Very helpful and entertaining. Gives away prizes to keep class interesting. If you need help, he will definatly help you. Very good teacher and keeps it interesting even though its an extremely boring class.
Very interesting and intellectual stimulated class! Great professor!! He does give away interesting prizes to students
This guy would be the man if he weren't from Boston, but, he still rocks nonetheless. Tough but fair teacher; Probably the finest OSU has to offer.
The class was somewhat tricky, and he did a good job at explaining the concepts. He has kind of odd ways of making the class interesting, but overall he was a great professor.
Class was a challenge. He made the class interesting and was one of the better professors I have had at Ohio State.
Class was great, teacher was awsome. Actaully wanted to go to class at 530 at night! Made it fun, rewarded with food. Really willing to help.
Haha, funny guy. Subject matter is really boring but the instructor has unique methods to keep the student interested. You'll see what I mean when you take a class from him.
This teacher got on my last nerve, he wasted so much time in class doing stupid things. Half of the time I got up and left because he was trying to be funny and I had better things to do.
Awful professor, insults students and makes them feel dumb if they ask a bad question. unclear and disorganized. participation points too hard to get.
Horrible professor/class enough said!
Very easy graders for tests and cases. But his policy on participation poinds blows. You would have to a ton of extra work to come anywhere close to getting it all. I would avoid this guy in taking this class. He's sort of a jerk as well.
Class was tough. 2 case studies worth 30% total, 1 midterm worth 35% and 1 final worth 35%. He scales the final and it is the only curve in the class, but it is pretty generous. He attempts to make it fun, but operations just was not interesting. Need to go to lecture for example math problems because they are worth a lot on the exams.
One midterm, one final both worth 100 points, 2 case studies worth 15 pts each. Need to go to class to understand the material. He does not stray from his notes. The book is never used don't buy it, it's $140. Study his review sheet. Final has a large curve to it. Harder material, just review it one week before test. I got an A not impossible
Great Professor. Class was very interesting, always had a story to tell. Just read the cases and articles and participate in class. The best class and professor I've had so far.
looks like george bush. talks like george bush. gives fortune cookies & sings in class. lots of extra credits in exams.
Class material was kinda boring but he always had interesting examples/stories. He'd sing us songs and give us gifts for answering questions so that was pretty sweet. EXTREMELY LIKEABLE GUY. Study your notes for the exam and you'll be fine. 2 case studies but if you divide up the work in your group its not bad at all.
Likeable guy. Material was boring but not too difficult. ALways gave tons of bonus on tests. 3 group cases which were pretty easy. Does NOT look or talk like Bush...? Sorta cute for an older guy and had a fun personality...gave out prizes for answering questions. Someone in my class got tickets to something but I never found out what..
Pretty cool guy. Gave a ton of extra credit on the final, the average ended up being something ridiculous like 112% so 3/4 of the class got A's. Likes to swear a lot and gives out random prizes in class that'll make you laugh. Didn't really learn anything and ended up with an A, so that says something about his easiness.
Excellent Teacher. One of the most innovative and clear instructors I have had. Lots of extra credit available, nearly 20 points on each exam. A down-to-earth student oriented guy. As he says, he really will "Add value to the class for you the 'student consumer'." I would take a course from him in a heartbeat.
Fun professor, *clearly* made an effort to make the (uninteresting) content come alive. The course was easy. As someone who almost always buys the books for classes, though, buying this textbook was a waste of money--$140 and you don't need anything from it, only the course packet/powerpoint slide notes.
Crazy guy, but made class fun. Does alot of singing in class. Attendance not that necessary, but must get notes from a friend in class for more clarity for exams. Gave a large curve after final. Textbook not necessary. I went to about half the lectures and got a B+ so it is a great possibility that you can get an A.
Easy class to begin with, but extra credit on tests is awesome. great teacher, keeps things fun. buy the class notes but not the book and study the night before the exams. I would definitely take another class from him.
Pretty good professor. Explained things fairly clearly and the course is helpful. To get the full participation points (20% of the grade), only 20 out of 32 points need to be earned. DON'T SLEEP IN CLASS! The average for my class on the midterm was in the mid 80s, so students understood what he taught.
Not too bad a guy...likes to give out random prizes to students who answer questions or did really well on the exams. No need to but the book, just the course packet. Study the packet before exams and get a good group for the case studies and you'll do just fine.
He tries, but the class is boring especially at 830 in the morning study the slides that you are able to buy at the beginning of the quarter bounded, don't buy the textbook, and you should be good
Not a boring teacher, knows his stuff so class is a pleasure to go to. Easy grader. Best dressed teacher at FCOB. To get a good test grade, just read the cases and go to class. Easy!
Avoid. He's a nice guy and all. But his exam questions are ridiculous and if you don't go to class. the lecture slides won't make any sense. only good thing about each exam is that he gives you 20 pts you can miss before it starts deducting from your grade, you will need them.
Good teacher.
Boring lectures, easy exams. Tests have built in extra credit, if you can breathe you can get an A in this class.
Easiest teacher at Fisher. I don't know that I really learned anything, fell asleep in every lecture, and still pulled off an A with no problem. The class is structured so that everyone gets an A. This material is not going to be enjoyable no matter who you take, so take Dickstein.
Very interesting teacher; boring subject matter. Half of the quarter was devoted to solver. Ughhhh. He ended class early a lot and there are five EASY case studies. The exams require you to know the material, but the material is pretty easy. He is extremely well dressed and gives things out as prizes in class.
he is one of the best professors at fisher college. he made this course as easy as he could. there were 5 easy case studies. the exams were quite manageable as well. i reccomend everyone to take 331 with him.
Very easy and laid back professor. Cases aren't hard at all and the exams aren't that bad either as long as you TAKE THE TIME TO STUDY
A class like this should not be taught online. Hes a cool guy, likes to sing & give treats to those who talk and does well on exam. he offers TONS of extra credit on exams.the material isnt too harsh, but this class is not a slacker one. dont buy textbook or connect($40). just go to thompson, rent textbook, and do the problems that he suggest
Awful. The exams are impossible and take the entire time to finish. You need to go to all of the classes to know the material that he does not post online (on purpose).
Easy, easy class. It's hard not to get an A on the cases since he is so lenient grading them (most of the time), and the finals have five bonus questions. Book not needed. Just pay attention to his slides and make sure you understand everything that the problems convey. To me, it was a very easy A. Professor D's a nice guy. For the most part.
A really nice teacher! He makes the material as easy as possible. Pay attention in lecture and you will not need to study. Slides alone are not very helpful
Not an interactive class. Expects a lot of discussion, but the questions he asks are aimed at grad students, so we simply did not know what to say at times. Great guy and interesting projects and lecture, but like I said, many times lecture just consisted of him talking for the whole class period.
Thought this class should have been easier than it was. The final was way too hard for a business minor class and although it was not cumulative, it contained questions from the first half of the class. The study guide did not match up with the exam content. Questions were written to trick the students. Overall, not happy.
He's biased and subjective. Awful as a teacher!
Steven explains the subject pretty well. And he also makes the class a lot easier. Cases are relatively easy so are the exams. The best in teaching modeling.
He is a great professor and very interested in his job. Quizzes are super easy. Exams are easy too as long as you read the book and have common sense. The cases aren't bad, just don't get stuck with a bad group. Don't even have to attend lecture or watch online modules to get an A
Such a caring and wonderful professor! He always goes out of his way to make class interesting, even sang us a song once. As long as you go to class and pay attention the tests and cases are pretty easy.
Lectures are very slow. Buying the book is a MUST. It's an article pack that changes every year. Group work with a final presentation at the end of the year. Essay midterm. Fair grading. Not a bad class.
Recitation once a week and the rest of the content is online. Doesn't use PPT much, just talks to the class so recitation can be boring at times. Class is out of 240 points, but he gives extra questions on the midterm/final. Midterm was manageable, final was extremely difficult! There's group work, but it's fine as long as your group doesn't suck.
Decent professor. Didn't give out a curve but put built in extra credit on the exams (ex: the final had 140 total points but was only graded out of 100), so even though the exams were hard, it was pretty easy to get an A on them. The only in-class component is an optional recitation once a week. Overall had a good experience.
Basic business management. You have to do two group cases during the semester, but they are straightforward. The class itself was easy. Numerous amounts of extra credit on the exams, and the final is not cumulative. Should be an easy A.
This guy is hilarious. Would sing full length personal renditions of songs to us in class. Very helpful and understands that we're college students just working for the GPA. His lectures can sometimes get mundane and boring... so if you fall asleep like I did frequently, just skim the book. Unless you actually don't care at all... you'll get an A.
Prof is such a nice guy. He can get a little monotone and boring sometimes, but he's pretty funny when he wants to be and you can tell he cares about his students. I'm glad I took him for this class! It helps to go to class but there are a ton of quizlets online that tell you basically everything you need to know.
Definitively not good. -Lectures are long, not particularly helpful, and delivered in monotone. -Cases can be bad if you are in a bad group -Most importantly, the difficulty of the quizzes and exams are in no way representative of the problems that are gone over in class. Exams in particular are much, much harder than the practice problems.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. This class should be much easier than it is. The material is not difficult, but his exams in no way match up to the study guides. Midterm was manageable, but the final was incredibly difficult. Lectures are so boring that it is hard to pay attention, and cases covered info not gone over well in class.
This class is an easy A because he gives so much extra credit. The group work is tedious, and his lectures are boring, but as long as you stay on top of the stuff you need to know, its not so bad. The tests are ridiculously difficult, but because he gives up to 30 points extra credit on them, you should still manage to get decent grades on them.
Quite honestly the worst professor I've had during my time at Ohio State. The entire course needs to be restructured, not to mention his attitude and approach toward his students. While he seemed nice initially, he was the least helpful, rudest, most inconsiderate instructor I've encountered.
The best part of this course is that he offers around 40 extra credit points on the two tests. His lectures are monotonous and unclear. The subject matter is useful, but his ability to convey it is weak. He spends little time on the math, and the problems are written confusingly, purposely tricky. Keep up with the out of class work!
The quizzes are impossible and the exams never stick to the study guide. STUDY THE PPTS FOR EXAMS. Even the stuff he says isn't important on the slides; exam questions come straight from the slides, ALL the slides. Go to class on days he reviews answers to cases and supplements/articles because he never posts the answers and they're on the exam.
He is nice and tries to make it fun by singing in class and even passed out fortune cookies before the midterm. However, he is very monotoned, which makes for long lectures. Group projects are also tough (especially if you are in a bad group) and make up a decent amount of your final grade as he uses his own final grade calculation method.
He leads class discussion and lectures without slides, expects class participation and gives 2 participation quizzes. 1 individual casual presentation along with 2 group presentations. 1 midterm with no study guide. His grading criteria is not clear, and he is not clear when asked to clarify.
Boring lectures, monotone voice puts you to sleep. You have to buy an article book that is $120 that cannot be re-sold because he makes creates a new one every semester. He is super picky as to how you answer the long answers in the exam and takes points off for stupid reasons. Participation is 15% of the grade so be ready to talk. He is rude also
Very monotone lectures. Rarely stayed awake. Group projects aren't too bad as long as you have a reliable group. TONS of extra credit on exams. Midterm had 130 points possible out of 100. Final had 150 possible out of 100. Second half of the course is very math-based. Barely learned anything after the midterm and still got an A.
The class is easy because tests are graded out of 100 with 140-150 possible points. However, the PowerPoints are unorganized and jump around randomly. Group project wording is often ambiguous. He uses archaic supplemental articles & videos that are never even close to current (early 2000s). If you want an easy A & not really learn, take his class.
Professor is super boring. Lectures for an hour and a half and doesn't even cover all the material on the exams. So hard to be motivated for this class.
Lectures are very boring. All material taught is free game on exams.
There's group cases that are a big part of your final grade, so make sure you have reliable people. The tests are curved heavily. He doesn't explain the math applications of in-depth concepts, so prepare for mostly self-teaching.
Honestly I don't know how he has a job here. He basically just throws out tons of information at you and says its all fair game (even the OPINION based video and case questions). I literally don't bother going to class. There is no point like youll fall asleep. Exams are curved crazily. Should have no issue getting an A. Get good case groups
He really cares about how much you get out of this class and tried really hard to make it interesting with songs and food. Very nice guy who really cares about his students and gives you crazy curves for exams. Grades pretty fairly but wont give you 100 for doing nothing.
If you have more options , do not take his class ! The participation point is awful. The total is 15 but each participate only gets 0.5. You need to read cases before class so that you can answer his questions. His scored unfairly for group projects and group presentations . He do not care how much information you put, he only care decision tree!
I have had Steve for two classes, and both I have only lost points for not showing up. If you attend almost every class, you should have no problem passing the class. There is only one exam, which is super easy and has tons of extra credit. The group projects are not terrible, either. Just try to read the articles before class and participate.
Really funny guy. Explains the material well. I always had trouble connecting recitation and lecture material, but I think its more of a miscommunication between the professor and the TAs. Class is much easier than a lot of people make it out to be
Steve is an old school prof. Lots of reading (three 4-page articles per class, with the biweekly "case study" that may be upwards of 30 pages). Classes are based completely off the reading.
Class was "hybrid learning" so lots of reading outside of class w/ a weekly recitation. Makes grading criteria very clear and lots of opportunities for extra credit, both on exams and other assignments. Lectures are kind of dry but I do feel like I learned a lot overall. Exam difficulty is on par with that of other business minor courses at OSU.
Awesome guy. Really funny at times. But very old school and can be quite picky. Overall he's just a good dude and a pretty good teacher. Be ready to read a lot and talk a lot in class. Participation kinda sucks and is nearly impossible if you choose not to read.
this class sucked and wouldn't take it unless u had to
I took the class online so I did not have a lot of interaction, but he seems like a decent guy. The exams are not easy to take but he offers a good chunk of extra credit on each so they are easy to get a good grade on. Get good case groups. Do the work and its an easy A.
He is great, the best out of the 2321 professors! Very responsive and caring. Straightforward and organized class and lectures are very helpful. Graded by 5 quizzes (pretty easy), 2 group cases (challenging, but doable), and 2 exams (have to study for, but manageable). Slight curve is applied. Take him!
Im not going to lie this guy isnt good to be honest. The guy doesnt know how to teach let alone communicate, hes disrespectful and thinks its okay to overload us with work. Which wasnt a problem to be honest. Its the fact that none of your assignments dates on McGrawhill correlate with anything he assigns you through Carmen. Not a single one
Steven seems like a super nice guy, & I wish I couldve had him in person, bc his online lectures were not helpful at all. His internet connection was awful so it was hard to understand what he was saying bc of the bad connection. However, its still possible to get a good grade bc of the extra credit. I have no idea whats going on but I have A-
Took this class online. Lectures are boring and slow paced. I ended up watching the lectures in the online textbook. Attending recitations helped. I also never read any of the online textbook chapters. There are 5 quizzes that are pretty easy imo. 2 group project cases that are easy if you watch the textbook videos. Take Klinker if possible.
Overall, I liked him. Not as much work as you would have taking Klinker, which I appreciated. Exams are pretty specific, so definitely watch his lectures and attend recitation. The two group projects weren't too difficult, just start them early. The five quizzes were all very easy and two attempts. He's a fine choice, just study well for exams!
I'm not really sure why this class is mandatory and very underlooked. The class needs restructuring, didnt learn a whole lot. If you take an analytics class, you would expect to have useful homework or practice problems that help you towards the exam/projects, which wasnt the case. This class is very difficult.
This class was so ridiculously disorganized. I was learning different things in pre-lecture, lecture, and recitations, and had no idea how to study for exams. There needs to be more communication between TAs and the professor and they should all have access to materials on Carmen. The content itself wasn't hard but the class was painfully confusing
Do not take this class of it is online. There is a lot more math than advertised and there is supposed to be a recitation. When the class is online, he neglects to have a recitation. Good luck teaching the math to yourself.
Content and structure of the class is somewhat disorganized, but he knows what hes talking about. Class content isnt too difficult. Tons of room for extra credit from tests; plus open note tests. A couple cases with groups which are easy.
His lectures are pretty solid, explains the math parts of the course well, plus he offers tons of extra credit opportunities. He also responds to emails pretty quickly.
You won't interact with this professor very much in an online setting. Used recorded lectures from a previous semester and assigned weekly reading assignments, sometimes multiple chapters. Open-note exams that are difficult but plenty of extra credit offered during the exam. Easy A if you don't fall behind on material.
I never interacted with him, but the online lectures are terrible. The quality is not good and is barely watchable. It is also not comprehensive so you will have to spend a lot of time reading the book. He didn't put much effort into the class. Only good part is lots of extra credit, but not a guaranteed A.
Professor Dickstein is an okay choice for analytics. To be honest his online prerecorded lectures were very hard to stay awake during. I am not a fan of courses that make their exams difficult so they can throw hundreds of curves at you. He seems like a really nice guy and is willing to help if you reach out. Easy cases, just study for exams!
