Funny man, good teacher. Go Gizmo!
awsome right until 2002 exam
The guy reads Jack Wieners Notes then the tests are totally different
Killer 2002 exam...nothing like past test or examples done in class
Excellent!
Final did not represent the course as a whole, began easy ended challening.
Has changed teaching for the better since 1200 comments. Doing a great job.
Tests/Final 2002 were easy. He just needs to rant a little less.
This guy loves math... he wants to challenge you but ultimately wants you to do well. I'd say he keeps improving as a professor, especially in clarity. And his rants are always a source of amu****t.

lectures very well, creates difficult tests
first two tests pretty good all the rest brutal plus he babbles non-stop. shut up and teach
great teacher!...made calulus easier...and his rants help to break up the class (essential when you have 2 1/2 hours of straight calculus
not bad, gets really boring in class when hes explaining somthing
I think he is good overall, but some things need to be explained a little more.
Gismondi is a smooth **** with attitude and ego to spare.
had for both math 1200 and 1210. barely passed calc 1, and didnt pass calc 2. hes funny but filling in the blanks isnt the best way to learn at all. odd style, tells stories which are good for break
GIZZER ROCKS!
Great Prof! Makes math interesting (never thought that could be possible) and easy to understand. Funny stories makes the classes easier to get through too.
Funny prof, can get really slow and dry. I like that he knows that he's a nerd and math isn't fun. Fair tests and quizzes.
Makes calculus interesting... Seems to have issues with pets/animals.
gismo, you are SO spaztastic!

yo guy..this guy is hype!!! really cool...liked him a lot! great teacher!
obvious lack of experience teaching this course.
i liked him . . . but can't say much about the mark i got . . . wasn't his fault i was stupid though
A really good prof - fair for tests and quizes (wish he had written the exam). The animal stories make class more fun though they are unfortunate.

great guy, but has a little trouble delivering the material :) but we had an open book exam, so WHO CARES?!
Very entertaining prof, great stories! Prepared us well for quizzes and midterms and an overall good prof
He is unorganized, unprepared and lazy. Throught out the year he missed tutorials and was rarely available for help. His final exam was designed to make students fail because everyone received high marks on assignments through out the year. Fire Him!
Good teacher and all, but he leaves the ppl who are average and below wayyyy behind, only an eye and ear for advanced math students.
he is the cutest man i have ever seen in my life!!!!! i want to keep him as a pet
We Looooooove you Steve!!! So cute and adorable, an awesome guy......helped me for an hour on his day off.
This guy is amazing!!!! Super helpful and willing to teach. Loves his job I'd have to say. A wonderful teacher and person
too funny. i love/hate how he gets distracted (bad) and tells us funny stories (good). i'd go to his lecs but they are too early for me!
happy guy.enthusiastic.but only the advanced ppl know what hes talkin about.i don't even know what questions to ask!i usually need to go over the notes myself later and slow it down because he goes over things so fast after realizing he's wasted too much time blabbing on about sumthin irrelevant!
Awesome teacher, made the material easy and fun to learn. Obviously loves his job, and is very open to answering questions if there is any.
good professor, but sometimes goes over information too slowly, making the student lose interest. Stories keep class entertaining
hottest man ever!! sooooooooooo adorable!! love class cause he was soo super sexy!!
He is great...Best math teacher I have had since...EVER!!! Those stories made his class even better...Now if I can only wake up for his lectures...
Seriously he was so good, he explained everything really well. Plus he organized SLG's for people and he was extremely approachable. He made calculus fun because he had great stories that were funny. PLUS HE IS SO HOT! seriously so cute!
He's a really good prof, however i don't recommend taking calc for an hour & a half classes at 8:30, so hard to stay awake and consciously listen to & learn. He did a pretty good job at keeping people interested though, the stories really helped sometimes. Won't forget Roli's morning salad, so funny
He's such a sweetheart, and always willing to help out, and VERY open to answering questions from students.
his examples make sense and he's just so darn cute
This guy is hilarious - he made it easier to get up for 8:30 calculus! Gives lots of hints for test material and actually wants students to do well!
wow, this guy must have taught 1080 really well. I admit, he's willing to put in the time and he seems to care but read the text book instead of going to this class guys; It's a lot less confusing and you won't have to relearn it differently.
I liked him as a person; I thought he was terrible as a lecture prof
Really likes the programming stuff for some reason. I find he is really difficult to follow during lectures. He is a decent prof because he tries his best to involve the class. Not a bad guy, he just isn't working for me
In love with Maple and programming in it, I think he might be a paid advertiser for it. Wants students to learn and is nice, but sometimes gets to complicated with theory and loses me. Tests get much harder as they go I found, but he does his best.
Gismondi may have been able to teach 1080, but that was only because everything was laid out for him. Try taking a class where he has to do everything himself. He is very unorganize, cannot explain things and goes off on numerous tangents unrelated to the course. Overall, he is severely lacking!
I agree with the last poster. Gismondi is a pretty funny guy, but he did a por job with this course. Nobody was really sure what to expect on exams because his notes were a joke. There was also no solutions manual to the text problems, which is what the tests were based on.
His tests are bad, since they're out of 15 you have to know everything or you're screwed. The worst is the final, the questions are like nothing you have seen in the tests, notes or homework. How are we to do well on a test when we have no practice with the type of questions he asks on the finals?
His tests are pretty much a give away. Make sure you ace them. His exam is open book, and it will be the hardest exam you've ever written. I don't understand what he was thinking. I don't think anybody finished nor understood, because there was barely anything you've done before. Good luck
Good guy. Loves math, and is so pasionate about it. I've had 3 gismo classes, and his finals are consistent.... by that i mean IMPOSSIBLE.
Really nice guy, and not a bad prof. The tests weren't TOO bad, but the exam was pure torture. Ridiculously long, seriously impossible to finish in 2 hours. So much for my good mark in this class.
Really smart guy, he really has that "math" state of mind, that only a few people really have. Not the best professor (his notes are written for those who clearly understand what is going on) but he tries his best with explaining things when you need extra help. Good guy :)
Gismondi rocks! His exam was long - but didn't anyone notice? He gave the question number (in the text) at the beginning of each question AND the answers were in the textbook. It was an open book exam. I don't get it. I don't think most people did the homework!
I agree with the note below. The exam questions were omework questions.
I got 96. The tests were a joke. He even put one of the text examples as a question on test3! I didn't need a solutions manual - answers were in the back of the book. The exam was hard - but I aced it! Good course. Good prof.
all 5's, nothing else to say
Until the final I almost thought about switching to a math major... but dropping almost 30% because of a final can change your mind quickly. Another case of a Prof teaching to easy of a course for their skill set.
what a joker! this prof is alotta fun to learn from... i enjoyed his lectures, although i hate math!

Very funny prof, made calculus interesting, tells really great and funny stories to entertain the class. Best math prof ever!
Very good teacher, and tells great stories that keep the class interesting.
hilarious!!! manages to keep an otherwise boring class amusing
No Comments
i love him, he makes me laugh aswell as helps me with my math.
A really good prof! I didn't think i was possible to make a math class so enjoyable. Also able to keep to engaged through the whole lecture.
Great Prof! My favorit! hes awesome!
Avoid this class if you are a DE student. You will finish the semester with a feeling of real detachment from the class, and a lot less confident about your knowledge of calculus. Response time is terrible and the available resources are aweful. This class is a discouraging and intimidating. No exp. in calc. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME IN THIS CLASS
He was a very enjoyable prof who kept you interested in every lecture. Very easy to get off topic and rambled a bit but overall a great experience in his class.
This prof can talk an entire lecture and not actually cover one page of what he was supposed to be doing, his tests are generally wayy too long and too precise 8 decimal digits of accuracy...
Funny little man. I enjoyed his class a lot. The tests pretty much cover the exact same material as the class, sometimes questions are taken directly from the hmwk. He broke up the tediously long 1.5 hr classes with some stories and jokes. Kept me awake!
Makes a class that is difficult and boring for most of us a bit more bearable. Does his best to break the tedium with amusing stories, and never will I forget the morning salad. Extremely helpful and friendly.
STEVEN GISMONDI! is the maN! best math teacher i have ever had in my life!!! gottta love this man
prof gismondi actually made me want to go to class! he made the lectures enjoyable, the tests were more than fair, and he always had office hours if you needed extra help. i love this man!!
Only teacher to get a round of applause and cheering just before the exam. 'nuf said. P.S. ask him to tell the class the cat in the freezer story! :)
Sorry Mr. Gismondi, I just can't understand why after three weeks, you give us an assignment on nothing that was explained in these lectures. I really see no point in attending, if I have to do reteach myself material after the lecture. He's a very good and funny guy, but please go over material in the correct order.
one of my favourite professors
Good MATH prof. Funny jokes - makes otherwise boring material - at least minimally interesting. Talks a lot - fair assessments and lots of material.
Excellent Prof!
Greatest prof ever!!!
For a person who doesnt like math, Gismondi and his stories make math great!! keep it real! haha
Santa Claus IS HOT!!!
Funny guy, midterms are exactly the same as he says they are. This is a very passable class.
Great Prof!! Also probably the shortest prof you'll see on campus, and has the best stories :)
love, unreal prof
Great prof! Made a boring calculus class pretty interesting. Fairly easy midterms, as he had several samples posted online and took exact questions from each midterm.
My issue with Gismondi is his handwriting - I spend so long trying to translate his notes into English from whatever language his handwriting is in (I... think... it's English...) that I miss out on the lecture. He's a nice enough guy, but seriously? A lecture prof who does all his notes on the overhead should have good handwriting, by default.
NO help at all just keeps blabbing about proofs and notions and notations and blah blah blah and theorems and definitions. He takes what you know and makes it HARD!!!!!!!
Absolutely useless prof. Made everything harder than it needed to be. I'm pissed I have him again. I wish I had Jack Weiner.
Rambles constantly, teaches things in a somewhat disjointed manner, I had prior knowledge of most of the course but somehow felt lost in this class thanks to his teaching. Forget about getting online/email help from him. Exams are all q's you've never seen before, MUCH more difficult than examples or homework given, if given similar q's at all.
Gismondi is a great guy, knows his stuff and knows how to laugh. loved math and cares about his students. a classic Guelph meme.
Love Gismo! Yes, he is proof and theory heavy, but thats what this level of calculus requires and those who get lost in his lectures, I'd argue he doesnt have your full attention in the first place. Furthermore, he really has a passion for what he teaches... and for stories to make you lol.
Gismondi is very funny and his stories are hilarious. He clearly is passionate about theoretical math which is why he focuses on it in class. Go to his review sessions! He basically shows you how to do every question on his tests and exams. As long as you pay attention in class and make sure you understand the material you will do fine.
Such a great prof! The class was super easy especially if you had taken calc in grade 12. The tutorials are really helpful and if you can get your hands on old tests/quizzes you are totally set. He is funny and always happy to help.
Great prof, go to lectures and review sessions and you'll have no problems :)
I had no interest in Calculus, but he made is bearable/slightly interesting. I did surprisingly well in the course...but only because of his extra help sessions before the midterms and final. He really wants everyone to succeed. Overall outstanding prof!
very nice and funny guy. but HORRIBLE professor. have fun teaching yourself all of calculus from the textbook that he says was option. he wastes class time telling stories and explaining why things work rather then doing the math...
AWFUL prof. Rambles constantly and makes a lot of stupid mistakes. He tries to teach you life lessons instead of calculus. If you're not naturally good at math his class is hell. He said one thing then did the complete opposite for the tests.
He is one of the BEST PROFS EVER! I had no interest in math until I took his course... Ya, he talks about life lessons and how much he loves math but I enjoyed hearing his stories... so I guess it depends on the person.. PLUS he is very helpful (GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!)
Yes, the course content is complex and he can be…eccentric at times, however he is MORE than willing to spend hours on end helping you understand. His final exam was more than fair and he ensured that if you had done the work, you'd be well prepared. Profs that genuinely care about their students are few and far between, Gismondi is a real gem!
Funniest prof I've ever had. Explains things thoroughly to ensure you actually understand the concepts, not just memorize the steps. Attend class and buy the notes and you'll be fine.
Really helpful during office hours! Tells stories during the lecture, but still manages to teach you everything you need to know for the testsexam.
Very confusing curriculum.
GIsmondi is a good prof. He really cares about his students and wants them to do well. He can be a bit scattered at times and isn't always the most clear when explaining concepts but he is very nice and will do everything he can to help you understand. He also has great stories which help make the class a bit better
Gismondi is a great prof. He is hilarious and always makes class interesting with his random comments and stories. Math 1080 is not hard if you keep up with the practice questions.
Def my favourite prof. His writing may be illegible at best but he's absolutely hilarious and more than willing to give you help or clarify things. He posts sample quizzes and tests that are nearly identical to the quizzestests so you always know exactly what you're going into. Also, he'll drop your term test marks if you do better on the final!
Very funny professor, unfortunately, his writing is difficult to read at best, and his lectures can ramble, with small stories in between note content.
Not the clearest prof but a very sweet person. The course is also really easy so its not a big deal that there was the occasional unclear lesson.
The course it's self is not difficult if you've taken calculus in grade 12. Gismondi should not be teaching this course at all, because he is no good at explaining. He skips steps, and does not explain things. He rushes through the material because he rambles on about life stories and his personal issues. Would not take a course taught by him again
Would never take a course taught by him again. Big mistake.
Failed MATH1080 last year with Gismondi, tried again this year, had to drop it. Not clear about concepts and rambles. You'll be fine if you're really good at math, but good luck if you're someone who needs in depth clarification for concepts.
His lectures are super confusing and he rarely finishes notes, claiming to "post them later" but rarely does. God bless my amazing high school calculus teacher because Gismondi was not cut out to teach either of these courses, which is probably why he doesn't anymore. He's a great guy don't get me wrong, but I ended up teaching myself the course.
He is a really well intentioned prof, but his tests and quizzes can be marked quite tightly, which was a pain in the way of part marks. While his classes were boring at times he did the most he could to make things fun.
Super friendly and sweet. He truly wants everyone to be successful. Didn't find him tricky at all. Loved the testing setup. If you memorized the mocks, you never had to go to class really and you'd still pass. Only complaint is that he does ramble and get off track a bit, but it's charming and doesn't do much harm. Wish more profs were like him.
Fun but though class. Hours of outside studying required on a daily basis.
Worst Prof. ever. Wastes so much time, confuses himself and other students. Didn't teach anything.
Overall this prof was very helpful and approachable. Always willing to explain concepts that students had trouble with and really want all students to succeed. Is willing to help in any way possible. Some lectures were a little confusing and this course requires a lot of practice and questions, but the course was enjoyable!
In this class you get the textbookworkbook and you go through it filling in the blanks. He might be a little confusing but he kept me interested in the subject. The quizzes are copies of the practice ones posted, just numbers changed. He taught the class in a way that kept me engaged most of the time, his stories are great.
Awful prof for 2080! He was great for 1080 but in 2080 his notes are a mess, he moves quickly and he doesnt explain the content very well at all. I havent been able to learn anything from this class. I wouldn't take this class unless you have to or you are really good at calculus. However, Gismondi is a great guy, just an awful prof for this class
Loved him as a prof. By far my favourite of the semester. Yeah he'd get off topic and flustered and get into funny stories but he was so quirky and hilarious. If you actually go to class, follow along, and do the homework you should be good. Tests and quizzes are almost identical to practice ones.
Other than the 2nd term test (which in the end will probably be dropped because everyone will fail it), the content is identical to the mocks. Gismondi is alright at explaining things, but will ramble off during lectures about his life or Spider-man.
He is really funny and clearly genuinely cares about students. If you took calculus in grade 12, you will do fine in this class. He seems very willing to help students. You do notes and learn concepts together in class and he goes over concepts with you. I found it easy to follow and understand most concepts immediately during class.
He can ramble a bit and be somewhat unclear, but is approachable and sets 6 hours a week for office time for you to go and talk to him if you need something. As well he's a large advocate for student learning groups and is really a good person, even if he is a bit scatterbrained.
Gismondi is willing to help when you go to his office hours, yet he was very disorganized with this class. You can't read his writing half the time and he goes on tangents in class. The textbook wasn't helpful and you ended up teaching yourself the entire course. He shouldn't be teaching any class that doesn't have a published workbook.
Such a sweet professor!!
Gismondi is an amazing prof! Very kind, he really does want his students to do well and he sets up many times to meet with him. I struggle in math and I did not dread going to his lectures.
Such a nice guy. Talks a lot in lectures about unrelated things but gets through the content on time. Tries to make it as interesting as possible and his stories are usually pretty funny. Make sure to keep on top of homework otherwise it's hard to catch up for tests. I would've failed the class if he didn't bump everyone's final marks by 2%.
He sets up the course for everyone to succeed. He is very much for the students. Very easy and simple class. Just do the homework, DON'T procrastinate and his class is easy. Only 2 tests and if you do better on the final the tests don't count. He tends to go off on tangents not about math, but it makes the lectures more fun to listen to.
Gismondi has all the right intentions but his teaching methods just did not work with me. He is not structured and his lectures are messy and uncoordinated, often missing major points you needed for that week's test/quiz. Nice guy, not so nice of a prof.
Amazing prof! You can tell he really loves math and tries to share his love to help you understand. He is extremely considerate when it comes to re-grading term tests, which makes students' jobs less stressful.
If you put in the work, this class is doable. If you struggle with math, DON'T GET BEHIND. Do the modules, get hold of old tests and quizzes, and you should be okay. The quizzes are only 15 minutes and can be tricky. If you have to take this class, or really like math, take it with him over the other options.
I've had Gismondi for two courses now and he is one of the greatest teachers I've ever had. He not only teaches the course material, but gives the gift of knowledge of all his students. He is visibly passionate about mathematics and teaching. He's the kind of teacher you never forget, even long after you forget the course.
Gismondi is a very sweet guy. Very willing to help. However, his classes could have been 30min shorter. He went off on irrelevant tangents and his notes were not always clear. The math TAs saved my life. He's so sweet you let your guard down for tests, but they are very tough. A very hard class if you don't do the work and ask for help.
A sweet, funny professor who would never refuse a question.
He's a very funny professor but sometimes he tends to get off topic. He goes too slow for students who have taken calculus in high school but too fast for ones who haven't. Speeds through integration so I needed to watch a youtube video to understand.
Amazing prof, he definitely makes math a little more bearable. His lectures can be confusing at times, but if you ever need clarification he is 100% there for you. His assessments can be pretty tough, and his grading criteria is pretty cut throat, but if you stay on top of it and you're pretty good at math you should get a good grade.
Gizmo is an interesting prof! Very energetic but sometimes confusing and tends to get distracted easily. Crams a lot of information into 1 lecture.
Great guy, awful professor. He was funny, shared lots of stories, and was very approachable. However, he is inconsistent with his pace in teaching, he goes off on tangents and overall was hard to follow when it came to the course material. I struggled with him as a professor.
I really love Gismondi because he sees the broader perspective, the bigger picture, maybe spiritual. Approachable as well. At times, he gets lost in thought but WILL TO COME BACK to reality! Efficient and interesting. GREAT for those easily distracted!!!!! The only problem is: at least once a lecture he will teach but not keep it in camera view.
He's super all over the place, and his term tests are sneaky and weighted super heavily. I did amazingly in high school calculus and used to love the subject, but he made me hate it! 10/10 take it with another prof!
Good prof, but he likes to go off on inspirational "tangents". Material isn't too hard. There's 2 written term tests where you can get part marks, and 3 online quizzes. Do the homework and you'll be fine. "Math problems are easier than life problems" Wise words of Steve Gismondi
Lectures are awful, cannot understand a single thing he wrote. Monitor wasnt in focus 99% of the time, sped through things and doesnt know how to explain anything. Would rather break every limb in my body than take this class again.
Good guy but terrible subject. He goes off topic alot too. I was very good at math in high school (95+) but this kicked my butt. The material isnt that hard and makes you feel confident going into the term tests (false hope! those TT ruined me!). Lots of work to stay on top of. This course made me hate a subject i use to love.
Gismo is an absolute gem. Gives the best inspirational life lessons at the most random times during class. He made this class bearable, despite it still being difficult concepts to grasp. We had complex assignments bi-weekly, but if you work as a group and go to his office to ask questions, he'll basically give you all the answers.
Gismondi is hilarious and unbelievably positive all the time. He's easily distracted and has trouble pacing the work sometimes. Other than that, I found the class to be about what I expected. It's math, you're gonna have to put in time and do work. Term tests were kinda tough and the final was pretty easy. The key is to use prior tests as guides.
Great teacher, had a low 70 in high school calculus, and ended up with an 88 in this class.
Good prof. He frequently got off topic during lectures which made it hard to focus, but when he was on topic he had very clear explanations. One of the most caring profs I've had, and always willing to help. Gave easy quizzes that were mark boosters, and midterms/final were reasonable.
Gismondi is a gem. He makes a difficult course manageable and genuinely cares about the students he teaches. He is accessible outside lectures and is willing to help you understand any concept no matter the complexity. The midterms were fair especially with the practice midterms he releases (make sure you do these). The final is more difficult.
Very nice and funny guy but I did not like his lectures. He went off on tangents all the time which made it hard to focus. I found this class very difficult despite excelling in math in high school (95+). You definitely have to put in the work every week.
I respect him as a person he was very caring and funny. However, he rambled a lot in class and gets off topic a lot. The vocabulary he uses is difficult and the concepts he teaches will never be used again. He gave ridiculous calculations and graphs despite not being allowed a calculator. I suggest to always get extra help from SLG or TA's.
Love him. so nice, funny, and energetic his notes are amazing super neat and easy to follow! would recommend him to anyone but sit in the front row so you can really absorb all of his good energy.
I really liked Gismondi. He does tend to go on a lot of tangents, but I found that to be a nice brain break from calculus during the 80 min, 8:30 class in War Mem. He genuinely cares about his students and is just generally a really nice person. The course notes and lectures were easy to follow and there were lots of examples.
Great hair
A little scatter brained but very approachable!
Gismondi is a great prof. He's very nice, caring, and approachable. He's definitely passionate about the material he teaches, thus making it a better environment in the class. The content, however, is difficult so don't skip class and make sure to use the resources provided (SLG, TA etc). if you have any questions as him! He'll be glad to explain.
Math has never been my forte but this class was made for an easy pass and Gismondi made it fun and exiting while you took it. He's funny, smart and knowledgable great guy!
gismondi is such a gem! although he goes off on tangent quite often during lectures, it is a nice break from the 80 minutes of calculus that you have to go through. Super helpful and the class is set up for success. such a nice guy!
Gismondi is the best professor Ive had. This is my second time having him and he always shows up to class with a smile on his face ready to deliver a great lecture with amazing enthusiasm. He is so greatly respected by students and he is so caring and actually wants to get to know the class. His teaching makes the 8:30 am class so worth it!
Gismondi really cares about his students. He has lots of office hours to give students the opportunity to get help. If you go to him, hell tell you what you need to know and clarify anything youre having difficulty with.
While prof. Gismondi has very good stories he often gets side tracked with them and distracts you from the course material. He is very helpful outside of class which is good when you need a question broken down. However, inside of class his teaching style is lackluster, he more so reads rather than teaches so explanations are not always great.
Best prof
best prof I've had so far he is so sweet and helpful. he always makes himself available for an hour after lecture to sit and answer questions or even talk. he is very helpful and understanding, if you ever need to take calc try and get him he was nothing but amazing
Professor Gismondi is wonderful. I struggled with math but I somehow got through it because of the extra help he gave us. He's a professor who acts like a human being. He understands how hard the adjustment is from High School to University, and he's compassionate when your putting in the work. He's personable and makes math less intimidating.
Need textbook and don't buy used. He wants you to succeed he post old midterm and USE them they are VERY helpful and very close to the one you will write. Must go to class but he makes lecture go by quickly because he's really nice and funny.
Super funny and nice but the hardest course ever!
MATH1080 - Overall a good introductory course. Lectures are pretty structured but can get messy. Textbook helps, mock exams are good practice. MATH2080 - A significantly harder course. Notes are all hand-written and a lot more messy than MATH1080. People switch programs because of this course. Attend lectures and take notes, and OFFICE HOURS HELP!
Great prof but hard course
the 1080 class is a joke in comparison to the 2080 class. With 1080 i went to maybe 3 lectures total, did basically no homework, and finished with 90. For math 2080 You absolutely need to go to class, and suplementary extra help is really worth it. This really felt like an intensive, university level math class. Good guy, very accesible.
Gismondi is clearly a good person and a nice guy, but for a calculus teacher he is not very good. Is very confusing when explaining and goes over things far too fast for students to grasp properly.
Doesn't explain lectures well
Go to the labs
Really fun person but not a very clear professor. Really nice but spends way too long on simple concepts that everyone understands and then speeds through the new material. Labs are also extremely fast paced but they are run by TAs, not Gismodni. Practice tests are extremely helpful, so do as many as you can and keep up with the homework modules
Loved this professor. He was so funny and a really nice person. Honestly, I do not like math but the way he talked about it and visualized functions and derivatives really spiked my interests and inspired me to learn more. Highly recommend.
Super fun guy, makes lots of funny comments that make long lectures bearable. Although the lectures are pretty boring (I mean, it is calculus), he really does care about the content and always listens to students' comments.
Great guy
Cutest prof you will ever have and he always has funny stories that help to make long lectures more bearable. He has office hours after each class making him easily accessible and answers all questions. Labs are supper important as questions are taken from them for tests/exams. I highly recommend doing practice tests as many questions are identical
Gismondi is the, in my opinion, one of the kindest teachers at guelph. He really cares about you and wants everyone to succeed. He works through examples at a good speed but will stop at any point if you have any questions at all. Amazing teacher!
I really liked his way of teaching and he's one of my favourite profs at this university. The term tests are very similar to the ones he posts online and are focused on material from labs.
Gismondi was a great prof! He got off topic and distracted often during class time, but always finished the notes on schedule. He really screwed us over on the exam this past semester. But the midterm tests were very fair, and almost identical to the ones online. Best of luck, cant say Im sad that this class is over for good!
Gismondi was funny. He was really smart, and knew what he was talking about. I just found it really hard to understand him cause his teaching style was not my thing! I found it difficult to understand concepts the way in which he had portrayed them. I would however take him again over some other profs.
This is a great prof that made 830 lectures bearable for an hour and twenty minutes of calculus. The final was a curveball but Gismondi was a good prof. Make sure to follow along with the modules and stay on top of it because it goes quickly.
Gismondi was a great prof and seemed like a sweet guy. Got off topic easily but I didn't mind bc it was a break from the course. Class mandatory bc he doesn't post slides. The "textbook" was fill in as you go and he filled it out during class. Midterms were fair, not too hard. For me the hardest part were the labs and this one drug question.
For all the profs of math1080, gismondi is definitely the best, but that doesn't change that the course is extremely difficult. His notes are very thorough and you can find him outside of class for help, but he teaches some concepts like he assumes everyone took grade 12 calc and has basic knowledge.
Very lazy. he doesn't even have any recorded lectures for the online class, he just hands you a textbook and says learn. He does not teach the class anything, we teach ourselves. Its very disappointing I think he could do better.
I'm taking it right now and I don't understand anything. Its very bad
This review is for the online version of this course. The online lectures are recorded in case you miss them. He is accessible outside of class. The final exam is extremely difficult. Workload is not heavy.
STEVE ROCKS. gives great life advice, which means he can get carried away on tangents in lecture but its so fun. we had three online quizzes with unlimited attempts (encouraged to get 100%), two midterms and a final worth 43%. all open book, but final was very hard. it was his first year back in person, and im so glad i got to have him as my prof!
Amazing prof who cares about his students! Midterms were easy and he wants you to do well in the class.
This prof seems to give up for his online classes. Wont even take the time to record lectures, everything is self taught with no available help. Wont even respond to emails. Needed a mid term extension due to medical issues (filled out form, talked to academic advisor, and provided doctors note) and he never responded, grading me a 0. AVOID
Very fair assessments although last quiz is tricky with intervals but other than that all questions we fair game, 50% exam was a little scary but it was online .
The tests are unreasonably hard tbh
Do not take calculus 2 with him. The assignment questions are nearly impossible to do "correctly". Will teach you basic concepts then throw you in the ocean for the assignments. He's a nice guy but the questions don't relate to course content that well
HONESTLY, THIS IS THE WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN IN UNI. This professor's writing is worse than doctors, and does not explain anything at all. His class had 4 quizzes that make up the whole grade, but the questions make absolutely no sense, even the TAs don't know how to solve them (keep in mind, these are TAs that do REAL math, not this BS).
Gigachad teacher, ez dubs
Gismondi makes this challenging math course bearable with his engaging lectures. Attendance is a must, as he doesn't post slides. The workload is manageable, and unstuck ai was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
I took Math 1080 online, best decision ever. Although very few grading opportunities, only 7 quizzes, a midterm and a final exam determined a final grade. All asynchronous, but not homework-heavy at all. If you took calculus in grade 12, just a review of it. All lessons are brought either by textbook or youtube videos. Very easy to navigate!
Great prof and so understanding. At the end of the semester I emailed him asking if I could redo a quiz and he allowed me another chance without hesitation. His lessons were short but they all had recommend homework from the textbook so you knew what to study. I think he had online hours but I never went. Also all tests and mid/exams are open book.
