He is the best.....i love him sooo much

I love this professor. He is by far one of the most educated professors here at BU. I learned more from his one semester class than the two years of English education I had prior. You are awesome Stephen.

Unless your damn good at writing english papers...as most aren't...he will tear your paper a new ****...hard grader!!!! Caution to all..Take Lawrence shes awesome

Even though this is by FAR the hardest class I've ever taken, I know that I've learned the most from it. All in all, he's a cool guy and a great educator. I have him next semester, too, and I'm thrilled, especially since it's not a 9:00 class this time.

A great teacher... any time you need to talk to him he helps sooo much, and although some may say he is a hard grader, I don't feel that way

GREAT TEACHER! I learned so much from him. Don't take European Lit if he's not teaching it. His tests arn't bad and the essay isn't bad either. As long as you do the readings and show up there is no reason not to get at least a B.

Amazing man, and great prof!! you have to work hard in his class, but he gives you all the help in the world! would def take him again!

What a great teacher and person in general. I definitely improved my writing and worked my butt off, but it was worth it. He's so easy to talk to and i love him. He's one professor that actually tries to get to know you.

awesome person and prof. he is laid back yet very knowledgable. he is open to new opinions which is a huge plus for him as a teacher. he's willing to learn things from us as well

What an awesome professor! He really cares about your opinion and your learning. He grades harder than anyone ive ever met, but he pushes you to learn new and difficult material that will help you out in the long run. His class prepares you for anything!

Stephen is a genius. I have learned a tremendous amount each time I've taken class with him. He gets a bad rep. because he's tough, but the challenge is worth it when you get your first A- from him!!

Best instructor I ever had in college. Really made me work. Lots of fun round A2, particularly if forced to wear fatigues in class one year into Clinton 1st. Excellent psychoanalytic approach especially with greeks. Handled Homer AND H.D. Cameron!

Wonderful teacher. Brilliant, extremely enthusiastic, cares a lot about the students. Easily one of the best profs in the department. Class with him is always enjoyable, and he really cares about what the students think.

He seems a bit scarry at first but he's a lot of fun! It's a lot of reading but every lit class is and I enjoyed him to the extreme! <3's for Steven

He's a very passionate teacher and encourages you to participate in class. He truely wants you to do well, always willing to help and is very cool about extensions. I thought the class was a very good class.

He's a beautiful, intelligent, witty, and wonderful man. Take as many english classes as you possibly can, you will never regret it. You learn just as much from the class discussion as you do from him. Every class is a new experience.

Add me to the list of people who would do him for intellectual reasons. Brilliant, witty, etc. A bit of a harsh grader, but your writing and analytical abilities will improve in his class.

Although he is scary the first day, he is really one of the nicest guys. If he sees you make an effort, he will help you understand everything and youll leave every class feeling smarter. He loves to teach and it really shows...Ive had him 4 times now and i would take him again if i could

I feel smarter by proximity. His classes are challenging, but I leave every one entertained and enlightened in some way. He gives you the grade you earn, though, so if you go to class, do the reading, and ask him for help if you need it (He really does want you to learn!), you'll be fine. I look forward to taking more classes with him. Great prof!

simply put... the best prof ive ever had. he's fun in class and although sometimes class material can be confusing he's the most helpful teacher ive ever had. He's the reason i'm picking up a minor in english and i absolutely cannot wait to take another class with him... it doesnt even matter what it is.. if he is the teacher.. i will sign up.

Very nice guy! The best composition professor Bloomsburg has! If you can get into his classes you are lucky. His class is the highlight of my day. I was not a big english person before his class, but he opens your eyes to the text! Strict paper grader, but he is always available to help you on the papers. Take his class! :)

Extremely interested discussions, really makes you dig deep into the works, extremely entertaining, never ever boring. If you are an English major, don't leave without taking him! He's great!

ooomg! he is so freaking cute! He makes you read in to the work to grab a deeper meaning, he does have favorties, he can rip apart your paper but see him before you hand it in. He is a lot of fun to take, and if you haven't experienced him as a prof then you don't know what you've missed out on. I'm going to miss his cute butt!

Amazing! Loved his class. It is a hard class, but in the end it is worth it. Lots of indepth reading (though he doesn't call it "reading between the lines" because it is there on the page you just have to realize it)...Loved his class!

This prof is the greatest! Even if you aren't interested in the subject, he somehow makes it so interesting for the class!! Great sense of humor and overall a really nice guy, just attend class, participate in discussions and study for the tests. He also helps you out a lot with papers. Best prof at Bloom!

Stephen is definitely the best prof I've had at Bloom so far. I guarantee a day won't go by without laughing at least once in his class. He isn't a VERY easy A, but he is definitely reasonable with what is expected. I pulled an A easily in Euro Lit with him and I expect my grade in his Brit Lit class this semester to be a B+ at the lowest.

Dr. Whitworth is awesome. He has very high expectations of his students, but I think it's because he cares and he's serious about you leaving class having learned something. I've taken 3 classes with him, and learned so much and have been challenged a great deal.

Stephen is incredibly intelligent, and cares about the education of his students in a way that you don't see with other profs. He isn't the only English prof to encourage original thought, but he is one of the few. I got an A for the course, but I swear I never worked as hard or with as much satisfaction for any other course at BU. A+ professor.

Stephen, is a very intelligent professor. He explains concepts fully and clearly. Though he claims to be a hard grader, I did not have as much difficulty in his class as I anticipated. He makes learning fun and he's very jovial. I would recommend him to anyone taking an English class at BU.

VERY FUNNY and down to earth teacher. he's very open and pushes his students to succeed in w.e they want. so far in his class his work is easy but its a comp class and i expect to write a lot of papers. i would recommend taking his class

Dr. Stephen Whitworth is BY FAR the BEST professor in an absolutely ABYSMAL department. His classes are very challenging, but, if you so desire, you will learn a lot from him. He will tell you he is not a genius, but I assure you HE IS.

Dr. Whitworth has an amazing affinity for students. He is always willing to help, to listen, to teach. He runs a study group for those of us truly interested in the material on his free time, unpaid. He's incredibly dedicated and you WILL learn something. He specializes in Renaissance literature, psychoanalysis and world religions, to let you know.

He's an okay prof. I would suggest him to anyone unless they are a commuter student because he cancels class all the time without telling you ahead of time.

Professor Whitworth is an amazing professor! He is funny, intelligent, and obviously cares about his students. He teaches exactly what is on the test so that if you study your class notes you are able to do well. I would definitely take another class with him!

He is probably the funniest professor you will ever have. I had him for an 8 AM and he would always make me laugh. He is a great teacher and wants to help you do well. Cancels class from time to time. Overall he is a great professor definitely recommend!

Fantastic professor because he's extremely knowledgeable and you'll learn a lot for sure, but keep him at a distance: he'll tell you you're brilliant, but if you get too close with him he'll use you to buoy his own self-confidence by tearing yours down if necessary. Great as a prof, not so great as a mentor.

ABSOLUTELY TAKE THIS CLASS! I had him for COMP1 freshman year and it made my transition from high school to college SO much easier! He is hilarious, extremely helpful, very nice, and very understanding. I never missed a class & always went to his office hours for extra help! Defiantly an enjoyable A!

A wonderful teacher. A great mentor. He is the most knowledgeable professor in his department---BY FAR. His explanations are clear. His illnesses make him cancel classes quite a bit, though, but it's understandable. If you are lazy, he'll call you out---even if you're close to him. He's not afraid to tell you what he thinks. Also, he's very funny.

Amazing professor. He truly cares about his students and strives to give us the best education possible. He's incredibly smart, funny, and genuine. His classes force you to think and become a better student. It's because of him that I didn't transfer schools.

LOVE HIM You sit there in class and he talks the whole time, you sit there and take notes which if you take notes about everything he says YOU WILL GET AN A. end of story. Lectures are NOT boring!! They are hilarious and he compares literature to real life so you actually understand it. I am taking his 9am and I am not a morning person..

Go in with an open mind and expect to be blown away by the interesting ways you will learn how to dissect and understand British Literature. Class participation hugely impacts grades and tests. Dr. Witworth is an absolutely amazing professor. There are three papers and for each of them he gives you a clear cut outline. Follow the outline and you will get an A. He lets you bring him the papers to review before you turn them in, use that time to let him look them over! He really cares about you and wants you to do well. Would def take again

He gives in depth feed back on all assignments, and allows some revision. He truly cares about his students and their success. If it were possible, I would take him for every single class.

We wrote 2 papers and he allowed us to turn in rough drafts and gave extremely helpful feedback.
