disdainful, argumentative, unsympathetic, dictorial
He is a fun teacher to talk with, and to learn from
hard work but worth it
His classes are soo cool, more like taking with friends than class
He is a really good teacher and a great guy!
He is a tough professor but really gets you thinking - worth the hard work!
the most caring prof. I've met at Elon, honestly concerned about his students
This is one of the teachers that can change your life! Take his class if you can. It is well worth the work. You will come back a changed person for the better.
If you have a problem with Steve, what's really going on is that you have a problem with yourself. He brings out the best in others, is more than supportive and compassionate. He is the best professor I have ever had. Words do not do him justice.
Wonderful professor who will challenge your mind and spirit! Worth the work!
Great guy but tons of work. He'll get you to think really hard. You have to work for an A but he's awesome. Class may be boring so don't take at 8 am.
Great teacher! Very interesting...all you freshman would benefit immensely from his class, he is a lot of fun and really knowledgable. Only downside is there is a bit of work to be done, but do it anyway!
One of the best teachers you will ever have at any level. Great coursework, but even better individual professor. Extremely helpful, personable, and eager. Will assist with anything. Instrumental in my transition to college.
steve is such a great guy, he does not make an 8 oclock boring. discussions are great, he knows everyone's names and in turn makes sure the students do. he is such a nice guy and a great teacher!!! take his class!
Lots of papers, but no test nor quizzes.
this was definitely one of the best classes of my freshman year. steve made it so fun, and he really takes an interest in his students. there is a lot of reading but in the end it all pays off. you get to know the class well too, its really great!!
I was truly bored throughout his class, Steve's a nice guy but I honestly could have done without him trying to change my life every class
Steve is the most increadible professor/humanitarian you will ever meet in your academic lifetime. Years after leaving Elon he still keeps intouch and inspires me to learn and do well from beyond the brick walls of Elon.
one of my fave profs at elon! i highly recommend taking his classes!!! i saw him 3 years after graduation, and even though i only had him for one class my first semester @ elon he recognized me and said hi before i realized it was him. a great professor
I loved my classes with Professor Braye! He was fantastic!
aww i loooove steve. he's such a nice man. while we do get an excessive amount of cult events (but they're easy to write up) and lots of reading, its not that bad. class is def enjoyable... and he brings his kids in occasionally :)
Steve's my advisor (thru Elon 101) for now and I really like him. He's fun and he didn't make us do all the boring work other Elon 101s had to do.
Steve is awesome! I highly suggest his class. You have to do ten cultural events but it is really easy. You will learn a lot in the class but you are going to have to put some effort into it. I think it is the best class I've taken here at Elon and it really applies to all the courses that you will take in your college career.
great teacher! makes topics super interesting!
Was great and interesting, loved discussion, and a fun guy. I didn't do well, because of the cultural event requirement, but that was my fault. He's a good guy.

He is an interesting guy but he asks a lot of reading from his students. He challenges your views without revealing his which some people liked but I found really annoying. SOme times it feels like he is accosting you. THe books were interesting but there was nt enough time to finish most of them.
We love Steve Braye! His course is challenging and thought provoking. There is a lot of reading at times, but he makes learning fun.
The class is interesting and you do learn a lot but he talks SO MUCH! It gets a little dry at times to especially if you have him at 8. He also doesnt have notes, he just writes words up on the board which is annoying at times. But all in all good class. Books were interesting, homework was not difficult, and he is extremely friendly. Get him.
In finishing up my first semester of my freshman year, I can say that this has been my favorite class. Steve is friendly, helpful, and has a good sense of humor. He genuinely cares about his students. Lots of reading, but all very interesting. Class is very thought-provoking & engaging, mostly discussion-based. You will get a lot out of this class!
Seriously the best professor I've had so far. It's a LOT of work, but it's not superfluous. Class discussions were always interesting. Steve is always helpful. Sometimes assignments are a bit fuzzy, but he doesn't grade hard so it doesn't matter. I LOVED this class; it was by far my favorite. If you can, take a class with him.
Had him for honors global. He definitely gives you a tone of reading assignments and short papers but challenges you to question the world and yourself in the process. Most worthwhile class ever taken.
If you want to take global seriously and actually learn about other cultures and perspectives and stuff, braye is the man. If youre trying to take global and get it done with like 90% of the freshman at elon, you should look for someone else. I heard of way too many friends with global classes that did hardly anything, while I had a paper, maybe
GET OUT NOW! The first week of class seems fine, its a trick! Assigned a new paper after each class with often 100 pages of reading also. Hard grader, and did not grade or give any feedback even once until after midterm, which was to late to drop. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE WASTE OF TIME! Btw I have have a 3.9 GPA.
Braye is the best. There's a lot of reading and writing, but the class itself is mainly discussion oriented, and he does not grade harshly. He really got me to think. I learned a lot and the class, though hard, was definitely worthwhile. He is also very friendly.. one of those professors who will say hi to you even after the class is over.
Its definitely a hard class but SO worth it! Braye is such a great professor and is very helpful. You can tell he loves what he is doing. You should totally take Braye before you leave Elon. Hes is a WONDERFUL prof! Loved the class.
If you can take a class with him, do it. I wish I were majoring in English just to have him again down the road. He's intelligent, funny, and actually reaches out to his students - the kind of teacher that Elon promises to have. He will make you work, but he will help you along the way.
Extraordinarily dedicated to his students. Very appreciative of all comments and one of the friendliest profs at Elon. Only drawback is that he sometimes makes up facts to go along with generalizations, and the material is so big-picture he neglects specific examples. That being said, have lunch with the man! He loves seeing his students!
Doesn't give great feedback. Often overassigns work. Generally in classes, you get his style or you don't. Hard to improve. Informal papers are heavily assigned. Outside of the classroom, he is absolutely wonderful. Most caring professor at Elon. Supportive and keeps in touch. His class time is definitely worth the relationship afterwards.
A tough teacher to start freshman year with. Lots of reading, lots of writing, and little to no feedback. Interesting class, but it's simply discussion everyday, no in class work. Learned a lot, but was very hard, and was frustrating to never know exactly how well you were doing.
One of the best teachers ive ever had. Makes you understand the work instead of just getting credit for it. discussion based teaching style andhelps for a great term paper. a lot of reading and papers, but definitely worth the knowledge you get from everything! He persuaded me to double major in elementary ed and inter relations and minor in anthro
Braye is an amazing guy, and I would definitely recommend getting to know him as a person. His class was pretty difficult, as he expects a lot of reading between classes, and often a paper with it. For the Honors section, he had 160 pages of reading and a two page paper due for the second class. Discussions can be dry, but it is still a good class.
Steve was my professor back in the early 90's. He was awesome then, and he is awesome now! I am a better educator because of his influence!!
Fair amount of work for an Honors level class. Very nice guy! He hosts an end of year party at his house for students. Fair grader. Definitely someone you will want to know.
The best teacher one could hope for
Steve is always there for you, and he has a more casual relationship with students which makes it really easy to reach out to him for recommendation letters or just aid with papers. Love drafts, because it allows you to really write the best paper you can. I usually don't like English, but I loved going to his class everyday.
Steve Braye (aka Steve Bae) has literally made my first semester! Expect LOTS of reading (up to a book a week), but you will not find a better teacher who cares more about you and your work. He inspired me to the point where I turned my last essay into a research paper with potential publication as a FRESHMAN. Lots of work but totally worth it.
Steve Braye is one of the best professors you will ever have. Don't stress too much about your grade... I probably could have failed that class and not have regretted taking it for a second because he is such a phenomenal professor. Much love for Steve Bae.
Steve Braye is such a nice man, and I really enjoyed him as a person. However, I found his lectures to be bland, and he is a very tough grader. We got a lot of great feedback on papers, but I often felt frustrated because my papers did not seem "good enough" for his standards. You never know what your grade in the class is, which is irritating.
I really enjoyed having class with Steve Braye. He makes you work hard for your grade, but he is accessible outside of class and always wants to help his students. He's overall just such a kind person as well, he offered to carry my backpack back to my building for me when I was on crutches. He's passionate about his job, and cares about students.
Super enthusiastic and engaging professor. Did a great job of condensing theoretical material to make it more accessible to students and to enable students to apply it to theatrical work. LOTS of reading to stay on top of w/ daily reading quizzes, but awesome class. He's always positive and easy to talk to.
Steve Braye is phenomenal. If you're considering taking him for Global I highly recommend him. He will change your life and be very respectful doing it. There is so much that you don't know and he will inform you on it. TAKE THE CLASS! If you're in honors you will always always love Steve
It's hard to tell what exactly Steve Braye grades on, but he's a sweetheart and all the Honors kids love him. Read what you can of the books he assigns, but if you participate in the discussion then the reading itself isn't super important, just be able to talk about something, either the book or just what other people are saying.
Wow, Steve is a really great guy, and a really great professor. He was always prepared to start class with new topics and discussions that you wouldn't usually think of, and it really opened your mind. Such a nice guy, really caring, he just makes you happy! Take a class with Steve!!!
Steve Braye is a great person, and a great teacher. He lectures a lot and assigns a lot of reading, but his global class makes you question everything you know.
Braye is a great global teacher. He talks about a lot of interesting topics seldom addressed in other course. Classes very discussion based, so do/skim the readings the night before and you'll be fine. Big term paper at the end but he helps schedule it out so its really manageable.
Had him for Elon 101 so can't speak much for his regular classes, but he's such a guy, great personality, really funny, the whole class loves him. He's slightly old-fashioned but overall really fun and helpful!
One of the best professors I have had at Elon. There are around 8 writing assignments but they are short and easy trust me! It is so easy to talk about your abroad experience. You do a study abroad stories project and then the final capstone project. If you have gone abroad, TAKE THIS CLASS. Every class is engaging and he makes it so interesting!
Steve is a great guy and is adored by the Honors kids! He's super respectful and really wants to get to know his students personally. He assigns a ton of readings that are sometimes hard to understand, but you can get by in class discussions if you can get the basic ideas. Also, this class is required so make the most of it. STEVE BRAYE IS A KING!
There is quite a bit of reading but I really enjoyed the class. You have 8 writing assignments, a short audio recording of your study abroad experience, the research paper, and then the presentation. It is pretty heavy on writing but it wasn't bad! I love Steve, he is so sweet and a great guy overall.
Steve is an amazing professor. There is a lot of reading and writing but he is not a tough grader. His lectures are always very interesting and touch on topics that aren't often discussed in other courses. He is a great teacher and even better person. He cares about all of his students and is always accessible outside of class. You will love Steve!
A lot of reading. A lot of discussion. A lot of writing. But, these are mostly graded on completion and your effort that you put into your writing. As long as you have a general understanding of what the readings and books are about you should be fine. You will talk a lot about life's unsolved questions and will do self reflection.
Many times it was unclear the objective of the lecture (ie what he wanted us to learn from listening to him). Grading was arbitrary, often students were given no rubric or a very vague outline idea of what was expected. The professor gave the exact same grade to every student (low A) until I asked him to actually read my papers. Worst prof so far.
Put your best foot forward if you have a class with him. It's very possible to succeed; you just have to try very very hard.
Steve gives tons of work and little feedback, but participation will bring up your grade at the end of the semester
Braye has good lectures and respects all points of view. Loves out of the box thinking. Beware of papers, though. He doesn't actually grade homework and assignments and gives everyone the same grade. So frustrating. Final paper assignment was graded a 75 even though the rough draft was an 100. Freak
Steve is super sweet. He takes feedback from students really seriously and is very approachable. COR with him is a lot of work with little feedback from him, though. He generally gives everyone the same low A, which I thought was great but some people were annoyed by. The final project is pretty fun and he gives you a lot of freedom.
He gives homework every class and is very lecture heavy. He is extremely passionate about the topics he teaches about, be ready to participate. He's a sweet guy and cares about each student. He loves new opinions and thoughts so don't be afraid to share.
Such a nice teacher and genuinely cares about his students. Can't go wrong with Steve.
Interesting class. A lot of reading. Do not get intimitaded by the start, for some reason he goes much harder the first few classes. Nice guy. If this is his last time teaching COR for honors then that is a shame.
really nice guy. classes are very lecture heavy. a lot of writing, he's a little disorganized online. the Moodle page is super unorganized, but overall I would take again. grades somewhat hard but not bad.
I loved this class. He is a really good teacher and knows the topics he's teaching very well. If you turn in your assignments on time, then you'll have no problem in this class. There were only a few presentation and projects but the class is mostly reading and writing. He is really good at giving feedback and answering emails.
The professor created an interesting course allowing students to explore various aspects of the world. Many of the lectures were interesting. However despite all the work you put in to writing assignments, he will consistently grade you at a low A or B no matter the quality of work. No clear expectations even after communication. Steer clear.
A complete Jekyll and Hyde situation. A switcheroo, if you will. Professor seems communicative and competent at the introduction of the course, however you will soon realize his words mean nothing. Consistently gave low A's no matter the quality of writing or work put into the paper. Clearly does not understand his actions have consequences.
Prof. Braye is very nice, but he talks at you more than anything. He also makes weird, condescending or ignorant remarks from time to time. I barely learned anything in this class, and I dreaded going because of him.
he's really nice and this class was genuinely helpful for learning about how to adjust to elon and college in general
Gives you the same A-/B+ grade no matter how much effort you put into the assignment, extremely vague/broad topics with no clear rubric, doesn't give feedback. Not forgiving towards students who aren't brilliant writers even when you answer the question correctly. Each class feels like it's planned 15 minutes before with no knowledge of the topic.
LOTS of reading & writing, grades randomly between 87-92, graded on completion=90%. Refuses to give feedback. Lectures were bigoted, off-topic, & uncomfortably violent. He often used killing his students as an example in class & made statements that seemed sexist & antisemitic. One-sided lectures & only his opinion on every issue, w/ no discussions
Handled his heavy course content insensitively. Has made sexist and racist comments and has repeatedly used killing his students as an example, which was irrelevant and made us uncomfortable. Taught us extensively about Islam while he himself is not Muslim at all. If you are stuck in his class, you'll survive, but avoid if you can. +way too much HW
Professor Braye's classes are long, monotonous, and boring. He gives NO feedback on any of his papers, making it very difficult to improve your writing. He assigns a TON of writing in the first half and a TON of reading in the second. He is insensitive to the words he says not caring about what minorities he hurts. IF YOU CAN SWITCH DONT TAKE STEVE
Skeptical before walking in, but he acknowledged right away that he was not the right person to teach a class about race relations. He was a great teacher regardless. Funny, gives good feedback. Long lectures but work is easy. One of those teachers that doesn't give 100s which is annoying but its so easy to get an A if you put in any sort of effort
Very harsh guy, loves E-reporting his students for the smallest things. Miss one class or miss turning in one assignment on time and he will tell you you are going to fail the class. He brings up killing the students or students parents as examples in result making students very uncomfortable. Lot of work and long lectures.
I love him. He was so encouraging when I was falling behind in class. He is an amazing teacher although he gives a lot of work.
He truly is an amazing professor who loves his students. It is a lot of writing and reading, but it is not a hard class by any means as long as you turn in your work.
He truly is an amazing professor who loves his students. Get ready to do a lot of reading and writing. Maybe the most writing for any class I have taken. His class is not hard by any means as long as you turn in your work on time.
for 1010 hes very nice and helpful outside of class. genuinely wants to make sure you are doing well, love steve
he's good but talks..... a lot
super chill and relaxed professor.
