This guy TOTALLY loves movies!!!! And he knows his stuff.Loves to talk movies and has a great sense of humor. His exams tend to be both multiple choice and essay, but if you pay attention on class, watch the films, and memorize stuff, you'll get an A or B
this guy loves movie and if you show that you love movies also you will get A in the class.
This professor's great!! Gives you all the notes and answer to the test before every movie. Come to class write down the notes and you'll get an A!!
he's good. you should be able to take good notes. if not you are in big troublbe . will examine you on the stuff you think is not impotant.
Looks like a 70's **** star. Loves to flirt with pretty girls, but will still make it hard for you. If you study, you'll get an acceptably good grade.

The class consists of 3 tests and a final. one of the tests is dropped, thankfully! Take notes! the tests is mostly m/c and t/f but there is also an essay. although the essays are easy, it's only worth a few points. most of the movies are interesting.
To get a goood grade in this class. You will need to study very very hard, attend all class sessions and read the text book. He gives good notes, really you just need to memorize everything in your notes and you will do fine.
We watched intersting movies in class. There is only three tests and they are very detailed so your grade is risky.
There are 3 tests, lowest dropped, and a cumulative final. The reading is nearly irrelevent, wouldn't bother with the book. Anderson knows just about everything about every single movie ever, and he's hilarious. Just be warned that the tests are not easy. Don't risk a D/F if you're bad @ tests.
good guy
this guys awesome. hes really cool, its a pretty ez class, u take notes and watch movies. THATS IT. the tests are kinda hard (3 tests) , just be sure to pay attention to the movies and study the notes before the tests and you should be ok. i NEVER read the book, study my notes a little the day of the tests and i got an A. i recommend him.
He was a fun teacher. But it is not and easy A.You have to write his lecture and memorise everything. THe tests were difficult. After all headackes I got a B in his class.
this class has its ups and downs. overall, its very laid back and simple...but when it comes to the test, all bets are off! you definately have to read the textbook and study you notes!
He is a real cool teacher, the class is fun, and the tests are really easy! He really knows his stuff! Ur an idiot if you think this class is hard.
by the way... they changed cin 18 into 107 and you can still get credit for cin 107 even if you already took cin 18.
You will have to memorize ALOT of actor's names nd dates. The films are Black/White. I LOVE the old classic films and I have a great memory so of course I enjoyed the class ALOT! He has the biggest crush on Grace Kelly ,his wife is a blonde & therefore he thinks blondes are hot. He cracks a few cornjokes from time to time which I found quite funny.
He knows a lot about the subject and his love for it is apparent. You can learn a lot in the class. He gives a few tests that are easy to prepare for because he lets you know what material you are responsible for. You view films in class and discuss them afterwards. You become aware of things that you never noticed before on seeing these films.
This teacher is a very hard grader.. his tests are ridiculously hard and specific. You need to read a lot out of the book and it is hard to comprehend all the details in which he tests you on. very boring class!
nice guy, most of the time you spend watching the movies, some good, some terrible (space odyssey)lots of name to memorize (god know what for) - overall: one of the more relaxing classes i ever took
Professor is a hoot! His Jokes are funny, if you're smart enough to get them. He talks to himself a lot. I didn't buy the book and still got an A. You have know and memorize a lot of information, but his tests are worth it. Don't miss any lectures! 90% of the test is his lectures! Great Class! I'm glad I took it.
funny guy. u learn a lot. don't buy book, u won't need it. pay attn to whatever he repeats, will be on exam. can't make class? rent the movie. but have a friend take notes on discussion after movie. memorize a lot of details i.e. character + actor full name, studio, yr. filmed. prof. can be rude at times. he WILL lock u out! very big on puncuality.
He has somewhat sense of humor. Really hardcore strict with his like two rules. You can't talk or turn your phones on during class. You don't really need the book, and the movies you watch are awesome. He really knows what he's talking about. The lecture notes are what's important in the class. I want him again! T-T
You get to watch a great collection of movies. Tests aren't that hard; u just gotta listen in the class. I'd recommend his class for anyone who wants to have a good time and get some credits under his/her belt.
I didn't use the book at all. He gives out handouts about the movie for the first half of the semester. In the second half, he writes down on the board all the info of the movie. All you need to do: watch the movie and take notes (he will sarcastically mention what's important.) I really enjoyed the choice of movies he showed us. I got a B.
Great teacher!!! I relly enjoyed his class..dont buy the book, you wont need it..but dont miss any class cause the test are base on the movies and the can be hard to find. If you gotta take an art class, take him you'll learn a lot
Mr. Anderson is great! I have a greater understanding of the art of cinema. He developed a critical eye in me, and for that I am appreciative :) Take him!
i love prof anderson. He always says really weird things like "i have a problem being in love with actresses that are dead." But his class is SO interesting and he's really knowledgable of film. You have to study for the class a Lot but it's most definitely worth it. He opens cinema to a new depth of understanding.
Mr Anderson is a combo between House and radio d.j., Joe Benson. He is a great prof. You get to watch cool movies and discuss them for a deeper sense of understanding. I would recommend this class to anyone.
i like him
This Profesor is very humorous. The test are more difficult if you don't have the text book. However, he bases mostly the whole test on the films that he shows, so don't miss class! he is very strict on tardiness! He will lock you out. His clas is very enjoyable, I do look foward to it every week.
A very fun entertaining teacher. Most non-film buffs will be bored the first half by the Black and White silent films. Tests very detailed notes. Little things he covered in lecture or was seen in film so take notes and watch the films. If you do that its a really easy class with a good fun teacher who knows his stuff.
i like him. he's very nice and funny. i did like to attend his class. attendence is very mandatory!! i missed half a class once and got a D on the test. there are three tests and one final. take him he's really fun
take him!! :D
Great class! Prof Anderson is big on respect - him, yourself, others. Don't be an idiot & you'll do just fine! Notes are crucial & you need to buy the book. Try not to miss class & if you do, get lecture notes from someone smart. The tests were based on the material - this is college, yah? ;) Take him; you won't be sorry. He's a good guy!
Talks a lot
professor anderson is an awesome teacher. he is funny & interesting. he is clearly passionate about movies which is great. the movies he chooses to show in his classes are really interesting too. i am so happy i took this class i definitely learned a lot & looked forward to going every day. you need to study & read the assigned chapters in the text
smart, funny and about the best film class/teacher i've taken.
Great teacher. Great movies. Really enjoyed that class and looked forward to going to class. Don't expect this to be just some easy A of a class. If you are interested it makes it a lot easier but by no means is this a class or professor Anderson a push over. Enjoy!
I loved this class. If you miss a lot, this class isn't for you. You have to be there for the notes, but i barely used the book and I got an A.I dislike westerns though =/ like I told him back to the future 3 was the only western i liked. Anderson is GREAT. Loved him, dunno why he's still single. Looks a bit like Hugh Laurie =)I rec this class!
professor Anderson is the best professor in pierce college i loved his classss ... he really helps his students .. his class is soooooo much fun .. he is funny easy ... take good notes... i loved movies because of this great professor .... TAKE IS CLASSSSS FOR SUREEEEE
He is super easy! I took him in the spring and did not even get the textbook and still ended up with an A. Almost no homework and the tests are very very easy, just watch the movies. He is nice and caring. Easiest A I have ever gotten!
He is super easy in my opinion. I am currently taking his class and got A's on all the tests so far and literally studied 3 hours before the test. Easiest "A" that I have ever gotten. If you have to take a Historical Cinema class take him. He knows what he is talking about and is very flexible. I think everyone in the class is getting an A so far!
Very good man who is really easy if you show up to class. He makes the class easy by creating easy tests and accomidating his students in the best way possible. Definately an easy A, all you have to do is show up, take notes, watch movies, and study for the tests (notes). Keeps it simple! I like his teachings! Cool Class for sure!
Steve is super easy and super helpful. You will get an A if you just come to class. Good class. Easy A.
Anderson is the best Professor ever I have ever had at Pierce! Provides everything you need to know in order to get an A. No Homework just really easy tests. History of Motion Pictures is a very tough class but Anderson knows how to make it easy. He really does not care but his goal is to get you an A as well as give you some passion. Easy A!
he's a great professor! i had a great semester with him and the movies were actually really interesting. no homework, study you're notes and you're good for the tests. take his class, you won't regret it.
Professor Anderson is the man! He makes the class easy by providing us with everything we need to know. I had a lot of fun in his class this semester! He is awesome and will go out of his way to help you!
This class was pretty fun, or should I say the teacher made it fun! He usually went on his tantrums, but like he said "a tantrum usually states another point of a point" :) With that said, there was a lot of useful info that he provided about cinema, learned a lot. Take good notes, attend class and you will be fine. Good teacher overall!
This teacher is incredible and knows what he is talking about and he is hilarious beyond belief. Always came to class ready to teach and he made his tests simple. All you really have to do is show up to class and you will walk out of his class with at least a B. Really cool guy and I am going to miss him.
No Complaints! He is super easy and a great Instructor! Does favor girls so if you are a girl take him you will get an easy easy easy A. If you were a guy like me read the notes he gives.
Take him if you have the chance! He is chill and easy going. Class is a breeze as he gives you all the answers to the test. Very nice guy and we watched some great films. Hitchcock was my favorite! Hopefully, he will be teaching the CIN 107. He is incredible and I would take him again in a heartbeat. I give him an easy A only because he is chill.
Professor Anderson is awesome and knows how to get the material across! He has a tendency to favor certain students (mostly girls) but all in all he is a very good instructor. Tests that he drops if you do not get a good score. Extremely passionate about the subject! I took him on Monday's from 5:40PM-10:00PM but it was always worth it to come!Easy
The best at Pierce! He is so cool and laid back! You might get a "B" but it is so worth it! You will learn a lot! EASY "A"; if you get anything less than a "B"; Why?
You will love taking his class. He is very witty and has a crush on all the girls in the class (if you are a girl then you got an A). If you are a guy then you have to work for your grade by coming to class and participating. 3 tests; drops lowest score, no final exam. Easy class as long as you show up and put the effort into it.
Freaking best instructor in the history of instructors. Interesting lectures, funny (hilarious), kind individual. Going to his class is like going to a party. You watch films and then comment on them. He tests you on what goes on in his lectures. Easy A. He is very good looking too. I would like to take him again. Please teach another Cinema class!
Best dude ever. So freaking chill and has the easiest tests that you will ever take. He does not pile on any work on you and you just have to take his simple tests. Really the book is not necessary because his tests are based on the lectures. The lectures consists of watching movies and then him talking about what will be on the exams.
I took him amongst one other Professor at Pierce and I actually liked his class just as much as the other Professor but there were a lot of immature high school students in my class so it was hard to follow the Professors lectures because they would always be giggling. I wish the class was not in a high school but whatever. he was cool.
EASY freaking A, don't even bother getting the book, he will tell you everything you need to know so if you go to class, you'll end up getting an easy "A!"
Awesome teacher, great class, loved the movies & informative analysis. Very funny & he really wants you to enjoy the films. Get to class 15 minutes early to take his pre-notes, take lots of notes from his lecture, type your notes and compile them orderly, you will have to use them for your final. Take good lecture notes and really pay attention.
Mr. Anderson is a fantastic teacher! If you are interested in film, you will learn so much and get to watch some very amazing classic movies. I really enjoyed this class and I wish that it would have lasted longer!
This class is great! I'm so glad I was able to take it. He shows really good classic films and gives really interesting and humorous lectures. Also, don't worry about the book, just write down everything he discusses. Professor Anderson is the best, he furthered my love for cinema. I am forever grateful, thanks professor ??.
Great professor! Attend all the classes because exams are based on discussions in class, so listen up & take notes! and you will be fine:)
Steve is the best! He is extremely easy and nice. He just asks that you come to class and watch the movies -- they are really good.
He is very sarcastic, you don't feel comfortable asking questions, he just talks and his lectures aren't very clear, he speeds right through the material, and his attitude is really horrible
This class made me really appreciate classical movies. I looked forward to watching the movies on our syllabus. Make sure you take notes since a lot of it will be on the test. The tests were easy if you studied the material which wasn't a lot. He lets you drop your lowest test so it helps boost your grade up.
I really enjoyed this class! Professor Anderson is funny and he makes the class interesting and entertaining. I learned a lot about understanding cinema and some of our great auteurs. I highly recommend this professor!!
Every class meeting includes a movie and a quick lecture .He speeds through the lecture and you are likely to miss a lot of info. He's not clear on what he'll ask you on exams or final. Only 2/50 questions are from the book (don't buy it). Overall, fun and interesting class, but not necessarily easy. To get A take good notes and memorize names!
Steven Anderson has a certain dry humor about him that can be more entertaining than the movies he puts on. Tests are mostly about the information he gives before and after the movies are shown. Be sure to write that information down and to memorize names of actors, characters, and movies. Also remember such things as # of Oscars won by the film.
Professor Anderson is such a fun teacher to have. Many think his humor is a little on the offensive side, but he reminds me so much of Dr. House. Please tell me I am not the only one! He was my first Cinema teacher, and enjoyed every minute of it. When he lectured after the film, he does go fast but you can ask him to repeat if you miss anything!!!
LOVED this class! This class opened my eyes to old movies, Im extremely happy for taking this class. We watched movies and then he lectured. Anderson is pretty funny and loves to read these reviews haha. Great class. I would definetly take it again.
Tips to do well in this class (1) don't miss class, attendance is important b/c a good portion of the tests come from his class lecture. (2) take the handouts, buy the book, and read them b/c that'll be on the test too . (3) Answer the extra credit question he gives at the end of the final. He's a great teacher, and if you try, you'll do well!!
Very funny and friendly. Basic class, his tests are pretty hard unless your an expert at film backgrounds. Minimal extra credit.
I took this class in the Fall of 2017. Make sure to attend all classes he will provide you with all the information that you need to know to study for the test. I didn't read the book but once for the first test didn't feel we needed anytime after but keep in mind he sits with all the material and book readings for the test that he provides us.
Excellent professor. You can really tell he enjoys his job as he is always making jokes during lectures (although sometimes there are hit or miss). Just joking, I had a great time in his class. He is very clear and thorough on his expectations of you and what will be on the test. If you get the chance, take his class!
First off, Mr. Anderson is very funny and will always keep you engaged. All of his lectures and handouts were very useful and they will both help a lot on tests. In order to get an A you have to devote a decent amount of study time. Textbook is not mandatory but it definitely helped me out with some questions on the tests. Please take this class!
I took Professor Anderson over Summer 2018. He is vastly passionate, vastly knowledgeable, humorous, open, and chill. You will not dread going to every class. FIlms were amazing. Do listen to the lectures and take good notes. Forming study groups is helpful. This class was a real gem. If you get the chance, do take him! You will learn a lot!
Professor Anderson is one of the coolest professor's I've had. I took Cinema3 before this course and this one was just as great. His devotion to film is so evident in all his lectures and handouts. Since taking the class, I now watch movies with a different understanding of what went into making them and why certain shots were chosen over others.
weekly quizzes and like 4 discussion posts. really easy, i never watched any of the movies but still got 100% on the quizzes. you will do well if you just read his lecture notes before taking the quiz. does not curve and is very strict with grades. you get what you get.
I took his class online and learned a lot. His lectures (provided on canvas) are fun to read. one quiz per week, and discussion for some weeks. Quizzes had 5 questions and were 5-10 mins. For both the midterm and the final, read the pages of the book he assigns and his lectures (final was not cumulative). The book was easy to read.
Easy A. I enjoyed most of the movies he assigned. The book really isn't necessary, all you need to do well on the quizzes is to thoroughly read his lectures (at least for the online class). 5 discussion posts and 2 cinema cafes where you log on to chat about the topic of the week. Really generous, he added 10% to everyone's midterm and final score.
Professor Anderson is an excellent professor. He gives extra credit for every midterm which is nice. You watch a movie every week and take a short quiz on the material. Just study the modules he provides and you will succeed. There are also a few discussions and chats you have to do which are fun and easy. TAKE HIS CLASS! You wont regret it.
I took his class this fall, and I honestly looked forward to doing the work. There's a quiz every week, but they're honestly easy. He gives printed lectures, textbook readings, and movies to watch for the week, yet it's very easy to fit into your schedule. It's an easy class, and if you love film, you'll enjoy it.
This class was amazing! There was one quiz per week about a specific movie that was 5 questions. The quizzes were based on the lectures the professor provided that were about 4 pages. There was a discussion per unit on the topic of theme and 2 mandatory chats you had to participate in. The class was very simple and straightforward!
This class was set up very well! He gave us one week per module and the midterm and final had extra credit for his asynchronous class! Put in the work and you will get an A!
Professor Anderson is your go-to professor for online media arts classes! He's well set up for online learning. Each week a new module opens, and while there is a textbook for the class, it's not needed as he has amazing notes for you to read. He's very kind and often gives extra credit for the tests. If you put in the work, you'll get an A!
The lectures given are interesting and the films you watch I promise you will love. Each week a new module is introduced and consists of a quiz that's based on a film for that week you watch and a lecture. Very simple stuff be sure to study for midterm and final (not cumulative) or else they will be difficult. All Quizzes are timed so Study well.
Easy class, make sure you attend the Cinema Chat which is your fav ending or scene from the film. Quizzes and 2 exams. 3-4 straightforward discussions. 100% would take again.
Easy class, hard teacher. The coursework is straight forward and light. Textbook not required. He gives some extra credit on both the midterm and final, which is nice. The midterm and the final are the most challenging part of this course. 50 mins for 70 questions, only 40ish seconds per question. Watch the films, read lec notes, and memorize names
The coursework itself is pretty light, just a movie and quiz every week. There are also weekly live discussions based on the movies, so make sure you watch them. I didn't need to use the textbook for the class. I wish we got more time to take the midterm and final (50 min for 70 questions), I felt very rushed when taking them.
I thought the class was going to be more interesting. For the online course, you need to read the lectures---that's it. You don't even need to watch the movies, because the quizzes and exams (midterm and final) focus more on the lectures. The Cinema Cafes are pretty easy, just write your answer beforehand. Overall, an okay class.
This online class is pretty straightforward. Quizzes and discussions are manageable, and the professor provides helpful lecture notes. I found unstuck AI useful for midterm/final prep. Overall, a solid class if you stay on top of the work.
Fun and cool online class! Wish he taught more than just 107. Learned a lot about moviemaking and director style. Anderson is the prof to take—clear expectations, organized, great lectures, easy quizzes, and a sense of humor, too. Loved the live, typed chats about movie scenes with other students. Quick responses to my emails.
I'm one of those “older” students returning to school after many years. So glad I took CIN 107 w/this professor! I never knew there was so much to learn about films. Movies are much more than just action. They should make you laugh or cry or think—sometimes all 3. The assigned films gave me a new appreciation for the craft of film making.
Normally I stay away from online, but gave Anderson's Cinema 107 a try anyway. Interesting films & lectures. Short quizzes each week. Midterm. Final. Chat rooms (Cinema Cafes) were especially cool. Easy to contact him through Canvas. Book was helpful. Recommend the class!
Literally just finished the Summer Cinema107 class and really enjoyd it. Got a solid B. Probably an A in a regular semester, but glad to get the 3 units in just 5 fast weeks. Honestly, I did procrastinate a bit on a few assignments and it cost me. Appreciate the extra credit!
Loved the class! Amazing films & lectures! I never realized how weak today's movies are compared to the older ones. The dialogue, especially, was really cool back then. Well organized class. Highly recommend taking it.
Take his class! That's it. One of the best I've taken at pierce.
literally BEWARE. u are given two mintutes to answer five question quizzes, each question weighing a whopping four points. u have two attempts and ur grade is the average of ur first and second attempts.. the class feels so controlled and ur grade is literally completely dependent on your midterm score. questions r so unrelated, dont take him
Easy class but you feel rushed on quizzes. Regular quizzes are 2 minutes long. Midterm was 70 questions and you only get 50 minutes (not even a full hour) He DOESN'T give makeups or doesn't take excuses or gives EC(only after MT and final). Great movies and Cinema Cafes are easy. Withdrew because I failed the MT and no way of getting my grade up
Enjoyable, fun class. Learned A LOT about movies. Likd his sense of humor. I highly reccomend taking him. If you study and submit the quizzes and other assignments when due (no late work accepted), you should get a very good grade. Love the Cinema Cafe chats!
This class was painful to take. Credit is given as all or nothing. I forgot to put one of three response and got a zero on an assignment. There is no extra credit except for a few points on the final and midterm. He gives weekly quizzes that have a two-minute timer for textbook questions.
Just finished Anderson's Cinema class and wish he taught others! VERY organized. One film, a detailed lecture and 2 minute quiz each week. Midterm, Final,, 4 short essays (based on films watched), and online chats for points with other students. Reading the book helps.Thats it. Oh, extar credit, too. Take him!
