very easy to listen to and understand, totally interested and knowledgeable in his field
Great teacher
brilliant!
The dude is good, oh yes, he is good - but going bald
He's an excellent teacher
Ilardi is hyper. hilarious. brilliant. Two one-page papers. about 300 students and he tries to learn everyone's name! plays music before each lecture. I think he's better than Holmes. Holmes gets mixed reviews, but everyone loves Ilardi.
He is honestly the best teacher I've ever had. He is very smart and funny. He made going to class a great experience. Definitely take a class from him if you get the chance!!!!!!!!
AWESOME BRILLIANT PROF! He definately deserves the H.O.P.E. Everyone shold take is class, is easy, is fun, is informative!
He is a great guy and a very smart man in his field. He makes class fun and has a great sense of humor. His tests aren't the easiest thing though. Some questions have choices a-i which makes it hard. He talks a lot from his head which makes it hard to right everything down. But get him for a prof
He's a fun teacher that made sitting in class for 1hour20 mins fun and interesting. The test are kinda hard, but I actually enjoyed the class and thought it was very interesting. Take this class--or any class he teaches!
Great enthusiasm for the subject, extremely helpful in and out of class, good sense of humor.

Unlike Holmes, I took two classes from Illardi, and loved every minute of them. I think he's a great teacher with enthusiasm for the subjects he teaches. I really enjoyed Personality (psych 120); even writing the long analysis paper at the end was fun. I l
awesome class! life changing! Take it!
Ilardi is fabulous. I wasn't TOO interested in PSYCH, but heard it was a fun class and by far it has been my favorite class + teacher out of many classes that I've had here at KU. He's fun and very into it. He uses personal stories also, so it makes you feel like you can speak in front of 300 people without being nervous.
Dr. illardi is EXTREMELY funny.. tests are all essay, but if you go to the review sessions they tell you what the essays are, class is never boring!

loved it!!
he is an really funny teacher, and makes every class really interesting
SOO GOOD! I loved this class....VERY easy if you go to class. Ilardi was awesome, adorable, and fun.
Great Class, I loved it and he kept my interest which is hard to do!! Really interesting and I would recommend this class to anyone, definitely one of my fav. teachers at KU.
Great teacher! I loved going to this class, he teaches to students level and is really funny.Brian his TA was hot too
Best class ever, maybe the most important pysch class you can take at KU. Inspires dozens to be psych majors and grad students every year, and that has a great deal to do with Ilardi. Expect information that's at the grad level to be understood easily.
Best professor I've ever had. Always kept the class interesting and was available anytime a student needed. Tests are pretty simple if you attend class and he makes it so you want to go to class.
VERY COOL TEACHER!!! HE HAS A WAY OF TEACHING THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO LEARN. HE IS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT HE IS TEACHING. GREAT PERSONALITY AND VERY FUN CLASS!!!
My favorite class of college so far! I looked forward to going everyday in large part due to Dr. Ilardi. He makes everything exciting and interesting.
Dr. Ilardi is by FAR the best professor I have ever had while being in college. He is engaging, he has a lot of actual student participation during class (it works even in the large class), and he has a passion for what he does. You fall in love with the GOOD of psychology because of what he expresses. His energy and humor is the icing on the cake!
I never miss a class! Each day is so interesting, and he makes it fun to learn it! One of the best professors ever! Even if you don't major in psychology..take this class!
Great prof, keeps everyones interst. Makes class fun;-)
He rules!
I took this class last semester, and it was one of the greatest classes i've ever taken. The ta's are awesome too. Ilardi and the TA's had a competition to memorize everyones face with their names in the 300 person class. tests are all essay, but the TA's offer review sessions where they basically give you almost all the answers! TAKE THIS CLASS!
He is awesome! Easy to understand and interacts so well. Besides that he's entertaining. He'll make you laugh everytime! I actually wanted to go to his class. I highly recommend him.
best teacher ive ever had
Steve is probably the best professor at KU. I really enjoyed this class, it was both interesting and manageable. The tests were very easy and I got A's on every one which allowed me to opt out of the final. There is a final project which consists of a 10 page (at least) paper, demonstrating your knowledge of the class. It was actually really cool.
Dr. Ilardi is the best teacher I have EVER had! He is so interesting & knows so much about the subject. If you go to class every time and take good notes you can easily get an A in the class. Also, if you take good notes you don't need the book. I bought it and never even used it b/c I learned it all in his lectures.
I have to admit that I was not enrolled in his class, but attended almost every class period. I loved going to his lectures. Very entertaining and informational. Has to be the best professor on the KU campus!
Dr. Ilardi is awesome! he knew what he was talking about and made the topics interesting. he gets into his lectures and makes sure you do too. best teacher ive ever had. take his class!!
Hands down, best teacher there is. All I can say is you have to take his class.
best professor i ever had! take good notes & your set. textbook is never used but still very interesting to skim through. he is an amazing public speaking and is so engaging in the lectures that you will be excited for "another riveting installment of psyc 120!"
best teacher at KU
Absolutely awesome class. I learned so much, and it was always fascinating.
I adore Dr. Ilardi. I loved going to his class! Everyone was upset on the last day of class; I saw a girl in tears. He's that awesome. You must take this course! It will probably be the best decision you make as an undergrad at KU.
Absolutely amazing professor. I've never lost interest in a single lecture. Fascinating stories, interesting points, clear info, and overall very helpful while still being agreeable and kind. I highly recommend going to every lecture -- lots of stuff on tests is only covered in-class, plus it's so interesting! Never a waste of time.
He is an excellent professor of psychology. He uses relatable stories and makes class fun when he knows it is getting boring. However, he lets lots of annoying people talk and ask questions. I wish he would use an example he knew was correct sometimes then letting some annoying girl bring up an irrelevant example.
If you're contemplating taking this class, it's a no brainer: you will not regret having ilardi. Personally, he's my favorite professor I had at KU. The test are 100% from lecture, so you should attend every one. However, his lectures are the most interesting of any i've had at KU (both the topic and him are superb). Take this class.
Take this class!!!! He is one of the best teachers i have ever had. the hardest part about this class is that it was on thursday and i would be all hungover from dollar night but it was still interesting to me once i got there, if you go to class and take good notes, he wont surprise you with the tests and you dont have to read a page in the book
This is a great teacher who is very engaging, organized and available if you have a question (even just for fun). Everything he covers in class might appear on the test, so show up for all the lectures and take detailed notes. The book is not used and I haven't even opened it.
This was a very interesting class. I had no trouble staying awake (which I usually do) and paying attention. He relates class to personal experiences and stories. Class is interesting. Highly recommended.
Steve is amazing! His classes are extremely entertaining and informative. He is very helpful and he is an amazing person to encounter.
Awesome class, Awesome teacher. Some of the material can be challenging but Awesome. Nuff said.
Dr. Ilardi is really awesome. His class is very interesting and fun to attend. The final project is very extensive and takes quite a bit of time. His tests are difficult, but he offers quite a bit of extra credit to boost your scores. Very fun and interesting class, but can be very difficult at times.
My favorite teacher i have had in my entire lifetime! He made me decide to minor in psychology. Very hilarious and interesting. No text book use and Exams are very easy if you just take good notes. He makes students look forward to attending lectures... I was actually disappointed if i missed one of his lectures. VERY RECOMMENDED!
Ilardi is unlike any other professor I've had. He is VERY friendly and opens the lecture of 300 up for discussion to better understand topics. I almost feel like he is a friend of mine though he doesn't know me. I'll miss the class. No info from the book is on the tests. Study well for the tests. Final is an opt test and a 10 pg paper.
Brilliant professor anyway you look at it and a nice guy to boot. Never once used the book (though I did glance through it and it can be used as a supplement to his lectures) and everything he puts on the tests comes from his lectures. Which works as his lectures are some of the most interesting & engaging you will find. Take this class.
I had this guy for psyc 120 and he was so good i took him again for psyc 350! He is my favorite teacher at college and is the reason i want to minor in psych now. He makes the class incredibly interesting and is hilarious. The tests are quite easy too if you pay attention at all in class. He really makes it fun to attend lecture!
Probably one of the best professors I've had so far. He is amazing, and very helpful.
After 4 years of college he is by far the best and most interesting teacher. He makes his lectures extremely interesting and it is a fun class to go to. His tests come exclusively from the notes you take during class. As long as you take good notes they are easy. I recommend this class to anyone from any major for an elective.
WONDERFUL prof! He conducts his class like a talk show complete with intro music and viewer mail, makes class fun and interesting. Learned alot, with no homework/ readings. Easy to get an A
Seriously the BEST teacher I've ever had in college. He is hilarious, helpful, and a really good teacher. Learning the material was easy.
The absolute BEST teacher I've ever had! So awesome, he made the class and material extremely enjoyable. He really cares about his students well-being, and will do anything to help them. Always lots of students in class because he makes you not want to skip! Easy A if you go to class. Don't buy the textbook, you'll never open it once!
Sad to see the semester end, great teacher!
Well versed in his subject, he often inspired much discussion - impressive for a 300-person class. He TAUGHT everything you needed to know, instead of telling you to just read, which was nice. His talks about medications and his TLC program got old. He made himself available but was sometimes slow on responding to emails. Recommended!
Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. Brilliant, interesting and a great teacher. Attendance wasn't mandatory and there were rarely in-class assignments or quizzes but 95% of students showed up every day because class was fascinating. Learned a lot. Loved it.
One of the most engaging and entertaining teachers I've ever had. Go to class, you have to if you want to get a good grade but if you do and take good notes and review them a couple times nearly impossible to get a bad grade. Even the final project is interesting and easily able to exceed 10 page limit. Amazing teacher!
He is an AMAZING teacher. There is a reason there are no bad reviews. I never missed a class because every class was worth attending. You know a teacher is good when the front of the class fills up first and there is usually about 95% attendance.
BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD! Both my brother and sister advised me to take at least one of his classes while at KU, and I now see what they were talking about. The class was so interesting, I'm now considering changing my major to psychology. He is interesting, and always willing to talk to students after class. You will love him.
Dr. Ilardi is probably the most inspiring people I have ever met. He made me want to be a better person and his lectures were something I legitimately looked forward to every TR. He gives a lot of info without being boring.. Best teacher I have ever had and a phenomenal person all in one. I'm so sad I can't in his classes forever!
Seriously one of the best teachers at KU. His class is very interesting and fun, you don't want to miss it. Pretty easy to, so long as you pay attention to what he is saying in class. You don't really need to use your textbook, I never even opened mine, so you might not want to buy it. Great class though, the best one I have taken so far at KU.
Ilardi is amazing! Best prof. I have had at KU. Almost made me consdier switching to a psych major. This class is one of my top favorites at KU. Ilardi is passionate about his teaching and it really shows. Interesting stuff and great prof! Take this class if you can!
Dr. Ilardi is phenomenal! His lectures are thought-provoking, interesting, and worth showing up to. He genuinely cares about his classes and students and it shows. Tests are easy if you show up to lectures. I'm sad that this is my last semester having him as a professor. He really is the best! I miss him already and my class isn't even over!
Illardi is one of the most interesting teachers out there. He's passionate and well worth the money!!
He has been on of my favorite professors by far. Really great guy that really wants all of his students to do well and be involved in the class. The material is interesting and Ilardi makes it easy to stay engaged. Take this class!
Dr. Ilardi is by far the best teacher I've ever had. I've always had trouble attending classes, but I was always SO excited to go to his class every week. He is an amazing teacher - take his class!
Great teach
I took Dr. Ilardi's Psych 120 personality class and his Psych 350 abnormal class and he is by far the best proffessor I've ever had. He knows his stuff, and is always interesting. Lectures are not required but if you go to lecture the tests will be easy. And you drop lowest test grade so you can skip one test for a little added bonus.
Ilardi is by far one of the best professors at KU. TAKE HIS CLASS
Such a great teacher! I can actually listen through his lectures without dosing off. I suggest him to everyone
He is pretty great. He uses anecdotal examples that make the material really easy to remember. I never bought the textbook and am expecting an A in the class. Awesome, awesome guy. And really friendly!
Can not say enough good things about Ilardi. He made every lecture interesting and he really cares about his students.
Excellent class
Fascinating class, almost too much so. You will often be tempted to just sit back and listen to what he is saying but anything he says is game for the exams so you need to constantly take notes (even if it seems like it's not going to be on the test!). That being said, you don't even need to book since he does cover everything and more in class.
Hands down the best professor at KU. Literally, the only class I ever went to in which I was excited to attend every single day. Five-Stars.
Best professor I've had at KU so far. Engaging, intelligent, and actually makes me want to learn the material.
Dr. Illardi is the most engaging professor I have ever had. He loves his job and teaching. Attending class will help your test scores although class is not mandatory and his lectures can be found on Blackboard. You will WANT to go to his class.
Dr. Ilardi is the best instructor I have ever had. He is engaging and exceptionally intelligent. His tests are derived completely from his lectures and his lectures are very interesting, so this is not a class you will want to miss.
Best professor I have had thus far! You will love his lectures! Be in class and take good notes. Textbook is helpful, but not mandatory. Tests will be difficult if you do not engage in the class material. ANYTHING from lecture is fair game on exams. I highly recommend this class!
He is a very good lecturer, even though he seems to be a bit full of himself. I did not study much and ended up with a B. His class is much easier than the other Abnormal Psych professor.
He is a good lecturer--there is no doubt about that. However, I don't get why everyone is so obsessed...he is very arrogant. I don't think he always means to be, but he definitely comes off that way, and it is slightly demeaning. Anyway, his tests are kind of hard; make sure you study EVERYTHING in your notes, even the random stuff.
Prof Ilardi is a great teacher. He's funny, passionate, intelligent, and he really knows his material. Yes, he's got some swagger, but he also really cares about his students. Easily one of the best profs at KU!
I took both Abnormal and Personality Psych from Dr. Ilardi...very intelligent and easy to understand. I loved both classes and I think many students would find his lectures interesting and NOT boring in the least. The tests can be a bit challenging..but as long as you are coming to class & paying attention, you will do well! Best classes at KU!
Hands down THE best professor I've had at KU. Dr. Ilardi is incredibly engaging and interesting. I looked forward to going to this class. Dr. Ilardi is truly an exceptional and entertaining professor. He has a very dynamic teaching style. All test questions come from lectures, so don't buy the textbook. TAKE THIS CLASS! You will NOT regret it.
Easily the best Psych professor at KU. Offers a challenging course and is always fun to listen to. He can be a little cocky, but he's never condescending and always makes students feel good about asking questions.
He is a GREAT teacher! He knows what he's talking about and can be pretty interesting. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! You don't need it, it's a waste of money. For the tests, study EVERYTHING in your notes, make sure you remember examples given in class too. Overall, I loved him! Class was challenging but not impossible. Best teacher at KU!
AWESOME TEACHER!
FANTASTIC teacher. Seriously. TAKE HIS CLASS.
He is easily the BEST professor at KU. He knows what he is talking about and clearly LOVES what he does. Incredible teacher. Went to his office hours and was amazing there, too. TAKE HIS CLASS! You won't regret it!
"Duuuuuuude, you're standing on it!"
Excellent lecturer! You do not need to buy the book, but you do need to be in class and take detailed notes (even the random stuff). ANYTHING said in class is fair game for the exams. His grading is fair and he offers extra credit for struggling students. Loved attending his class!
Best professor I've ever had! He makes the course fair and interesting, and his enthusiasm is contagious. I didn't think it was possible for me to be any more interested in psychology, but he did it.
350 words on one of the best/most brilliant professor/mentor/human I've ever met? Instead of typing 350 words, I'm going to let destiny decide whether or not you choose to take this hugely popular class and allow it to change your life. All the hype on this page is weak compared to the class, you can't put it into words. P.S. Watch his TED talk ;)
I don't get the hype.He is so easily distracted it's frustrating. He cannot focus. We are almost in November and he has only covered anxiety disorders because he spends so much time telling stories that aren't relevant. If you are a excited about abn.psyc try a different teacher because you'' only have time to learn about 2 classes of disorders.
Ilardi has more passion about his study than anyone else I have ever known. His lectures are so engaging I look forward to them days in advance. His tests are all fill in the blank (with a work bank) which can be kind of tricky if you don't study. Overall this man is phenomenal at teaching. His stories are great, they really help information stick.
Ilardi is super interesting and definitely knows how to keep the class interested. Attendance isn't mandatory, but extremely helpful. He is a great teacher and really knows his stuff. The tests are weird and hard, but having him as a teacher is worth it.
Ilardi was easily one of the best professors I've had at KU. He is well educated on the subject he is teaching, knows how to keep his lectures interesting, engaging and relatable, and is always willing to help students and encourages them frequently to utilize his office hours. I would definitely recommend his courses!
Ilardi doesn't make class attendance necessary, he does however make his lectures so interesting and entertaining that nobody ever wants to skip! This pertains to both his PSYC 120 and PSYC 350 courses. All in all I'd honestly say out of the four years i was in college (2 @ KSU/ 2 @ KU) Steve Ilardi is the best college professor I had
If you need a 300+ level PSYC class, don't pass up the opportunity to take Dr. Ilardi's class. Hands down the most intriguing and capturing lectures you will attend on campus and he brings it every day. Tests can be a bit difficult but only if you aren't paying attention in class but he lets you drop your lowest test score anyway.
This class has been the best class I have ever taken. Steve is one of the most intelligent members in the psychology department at KU. He knows his material extremely well and so any arrogance that may be seenheard can be excused. You do have to take notes for everything and you won't need the books at all. Take the class, you won't regret it.
I took Abnormal Psych with Steve Ilardi 6 years ago, and I still carry so much of it with me. He's really amazing, and that class is wonderful. I'm now in grad school, and I can only hope for a professor that engages me the way Dr. Ilardi's lectures did. Take his class. You won't regret it!
He's great!
Arrogant.
Dr. Ilardi is awesome. His perspective on mental illness, especially his position on depression is incredibly refreshing. He has so much experience and insight into this subject that he sometimes comes off as arrogant, but he is really just extremely well-versed in his field. Take this class if you need 300+ credit. Easy & interesting.
Dr. Ilardi is by far my favorite professor at KU. His lectures are incredibly engaging and inspiring. He will make you want to become a Psychology major if you aren't already! Not sure where the reviews saying he's arrogant are coming from. I have to disagree! Overall, an awesome class over really cool material.
Ilardi has been my favorite professor at Ku and the reason I decided to get a minor in Psychology. He is by far the most engaging, intelligent, and enthusiastic professor I've seen take on a large lecture hall and have the entire class excited to learn.
Ilardi is by far my favorite professor at KU. He makes the material very clear and easy to understand. I have never actually enjoyed being in lecture until I took this class. He truly wants everyone to succeed and if you attend lecture and pay attention you will do fine on the tests. Truly a great man and wants everyone to succeed. Fun class.
Ilardi is a great professor! He is really passionate about what he does & he is very knowledgeable. He makes lecture fun and he's not bad on the eyes either. He's very helpful if you need it and his exams are funny. The class is not hard to pass if you pay attention. Overall, I had a great time in his class and I almost wish I could take it again.
Dr. Ilardi is an engaging and interesting professor. He has an opinion about everything and you'll learn a lot just listening to him speak. Tests are easy and straight forward. I took psych 360 from him in the fall and it was basically the same class twice. That's my only complaint really. The classes were way too similar.
Great lecturer. I found his class so enjoyable that I wanted to be in class! Make sure to talk in class to get the extra credit points and put a lot of detail into your final paper.
This has been one of my favorite classes at KU. I usually don't write reviews unless I feel strongly about something. And, I strongly feel that Dr. Ilardi is an amazing professor. Attendance wasn't mandatory for this course, but I would go anyways as the lectures were interesting. Ilardi has a great sense of humor and cares about his students.
I really enjoyed his lectures and found them interesting. Ilardi is much more out-going and less intimidating in lecture- meet with him in office hours and he is a different person. The paper at the end of the semester was tedious but not difficult per se. Attendance is not mandatory, but if people do not show up, he will not post lectures online.
Best professor I have ever had. He is inspiring and moving. He is everything I hope to be in a psychologist someday. Take this class, change your life. Would take any class by him in a heartbeat. Do not need the book at all. I have gotten an 'A' on every test by taking in class notes. Gives extra credit, has study sessions before tests. TAKE IT.
Ilardi is absolutely brilliant, he cares so much about his students and his lectures are fascinating. You don't have any work for the class except taking good notes during class to study. I've probably learned more in this class than all of my others combined, largely because he loves what he teaches and he shares real-life stories. So great
Dr. Ilardi is a great lecturer! His exams were a little bit more difficult than I was expecting, but he was very fair.
I know everyone seems to love him and while I did get an A I worked really hard for it. Also, I double checked a lot of the information provided with actual doctors and credible sources and most of the material he taught was absolute fairy tale. He loved to make fun of doctors and was very full of himself. Seriously, I never need to see him again.
Dr. Ilardi is my favorite professor at KU, and one of the few I'll remember years from now. Yes, his lectures are 'riveting', but you can also tell he really cares about his students, and WANTS them to do well. And even though he's brilliant, he's easy to talk to. He also knows his stuff, and backs up every point with cutting edge research.
By far one of my favorite professors on campus. If you go to class, take decent notes, and go over them before the exam you'll do well. He tells real life stories that can help you understand the materials more, even though sometimes he gets sidetracked easily, but it's helpful and fun! Take the class! And don't buy the textbook, you won't use it.
Pay attention in lecture and take detailed notes. It was very easy to retain information from his engaging lectures so I only had to read through my notes once before each test. Tests are pretty easy, but assigns a long paper at the end to analyze your personality. It was time-consuming but not too bad. Very good speaker; 75 minutes goes by quick.
Dr. Ilardi is absolutely AMAZING. Psyc 350 was my favorite class I've ever taken, and he was the best professor I ever had. You will learn truly valuable information that is sure to better your life and others. He knows exactly what he is talking about and really cares. His lectures are so interesting, you won't ever want to skip class.
Best teacher I've ever had. Makes the class really interesting while also making sure you understand the material.
this guy is incredible! Even if you have no interest in psychology as a major, he will inspire you beyond belief. His class has been one of the most impactful on me yet and his lectures were all online to watch but they were just too good to miss actually physically being there. you would make a mistake to not consider this course.
Steve is by far one of the best professors at KU. All of his lectures are entertaining and engaging. He offers SO much extra credit, so if you don't pass, then you didn't try hard enough. If you didn't score well on tests, then you had optional papers that you could do to help your grade. He is a great guy and genuinely cares about his students!!!!
I absolutely loved Ilardi! I started with a psychology major so I took his psych 120 class and when I decided to change my major to something that has nothing to do with psych, I still took psych classes with him because he has a way of making the 90 minutes fun and interesting. It feels like story time that can be related to the material
He makes learning so fun and there is basically no homework and not textbook. It's all lecture based but he's really entertaining. I plan to take future courses of his as well. I completely recommend everyone experience this.
Dr. Ilardi is well spoken, and well respected. He has a lot of patience, and listens to his students. His lectures are more of a dialogue, and you will likely immediately respect his opinion after meeting him. Easy to relate to, funny, smart, and a compassionate person - which shows through his work. I am really happy that I took his class.
He is my favorite professor I have had at KU! I'm not even a psych major and I will be taking more of his classes because I truly enjoy going to his class. He is so nice and will do anything for his students, he wants everyone to be successful. As long as you understand the notes he gives in class you'll get an easy A.
This professor made me want to become a psych major... took psych 120 and looked forward to his lectures every single morning. He offers amazing advice throughout his course and you will be surprised how much you learn about yourself and others around you.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but you will want to go to this class. He is engaging, personable, and shows that he really cares about the students and has a passion for his field. You will need to take good notes, but the tests aren't incredibly difficult. In both courses, he has assigned a lengthy final paper, but it is fun. Also took PSYC120.
This man knows how to take what could be very boring material and make it seem interesting. He's SO passionate about his lectures, which is so refreshing from the "I don't want to be here" attitudes. He taught a big lecture, so it's hard to get to know students, but he still seemed to genuinely care about how everyone was doing. His class is great!
I took PSYC 120 my 1st semester of my freshman year and PSYC 350 my 2nd semester. I really love Ilardi! He provides plenty of opportunities for EC & will never finish each lesson on time, so expect EC lectures before each test. Don't have to go to class but GO! Take SUPER detailed notes & make flashcards. Tests are hard so study! He is fast paced.
Best professor I've ever had
Dr. Ilardi is the best professor at KU. I have taken psych 120 and psych 350 with him. He is so passionate about his work and makes the information so interesting. He cares about all of his students and wants to hear from them. He learns your names and gets to know students even in a huge lecture hall. 20/10 would recommend.
Ilardi is an amazing professor. He is extremely smart and I feel like he knows everything you ever need to know about psychology. He uses a lot of dad humor and he is always so excited to lecture. He made me change my minor to psychology! I am taking a class with him next semester and I can't wait. His classes fill up quick so snag him while u can!
One of my favorite teachers at KU. Very engaging with the class even though it was bigger, and really funny. He actually cares about you grasping the concepts and leaving the class having learned something important.
He's definitely passionate about his work and seems quite knowledgable. However, I don't get the professor worship this man receives. His lectures are EXTREMELY tangential. He humble-brags like no other. I'm not offended by profanity, but he uses it so often that it comes off as unprofessional. Be a skeptic. Don't fall for the showmanship.
Clearly passionate about what he's teaching, and actually calls for student input throughout the course of the lecture. Yes, he might go off on tangents, but they almost always apply to the information in the lecture. Very approachable too.
His classes fill up so quickly because hes one of the best professors at KU. I learned so much in this class, and in 120. Great lectures, funny and never boring. Cares about students, and basically gives free counseling if you need it. Ilardi knows his stuff!
Love him to death.
Dr. Ilardi has been my favorite professor thus far at KU. He is not only brilliant, but his lectures are engaging and he keeps it lively and interesting. Attendance is not required but all of the material covered in class are on the exam. I had no problem passing this class with flying colors because I actually liked learning from him. 11/10 GREAT
Honestly one of the most inspiring and creative teachers I've ever had as a student. He cares exceptionally about the subject and truly wants to get to know and help each of his students.
Theres TONS of extra credit! Talk in class extra credit point. The exams are NOT bard. Just study. He is the absolute best professor in the psyc dept. Hilarious. Talks to his students as if he was your bestie. He was the reason I switched my minor to psyc. Very interesting and exciting class!! He also did a TedX talk. Hes legit famous.
Amazing teacher! Very engaging lectures, especially interesting because he uses patients he has met with as cool examples in class. He really cares about his students, favorite teacher so far
Amazing teacher! Very engaging lectures, especially interesting because he uses patients he has met with as cool examples in class. He really cares about his students and makes an effort to meet each one
Truly my favorite teacher I have ever had. He is incredibly engaging, intelligent, and up to date on the most recent findings in his field of psychology. Not to mention he is hilarious and keeps his lectures fresh and entertaining every day. Highly recommend!!
Super amazing professor. Very caring and really wants his students to do well. Attendance is not necessary as he posts videos of his lectures online; however, he does give out random extra credit just for showing up. Definitely a class to study hard for by rewatching lecture videos.
By far my favorite professor I've had at KU. He makes lectures interesting and cares about his students. He makes sure he learns everyones name and he gave out a lot of extra credit.
My best professor so far. He was very passionate about everything he talked about and made every lecture interesting. Just study for the tests and do the paper and you'll be fine.
Best prof I've ever had, is always engaging and cares about how well you do. He is always wanting to see you outside of class and gives extra credit for coming to class.
Dr. Ilardi is one of the most charismatic professors i've ever had and is definitely the reason I became a psych major. He's hilarious and genuinely cares about all of his students, he wants everybody to pass and makes it easy if you put in the effort. Best professor i've ever had and wish he taught more classes.
A well-respected teacher! If you pay attention to his lectures and take good notes, then you should pass his class. In this class, we did not use the book. The lectures are tangible to real life making the content easier to remember.
One of only three professors I had at KU that truly felt cared, wanted to be there, and actually gave 100%. Engaging lectures, great jokes, accessible, and just overall fun to talk to even outside of class. I actually felt like a missed out the times I missed this class, which I tried my best to never do.
While Ilardi is very well respected, and gives great lectures, his main assignment is a term paper for every class. These term papers attempt to have students dig deeper into their psyche which can be harmful to those who are struggling. In my experience, he is a smart man, but narcissistic. He wants to be viewed as the Psych God he is.
Great Professor! Classes are super interesting, and he always held my attention. Lectures aren't mandatory to attend, but exams are basically verbatim the lecture, so it's helpful to go, but exams are not cumulative. Essentially skipped 8 classes before an exam and just watched videos on 2x speed and still received a 95 on the exam. Really easy.
I love this profesor and the class! I truly enjoyed going everyday, and he videotapes the lectures and puts them online so they are accessible from anywhere. He is captivating and interesting to listen to. Additionally, he offers a lot of extra credit and the tests are easy as long as you study. I love this prof and his class.
Ilardi gets a lot of good reviews, but I found him condescending. He refers to outdated information, rambles about things that don't pertain to the class, and is self-absorbed. He presents information hypocritically and I didn't learn anything new from his class. But hey - at least it's an easy class.
Dr. Ilardi is probably the best teacher Ive had at any level. First, his lectures are amazing, they actually make you WANT to be there. Somehow he makes a huge lecture hall feel more intimate. Hell even put students on mic and theyll share crazy personal stories in front of hundreds of classmates. Ilardi also cares about students and it shows.
I can not think of even one thing that I dislike about this man. He genuinely wants to listen to everything all of his students have to say, and his lectures are the most engaging I have had at KU. If you have any chance whatsoever to take one of his classes before you graduate, do yourself the favor and take it.
Dr. Ilardi is truly the best professor I've had in college. He is so genuine, hilarious, incredibly smart & fascinating. I almost changed my major after taking personality psyc with him. I never missed a lecture b/c I genuinely wanted to go. Take really good notes and you will get an A with flying colors, never got below a 95 on a test. AMAZING!!!!
Easily my favorite professor I've had in college so far. He's an unbelievably engaging speaker and he manages to tie all of his tangents back into the lecture material. He clearly cares about his students too. Honestly? Make an excuse to take one of his classes - you won't regret it, I promise!
Dr. Ilardi is by far the best professor I've had in college. His lectures are interesting and easy to follow. If you miss class he posts all of his lectures online. He lets you drop your lowest test score, and if need be write a paper to replace another low test score. The tests are straightforward and easy if you know the material.
By far my favorite and most inspirational professor so far in my college experience. he is so accessible and makes you want to reach out. Very smart and well respected. If me or anyone I cared about had a mental health issue and needed help, I would follow his advice word for word
Ilardi is definitely one of the best professors at KU because of his hilariously engaging lectures. I would recommend him to anyone wanting to take this course.
Professor Ilardi is the best instructor I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. He truly cares about the things he teaches about and hilariously expresses the topics to the class. The stories he gives as examples make you want to go to class even though you dont need to. You are doing yourself a displeasure by not having him as a professor.
Dr. Ilardi is the best professor I have had at KU . He is incredibly engaging, funny and you can tell he truly wants his students to succeed. He is easily accessible and I found myself just walking up and asking him questions after class on numerous occasions. He works hard to prepare his lectures and I felt like I missed out if I was absent.
This man is one of the most egotistical and passive aggressive person that I have ever met. He teaches as if what he says is law and is not open to others opinions. He often cuts off his students and GTA's when they are speaking and always has to have the last word. Makes jokes which is why most people like him, but he is not for me.
I learned more in this class than anything else in 4 years at KU. So much great content about mental health and self care, it should be required for everyone regardless of major! Also Dr Ilardi is amazing and I can tell he actually cares about students.
I was not an official student in his classroom. But I am a student of his. I've learned a multitudes thus far and will continuing my studies. It Is (Is) a 'Universe Thing' that you wrote book. W Thru webinars, videos & books, the Good Dr. understanding to my severe depression, since a kid, on a more profound level, in my 50s now. Many thanks Doc
Dr. Ilardi is one of the best professors I have had at KU so far. To get a good grade, you need to work hard but it pays off. I took the class online due to covid, and he has all the lectures posted online through black board. Ilardi is highly knowledgeable on the topics he teaches and answers questions fully and in depth.
Dr. Ilardi is the BEST professor I've had in my 3 years at KU. His lectures are interesting and engaging, he sincerely wants students to succeed and the expectations for the class are clear and easy to meet. I did take time with the class (it was an honors course) but nothing overwhelming or impossible - and It was enjoyable so I didn't mind at all
He is one the worst professors. My tuition is paying for indoctrination. He is extremely smart and successful in his field, this does not matter because he is close minded and egotistical. He goes on and on about the vaccine and how everyone that is vaccinated is better than everyone else. If you are liberal, then you would enjoy his class.
tests are heavily based on what he presents in lecture, he does, however, live stream so that made attending 20x easier. Super entertaining to watch lecture and you can tell that he genuinely cares about his students and their well being!
Super funny lecturer, but sometimes he seemed to really stroke his own ego... super tough essay grader which was surprising....
So swag and welcoming
Best professor at KU. You can tell he cares about his students very deeply which is so rare to find. He makes time for everybody, loves to hear about students experiences, and his lectures are very engaging. I learn 1000 new things every time i go and i genuinely get excited to go to class. He is the professor i will remember for years to come
Very funny, very interactive with his students. Made the huge lectures more interactive and fun. Not too information heavy- the only critique I have is that he sometimes ventures off with personal stories and experiences rather than the content itself, but as long as you study the notes you do take for the test, you'll be just fine.
He was the most engaging professor I had while at KU. His class is one of the only classes I actually retained what I learned and enjoyed going to. I would recommend anyone to take this class unless you are a bad test taker or bad at teaching your self things/studying. It is very fast paced and exams are a majority of the grade
This class showed me the bigger picture of life. Dr. Ilardi teaches not only class content, but helps students learn how to step outside of black and white thinking. You will you learn a lot more about psyc and more about yourself as an individual and gain more confidence because of it. He is an inspiration and the most caring professor ever.
Dr Ilardi is THE best professor. Lectures are interesting and funny. Exams are easy (MC / TF) with study guides and review sessions. He drops lowest/4 exams. 25% of your grade comes from a paper. Weekly ~150word discussion boards. LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES. Attendance is not mandatory (lecture recordings posted on canvas) but GO. Easy A.
Wonderful, amazing, lovely human being. Please take any class with him. #swag
steve is truly one of the best professors at KU! if you have the chance to take any of his classes, you absolutely should! dr ilardi is such a brilliant professor but is also actually good at teaching. just by sitting in class you'll learn most of the material without realising it. he is super caring and very fair about exams and credit.
While attendance isn't required, it's the one class I actually want to show up to. He really keeps the class engaged. I have and would recommend this class to anyone!! The content is so interesting and he cares about all of his students.
Doesn't take attendance but anything in lectures is fair game for exam. That said, his lectures are amazing, super informative and he's funny and great at keeping you engaged. Loves to answer student questions, during and well after class is over. Available outside of class. Gives you lots of opportunities to get a good grade if exams went poorly
Dr. Ilardi is so awesome!! He is genuinely so nice and cares about his students. The lectures are actually entertaining and he plays music before them. I kinda suck at taking written exams so I thought they were hard but if you take good notes from the lectures and actually study you should be fine. There are also extra credit opportunities.
Steve is a wonderful human being. Personally, I feel as if he is the BEST professor at KU. 4 exams (lowest dropped) 20% of your grade, 14 discussion posts - 15% of your grade, and some other activities not worth that much. You must study for exams, as they are not easy. Literally, just go to class, listen, and you will be fine! Good Luck!
Professor Ilardi's class is engaging, though the exams can be challenging. Using unstuck ai and taking good notes really helps. He's passionate and cares about students, making this a worthwhile course.
Professor Ilardi is the perfect professor and I don't say that easily. His lectures are engaging, entertaining, and educational. He is fair minded and clearly passionate about this subject. I learned so much about personality and those around me. I fully believe I am a better person because of this class, and I don't say that lightly.
Dr. Ilardi is easily my favorite professor at KU! His lectures are super engaging and you can tell he is so passionate and intelligent. He also has amazing stories and really cares about students. The exams were not too difficult as long as you study/listen to review sessions, but the exam scores basically define your grade.
Dr Ilardi is my favorite prof I've ever had at ku. he applies the course material through interesting and funny stories, and I literally enjoyed every minute of his lectures. attendance isn't mandatory but its important. no textbooks but he does a great job of posting videos, outlines, study guides, etc. he grades fairly and tests are reasonable
He lectures the whole class but keeps you very locked in. He cares about what he's talking about and posts all lectures online after the course. Very helpful and overall a great guy.
Good and funny professor, exams can be difficult with the word banks but multiple choice and true/false portions are easy. Drops lowest exam score with 3 exams being kept. He's very engaging and incorporates stories into lectures. Weekly discussions, writing assignments, and the interview are easy for 40% of your grade. Overall, fun class.
Steve is great. He's a bit of an old man sometimes, but is very respectable. Paying attention to lectures is not only interesting, but needed for the class- but the content wasn't redundant for me and I learned so much. I feel like this is the most applicable/generalizable class i've taken so far for my BNeuro major. You get to drop one exam grade.
Amazing class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but class is exam heavy and includes lots of what he said in the lectures. Lectures are very entertaining and I never got bored. Best professor I have had at KU yet. Highly recommend.
Honestly, stopped going to class after the first month and just watched lecture recordings on 2x. Content is super interesting, but a lot of lecture feels like a long ramble. Exams were easy and the projects were also simple to complete. Would definitely take classes with Dr. Ilardi again.
Dr. Ilardi is the best teacher I have ever had. He is an amazing storyteller and manages to keep you engaged throughout the class. Although attendance is optional, it is a privilege to hear him speak and learn from him, as well as the fact that all the exams include information from lectures that is not in the notes. He made me motivated to learn!
Really great professor and I really did learn a lot! I just wish he didn't spend as much class time talking about AI because it does not relate to course content. Other than that he's incredibly smart and knows what he's talking about.
