I like the curve that he gives but there is alot of homework and it is very time consuming.
There is alot of homework in this class, but if you follow the notes and listen you should be fine. The entire class is curved and he makes the class enjoyable. From what I have heard he is the best of the Accounting professors.
TONS OF HOMEWORK!! But you learn it by doing it...
i never once fell asleep in Steve's class...this guy loves his power point presentations!
TONS OF WORK, I don't believe he realizes we are taking other classes too, literally you will have about 10 hours of homework a week NO JOKE! In the end, the curve is fantastic and much appreciated, but for the duration of the class you will be completely stressed out.
very nice guy, he gives a few projects, but they are not hard. he makes sure everyone knows what is going on. he does have an attendance policy
I thought his class was a lot of fun. Yes, there is a lot of work, but you learn by doing. He is very good about explaining things in class and you know your grade at all times. I would definitely recommend him if you have to take accounting. I think I learned more in his class than any other.
He is very nice and explains things very clearly. He does give a lot of work, but it helps in the long run. A very fun guy!
good class
This guy is hw nazi. I guess if your going to be an accountant its a good class to take. I think he thinks everybody in the class is going to be an accountant or related field. Over the top goofy at times.Notes are very sub par
Biggest Dork ever! He definately makes you laugh in class though. Do the homework, it makes your grade. Don't study for tests, its pointless. You can pull a B by just doing well on all the homework and attending class...I did!
He makes sure that you understand. If you have any questions just feel free to ask him. I got and A out of the class. You just have to work hard.
this guy loves giving hw...but it's hilarious watching him dance to his powerpoint presentations. Smiley is an appropriate nickname

Awesome Teacher!!! Best i've had yet!!!
AMAZING teacher! Put forth some effort and you'll get a very good grade. Go see him and he'll ALWAYS be sure to help. I highly recommend Stevo. After 3 years in college, he's definitely my favorite up to this point.
Gives a lot of oppurtunities for easy points.
He starts a powerpoint and if he doesn't finish it says, "you can download it when you get home." But he's supposed to teach you IN CLASS. That was not helpful and was extremely annoying. I dropped it two weeks in.
very clear and effective with his powerpoints. He assigns alot of homework in this class, HOWEVER if you do it, it will offset the test scores. easy project presentation at the end of the semester. I ended with B, other teachers I have failed in for this class. Highly recommended! show up, get attendance points, and do homework!
he's really nice. has cheesy powerpoints, but they're easy to understand. lots of extra credit given out, and he curves the tests. group quizzes are mostly open book, open notes. i highly reccomend taking steve! easiest accounting teacher by far. just make sure you go to class!
Had him for financial acct. & it was a lot easier than I expected!Go to class and pay a little attention and you can pretty well pass! Easiest accounting teacher by far!
great prof. explains everything in great detail. one of my favorite teachers. do your work and you'll get a good grade.
Great guy. He gives plenty of chances for bonus points because he know the material is tough. He teaches it well and gives you plenty of time to complete all of the assignments.
Very good teacher. Gives lots of opportunities for bonus points and helps you as much as possible to pass his class.
GREAT CLASS! EVEN BETTER THAN 2101! Class is run the in the same great style. B+ again!
Hard class, but he helps on anything you don't understand. Lots of extra credit opportunities and free help on Mondays and Wednesdays!
He is the greatest teacher ever. Iam gettin an A in accounting and i tried taking it over the summer and was gettin a 20%. Lots and lots of hw but its a great grade booster.Tests if you study do ur hw and have a sense of what is going on you will do just. To top is off he is a hilarious guy and some how brings humor into accounting! Take him if
Great teacher, he does expect you to do the work, and you will have quite a few projects, but seriously one of the best business teachers i've had. Also i've only heard good things about Benner compared to the other teachers.
He's a very good teacher, he provides power point notes and its very helpful for tests, and they aren't too bad.. we have a few projects and as long as you go to class and pay attention you will be fine.
THE BEST TEACHER EVER!! Yes, there's a fair amount of homework and a few projects, but you get plenty of time to do all of it. Tests are not too bad if you pay attention and study and he curves and/or gives plenty of extra credit. He explains everything really well and is just a great teacher all around. He's the best I've had so far at EIU.
Very good teacher. If you actually try he helps alot. Theres alot of homework but it help your grade. The best accounting teacher at EIU.
Mr. Benner is a great teacher, he's smart, keeps you interested in the material, and if you need help, he'll help you as much as he possibly can. He does a really good job on curving tests, and if the class didn't do so well, he'll drop tremendous curves. I had an 85% coming out of the final, and i got an A, so he's a really understanding teacher.
Accounting was a difficult concept for me to grasp but i ended up with an A b/c of Steve. You get alot of hw and you will hate it until it almosts boosts you 2 letter grades.Take him he is funny loves his job and the easiest accounting teach at EIU. Study really hard for the first test if will help boost ur grade b/c its the easiest.
very good teacher cares alot
i failed all 4 tests and still got a C.(didnt even take the final) He offers so much extra credit and curves the tests. There is alot of homework though, thats where most of your points come from, if your not a good test taker, then take this guy for sure.
really enthusiastic, great teacher. homework will probably take you a really long time if you're not good at accounting. tests are pretty difficult but he is VERY willing to help!
Steve is so funny he's jokes are cheesy but you cant help but laugh. He really wants everyone to do well and gives out extra credit after every test. Take him!
TAKE BENNER....
the best accounting teacher by far at eastern. If it wasnt for him teaching i would have failed, and i have an A. He gives so much homework though. The homework helps you understand the material but its so much! I would take him though cause he has a good style of grading and he tries to make it fun. he gives a lot of extra credit too!
He was very easy as long as the homework was completed. Easy to get an A if you took advantage of the extra credit and do fairly well on the tests. Very nice and funny and explains the material well.
Had Benner for Financial Accounting and made it a point to get him for Managerial Accounting next year! Very fast-paced class with a TON of handouts and powerpoints (but they're very helpful). Tests are very hard (most people do poorly) but he offers hundreds of easy extra credit points. Great class!
Great class. I reccomend taking this class with Benner. There was a lot of work, but the work helps to boost your grade. His tests are hard, but with the extra work it's worth it. The Accounting cycles were fun and they allowed you to really apply the principles you learned.
The subject isn't terribly hard and Benner is a nice guy. He gets really excited about accounting, which makes you pay attention early in the morning. Good class to take!
Steve is quite possibly the best teacher i've had in a long time! He really tries to keep everyone upbeat and positive...and helps you if you don't understand something. There is a lot of homework in the class...and it takes a lot of time to do...but it deff. helps. Tests are hard..but keep up with the homework! LOVE HIM!
The material isn't terribly hard and Benner is a nice guy. He gets really excited about accounting, which can make you pay attention early in the morning. Good class to take!
Nice teacher...a lot of extra credit!!
I LOVE STEVE BENNER...Take him if you can!! The man is absolutely AMAZING! What a man...What a man! :)
WONDERFUL TEACHER, I would recommend him to anyone and everyone. He really cares about his students and their understanding of the material. He is very educated in the class material but still seems to relate it to the students. Very helpful and great guy!!! Don't take a business class without him!!!!
Benner is by far the best teacher I've ever had. Tests are challenging, but you get tons of extra credit. You have group quizzes every now and then, but he will usually tell you an answer if you dont know it. Attendance is crucial to your doing well in the class. LOTS of homework, but most of it is just busy work....go to class and do the HW
Tests were really hard, but a lot of homework helped to pass the class.
GREAT TEACHER!!! Always willing to help, and curves all the tests. Accounting Cycles SUCK ALOT, but in the end they really help you. Gives a lot of homework, thinks everyone should be accounting majors, but end result will really help you on the tests. Gives a lot of time to work on homework so don't wait till last min. Great powerpoint presentatio
This guy is hilarious. He makes you want to go to class and it is never boring. Take him if you have the chance.
This guy is awesome. Tests were somewhat difficult but an A is easily attainable.
This professor is very enthusiastic about his subject and he is very helpful. He gives lots of extra credit points throughout the semester and a fairly sizable curve at the end of the class. However, I believe he has changed the textbook, but not the curriculum so some of the information is contradictory and therefore slightly confusing.
Teacher is awesome!! Really nice and enthusiastic. Homework takes long time, but if you like accounting best teacher to take here for it.Tests kinda hard but with enough studying not bad.If your grade high enough at the end you dont have to take the final!
Great instructor! Very helpful and gives a lot of extra credit. Just go to class and do the homework, and it's not too hard. Tests can be difficult if you don't study, but if you go to SI, they will basically tell you what the test will be.
Good guy, but he talks and teaches WAY too fast. I tried to keep up, but I didn't even have time to write down hwo to do the problems before he moved onto something else. He also favors the students who had him for BUS 2100. Too hard and fast for me, so I dropped.
This guy is awesome! Best teacher I've had at EIU so far! And he's totally cute!
Awesome teacher, knows the subject and knows how to teach it! If you do your homework and pay attention, rather then screwing around in the back row, you'll do great!
VERY organized. Great handouts. Always helpful. Articulate. Knows this subject. Tests are a little hard. Lots of homework, but enough time given to get through it all. Best Professor on EIU campus.
Nice professor, but partial, gives a higher grade to the student who takes his class in both financial and managerial! I an one of my friend had exact same percentage but I got a B and he got an A! UNFAIR
Mr. Benner is a great teacher. He explains all the material in detail before any test and does not leave you out there to sink or swim. If I have any future accounting class I will definitely take him if possible.
Steve is an amazing professor! Some people think he flies through material too fast, but just pay attention. You can only miss 3 of his classes per semester. I think he explains things very well so we can understand. Most of the points are "easy A" assignments. Also, go to Supplemental Instruction each week. You will get A's on the test if you go.
Seriously he is the greatest teacher ever! I wish he could teach all my classes. He is so enthusiastic and makes others want to learn too
BENNER IS THE MAN
Great instructor. Benner is dedicated and loves his job. Attend class, study hard, and do all of the HW. Exams are difficult, but are curved. Go to S.I.-it provides essential problems, practice, and support throughout the course.
Benner is a great teacher, he wants to see you do well. If you do all the homework and go to class, you will get a good grade. He gives out several bonus point opportunities to boost grades because he knows the class is hard.
Future Accounting Majors please avoid him. I understand it's a difficult class. His homework and quizzes are meant to be extremely tough so that you can pass the exam which does not help you in the long run. HE DOES NOT GO OVER THE HOMEWORK IN GREAT DETAIL. His office hours usually has a line outside his door. THERE IS NO SI for this class.
I loved this class because of mr Benner. Yes the class could be difficult at times and homework takes a LONG time. But if you go to class everyday, pay attention you will get at least a B. Dont take this class earlier than 10 am. And for god sakes, study for the exams. They are near impossible. Don't take any other teacher because I honestly don't think I would have enjoyed this class as much had it not been for mr Benners fun personality and way of teaching
Mr. Benner is one of the best professors at EIU! While the class is hard and the homework and accounting cycles take a long time, he makes the class so fun and interesting! He explains things and you can talk to him in office hours as well. He also gives out SOO many bonus points. Take Benner, he's the best!
BEST TEACHER EVER!!! I never met a teacher with so much passion for his work. He is very helpful. He also gives a lot of homework but it all prepares you for the difficult exams. He also gives smiley faces on exams and cheat sheets.
Mr. Benner was awesome. His class was very difficult, but he did his best to make it an understandable subject. You don't have to go to class, but going is in your best interest. He gives out quite a few bonus points, and curves like no ones business. I would absolutely recommend.
BEST TEACHER EVER.
I wish he taught every accounting class. He is the best professor I have ever had. I would retake his class again in a heart beat.
The class was time consuming and quite a bit of work, but he reviews previous lectures at the beginning of class, answers questions well, and is excited to teach you. He really wants you to understand what he's teaching. I'm an accounting major, this was my first accounting course and I think he laid an excellent foundation.
Awesome Professor but you need to put in the time on your own as well. Easy B if you put the work into it.
AWESOME PROFESSOR who has awesome passion to teach the students!!! He always looks very happy and excited and I can see his efforts and passion in every class. Also even if I don't know well or I'm doing well, he always encourage us to do better and keep it up! He's the best professor ever! I want to take all his courses if I can :)
Mr. Benner is one of the best prof. I have ever met. I took this class and I was wondering if I can do good in exams. he made me like accounting and I am changing my major to accounting because of his good attitude. he is passionate and always excited, one of the most helpful think he does for his student provide them with supplemental instructor
This class is a lot of work but Benner makes it so fun. He is super funny and keeps the lectures as interesting as possible. They offer SI and if you go to that they go over exam reviews and all the homework. He gives a lot of extra credit so as long as you show up and do the work you'll do great in the class.
If you have the chance, TAKE BENNER. He's so passionate about accounting and will make you want to change your major to accounting (which I did). Gives a lot of extra credit, which helps because tests aren't super easy. Go to class, do the work, and you'll get an A!
He has a gift at delivering the Accounting methods
Mr. Benner is very knowledgeable about what he teaches and does a great job getting students interested in class. You will have to work hard in his class, but he gives lots of extra credit opportunities so there is no reason you can't do well if you put forth some effort.
Benner's test can be hard but the man gives enough extra credit opportunities for you to bring up your grade. There's homework assignments that may be hard but if you do it with reasonable amount of time he will help you out. He's a funny guy and he shows he is very passionate about accounting.
Even though the course was very challenging, Mr Benner is an amazing teacher that knows whats up. He's very intelligent, knowledgeable, and can be a great resource for your career in accounting. Sometimes he's very quick explaining things but he would explain it if you ask him. Some of his exams are hard but he offers extra credit. Amazing teacher!
Easy A. Hes very caring but he does want you to learn.
Class was hybrid, with all of the lectures online and a once-a-week (optional) class period where he'd run through the notes and give answers for the homework. The content was kind of boring (to be expected from accounting), but the work was fine, and the lectures left me feeling confident in my knowledge of the subject.
Quizzes are hard, but you start to get a feel for them. Attendance is optional, but if you show up he gives you extra credit, HW answers, and test questions so I would definitely go to class! Time-consuming work, but relatively easy. Loved this professor and would definitely recommend him! Also gives out extra credit-- cares for his students!
Mr. Benner is a great accounting instructor for anyone who has never taken an accounting course before. I took a hybrid class where all of the course materials were provided online and class was optional. I strongly recommend attending the in persons lectures when available because he gives out some of the answers to the homework questions.
I despised finishing accounting classes, but Mr. Benner was as great as can be. Very helpful feedback and will help you if you ever get stuck. Most teachers don't like to help on graded assignments, but he will offer great feedback. Class was pretty challenging, but if you ask questions and work the HW each week, you should do adequate.
Steve is a great guy. With that being said, his class was the hardest I've ever taken. The content is very hard & he goes through lectures way too fast. Be prepared to do a lot of work outside of class. It's likely that you will need to go to office hours or tutoring to get an A. But, Benner is very willing to help. Put in the work & you'll be ok.
He's a great professor but his core business classes can be tough. He's an easy grader on homework but his tests are obnoxiously hard even if you study. All questions have "none of these" as an option in multiple choice. I recommend (even for BUS2101) writing examples and steps on your cheat sheet for every type of problem you find in his lectures.
Dr. Benner is such a nice professor who can really teach a lot in a very easy fashion. He was highly recommended to me, and I absolutely can understand why. He cares about students and is willing to work with them. If you make mistakes, he'll help you work through what you missed. The exams are very nice (can be difficult, not usually though).
You will need at least a 1 inch binder to keep all of the papers he has; A folder will not work. Talks extremely fast and tutoring was a little rough. Be prepared for every assignment to take at least 4 hours each.
Steve is such a good professor. This was my second class with him, and I'd love to have him again in the future. The class wasn't hard, especially if you did well in BUS-2101. The exams are a little difficult because you cannot take as much time as you may want, but he lets you have a cheat sheet and such. 10/10
Top 5 Teacher's in EIU's School of Business. His classes have moved to online self-paced lectures/teachings and in class we'd work on group quizzes. The homework, quizzes and major paper are easy points but the exams are tough, even with a double-sided cheat sheet so prepare for that. Steve is very kind, passionate and always willing to accommodate
Benner is an amazing, understanding prof. But accounting is such a difficult class. His expectations are very clear and he accepts late work with certain assignments taking points off. He hosts optional classes that help prepare for exams.. GO TO THOSE CLASSES! He literally tells you what the exam material is. Homework takes hours upon hours.
Great professor, always willing to lend a helping hand, and the class has so many points its incredibly easy to get an A in as long as you participate.
