Really good teacher...knows what he is teaching...a lot of hard work but its still fun and he has really good office hours...definitely an A++ teacher
Good teacher. Takes the time to prove things in class and exercises patience when asked a question about something someone should have learned a couple math classes ago. Clearly loves what he does and deserves much credit for it.
Good professor and will break everything you learn in class down for you.
I took his math 110 class online. Every exam was seriously easy, and there are hardly any homeworks. Definitely take this online!
Clearly the best mathematics professor at MC! Took this class on line and Prof Wheatley took the time to upload pre-recorded videos of all the lessons. You will need to work hard, but you will certainly learn from this professor. Top notch!
He is so hard and not easy going. i don't recommed his class.
Be prepared to write fast, and all class period...if not ur style, then majority of material is from textbook. He creates his own HW assignments, so no looking at solutions manual for them :( very helpful for any questions in or out of class. Extremely excited about math. Doesn't make you feel dumb, but he doesn't let you slack either.
He amazing, he loves to teach and it shows. He's extremely clear on what he wants you to learn, he breaks it down into plain english.Hw is easy and test are simple bcuz he puts up practice problems and reviews them before the test. If you want to learn more about math TAKE HIM! If you just want to pass take him as well.
I love the subject, but the teacher couldnt teach me 1+1=2 In fact if he was to review that to me I would loose it and have to get special tutoring. Everything I knew about math disappeared in my head the second I sat in his classroom. Great guy but bad teacher. I took him because of the high ratings on RMP.com but very disappointed. (i am an A stu
btw he goes way to fast. like we know the stuff already. sorry. just want ppl to know
very nice professor, but I don't think statistics is his groove. I spent A LOT of time in the math center trying to figure out what was going on in class. I hear Kotz is very good at Statistics as well as Dr. Osbourne (he tutored me) I don't know about other math classes but I would suggest a different professor for stats.
This is the worst teacher ever. His notes suck just like his videos, I basically had to teach myself the entire class. Even when I went in for helped he was useless. I wouldn't take him again if he was the only teacher on earth.
I disagree w/ previous comment b/c i also took MA280 online and he was always on time answering any questions in forums and emails. He grades quickly while putting in effort with all comments. The class itself is hard, but this is the best prof hands down. the test are not hard, just do hw probs and watch videos and youll def get an A!!!
Solid teacher. I was nervous about taking Calculus, but prof. Wheatley made the subject clear and understandable enough for me to get an A. He truly takes interest in mathematics. No real complaints about the class. I would take Prof. Wheatley again
IDK where to start but prof Wheatley is the man always there when you need him..we have reviews session for exam and exams are so easy..he aint there to make your life hard but study and do the online homework...(at the begging is hard to adapt to him but once you do is your world) I love his way of teaching and highly recommend..so helpful
great teacher. He does go a little fast but he covers everything you need for the tests.
I took an online class with this professor. He only gave us one deadline - the end of the semester, to submit all the homework and tests. His test were very fair, and covered the same material as the homework. Final grading was my higher than what was expected :)
math is a difficult subject for me, and would not suggest this course for anyone who needs more instruction, I spent a lot of time with math tutors on campus. Professor grades kindly and only requests that all homework (21@25%) exams(3@50%) and final(25%) be completed by the end of the semester.
Pre cal was a piece a cake because of this man..he makes things clear and simply..I love him taking him for cal1 again Highly recomended..
Great Professor. Structures his lectures in a very helpful way. Exams questions will always be modeled after homework questions, which is the way it should be. Highly recommended.
His random tangents he made to try to clarify topics during lectures made his teaching more confusing, but overall, he was a good teacher. He replied to emails quickly and worked out the problems if we needed help. The tests he made were also very easy, and he doesn't take off many points for mistakes.
He his by far the best professor ever. Sure he can go fast, but he explains super well. quizzes and exams are no not hard. Very understanding. If you have the basic in math then you should be good. He grades pretty well. I hihly recommend him for any math class. :) He made me loves math more than I did.
GREAT PROFESSOR, HIGHLY RECOMMAND. VERY HELPFUL AND CLEAR ABOUT EXPLANATION. HE IS SO FAR THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR AT MC
Great professor! What really made me happy was that he did not require the $200 textbook. He is great at explaining things and as long as you do your homework and study the review guides, you'll do fine on the tests.
Math is hard! I took precalc with him and it was a piece of cake. I took calc 1 with 2 other differnt professors and they just could not go in detail enough when explaining unlike prof Wheatley. The biggest mistake I did was take someone else besides Wheatley for math. Overall if you want to pass and understand math take Wheatley.
He is the best teacher in MC.I Loved his class. hard homework, but easy exam.
Professor Wheatley is a wonderful teacher! He was always very kind and answered my questions right away. One deadline for class- everything due at the end. 21 homeworks and 4 tests to be taken on campus. Tests are handwritten, pretty fair, and graded kindly. You can't go wrong with this awesome teacher! A++
First off, this is no introductory class; you got to study harder as you do usual by working more math problems to master the material. Textbook isn't required but it's definitely needed for this class. He's definitely a good professor but take him for Calculus 1 instead
He is the best math teacher ever. This teacher is so easy to understand, and he really cares about his students. Exams are easier than homework. And, there is no quizzes in this class. He is always willing to answer to any kind of questions, even by email. I highly recommend this teacher, and i will take him for calculus 1 again, even calculus 2.
the best at MC. doesnt require text book, very wellspoken, grades hw on time and if u got the hw wrong he'll go over it.
I couldn't have asked for a better calc 1 professor. he is very dedicated to his students, he is encouraging and he wants his students to pass. he goes over homework in class and spends as much time as needed. he is very passionate about mathematics and wants his students to feel the same. by taking him you will learn a lot! I definitely recommend.
Bad part is minor it's just that for homeworks & tests he SOMETIMES isn't too nice about giving partial credit. The class is pretty easy if you look over & understand your notes. He's very helpful and REALLY wants to make sure you understand. Spends quite a bit of time going over hw in class. 2 exams(40%) a final(30%) & homework(30%)
I love math, but after taking this class, i'm not so sure about that anymore. He is really nice and tries to help, but I had trouble following his lectures. He helps a lot on the online hw if you ask, but the hand-in hw is so hard. His office hours are inconvenient for me, so it was hard to get help. The tests aren't that bad, just study!
Multivariable is hard. Wheatley really focuses on giving you a conceptual understanding as opposed to throwing a bunch of formulas at you. His lectures are on MC's Youtube channel if you want a feel for his teaching style (search MA280). It's actually really nice to go back through your notes while watching them. Go to him for help with homework.
Great guy Very helpful! Go to office hours if you need, even more helpful there. Do not purchase the text. Homework in free online platform.
Best Math teacher ever. He TEACHES! He doesn't do practice, practice, practice! He does teaching, practice, teaching practice, teaching practice. He teaches the information before he practices with you. He's the best! Love this dude! I will recommend him all the time! Best professor ever! Except, sometimes he's a little late to class.
He is helpful outside of class.
Great Professor, Makes you love Math and wants to make sure the students understand the content rather than testing them with hard complex problems.
is lectures are so lengthy and long... Also he doesn't just each you key concepts and do lot of problems but he is very wordy so beware!!! you have to write a during lecture. Also, he gives homework sets to do everyday and it makes sense when you solve them bu he take tedious points of on the questions. and its so annoying .
His lectures are a bit lengthy, but he uses a free online platform which is a great money saver. Tests are a bit short but rely on somewhat complex problems.
He makes his students want to work hard. I would DEFINITELY take him as my professor if I can get opportunity to take him again.
Multivariable Calculus is a hard class, but prof Wheatley teaches things very clearly and accurately. You can tell that he knows his stuff and he can typically explain it in a way that we'll understand it. You don't need the textbook at all. If you go to class and do the homework you shouldn't have a problem. He is a very lenient test grader.
A pretty average professor, in terms of lectures, homework, and grading. Doesn't always answer students' questions with a straightforward response. He's fond of a student if he or she is passing, but if falling behind, he doesn't have much interest in helping. At the very least, doesn't really care about all of his students' success.
He is very organized and teaches really well. I took his class during he summer so attendance WAS necessary, because you DO learn something new everyday. He makes you want to work hard and is a very fair grader.
Professor Wheatley is a wonderful professor. He is very orgnazined and helpful. He encourages seeing him in his office hours and is very clear in his examples during lecture. If you pay attention and do the work then you will do well in his class.
Professor. Wheatley is quite passionate about math to the point where it influences his language towards the class: at times he can be hard to follow and asking him to explain something doesn't guarantee you'll receive the clarity you sought. He is a good professor, but If you don't have a math brain, I would recommend someone else.
I had Professor Wheatly for PreCal and Cal I & he is such a great teacher because he always trys explain things to where he may even so try to dumb things down so you would understand. You wouldnt have to buy a textbook because he uses a web base system to do HW. Don't expect to understand everything in one lecture, Ask questions and Review notes.
His teaching style just didn't work for me, so the online lectures and notes were almost useless. Textbook was necessary because of this. I taught myself most of the stuff for multi variable online but he was always available for help. Doesn't really give partial credit so exams are tough.
He is always available for help and he will help you really understand Calc.
Prof. Whealey is a good prof who explains cal concepts well. His class is easy as long as you have a SOLID foundation in algebra and precal. Hand-in HW can be difficult. If you have a math brain, you are most likely to enjoy his lectures. If you don't have a math brain, reading the textbook and studying examples taught in class will help a lot.
Clear, logical lecture flow. Answers questions very well. Doesn't post grades, but grades can be calculated close to the end of the year. Doesn't use a textbook but if you want extra practice, there are numbers provided in a textbook that you can use to practice with. Grades calculated from 5 Hand In Homework, Online homework, 2 exams, and final.
If you enjoy hours of online lectures which don't translate linearly to the material expected of you, this is the class for you.
He is very passionate about what he does and really strives for his students to learn something from the class. Definitely a hard grader, but he leaves notes on things you did wrong. Very considerate when it comes to assignment dates. A solid math professor.
really nice professor , sometimes when you ask a question you wont get a clear answer especially during class, but you can always get help later. make sure you pay attention to lectures as a lot of what he does directly correlates to the homeworks. exams cover the same topics as the homeworks, but the questions will be phrased differently
Dr. Wheatley is a very smart professor. I have no complaints about him as a teacher but taking the class online was challenging. I took the full online class (no synchronous lectures) and the videos they use are quite old. You have to pause a lot to write things down so that takes time. His review packets prepare you very well for the exams.
Professor Wheatley is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Every day of class he comes with a smile, and his jolliness spreads across the class. His lectures are quite helpful and he did his best to help us during the pandemic. He is a great person and he is very helpful, but be aware because he is a harsh grader. Truly wish the best for him.
The great math professor/teacher I've had as of this far. It's obvious that Professor Wheatley cares about his students learning the content. His lectures are easy to understand and he grades generously on exams. Awesome professor!
Super duper ! Professor Wheatley delivered exemplary lectures and clearly explained every concept and went over problems - should anyone have difficulty with it. The exams are based on the review packets he gives out before hand. The hand-in homeworks are where you have to put the most effort. Take him if you're taking any MATH class.
Dr. Wheatley is an awesome instructor, he explains the material thoughtfully and is always excited to teach. The vibe in the class is always great, no matter the time of the day.
Explains everything properly and doesn't move on until all is understood and is very caring as professor; a bit hard on grading but always gives the feedback to make sure the mistakes aren't made again and is definitely a professional at his job
Intelligent, inspirational, and considerate. The best professor I've had so far. Motivated me to pursue a math degree.
Professor W kept hitting on my friend, he made unprofessional comments. Very anti-establishment. I was stunned. He is odd, yet passionate about math. Personally I think he has some issues.
Amazing professor who takes his time to make sure every kid understands before he moves on. Great lectures and amazing notes that are perfect to follow along with. Very nice and passionate teacher! Would definitely take again.
Amazing professor who takes his time and makes sure each kid understands before moving on. Clear notes that are perfect to follow and lectures that really help you learn. Very nice and passionate teacher. Would definitely take again!
Professor Wheatley was amazing in Calculus 1. He is very respectful, and never shames a student for needing help. He's very flexible with deadlines if you need help with getting things done, but as long as you go to class and attempt to learn, you're set. I would 100% take this professor again.
Very good professor, very clear with what's required and very consistent. Easy to understand lectures and is very open to help. Occasionally the homework is too heavy or covers things not mentioned in the lectures, but there's ways around it.
He gives excellent lectures, very caring and respectful. The material is tough, but Dr. Wheatley is always happy to help in or outside of class.
This professor is great. Being on time and present to each class is important. There is a ton of homework, but he is flexible with deadlines. Wheatley is respectful and kind, and never shames students that need help. I would recommend this professor to anyone needing to take this course.
dr wheatley is the goat. i love dr wheatley. very fun class, hes super funny and chill.
Dr. Wheatley gives online lectures for each topic tested on the exam covering practice problems of similar difficulty. The exams he gives are pretty easy as long as you pay attention to the class. The homework he gives is MUCH harder than the actual exam and isn't anywhere close to the lectures and exams.
Unless you are a Math major, I wouldn't recommend this professor AT ALL. On a 10-question final + 7 ec points, I missed 1 question and made half-right answers on 3 questions. Objectively, this means I should've gotten at least an 80-85%. But because he nitpicked even what I got fully correct, I ended up getting a 62% and barely passed the course.
The lectures were engaging and difficult topics were explained in a way that made them easy to understand. Dr. Wheatley is a tough grader but exam questions themselves aren't super difficult unless you didn't prepare properly. He's pretty fun to talk to after class too.
Dr. Wheatley is the standard of what an awesome professor should be! Although this was a completely online course (you work at your own pace), he made sure we understood the content in order to be prepared for exams. He is willing to work with you as long as you put in the effort, and he gives partial credit on exams as long as you explain yourself
Consider yourself lucky if you find a spot open for one of his classes. He made learning math more tolerable than other professors and really made sure we understood content. He seems to really care about his students and it shows through the way he teaches. Definitely recommend taking him for math!
Best math teacher EVER! I was a little nervous taking his distance learning online class, but it went well! All homework is to be done online at your own pace. Exams were scheduled to take on campus. A little fast paced, but definitely tolerable. Math isn't my best subject, but somehow I managed to do really well in his class!
Professor Stephen is an amazing professor, always willing to help students even after class. He is so flexible. He covers all his course on time. He is punctual and very professional. He treats his class very nicely.
Dr Wheatley makes the class interesting regardless of whether you're taking the class for a requirement or out of interest. He adapts his lecture pacing with the topic, so it never feels like a topic is lingering too long or being rushed through. His homework and exam feedback is helpful and he is often available outside his office hours for help.
Would honestly not recommend if you're doing DLWeb. Vids were 13 yrs old w/ notes written on a white board where you can't see the info unless it's zoomed in. Paused often due to the camera not zooming in long enough. Decent teaching style, responds fast to emails, and you can tell he enjoys math. HW is harder than exams. Study and you'll be fine.
He was an incredibly professor, with an great style of teaching. His lectures were straight to the point and prepared us well for the exams to come. His exams mirrored what we learned in class which made our studying worth the while. He always tried to balance our homework with exams, giving us an opportunity to be on top of our grades. Awesome guy
Fantastic Professor! His best qualities as a teacher are his attitude, productivity, and organization. Attitude: always wears a smile, energetic and engaging lectures, and very understanding Productive: excellent at answering questions, lectures are clear, students leave class confident Organization, due dates are clear, constant reminders
Dr. Wheatley is one of the best professors on campus. He's incredibly understanding and nice towards us, presenting information clearly and concisely. I have never had someone answer and address our questions in such a cheerful and judgment-free way. If I were offered to take the class again, I would 100% want to take the class with this professor.
If you are taking a math course this is THE GUY. Had him for the Summer 1 semester so we had very little time to cover all materials yet he still managed to cover everything in great detail. He's always willing to give feedback. He gives lots of homework but they make good practice. For the final he told what each question was going to be about.
He was nice and very cheery every time. He taught us super well in just one summer! He goes through important dates and stuff multiple times and keeps us updated too!
Took him in summer 1 and it wasn't really that bad! It was fast paced but if you get the homework done on time and take time to understand them, you'll be fine. The reviews were actually harder than the exams so if you really study his review sheets and do well, there's no reason to be super scared for the exam!
Took his summer calc class, he was hard to follow and went on tangents. He says in the syllabus that the participation matters when rounding grades, but even with me participating most classes and asking questions, he told me that he wouldn't round my 79.1 up because he thought I deserved it.
He is very nice and enthusiastic. very lenient, and you can tell he cares about the student perspective.
