Mr. Blankenship is tough, BUT I've never enjoyed a class so much. He makes the material interesting..I would definitely take him again. I'm sure any class he teaches would be interesting. He will also help you anyway he can! I totally recommend!

Professor Blankenship spends most class time lecturing, but provides video and other visualization techniques. He manages to keep everyones attention by using lots of expression when he speaks. Critical thinking is a must for this class.

Although he is a good teacher and very interesting, he is tough and picky about everything you write. He also is a big liberal. his views about wars etc. I didnt appreciate because History shouldnt be slanted towards a teachers point of view. As a conservative it offended me.

Steve Blankenship is a wonderful teacher. He expects student's to be able to think critically and objectively about events in history and current events. A 5 minute presentation counts for a large portion of the grade, but the student is able to pick from any topic throughout history.

I hate history but he had a way of making it tolerable. His test were hard but if you put in the effort and think critically you will do fine. I will definitely take another of his history classes.

He gives great and interesting lectures. Exams are take home but very arduous. Oral Presentation in his class and an Annotated Bibliography due in his class.

I was not at all interested in history until i had him ..He makes the class very interesting and he knows sooo much!!! He’s great!! He makes me want to take another history course!!!

Prof. Blankenship keeps his history lectures very interesting. I don't know how he makes history interesting...but he does! He gives take home tests, but they are actually quite hard and require critical thinking. There is also an oral presentation, but he gives all semester to prepare. I feel like I actually learned something!

Best History Teacher of all Time!! I disagree with the comment that that class is slanted towards the teacher views, but rather a more educated word view as well as an American ethnocentric perspective. I am very conservative myself, yet this teacher helped me realize more about history than I thought possible. Thank you, Dr. Blankenship!!

Mr.Blankenship is extremely intellegent and very helpful. He inspired my interest in a subject matter that I used to hate. I don't agree with the comments that he is teaching the class with his own political views. I think that some people should toughen up and read a book.

Mr. Blankenship is the best!! I turned my final in this week and I am already missing his class. Everyday is very interesting and insighful. I wish that I could find the time to get another history class in before I graduate - his class is well worth the time. I recommend him to everyone.

Simply put. The absolute best teacher I have ever had. The attendance is not mandatory, but that's if you want to fail. Take home tests for midterm and final, but they are not easy. Is the type of person you would want to be friends with after you graduate college

what an amazing teacher! i've never had a teacher like him before, and i've had a few schools under my belt. he focuses on critical thinking, so if you're not up for a challenge -- don't take this class. i mean, i'm a slacker and everything, but this guy really got me to think. attendance is required.. textbook NOT EVEN USED. okay, once.

GREAT Instructor, wish I needed another History! He loves what he teaches and makes it interesting.

This class was not a breeze, but I learned a lot. I've never been one to want to go to class, especially history, but this one changed my view. Blankenship was very interesting to listen to. I busted my butt and came out with an A. He never forced his beliefs on us, he only fed us truth. Great class.

He is the best teacher you will ever have! you have two test, a speech, and some reflections! he requires you to think outside the box and its the most intestesting thing you will ever do! i love him!!

Blankenship is very, very intellegent, although he is also very liberal. Blankenship grades very tuff. Must study your tail off for map quizzes. taking notes in the class is essenitial.textbook almost obsolete. midterm and final is takehome but decate atleast 5 hours to each for a B. You must work your tail off in this class but def.very smart!

Mr. Blankenship is some what tough! His test are take home and they can be difficult! Heads up: ALWAYS be descriptive cause he wants to make sue you know the material!! Very, very easy. All the tests are takehome and hard, but you can work with other people and get it done quickly. If you go to class and do your work, it will be an easy A!

He has only 2 test and they are both take home he gives you a week to do them but you WILL need all that time, a speech, participation, reflections and map quizzes. Take every grade seriously you're going to need every point.

one of the hardest teachers i have ever had. I learned alot. DONT be fooled by the take home mid-term. its harder then any test ive ever had. READ ever chapter when its assigned. dont ask dumb questions. DONT be late.take verbatim notes in class. 1-2 test is based off notes.

He was SO nice and helpful, and really could make the class interesting while still teaching you a lot. He helped students relate to history and its importance instead of just memorizing a lot of facts.

i have taken Dr.Blamkenship for every history ghc offers he is amazing. you will really learn alot but you have to come to class because he dose not use the textbook for anything but half of the tests the other half is all lecture notes.

I took his class this summer online and found his DVD lectures extremely interesting and very informative. You can do well in his class just take notes and go beyond brief explanations on the two exams and you should do fine.

The best professor ever!

I'm not going to lie the first time I took his class I failed. If you let his persona get to you, he can be very intimidating. Don't be a brown noser, but he will help you if you need help. I took him 3 times after and got A's. The midterm and final work to an advantage by being take home just don't procrastinate about doing it and you will be fine

The best professor I had at GHC. Very knowledgeable and the his lectures are very organized with multiple perspectives in History. Both exams are take home, but difficult. Write down everything he says and be sure to understand the "context and significance" of each event and you should do fine.

Mr. Blankenship is great! He is always willing to help. I took his class online, we had no homework and 3 online tests and 1 proctored. He made me grow an interest in History.

Professor Blankenship is purely brilliant. He has so much knowledge it's incredible. His class is tough but not impossible, if you're not willing to work don't bother wasting your time, you'll fail. I've taken every class he has taught and have learned so much. He is very willing to help students. Dont be intimidated by him, talking to him when you need help is the best thing you can do and he is open to that. If you want to learn history without memorization take this class.

Dr. Blankenship teaches History 2111 very well. Do not take this class if you are not willing to study hard. Make sure you start doing the take home test as soon as he gives them out or you will have a hard time. History is not my favorite subject but he made it interesting. Will be taking his class again

If you can"t read, don't take him. If you can't spell use spell check. Do not turn in work copied from the internet, he knows. Don't Cheat or plagiarize he will know it, work, think and learn and you willl make an A!

It's amazing how interesting this instructor made American history. I was absolutely DREADING this class because I thought it would be so boring- but it wasn't at all. I would love to take this instructor again. He's not that difficult- just attend class, take detailed notes- you will be fine. Analytical writing skills are essential for the tests.

Took both of his DVD classes and highly recommend him. He makes history interesting. Tests are very in depth and most do not get an A in this class, but still a great professor.

I have taken Blankenship twice. As long as you take great notes, and don't procrastinate in the take home test, you will do well. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had, and I highly recommend him.

Very difficult if you don't do the work. Very fair and helpful. This is the second time I have taken his class, and wish I could take more. His intelligence is fascinating--I would love to go out for a drink with him once I'm no longer his student and pick his brain! A great guy and a great professor.

You don't have to read, but make sure to pay attention to detail. He is really anal about outline and how to do stuff. Will answer emails if you send them. Sort of engaged in his own opinion, but knows a lot about it. Also make sure to clarify on things like take home mid term if you want a good grade.

If you like engaging classes and are a very hard worker this professor will work with you on everything. His honors class was incredible!

Absolutely the best teacher I've ever had! Not for those who want to skate out with an easy A, but definitely for those who care about learning something.

Took his DVD course and enjoyed it. His test questions can be misunderstood, just don't read too much into them. If he offers to review past test, take advantage of it. It was well worth my time and earned a B in the class.

By far the hardest professor I have had at highlands. I took the DVD class, and found that it was probably a lot easier to obtain a B than had I took his face-to-face class. 3 tests and a map quiz. Make SURE you watch at LEAST 2 lectures more than what is requied on for the exam. Also, more info the better.

I took the DVD course. It was fairly easy. Lectures are very helpful & interesting. Great class.

I took his class online and loved his class.You will have to go in and have one test proctored,which is the map exam.He gives three other tests through email and you have to complete them by answering logically.He makes you really think about the questions. You have to watch a lot of dvds.If you work hard it will pay off and you will earn an A!

Perfect Instructor! His knowledge is unequaled. Do not take this class if you want an easy "A" Take it if you want a real one. Favorite quote:"I do not care what you think. I care THAT you think" You will learn at a true collegiate level. Favorite GHC Instructor.

One of the best profs I've ever had. It's been a few years since I've had him and I have not had a better prof since. He made me enjoy history. He makes you think. He makes you work for your grade, and he'll challenge you for sure. He is an incredible professor and person. Don't take him for granted.

Horrible grader! You can put an elaborate answer and get no credit while the guy beside you puts one word and gets full credit. He shows a lot of videos which isnt helpful for me and reads from Powerpoints. My friend who is an A student failed his class too. I made a 65 on the take home final and everything was copied straight from my notes.

If you try, and communicate with him, you will gain a lot from his classes. If you are there just because you have to be, you will probably get some good laughs and a B.

Best class I have had so far at GHC, but it's no joke! Be on time and able to take excellent notes. If you can't take good notes then you better record him! He can be intimidating but don't let that deter you, he is an all right guy. Find someone that has taken him before, that helped me greatly.

Dr. Blankenship is absolutely amazing. His presence demands an implicit respect and his lectures are fascinating. He is no breeze, but pushes your boundaries with respect to critical thinking skills. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Communication is key. I never cared for history until now. I loved his teaching so much that I took 3 of his courses

Hands down the best professor I've had so far in college. His class is not easy, but his lectures are interesting and he make it worth your time. First impression might be that he seems rude, but trust me, he's not! Show up to class, take notes, and do the assignments given. Take-home midterm and final, all from notes. Book only used for text quiz.

I have learned more in the 6 weeks that I've had Professor Blankenship than in any other class I've ever taken. Lectures every class. Make sure you take good notes and by that I mean literally write everything he says down. He also allows you to record lectures with is extremely helpful. Take the map quizzes seriously, and review your notes weekly.

Very nice guy plus he is funny. Also you can tell he knows what he is talking about. He also makes class interesting! So that helps a lot. If you turn everything in on time, take notes and pay attention you will do good in this class! :)

I took him for Hist 111 and Hist 2111. He got us thinking about WHY history has happened the way it did. Lecture is never boring. RECORD HIM and try to write down everything he says. Exams are open notes and take home. Map quizzes will be a great buffer. pop quizzes are done at the end of class so notes from that day will be VERY helpful.

I enjoyed his class very much. I've always found History interesting, but he makes you really think, in detail, about historical events. Attendance is VERY important. There are only 2 exams, which are take home. I'd suggest reading books he assigns ahead of time, since he won't remind you of the paper's due date. Would take him again.

Great online class format. No textbook. His lectures are on Youtube. No stupid Lockdown Browser. You do a short discussion post every week. You do a 1-page reflection and a quiz every other week. Quiz's are 5 questions long. Midterm is 50 q's. Interesting lectures, too. It is easy so far, but I am actually learning. Crazy right?

10/10 Best History Teacher. Attendance is a must. The quizzes are challenging to critical thinking. He makes you WANT to learn about history. Serious nature at first, but cracks jokes and breaks the tension. Take a LOT of notes. Would and probably will take again. He knows what he's doing.

Blankenship's lectures are great! You can tell he is extremely knowledgeable. He is very helpful if you try. He will only put in as much effort as you do! I made a bad grade on a test and he took the time to go over it question by question so I would understand it! Great Professor.

Blankenship is my absolute favorite professor thus far! Record his lectures, take detailed notes, and talk to him about any issues you have and there is no reason you won't pass. His tests are take home, if you need clarification over any question email him. He will not tolerate laziness on your part!

If I needed any more history I would definitely be taking Dr. Blankenship. I honestly wish I had only found him sooner because I would have taken him for every possible history class available. I would have to say he is hands-down the most intriguing and engaging professor I have had at GHC!!! I positively LOVED this class and professor!!

He's a great professor, I think there were 6 reflection papers. Those were pretty simple. The map quizzes are tougher though. And he will state contexts and significances of things, TAKE NOTES!! You can pass this class easily if you take lots of notes.

At first I was sceptical about his class, then soon realized he was a great proffesor. The map quizzes are the easiest grade I've ever gotten, just study them and easy A for the quizzes. He makes the lectures so interesting that I would take him again if I could. As long as you go to class you can pass easily.

Blankenship's lectures are so interesting! You can tell he really loves what he does. Yes, he is a tough grader, but he is very clear on his expectations of your work. Test can be a bit tricky, so you must take notes, but they are take home. Awesome Professor! I would take again!

Dr. Blankenship is one of the best professors I've had at Highlands. Although he is a tough grader and very particular, he gives you all of the tools you need to be successful and is very clear. His lectures are great and you will not be bored.

Professor Blankenship helped me to realize I LOVE history. His lectures are so informative and interesting, and the assignments require critical thinking and really get your brain operating on a higher level. I thought I didn't like him at first but I turned out to really be fond of his class and the way he teaches. Definitely recommend.

Blankenship's 2111 class requires you to read one chapter of an online textbook each week and to take two quizzes on it. His lectures are outstanding and his feedback even more so. I would definitely recommend that any person interested in pursuing a history degree look into his class.

Love his class. If your not i to history you may not care for the class but he has helped me row my love for history. His lectures are harder but make sense. HE is an interesting teacher and always has a story or movie clip to go with the lecture for the day.

You must take very good, detailed notes for his quizzes and exams. The reflection papers are also worth a good bit and as long as you follow the outline and explain yourself, you should be good.

Dr. Blankenship's classes are dependent on his lectures. However, he teaches in a way that is not boring and keeps you interested. There are a few quizzes that aren't too difficult and several Reflections that are one page and require some research. I wish I could have him for all of my history classes and highly recommend this polished professor!

At first, Blankenship seems intimidating. He really isn't, although he can be standoffish. He is always willing to give feedback/correction, and often adjusted assignments that the class did overwhelmingly poorly on. Lectures always interesting; was never bored in class. He invests in his students, and if you put in the work, he will recognize it.

Dr. Blankenship's classes are the best classes that I have ever taken. I've had him for Hist. 1111, 1112, 2111, & 2112. Very passionate about history and this is reflected in his lectures, which are amazing. He definitely keeps his classes interesting. Work hard and you will receive an A. He normally provides the opportunity for some extra credit.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class, I never enjoyed history until taking his class. The tests come straight from his lectures, they are take home, however you can't find anything on google. He inspires you to take learn through lots of imagery and films which make the course interesting. Don't take this class if you aren't prepared to learn.

Class grade is based mostly off of map quizzes, reflections (1 page essays that answer the context, significance, audience, purpose, and credibility of a primary source), and two tests. It's to your advantage to attend every class, as his notes are crucial to passing the tests. Tests were take home.

He has 4 map quizzes at the beginning of the semester, 4 context and significance quizzes that are fairly easy if you take good notes, (I recommended recording his lectures), 2 test, & 6 reflections. He is an amazing lecturer, but has no textbook and no PowerPoints so you have to keep up and attend class!

I had him for Hist 1101 for a maymester. I really liked they way he lectured, he is very good with making sure you understand something if you are not getting it. WARNING: He is very big on plagiarising because one of my friends had a sentence that he felt like was plagiarized and he gave her a 0 with no discussion.

He's an amazing professor with good lectures I never got bored in class. He has 4 map quizzes, 15 online quizzes over a document he chooses, 6 reflections, & a midterm and a final that are take home. I highly recommend you stay on top of all the quizzes as they are easy 100s whereas the reflections not so much.

Professor Blankenship is a great teacher, you will be taking a lot of notes and typing some reflections. (easy part) He gives few quizzes but the ones that he does give they count hard core!! but yeah, he is a great teacher would for sure take his class again!

Took his online course. Very easy course All assignment accessible from day 1, good for me, because I could get ahead earlier in the semester.

I would definitely take this professor again. There is no textbook and very little reading in the class.

As long as you go to class and take notes on what he says you will pass. He gives you the answers for context quizzes and you will do fine if you just pay attention. The grading criteria for the reflections is laid at for you and the final and midterm or take home.

He is really funny during class. Be prepared for lots of weird videos. Most of the grades come from reflections. Be opinionated in the reflections and go with an interesting POV; he likes to hear what you think. Pay attention to his lectures anytime he says CONTEXT & SIGNIFICANCE. All of his tests and quizzes revolve heavily around those terms.

Took Dr. Blankenship through ecore. He organized the material very well. He made it clear from the beginning what was expected. The mid term was proctored but he allowed us to use a 5x8 index card for notes. The final had alot of questions from the previous quizzes.

Took class online over summer. Very understanding. Expects exceptional work on writing assignments, but will proofread them ahead of time so students can revise. Test questions could be ambiguous but if you explain why you answered a wrong question, he often gives credit for critical thinking. Dont hesitate to email him. Hes prompt to respond.

i ENJOY coming to his class (8am) and hearing what lectures he has for the day. he pushes his students to think outside of the box and doesnt accept "surface level" work. i really wish all my professors were this passionate about their work and making a difference in students lives! i hope whenever i become a teacher i have the same impact !

Dr. Blankenship was a excellent professor, he is tough but he really makes you work for the grade you think you deserve. He really wants you to learn and understand the material. He will not accept half effort work, he can definitely tell if you did something last minute. I would recommend him if you're looking for a bit of a challenge!

Absolutely adore Dr. Blankenship, BUT you must participate. You cannot take his work lightly. YOU WILL NOT PASS IF YOU DO. Amazing lectures, funny person. He will give you lead way if you just participate and engage. Respect is given when respect is earned.

I've taken him for two classes at GHC and they were both pretty hard. His lectures are really entertaining even when the material is dense. If you get a bad grade on an assignment he may offer to discuss it with you, in which case he might add some extra points. He can come off as kinda rude when talking to him but he really is a good professor.

Be ready to write. He is tough but fair. He does expect you to do assigments early but do not go overbord in finding sources. I would love to tale more of his classes but dont need them for my major. Remember the movie clips as they are on the test.

I liked his social science conspiracy theories class. He's not difficult, but he is not very personable.

If an irish coffee was a person, it would be Blankenship. Kinda grumpy and controversial but funny. Likes his students to think for themselves and not just repeat the opinions of others. A decent amount of essays and you wanna be good at them, but he will help anyone brave enough to ask. Accessible outside of class and prompt grader.

I took hist2111 online. Pretty easy class. There were 4 writing assignments based on reading an excerpt and weekly quizzes on other excerpts. All modules are open and you are encouraged to work ahead. Midterm and finals are not proctored. I enjoyed this class as much as one can. He also offered an extra credit to audit his class.

Controversial lectures, class time was enjoyable and funny, but could be offensive for some students. Weekly quizzes were confusing and unrelated to the video lectures. Even with watching the videos, you can fail every quiz. Be specific when doing reflections and they are easy. Extra credit was given at the end of the semester, and easy to complete
