Very HARD teacher. Grades very tough. Class started with approximately 30 people by the time finals came around there were only 7 people left. Very, Very, Very hard teacher.
Shallow superficial thinks he's a real doctor. Does not know anything about the real world. Dresses like he works at Subway. I would bet money if you saw him on the street you would NEVER think he has a PhD.
His expectation for you to understand the material is unmeasurable. But he made it quite clear and if you really listen to him, you'll understand that stuff and it'll stick to yr head. All you need to do is to understand the material by listenning to him. Although he's tough in class but he's really helpful outside class time. See him in his office
Feels teaching at Community College is a punishment and teaches way over your head to prove that he is smarter than you.
Well if you like teachs that read directly from powerpoints you will like him. He seems like a good person but not professor. I found that the older people had much more trouble with his class than the younger.
The worst prof I've ever had. Expects you to grasp this difficult material the first X he says it, then treats you like you're an idiot if you don't. Acts like his is the only class you should spend ALL your time on. If must take Micro, take it at another NHMCCD campus & save yourself the heartache!
the worst professor i've had. He expects you to grasp so much information in a short period of time and just moves on if you don't understand. He doesn't seem like a bad person, just a bad teacher. Reviews were impossible - the final review was the reviews for all chapters consolidated into one Word document.
I think these bad comments are by kids that didn't try. There were too many little girls that were wondering why they did bad.Boo hoo.Quit your crying!READ the book!Always Blaming others instead of doing the work.I am one of those older people that had a "problem" with the class.Yeah right, I made an A in his class. If you want to learn, take him.
was hard but it made my classes this semester much easier
I thought his class was fun. I learned a lot. Loved jeopardy. If you got a bad grade it is because you didn't read the book. You're in college now, folks...it doesn't take a genius to realize that even HIS notes came directly from there. Sometimes the book was more clear than him though...lol. But if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen!
I enjoyed his class. You do have to study and keep up with the reading or you will easily fall behind.
This is the WORST professor that I have had the misfortune to come across. His class is very pressuring and he piles you up with so much work that you barely have time for your other classes. He is very inconsiderate and extremely uncaring.I would not recommend anyone to take his class.
Worse Professor ever. Dont take his class!! He wants his students to fail!!
Very knowlegable professor who clearly knows what he is lectturing about. However, Dr. Anaya goes into so much detail its just to overwhelming for intro to biology. Although it was hard and boring i did pass. Overall if you join biology take Dr. Anaya if not find other professor.
Dr. Anaya gives you too much information. You have study for things that are not on the exam. I agree with the students who said don't take him I should have listened. I think that it is sad that all the money Tomball get from students and they only have one person teaching Micro-Biol. This is unfair to students. We should have more options.
All the bad comments had me afraid, but I didn't have a choice cuz he was the only teach. He's really a nice guy, and very helpful, and very concerned! He wants his students to do well. He helps anyone who asks! His tests are not hard, you just have to know the material. He demands respect, and I don't blame him!You should respect your professors!
Unrealistic expectations for an entry level class. Just told to read the book when needed help. Didn't know that it needed to be the fine print that was going to be test material. If you have other classes or a life head to someone else!
This guy is not as bad as his publicity. He gives you copies of the notes with fill in the blanks, if you ask him he will let you compare your answers to his notes to study for the test. He IS a no nonsense and no excuses kinda guy, but you have to go to class, listen, study hard, and you will get an A. He does gives extra credit assignments.
Just fill in the notes he hands out. He wants you to do a lot of group work and a lot of work on the class website which I was not prepared for since it is not an online class. Since he's the only one teaching it, you don't have much choice. Overall he's good and he's helpful outside of class.
I was also worried when I read about him here. Honestly, those people just didn't study! Of course he's going to give information that's not always on the test! Welcome to college! Seriously, if you come to class and study your notes, its a good class. Plus, he's a nice guy and is always willing to help you out. Don't be afraid! :)
This professor cares. He is a no nonsense intructor and at the same time has a great sense of humor. He gets to know his students. The notes are key to the exams. It is not a good idea to miss class. You are welcome to tape his lectures. You will leave this course knowing everything he has to offer and it will help you in the medical field.
Be prepared to spend as much time on the computer as in the class if not more. All projects and notes MUST BE POSTED ONLINE. I actually dont think you need a book bc his notes are very thorough. You must know the material. His mulitple choice exams have 4-6 short essays that must be completely answered to get credit.
He is a great professor!! I very much recommend him to others. Be prepared to study just like in every other class you have ever taken within your life time that amounts to something. You get out what you put in. Good Luck!!
Professor Anaya is perfectly clear when teaching and WANTS you to ask questions if you don't understand. There is A LOT of information, so you will have to study. I RARELY used the textbook because he provided thorough notes corresponding with his Powerpoints. It is VERY possible to get an A, but requires work! Choose your Disease Group wisely!
Dr. Anaya is a very good teacher- he expects a lot out of his students. There is no way you can pass this class if you don't study. Class attendance is mandatory-he posts all notes online but goes over in depth in class-he draws many visual-aids on the board that are very helpful. I would take him again for another class.
Dr. Anaya is the best. He teaches a hard class the best way. You have to ask questions and he makes it easy for you. He is very particular in some things, but they are for YOUR benefit. If he taught any other subject related to nursing or even uderwater basketweaving, I would take that class.
Dr. Anaya knows his information and is a really intelligent guy but expects you to literally know everything!! you dont have much time for other classes at all! Our final was 185 questions with no review and only an hour and 50 min to take it! Be prepared to study at every waking moment!!
Dr. Anaya is very passionate and knowledgeable about this subject. His teaching methods are intimidation. This class is the most difficult and challenging college course I have ever taken. Be prepared to study ALOT and not much else during the semester. I studied all the time...got an A but worked my butt off to get it.
Teacher is very smart and enthusiastic about you learning material. If you take him and the class seriously you will do fine. Just pay attention, read his directions, write down deadlines etc. Everyone acts all crazy about him and his class but i had a great respect for him when we left, BC I KNOW MY STUFF NOW, thanks to him.
I knew the class and material would be difficult. The part that I didn't like was his OCD mannerisms(using paper towel to touch door knob when leaving class and calling name out and asking the class to look at you &decide what you're doing wrong. He is a bully & using power of points off grade for his OCD habits.Embarrasses people, picks on them!
Anal!
His class is a challenge. However if you show up to class, pay attention to deadlines, copy his notes, and put in your work you should be fine. He will go out of his way to help a student that wants to learn. I was originally very timid in his class but I stuck it through and was actually sad to go when it ended.
This is a great prof. He takes ANY amount of time u need 2 understand the material. He drops multiple quiz grades & the lowest test grade. YES - he has classroom rules that MUST be followed, but whether u agree or not it is his classroom & he can run it how he wants. Get used to it - there r many bosses out there that r worse!
Dr Anaya is interested in you actually learning the material. You have to come to class and follow the rules. Test come from his notes, lecture and powerpoints. Get a voice recorder. If he repeats something write it down. If he draws something on the board know it. He is an awesome teacher.
Very smart guy, good teacher, who covers material thoroughly but QUICKLY. You have to study alot, but an A is possible. Yes, he has lots of rules about aseptic techniques, but if you are going into a medical field, you had better plan on keeping things as sterile as possible anyway. Be very careful when choosing team members for the project.
I didn't realize how many whiners where on this website! Yes you have to read and study, yes he tells you more than there is on the test, yes he is very strict on aseptic technique but come on guys... what do you think it's gonna be like when you start your career in the medical field? You have to know this stuff, you have to be sterile. Suck it up
I would NOT recommand him! I have made straight A's all of my life until I came to his class. I made a B in his class BUT I had to study 24/7 to make that B. He is very anal & intimidating. He can be very helpful though when you need help. His exams are extremely hard and you have to do a hard group project about diseases. I wouldn't take his class
EXTREMELY HARD CLASS! If you choose prof. Anaya's Microbio class, you are doing so at your own risk b/c it is impossible to make an A & for some even a B. His tests are not normal tests where you memorize all the major details/topics in the textbook or notes. In his tests you have to memorize EVERY single detail!I had to memorize 150 words for 1 test
I took this class in spring 2010 and it was very overwhelming how much information we needed to study for the test. I had to pull all nighters for this class and I have never done that before. At the end of the semester I left with a B even though I have never studied harder in my life. He was helpful but very strict.
Extremely hard professor. I'm usually an A/B student and this class kicked my butt.Expect to study A LOT out of class and he piles a group project on top of everything else. Also, the comprehensive final is a big part of your grade.
Tests are hard but if you study you will do fine. Study the crossword puzzels, fill in blank notes, & powerpoint slide & you will do well. His class is tough & you have alot of studying & what made me angry is that on top of all of that he had to give us a semester group project! And to make it even worse we had to present it in front of class!
Strict, anal & intimidating! Not the kind of prof. who is "on the students side" b/c if you forget to do something, sign something or if you made a mistake in lab, you are screwed. Won't cut you any slack! He has NO sympathy for students at all! If you study fill in blank notes you will do fine on test. Impossible to make an A unless u study 24/7.
There is ALOT of info. to be covered in the semester, so expect to put alot of time into it. Come to class prepared and answer the questions asked. Dr. Anaya lays things out clearly, but if you still have questions, he's always avail. via email. He offered outside of class/office times reviews for tests. I'd take this class and professor again.
This is not an easy class. He was very clear when lecturing and clarified if we had questions. His office was open for tutoring and he was very prompt in responding to e-mails. Don't expect to half ass it and do well. This is not an English class. Yes, there is a group project, but it is not that bad if you choose your group members wisely.
He is very knowledgable. He moves fast so you need to do your reading before class to keep up. He does give out mini-study guides before tests.Pay attention to directions before the labs or you will get yelled at in front of the whole class. He claimed to have open office hours for tutoring but when I needed help, he seemed to have something else
This class is a lot of fun and he's a great professor! Tests are not hard if you study for them and he drops your lowest exam & quiz grade. Labs are a lot of fun, but you must work aseptically or points will be deducted; but what do you expect getting into the medical field. Anyone who says he's a bad teacher obviously only takes easyA teachers.
Everyone who speaks negatively of him & his class need to suck it up. WELCOME TO COLLEGE! Anything you are going to do in the m.field will not be easy, why should the classes be any different? He really cares about his students & wants you to succeed. He has high expectations, & you should have them too. He is very approachable & easy to joke with
Yes, Dr. Anaya is hard...duh, it's micro! He has high standards, as he should. If you can't handle it, please don't go into the medical field. The group project looks intimidating, but really it's not very much work once you finish your initial tables. You hardly need to use the book at all. He is helpful and def knows what he's talking about.
A very hard class. Take all other sciences you need first. Do not take with a full load. Very good teacher! Very strict to rules, but I am sure that these details and rules may save a life someday or even mine. You will leave with open eyes to microbes and may become an obsessive handwasher!! Project wasnt that bad! Pick good people!
Challenging class and tough teacher but is well worth it. He is a good instructor and does make you think. The group project wasn't as challenging as I thought it would be. Definitely don't take this class if you are taking other classes.
WARNING!! DO NOT TAKE DR. ANAYA CLASS he is the only one in Tomball that teaches this class if you got money to waste take him Tomball do not care about you spending your money. My biggest problem with him he said if you need help come to my office when you get there he got 5 or 6 ppl in there stepping all over each other you can't even get any hel
It is amazing to see that a college can really give up on evaluating its own staff. There isn't any intention from this guy to help students understand the material presented or pass. You are offered to visit the professor's office, which is usually packed. Wouldn't be easier if the students got the learning they need during class time instead?
This is an extremely difficult class and the professor is very strict with his rules. It was definitely worth it though, he is a great professor and definitely knows what he is doing. I would highly recommend him to anybody who needs to take medical microbiology as long as you are willing to take his class serious.
not recommended! I passed his course and did a good job considering all the strict and sometimes non-sense policy. The professor MAKES NO SENSE IN GRADING!!!! for example, I sat in the front, I answered questions accurately and I never missed a class. I got a D on my attendance! There is no respect to students, and it is common to get insulted! D-
He may be tough but its how you take his personality that make this class a make or break. I went to every class but 3 and ASKED for extra help and he was willing. Its the people who don't reach out who struggle. This is a medical prep class if you expect a walk in the park you shouldn't be here. Expect Jokes..
Very good instructor, very knowledgable, uses every minute of the 3 hour course. He has strict rules, but if you follow them you'll do fine.
This teacher is awful.. I read his reviews prior to taking his class. Although they were poor I took it anyway. Do not take him it is well worth the drive to university park or another location!! Its sad that this is the pathetic teacher Tomball highers to be the ONLY micro teacher on campus!
If you expect to get an A in this clas then 1) You are a genious, or 2) you won't get an A. Extremely hard course with very high expectations of students. Only complaint is that you spend so much time cramming stuff into your head, that it's hard to take away any specific knowledge of the intended subject matter. Too much info. for one semester.
AVOID Dr. Anaya at all costs! You will regret the day you laid eyes on him. The ONE good thing I can say about him is he knows his material. His method of teaching is HORRIBLE! He is NOT helpful or approachable if you have a question. His grading system is HARSH and makes absolutely NO sense! If you take his class, you will regret it!
Dr. Anaya is a very strict teacher but he makes a very difficult subject as easy as possible to get through. He will never give you any sort of considerations for any personal or family probs, or sickness. Being as it is an Adult class, I would hope that these types of considerations would be given but you can do well if you hv the time 2 put in
Took Dr. Anaya several years ago 2 prepare for transition from LVN-RN, very difficult class but he showed much interest in his field. Very helpful in getting the required information 2 his students via power point lectures on-line, fill in the blank notes, & crossword puzzles for each chapter. Now I am an RN and thankful for taking his class.
Tough but fair, overall great professor. Go to class, do your work and study. Hard material but he is willing to help. Funny and very knowledgable about the material. If you are looking for an easy A its not gonna happen. If you want to learn, you will.
Tough material
Dr. Anaya may seem harsh, but if you think that the career field you are planning in going into is easy then think again.I graduated Nursing school; Dr. Anaya prepares you for the real world! His class is easy compared to the real thing. All you have to do is study!! And learn! If you are struggling his door is always open.
He's a cool guy but very serious! His class is easy if you actually do the work and study and he will help outside of class. He is very specific on his test and he is very aseptic when it comes to labs! And his bonuses you get it all or nothing! Strict man but cool dude!
I think Dr. A is one of the best college professors I've had so far. He is tough, but very fair. He lays all of his expectations out for you the first day of class. He's a great teacher - great job of explaining. Also gives you notes to follow so reading isn't mandatory and posts lectures online so attendance isn't either. Highly recommend!
Dr. Anaya is awesome! Although he is strict, but if you follow the rules you will be fine. Study hard for tests b/c they are not easy, book is not needed, just study notes/crossword puzzles. People who are complaining are the ppl who dont study! Take Dr. Anaya, you will not regret it! :)
Dr. Anaya is very helpful in the start of the process of nursing school. He is, as some students call it, "strict" because he is preparing you for nursing school. His notes are absolutely wonderful! He is quick at responding. I recommend him.. just as long as you are ready to study! :)
Dr. Anaya is truly passionate in the field of biology and has ample knowledge in what he is teaching. Some students will tell you, "It is the hardest "B" I have ever worked for". While that may be true, Dr. Anaya provides more than enough material to educate the student. If you are willing to put in the time and study, you will both learn and pass.
Dr. Anaya is the BEST teacher I have had in college without a doubt..the material is hard so be prepared to study and be committed and dedicated. He makes class fun even though he is very serious on his stuff but he knows what he talks about thats for sure. He prepares you for Nursing school and cares about you learning.loves his clsss ;)
Hard class lots of material to cover. Each exam is 3 to 4 chapters. Notes and listening to online lecture are a must to do well on exam. There are critical thinking questions and select all that apply questions, which also make exams tough. However, I have made As on all the Quizes and the 1st two exams. I study very hard and long hours.
Tough class. Did not use textbook at all. Anaya provided notes for each test, and test questions are down to the most minute detail. Was always busy during office hours, took a while to respond to emails. I recommend this class only because you attend class only 6 times for lab--rest is online. Very strict-- not consistent w/ point deductions
We had a huge project to do on different diseases, and the girl who covered HIV had directly quoted things he said, THEN provided real facts and studies that disproved things he was teaching. He knows EVERYTHING, so don't ever try to correct him. That's his attitude on the subject, very stubborn and hard to work with when you need help.
Do NOT take this teacher! If you don't get an 80% on a lab PRE test which is Not even a grade, he will not allow you in the lab and give you a zero on the test and then drop you a grade if you decide to stay for the rest of the semester. It is outrageous to be punished so harshly for work that is not even part of your grade. He's a horrible teacher
Not an easy A class, that being said he is a great professor! You have to earn your grade! The book is recommended but not needed, he uploads notes& power-points, everything you need to learn is going to be taught! You have to study ALOTTTTT!!!! you will earn the grade you work for! i earned a C!!! work hard for your grade=)
Tough, tough class. Definitely will prepare you for nursing school though! Study hard, and stay focused in lab… the deductions in lab can really hurt your grade!
Do Not, I repeat Do Not take this professor, you will regret it. His senseless deductions will ruin your grades. Pretending to be in a "sterile field" while half the students walk around in open toed flip flops in the lab (really dangerous). Unless you want your GPA to tank, find another Biology class.
I made A and B on the quizes and tests. I made a C on the final. I forgot to take one Nongrade PREquiz, he did not allow me to be in the lab,nor take the quiz, and gave me a zero for that quiz. The deduction points from lab mistakes and not doing the PREquiz added to 30pts plus a lower final grade. Final Grade was D. He is obsessed with his rules.
He is VERY tough. I graduated from Baylor with a Chemistry degree and this was my last prerequisite course for med school. I should've taken this course at Baylor. He has unrealistic expectations and is very strict about his rules. Don't so much as forget to wash your hands or put your gloves on wrong and he will take off 5 points from your overall
STAY AWAY! SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!! He does not care about you getting into any nursing or med school. he makes it impossible to make an A. i studied his notes did the labs and even study groups to find different ways to study and learn, but still only managed to make Cs. 8Years of what he knows crammed into 1 semester. IMPOSSIBLE.
Dr. Anaya is Very Hard. His deductions are huge but make you pay attention to what your doing. After all it is someone's life. You can do well if you study hard and non stop! His notes are AMAZING!!! Don't buy the book! Great Lectures, uploads everything! Hardest A ever! But not impossible. STUDY!!
Here are some things I forgot to mention. He's the only professor that didn't let students write on their tests. Whats up with that?! Let's see what else, rude, condescending, don't take him. Severely paranoid and OCD. labs are ridiculous. sets u up for failure. don't take him. I think that pretty much covers it. JUST DON'T. SAVE YOURSELF
Horrible proff. He is interested in his students failure. His methods ensures that you fail. It will indeed be foolish fo any student to take his class. He deducts huge points for no reason, just to ensure that students fail
Professor Anaya's Microbiology class is not a walk in the park. His class can be frustrating an challenging but the knowledge you gain by taking his class is well worth it. He makes you work hard for your grade and strives to help those planning on entering the medical field. I'm grateful that I was able to have him for microbiology.
He is not a good instructor and doesn't know how to make students understand his material. His ramblings make it hard to focus. Healthcare majors; beware. You want to grasp the material and use it later, but at the same time be able to get through the class! Worst instructor I have had in all my college years.
If you take nursing seriously and want to learn how to avoid killing your patients by passing disease, you should definitely take dr. Anaya's class. It is hard, but he is a great teacher. You will see it if you do your part and study instead of expecting grades for nothing. It is a lot of work but it is also a very important class.
Online class was so ridiculous! He posts hours long worth of recordings he expects you to listen to. No! If I wanted to hear your voice I'd sit in your in person class. Best thing is MEMORIZE your 60+ pages worth of notes for every test. Takes off lame deductions in the in person labs and doesn't respond fast or at all to emails. YOU WERE WARNED!
Dr. Anaya is not there to teach you as much as to show all you don't know. He intentionally singles out older students for demerits. My bachelors is from an Ivy League university and I'm used to tough profs. Dr. Anaya has a complex and looks to trick you in exams, labs, etc. You better know his lectures and notes word for word.
He gives you EVERYTHING to pass the class-I never opened my book and I'm pulling off a B. He gives you fill in the blank notes and crossword puzzles. I just studied the notes before every test-he also likes to mini-review before lecture starts and it's really helpful. He comes off as rude and judgmental, but he's alright. He's a great professor.
There are 5 tests, you need to read and understand every lecture, powerpoint and word in the book to pass them. There are a good deal of critical thinking on the tests so you can't just regurgitate knowledge and pass. It's a hard subject, he tries to make it easy. Be on the ball for labs. You will get deductions and they will lower your grade.
I think his intentions as an instructor are meant to be good, but I feel him to be a bit arrogant. I have been an R.N. for 18 years and realistically he seems to be a little insulting to many in the profession (LVNs) & some facilities. His job is to teach not intimidate.
He's a bully. It doesn't matter if you do good on the material-if you miss one too many classes, he'll drop your grade without a second thought, no sympathy for students who actually have real life happen outside of school.
He's a great professor to teach you the material. He really made it easy to learn. However, he comes off as arrogant, and cold towards students which is in my opinion, not what you want in a professor. We aren't all trying to get into nursing school. It's a shame that he's the only one to teach the subject. I want a professor that's inspiring.
Classroom where attendance can determine your grade, not how you perform compared to everyone else. God forbid you have real life happen more than two days. He's not an understanding professor, he won't work with you if you miss that third day-automatic grade drop. The slackers of the semester can earn a higher grade than you-UNBELIEVABLE.
Yeah I feel like the bad characteristics outweighed the good ones. Too bad he's the only professor to teach the subject. There are a lot of great ones in the Biology department. I'd pick any of them over this guy. Take it at another campus if you can.
He came off as intimidating from the start. Unapproachable, rude, pessimistic. bad vibe compared to my other classes and professors. Actually compared to all of the classes and professors I've had-including when I went to A&M.
He's okay. Not was I was hoping for in a professor but he taught the material well. Lots of studying if you want to pass the class. Fill in the blank notes. Dropped test.
NOPE. Just no. Run away and take it at another campus. This guy doesn't care about people's lives. He will screw your grade up if you miss, no matter the reason, even if your child is hospitalized- doesn't matter if you know the material or not.
Don't take him if you have children!! I only missed 3 classes but delivered academically with a B. Did that matter? No it did not. I had two sick children at home on those occasions and he still lowered my letter grade based off of those absences-even though he verbally agreed that I would be okay. Ruined my A-B semester. Set me back an entire sem.
DISLIKE
Will just stare at you if you say something that he thinks is stupid-really? Rude, rude, rude professor. I can't believe he still teaching with the way he treats some of his students. You're screwed if you have responsibility outside of his class. He doesn't care.
Wow. I see that not a lot of other students liked him either. Glad I wasn't the only one. Maybe if he actually tried caring about his role as a professor and a mentor, students would enjoy his class a little more. I don't know why he feels like he has to be so rude in order to teach us discipline for nursing school. Full of hate it seems .
I took Dr. Anaya for Medical Microbiology and I have enjoyed the class. He does expect a lot from his students but he is trying to make better nurses in the world. If you want to become an amazing nurse or want to know what to expect from a nurse then you should take this class. Just remember to always wash your hands :)
Good class but if you do not study you will not pass the class. Don't me the professor on that. Though, take him as a last resort.
I learned just as much reading the test book but if you need help interpreting text his lectures are very good. Mr. Anaya just seems so angry about life and passes some of his misery to the students because he is granted that power in a classroom. If he doesn't like something about you, your A will be robbed away in whimsical lab deductions.
While I can appreciate his passion for what he teaches, I would aruge his approach needs revision. I think Dr. Anaya forgets we are students first and foremost, mistakes are going to happen. The class notes that are given to us can be up to 20 pages long for each exam. Exams are EXTREMELY detailed and very tricky. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
Tough grader. Feels like he's always trying to set up booby trapspit falls.
Professor Anaya is strict but he is doing it for the students to excel and grasp what he is trying to teach. If you read and fill in all the notes for class there is no way you can fail the class, but most students are lazy and unprepared! Appreciate what he is trying to instill in his students, he means well trust me.
Yes, he is a difficult grader, he is strict, and he expects a lot. And he is trying to make BETTER nurses! The people who complain and whine wouldn't last two weeks in the nursing program. Now that I am in the nursing program I wish I would've paid more attention in his class. Considering re-taking it just to have a better grasp of micro.
Professor Anaya is great. He prepares you for the real world of nursing and how to become a thorough, prudent nurse. Notes are provided for you and you follow as he lectures.. Just put the effort into it, study, and ace your exams. Also, as someone mentioned previously, don't forget to always wash your hands.
I'm in nursing school now. I can honestly say that nothing prepared me for nursing school more than Dr. Anaya. He does everything he can to make his students understand the material. It's tough material to teach, and he does an excellent job. I'm so glad he was my teacher. I would recommend him to anyone. I LOVED this class and found it very doable
I enjoyed Dr. Anaya's hybrid class. He is strict, nitpicky even, but his expectations are very clear and he does a great job of presenting the information you need to know to succeed in his class and in the real world. He is prepping you for nursing. This class isn't easy with any professor, but he makes it as fair, easy and learnable as possible.
This is class is hard with any professor. While he is strict, nitpicky, and his test are difficult. He is just trying to make good nurses, and he is expectations are clear of what he wants. He offers great study materials that some teachers would not even offer. I would take him again.
Took hybrid class. Managed a B taking concurrently with chemistry, didn't open the book once-only studied his handouts a day or two prior to test. He is very nitpicky and strict, to a fault, but you can manage an A with some effort. This class isn't going to be easy w any teacher, but you will learn something and his heart's in the right place.
Dr. Anaya is tough, his tests are hard, and you must study a lot, but I learned so much in this class and really enjoyed it. His lectures are great and he thoroughly explains all of the information covered. You do not need a textbook-just study the notes in detail! Dr. Anaya really wants his students to learn and be successful!
Dr. Anaya speaks fast, also funny. DO THE HANDOUTS. I recorded all his notes on Quizlet, FIND it. Watch LAB VIDEOS AHEAD OF TIME. Read lab notes before quiz days. Exams have TRICKY wording, ARE UNIQUE, only SEEMS HARD. Occasional bonus points in games. BONUS DISEASE ONLINE TEST is TIME LIMITED. Took his class as a blow-off elective, just for fun.
RUN! your answer is counted wrong if it isn't in the correct tense, or if it is supposed to be plural or singular. All the answers for the hand outs are in his lectures but is test are "select all that apply". RUN!!! FAST!
This is a hard class no matter who you take but he gets you ready for nursing school if you're really serious about it. Show up to class, ask questions, make flash cards and you should do just fine.
Dr. Anaya explained the information very well and I actually felt like I learned it. His tests appeared difficult but if you watched the whole lecture video and studied his notes they were simple. I didn't enjoy his personality in lab though and all hoops to jump through, not so compatible with being an adult and not a typical college student.
If you are expecting an easy A you should get out of the medical field. This is one of the hardest classes in Nursing. He gives great lectures and has more in depth YouTube lectures. If you study everything he gives you and read the material you can pass this class. I love his attitude and how he tries to create a friendship with his students.
He's AMAZING. I don't understand how anyone could give him a bad review. Textbook & lab book aren't necessary- very generous of him. He put in so much time & effort to provide amazing study tools- videos, notes, and crossword puzzles to help his students succeed. You're in for a rude awakening if you think he's hard and should switch majors.
great professor, very clear lecture. I learned a lot in his class, enjoyed.
Professor Anaya was a great professor! Ample opportunities for bonus points and extra credit. He presents the material in layman's terms, clear, and to the point. His youtube videos are a huge tool for success. Read the class notes provided and participate in the chapter assessments!! He provides crossword puzzles for vocabulary and quizlets
Uses mild profanity in his Youtube lectures. Unreasonably withholds study guides until a day before the exam if you do not score a 75% on his practice exams when a study guide is the whole point of trying to study for an exam. His labs are EXTREMELY nit-picky and you WILL get points deducted for slight infractions. Very unprofessional in my opinion
It's clear from previous posts 5 years ago, he has had the exact same issues over and over, yet has done nothing to adapt his teaching style. This says a great deal about his character and how much he cares about students success. It is TRUE, he WILL penalize you for being an older student and thinks its his job to be a nursing professor. Wrong.
Very intimidating. Lab environment is so tense. Students are too uncomfortable to ask questions. Looks for minuscule reasons to deduct points. Has gotten too comfortable with his position. Has forgotten that this is an entry level course. Complain to higher ups!
I was hesitant to take his course because of few reviews on RMP, but for a 200+ level biology course, the level of difficulty was commensurate with what I've experienced. As a future HPF, you should be able to know, think, and do. Dr. Anaya followed his syllabus. He is fair and tough and I had to think critically. I respect him and would take again
Do not buy or rent a text book He has a YouTube lecture for every chapter and it coincides with a sheet of notes that are what the tests are dereived from as well as study materials all test questions. In lab you must be on point but it's nothing you wouldn't expect from a biology major course. He appreciates participation and encourages questions.
I don't know why people are surprised this class is difficult. If you are looking for an easy A, don't take this class. The info learned in this class is essential. I took this class as a hybrid. There are 5 exams, a lab exam, and a final. DO THE CLASS NOTES AND WATCH THE VIDEOS!!! He does offer bonus points. It's hard, but not impossible.
The class is hard, but if you study the notes he gives you should be fine. I memorized the notes and got an A. He is strict in labs, but you are working with live microbes and he does not want you to get infected! Doable class, entertaining lab, would take again.
Every test has a bunch of select all questions and particle credit is not given for getting a few of the correct answers, all or nothing.
STUDY HIS NOTES!!! Don't even bother buying the book. 5 tests and a final come directly from the notes and he loves select all that apply. A lot of opportunities for extra credit! For the labs, you just need to learn how to play his game because he will take off points for little things. Keep your mouth shut and do your work and you'll be fine.
Do NOT take this professor. If there is no one else available, wait till next semester. His lecture videos are like 5 yrs old, & he sounds like he's eating & drinking, very distracting. No guide for tests OR final. Labs are ridiculous, 4 labs worth 5pts each (bonus), you will lose 5pts PLUS he makes you draw 2 names of others & he takes their pts.
Don't take this prof! If he is the only prof left then WAIT for another semester! If you message him he will blow you off & tell you to look at the syllabus. His tests are a lot of check all that apply and only gives bonus b/c passing his tests are hard. Lectures: rambling, eating &drinking. He does the bare minimum when it comes to teaching!!
Took Dr. Anaya in the fall of 2017 in his semi-hybrid course. Managed to earn a B in this class. This is not an easy course to take, no mater who you decide to be your instructor. He does make you work for your grade, but in return he does exam adjustments, multiple chances for bonus points and is CRYSTAL CLEAR about his expectations. Good Teacher!
DON'T LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS. Dr. Anaya is one of the best professors I have ever taken! If you need help, he is ALWAYS available through email or during office hours. He will go over anything you need trouble on. If you print out his notes and study/do them, you will make good grades on every test. Wouldn't have taken anybody else for Micro!!!
Hard course to take in the first place, you will need to study all the time for it. Professor Anaya can be very difficult to deal with and has unrealistic expectations. Not the best professor, but his online videos are useful, and if you aren't doing well, try different studying tactics, test are brutal. Be prepared before class for the lectures.
If Tomball offered another professor I would take him or her. I am currently enrolled although he does try to make it understandable. The professor makes his class based on what HE thinks nursing school is like ...a lot of extra rules for no reason
The whole environment is very uncomfortable...I feel like I cant learn anything in lab for fear of losing points. I shouldnt have to feel this way if im trying to learn. First day of lab we stoodnthe entire time just to go over notes online. I think he knows he is the only option to take and takes advantage of that fact
Dr. Anaya is one of the best Professors I have ever taken! I thoroughly enjoyed his class & he is there to help you be successful! He is VERY clear about his grading process & also offers bonus points. DON'T NEED BOOK. ONLY NOTES. You CAN pass, but you have to put in the work. I was worried at the beginning, but I ended up really liking him.
Is the class an "easy A"? No. Can you make an A, absolutely! You're just going to have to work for it as you should have to for any class, especially an upper level science predominantly for nursing majors. That being said he goes well above & beyond almost any other professor in terms of giving you tools & extra credit to get the A. He was great!
I am a A student but this my second year in lone star this professor try 2 make strict useless standards which he thinks that he can prove himself in this way he should b a grammer teacher instead biol b cause he is not concerned about learning the subject just spelling and subject verbs agreement a friendly advice avoid making my mistake.
The worst instructor ever seen
Re taking this semester because I got a "D" honestly I did not apply myself. He is a wonderful teacher.
Definitely one of the hardest classes I have taken. His class helped me so much for RT school. You have to be there every day, cant be late, he is very strict when it comes to labs. Gives you great chapter reviews to study along with PowerPoints and crossword puzzles. Expect a quiz after every lab. He gave a free ebook but I hardly ever used it.
Dr. Anaya is an amazing prof. I took his hybrid class (half online, labs in person). He gives all the tools you need to make an A. All test questions come from a chapter summary; he also provides quizlets for each unit as well as crossword puzzles. If you take the time to study and take the practice quizzes, the tests arent too difficult. No book!
Dr. Anaya is amazing! He simplifies the text with his own summaries, provides video lectures and Quizlet for his students to succeed in this class. He also gives extra credit which you have to earn. It is a challenge, but, if you apply yourself, put in the time and effort to study, you can make an A. I work 7 days a week, and was able to get an A.
This is by far not an easy subject within itself. Anaya's syllabus is worse than he actually is. He is extremely fair in his grading and expectations of each student. You have to earn your grade! I do not suggest taking this class in conjunction with other classes b/c there is so much information you are expected to know. Self-discipline is a must!
Dr. Anaya was amazing. I took him for Medical Microbiology hybrid format. He gives you EVERYTHING you need to be successful. He lines out in his syllabus a study plan. Took time to make online lectures, summaries of the chapters, quizlets, crossword puzzles, and gives bonus pt opportunities. You just have to do the work. Full-time job and got an A.
Do not take this professor, I ended up with a F since it was my only choice other than a W. He provided very little material for studying. No outlines, no direction. His "lectures" are basically him rambling, not actually teaching. I reached out and asked for more direction and clearer content and he never helped me. Take someone else!!
Dr. Anaya is teaching a difficult subject and it is important if you are going into healthcare. I took this course and A&P II while working full time. He was always available to answer questions and wanted to help me succeed. Lots of extra credit built in so DO NOT ASK FOR MORE! I think I could have gotten an A had I only taken this course.
Dr. Anaya is a bit of an enigma. He gives you a lot of opportunities to earn extra points & gives you a lot of resources to do well in class. I skipped the textbook entirely & just used his provided resources. He does have a sense of humor but I found him to be a difficult pill to swallow while in lab. I would not take a course from him again.
Dr. Anaya was a pleasure to work with. Yes, his class is difficult and he expects only the best from you. He will only give you the grade you work for. You absolutely have to put in the work. He is a fair, honest guy, and to be honest if you cannot handle this class do not even bother applying into nursing school. He is a great instructor.
He is a great teacher! Very funny. He gives you everything & even uses a FREE textbook. Give him a break. He actually cares about our safety, so he has to be serious in the lab. Things can make you sick! Put in the work and do the tons of bonuses. You will do fine. I wish he taught other classes so that I could take him again!!
Great teacher! His goal is to make you better in your profession! This class takes effort from the student but he gives you all of the tools to get and excellent grade. To all the people complaining would you want a doctor or a nurse working on you that skated by in school to get the grades? Do the work, study, and you will get an "A"
Dr. Anaya really tries hard to help his students. He gives us tons of stuff online. there are videos and I liked the crosswords. Watch the videos!! They really helped me get an A! The book is free but you don't really need it if you use his notes and videos. I have kids so I can't afford expensive books. He really cares about us! Take him.
First, Micro is not easy. Dr. Anaya is one of the best professors I have ever had. He condenses chapters down to summaries for you to study from and also provides a lot of bonus opportunities. He is strict in lab, but if you can't handle that then you can't handle nursing school. If you put in the time and effort, it is not difficult to get an A.
Dr. Anaya is a fantastic professor! His class is difficult and he is strict in labs, but if you put in the work you will succeed. He gives many opportunities for extra credit and provides several different platforms for studying to ensure you grasp the material i.e. crossword puzzles, quizlets, & review sheets. I highly recommend his class!
Don't let the negative reviews trick you!!!! this is a hard subject, and you must study a lot no matter who you take. Dr. Anaya is straight forward, tells you exactly what to do to pass. DO NOT MISS A LAB EVER!. Do the puzzles, and do every single one of the bonus assignment because that will ump your grade. Listen to the instructions and follow.
I took his hybrid class. Tests are hard but if you memorize his chapter summaries you will survive. He runs his classroom by intimidation and if you do what he wants you wont have consequences. Not much respect towards students. Please take someone else, it was an awful experience and Im speaking for about 85% of my class.
This man knows his stuff! 1st day he tells us about this new virus spreading in China & how it is going to come here. This was early January so I looked at him like he was crazy! He kept warning us & helped us prepare for what is happening now! You can tell that he loves what he does & he really cares about his students. Take him!
By far one of the best professors, I took the hybrid class that was later transition to all online due the the pandemic. But let me tell you he is organized you dont need to buy a book he gives all the material you need pass and succeed. This semester was not easy due to sudden changes, but I manage to pass with an A.
I started the semester off taking his hybrid. Well, coronavirus stepped in and I wasnt able to go to my labs. He offers everything you need to pass for free. You HAVE to read the outlines. I didnt even read the textbook and I passed with a B. He offers so much extra credit. I got around 30 extra points. He DOES require a webcam for bonus pt quiz.
GREAT teacher. Many extra credit opportunities, DO THEM! The extra credit saved me! He is very clear and keeps you interested with his wit and straight forward style of teaching. He is quick to respond to any questions. As long as you focus, DO THE WORK, and extra credit, you will do great!
Professor Anaya is hands down the best professor Ive had at Lone Star. Yes there is a lot of school work in this class but he gives you everything you need to pass. Professor Anaya was so understanding with the COVID-19 pandemic. I learned so much in this class. If you have to take this class, take it with Prof Anaya. You will not regret it!
I took Dr. Anaya's Medical Micro hybrid class. He is an awesome teacher, he gives a lot of work but, they are necessary assignments to pass the tests and the class. If you do the work you will pass. He gave great feedback for assignments and offers extra credit. Overall, if you do the work stay on track with your assignments you will pass & learn !
Love Dr Anaya. I got an A in the class, but I worked for it. Great teacher and always avaliable to help. I would definatley take him again. Be prepared to work
I took Professor Anaya during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was given all the materials I needed to be successful but my grade wasn't what I expected it to be (I'm an A B student) this is the fault of my own as I didn't manage my time properly or study enough. As I just mentioned, time management and studying are KEY! Do both and you will be fine!
Study the outlines thoroughly. You dont need the textbook. He offers the lab manual for free. Great teacher overall. Adapted well with converting labs to online during COVID-19. The only thing bad I have to say, which is why he didnt get 5 stars, is because he teaches the class for nurses. He doesnt care about other health professionals.
An excellent instructor who goes out of his way to cover all bases for different learning styles such as crosswords, lecture videos and chapter info packets over each chapter with a LOT of info, but the EXACT info you need to succeed in this class. FREE TEXT (but not needed). A LOT of extra credit. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Anaya - one of the best!
Professor Anaya is a great professor and human, he is very understanding and will go out of his way to help you anyway he can. I'm so glad I chose him to be my professor for Micro. I learned so much from his class. You have to put in the work to get the grade. DO the bonuses!! Take him!
Dr. Anaya lab was strict but I can understand the importance. He gives plenty of extra credit. no need for the book. Just read the summaries, do quizlet, crossword & watch the lecture videos you should be good. I worked 40+ hours and was able to make a B+, with all the extra credit I made an A+. He is a good teacher just do your work you'll be fine
Dr Anaya is one of the best teachers I've had. 1st day in lab I was a little put off by his strictness but it all makes sense now, given what we were going to be handling in lab. Due to the pandemic everything, incl. labs got moved online, but his class is well organized and you don't even need the *free* textbook listed for his course.
GREAT professor! Took as a hybrid but never went into lab sessions due to Covid. Tests are easy if u write out notes for each of the chapters. TAKE THE BONUS QUIZZES!THEY HELP SO MUCH!There are 3 or 4 per Unit and they help ur grade & help u study. His review sheets are VERY accurate for whats on the test. No essays. Take him if you wanna succeed
Professor Anaya is amazing! Take him! you won't regret it. The textbook is free but you don't need to use it since he gives you summaries to review and that's all you need to do for the tests. He can be strict in labs but it is only because he cares about his student's health. He is a great professor, very knowledgeable. You won't regret taking him
I was skeptical about taking Professor Anaya after reading the older reviews Im so glad i took him. Text book is not needed. Each exam has a study guide! Makes life much easier! Gives extra credit! Ive retained so much knowledge that i now consider myself to be a germaphobe! TAKE HIM. I PROMISE YOU WONT REGRET it! I got an A in his class!
Professor Anaya is hilarious and very thorough in what he does. Tests are easy as long as you read the PDFs he post with each chapter & watch the videos. Tests don't require lockdown and no final. No paper, and he does include 2 bonus assignments. 10/10 would take again!
Professor Anaya was a great professor (especially considering I was dreading this class & its difficulty level I heard about) READ THE MATERIAL, DO THE QUIZLETS, AND DO THE BONUSES. He wants you to succeed, but he expects you to do the work. He is readily available as well as classmates for help!
Professor Anaya is a great teacher. I learned a lot and became somewhat of a germophobe thank to his class. This class itself is difficult but he goes out of his way to help you and he wants you to succeed. Do the work, ask questions and participation matters.
Professor Anaya is the teacher that restored my faith in educators. Was very hands on with all his students and wanted to help. He genuinely cared and did attempt to help everyone pass. Teaching wise - he's HILARIOUS it is easy to stay alert and on topic with him as well as learn the material. If you have to take Med Micro take him!!
I took Dr. A's class over the summer and I am so glad I did. Dr. A's summaries are AMAZING!! If you study them top to bottom and practice is Quizlets, you will pass this class. While he doesn't require a lockdown browser, please do not think you will have time to cheat!! Study hard and you will pass! I HIGHLY recommend him! No book required!!
Literally the most amazing microbiology professor!, the subject is hard itself but he does give you the review sheet you need and it tells you what you need to pass the tests! if you do the work and read the summaries/ lectures you will do great! He made the class enjoyable and always reminded when everything was due!
Professor Anaya is great!!! I took his class for the summer and it was wonderful, I learned a lot even though it was a short period of time. The only thing I regret is the fact that I didn't take it as a full semester. I enjoyed his lectures so much.
Took this Professor the Fall after COVID started- Very easy online format to follow along with. The content was extensive but he did well to help you learn how it all ties together. This course was easy for me, but I think if you just read the content and ask questions, you will do fairly well.
He is amazing. Dont listen to the bad reviews. He gives you ALL of the study material. No lockdown browser definitely no time to cheat. No book. Tests are 55 min long 45 questions. Read his study material, youll pass. He is actually pretty funny also. Gives plenty of extra credit, easy to contact. NO LATE WORK.
He has fantastic lectures and materials. Organized and clear, and he teaches well!
One of the best professors I have taken. He is always available to help and his response time is fast if you have questions! If you go study based on the quizzes and reviews you will pass with flying colors! Take professor Anaya, you won't regret it!!!!!!
Too much. You cannot have a job to take course. For 5 points extra credit, you have to study 66 pages of material. Test and quizzes are timed. you can not skip and go back. If you have test anxiety and need to think over a question, do NOT take this class. You have to memorize pages of material. Test are super hard.Textbook is free.
He is an excellent professor because he wants you to learn and know the material well. He provides only the material you need to know. His summaries are easy to understand. There is no book required in this class because professor Steve provides the material you need to learn. What else can you ask? Take this class, and you will learn to love it!
Microbiology is definitely a difficult course, but this is a great professor to take the course with.
Take this class! The tests aren't easy, but if you study the information he gives you, then you will pass!! This isn't a "wing it" class, study the material and you'll be good!
The best online teacher I've had. His lectures were informative, entertaining and taught in a way that made the information easier to understand. I didn't even need the textbook. Unlike other teachers he doesn't remind you of exams so it's best to put exams on a calendar.
Hands down my favorite college professor. He is very clear from the start on his expectations. All due dates are firm. Provides a summery and video for each topic. He provides a review outline for the exam which I filled out while listening to his lecture video's. He really wants you to understand the material but your grade depends on YOU!
Dr.Anaya is a VERY reasonable teacher. If you are used to any kind of rigorous schooling, classes, etc. then this class is a breeze. No textbook required, he gives you all the material you need. Take advantage of the readings, DO THE REVIEWS, use the quizlet (helps a lot), USE WHAT HE GIVES YOU! Manageable workload.IF YOU CARE & TRY YOU WILL PASS!
This class is an easy A as long as you do the review sheets, but his tests have strict time limits so don't expect to be able to cheat. You have a long time to do the tests/assignments for the unit before it locks and he drops one unit exam
Great professor! He genuinely cares about his students and how well you do in this class. Professor Anaya replies to emails quickly. Microbiology is a very difficult class but this professor makes it fun to learn.
Would take Dr Anaya again in a heartbeat! I will always remember him because he is the most amazing professor ever. He cares so much and he does everything to ensure we do well in his class.
Dr. Steve provides tons of information, chapter summaries, notes, interactive notes, and video lectures to ensure your success in this course. His lectures are engaging, informative, and effective. For those that enjoy learning and are willing to study the material (not reading heavy though), this class will be a breeze.
To pass: do your lectures, read his SUMMARIES (all you need is there) and do quizlets. 1 peave: web lockdown for all homework. Timed and many matching questions for time given which leads to rushing and getting things wrong. Suggestion: Add more time to allot for matching questions or get rid of web lockdowns for our homework. Very down to earth
Professor Anaya was an amazing and caring instructor, he provided all of the information that you needed to know and I really appreciated the quizlets and crossword puzzles. The only thing I disliked about this course was the lockdown browser with webcam, but I understand why it was enforced. Just do the work provided and you'll succeed.
Professor Anaya makes this tricky class a breeze. His engaging lectures, comprehensive notes, and helpful study tools like Quizlet really set students up for success. Definitely utilize unstuck study alongside the materials he provides for optimal preparation.
I truly enjoyed taking his class. It is a lot of information but he makes it reasonable to study. I would most definitely take his class again!!!
Professor Anaya provided materials that help students study. It helped me a lot to understand the lesson by listening to the recorded lectures and summary. He put a lot of effort to make sure his students succeed. If it was a difficult lesson, he was open to repeating the subject until the students have a better ubderstanding.
No participation trophies awarded in this class, and he makes it a point to let all students know the expectations on day 1. Provides a ton of resources including his own crossword puzzles and quizlets. Do the work, and you will not only walk away with an "A" but with a thorough understanding of the subject matter.
I'm sorry... but absolutely awful. I took the online class and the way he had things set up was confusing and unorganized.
Every quiz, assignment, and test is online. Every single thing he assigns has webcam+lockdown browser and you get to use 1 sheet of paper that you can write notes on. He has summaries for every chapter that has everything you need to know for the test. There are 4 tests (one is dropped) and a final. Easy class if you read the summaries and study.
