Bogart specifically said he has "ten year" so he seemed untouchable when it came to complaints. His tests were killer and barely anyone got good grades, let alone passed. He did offer the option of pass/fail after the option had expired with re

An excellent teacher!
My favorite teacher at SCC. His tests are tough, very thorough. He forces you to know the concepts. Good humour, very nice guy. You'll have to work hard, but you'll come away with an appreciation for the subject. Not easy, but you'll learn.
ok teacher but he dosn't seem to grade fair at all. It seems he looks for anything he can to mark you down for, even things as silly as not using a period or complete sentences for word problems. I would not recomend taking any of his courses. hard grader
This guy is brutal. Looks for students to pick on. Was unkind to me and didn't utilize any teaching skills. I have been a 3.4 student for some time. It takes a .7 to pass his class and he taught so well that I received a 0.0. I wouldn't choose him again.
Why didn't he give me the pass fail option BEFORE the option expired? This man is a VERY VERY unreasonable grader and hes not that good. Maybe its Shorelines fault.Ive gotten no less than 3.6 in SIX OTHER math classes. They need to talk to him re:standa
If he was a good teacher and an easy to get along with guy I might understand the tough grading. But I got nothing out of it, did badly and I always do well at Math and Physics courses. Come on, Bogart, you've got to at least make the students want to come to class. Math is tough, but this????
no help what so ever and showed no intrest in the subject and the students

My grade wasn't given 2 me! I worked for it! For those who said he wasn't clear, MAYBE you should hav askd more ?s! I dont think he likd me much, cuz I talk a lot, but I still got a good grade(3.5+), cuz I askd ?s and participatd. He's a tough grader but if you do the work & kno the material, ur ok.
ok can somebody please say weirdo!!! I love math but he makes you dread class...freakish comments that only he laughs at. about the grading though! it's unreal. Do not take him, you WILL regret it. : )
The hardest 100 level math class you will take just because of his lack of teaching skill. Never slept so much in class and not missed a thing.
yeah he's a weirdo but at least hes interesting to watch and funny sometimes. the preview questions SUCK though and i don't think they're fair but his presentation is good because he makes sence and explaines things good.
He's a good teacher and I learned a lot in class. He would always drink snapple. If we had any questions he would go over them in class, and if we ran out of time in class he would give us the option to schedule a appointment to go over it.
He does drink Snapple every day. He has a really weird sense of humor but if you get on his good side he is a good professor.

put it this way; He is like a robat and doesn't care whether u understand the concepts or not
are these comments for real? I thought Bogart was a very good teacher. I don't usually care for math, but his class was never boring, and I actually found some enjoyment in his lessons. I got a good grade from him, because I worked for it. He's not going t

Humphrey he ain't. Weird sense of humor, boring class, hard grader, not very good looking guy either. I'll give him that he's smart, and is okay for help during office hours. Otherwise....

He did't have a "weird" sense of humor, he just actually HAD one, which is odd for a math teacher. Entertaining man. As far as teaching goes: He took every concept back to the basics to make them perfectly clear, was very easy to understand, EXPLAINED everything, and he clearly knew the subject very well. Very helpful, great teacher.

very wierd guy, paints his fingers black or red. really scary guy. hard grader, takes off too many points.I don't reconmend taking his class.
I have to admit that he is a good teacher. He explained the materials clearly, and always available to help students in & out of the classroom. However, the grading is very stingy. He took off scores like crazy; even a very small mistake could result in a very horrible score. Not recommended if you want to get good final GPA.
The sad things of taking his class is that you understand the materials (since he teaches well), but you don't get decent GPA (since he is a horrible grader). Many of my friends have to retake the class since he likes FAILING students and giving them only about 2.0. I don't recommend taking his class AT ALL...
very nice person. can explain CERTAIN topics very clearly. likes to solve math the "bogart" way...i didnt like that because there was no clear logic behind what he was doing. 126 is supposed to be very easy other than the series section.totally wrong.made everything so complicated and took off a lot of points even if you made the littlest mistake.
Put it this way I'd rather have HUMPHREY Bogart teaching me maths.
I think he is a good teacher, but I hate the way he grades on student's test. HE TOOK A LOT OF POINTSSSSSSS... crazy... NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS, I get 4.0 and 3.8 in another math class but when I feel confident taking his class, I just got a really bad grade.... BECAUSE HE TOOK MANY POINTS OF for a extremely SMALL MISTAKEEEEEEEEE..... I HATEEEE IT!!!!
Taking 6 out 0f 20 points off just because he wanted the students to round up at the end of the calculation. Hey jerkkkk! You had not told us before we did the quiz, how did we know what you wanted! Taking tough teacher is fine but dont take him because not only he is hard, but he is also an unfair grader. Dont say I haven't reminded you!
Well he always tell jokes during class.....But he has a lot of class work to do tho...Personally I don't like class works. If you are going to take pre-cal or calculus. Seriously, Plx choose another prof. if you have choices
The worst math professor I've had
His class is so fun. Actually, the professor is very helpful, and he always cares about his students whether they understand Stats or not. Go to his office if you don't understand. As for the tests, he gives points if your answers are reasonable. This class is very difficult even if other professors teach. All you need to do is that do your best.

really cool guy. the lectures are entertaining.
I took his class online (STAT), and if you don't pass the ONE and only test he gives during the quarter he gives you a ZERO in the class. The class average on the final was 63%... huh? What is wrong with this picture? I am extremely disappointed in this professor and will never take him again if I can help it.
Worst teacher ever! Didnt explain well, loves to post the grades late(until the end of the quarter), very hard to get full score. HE IS USELESS!
Good teacher, but his grading and explanations not really clear
Do yourself a favor and take someone else.
He teaches material that seems straightforward, but when you get to the quizzes and exams, you find they are mostly full of curveball questions, and it feels hopeless bc you work so hard during the quarter only to get tested on tricky questions. It never feels good to leave an exam feeling like your teacher was TRYING to trick you.
He is a great teacher.
He is an awesome old teacher. He is funny. He makes sure that you understand his materials well. His tests are easy. You don't need to read the book. His lectures are boring sometimes. However, if you attend about 75% of lectures, you will do fine.
Homework is not collected, so you can decide for yourself if this will work for or against you. Also, the tests are really hard.
If you are GREAT at math, take him. If not, even if you do ALL of the homework, study for test, get a tutor, you will most likely get a grade that will LOWER your GPA. His class is not straightforward. I do not rec him.
He is a great teacher! I love Maths because of him!
This guy assigns an insane amount of work for his online only class (which apparently moves at twice the speed of his onsite class). He does not collect homework so you can't get any idea of how he wants to see answers presented to him. Onsite evening exams (beware if you've an early AM class). His grading style seems arbitrary and mood based.
27 chapters in 9 weeks! Are you kidding me! Two tests a week, doesn't collect homework, the only help he gives is to figure stuff out using a calculator. Not recommended at all!!!!!
Despite of mixed comments, I liked his class. There was a lot of homework every week (really a lot). He might be a hard grader; however, as long as you're prepared to work hard and complete all assignments including extra-credit homework, you'll get 'A' from his class. I recommend the lecture class(not online) if you decide to take his class.
I'm not sure what all the negative comments are about, because I thought Steve Bogart did a great job teaching this class (Intro to Statistics). His lectures were clear, he answered questions well, and his tests were straightforward and fair. I am enrolled in another math class now and I wish my prof could teach half as well as Bogie does!

He is really cute and helpful! He gave us 5 more points when we did the midterm not as good as he expected. He is really really funny. I love his hair so much. i dont knot how those against comments came out. I think all of my classmates like him very much. He explains answers clearly if you ask him. All in all, we all like him. Great teacher!!
Anyone who actually wants to understand what they're learning will do well with Steve. He has a quirky sense of humor that some people will not be sophisticated enough to appreciate. Go to office hours, do your homework, participate in class and you'll get a good education and a good friend. Quit whining!!!
Please do not consider those comments. He is rating for himself.
I told him @ the beginning of the qtr not to have tricky exams like I read that he did from RMP. He did it anyway. He's helpful/funny, it doesn't change the fact that he's tricky & the problems sometimes don't seem straight forward even when you do the reviews he's given. A calc 2 student had trouble helping me on a problem too, yes, that tricky.
I took this class in person from Counihan and am so glad I did. My friend took this class online from "Bogie", and I felt so bad for her! I've taken high level math classes at UW & had to retake this class - I've never seen so much math hw before EVER, & this is 107?! Avoid him & this class online, it's not worth the stress & work! "Happy Day!"
I enjoyed his class a lot. Very interesting & funny guy. Wished that I could have given myself more effort to fully understand course material. Lots of HW, but it pays off big time to do them. Exams are straight forward. Some take home mini projects (not too hard) and some in-class group work. Took it in evening after 8hr work = BAD CHOICE for me.
Worse professor ever. He is possibly the rudest human being ever to exist on this planet. I do not hate people, but I can say I hate him. He is condescending, makes inappropriate jokes and doesn't help you when you don't understand the material. I have been in many math classes at a few colleges and have never been in this situation. Do not take hi
I thought he was pretty great. Definitely a challenging tester, but I really felt prepared for calculus after his class. He gives more opportunities for grading redemption (such as dropping a lowest quiz score) than some of the other instructors at SCC. Super engaging guy. He's kind of like if Dr. Who was a math teacher.
I took his class and he always make silly jokes. He gives opportunities to the student. (i.e. Giving two midterm exams and choose which grade you would like to take). Even though he gives 1 easy test and 1 hard test. Usually you will get +5 on hard test.
Mr Bogart is a great teacher, I think. He is really helpful and funny. I've found his teaching style really interesting because he tells a lot of interesting stories about real life, but somehow they always have connections with his lessons. He is also an easy teacher who gives you chance to choose your higher grade.
He is a great teacher. He doesn't rely on the book but instead makes it so that if you take notes you don't need the book. He explains everything greatly and very funny. I enjoyed his class and am taking 142 next quarter.
I like him even though the test are challenging.
Mr. Bogart is a fine teacher but maybe not to those without strong math skills. I have done around half the homework and am averaging 91% on the tests/quizes near the end of the quarter; this is not taking into account that he will let us drop our two lowest quiz grades. Just ask questions whenever you don't understand something.
I came to class 10% of the time. Good teacher, wish i had taken advantage of the class
I earned As in all my other SCC math classes. I did not earn one from him. I personally did not like his style and I was not alone. He does not explain things clearly and he make things way harder than he needs to.
Although I genuinely like him, I wouldn't recommend this class unless you do well in math or have sufficient math skills already. Worked very hard, got a tutor, & asked lots of questions, but still found his tests very difficult. They're NOT straight forward and I didn't feel prepared to succeed. He finds joy in difficulty. Take if you want to WORK!
Class was 90% long awkward pauses. Don't take it if you are looking for an engaging math class.
Bogart is definitely a cool person. He connects with the students and keeps in contact sometimes after the class ends. However he is not a very good teacher. He's not very clear in his explanations, the tests are impossible, and he doesn't really know how to control his students during class. I don't think I would recommend him.
Bogart is a wonderful teacher, and genuinely cares about his students. As long as you do the homework and show that you are trying, he will do his best to make you have the grade you want.
Despite the cigarette in the eye for turning homework in late, he's actually not half bad at teaching. Seriously though, if you want a teacher who can show you a deeper understanding of the math you're learning, then Steve's your man. He's fun to have conversations with and he's always willing to help a student better understand the material.
This guy is amazing. The material was easy but he made the test so freaking difficult and graded so freaking haphazardly that no mortal human could make more than a C - This guy is on some type of power-trip or something. This come from someone who had made 'A' in Chemistry, Biology and Calculus - Happy Day _ not
If you have any reasonable sense of self preservation avoid him. Perhaps the worst academic experience. Even if you do the problems correctly he finds some reason to mark them wrong.
I actually really enjoyed this teacher! His lectures were informative enough that I didn't need to read the book. His grading IS harsh, and seems random. Still, I found him entertaining, and the fact that he posts his whiteboard notes online is really helpful if you miss class. If you find yourself struggling, study a little extra!
Keep chatting wif student but not teaching. His marking is super confusing.
Keep chatting with students in random topic but not teaching. Content is confusing in tests. Marking is strict.
He was the most awful teacher I ever had. He grades test harshly and is NOT understanding at all, he makes you feel stupid when you ask questions, like you should already know the answer. Everyone I talk to at SCC won't take him, he writes good reviews on here because he's a crazy person. Worse teacher at Shoreline.
He is beyond HARD in grading! Any type of tests is extremely hard and you can not use any notes or calculator. The only thing is good about this class is he takes pics of the class works and post it on canvas.
Bogart misses the point. He could be a good teacher if he thought how to be clear, fair. He explained well to me 1-1. But he's obsessed with something else in front of class.I haven't met a man more transparent than Bogart about wanting to be liked, from clothes, style to goofy language. He could actually be liked if he was normal and taught well.
Steve is an enigmatic and eccentric individual with an unmatched passion for mathematics and star-trek neckties. I had the generous fortune to take Linear Algebra and Vector Calculus with Steve, who did a splendid job explaining some of the more nuanced ideas behind them. I'm guessing the people who rated him low would have failed anyways.
Lectures are, to be completely honest, confusing! He also uses examples straight from the book, and the book (Stewart) is illogical. The amount of hw problems is intense. I ask questions but "thats just how we do it" doesn't really explain calc. We had 1 midterm in 2 parts, and no partial points on the 1st part. Only take if you already know calc
Bogart makes calc more difficult than it already is. No partial credit on parts of the midterm, very very harsh grader, and makes you feel stupid when asking questions. Don't take his class if you have any ounce of sanity in you, I wish I had read these reviews instead of having to learning the hard way. So save yourselves if you can
Mr. Bogart is the best math teacher I've ever had. He teaches the content well, and cracks great math jokes right in the middle of the lecture. Grading on quizzes and exams is tough, so watch your limit signs, your "x"'s, and any other notation you might be tempted to leave out. Don't stay up 'til 2:30AM on homework, like I did once, though...
He is a really nice teacher with easy grading!
One thing that makes the final exam harder than homework and quizzes is that the problems are mixed up and you arent told the chapter or topic for each problem. To ensure that all students passing Math 107 can demonstrate minimum competency, if you do not score at least 50% on the final exam, your maximum course grade will be 1.4 (D+).
I can't say that I like him, but he is a great lecturer. Read the book before coming to class, and he will explain to you why the equation is written that way. Also some of his weird stories are really important. He includes his lectures in some of those, so pay attention. And work hard. Really hard.
Do not take a class with him if you struggle with math. He is clearly very intelligent but he explains things poorly, he wastes class time telling bad jokes, stories and talking to other students about unrelated topics. He is also not good at teaching hybrid classes, and the material is all over the place and confusing. You're better off avoiding.
He teaches less than 1/2 of the content you need to know in class, and expects students to be able to figure out the rest themselves. This would normally be OK, except he doesn't make clear objectives of what we should be learning out of class. Assigns long homework assignments without explaining material within. Also wastes a lot of in-class time.
U should study hard (e.g. spend at least 0.51.0 hours per day reviewing). Also, his quizzes are important (30% of grade) There are several important concepts he mentioned, listen carefully. Actually, he's not tough, u only need to spend time working out, then u r okay, and 4.0 is not impossible to get.
Hard class
Don't take his class, at least for your calculus. He really requires you to work hard; homework has application-based problems, quizzes require not just your understanding on one particular concept but your overall math skills as well. Midterm exams are easier than quizzes, though. Lectures ok, but sometimes it can be boring and out-of-topic.
Steve is a great teacher and a fun person. He usually assigns a larger amount of homework, but with Calculus there never too many examples and situations to cover. If you take his classes, you will be working a lot but you will learn a lot and will prepare you better for the following classes. Ask him about what he thinks of the moon landing ;)
Really good at teaching and wants to help his students. Definitely a hard class, but he knows he's a hard grader so he lowers his grading scale to make it easier to get a better grade.
He's a great teacher and a person but when it comes to assignments he expects his class to figure out by their selves.
This guy just loves to see you having a hard time. Quizzes are hard and worth a lot, also finals worth too high.
Took his class last year but I could not hold it. One day I brought him a problem (because he did not explain it clearly in class) and he ended up telling me to read and figure out the entire chapter MYSELF!! I don't see the logic as he was supposed to be THE teacher. Bad as a teacher and worse as a person. I am sure every other professor is better
Don't do it. Miss a single class and you lose too many points. Extremely hard grader. Belittle's you in office hours. He knows his subject but has no idea how to actually teach it. If you look at every positive review here, each one has 19+ thumbs down. Take someone else you wont regret it.
I loved this class. If you're self-motivated and willing to put in the effort, you'll do well. So much reading/videos/practice! Well-paced and he actually participates in discussions. Fast grader, always responded to emails/posts promptly. Makes you learn/figure it out for yourself. Encourages deeper understanding. So sad I cannot take him again!
He had a tough quarter due to person things going on but he was very transparent and honest with the class. He is overall a really great teacher who really cares about his students. Do the work and you will be fine!
He shows up as a caring person at first. Dont be blind after that, you need to be careful with this one. Took his online class, got accused for cheating while doing the Quiz that answer only type & in Written HW which he never teach us how to do it so its normal to find some help in order to do it. End up having a 0.0 score. Worse teacher ever.
Good teacher but youll need a tutor if doing online.
I was hesitant to take his class due to his score here, but I'm so glad I did. I get really bad math anxiety, and this was the first time I had ever been able to feel confident and succeed at math. You can tell he truly wants every student to succeed, and as long you communicate with him, he will try his best to help you make it through his class.
One thing I want to let you know, if you are taking online, is that there is no video lecture created by the instructor except the welcome msg. He shares lots of youtube links tho. Lots of reading, videos, but there is no constructive instructions that tie things together. And it was confusing and hard to catch up. This class will not motivate you.
This course has a heavy course load that's not engaging outside of the routine discussions, which have an extensive amount of work given to the student. He has a habit of assigning additional work to students in discussion posts depending on his mood it seems like. This class wasn't as difficult as I thought, but it was tedious and annoying.
No lecture for Steve's online class, the only way to study is by reading the textbook and watch some videos provided. Textbook is free. Easy 4.0 if you do the weekly discussion, homework, and quiz. No exam for finals, you only need to do a project.
Took Bogart for Math 107 and so far the class has been super easy. Bogart assigns quizzes once a week, discussions and WAMAP but they are all pretty simple. If you struggle in the WAMAP homework then just watch the video it provides you, for discussions he will give you amazing feedback and gives you a day to fix it. Amazing professor!
Steve Bogart is a sweet and caring teacher, I took the course online and he gave me good feedback, he also dropped some of our lowest grades because he knew that the students were stressed before the exams started. There is a moderate amount of homework but as long you get it done, you are good. He also helps you whenever you need it. 9/10 teacher
Steve was very flexible with assignment due dates. He was awesome!
Yo this man is a joke , took his online class and all of the lectures are YouTube videos made by the others except the first welcome video in week 1 is made by him. What's the purpose of paying money and took his class ?
To be honest, as a student who work really hard in Math, this class wasn't worth the effort that I have paid in it -Lecture didn't support the WAMAP exercise -Professor is talking to air , responding to air -Rate assignments work with random mood -Unclear instruction -Lots of discussions assignment but one team doing totally different questions
He was caring and understanding. He made lecture videos and it make it easy to follow. He adjusted grading scale based on class performance or changed the amount of assignments. It allows you to do well if you do all homework which is all you need to practice and learn. The exam is 2 and very similar to homework. Do well on homework, discussion.
Professor Bogart's class was a mixed bag. The lectures were lacking, but the feedback on discussions was great. Unstuck ai helped me prep for quizzes and stay on top of the workload. Overall, it was a decent class if you put in the effort.
Prof. Steve was a fantastic teacher. His communication was excellent throughout the class. I was scared of taking a math class for the first time in a while, but he does an amazing job of making students feel comfortable with the math. ALWAYS reach out if you need help, he explains concepts easily and has great communication timing.
This professor was respectful, clear in his expectations, and quick to respond to questions. His feedback was detailed and fair, which made a big difference. I was nervous about taking Math 146 with Support online, but his approach made the class enjoyable and helped me feel confident.
