. Most test questions are stuff he goes over in class or online homework problems.
Wonderful teacher! Is very clear on everything, exceptional at outside of class help. Does absolutely everything he can to help you succeed. Very fair grader. Highly, HIGHLY recommend Dr. Warren! He's amazing!
Possibly the most condescending professor I have ever had this misfortune of meeting. Thinks he is righteously endowed with indelible chemistry knowledge. Made every interaction outside of class unnecessarily confrontational. Rakes on physician with every opportunity he gets, because he couldn't cut the grade himself.
Warren is brilliant. This makes it difficult to explain concepts in "laymans" terms however he is extremely helpful when you go talk to him during office hours. If you show you care than he will care about your grade too. If he is rude to you it's probably because he feels you don't care about his class. So care.
No doubt this class is difficult. His lectures aren't so helpful sometimes and the book can be confusing. But if you see him in his office hours he is willing to help you to all extents, he cares about your success and will make arrangements meeting with you just to help you. Good professor, very smart! Hard class.
I had Dr. Warren for OChem Lab. He seemed really scary at the start of the semester, but as time went on, he really relaxed and became a nice guy. He always would take time before lab to answer any questions and to make sure we understood what we were doing. Ask him about his research and his kids and you will be on his good side! Great lab prof!
Organic chemistry is going to be hard no matter what. Dr. Warren really cares about his students. Tests were fair and he gave a good amount of extra credit. If you did poorly on an exam, you could still get a very good grade in the class. I'd recommend him any day! Compared to other ochem teachers here, he is the most helpful.
No matter what professor, ochem is going to be hard. However, Dr. Warren is aware of this and makes every effort to help you succeed. His test are more than fair, and his grading is as well. He is extremely helpful in office hours and makes class fun and exciting. I would recommend him 100%!
Everyone seems to love him for O. Chem but he's obviously not the same teacher or gen. chem. Like others have said he is confrontational and impatient with his Chem101 students. He gives very few examples if any because he is busy wasting his time with unfunny, pointless jokes. Could be worse but could be a lot better.
Very rude man with a condescending attitude. Assigns a homework load that will sap time away from all your other classes. Very esoteric, often responds to questions in class with "I don't know, and I don't care". Do not take his General Chemistry class.
Overall a very helpful professor. Really wants his students to learn and understand the material. It's a difficult subject, but to succeed you just need to attend class and read the book, just like any other college course. Have to be willing to put in the hours to succeed and Warren will definitely help you succeed through his teaching methods.
Difficult subject but Warren helps make it more understandable than other profs. Genuinely a nice man with funny stories about his Guinea hens! Easy to talk with in and out of class and very helpful when explaining topics in Ochem. Best prof I've had at Gonzaga, especially in the science department!
Dr. Warren is possibly the least helpful professor I have ever had. He is unclear in teaching, acts as if it's a task to answer your questions and then doesn't even answer them, and expects you to understand concepts he never explains. DO NOT TAKE FOR GEN. CHEM.
Great for organic chemistry. He cares about your education. He's not easy because O-chem is hard no way around it. Cares about you learning the material and cares about your stress level in the class. If you want a teacher who cares about the student take Warren. Can't recommend enough.
His lectures are difficult to follow, and if you like to have detailed notes, don't take him. If you're used to getting a good grade, this class will make you think otherwise. I honestly learned more from my OChem Lab professor than from him. Dr. Warren does tell interesting stories and jokes at times, if you like that in a professor.
Dr. Warren is a very friendly guy, and is always willing to help you if you go to his office hours. He'll practically tell what's going to be on an exam of you go to his office and show a desire to learn. In lecture he can move fast at times and is probably not the best chem teacher at GU, but he's one of your better options. Would recommend.
Super sweet guy! He really wants to help you do well and learn chemistry. He's pretty darn quirky, but definitely one of the easier chemistry professors at GU.
I really struggled in this class. His lectures had nothing to do with anything on the exams. The exams were way more difficult than any example he did in class. We were taught only a small portion of the material, and were expected to perform way more challenging problems on the exam. He was very nice and friendly though.
Dr. Warren is hands down the best professor I've had. The course is hard because Organic chemistry is one of the hardest classes you can take. However, if he sees that you care about his class, he will care about your grade. He is extremely helpful outside of class, and he is really nice. I would 100% take another class with him.
AVOID Dr. Warren! He is so confusing and answers every question with a question. He does not understand that good grades matter to students. He also would hold my lab class later than our scheduled lab time which made us late to lecture. DON'T TAKE HIM.
I took Dr. Warren for both O Chem I and II. I would totally recommend him if you are looking to take O Chem! His lectures are great if you engage and he is always open to questions. His tests are very difficult but he is known to normalize grades. His quizzes are group quizzes, which boost your grade immensely. Necessary to work outside of class.
He's an odd man, but he loves chemistry and he wants you to learn through experience rather than him just telling you how things are. He can be monotone but that doesnt mean that what he is saying isnt important and helpful. Try your best to have an open mind because he truly has incredible information and experience he wants to share.
Dr. Warren bases his lectures heavily off student questions, so they are often disorganized and if no one asks anything he doesn't give the class that much information. Also he doesn't assign hw which can be bad because you don't practice. If you truly want to do well, you're basically reading the textbook, because his tests cover everything.
Dr. Warren's class was heavily based on the textbook, but I appreciated that he wasn't strict about completing all the practice problems, etc -- it was more what you felt you needed to understand concepts. Quizzes were group quizzes and he really cares about your grade. He's really approachable outside of class, so utilize that!
Worst professor I have ever had. If you don't go into office hours you will not pass the class. Expects you to be writing lab's at a senior dissertation level when this is a freshman-level class. Is not very helpful in office hours and comes off very rude and degrading. Avoid if at all possible
Dr. Warren is the worst Organic Chem professor at Gonzaga stay FAR away. He grades extremely harsh and expects you to be writing labs like you've been doing them your whole life. Condescending especially in office hours but if you don't go to office hours you won't pass. He's also extremely disorganized and cares more about research than class.
WORST science professor I've ever had. Leads class by questions from students so if you don't do the reading then don't expect to have a lecture. He can be kinda rude in office hours (multiple people have said this as well). Tests are extremely difficult and he honestly expects everyone to be perfect even though he isn't perfect himself. AVOID!
They do not give good feedback nor do they give any feedback for that matter. Very disorganized, anticipate not receiving any work back at all. They do not grade this course to the level that it pertains to: ie, this is a freshman course, however, it is graded as strict as a senior level course. Choose instructors carefully, or you'll regret it.
DO NOT TAKE. 1. Extremely disorganized. Never returns graded work so you never know what your grade is until the semester is over 2. Extremely hard grader but is very unclear on what he is looking for 3. Rude in office hours if you ask for help, sometimes he isn't even there 4. Never answers his email 5. The worst professor I've ever had
Be prepared to work and study hard! A lot of the learning I did was on my own, as Dr. Warren is intimidating outside of class. He is funny and adds interesting details during lecture. The group quizzes are nice, but the exams are very heavy and he doesn't mark what you did wrong. He's not very good with technology, so patience is key.
This course was beyond stressful and was, at times, very demanding. He can seem difficult and feel that your hard work goes unnoticed but trust me when saying that if you really work and do the assigned reading, you will do just fine. Beware of worksheets as they are only graded out of 2 points and must be perfect to get 2/2. Go to office hours!
Very hard to work with. Assignments were not graded until the week after finals so no one had any clue how they were doing in the class. Pretty rude in office hours sometimes and I personally felt like he didn't care about teaching.... Likes to answer a question with another question which doesn't work well for a lot of people. Avoid if you can.
This class did not have mandatory attendance, but Dr. Warren would pick on students who showed up in class and become upset if they did not know the answers to questions. There was very unclear due dates for assignments and the class had poor structure for assignments.
Seriously try to avoid Warren's class. He is a smart guy, but it doesn't translate to his teaching. He is terrible at answering questions and his lectures are filled with awkward silences. Very unclear with what he wants for his assignments and grades very tough. The worst class I've had at Gonzaga.
The worst Ochem professor at Gonzaga. Hes very smart but very condescending and has made it clear he doesnt enjoy teaching. The whole semester felt like he was trying to make us fail rather than make us do well. His grading is extremely tough for no reason, although I did well in the class I had a lot of help and it wasnt from him. Avoid!!,
Worst professor I have ever taken. He is very condescending and he has actually said he isn't at GU for teaching but rather for research. Even if you go to office hours for help he just makes you feel bad about asking questions. Never returns work and grades EXTREMELY harshly. Avoid at all costs
Dr. Warren is tough to talk to and is not approachable at all. His answer to a lot of questions is to study more. His teaching style is to go through a bunch of reactions and not fully explain what is happening. Also, he never grades anything at a decent time. Honestly an awful professor, avoid if possible!!!
Dr. Warren likes to teach by having students answer his questions which is not helpful at all. He is not personable or approachable, and disappears for 3/4 of lab time. He also leaves his grading to last minute and forgets things like a conclusion being based upon completion. He will not round your grade even if you're .2% from an A.
DO NOT TAKE DR. WARREN!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS. He is a great guy personality-wise, but it is obvious that he does not enjoy teaching at all and would rather be researching instead. I took him only because I had no other option and it was a huge mistake. I had to rely heavily on my lab professor just to get through the course.
If there is any rate my professor score you should take seriously, it's this one. Students hate him so much the university has started listing his courses as "no professor assigned yet" during registration so they can dupe students into registering for his class. If you get stuck with him be prepared to read the book over and over to teach yourself
Take another professor for lab! Dr Warren is a nice guy but is never around during class and doesnt help to answer questions, even in office hours. Assignments take forever to be graded, and you're left to figure things out yourself.
If you are in his lab my biggest advice is to not be afraid to ask questions. He starts his labs with no words of help or warning and you are left on your own devices- but he WILL help you, you just have to be the one to ask. Make sure to ask him to check your equations as you go along- he will help and it keeps you from making dumb mistakes.
Incredibly condescending and really difficult to get ahold of - not sure how he is in lecture but avoid him for lab
I feel this course was lacking in several areas. I feel concepts would get 1 example and you would be expected to have the concept mastered. Tests were extremely difficult compared to homework and quizzes. Quizzes were done in groups on the bright side.
Spent an hour of lab lecturing for every class. Answers questions with questions.
Dr. Warren is a nice guy and a great chemistry professor. O-Chem is overall a very hard subject to master. Dr. Warren can sometimes be a bit intimidating, but he is very nice and understanding once you get to know him. If you don't like chemistry, then avoid him because it is hard to build a relationship with him if you don't put in the time.
Dr. Warren comes across as a man who has a "holier than thou" mindset, which is just aggravating. The lecture before lab was always a bore, and he expected us to know everything despite the fact that we had little to no knowledge of ochem. Very hard to approach and I asked my TA more questions since he was much kinder. Avoid in general.
Doctor Warren is a sadistic flesh pedestrian who wants nothing more than to gate keep his field. I dropped is class and took it again with a sane professor and got an A.
Avoid him if you can. If you can't, you will pass & if you study a lot you could get a good grade. He gives extra credit, test corrections, & curves. I had him for OChem 1 & 2 and if you get to know him and participate in class he will like you. He is a nice guy and he wants you to succeed but he is very tough & tests are not very straightforward.
He talks alot and you will never get out of lab early but he is a caring guy and always willing to help. Lab was boring during the lecture times but when you are actually in the lab he is a funny man.
Dr. Warren is a great choice for lab. O-chem in general is very hard and takes a lot of work but Dr. Warren grades very fairly and almost everyone ends with an A (if they didn't drop the class). He caring and will help you out at anytime, beware that he can be long winded in getting his point across which is why a lot of people don't like him.
I was worried about having Dr. Warren because of the other reviews I had read here but after taking his class I have to say that he was a very good professor. Yes, the class was difficult, but Warren was a very caring professor who listened to his students and was willing to make adjustments to the class/schedule because he wants you to succeed!
Dr. Warren is the best. In recent years he's lightened up a lot and his labs are super fun and enjoyable. His grading is super straightforward and honestly pretty easy.
Dr. Warren is an awesome guy. People say that the class of 2024 changed him because before us he was not a fan favorite. Now he is literally so funny and lets his personality show. He is super chill and will help you when needed. Everyone in the lab got help and in the lecture, he basically walked you through the worksheets.
OChem is a tough class but Professor Warren gives lots of opportunities to do better (curves, quizzes, extra credit etc.). The tests are difficult but he did cover all of the material included on the tests during class. Definitely go to office hours and participate.
Dr. Warren is a pleasant person to talk to outside of class but he is not a very good lecturer. It was quite difficult to learn OChem mechanisms from him due to a lack of structure in his lectures and a tendency to drone. My grade in OChem II is far better (B-) due to taking a different prof for that class, so be prepared to struggle
Dr. Warren is a very knowledgeable and funny professor. For lab, his grading criteria were very clear and as long as you follow his instructions you will not have an issue. He tends to lecture for a while but in the end you end up learning everything pretty well. Organic chemistry is a hard class/lab and he makes it a manageable one.
not great- had him for Lab. Worst lab professor I've had. He doesn't answer any questions and really makes you feel dumb for not knowing. Yea he gets a bad rep- its for a reason. If you don't have to take him, don't.
Dr. Warren's CHEM230 is not for the faint of heart. If you tackle this class like you've tackled classes in your K-12 education, you may fail. This class requires you to listen to the lecture, read the book, and do all the practice problems in the book. Even then, you may struggle on the exams.
Dr. Warren gets a bad reputation for being much worse than he actually is. While he writes challenging exams, he will grade fairly as long as you show you're putting in the work. Reading the book outside of the class is absolutely crucial to understanding his lectures. As long as you are putting in the work you will have no problems with him
Dr. Warren is probably the best teacher to get for o-chem. Highly recommend, as with any o-chem class it might be slightly challenging but in the end you'll do very well if you pay attention and stay up to date.
If you're taking organic chemistry, definitely try to get Dr. Warren. He makes tough material way more understandable and keeps the class interesting. It's challenging like any o-chem course, but with him, it feels manageable—and you'll actually learn. Stay on top of things and you'll do really well.
Dr. Warren is the professor everyone hopes to get for organic chemistry. He explains concepts clearly, cares about students doing well, and keeps lectures engaging. The class is challenging, but with him, it feels doable. If you put in the effort and stay caught up, you'll succeed for sure.
Dr. Warren really knows how to teach organic chemistry in a way that makes sense. He breaks down tough topics and gives helpful examples during lectures. It's still a hard class, but he makes it feel less overwhelming. As long as you put in the work and don't fall behind, you'll do great.
Dr. Warren is one of those professors who actually makes organic chemistry make sense. He's super clear in his explanations and really wants students to succeed. The course is tough, but with his teaching style, it's way more manageable. Just stay engaged and keep up with the material—you won't regret taking him.
Dr. Warren is an awesome choice for o-chem. He's organized, explains things really well, and is always willing to help if you're stuck. The material can be tough, but he makes it way less intimidating. If you're willing to put in the effort, you'll definitely come out with a solid understanding.
Dr. Warren is hands down one of the best options for organic chemistry. He teaches in a clear, straightforward way and actually makes the subject interesting. It's not an easy class, but he sets you up to succeed if you stay on track. Totally worth taking if you get the chance.
Dr. Warren makes organic chemistry way more approachable than you'd expect. He's clear, supportive, and really knows how to explain difficult concepts. It's still a challenging class, but with him, it feels totally doable. If you get the chance to take him, go for it—you'll learn a lot and feel confident by the end.
Dr. Warren is a fantastic professor for organic chemistry. He's clear, organized, and genuinely wants students to understand the material. The class is tough, like any o-chem course, but his teaching makes a huge difference. If you stay on top of the work, you'll not only survive—you'll do really well.
75% of the time you will be teaching urself. Everyday there's a competency quiz that you have to get a 90% on for it to count (only 10 questions). Expect to do at least 300 HW problems for each unit. Took one class period to teach us all of a chapter and the next class, we had a test. He can be stand offish and hard to talk to… blank stares.
He has a bad rep for a reason. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but he's just horrible. He doesn't really teach and only does reactions on the board. Most of the time you're gonna teach yourself. He wants you to spend 10+ hours a week studying ochem. He can be a funny guy but he isn't the best prof for ochem.
Had to drop this class because of how horrible this class is. Organic chemistry is hard ofc, but it would be less hard if Warren knew how to teach rather than expecting us to teach ourselves. Do not take his class.
Dr. Warren gets an awful reputation, but he is genuinely so caring! lectures are super unorganized but if you go to office hours and do the homework you will 100% get an okay grade. He grades exams VERY fairly, and there are lots of opportunities to get extra points that buffer your grade. Took him for first OCHEM class and am taking him again.
I prayed to get hit by an asteroid everyday walking to his class. Other than that, he's really accessible outside of class and is generally very helpful when asking questions one on one. He can be somewhat passive aggressive if you don't do things "his way". Dr. Warren is more helpful in lab than lecture, so be warned.
There was an unrealistic expectation to read over 100 pages for each lab. He explained the concepts that were in the readings in the prelab talks, so I didn't really find them to be necessary. He wasted lots of time during the prelab talks asking questions that were so basic we couldn't find the answer. He was really helpful in office hours though.
Ochem is just a tough class and people that rate him badly don't understand that. Just wish that he actually lectured instead of letting some people ask an office hour kind of question during class. You can talk to him and classmates on quizzes, and he helps as much as he can if you have a question during the exam. Takes some getting used to is all
