Class was interesting if you like the material!
Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Awesome professor!!
Great prof, lots of fun in class, enthusiastic and funny!
AWESOME!!!
He is such a good professor!
SO nice, very appraochable, animated, makes class interesting
He really cares about students and very enthusiastic about science!!
So friendly, willing to help you, interesting, loved coming to class!
Reasonably difficult...good teacher
Amazing Professor. Always made class enjoyable. You can tell he just loves what he is doing. He is very open-minded and wants students to do well.
test are hard, you have to study alot, but he is a good teacher and makes the class time go by quickly
really hard tests, really cool teacher
Awesome dude who actually makes class interesting. Tests are definitely hard... very hard. Walking away with a B is realistic. He lets you correct tests and assignments for more credit.
I never thought I would actually enjoy geology, but he made is so much fun! He is enthusiastic and helpful. He wants his students to do well. If you put in the time and study, you will be fine. Take his class, you'll enjoy it! AWESOME PROFESSOR!!
i have never enjoyed science before this class, but dr. baedke makes geology fascinating! if you want an interesting science, i highly recommend it. lab can be difficult at times (especially memorizing rocks and minerals), but it is still a lot of fun.
very nice and funny... great professor... take his class... his tests are hard but not unreasonable... great class!
AMAZING. I love this guy!!!! I actually wanted to go to every class. I even enjoyed taking the tests!!! I'm definitly going to minor because of him and this class. So cute too!! Awww
SUCH a good teacher.. i have always hated science but he makes it bearable - you can tell how much he loves what he is talking about. Def take him!!! Very nice, funny, and helpful.
By far the best teacher, I have had in College!!!! Take any class of his that you can find. I too am minoring because of his class, and I can't wait to take others that he teaches. I've never had a teacher as knowledgeable and as enthusiastic has he is.
BEST TEACHER EVER.....HIS STORIES ARE AWESOME...AND HE IS DEVOTED TO THE SUBJECT...HE ALMOST GOT ME TO BE A GEOL. MAJOR! TAKE HIM! YOU NEED TO STUDY THO
Excellent Teacher. Take Him! A+++++
He was an interesting and entertaining teacher..he actually made this subject interesting! Take him if you can..you won't regret it!
He's amazing. He makes the world make sense! And he's such a dear. Take this class!!!!
He's a good teacher. He's nice, clear, and fun. The class is a little tough, but he makes it clearer for you. Study and you'll do well. There's hardly any outside work.
Extremely nice and helpful. Class is interesting but you will have to study to do well on the exams.
such a nice man!!! really willing to help and wants to challenge his students. you have to study for the tests, but definitely worth taking!
Dr. Baedke is a great professor. He teaches as to make everything clear to everyone and never hesitates to re-explain anything. The concepts covered in the course are definitely easily grasped, but the exams he gives are tough. Go to class every day, and don't skip labs or you'll fall behind quickly.
Awesome guy, loves geology. Very willing to help and wants you to understand geology. Awesome guy, very dedicated. Take him!
Overall my favorite class at JMU. I hate any kind of science and geology is probably the most interesting thing I have learned. As long as you go to class and lab and study for the test, easy high B or A.
don't buy the book, tests are straight from lecture notes. pay attention in class, the lab tests are what dragged down my grade, and memorizing what the rocks look like is a pain. very interesting comments on problems that face our planet. overall a great experience and I feel like i took away alot from the class. got a B+ with little effort.
Good Prof, good lectures, no excess assingments, labs are kinda tuff(memorizing), the tests are based of lectures so go to class and its not bad, Book is useless dont buy it. Take him if you have to take Geo 110
Baedke just straight up loves what he does. Very good guy who is definitely worth taking.
Baedke is a good guy, whose lectures aren't very exciting but are usually interesting. His tests were kind of difficult, but not to bad. If you want to do well, go to class because that is where ALL the test material comes from. He threw out my lab grade because some old dude who was clueless taught it, which made me really like Baedke.
Don't buy the book. That's the best information that I can give you. Stresses big on controversial topics, so if you're outspoken, don't disagree with him.
Baedke is an awesome professor! Very good at reinforcing what you learn so that you even remember it years after you took the class. LOVES and is enthusiastic about geology! Great overall, just like the overall geology dept at JMU!
Covers way to much info for a GENED. He needs to realize most people are there just to cover their GENED. Tests are pretty hard. Powerpoints are online but they don't go into any detail. Weird sense of humor and VERY nerdy.
I absolutely love him! The beginning of the semester is okay, but towards the end he starts talking about real life happenings and it is SO interesting. I'll take more away from this class than any other gen ed I'll ever take. TAKE HIM or you're missing out! (no textbook, 3 tests that are super easy)
Professor Baedke loves what he teaches and all of his material is very interesting. Tests arent easy but not impossible either..fun class and a great teacher
Great guy. His lectures are always interesting, however, some people see it as a "doomsday" class cause the material explains how we are killing the earth and ourselves. Don't buy the book (he even tells you not to, or to share). Tests are tricky. Study notes and know how all the different earth phases work with eachother
Great teacher who loves what he does. Interesting material and he keeps it interesting. You will learn a lot although his tests are somewhat difficult. I recommend him!!
He is very kind and more chill than he seems at first. His tests are easy, so long as you pay attention in class there is no need for a text book. As a gen-ed he is a great choice for non-science majors too, making the material very relate-able.
Dr. Baedke is a really nice guy who is extremely helpful. However, if you are a bio major looking to take this class because you think it will be easier than OChem2 or biochem, THINK AGAIN. This class is actually VERY challenging (it is very heavy in geology knowledge), but if you're up for the challenge, Dr. Baedke will help you through it.
Steve only grades 3 tests and that's your whole grade. Attendance isn't mandatory but his tests are based only on lecture. It's boring. He's nice but you will not do well in this class, it's not an easy gen ed.
Steve is a very easy professor. We do not use the textbook. He tells us word for word things we need to know for the test. Class is boring but worth it to get A's on tests.
He cares a lot about his students and wants you to succeed. Pulled out a B+ in the class. I would recommend him. Classes are kinda long and dragged out and tests aren't the easiest but he's a good teacher and you'll get a good grade.
Baedke is the man. Really intelligent and clearly knows what he's talking about. Took this course as my science requirement, along with the lab, and I debated switching my major to geology after I took it. Awesome guy, pretty funny at times and super approachable.
Steve is a very nice and knowledgeable man. However, if you want to take an easy gen ed with a lab, THIS IS NOT THE ONE TO TAKE. His tests are very hard and consist only of information from class discussion. He always mentions having a low class average on tests. You have to put A LOT of time into the class to do well.
Baedke is the man! I'm a senior Bio major and took this instead of Biochem. His tests are either take home or in class, but you can use your notes and book. You can do the homework as many times as you want until you get a grade you're happy with. The man is great and wants you to do well. 1010 would take
Doctor Baedke's class was just what I expected out of a gen ed geology class. Show up to class (don't waste money and skip) pay attention and it will be a relatively easy B. He has a review day before every test and the final. Gives opportunities for extra credit so show up to class. Very few assignments. Would take again loved Baedke.
3 tests including the final. Awesome guy with a ton of knowledge. Funny and you'll definitely take away a lot of good quotes from this class if you have any friends taking it with you. Show up to class and he'll remember and probably give you extra credit. My grade is only so low because of one bad test due to a unique situation I was in last year
Not a bad class at all. As long as you take notes and study you'll be fine. But most of your grade is based on the tests because there's no homework and only a couple quizzes.
He's really passionate about what he teaches and it shows. No textbook for the coarse and there is rarely homework. The tests are tricky and require a lot of studying to pass.
I only took this class because I couldn't go through another class like Ochem or biochem. I hate chemistry but I LOVED THIS CLASS. It's not easy, but it's nothing compared to Ochem. Baedke is very likable.
Baedke is obviously very passionate about teaching and he is such a lovable guy. Sometimes his powerpoints are a little confusing, but he puts them all online. He gave 3 easy quizzes 2 homework assignments all semester. The tests are kind of hard because he has a lot of "B and C are correct or "all of the above" questions
I'm a bio major and took this class instead of ochem 2 or biochem and it was such a good idea. it isn't easy but it's definitely manageable and not work intensive. 3 exams, 2 take home and 1 open-note in class. all 3 were hard but he curves and hw counts for a big part of your grade and he lets you correct it. 100% recommend, he's also a cool guy
Pay attention even a little bit and you will pass this class. Memorize some material and take brief notes, download his ppts. He is very helpful, and the last third of the class is very interesting. The first parts are a little bit boring, but tolerable. No textbook, no homework, and easy tests. He's funny and a wonderful professor.
I honestly loved this class. I did skip more often than I should because it was all the way in Memorial, but make sure to get notes if you don't go. The material really isn't hard. Some of his lectures are boring, but I loved him as a professor. I would love to take this class again. Rarely any hw,a few EASY quizzes. Study for exams! There's only 3
TAKE HIM!!!! He was so sweet and funny! I would love to take another class with him. His lectures were great but not too over-barring. You didn't need to go to class to pass because he puts everything online but his lectures were worth it!
Really enjoying this guys class! He's pretty lecture heavy so don't miss class, but he makes the subjects very easy to understand. He's always willing to answer questions and he definitely cares about each student understanding the material and getting good grades. Take good notes and don't fall behind and you'll get an easy grade.
Dr. Baedke was my favorite. Ive been interested in Geology ever since. He did not require a specific textbook so the lectures were everything, though he did not grade attendance. He is very nice and approachable, he is also very neutral when it comes to disputed topics. He's an easy grader and very good at explaining the concepts. Take this class!
Literally nicest professor out there. Never once heard him yell, very respectful of students. Very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject which made lectures actually interesting. Genuinely cares about students and their understanding. Not out to trick you, sincerely wants you to learn. I would take him again in a heartbeat. Def recommend.
He loves the material and wants everyone to do well. His lectures are long but he's a funny guy who tries to make everyone love the material. There are 3 exams and homework.
Baedke is such a sweet guy. He is so passionate about the topic and really wants everyone to do well. His tests are based off of what he says in lecture, so you really have to go to class. His tests are pretty hard, but if you take good notes and study you should be ok. Def recommend him!
I was not looking forward to this class, but Baedke made it one of my most enjoyable gen eds! He does have content-heavy lectures that you should go to if you want to do well in the class. There are only two or three graded assignments other than the exams, so don't count on lots of points. He'll meet with you as much as necessary!!
He is a really nice guy and wants everyone to do well. He grades extremely fair and is aware that not everyone loves the subject. He posts his slides but his lectures give better explanations. However, the flow of the class can get jumbled on occasion but he is always open to questions & willing to re-explain. Good alternative to orgo 2/biochem.
Baedke is great, he really really cares. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, he is so helpful and guides you to the right answers. The tests are pretty time consuming and hard but he gives you all the tools to pass them. 2 long homework assignments but really not bad to do.
Inspired me to pursue topic further, blew my mind a few times.
YOU MUST GO TO CLASS! Everything on the test he says in lecture only. Overall he is an extremely sweet and caring guy. He tries to relate to students but it never works and is just funny. He really wants you to learn not memorize. I've heard he's one of the best lecture professors. I recommend taking him.
One of my favorite Gen-Ed classes. Wants you to succeed, but you have to go to class because his tests are based solely off of his lecture. Very interesting class, he is a great teacher and keeps it interesting. Tries to point you in the right direction for what is on the tests. Such a nice guy!
Very nice man. Willing to help if you ask. Lectures are very informational. whole grade basically based off of 3 tests, but with good notes and minimal studying you should be able to do fine especially if you took a geology course in high school. Power points sometimes don't have too much information so I would definitely recommend going to class.
Such a sweet man, but you HAVE to do well on the tests to get even a B. Go to every class because everything you need to know he verbalizes and aren't always on the slides. Getting a C on one test killed my whole average so do well on the tests, it's all you have.
Dr. Baedke is a solid professor. This class was straightforward, while the math/chemistry was hard sometimes I always went to his office hrs and he was happy to help. This class is 2 HW assignments and 3 tests, 2 take home and one conceptual in class. If you need another upper level chem class, take Geochem w/ Baedke!!
Definitely take if you're a bio major that struggles with chem and needs alternative to ORGO 2/biochem. He gives 2 huge hw assignments (definitely go to office hours, he's a huge help). The first exam is extremely difficult, but gives big curve. 2nd exam and final are simple if you put in the time and understand the hw. Huge curve on 2nd exam.
Professor Baedke is so nice! He seemed interested in our class and always seemed to be very caring. The one thing I can say is that there are only 3 tests including the final and two small assignments that barely affect your grade. So if you don't pay attention in lectures and don't do good on the tests, then it'll be hard to end with a good grade.
Easily one of my favorite professors. He handled the transition to online learning very well and I hope I can have him again! His explanations are fantastic but most of the class relies on test grades so make sure you study a lot. Also if you belong to any underrepresented group, (minority, etc.,) you will feel very welcomed in his class.
Dr. Baedke is very passionate about what he teaches. He was willing to meet outside of class when I needed extra help & even gave me guidelines on what to study. Final grade is based on 3 tests & like 2 assignments so you have to do well on the tests in order to do well in the class.
A truly great professor. He is very kind and respectable. My only issue is that he has graded us on 3 total assignment (and 4 separate exams) but he has the assignments weighted so high that I missed one and dropped from a 100% to a 22% and I have spend the rest of the semester trying to do well on exams to bring my grade back up.
Professor Baedke is a really chill guy outside of class and I may have just had a bad experience with him because he was out for half the semester but he also doesnt give back grades and sometimes hell say he graded something but wont post it. Hes also really picky about grading on both tests and homework. GO TO CLASS OR YOU WILL FAIL!
This class is 100 people in a large, dark room where you listen to him lecture for a straight 1h15 and take notes on black and white slides. Baedke is a really nice dude. Whole grade is 3 hard tests and 2 quizzes. Bare minimum will get you a C-. Would take again because the course was very relaxed and fun, but if you skip class you will fail.
Dr. Baedke is one of those professors whose passion for his work bleeds into the entire class. He's a really nice guy who makes a lot of jokes, but at the end of the day, he's here to show you why this field is the one he chose. Tests are curved, and while attendance isn't mandatory, he does keep track of it. I seriously can't recommend him enough.
Love Baedke! Super sweet and funny. Lectures are long and informative. This class does require studying but this class is doable. Grade based on exams and a few small online assignments. I appreciated that Baedke does care about his students and is passionate about what he teaches. Take him!
Dr. Baedke is one of the best professors I've had at JMU so far. He always emphasizes that showing up to class is the best thing you can do (and it is). He lectures for the majority of the class, and he responds to emails fairly quickly. Grades are calculated from a couple of assignments and the exams. Definitely recommend!
Had him for lab. Not many lectures but lots of work. If you don't go to class you wont pass. He explains things very well. Takes forever for him to put grades in. Took my final exam two weeks ago and still don't have the grade back.
Dude, let's be real, geology stinks. BUT if you have to take it as a Gen Ed, this guy is the way to go. Very understanding of students, explains things we see every day in simple terms, and wants to see you do well. However, you have to study. The whole grade is based off of a few exams and 1-2 homework. Baedke though, taking every time 100%.
I loved the class and wish I had him for lecture as well. Labs can be hit or miss but this one was fun and quite easy and in the beginning we would be let out early. Some group work but mostly individual. Easy homework and interesting lectures.
He is the most adorable human ever. Attendance is through a QR code so if you miss class someone can send you that. Really no amount of work is given, you just have three exams but the final isn't cumulative. Before every exam, he uses a class to review what is on the exam, so if you miss some notes you'll be fine.Geology sucks but he makes it okay
Baedke has been one of the best prof i have had. You can tell how much he cares about the topics and it makes you interested too. He has great stories and explains things in the easiest way to think. Def fall a little behind if you just miss a few classes.
I love baedke, but this is a tough class. You're only graded on 3 tests and a couple homework assignments. The tests are difficult; the average score is usually around a 70-75%. Baedke is funny, caring, and passionate about geology, but you have to go to class and study hard. He really wants you to be successful, but he won't make it easy.
I would not recommend taking this class if you are looking for an easy gen ed. You are mostly graded on 3 exams and your attendance. I went to almost all of the classes and still did not do well on the tests. The average grade was 70-74 for each. If you do average on 2 tests but horribly on one your grade will tank and theres no way to bring it up.
I took this class for a gen-ed credit and I will say off the bat that don't take this class if your looking for an easy gen-ed. The class is fairly vocab intensive and your grade depends on how well you do on the three tests. However, he is an engaging lecturer and he is open after class if you have any questions. Great professor overall.
Lectures are really interesting and he's a great lecturer but you probably won't get a super good grade in this course unless you put a lot of effort in. Only 3 exams with occasional homework but he also gives you points for attendance. You're allowed a cheat sheet for the exams too which was nice. Overall a very great guy who's super passionate
It is such an honor to learn under this man. He is very passionate about what he teaches and will make his expectations very clear. I took him for both 110 and 355 and can say both times I genuinely learned so much. He is so engaging and the topics are interesting, but he IS a tough grader. He is hard on you but it is with good reason.
Awesome choice for Geol 110. Really chill guy, and very passionate about his work. Gives heavy hints on test topics during lectures, and realizes that many students take this for a Gen Ed, so it is not an extremely challenging course. Review notes and diagrams before tests, and you'll do well.
You have to go to class in order to do well. His class is definitely very difficult, but he is a nice guy.
I loved having Professor Baedke he's a very kind and caring professor who recognizes that students have a lot of work outside of just his class, so he made the workload very light. Attendance isn't technically "mandatory" but he does have you scan a QR code to check into class every day and you get points for doing so.
The tests are super important, be prepared to study like crazy for them. Other than the tests, the class is simple and straight-forward, not too difficult if yo pay attention to the material. Overall, Professor Baedke is a pretty good professor.
Great lectures with engaging class content. grades very fairly and encourages attendance. Very passionate about the topic and well educated/knows what he is talking about. Always happy to help you will questions after class.
Doesn't care why you're absent, you could be in the hospital and he will still count it against you. First exam so many people failed he had to curve and still most people ended up with below a C. Starts semester talking negatively on religions and how this class is based on “truth” implying religion and science cannot co-exist. Not good IMO.
This was supposed to be an easy Gened, but it could not be anymore further than that. The test are absolutely ridiculous and everyone did horrible on the first one he had to curve it and people still ended up with F's and the grade point average was a 70. He does not even teach he just reads off slides and attendance is mandatory. DO NOT TAKE.
This guy is overrated. His exams are stupid difficult, he is incredibly boring in class, and there is limited opportunity for points outside of exams and attendance. While he may have been a good professor 10 years ago, he is not anymore. If you have any respect for your grade stay away. He also sounds like Prof Sturgus from Young Sheldon.
MUST GO TO CLASS. All his exams are way harder than what he actually teaches to the class. (Test Avg. is 70 for each exam) His exams are worded to trick you and are extremely confusing compared to the content he teaches. He may have been good in the past but has definitely changed.
I have had Dr. Baedke for multiple classes and loved him every time. He is a great teacher, doesn't go too fast, doesn't test on anything that wasn't actually taught. As long as you take notes and pay attention you honestly don't even have to study. He makes this easily understandable and he is so passionate about teaching and what he teaches.
