this dude is retarded but will give you a good grade
If you have a hard time in math, I highly recommend this professor. He slowly goes over chapters and is more then willing to help you during and after class.
He is a nice man, but not the best teacher. He tends to get off topic and then come back saying that whatever he just explained wouldn't be on the quiz...so a waste of time. You may get lost and annoyed in his class, but the tests are basic and you will do well if you read the book. He wants it to be easy, he just gets lost himself sometimes.
Hes a nice man. He is not good at explaining at all. If math is hard for you do not take his class, he will only confuse you more. Its an easy A but you have to teach yourself and i doubt I will be prepared for my next math class.
This man cannot teach this class. He's always trying to crack jokes and then he gets way off subject. He'll teach you something and then say oh but you dont have to worry about that. he also makes a million mistakes during class and the students have to correct him. my advice: dont take his class :(
Okay, no offense to anyone, but this class is the easiest class I've ever taken. He's not hard, he's super easy, everyone in my class just seems to be SLACKERS! Homework is optional, he doesn't take attendence and he will explain something over and over again, just so you can understand it. If you're not a COMPLETE idiot in math, take him.
Great guy, but horrible teacher. Try to help but some how gets way off topic. Happens almost everyday. Just pay attention if you don't really understand math he can teach you a little bit but the rest just read your book. Its not hard at all.
completley useless. no point in going, though he doesnt require attendance.
he is the worst teacher i have ever had and i wish i could get my money back
very confusing likes to use calculator
THIS GUY HELPS TO MUCH. HE GOES OVER SOME OF THE SAME PROBLEMS FOR STUDENTS WHO DIDN'T SHOW UP TO CLASS.
Nice guy, but he doesn't know how to teach, at all. Relies way too much on the calculator, and often doesn't get the correct answer anyway. You're better off teaching yourself from the book.
do not waste your time going to his class. he does not check attendence, there are no quizzes. few assignments and tests. but you MUST teach all the material to yourself. he does not explain anything and assumes you already know the material.
If you are out to learn mathematics, I would avoid him. He struggles to do simple algebraic problems without a calculator, even if this means making the problem three times harder and longer. If I didn't know this material from high school, I wouldn't be doing so well. If you know the material, his class is an easy A.
He's a nice guy, but that's about it. He stands in front of the board when he's going through the steps, he can barely explain anything, he's always contradicting himself, and in the middle of teaching he'll either go into history or psychology, he makes mistakes ALL the time, be prepared to teach yourself.
great guy, I myself have a hard time with math. I would take this professor over and over again. He can be funny especially when he sips on his water bottle all through class. Have fun!
He's a nice guy, but tends to get a little off-topic at times. The class is very easy , and you actually will learn if you pay attention. Be warned, however: he like to do nearly every single problem on his calculator...not very effective for those who like to see problems written out on the board, but he will write them out when it's requested.
I liked this professor. Although he can get off topic and can be difficult to understand at times, i just asked for help after class and he gladly helped. He showed me everything step by step. He does give random quizzes to ensure attendance, so dont miss. I enjoy This class, and if you pay attention and go to class it's an easy A.
I suck at math, always have. This was by far the easiest math class I have ever taken. And I was so scared to be taking Stats. He does EVERYTHING with a calculator, which is practical. He does go off topic but his stories always relate to Stats. Attendance isnt mandatory. He is always willing to help out and is flexible with deadlines. Take him!
If you are considering taking professor Howell for STATS, trust me you will do just fine. All of his test are multiple choice and you don't have to show any work what soever. Also he gives out homework that he doesn't even check. Take that class and recommend all of you friends. You will victorious.
This is by far the best math teacher I have EVER had. I really liked how practical he was in his teachings and expectations of students. He is a very nice man and is always willing to stay after class and answer questions you have.
What Can I Say? He's Greeet! By Far The Best Math Teacher At SFC. He's Testes Are EASY And You Dnt Need The Textbook (Great). If You Want A Good Grade... TAKE HOWELL!!!
I was nervous about taking STATS at first.. but this is the best math teacher at SFC. He made the material so easy and everything is on a calculator. you dont need the book at all. Easiest A class ever! Love mr. Howell! He is amazing!!! Wish I could take him for more classes!
Mr. Howell is a must take! I suck at math in so many ways, and I still suck after taking his class, but it is so worth the "A" I got! You don't ever have to show up, quizzes are graded on a "if you attempted to do the work" basis and the tests are the exact same handouts he gives you in class.
He is a very easy teacher and loves to smile.
Easiest math teacher I've ever had. Stats class is all on the calculator. It is basically just plugging numbers in the calculator. Highly recommend!!!!
Easy Easy Easy Take Howell for an easy A, wish all math teachers would be like him. He is great.
Porf. Howell is Wonderful! The class is basically the "Calculator" never knew the thing did so much. But easy class no stress at all trust me! If someone failed it is because their head is missing for real there is no other way to an A! Best teacher. Take him!
Good class, nice guy, Will help u if u need it.
Howell is a good guy. I took his class in Spring A. It was easy and you have to be dumb not to make an A. Very attainable A. Tests and quizzes are easy. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM.
Hr. Howell is the best teacher Santa Fe has. He actually cares about the students, and wants them to do well. His class though will become a lot harder in the Fall. If you are not good in math take him because he will help you suceed.
Mr Howell is the best teacher at Santa Fe. He actually cares about the students, and wants them to do well. His class will become harder in the Fall, take him anyway because he is a great professor.
The absolute worst teacher I have had in my life!!! Got mad or upset when someone asked questions, always said "I only get payed for contact hours" and was very unhelpful. My gpa was a 4.0 before taking him!! WARNING: DO NOT TAKE HIM!! the worst in everyway!!
The worst teacher I have seen in my entire life! Gets mad if you ask questions, and accuses students of "thinking hes trying to pull a fast one" Palease!! Do NOT take hime..it will be a huge mistake!
Maybe he just had a bad semester, but he is nothing short of awful when it comes to teaching. He knows his stuff, but it's near impossible for him to put it into words. I'll have to retake this class just to learn the material. Also, the college cracked down on him about easy tests, they are not easy anymore.
Professor Howell rocks. Easiest class I ever took, seriously. If you don't care at all about Statistics and want an EASY A, take this class. I missed the final exam and he gave it to me the day after on his time. Kindest teacher on campus.
If you cant pass this class something is wrong. Dont get the book, he goes by his notes. Test are easy considering he gives you a "hint sheet" with everything you need. willing to feed questions. easiest class ive taking in college
He is a very nice teacher, however, he fails to produce clear answers to sometimes clear questions. Class can be boring and he doesn't mind classroom chatter while he's talking. His notes are the only vital source of success. He does use a hint sheet. His quizzes and tests aren't hard as long as effort is given.
EASY A class! Ridiculously easy! Everything is on the calculator, the questions on the tests are phrased as if they were guidelines to the answers. And outrageously, he helps students A LOT during the exams if they have any questions, that really shocked me and some other students who actually studied the material before taking the exams.
Very easy, probably because the material is so boring. He just gave the fundamentals, told some interesting stories surrounding statistics and then taught us how to use the calculator to get an A on all of the tests. There are some homeworks but mainly your grade comes from the tests so just focus on putting everything in properly.
He is a very nice and helpful teacher but this class is not as easy as everyone says. I actually had to get a tutor. He doesn't mind giving good grades to students who have EARNED THEM! Just be prepared to put forth some effort and you will do good.
Notes are unnecessarily detailed, I've used tutors and friends to try and understand the babble. The course is harder than the prior ratings would have you believe. A kind professor but a poor teacher. He could teach higher level courses but I would not recommend him for an intro course. My grade does NOT reflect my understanding.
TRUST me if I say this class is easy it is! Of course all classes take some time to study, it isn't going to be handed to u...If you read his outline, study it, and know how to use the calculator you'll be fine. Multiple choice tests! He's pretty corny but whatever gives me an A..btw i wouldnt buy the textbook!!!
Nice guy, terrible teacher. He may have been good at one time, but no longer is. The ONLY reason I was able to get an A in this course is because of my tutor. If you are really good at teaching yourself or have a lot of outside help, it is an easy A, if not, don't take this course with him. Believe the negative reviews!
He is not the best professor but the class is easy. Don't buy the book. He is going to give you some notes. Quizzes multiple choice, no attendance required, and you can have a piece of paper with the formulas or definitions.
Ridiculous. I'm a straight-A student and dropped after the second class. I have no idea what he was talking about.
Suuupppeerrr Easssyyy! He has to be the best Stats teacher ever. During lectures its very hard to understand what he's talking about but his homeworks tell you what to do and its all done on the calculator. Multiple choice tests, attendance not required, and you can use a cheat sheet on tests and the final!
His lectures are unnecessarily complicated and babble on, but once you figure out he is spending 15 minutes to describe a single simple calculator function, you can ignore it. Easy class, easy A if you can use a TI-83. Don't buy the book, we NEVER used it. Everything you need to know is on a sheet he gives you, and you can use it on the tests.
Best stats teacher EVERR! He is very easy to understand, and if u don't, talk to him after class or in his office. He is more than happy to show u how to work the homework problems. Once he shows u how, it's easy! Very straight forward assignments, he's a nice guy so don't be rude to him! People in my class never showed up and expected an A, WRONG!
I have taken Stats 2x before and failed them horribly. I typically could never understand the homework. I took this course and turned in all the hw! Although he is a litte vague on instruction, I went on youtube to clarify what he explained in class. NO book needed all info on pp! he will give xtra credit and help you understand.
He is a very nice professor, but gets off topic and spends 20 minutes talking about the same concept he could have said in 2 minutes. He does all Stat work on a calculator. 5 assignments and 2 tests. He allows a full page of notes during tests. I wouldn't bother going to class. He's a bit of a pushover, and postpones test and homework due dates.
Take notes from online handouts that he posts on Canvas. Do the homework. Buy a graphing scientific calculator (TI-83 or newer). Don't buy the book, unless you can teach yourself. Teach yourself using his course outline, handouts, and hw. He lets you make half-page "notecards" to bring to each test (all previous "notecards" for final). MAKE THEM.
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. I panicked at first because I didn't understand anything he was saying so i bought the book and I have yet to open it. The class is easy. Great guy but gets off topic alot. His outlines are very helpful so study off that. We get to have a cheat sheet on tests and its multiple choice. Honestly worth taking easy A. Only 4 test
Explains Stats like he invented the subject. In a way that a child can understand
No need for the book, no need to go to class... you learn from doing your homework's that tell you how to do each problem. You have 5 homework's, 2 tests & a final which you can use cheat sheets on everything. He is awful at teaching, is very unclear & confusing but is a super nice guy and his class is easy to pass if you do things on your own.
HE is very nice, there is no need to buy the textbook unless you want extra problems to work out. Everything you need to know is in his powerpoints, Tests are straight from his powerpoints. He doesn't allow notes for tests anymore, but does provide a problem sheet on each test. Tests are multiple choice, If you study you will pass!
I never understood a word this man said. I never missed class, but i had to get a tutor and pretty much teach myself. Good guy though and it's an easy class if you can teach yourself everything!
Umm... i never went to more than 4 classes and just studied the excercise answers he put online. It isnt too tough, but practice. You will have to teach yourself but it is really easy if you just look at the answer sheet for the exercises..
Most of the time I never learned anything in class. You do not need the book, just make sure to do the exercises. He is normally good an answering any questions you have if you ask him after class but not during class. The first 2 exams are hard but the last 3 are easy. He gave us a review for the final but didn't do an answer key.
HE is a nice guy. VERY confusing. everything is on his notes. 5 tests, no homework or quizzes. he will help you if you ask but it's easier to learn from class mates or tutor in lab. Basically teaching yourself. tests are multiple choice so if you do the work sheets he hands out before tests you will pass.
He's very nice but very confusing. Seriously, I went to every class and still have no idea what he said. You basically have to teach yourself. Tests are multiple choice and easy. He's a known Easy A. Just a very boring class. He also has no idea how to use a computer so grades are not posted until the end of the semester.
He's a retired adjunct that makes the class so easy all you need to remember is how to use your calculator. the exams are 33 questions but really its like 8 because theres 3-5 pieces of data for each word problem and the calculator lays them all out for you. I had to take intermediate Algebra 3 times and college algebra twice and I received a 97%
The only graded work is test, and he talks to people like they are stupid for asking a question!
He isn't a bad teacher but his method of teaching isn't for me. He doesn't use the textbook at all and he talks for most of the class period, doing demonstrations at random. I never knew what chapter we were on, so i had to teach myself. If you just do the reviews that he gives and look over the notes he puts on canvas, you'll be fine. Not hard!
Professor Howell does not provide any directions or instructions to his students. When a student asks a question, instead of answering he goes off on a completely different topic that does not relate to the question. Also, he does not learn the students' names and basically works with himself instead of helping us understand.
All you are graded on is test. Don't dare to ask a question he will look and reply to you like you are absolutely stupid.
Honestly, he is really funny and kind. His class is overall pretty easy. If you have any really important questions it is best to ask him after class. He pretty much lectures the full class but gives out very helpful take home tests and provides good formulas to help you do well.
This guy honestly should not be teaching college statistics. Doesn't even know how to do half of the hard problems that were on the test. Always shows up late, can't explain anything. The only thing you are graded on is tests and quizzes. Do not take his course if you want to pass. No practice problems are ever assigned either.
He is a very nice guy, but not the professor for me. His classes consist of half the class missing and him reading off his notes he's been using for 12 years, which are VERY outdated. They don't cover info on the homework or tests, so you're left teaching yourself. He DOES give you formulas and tips on the tests, which is the only reason I passed.
This guy was the best professor I have ever had. He is charming, funny, and makes math easy. He gives good feedback and gives you a cheat sheet to help you on tests. Also will help you after class on homework. I've never been good at math and the lowest grade I've got on a test is a 95.
Gives a take-home test as a grade booster. His course is not very hard at all if you really do the homework and read the chapter outlines he posts (material isn't difficult for me.) I found him to occasionally get tired of dealing with students. Kind of a lazier professor. Tests are 20 questions and frankly not hard. Homework is easy as well. Meh.
First, dont buy the textbook you will never touch it in class all he does is read his notes and make jokes about himself from 100 years ago. Dont ask questions because he will be very condescending and not even answer your questions. Not once in this class did I learn anything and I paid attention everyday. He doesnt show or post grades, etc.
Mr. Howell is a good professor, he class is really easy and during test if you dont understand something he will help you understand better.
I enrolled in Prof. Howell's class for Sum. C and dropped after the 2nd class. He told everyone if they want a professor who "uses the textbook, goes in order and updates grade" to drop him immediately, so I did. I only had 2 classes but I can honestly say I didn't think I would learn Stats whatsoever. GodSpeed to everyone who stayed in that class.
First off I am terrible at math. The first few classes took some getting used to considering he does things the old fashioned way, But after that period was over Mr. Howell became my favorite professor. Majority of the work is done on the calculator. If you show up and pay attention you will pass his class easily.
Mr. Howell is an angel, he gives you assignments that have the same material that you will see on his tests. He tries to help in anyway he can when you are testing and allows you to come up to him if you are struggling with a problem. 10/10 recommend!!
Overall I had a good experience. He helps you with anything you need, even tests. He does really want to help you learn and as long as you follow along you will. I will say he was hard to contact outside of class although this could have been due to Covid-19 related issues.
I wouldn't have made it through Statistics without professor Howell - he made it as painless as possible. He gives multiple attempts at tests and no mandatory homework. He REALLY wants you to get an A. I dropped Stats once, then tried again with Howell the next semester. The difference was NIGHT AND DAY. Take Howell - you can thank me later.
AMAZING professor, seriously don't pick anyone else. There's zero homework, it's all quizzes, not including midterm or final. You have to be there in class to learn OR the professor hands guided instructions on how to learn on our own time if you don't understand something during the class. He REALY does care and sets study times for all students!
MY FAVORITE TEACHER AT Santa Fe! He really cares about you and answers all your questions literally the nicest professor. Also, if you don't understand a problem he will go through it with you step by step.
If I could, I would take this professor for every single one of my classes. He is super sweet and very easy. If you want to actually learn math don't take his class but if you just want the easy A, take it. Theres about 6 quizzes, 1 midterm, and 1 final. NO HOMEWORK!!! Trust me, I hate math and this was the best decision I could've made! 10/10
Straight up rude when you ask a question. Has a bunch of homework you won't understand because he doesn't teach. Instead he goes on rants about random things.
Prof. Howell is a very nice person, but cannot stay on topic at all and makes the topics of the class more confusing than they need to be. His exams are nothing like the reviews and he cannot figure out canvas so he doesn't enter grades into the grade book. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!!
Class material was not horrible but Professor Howell just cannot teach. He knows what he is talking about but he cannot articulate. He does not put grades in until the last second so you have to know what you have. Overall the class is not hard but he makes it difficult.
Professor Howells, is amazing, Stat is easy if you study and listen to him. You will not see your grade but if you do good then your good. He's available before and after class, zoom or email. If you watch his video you will learn more. He even help you during exam. So take him if you can.
He has 6 online quizzes and 3 tests, plus the final exam. He is non-judgmental when you struggle, and very sweet. He rambles about history he's interested in, but his tests are simple if you finish the (optional) HW he offers. His class is so easy if you are kind, respectful, and engage with him. I'm horrible at math, but I got an A in the class.
The professor wasn't bad, it's just that he doesn't grade immediately or it'll take him a while to grade your assignments. He's also a talker so get ready to listen. Ultimately, he's very helpful no matter the assignment.
I only attended 4 classes all semester and still earned high Bs and As on all exams. His practice problems line up perfectly with the tests, study those and you'll do great. Logged into Canvas maybe 8 times and still finished with an A. The downsides, he wont put your exams into canvas until the last week, and the 3 exams make up 76% of grade.
While it may seem that this class is free, I would advise you to proceed with caution unless you really need to take statistics. Some do fine with minimal studying but others need to put in a lot more effort to get a good/passing grade. Professor was very lax, no complains whatsoever.
