doesn't think too highly of anyone who is not a math teacher or math major.

This guy made me want to give up on math forever. Choose somebody else.
the worst experience i have ever been forced to endure.

Not a nice guy, hard class.
he was a good teacher even though the material was hard, answered questions throughly and completley, didn't throw a lot of tricks on the tests. A lot of people in the class didn't like him, but i thought he was a good teacher
He's arrogant and overly difficult about the material. Doesn't help you, he embarrases you until you don't want to ask him any questions.
Awesome math teacher. You will be challenged in his class. Lots of homework and tough tests, nothing you won't be able to handle though. Very helpful and spends class time on homework questions.
He was really hard and all the tests were really confusing. I studied my hardest all through the class and ended up failing the class
Don't take his class for any reason at all, including delaying your graduation - he is another one of the resons OU math is notorious for it's poor math department.
has a bad **** flare
Awesome teacher. I will definitely take him again.
As a person who took his class only as a refesure, I was VERY disappointed. He doesn't care about his students, and does NOT give extra help. don't take his class. Take it from Chapman instead.
Real jerk. Tries to threaten people. Very rude and arrogant. Tries to make you look dumb. Hard to follow his class. He just assumes everyone is as smart as he is.
One of the best MTH profs ive had. He really hates teaching lower level math. Take him for calc 2 and above, but no lower!
Worst math teacher ever. He actually spends a lot of time telling you that you should know it, rather than just teaching it. Do not take his class...ever.
He was the worst teacher I have ever had. People had to correct what he was doing on the board all the time. He would carry on with rediculas stories. He also would say he didn't have time to go over examples. I found him irratating, unhelpful, and creepy
Worst math teacher I have ever had. He would always go on and on about nothing and waste 1/2 of the class time. He once said he gets confused a lot when doing algebra. Good thing he teaches it!he doesn't explain problems, he just does them on the board.
This teacher should not be teaching this class. He spends most of the class time telling students they should already know the material. He is rude and degrading in class and does not show willingness to be available to students outside of class.
Repeatedly says we already know the material, then the material that he says we shouldn't know is the actual review stuff. Exams don't correlate to the material the homework is on. Definitely a hard course to pass.
Good teacher, but his exams are very hard
I had him for precalc and EVERY post that disses him is EXACTLY TRUE. Had I not already taken precalc in HS I would be lost. Thank goodness for the easy HW and quiz points because the exams are ridiculous. Always have to correct him, always says "you should know this", overall not good TEACHER.
He is very dramatic while he's teaching and he doesn't consider any thing that might affect the students' grade and he's very stubborn about his grading.
have someone in class throw up during an exam and you get ten points added onto your exam.
This prof just sucks!!! His homework is tough, his assistants cant speak a word of english! seriously! His tests are tough, and his marking is not just nor fair. On one test, I had 65 and asked to recheck, he gave me a extra one point for teh whole freakin exam! I suggset you not take any clas ofhis
This guy needs to be fired.
Clarity? Think again, this fool talks more about growing up in Kentucky than teaching math. Common Wright phrases will make you insane such as: "You better know this prerequisite material or you're dead." This man needs to be fired. Doesn't care about anything. I recieved a 2.6.
He's HILARIOUS! You better know your prereqs. But besides that he is very straight up and very easy to laugh at. If you do your homework you should be fine, but make sure you do it and go to labs when the quizzes are!
Well let's see, if you would like to start off your college career failing, then you should definetly take this class. He is by far one of the worst profs. And almost everyone that takes him as a prof. fails. Crap Crap Crap Crap Crap
This is by far the worst class ever to start off your college career. He follows the WDF format...get a W,get a D, or get an F. those are your only choices in this class. Do whatever you can to get out of this class!!!
I thought he was a great prof and people should stop blaming the fact that they hate math on the professor. I would most definitely take a class from him again.
Takes up more time telling us what we should already know than actually teaching. The students have to correct him on addition and subtraction, how can he teach precalc if he doesn't know 1st grade math?
I got a 4 in his class thanks only to the workshop MTH 142...I really recommend this! Wright didnt help me @ all He teaches right from the book wastes time with soapbox speaches that have nothing to do with math and often got confused lecturing Take him if you have to but dont bother going to class
First of all, let me start by saying I got a 3.9 in this class and have a >3.9 overall GPA...so don't think I'm bashing him for getting a bad grade. This guy is a complete joke of an educator. If I had problems, I got them figured out in the recitation classes that were led by T.A.s. His soapbox speeches made me nauseated!
Amazing Professor. Definitely knows his stuff and enjoys "preaching". I would recommend only if you really want to know calc II forwards and backwards, because when he is done with you you won't be able to forget it.
Good teacher, knows what hes doing for the most part. If you dont have the prereqs for the class then dont take it. He lectures right out of the book so if you need clarification ask him/look in the book. Not that difficult of a class.
i took the same class in high school and got an A-. With him i was getting a D or F. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Professor Wright is NOT a bad professor. He's kind of goofy so the class isn't all boring. He's your typical math professor; he teaches on the board and gives you examples. There is quite a lot of math homework, BUT you have enough time to get it all done, AND you have Recitation sections where the leaders will help you with whatever Q you have
This guy is seriously not cool. Take Prof. Chang instead.
TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. I cant tell you enough do NOT take his class under any circumstances go to the community college if you have to, to avoid him. He teaches like a southern babtist minister and constantly reminding the class they will fail if they "cant do this" or "that". And he gets in your face while lecturing very annoying. DO NOT TAKE
He is sooo picky when grading and will tell u to study for one thing while the test is exactly opposite...DO NOT TAKE
WHAT A WEIRDO!If you really don't want a random guy getting in ur face & talking about stupid stuff, don't sit on the corner seats. He really wastes the class time being all "dramatic".His main focus is definately not on teaching the class the necessary material. He seems to rely on the recitation teachers to teach the material. He wastes class time.
absolutely rediculous! Horrible! I heard the horror stories about oaklands math department but figured that if you study the material how bad can it be, right? WRONG!!!! This man is a joke and has absolutely no place in front of a class...except as a target!
this professor sucks.
This professor is so difficult! His teaching style is impossible to follow. If it weren't for the recitation I would have never passed.- Go to ALL the recitations and ask the T.A. a lot of questions during that time because you will be way to intimidated to ask them in lecture. The exams do not reflect the homework or the sample ?'s at all either.
Avoid this professor at all costs.
Worst teacher i have ever had, he could care less how you are doing in the class. he cant teach at all. go to recitations if forced to take him. dont sit on aisle seat he seems to get 6 inces from their face and yell at you. it seems as though he gets pleasure out of failing his students. He was not well liked as a student and is out for revenge.
Took Linear Algebra / Diff. Eq. with prof. Wright this spring. 2 tests, 1 final. Thats all that was graded. Tests included multiple proofs and "Tricky" questions. He delights in creating problems that test your knowledge of subject material... once you decipher his riddle that is. I reviewed from another prof's tests; too bad I had Wright-STAY AWAY
DO NOT TAKE! I'm pre-pharmacy and I got an A (4.0 w/e) in Calc 1, and somehow I feel LOST in this class! Instead of beginning with simple problems and then working up to more complex problems, he just throws them at you and expects you to know what he's doing (even tho half of the time, he confuses himself)! He is also pretty odd!
I took his PreCalc class begining of last year(as a freshmen)and I started thinking College was way 2 hard for 4 me because of his Dumb@$$.The way Wright explained his stuff on the board was"THIS GUY HERE AND THIS OTHER GUY HERE ARE EQUAL TO THIS GUY HERE"-wtf..I slaped myself 4 taking him-Ended dropping the class. 1st time i post & its just for him
Very tough grader. Attendance is not rewarded in any way. teaching methods contradict book. frequently makes errors on in-class problems. skips around too much with homework. tests are very difficult. take this class with a different professor or you'll regret it for sure.
Tough teacher. Make sure you take the class with a recitation. It helps immensely. He is loud, funny, and a math nerd but he puts way to many "challenging" problems on the tests. Do the homework many times to make sure you get it.
DO NOT TAKE! I got an A in Calc I, but failed his class! Your grade = daily homework, 3 exams and a final. His "reviews" were almost pointless. No curves. Take another prof that actually knows how to teach!
Stab yourself now if you're even thinking about taking this guy. He doesn't give a crap about anyone. 3 exams -- all of which he'll take the hardest possible problems ever created from the section, and throw em on there -- but only teaches easy problems. Expects you to know everything there is to know about math.. and has a creepy southern accent.
what a joke....
Worst teacher I have ever had. NO, worst person I have ever met. This guys should not be allowed near a class room. He made my life miserable for a semester. If you are thinking about taking this guy drop the class before you get in. Trust me I had a 3.9 going into this class and I got a 2.0 in the class. I was just tru=ying to get credit.
I find him incredibly "cotton-pickin' " pompous. He treats you as if you should remember every detail of Trig, algebra, geometry, etc without review or doubt. Half way through the semster he has made no mention of curving even though most students are doing poorly from what I can hear. I have never done poorly ina math class prior to this one.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! One day after I got my test back, I saw him in his office and wanted to ask him a question about why i got a question wrong. He said that i had to come back during his office hours. Even though he was sitting at his desk!!! He said he couldn't help me because he was working on an "important math problem" WHAT A JOKE!
This professor has a southern accent and says funny things almost daily. Now for the math part, he was pretty good. He expects everyone to remember high school algebra and trig. He did plenty of examples from the book and thoroughly explained them. His exams weren't bad, he often put the easier problems on them. Class wasn't bad. Id take him again.
not as bad as everyone says but still in semester and first test wasnt bad at all not the best teacher but he does a sufficient job of doing so. the southern accent is kinda funny and you should hear him laugh, i got a 2.8 in calc 2 so i am not exactly a genius but i think ill get somewhere 3.0 and up in this class
Taking him for this class was the most unfortunate decision I have ever made. Tests aren't the hardest but good luck finishing them within the time limit because they're absurdly long. He's useless at answering questions; I once went to try to ask him something (like a 15 second question..) after class and he told me to come see him in his office
This was a really difficult class. Entire grade based on 3 exams and a final. A lot of homework is assigned, but not not graded. He's a good teacher, but it's a really hard subject and if you don't take the time to do the homework you won't pass...believe me.
This guy is horrible. Worst professor ever. had to withdrawl from the class. class average on exams in the 40's. roughly 20 other students dropped also. do NOT take him. exam are impossible
Considering I've passed graduate level classes on this material with 4.0's, I would think getting a 2.0 in this class makes my point pretty clear. Teacher's lectures are ok, exams are impossible (Based on available time and average difficulty for level 100 and 200 classes); I don't care who you are, your GPA wont recover after taking this prof.
Lectures were informative, and homework questions were at a fair difficulty. Though, probably not the prof for you if you're looking to skate through a class without putting forth any effort. However, I don't think he expects anything unreasonable from his students.
Managed to 'teach' calc 3 without including any real world application problems, failed to cover a large chunk of material. Tests are easier than similar exams at other universities, but for what's taught in class, it's not at all surprising the class average was always <65%. Does not curve, very strict grader, very nearly no partial credit awarded
I'll be completely honest, I passed but didn't do great and it was in no way his fault. I earned what I got. If you take the subject for what it is he is a really good prof. His expectations are more than fair, tests are long but completely based on in class examples and homework from the book. You could do a lot worse with math professors at OU.
Strict grader. Doesn't give real-world applications. The tests were much harder than the homework assigned. for MTH 154 you have to know all these trig and algebra formulas that he expects you to know. This is probably easier for engineering majors, but I'm not.
This class was so difficult. I took it before in high school and it came easily to me. But this guy confused me with his different techniques. The whole semester grade is on three tests and the final. And the tests are impossible with 10 and 15 point problems. I hated this class. Ruined my GPA.
Lectures confused me. Skipped through so many steps. Taught myself from the book and understood it much better. 3 tests, one per chapter, and a final. His grading system on the exams did not make any sense. and did not explain how he graded it either. Barley passed this class and i thought I was very good in math
3 in class exams and 1 Final. The only things you do for credit. No practice exams. He assigns homework every day but it's never graded, so you never really know how well you are understanding the material.
Harsh grading, no curves, monotonous speech patterns, and incessant mistakes on his part during lecture are to be expected. His behavior is quirky at best, and his expectations for exams are astronomical. Help can be easily sought but is superfluous. I would not recommend him for any class whatsoever.
STAY AWAY. Go search "databook" on the school website and review his % for passing students. More than half failed and no one at or above 3.0. You will fail.
This class was stressful! Prof Wright is rude and is not easy to ask questions to. Out of my class alone only 4/20 students passed his class and I got the highest grade which was below a 3.0. Some students didn't even take the final because even if they got 100% they would still have failed the class.
Throughout the class he tries his best to make the students like calculus even if it means not focusing on the lectures. He will waste sometimes 10 minutes talking about how much calculus helps us. The problem is not everyone likes calculus as a subject. Stay away from his classes or you will have a challenging time learning.
Worst professor I had in my 2 years at OU. Only class I received below a 3.0 in and I got a 1.1 in this class. He clearly loves calculus but is not the best at teaching it and his exams are beyond difficult. Avoid at all costs.
Failed Diff EQ last term and had to take again. Shoulda been a cake walk. But not with him. his tests are insane. I showed them to a different 255 student,he had no idea how to do half of them. plus he has too many questions: 8 multi-part questions where others have 6 with multiple choice in them. Avoid him at all costs if you value your sanity!
Makes no sense when teaching. Very scattered and confusing. Could never follow his lectures. I used to love math, but I hate it now. He ruined my GPA. More than half the class dropped out of it. Tests are extremely hard. DO NOT TAKE!
(Geometric structures) Most difficult class I've ever taken in terms of grading and content together. Grading is extremely harshunfair - he rarely ever gives anyone above a 3.0. Lectures are often boring and his notes on the board are completely scattered. Can answer questions well in class usually, but by grading alone, I would not recommend him.
Professor Wright is a tough professor; however, he is very clear while speaking. If you pay attention in class and ask questions you are likely to pass. This class does require effort on your part, but the effort does pay off in the end. If you respect the importance of Calculus you will do very well studying it with professor Wright.
Do yourself a favor and don't take him. All the comments about him are true.
Terrible. In a class of 60 about 20 kids show up for each class.
Not a bad teacher, just pay attention and do the homework (which you don't have to turn in). only 3 tests and the final are graded so if you go to class or you're just a math ace then you'll be fine. this class is basically pre-cal from high school so if you did well in there you'll do well in here
He teaches the whole class at the same level, which is more advanced than the average. If you ask a question, he doesn't change his answer, he just repeats the same confusing thing. Not helpful for office hours. I lived at the tutoring center. Don't take him. There are many other professors who do a better job than he does.
His tests are handwritten, worth multiple points and there's no room for error. Went to tutoring with him, he works out the problem himself, and you have to ask him to let you work it out. He assigns a web tool that work out the problem all the way, in class he stops about 3/4 of the way and goes too fast. Failed this class.
Class grade for MTH 121 is completely dependent on four exam grades. There is no homework and there are no quizzes.
Watch out, if you can try to take precalc with an easier professor. He grades you as if you are a graduate student who wants to pursue math for a living. All exams are written, some essay type.
Awful. Entire course based on 3 exams. Hand written. Too hard. No leeway given. Horrible lecturer.
worst professor i have ever had. all he does is lecture and lecture. he has no personality whatsoever and honestly is horrible at explaining anything. i would consider myself fairly good at math but i failed his class. no study guides given or anything. your grade is based off 3 tests and the final. would not recommend, take it with someone else!!!
Overcomplicates lectures by flooding the board with proofs, only to get to a simple formula or solution. Doesn't actually explain what things are during lecture. Grades depend on 3 exams and a final which are toughly graded and have questions much harder than the homework he doesn't give grades for.
I'll be up front, Dr. Wright is a difficult professor. He wants you to work hard for your grade, and here is absolutely no room in his class for apathy and laziness. He gets a bad wrap for being difficult, but in reality he is a very good, passionate maths professor. I would absolutely recommend him, especially for a Number Theory class.
Grades as if math is the only thing that you could be doing with your time. Heavy studying in this class will lead you to a 3 at best. Regardless of how bad the class is going, he will continue chugging on. When I completed the class, everyone but 3 students had dropped
Not a helpful teacher. Overcomplicates problems instead of taking the easier or more understandable approach to a problem. Very hard to follow along unless you can look at the board for 2 hrs nonstop. Lectures and hw are little to no help. No extra credit whatsoever. If you are dual enrolling, do NOT take this class with him. You've been warned.
Do not take this professor!! He teaches the most over complicated examples in lectures, skips half the steps that he deems "simple high school algebra" or "freshman calculus", and then says that nothing that difficult will you be tested on. The homework is optional but suggested, plan to learn on your own since his exams cover more than he teaches.
You must do the homework to do well on tests. 3 tests and a final make up your grade. Gets sidetracked occasionally, classes are usually pretty dull. Tests are during the first half of class, followed by notes for the next section. For review, it is up to students to ask questions, otherwise the review session will end very early.
His class has a lot of proofs and not enough examples. The examples are straight from the book, so it's not really worth going. Grades are made up of three exams and a final exam. Exams are an hour long for about six pages, and they are handwritten so it can be hard to read in the time. I do not recommend taking him.
Lectures are extremely boring and pretty useless. I find myself not learning a single thing in class and going home and teaching myself from the book. Tests are very hard and have only a few questions that are each worth a ton of points. There are only three exams and the final and that's your entire grade (plus some small quizzes). Avoid taking.
Stay away from this professor!! I like to think I am good at math and now I am contemplating dropping this course in fear of failing it. Lectures are hard to follow and Completely useless for the exam. We even asked him for examples that might appear on the exam and he failed to demonstrate any. But cant expect much from the OU math department.
Professor Wrights lecture does not have any worth. His test do not coexist with the material in the book. Also creares his own tests and uses his own wording for each problem. I hate it here
I have no doubt in my mind Professor Wright is good at what he does, but teaching is definitely not his thing. He will spend the first half of the semester telling you that he doesn't need to explain certain things because it is "Basic high school algebra," let me tell you, it is not basic high school algebra. You need a lot of dedication to pass
DO NOT TAKE a class with Professor Wright!!!! Grade is based solely on prerequisite quiz, 3 exams, and the final. He is a very tough grader, writes his own exams (literally writes them), and doesn't offer any other type of homework or quiz grade. The lectures are pointless because he just reads word for word what he writes on the notes. DON'T TAKE!
