Can we say EASY! Quizzes are open book and in groups. Pretty laid back. Ask questions and you will learn. Also...somewhat cute as well...(this is coming from a guy...hehehe)
Great instructor, has lots of knowledge in the subject. Test are easy (he disigned them that way to help motivate the class). I sugesst you take this class if you want to have great class participation and contribute to the class.
easy class. cool guy. family man
The Best. Very Interesting Class. Nice man. Great sence of humor. Even if your aren't a psych major, take this class as an elective. Very easy, but interesting and you will learn.
This is the best professor I have had at SJSU. He is very approachable and easy to talk to. Steve cares about his students and how well they do.
He is a great teacher and very helpful. Take his classes, you will do good and learn a lot. He cares for his students and wants them to do well.
Really good teacher. Test is all based on the readings and lecture is from the book. You have to read to get a good grade.

Del Chiaro is AWESOME! The best teacher I've had at SJSU. He actually cares about the students & helps in any way he can. He teaches other classes too...I think Clinical Psych & Personality?
I took psych 165,139,155 and steve is the man. If you have any questions he is there to help you. His tests are fair and gives a review before every test. If i could take more classes from him i would.
Best professor I've ever had!
this professor is awesome. he is nice and easy. he makes the lectures interesting and informative at the same time.
He's a lot of fun...he incorporates outside info into his lecture to make it more relavent. He's funny too, which makes the classes more interesting. I will deffinately take classes from him in the future.
Lectures straight out of the book, which I find boring, although his comedy-acts aren't bad. Although he doesn't provide a lot of extra information outside the book, he does assign lots of easy, but relevant, hands-on projects.
Best teacher at SJSU!! Helpful, nice, and really funny! He really helps you understand the subject. Take him for every psyc class you can!
This guy is great! Really laid back personality, fun class environment, makes it easy to learn course material. His tests can be tricky, mostly because his test reviews are VERY superficial, but if you stay up on the reading you'll do fine. Several no-brainer quizzes throughout the semester, and 2 easy papers. Del Chiaro makes learning psych fun!!!
Does a great job explaining the material and relating it to life situations. Also is a nice piece of eye candy.
He's pretty laid back and lectures straight from the book. Likes in-class group work/quizzes. Really approachable for either help or socializing :) Taking another class with him next semester because he was so cool!
One of the best profs I've ever had. Very laid back yet gets through his lesson with laughs along the way. Gives good reviews before exams. Quizzes were mostly done in groups.
I loved both classes! He's very laid back, easy to talk to, and is a fun guy. Quizzes that are super easy, the exams aren't bad cause he gives a thorough review before, and he makes class fun and interesting. My favorite prof at State!
Best teacher at SJSU...take him whenever you can!! He's helpful and funny!!
Very short attention span. Other than that he's great and very helpful. Goes over the tests and gives study guides, and the 2 projects were not difficult. I would like to take him for psyc 155 too.
I have taken 3 psyc courses from him. What does that tell you? Go to class and do all the assignments. I am not a good test taker but I still get B's because I do good on everything else. I do recommend him!
Great Professor. Has a good style. Class is fun, but lots of work. I would take im again.
He might be the BEST and most influential professor here at SJSU. The reason for this is ..he keeps it real. I guarantee you will leave his class wanting to take mroe classes with him. I basically come to his class because I get to hang out with him. Not only is he a great teacher but he is a very good friend and mentor. If you are a Psych major...
He is a good teacher, he is a really nice guy. His tests are kinda hard but as long as you read the book, take notes in class you will do fine. He is fun to hang out with too .... and he didn't say that stupid "orgasmic quote".
Very funny, easygoing guy, very approachable, fairminded. However, his lectures are very poorly organized and very ill-defined. Sometimes the information he gave was flat-out incorrect, and he did not remember much of his own material. He gives fairly easy tests. For an easy A, take the class, but not if you want to truly master the material.
Great Class. Learned a lot, but a lot of reading. Prof was very helpful.
First of all he is a very nice person and good teacher who cares about his students. He makes even very boring subjects fun to learn.
AMAZING!!!! He is so willing to help you succeed, not just in his class. He is not only a great teacher, but an amazing mentor. I don't even have a class with him next semester but I know I'll be in his office almost everyday. He wants you to learn, and even though he covers a lot of material, he lets you know pretty well what will be on the test.
He is a nice guy, but he is a very bad teacher. He is not organized, and he does not know the material. He is trying to read the notes very fast, and he cannot even provide examples. He frequently uses the phrase "it's just a theory" and that also shows his incompetence regarding to scientific terminology.
The person below has lost it. The only way for Steve to give more of himself to his students would be if he kept a sleeping bag in his office, and never left. He lives for us to succeed. His level of dedication inspires me not just as a student, but as a person. Here's a thought: take some responsibility for your own education!
The course I took with Dr. Steve was designed to ease the college transition for incoming freshamn, and that is exactly what it did. Though I did not get too much learning done in class because of his random-hillarious stories about his boy, I did learn a lot about what it takes to succeed in college. Overall, I enjoyed my semester with Dr. Steve.
The tests are pretty easy if you read the chapters. He pretty much goes over the same things in the reading as he does in class. Sniffy sucks and the folders are a big part of your grade so don't wait till last minute. He is funny and really nice. I would take him again.
go to class, pay attention to lectures, read over key terms in the book. provides study guide for tests to make sure that students are on the right track for. also is open to any and all questions. super understanding and highly approachable.
Nice guy, bad teacher. Gives terrible lectures, and does not enforce due dates. Unfair to students who turn in their work on time. Also does not respond to emails. Spent the majority of lectures talking to certain students in class without spending enough time on the material.
Best class I've taken. He makes the material understandable and relevant. Go to class, keep up on assignments (A LOT OF THEM), read the book and study and you'll do fine.
He is most passionate about his teaching and the level of interest that he puts in creating lectures. The course work seems relevant and he makes it seem like class is interactive and not work.
Exams are mostly based on the book material, so you must read. Fair grader and what a funny guy. YOU MUST TAKE! Dr. Del Chiaro genuinely wants his students to succeed. A+! I'll take him again for my other psych classes! =)
OMG. Awsome teacher. very enthusiastic and is genuinly excited to be there. He is always more then happy to explain things and make the class and assignments fun.
He's awesome-- detailed lectures and lots of good information and support.
hilarious teacher! makes everything very interesting, easy to comprehend notes. tells you exactly whats on the test, just study what he tells you...easyy A. fun class to attend
Dr Del Chiaro is a fantastic teacher. He is passionate about psych, has a wonderful sense of humor, and very clearly identifies requirements to earn a good grade. He is liberal with his office hours and always has time for students. If you read and study you will do very well. He offers some extra credit which could be the difference between A & B
Awesome professor. He is truly the whole package. Funny, smart, interesting and relevant.
AMAZING TEACHER!! he takes an active interest in his students, he even took me to get my tower card! He is very approachable as a person and professor. His class is hilarious, nothing is off limits. You still have to work hard for your grade but he makes it not as grueling. . I would defiantly recommend him.
Dr. Del Chiaro is such a funny guy!!! He's fun, spontaneous, and very helpful. He gives really good examples and makes you want to come to class. You will need the book to study from, journal project isn't hard if you keep up with assisnments all semester. Super understanding, and very accomodating. I would def. recommend taking his class!
Guaranteed to laugh every class period, but don't expect to learn much. Often goes off topic. Exams are a little tricky, but helpful if you attend lectures (throws in questions not from reading sometimes)
I should have never taken the online version. It was his first semester teaching online, he couldn't figure out blackboard, which made it easier on tests but difficult to know your grade. He was flexible on turn in times but seem to lack the ability to keep things posted up to date. I learned almost nothing, but aced the class.
Easy A, BUT does not teach the material very well and goes off topic for most of the class. Really super chummy with his students (quoting Family Guy and "that's what she said" chummy.) Good if you want a new friend, bad if you want a professor or if you really want to learn or gain anything for your academic or future career. Take someone else!
If you want to actually learn the subject, dont take his class. I want to be a clinical psychologist and have learned nothing even though that's the point of taking this class. All he cares about is students like him and being a "funny" teacher. Stay away and take Callaghan!
I am commenting before I get my final grade...totally nervous about that! But I really want to stress what a nice guy he is. He is approachable and genuinely cares for his students. He does teach the material in a peculiar way but I did learn a lot. I just really like him as a person ^_^
This professor is a beast! My favorite of all time. Easy A. We never even touched the book and he was always great in class. Most of the class time we would joke around and talk about life. Greatest class i had a freshmen at SJSU. Made my first semester enjoyable. Honey Bear
Although he's a really nice guy, this professor is more of a comedian than teacher. It seems that he couldn't go 5 minutes without going completely off topic while trying to make some silly joke. I appreciate his chipper attitude, but I learned nothing from this class. I got an A but felt cheated out of my tuition money.
Guy below me said it best. I enjoyed the laughs in the beginning, but after awhile you realize you are learning absolutely nothing. It becomes frustrating. I found tests to be a little difficult because we never spent enough time talking about the material. If you take him, just be ready to learn a lot on your own.
Not sure that the below rater had the same instructor. He was funny, and his "off topic" was a head trick. If you pay attention, his examples and tangents related to the material and he had us think outside the box. Tests were hard, but everything on the test was talked about in class at some point. The paper was actually fun to do but proof read
I felt like all I payed for was a comedy show instead of an education. ALWAYS of topic, one classmate asked if he could get back on track and talk about an actual subject on the test, professor paused and cont. his story, enough said.
Funny, down-to-earth, and keeps it real. Ten take home quizzes, two exams, and a fairly simple paper. Only downside is that he doesn't use slides for his notes and doesn't have them available on line. Otherwise, an entertaining and informative class.
I didn't take his Psych class but a MUSE class, and he is the most easygoing, hilarious teacher ever. True, I really didn't learn much but considering that it was a MUSE class revolving around how to get adjusted to life in college how can you really expect anything else. He genuinely cares about his students and is an easy grader, take him!!
One of the best professors I have had at SJSU. He truly tries to get to know his students & is extremely hilarious. He talks too fast when he lectures so when you do his study guide to study for his exams the book is a lot more helpful! TAKE HIM! I think there are 2 exams & 1 final. One long movie paper. A random quiz here and there.
I LOVE DelChiaro!! He's hilarious! Don't need the book, just show up and take notes. He lets you know what will be on the midterms (2) and final. Sometimes he lacks clarity and goes off topic a lot but he's overall helpful and relatable. Ended up with an A-. TAKE HIM for any psych class.
2 midterms and 1 finals, which he tells you what the questions will be about. 1 paper where you read an article and answer questions (easy!) and 2 article summaries of your choice. The final paper is on any tv show.movie character of your choice, I chose Dexter (another easy A because you're writing about your interests). TAKE HIM. Dont need book!
Steve is more down-to-earth which makes the class hella fun & applicable, yet he managed to maintain the same level of professionalism that makes it informative & insightful. He excels in helping students success academically and in connecting them with other professionals. He might get distracted easily but for me that's what kept me awake:)
Down to earth and funny. The work is easy as long as you attend class. Most of his tests are based on his lectures. He goes off topic a lot but if you can handle that then take his class. I hope to take him for psych 160 or 191.
He's pretty easy. 1 week before exams, he goes over questions that are directly related to each question on the test. Take good notes on the movie Madness. You have 2 writing assignments and 1 big paper. He's okay, but he just tries too hard to be funny. Get the book because he doesn't teach every single thing you need to know.
This class is fantastic. Professor Del Chiaro keeps the class engaged with his kindness and humor. If you cannot appreciate his sense of humor and his relative stories then shame on you. I wish every professor was like him! It is so refreshing to wake up and look forward to class. Exams aren't bad and the information and videos are interesting.
Had this class last semester. It was an extremely early class (7:30) but he wakes you up with his jokes and randomness. He takes the time to get to know and remember each student and always open to questions/concerns/thoughts regarding hw/tests/future goals. If you take good notes, pay attention and study, you will do well.
Dr. Del Chiaro is a great professor. He treats his students respectfully and wants us to learn. His class is extremely interesting because he is a practitioner as well. Also, he is more than willing to help you if you need career advising or academic advising. If you are a psychology major, you must take his class.
Tells you what will be on the test a couple of classes before the test, it's pretty much exactly what is on the test. 1/4 of grade is online quizzes which you get 2 chances on each. 3 tests, final not accumulative. 2 papers, which are pretty easy. He is such a nice guy wants everyone to do well. Go to his office hours if you need help!
Very bad with passing things back. He also goes off track a lot. He is hardly ever I'm his office hours and will not reply to your emails! He also doesn't show up to class without any type of warning or note saying his class is cancelled. I would not recommend this professor
He thinks he is funny and will make plenty of jokes but the truth is he is plain annoying. His jokes are not funny and they do not make sense and often go off topic. He does not reply to any of his emails and is not in his office hours. I thought this class would be amazing but I felt he did not teach whatsoever. I did not learn
I was looking forward to this class until I was actually in it myself.if you take him, pay very close attention in his lectures, his powerpoints are all online but he doesn't show them while lecturing! It's hard when you learn psych and can't spell all the words without seeing them!but he does tell you what will be on the midterms, do well on those
Horrible teacher. Never passed back any of the work the class did throughout the semester. He lectures but doesn't put up the slides during his lecture. He often tries to be funny but he isn't. He is just annoying and he goes off topic. Don't recommend him at all.
Very bad useless professor I do not recomend!
Great professor if you want a teacher that is easy-going, funny, kind and easy to relate to. I don't know why the bad ratings below me, but I recommend. You will have some great laughs and learn some good material. Talk to him personally, he's always willing to help in all areas- career, guidance, help, etc.
Not funny nor helpful. Hardly I'm his office hours and never passes back papers. Overall I do not recommend! He may be a nice guy however as a teacher he needs to be gone
Dr. D is all of the below, He is funny, he is easily thrown off topic, he is very intelligent, AND he has the biggest heart! He is so helpful, he really wants to see his students do well, know what they are going after, and he wants to help in any way he can to make that happen. He is someone to have on your side. Take him, or just talk to him!
Literally the most pointless class/teacher I've ever had in my entire undergraduate career. If you want to actually learn something, definitely avoid this class. He's always late, off topic, and wastes so much class time on random videos. Exams and quizzes are straightforward if you just look over the material. What a waste of my time and money.
Easy class. The lectures were boring, but he had interesting stories to tell. He went off topic a lot. You get the questions of the tests in class so you can study easier. Easy class, take it.
Favorite professor at state. helpful, kind, hilarious...total goofball. if you want to be challenged, he's probably not the best choice but if you want to have a laid back learning experience take him.
Took him for Psyc 1 so I thought i'd take him again for 110. 2 short writing assignments 1 final paper and 3 exams, final is not accumulative. As long as you follow the directions on the assignments you will get full credit. Exams are not too hard usually got a C on them. He posts the slides online and gives out a study guide for the exams.
I came to this class with low expectations but he was probably my fav professor this semester? He had lots of personal examples/stories to tell and down to earth. Him and his assistant make a great team and tell you exactly what needs to be studied for each midterm, final. No homework, weekly quizzes online.
best professor I've ever had. enough said.
Steve is phenomenal. He is approachable, funny, and he really does care about his students. He is willing to help you if you are willing to help yourself. No, he isn't perfect, but neither are his students. Great professor, take him and walk away with some great psyc. knowledge and some fun class times.
He is very funny, and uses great real life examples to make course material easier to understand. He will drift off topic, but when he does pay attention because it is usually a great story. Easy class, fun times, great professor.
Professor Chiaro has a great sense of humor and is easy to talk to. 2 midterm exams, weekly online quizzes, SONA, a final, and a group project. The midterms and final are easy if come to the review day and take notes on the points you need to know. He provides 30 points of ec also, so make sure you do it (easy points). Ended the class with a A+
Professor Del Ciaro makes learning fun!! You will learn about psychology and he will even give you career advise. He is so smart, approachable, and caring. Make sure you attend class for the review day before midterms.
I think there were 2 exams and a final. He has 6 pop quizzes throughout the year but you're allowed to miss 2 I believe. There's a group paper in this class, I ended up writing the whole thing for mines because we weren't allowed to choose our groups. The only problem I had in this class was the group paper. Go to exam review days to pass with an A
This subject can be difficult but he makes the material easier to grasp. He does not take attendance but, go to class, reading the book is mandatory but he talks about key points in lecture. There are 12 quizzes online, he drops your lowest 2. 3 exams, including the final. Pretty straight forward as far as grading. I would definitely take again.
Clear grading criteria: 12 quizzes (2 dropped), 3 exams ( non-cumulative final-each worth 25 percent of total grade). Lectures: Hilarious, but sometimes off topic. Pros: no essay, clear study guides for exam +extra credit problems Con: sometimes quizzes on material that wasn't lectured on ( but in book). Overall: would take him again.
I took Professor Del Chiaro for Winter Session 2016. He's really funny! There are study guides so work on it and the exam shouldn't be that much of a problem if you study it. Renting or buying the required text helps
Easiest Abnormal Psych professor EVER! He has pop quizzes but they are SUPER EASY. His exams are easy, he will tell you what to study. Just pay attention in class, take notes and read key terms and main points from the text book. Do not read the entire chapters in the book, waste of time. Book is too wordy and might make you think the class is hard
Here's what his lectures consist of...... HIS OWN NOTES FROM THE TEXTBOOK. Don't even bother showing up to class, just make sure to follow the text and you'll pass easily. Grades based off 10 quizzes, 2 midterms, and 1 final. Quizzes on canvas, open book.
Avoid if you want to actually learn something!
Really funny and down-to-earth professor. Only complaint about him being funny is that the discussion in class gets off topic sometimes, which leads to getting behind the lecture schedule. He'll adjust due dates if he's really behind though. I had him for a Friday class and he let us out early pretty often, he's a very understanding professor.
Taking Steve's class isn't difficult. Regular homework assignments which aren't difficult, just require wither using the book or google. He tells you what you need to know for the exam by giving a study guide before each exam. He also gives a few extra credit points for every exam.
Overall, a great teacher. He's also very hilarious, although sometimes his puns are dry. Just don't forget to do the online quizzes.
Great professor. Easy work. Good humor. Before midterms and finals, the study guides he gives you are godsend.
He is so funny the period goes by quick! His lectures are about his notes of the book not the book. There are no slides so you have to pay attention or record the lecture. 3 exams, he goes over the exact question on the exam a week before the test.
Steve is amazing!! Best professor ever! This class was tough but he made it more fun. He gives extra credit on each exam and he will reopen quizzes if majority of class did not do well. so basically, pay attention in class, take good notes, read the book and articles to do well on quizzes, go to study sessions, and study!
Steve is hilarious. His appearance and sense of humor resembles Louis C.K. and he knows his stuff really well. He utilizes several forms of media to best teach his lesson and keep students engaged, from interactive animations to SNL skits. He genuinely wants his students to learn and pass his class. Would take again.
This is my favorite class so far. He knows what he is teaching. His study-guide was very helpful-if you study from it you will get an A on the exam. He is so funny too and simplify the lesson. SHOW UP TO CLASS- he has extra credit on the exams, but you have to be in class to get the points. I highly recommend this class to anyone who wants an A.
Exams are based off combination of lecture, textbook, & article readings. Great professor - very funny & relatable. No group projects because he knows everyone hates it but there is only 2 exams & 1 big paper - so, grades are based off very little assignments. Do your reading & you'll be good.
great class he was relatable. gives. study guide before the exam so its easy to study. Has extra credit questions from class discussions
The Professor changed my out look on humanity, I see in him what a dedicated professional can be. Life changing .
Great teacher, he has so much knowledge in Psychology and really teaches us beyond abnormal psychology. I look up to him as a mentor, especially if you are looking to go into the clinical psychology field. Super entertaining, I always look forward to going to his lectures.
Del Chiaro is great, you will laugh the whole class. He made Friday morning classes enjoyable. I struggled with quizzes but made up for it with exams (study guides out of this world) even an average C student like me did well! Only downside is no lecture slides to look back on. His lectures are strictly oral but you get a lot of funny videos!
Entertaining class; he puts effort into making lectures amusing & relatable. Grades are mainly online quizzes, 3 exams, & arguably THE most fun term paper. If only he utilized powerpoint w/ lectures & updated Canvas regularly, he'd be the perfect professor. Take notes on your laptop b/c its all by dictation/verbal. Even so, 10/10 would recommend!!
lectures are always off topic and most of the time he shows us funny videos. textbook not needed. you can find the answers to all his online quizzes on quizLIT ;) he tells you everything thatll be on the test the class before but its very vague and not in depth. hes a great guy but he has room to improve as a teacher. tests are pretty difficult
Awesome teacher! You do to even need to take notes. He tells you what you need to know and listen because its in the exact order as the exam. He is also hilarious and if you are ever sturggling with something let him know. Very caring and good guy.
Steve is by far the best professor I've had. Class was Fridays from 9:30-12:15 but he made it bearable and gave us breaks in between. He tells you what's going to be on each exam and gives you the questions in the order that they'll be in. He and his TAs are great, if you get the chance to take his class you won't regret it
assignments and classroom learning was nonexistent. Nice guy but awful teacher. Tests are extremely difficult. Talks more about his personal life than the actual topic of the class.
Good professor. He's really funny and wants you to understand. Only 2 tests and a quiz every week on canvas but quizzes are easy if you went to lecture. The tests are a bit difficult but just study and listen in class ! He's easy to talk to so if you have any questions just ask. You can tell he was a cool dude back in the day.(He's not old tho)
Definitely me favorite professor at SJSU. Here are some disclaimers just so you know what you're getting into: -If you want to learn, read the chapters. Steve is easily distracted and hilarious, but if you want an A like me, just read the book. -Listen to his anecdotes, sometimes he uses them on the test/ Extra credit
If I could take this professor for every class I would. He and his TAs make the class the funniest thing ever. Turned a 3 hour friday morning lecture into my favorite class of the week. Easy online quiz once a week. Easy short paper. I learned so much!! And 3 tests that have extra credit. Read the text and go to lecture for the best time ever.
Best professor at SJSU by far. Steve makes every class beyond interesting and gives the best study guides before midterms. Follow through and you will be just fine.
If I could take him again, I would! I love this class so much and I honestly could not have had a better teacher for the 3 hour lecture. Please don't be afraid of the length of the class. You'll enjoy it so much that time really does fly fast! (Also, sometimes brings his dog to class :) )
Del Chiaro is definitely pretty funny and he always has a good attitude, which I appreciate. His lectures are pretty disorganized though and he gets off topic frequently, which doesn't really mesh well with my learning style. Study guides are not enough to study for the test; show up to class to get all the info as well as read the textbook.
Worst professor I've had by far. Extremely overrated. Starts off lecture talking about nonsense. Spends less than half of lecture actually teaching. Extremely disorganized. Goes off topic every 5 minutes. Everything needed for the exams are in the textbook. Easy A, but don't bother taking this class if you want to actually learn. Wasted time and $
Took 110 with him and he was cool but this one was a lot more difficult. He constantly kept getting off topic and it was hard for me to learn during lectures. A midterm, final, and a paper. Wasn't clear on what he wanted in the paper so it was annoying. Cool personality but not the best at teaching
Waking up at 5AM for a commute, made it worthwhile to get to his class at 9AM lecture. He's a great professor that cares about each student on an individual basis and wants everyone to do well. Show up to class because he's great, in addition to a lot of extra credit given out for exams and in-class work. Great professor!
Funny professor with lots of rambling and sidetracked easily especially from the T.A.s. His lectures help understand the material for the tests. He gives study guides for the tests which is from the book so read and do the assignments. Also has one paper due that will require effort for your grade. Grades very easily and gives extra credit.
Best professor. Really took an interest. Other reviewers say he goes off topic, but he brings it back to class material, encouraging students to use critical thinking and use the material in everyday life
Such a fun class, he makes it really interactive even with a class over 100+. The assignments are actually fun to do. You do one character analysis, and it's actually really fun to do. He gives extra credit on all exams, just be sure to be in class & he'll let you know what they are . 10/10 I'll def take him again!
He's a very personable professor. However, he is very disorganized. Typically does not use slides and half the class he does not teach. If you plan on not reading the textbook, go to class and take notes. He does not provide a study guide which was frustrating.
His class was 3 hours on a Friday. He made lectures so entertaining and is generally a really funny person. He gives you a break in the middle of class. He grades a bit harder on the researcher paper. The volunteer hours are easy to neglect, but I recommend getting it done right away.
Kind of an overrated teacher. Hes nice, funny, and entertaining; but kind of disorganized. He doesnt provide clear guidelines for things, and hardly provides feedback when you ask for it; but will grade based on guidelines. He knows what hes teaching and I got a good grade, but I dont feel he provided enough support when students asked for it.
Steve is a really great professor and super funny. He makes lectures engaging and interesting. The class itself is manageable with weekly quizzes, 2 midterms, a research paper, and a final. He's worth taking if you get a chance.
Very disorganized. If you are required to take him, do not!! Very disrespectful and gets frustrated easily when asked a question, plus curses a lot during class over nonsense stuff. Prof's get F's too :)
If you want to learn anything in this class you're going to need to read the textbook. Reading the textbook is also mandatory for tests, as all questions are based off material in the book. Going to lectures does not really help other than for knowing the few extra credit questions that are given on exams. Professor was entertaining.
I have taken difficult classes with tough professors and those have been paradise compared to the chaos that is Del Chiaros classroom. He is unprofessional, crass, disorganized, and disrespectful. Maybe he just says things for shock value, but it is almost embarrassing. Learned very little from lecture, so be proactive in your readings.
I don't know why the reviews are bad. He does not record his lectures but quizzes are EASY. 5 question Canvas quiz every Monday, 2 exams, solo project paper, and 1 final. Breakout room to discuss your progress and connect with some other students. Potential for 5pts extra credit on Kahoot! Overall, super chill class!
Steve is an amazing professor. I have had the opportunity to take a couple of his classes and he makes psychology so interesting. His stories are hilarious yet totally applicable to the topics covered. Take this class if you like attending stimulating lectures yet enjoy putting in the effort to learn, the material in this class is awesome!
Steve is caring and such a cool guy. He is hilarious which makes lectures fun. He is so laid back. Attendance isn't mandatory. He gives Chapter quizzes but all the questions are found on quizlet One big paper that he gives you plenty of time for. Final is also found on quizlet. Great professor! Easy A if you can follow instructions and do the work
Steve is a really cool professor, however, I did not enjoy his class at all. I showed up to meetings the first few weeks but when the first quiz came he made it due before class and would not teach that lesson until after the quiz was due. If you take his class, you will need to do all your learning from the textbook. Tests all from the book.
Cool professor. Yes, he can go off-topic but he comes back to lecture! The class was boring sometimes, but it was also interesting. He's pretty chill and understanding. There are weekly quizzes and 3 exams. Textbook helps a lot to understand the concepts. He did his best to explain the lectures and give real-life examples. Only one paper to do.
Steve is the man! Psych 1 was one of my fun classes this semester and I enjoyed it. Steve is hilarious and makes these dad jokes which are cringe but hilarious. He includes videos in his lectures and makes the class more fun by doing kahoots for extra credit. Take his class and you won't regret it!
This is my 2nd course with Steve and he is amazing. All of the test questions can be found on quizlet so you can prepare for exams without the study guide. One big paper at the end of the semester but you have plenty of time for that. He may go off topic sometimes but most of his stories are related to the lecture and help you remember it better.
With Steve, 110 is an easy A: Structure and concepts are simple and clear. Lectures are super fun and informative. Assignment instructions are clear, the essay topic is really interesting. He's fun, inspiring, easy to talk to, and very knowledgeable. I always look forward to taking this class every week and I want to take more of his courses later.
Psyc110 with Steve is fairly easy. He uses Cengage for the online version of the class and the HW/Quizzes are very easy on there. There is also a fictional character paper that you get to write which is actually pretty fun since you can do anyone you want! Def recommend this class!
Dr. Steve's style is not for me. If your someone who likes to stay on task and receive helpful lecture slides that actually help you succeed on the exam. Then this is not it. Dr . Steve goes on large tangents and I never felt greatly prepared for his exams nor able to retain the material for future use. Again not for me. But he is funny.
Steve is f'ing awesome. He's very laidback and also knows his stuff. He really knows how to teach things in a way that makes the concepts stick and he's hilarious. Its kind of an easy class, just pay attention and you'll be golden.
Hes honestly so chill and laid back! Of majority of the class needs more time he will extend the deadline, hes super funny and tells stories, just pay attention and do the work itll be easy!
Hes a really nice person but his teaching style is terrible. he always cancels class and barely touches on the powerpoints and gets super behind yet still cancels class weekly. sometimes he doesnt even tell us hes canceled class. hes knowledgeable but often veers off onto his own random opinions.
easy a but you will not learn anything - he constantly cancels class for no reason (he once canceled his lecture on sexual dysfunctions cause he thought it was too awkward??) and if we do have class he barely says anything relevant. in person class but online tests (all on quizlet) hes funny but it just felt like a waste of time going to this class
While his class isn't mandatory to attend, the lectures are sooo interesting, so you will want to go. He uses a program called Cengage which is an online study tool. It is due at the end of the semester so make sure you stay on top of the quizzes and study lessons(all are easy anyway). Professor Del Chairo is so interesting and full of knowledge!!
Amazing content in lecture, if he ever senses the subject matter is getting stale, he will deviate to something pertinent but captivating and entertaining. Always puts his students first, no matter what type of student. One of those professors you know is genuinely a good person outside of the classroom. 10/10 would recommend to my mom
The greatest Professor to take at SJSU. I took his online class and he made the class very interesting. He is hilarious and is willing to help a student if you cant take the test during the time and accommodate to the students needs. I would 100% take his class again. You do one big paper starts at the beginning of the semester & due at the end.
He is not the chill prof he claims to be. He consistently lied and dropped promised policies without notice. A student was going through grief and the prof allowed him to finish an exam later, then did not let him complete it, and missed scheduled meetings. Didn't lecture for the final. Copy the textbook into a doc to use during the open-note exams
Steve was a great teacher for Psyc 155. I took this class for Winter Session. He was mindful of the short time constraint and class did not feel too rushed. His lectures were helpful and he uses lots of stories and examples that are effective. There is one project, but he goes over it in large detail and it is manageable.
AMAZING. He makes class very entertaining. I never want to miss class bc I genuinely enjoy his lectures, tells lots of stories from the job. Very easy to talk to, sarcastic humor. Weird rules for tests, make sure you follow him. Talks fast, lectures are scattered rather than slide for slide, but it helps me stay engaged vs someone who talks slow.
Professor Del Chiaro has a keen sense of humor and his class feels like an open discussion over a lecture. He's very nice and will work with you if you have any issues. Online course you need to buy, but his class is worth it. Take this guy. Grades are based off tests (with comprehensive study guides), easy hw, and a paper with an easy rubric.
Not sure if his lax lecture style fits the topic of human learning since there are lots of terms. Went through the slides quickly so I ended up just reading the book. There was a 10-page paper which wasn't too difficult, but we didn't have much guidance for it other than the resources provided. Some confusion. Nice guy though!
Great Professor, took his winter sessions and absolutely enjoyed every class session. Please take Prof. Del Chiaro he truly cares about his students. All you need to worry about are the mastery training assignments, tests and one big paper. I usually don't leave many reviews but I felt I had to this time around!!
Professor Steve is hilarious and super caring. He doesn't really respond to emails; make sure to talk to him in-person if you need something. He is more than willing to work with you if he sees you participate and put in work. He grades a little harshly considering how chill he seems and doesn't provide feedback. Overall, great class though.
Prof. Del Chiaro keeps the class engaging with his humor and open discussions. The workload is manageable, with easy homeworks and a paper with a clear rubric. unstuckstudy is great for test prep alongside the Cengage resources.
Amazing professor! His lectures were always so fun - his humor is what makes a 9 am class a lot better. He truly cares about his students and tries to push engagement through his knowledge of the course, puns, jokes, etc which is great. Had 2 in person exams, 1 paper, and the final. Nothing too bad, if you need to take Psychology 1 - take him!!!
Funny lectures. He cares for students. You take like 3 exams but the last one is online. I do recommend you make flashcards on the slides he provides and a little info from the textbook and that's how I got high scores on his exams. You do an essay but it's pretty fun and easy in my opinion because of the topic. Just go to class and you'll be fine
Steve is hilarious. his lectures are awesome, and he has a great sense of humour. He wears funny graphic shirts. No textbook, but you do need to buy the ebook to do his assignments. You spend most of the time reading the ebook really, but he also gives you slides to revise with. Research paper, but it isn't too demanding. Chill guy take him fs!!
Such a fun class! Steve gives engaging lectures where you can easily absorb the information. You need to buy an online textbook in order to do the homework assignments, but they aren't bad. 2 exams in person and 1, the final, online. Impossible to fail if you do the homework assignments and attend his lectures. Caring and helpful, def take him!
Took him during the winter session so the amount we worked on is significantly different from what his class would do over the semester. It was by far one of the easiest classes I've ever taken and I wasn't stressed about getting everything done. Definitely take his class over the winter to avoid any projects or papers. He's also very lenient!
Super nice professor and hes super relatable and funny!! There are few exams, overall his class is an easy A!
I don't agree with the TEDTalk assignments being provided almost every week especially with Self Change Paper that is nearly due, but at least Professor Del Chiaro is doing his best.
Through attending optional office hours, we aren't given much feedback other than to study the modules provided in the required Cengage book course. I also think the amount of work and high expectations are inconsistent with the learning experience. I personally have never felt more disconnected from a subject and its coursework.
Very funny and nice professor. You have to pay for an online service for the chapter quizzes, but they aren't difficult. I took him during the summer session, and there was one final paper, which was basically a personal experiment, so that was fun. Overall would highly recommend.
LMS homework assignments were pretty tedious but definitely effective for at least introducing each chapter. Lectures are entertaining and informative, but occasionally sidetracked. Otherwise Prof. Del Chiaro is a pretty good teacher, plenty of practical experience in his field. No study guides, exam review is done in person at least a week prior
Get ready for a lot of work load. This class is loaded with assignments so be on top of your time management!
Lots!! of work. Closed browser for tests. 50 questions. 50min. Too stressful
LMS heavy and long, but super helpful for exams. Lectures are sometimes sidetracked, but also critical for exams. Helpful study guides. Entertaining, fun, and keeps it realistic. Very kind, so easy to talk to and ask questions. Prof in other unis, so takes a while to grade final paper or reply emails personally(not the TA). Overall is great.
$130 cengage text required. No study guide for exams. 50 minutes for 50 questions. Expects you to learn everything in text book for exam. One major paper due but no guidance provided besides sample papers. Okay online class if you're dedicated but tedious assignments overall. Not my fav tbh
Started out great super engaging course content. By second half of semester he would yap with students in front for the first 20-30 minutes of class then speed through the slides. Insanely frustrating. One big paper, very easy just make sure to do it on time, fairly easy exams. Daily Participation quizzes, weekly asynch textbook readings w quiz.
