His class is very easy, but he gives lot of writing work in class and at home too,but you need not worry about submitting the homework because he will not ask you,but you need to sbmit them as soon as possible if you want the grade.just do the work he gives and you will surely get an "A".He is very h
he is good, okay. if you want an A or an B then take his class.
He is a very good teacher, very knowledgeable. Gives A LOT of homework. Grades fair, nice and fun. I highly recommend him
If you don't mind writing, take his class. I like this professor. Very easy!!!
There is lot of work to do in his class. Easy, but too much. the way he grades is kina wierd. sometimes u write very bad and u get a 4 (from4) and sometimes u write very good and u get a 2. I think he doesn't read everything, and just grades u. u have to be able to talk to him to get ur grade. if u can argue and don't mind writing a lot, he is good
worst teacher ever! he even dosnt know how to teach if you really want to learn something dont take him .
I took him for English 101 in the Summer. The class was very challenging because the semester is 5 weeks long and in 5 weeks there is lots of work. I do recomend him because he teaches well and is very informative. He does tend to talk a lot, but he is easy.
He's the best English Professor! His class was much easier than any of my Honors Eng. classes in High School. There's 4 papers, a midterm, and a final. Really study the fallacy terms because 2 out of the 3 parts in the final deals with fallacies.
Boring is the first word that comes to mind. If the hard tests and essays do not drive you out of that class then his sleep inducing speeches will. Do Not Take. Go Take it At Moorpark or Valley
he grades essays harshly. Ive never gotten lower then a B in an english class and i struggled to get a B with him. It is possible to get an A, but he has to like you a lot and you need to work your ass off.
hes a great guy and all and he teaches a lot but i just thought that classs was too much work and i ended up with a C and he wouldnt even change it when it was a 79.3. Nice guy, means well, but too strict for me
Tries but fails. Take Sheldon.
too many nightmares to this day. I dont mind working hard but this was wayyyy too much even for me and iam an Honors student
Way too much work even in the summer
I took him, and had to walk up and tap him on the shoulder to remove him from the indepth conversation he was having with himself after I called his name six times(which scared him). He doesn't explain anything, and forces you to do repetitive and stupid assignemnts that teach you nothing. I had to drop him...don't take him.
Mr.Overall will at first appear a little stange, inregards of his teaching methods. What to expect in his class, you may ponder?? But he is a good teacher, his assignments will prepare you for the next English class. He explains what writing is about, if you are the type of students who wants to understand English. Then he is the one,to teach you!
He is one of those teachers that say "don't worry about ur grade... just try to learn and enjoy and blah blah blah..." then he'll give you a 'C. I am an honor student 3.8 Gpa, never got a grade below B in my whole life and he gave me a 'C'. Tons of work to do in his class. The only positiv thing i leared in his class was to start writing right away
The amount of work is unbelievable and the majority of it is busy work that is extremely unsatisfying. He assigns things before teaching them to you. Nice guy, very intelligent but unless you have nothing else to do in the day....don't take this class!
Lots of work, but a near gauranteed "A". Great teacher.

Please take another teacher. DO NOT put yourself through hell, he grades our of his A**. He is Boring and... Just Boring and Boring and Boring and also Boring. Did i mention he is BORING.
i took the class in summer and i loved it. We didnt have to do a research paper which was cool. there is a lot of work but they are kind of easy.final was kind of easy too
BORING as hell. One of his assignment is "Write about writing!!!!" AVOID HIM. He makes u misreable he is so boring. BORING. he is also unfair with grades. He really does grade out of his A**. OVERALL, U SUCK, u might as well change your name to BELOWALL.
He is probably the most ridiculous teacher I have ever had. I learned absolutely nothing and the class was EXTREMELY boring. He is so inside his own box and can't stand when people ask questions that might be off topic. This guy definitely should not be a teacher.
I thought he could be a little mean and boring at times but i learned alot. Dont take this class if u hate researching. thats all he makes us do! stupid assignments but he lets you have notes during tests.
One word: BORING! Overall is the WORST teacher I had EVER had! Not only does his lectures stray completely OFF-TOPIC but he assumes that you don't know the definition to EVERY WORD! There was a group of disruptive people in the corner and Overall just was plain RUDE! I had never heard such sarcasm coming from a teacher.
He likes to talk, but he's real cool.
Probally the worst teacher i have ever encountered. He took a subject that i was very interested in and ruined it. He tried to teach philosophy within the course, but if you challenged him, he would ridicule you. I dropped the class with two weeks left because i though he would fail me although i believe i had at least a B.
Class was interesting. Not hard. fun
Laidback but more than capable.
Overall was a very good professor. At first, I thought his class was gonna be hard because I had an english 21 professor that was sooooooooo arghhh and I kind of had a hard time in that class, although I got a B. But I must admit, English 28 was waaayyyy easier than my 21 because of him. There were 4 papers in a term, and I got 3 As and a B. He'
Dude i hate English but i loved this class. Mr. Overall is such a great teacher and really helps you understand everything! as long as you try on your essays you can get a pretty good grade and if u don't he lets you redo it. HOW COOL IS THAT! you kinda have to study for his tests.... All in all hes a really good English teacher. =]
Don't listen to the other. Over is a nice guy, but could'nt understand him at all. He is sometime and I fell nice is should teach jr high school.
He can pretty pretty rude and sarcastic, kind makes u not wanna participate in class at all. Once made a girl cry for playing a game while he was teaching. Not that hard of a class as long as you do try. Extremely boring kinda felt like he wasted a lot of class time talking, sometimes not even related to what he was teaching.
Overall was an easy class, if you enjoy english. Boring most of the time. Essays were too easy and grades fairly. Passed his class with an A. Not much of a challenge.
He was a brilliant English Prof. Keeps order in the class--yeah! Tells stories that are spot on the topic. If people care to LISTEN instead of txting He truly wants the class to understand the essays and participate in his lectures. Seems to be earning an honest living.
He was a brilliant English Prof. His lectures were spot on. They were always related to the material. He encouraged a dialogue too. My writing improved tremendously under his tutelage. Even though his liberal leanings did leak in to his lectures, I was okay with it.
His lectures are pretty boring, but he is a good teacher. Grades fairly, but has you do grammar topics which are a bit tedious. I passed his classe with a B,and I missed two assignments and only did half of a third, but did all of my other work. You don't do in-class essays, so it is a bit easier. I recommend taking him if you want to write.
Decent teacher at best, he is VERY critical of everything. I question whether he knew he was teaching people at the skill level they were at. I wrote paper for his class that he would say are great papers but the fact that the thesis wasnt clear justified a low B. The one reason I wouldnt him is his work load was worse than 2 or my 5 unit classes.
Horrible teacher, I've received a grade of (B) in all of my essays and test expect one of the essay which i got a(c) and one of the test which was a(D) "Overall",i got a (C)in the class. I personally loved the teacher but he's not fair, there are people that did worth than me and got the same grade or even better. He's cranky all the time"adorable
DO NOT TAKE HIM. His teaching style SUCKS! Very monotone and BORING during lecture and expects you to know everything by handing out work sheets instead of actually teaching. STAY AWAY. His grading is also unfair. You've been warned.
Prof. Overall is the toughest grader I have ever experienced. I passed all my previous English classes with As, but I barely got a C with him. I took him during the summer. Granted he does go over the material a lot. His grading scale literally takes a field of experts to understand what he is looking for in a paper. He is hard to impress, Avoid!
Prof. Overall paved a path for me to a fulfilling future I could not have imagined had I not taken his class. I needed to write an essay for a job interview, but couldn't form a coherent thought structure let alone a coherent sentence. I now compose executive summaries and interpret for world class businessmen and diplomats. He changed my life.
Not a bad teacher at all, although very monotone, he is very nice. He clearly shows what he's expecting in your essays and shows what you need to know to get a good grade.
This class helped me a lot. English is demanding in general. Professor Overall keeps attendance, is organized, gives plenty of homework, some assignments can be due any time of the week since he uses moodle a lot. I learned some important things that I will use for the rest of my life.
For one his lectures are incredibly boring due to his voice and pace. And there is much more work than a class of this low level should have. He is offensive to religious people and constantly states his atheism. You have to buy a dictionary with the textbook.. (I'm not kidding) You have 4 projects!!! Not worth it for a early English class
Just do your work right away because it's easy to fall behind. However, he does accept all late work.
Long lectures, but not a very difficult class. Gives lots of essays and constantly forces you to work with others.
Honestly, I hated this guy at first cause his assignments were confusing the hell out of me and he wouldn't clarify it well, so I just typed as much as I could about whaever I thought the assignment was about, and suprisingly I got a really good grade on them.
Professor Overall, Gives more assignments that what he actually teach in class. Not worth paying to take his class. I regret choosing him as a teacher. I am a beginner in English 28, and this teacher only hands out a full sheet of instructions without teaching.
He is awful. He has anger issue and gets upset if you ask him question or email him. He is so lazy at grading papers keeps everything to the last day and you never know what he wants from you in the writing project. He is rude and his grading is very unfair.
Instructor Overall is amazing. Honestly, you're not going to come across professors like him. He gives you a clear grading criterion, it is all in the matter of how much effort you're gonna put to follow it. I really enjoyed my time in his classroom, and I'm certain that you are too. Take him!! He's has good knowledge and insight into literature!
Took the class during winter session, so I'm sure that's why it felt like tons of work. I learned a lot and I am very satisfied with the whole course. Overall gives good instructions, so your grade depends on your effort. It was my pleasure to have token the class and I highly recommend Overall if you want to have an interesting class.
I took his English 28 class and am now in his English 101 class and.. it's exactly the same. Same books, same essays, same reading. His lectures make it hard to stay awake sometimes, but the work is easy. He uses a contract system which mainly means do the work and get full points which makes for an easy grade.
Lecture is a little slow but he teaches a lot of valuable stuff. He always makes sure everyone understands before he moves on.
Prof. Overall is not the best but I was able to pass his class. He is Very clear on the steps with writing the essays which makes it much more easier and. It was the only thing I liked from his class. Worst lectures though.. its really hard to stay awake and hes very bland which doesnt help.
I am currently sitting in his class durring another one of his hours long lectures and it is hard for me to keep my eyes open. He drones on and on and is the most boring teacher Iv had in a while
His class is kinda boring, but his class is very easy if you do your work. He gives out writing projects step by step so writing essays isn't that hard. We used a textbook and a mini handbook to complete the weekly homework of writing practice sentences which was very easy. He is also kind and understanding with late work. No tests or quizzes.
He is a very kind professor. We did a total of three essays, with about 12 step processes that build into it. Easy if you do it on time. Sentence practices due at the end of every week. You need the two books to complete it. He gives you good feedback on essays. You'll get a good grade if you do all the work. He will give you credit for doing it.
HORRIBLE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, my worst teacher at pierce, gave hours worth of hw and all due the next day. Lectures were boring but if you need to nap its ideal. Grading is ridiculous and your whole grade is based on getting As on the three essays, so if you get a B on one he will give you a C in the class. Never again will I take his class. NEVER!
I had him during the Summer bridge and did not have a good time in his class. He is extremely boring and a little rude, especially when you ask him questions about your grade. Assignments are pretty easy.
Had him for summer bridge English 101. He was pretty boring but I find that most english classes are boring anyway. We had 3 essays and had lots of time to do them with several steps and clear instructions. Homework was minimal. I missed a few days and attendance did not affect me. Just do your work and follow essay instructions and you'll get an A
He was good at going over topics and the actual assignments were not hard just long. However his behavior is unacceptable and rude, every time you have a question or need to turn in something he gives so much sass and rudeness. Just today I went to give him my essay and he like always said shoo*d me away as if Im attacking him or something.
Prof. Overall was a decent professor. The class consisted of 3 papers which determined your grade. A lot of busy work, but is easy to pass.
I had him for summer bridge, it was paper after paper and soft talking and rare feedback, ASMR made me fall asleep slower than his voice. We ended up using the textbook a couple of times and he made us buy a small book that we didnt even open so, future summer bridge student beware!!
Its true that he can have his short temper moments, but its tolerable. Due to his soft spoken voice he can be boring. The class is easy to pass if you put in the work because he does care that you do well. Out of the 3 essays that youll do, you are granted one essay redo for a better grade.
I took his summer class and i'll say his lectures were a little bit boring, but it was mostly because nobody was engaging. He was trying to be collaborative, so contribute to the discussion if you want the class to be more interesting because it changes his mood. If you don't know what he wants out of an essay just ask for help and he will tell you
Took him for 101 as a part of Summer Bridge, your entire grade is based off 3 essays that he calls "Writing Projects" or WP. Each WP has a several steps which is mostly writing. Each WP Step grade counts for the overall grade for the Writing Projects. There are no quizzes or tests either. He can get really boring, just do the work to get an A.
He was overall a great professor, a little bit lacking on the enthusiasm but 'overall' (pun intended) a great choice!
Do not take with him any class! he is super lazy to grade paper after student-submitted! he is gonna grade after like two weeks and you don't have any time to redo your paper! too much homework and he is a tough grader!
The class was organized but he has high expectations of you no matter if you attended each class it is still possible of failing this class. Will not be using his teaching skills. Grades your whole grade on just final not the effort that you put into class. I do not recommend. His class was the only low grade Ive received. Dont bother.
People are being really harsh with him, hes a good professor. An EXTREMELY light workload, not required to attend/watch the lectures. He is available for office hours. If you ask him questions before he starts the zoom recording, hell answer them very well. Just do your work (which isnt hard) and youll be fine. Easier than my high school AP Lit
I had him over the fall semester for English 102. He was very hard on grading and didn't help as much. I have a learning disability and it was hard for me to keep up.
In the beginning he made us do a lot of work about what we would like to improve on, etc. This was a waste of time because he later on just assigned random assignments and didn't communicate. When it came to papers/essays he was a tough grader and didn't teach at all or gave feedback. He doesn't show our grades or use canvas at all. Awful!
He made online school the worst! He was not consistent with posting material and expects work to be done 2 days before it is due. Canvas is not used at all in this course, causing much confusion as to when assignments are due or what is assigned. Our grades never posted and he grades harshly. Trust me don't take him. He assigns long, random work!!!
I enrolled with a female professor but somehow ended up with this guy instead. He's honestly a tough grader and has a really weird grading system that makes it difficult to get an A in this class. Assigns a lot of homework that doesn't help with the essay writing process. He doesn't use Canvas either which makes it hard to keep up with due dates.
Mr. Overall changed my life. I took his course at Pierce because I was failing at UCI. We analyzed Apuleius and an essay on narcotic reading, which was a disturbing but well-needed wakeup call. He taught me the discipline and power of written expression . Now I'm a CFO of a hi-tech co in Mtn View and was accepted into Stanford GSB exec course.
The work wasn't really hard, there is just a whole lot of it. He's a bit rude as well, or maybe just tough. The weekly workload got overwhelming and annoying pretty quickly. The assignments don't get graded for a while either, he just picks a day and grades a huge chunk. I wouldn't recommend him but he's hardly the worst.
I had him for an 8 week course, so the class was a bit easier than his class normally would be, but he was a very kind teacher. He was incredibly helpful and clear with how he wanted everything to be done, and guided us students through every step.
Very boring. This professor is incredibly disorganized, and it's so frustrating. I haven't learned anything in his class because he takes months to grade assignments, leaving us clueless about our progress. His explanations are lacking, making his feedback confusing when we finally get it. The projects are boring, repetitive, and time-consuming.
This professor is very, very slow at explaining things. The first week was spent explaining to us how email works because he believed we were too young to understand it. You won't get a single grade until after week 6 (if you're lucky), and you will have to write a full essay within two days. You need over a 95% on papers to get overa A! AVOID!
clicked the class randomly and I regret it. Do NOT take him bruh. Only reason I'm giving him a 2 is cause I learned something. Be ready to write full grown essays in like 2 days. Homework is also so boring and repetitive. A lot of stress. The final is write 2 essays in 2 hours in class. Character wise, its like ehh. you will be stressing
There's so much homework and its so boring and time consuming to do. can be very specific on the homework and ask for stuff that's not on the rubric. A new essay every month and gives you a week to do it. never grades the essays on time. The final is about a book and have to write two essays within two hours.
My experience in this class was disappointing. The instructor struggled to communicate ideas clearly and often came across as condescending. The course felt unorganized, expectations were unclear, and classroom management was weak, which made learning difficult.
