I loved his class - Intro to Liturature. YES very hard - you had to study - lots. But it was worth it cause then you'd understand what he was talking about. Taught me how to look behind the words. Very funny and cute too.
this teacher is a pain in the @ss. he seemed like a cool teacher untill i got my first essay back. it looked like it had been dipped in red paint!!!! eventually he just wrote "I give up" on the paper and stoped correcting it.

He's tough. You think that maybe he'll ease up after the first week n that he's just trying to weed out the slackers. but he doesnt change. started out w/ nearly 30 people in the class. and on the last day of school there were 6. I think that says it all.
Most difficult teacher at Palomar, I stuck it out, and didn't feel that I learned as much as I did in Eng 203. Avoid if possible.
A witty professor if you are awake enough to catch the puns. Very strenuous course, but WELL worth the experience to learn in an exacting environment. Weeds a lot of students out though.
Very hard class but I learned a lot. He grades hard only on mechanics and if you can figure out the pattern, you will get a good grade. I think I improved 3 letter grades from my first to last essay, so it was well worth it.

Took his class at Grossmont. Almost everyone dropped. His puns are not funny and he ended up insulting my mother. I am now filing complaints and grievences against him with the school and the teachers union. He may not teach much longer.

He's a genius when it comes to smug remakrs when tearing apart essays and he knows a LOT of information. He's a great teacher in the fact that you'll learn, but he eats your work to shreds. Harshest. Grader. Ever.

This teacher gives a monolog he thinks is witty. This includes references to whips, chains sado- machism and beastiality with horses in Mexico. Very offensive and should not be teaching.

I analyze poems/short stories better now, but I got a C and that's considered a good grade in his class. My class started with 25 students and ended up with 7 (not all of us passed) You'll become his permanent slave if you take this class. AVOID!!!!!!!!!

I'm apparently in the minority when I say that I thought he was a good teacher. He was interesting and my understanding of literature increased greatly. He even got me to like Cummings! Granted he did grade his papers really hard but he's still good.
This is the craziest teacher i have ever seen. He makes it near impossible to pass his class. My class all dropped leaving him with 3 students. He doesn't seem to get the hint. Really would NOT recoment this guy.

He is the worst teacher I ever had. I've always got straight A's in English. One paper, I had a family member who has a Masters Degree in English go over my paper. We went through two revision stages and when I got a D-. If he's the only professor left, wait a semester.

He's a nice guy, until it gets to grading. The quizzes aren't too bad as long you read the material, but he's really meticulous about grammar in the essays; he'll always find something wrong with them. If you want a few laughs and a not-so-good grade, take his class. If not, ditch it.
This guy is terrible. I enrolled in a 8a.m. summer class, he'd lecture for 45 minutes (should be 3 hrs) and then fail everyone on the quizes. When I asked him how we were supposed to do well when he didn't lecture , he said I needed to go to his office hours. He's a real jerk.
Don't take this class! This class is impossible! He is completely unhelpful, ignores students questions, and is an increadibly hard grader. He also makes you guess what topic your papers will be on and refuses to give guidlines.

All he does is criticize. He only gives you a couple of examples of "good" papers. You don't learn anything, and he makes no effort to teach. The perfect example of why we should do away with the tenure system.
English is hard, but this teacher is ridiculous. He's exstremely sarcastic. The man knows his english, but that does not mean he's a good teacher. Make five mistakes on a paper, and you get an F on that paper. I'm sure he'd give me an F on this review for missed puncturation or bad spelling.
Let's put it this way. I'm retaking ENG 100 now with a different professor, and I'm getting an A so far. Wozniak is smart, but doesn't know how to teach. There is no room for failure in his class. He doesn't give you much of a chance to improve. He has very high standards. He's also hard to follow.

Although Wozniak is undeniably difficult, uses an inexorable amount of red ink, and even smirks while returning his students' bloodied essays, if you can pass this class, then you can surely pass every other English class that you ever attempt. This guy was the biggest jerk I have ever met at any school. However his humor was somewhat entertaining. I pray this man gets fired, but I was informed that he has a five year contract, so even though the rest of the staff and faculty hate his guts, they can't get rid of him.

I read a little ways down, and saw that somebody said he has never given an A. This is not true. The only person who has gotten an A in his class is his son. People, switch over to Voth! He is a much much better teacher.

Wow. What nasty vituperative! Too bad it's mostly true. I enjoyed his classes, however, because I enjoy a challenge. Woz is a true sadist, but you come out the other side tempered and able to write anything for any class at any level, with confidence. Like hitting your thumb with a hammer; it feels SO good when you stop!

worst teacher ive ever had in my entire life, i love english, did honors in high school, and i got a D in his class, rants about the world all day and is overly critical of everything, hates metaphors, and is too literal. worst teacher ever, nobody got above a C. this man is the bane of my existence!!!! :(
Eng is one of my strongest subject, but he dissects your essays for errors. I showed the corrections he made to other English profs & majors & they laughed & told me he actually made up grammar rules just to deduct points. However, I did analyze poems much better after his class and managed the only C out of 9 survivors, all of them got D's & F's.
Very difficult. He wasn't clear about what he wanted in the class and so he was very difficult to write for.... each class and quiz felt like a david and goliath battle except without the sling and stones and blind folded.... in the end grades don't matter the only question is if you passed... cross your fingers.

wozniak is pretty tough, but you will learn in his class. he chooses great literature for the readings. this class has a pretty steady work load, but if you read the material and are a decent writer, than you will be fine. he can be pretty witty and is fair and well-informed.
This professor almost ruined my enjoyment of english. He graded extremely hard and didn't explain why or how to fix it very well. If you want any kind of decent grade, do NOT take him.

He is VERY critical. He doesnt accept waitlisters because he doesnt want to read more essays than he has to. Our class started with 25 people and ended with only 6. Theres no book - we analyze a pack of essays. His final exam essay topics were ridiculous: "Why beetles, not dogs, are man's best friends" & "how Satan was God's greatest creation"

I read all the comments on here from past students in Wozniak and still thought I could handle him. I was completely WRONG!!! If you don't think like him, don't plan on getting a good grade in the class. He is completely bias and nit-picks every little thing wrong (or not how he likes it) about your papers. GET OUT!!!
I don't know why prof Wozniak gets such bad reviews. Yes his class is challenging, but this is not high school people. I find him to be very insightful as well as eclectic. If you listen in class and don't expect to just pass for having a pulse you can succeed in this class.He gives lots of extra credit also if you participate.
I now have a degree in English and after all those English classes, his class was the one I received a "C" in. I've literally gotten an "A" in every other English class that I've taken other than his. What does that tell you about this teacher? And I think the only reason I got a C was because I forced myself to laugh at his jokes.
If you want to skate through college and life, then do not take this teacher. He doesn't deserve you. He is tough, but funny and fair. You will learn to write fluently and eloquently under his tutelage and will be well-prepared for university writing as well as any writing your career may require. My best professor, and I hold 3 UC degrees.

Wozniak is a very finicky teacher; he is very intense in his grading when it comes to quizzes and essays. However, he is very detailed in his lectures, very fair, and is willing to help you. Despite this, I honestly wouldn't recommend him unless you're ready for an INTENSE English class.
I don't think anyone should make their mind up about this man before they meet him. I persoanally never got a hang of his writing style. I think grading essays are tricky for teachers because they're aware of the bias,however, wozniak seems to have no qualms about beeing bias. The only thing I learned was patience, and you'll need a lot of that.

Wozniak is an awesome teacher. I actually am an English major, and I got a B in his class. I found his class very entertaining and enlightening. If I could I would take another class from him for fun. Sure, he makes odd jokes, but they help break up the class period. Get over yourselves and learn something.
i used to be an AP student and this class was fifty times harder than any class i had taken prior... everybody gets super F's on their quizzes and if your smart you can get a C on the multiple papers. I had to drop this class because it proved to be impossible to pass with an A, which I need in order to go to Berkley. I would not recommend.
He uses a lot of sarcasm that I think got in the way of his teaching. When he was giving out instuctions for homework I didn't know if he was tell a joke or he was for real. He also talks super fast.
Very difficult teacher, but for all who say his quizzes are difficult, all you have to do is read the material. There are few questions that are not obvious. Also he will give extra credit for wrong answers that he thinks are witty. Just put some effort in and you can succeed in his course, he equips students with an actual college-like experience!
Really bad teacher. Honestly, i haven't learned a think, other than to cater to his liking so that you might not fail the quizzes. Don't take unless you know everything about English and have nothing to learn. He hasn't 'taught' anything yet and I'm two months into this class.
I read the material but I fail every quiz i cant take it these quizzes are incredibly he picks out the smallest miniscule details and you have to remember them and if your essays good forget about it you will still get marked down for grammar. would not recommend taking

Wozniak is the crappiest teacher i have ever had. He does not explain anything and i sat through his class for 2.5 months and did not learn anything! and he gives crappy grades even when he does not explain why.

I dropped his class with a W a few years ago prefering this grade over an assured F. I still come back to read the comments posted on him and am happy to reinforce my thoughts on this pretentious, egotistical, absolute terror of a person. Wozniak is a great teacher in my opinion, I would recommend this class to anyone who's going to major in English. You just absolutely need to make sure you have strong English roots! He puts an emphasis on technicality! Unfortunately If you can't afford to take the high risk of getting a C in his class, I wouldn't recommend this course.
I wish i read these comments before i took him. We started out with 30 kids over filling the class, by the 4th week, there were 10 kids in the class all with D's. My boss who is 15 years older than me had him and got a D! Just DON'T!
He is a freakin NUT! He is so confusing and also really rude! No help at all; when you ask for help he just makes it more confusing or makes fun of you for not knowing. I am in the minority of college students who did not want to skate through an English class that just reiterated everything I've learned since 6th grade, which, by the way, is the reason why a lot of you claim to have always gotten A's in English until Wozniak. He introduces new and challenging concepts, something I appreciated.

I have to say that I have learned quite a lot from his class, but I am starting to get frustrated. I've been working hard to get an A in his class, but I've found out that it is probably impossible. He's an ass, completely arrogant, teaches nothing, and grades everything. There's a quiz in nearly every class (of which you are given little prep for). If you want a good teacher, he's definitely NOT it. AND his quizzes are practically impossible to pass and there are TONS of them.
I personally have enjoyed attending his class, however the homework load has prevented me from doing well in my other classes. Read the material, and you'll pass every quiz. His essay grading is another story - I'm an English major and I feel like an absolute idiot turning essays in to him. If you're a slacker, do NOT take this class.
this is a difficult class to get an A in. The teacher is really funny and willing to talk in his office, so suck it up and ask a lot of questions. Just make sure you know what your asking for....his opinion! By the way if you notice the poeple making the angry comments tend to write very poorly.
Wozniak's class is extremely difficult but not impossible to pass. He assigns a lot of challenging homework. Do NOT take this class if you want an easy A or are not willing to devote more than two hours a week to homework and reading assignments. He is very sarcastic, but rather funny and is willing to help if you ask appropriate questions.
HORRIBLE prof & person! Hatefully of everyone & everything. A bigoted & pitiful person that hates his students & having to teach them. Harshest grader I've ever seen & will stop reading your ppr after 1st pg, if it sucks, which will always happen! Retook class w/diff prof & got a B with same writing! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! Was fun in his dry humor but the work load was longwinded and often difficult He was clear in his assignments and due dates but you'd have to be a pro student to get a B in his class Talking helps, he is approachable and sometimes he hands out xtra credit if you know thngs that are beyond the clss He focuses on motifs frm chrstianty in lit GoodLuck
Has very dry humor. He is very hard and not helpful. I wouldnt take this class if you want to pass. Our class started full and ended up with about 5 people. Mostly everyone got a D. Do not take!
This guy is a pretentious, insufferable, fart-sniffer who thinks he's an English god. People who "like him" still end up getting lousy grades with a false pretense of taking a "challenging" class. His classes aren't intellectually superior, just unduly painful. Wozniak does this on purpose so kids drop and he doesn't have a full class! He's LAZY!
Not a good teacher, very hard on students, it is a difficult class any way and he make's it worse. He thinks he is God and D's and C's are the only grades for the poor students. Do not take that class with this teacher

Im one of the Lucky few that skated out with a C in the class. Class started with 35 and ended with 6 for a reason. DONT take his class, its not a challenge, its impossible. Hes just a big butt pirate. He will ALWAYS find something wrong with your paper and give you a D on it. Beware
TERRIBLE teacher. Nothing makes sense and he will NOT help you. He is also very, very offensive.
Professor W. is easily the WORST teacher I have ever had! If you are looking to do all of your work and get an A think again! Or in his words, "I remember giving an A one time, does it matter that it was to my son? probably!" Never take this teacher! He simply thinks he created english as the world knows it and is also VERY offensive in class!

This teacher was so HORRIBLE that I dropped with a W. As the weeks passed our class got smaller and smaller and the highest grade [when I left] was a C. He expects you to know information but doesn't teach you! "Quiz" more like tests given every week. Impossible to pass! STAY AWAY FROM THIS TEACHER! He should be forced to retire, or better, FIRED!!
In all honesty he is a tough prof. If you have the confidence that you can analyze like a Harvard grad then by all means go right ahead. This class is definitly not for the cockey. Your pride will be shattered.
I can owe all stress and lack of success last semester to prof. wozniak. I had excellent essays which he rudely broke apart and made me think i was unable to write. He is a nice fellow, but has horrible teaching ethics. Twenty students dropped from the class and i don't blame them. Don't take this class, trust me, you will regret it
DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASS. HIS CLASS WAS BORING AND WITH NO HELP FROM HIM. SO IF YOU DECIDE TO TAKE OR ACCIDENTALLY TAKE HIS CLASS, THEN GOOOD LUCK....HE IS A REALLY CRAPPY TEACHER.
Avoid this teacher, especially if you are sensitive to dry humor. I thought he was funny but it wasn't worth the quizzes that you are lucky to get a "C" on...also grades extremely hard on essays. Evidence: To start my semester there was well over 30 students, now there is 11 and I regret staying myself.
Don't take this teacher unless you like having red pen scribbled all over almost every line of your essays and C's or D's on quizzes, despite how well you think you did or how hard you tried on the work. His dry humor is rude sometimes, specifically when you ask him a question.
WORST teacher I've ever had!!! He is extremely difficult and does not teach at all! Gives about 3 essays to read and take a test on for the next class every day. Thinks everyone should know how to do everything and marks down when you don't, but then doesnt teach you how to do it right. 48 students at beginning now there's 8.
One of the few memorable professors of my time there. He required us to write well. He improved my writing ability to a legit college level. And don't be upset to learn that you write poorly, because there is a good chance that you DO write poorly. So many new high school grads write terribly. He will make you better. That's why you're there.
It was very difficult to get good scores, but when I did the hard work was definitely worth it. He's helpful if you want to be helped, and always offers to go over essays before they're due. It won't be easy, but you'll learn a lot.
This class killed me. Wozniak is an intelligent man, and I learned what makes an essay decent, but his English 100 class is extreamly hard and the homework load is unrelenting. Also, his quizzes are ridiculous. Once he asked for the correct spelling of 'methamphetamine'. I recommend finding another english teacher if you can. I failed.
DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE A HUGE WORK LOAD! I dropped him the first week i was in the class.
If you don't like writing then you shouldn't take him. He's very strict on essays, red ink is what you'll most likely see on them. And if you fail an essay you don't get the chance to rewrite it. His quizzes aren't normal. He asks the most weirdest questions on those quizzes.
He's a great teacher if you want to become a great writer. If you want to get an A in english 100 i suggest you power through his class and take english again with another teacher and you'll get an A++. Also the man is obviously extremely intelligent and he's witty and funny as hell
Mr. Wozniak is a very sarcastic, uncompromising teacher. He expects a lot out of every student and especially grades essays like a madman. Anyone who wants a hardcore English teacher, take this guy. Otherwise, DONT TAKE HIM! More than half our class was gone halfway through the semester. :(
If this was my ONLY class during FALL then maybe it would be tolerable.(I took him over this Summer and dropped the class before it showed on my transcripts)He is very very difficult to keep up with, he is fast and unclear. Lots of students dropped the class right away. The Professor is great at what he does he just isn't very pro-student.
He is a OK professor. I took ENG 100 over the summer as a high school student, he is somewhat clear, and is a hard grader. If you want to really learn English this guy is for you. But it is way to hard for course so I urge you to go to another.
We have four hours of lecture time a week and he only spends 50 minutes actually lecturing on his worthless packet with no educational value to it! The other three hours he gives us quizzes on stuff he does not teach and expects us to know! AVOID AT ALL COSTS DON'T WASTE A SEMESTER WITH THIS PROFESSOR
I did learn a fair amount in his class, but he is the hardest grader I've ever encountered...ever. He even admitted that he has not given out a SINGLE A for a course grade to ANY student in the last 5 years. I was one of only two "B's" in my class. In the beginning, there were about 40 students. Only 7 of us remained by the end of the semester.
Doesn't teach you a thing, just gives every student a packet full of about 30 bad essays and you correct them and have a quiz on them daily.
Wozniak is a very intelligent man and a great teacher. Do not take this class if you are expecting an easy A. The work load is tough, but well worth it I have learned so much in his class. He has always been helpful, concise, and conscientious(he hands out packets at the beginning of the term to save students money on textbooks)
This is not a class for someone looking to get an easy A. Wozniak was a tough grader and a very inconsistent one. I love English. This was very disappointing.
All of my classes in high school were honors, and I've never received a grade lower than an "A", especially in my favorite subject (English). I tested into his 203 class and started the semester with 40 kids. By the end, there were 7 kids left. I got a C in this class.
Wozniak can be challenging to follow. This may prove difficult for some students. He is also very demanding and grades precisely, which is also unpopular with many students. I enjoy the challenge of his class. He forces you to pay attention and apply yourself. If you're in school to actually learn, consider Wozniak.
As a busy homeschooler with jobs in the voiceover industry and teaching English as a Foreign language, I had not written a single essay since middle school before taking Wozniak's class between my Junior and Senior year of High School. The fact that by the end of 6 weeks I loved literature and writing, speaks. He taught me to think. Thank you sir!
He is very intelligent and does know his information, but he does have a superiority complex. You WILL feel like nothing is good enough. His work load is almost insufferable, and my other classes suffered from it. Quizzes every week, and essays due every three weeks. I learned from his class, but I'm going to retake it without him being my prof.
Great writing instructor. Took two sections of composition with him before transferring to UCLA, where I won the undergraduate essay competition using style tips from his class. Take him if you're interested in developing as a collegiate writer. Not for the slacker crowd.
Very eloquent, fair grader, and great lecturer. Participation was important, but that's expected for a class that's heavily based on discussion. The assigned readings weren't entirely difficult, but you can get behind if you miss more than two classes at a time. I had him during the time of the brushfires, and he was very understanding.
Nice to see he is still teaching after 30 years since i took his class. He was an excellent insteuctor.
I really love taking this Professor! At the beginning he was a tough grader but he teaches you how to become better at your writing. He gives you In-class essays and essay homework! He has a very mellow voice which relaxes you. Be prepare to do your best! It makes it easier for him and you.
He has been one of the best English professors I have had the pleasure of working with. The class is full of interesting discussions that kept me well engrossed in the material. The feedback on essays were so helpful. He is very clear and to the point. I highly recommend that you take his class.
I am 56 years old. I took his English comp class 35 years ago. Hands down, my favorite professor of all time. He literally taught me how to write. It has served me well for my entire career. One of the funniest people I have ever met. I highly recommend you take his course. Well worth it. Greg Crawley
