He makes you work but is a great teacher and is HOT.
What she said. ^
This professor CHANGED MY LIFE!
What she just said, and... ohhh, hot, hot, hot!!!
Demanding and can be cranky. Seems smart but only because of his ego. Question his logic, do not just accept what he says as fact.
I liked Prof. K. My class though was rude and pretty dumb. My high school class was more mature! I wish I had been with others, we could have done more. He taught me a lot and put up with a lot. He is cute.
He is a great teacher! Easy to talk to, very understanding, gives interesting assignments.and he is not bad to look at, infact, he's gorgeous.
Awesome teacher! Wish more were like him! Pretty hot, too!
Steve was intelligent and opinionated and I'd be lying if I said I didn't learn from him. He was overbearing and intimidating, with an ego that would barely fit in the room. His way or no way. Ask him for help, he just gives you more questions to wrestle.
Great teacher, but I left his office in tears a few times. His ego is huge (compare him to James Bond and he will GLOW.)He encouraged my ambitions and polished my work and my professionalism. One of CSCC's best. I guess he is a tough love kinda guy.
The ego thing did get in the way for a while, but once you learn to agree with him you're fine.
I liked him, if you want to take a Creative Writing course, he's a real neat-o guy to have as your instructor.
He is the most arrogant professor I've ever had, which was extremely hard to deal with. He showed up late every day to class, and didn't bother to show up at all for our last day of class, when we all had prepared presentations.
Best instructor I've ever had. He made an enormous difference in my college experience. Do yourself a favor and take a class from this guy!
Steve came in on SATURDAY for two hours and helped me. He is confident, honest, smart, kind and expects you to work. I got A's in my other classes because of him.
Never saw the ego thing but you work. No easy A like other teachers. He's cool about most stuff, just do the work and you learn.
Great teacher. This guy should be cloned!
Best instructor ever! Do the work and participate and you will get so much out of his class. And girls? He is HOT!
I took a few classes from Steve years ago and probably benefitted more from those than any English courses, since. I'm happy to see he's still teaching. Neat guy.
Knew his stuff, but had the worst attitude of a prof i've ever seen. Very unprofessional. Seemed to not really care about the future of his students. Heavy work load, not much direction. Mean spirited at times. Scary.
Warm and friendly. Easily the best English professor I have had. Helped me a LOT. Never had a poor attitude but didn't let rude behavior of some students disrupt the class. Great guy.
Fabulous. Puts any other prof I've had to shame.
The exact opposite of "warm and friendly". Not a terrible teacher, just not all that likeable and not all that good either.
Great class. Great instructor.
Hands down the best professor I've ever had! He is tough, but if you do what he asks of you its easy sailing. He really knows how to get you to think critically, whereas most professors at CSCC dont have a clue.
This was the worst class I have ever taken. I was in a disruptive class was ultimately punished for their behavior. He was extremely unprofessional when dealing with student conflict. He acts like an elitist and is often mean.
Among CSCC's best instructors. I will definitely sign up for more classes with him.
You never know how Steve is going to be from one class to the next. I've heard great things about him from other people, but with my class he was absolutey horrible. Unproffesional, and even kicked us out of class once. You never know if he's on or off. Suggestion: Enter at your own risk!

I think he is one of the best teachers at CSCC! He is very smart and has a good head on his shoulders. He is very strait-forward and to the point. He's not mean or harsh, he treats everyone equally. He is extremely helpful and wants to help out. He genuinly seems to care.
Great! Fabulous! Hands down, the best professor I've had, to date! Doesn't put up with rabble rousers, but who wants them, anyway? Gets people to contribute and THINK! Cares about his students and their futures. Fantastic!
This guy knows his stuff! Challenges and entertains. Don't pay attention to bad reviews. They're from slackers. Do the work. You will learn more from Steve than any other teacher at CSCC. Hint: Use the office hours! He will go out of his way to help. And try to get him for your capsone. He is great!
Completely understand both positive and negative comments here. Sexy but ****. Intelligent but arrogant. Extremely good at convincing you that his criticism makes you a better student. You probably will in fact learn something, but the attitude may not be worth it. Takes to certain students well, others not so well. Good luck.

i didn't really like steve as a person all that much, but he is a decent teacher and i did walk away from his class having gained something.
Had him for two classes, saw he gets a lot of psychos and slackers. He signed one girl in and she talked trash about him the whole term, a nut. I liked him. Very knowledgable and helpful but he means what he says. Students running a game on him won't get far.
Pretty funny guy. Some jokes went over peoples heads. Helpful. Repeated himself a lot but that wasn't his fault cause people kept asking him the same questoins.
I had Steve for most of my English courses. I enjoyed his teachings so much that I intentionally enrolled in the classes he taught. He is an amazing teacher- very firm, very fair!
Awesome teacher. He knows his stuff and expects as much from his students. Very caring and interested in making sure each student is confident in their abilities and reaches their maximum potential. An amazing listener and strong leader. and extremely easy on the eyes..... not that it matters....
He expects a lot but you learn a lot too. Beware slackers.
He's helpful, but proud; he freaked out in the middle of class once because someone made a relatively inoffensive, sarcastic comment towards him. I would take a class from him again, anyway; you'll grow a lot as a writer.
I took his class at night, so the class periods were a little long. However, Steve was extremely entertaining and is full of fun facts and stories. He makes you think and encourages participation. I am going to try and take his classes again in the future. Just be willing to listen and work and you should do well.
Great teacher.
He uses the entire class period up. boring tells pointless stories and isnt helpful at all. very high up the ladder in english so hes a pretty tough grader. plus theirs only 100 points in the class so all the responses u do which is about 30 only count for like 5 points. must be in class and pay attention to do well
Steve was my first proffesor in college, and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. If I can pass his class, I know I'm going to be fine. He was difficult, but he told us from the very beginning that he was going to ask alot of us. Alot of people say he's arrogant, I think it's more like confident....but, in my opinion he was a GREAT teacher.
Amazing! I want to take all my future classes with him. He's tough, but I learned a lot. Funny and entertaining. Yummy, too.
Class was harder than I though but he was good.
seems rather arrogent and closed minded. talks about himself too much.
Annoying combination of cute, extremely smart and arrogant. Look out if he's drinking caffeine...it brings out the jerk in him. If you realize he really cares and his attitude is just a teaching technique, you're better off. He's disorganized and loses assignments, but you will learn alot. Just don't take anything personally.
just drop him. trust me. hes no good at teaching. hes arrogant and rude, especially if he doesnt like you, which will happen to most. he will lost your papers after you turn them in and dont be surprised when he tells you its not his fault.
I'm surprised at the negatives. I thought this guy was AWESOME. This was my third try at the class and he was the only prof to make sense. I whined about my other profs too. Maybe I just grew up but I think he did good.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! Far better than anyone else teaching English. I learned so much. I hope I can get into his other classes.
Dr. Steve is very neat and crystal clean. There is one way in his class: his way. This method of teaching hurts ignorant students. Many of them bash him because they write so poorly. Professor K. draws conflict to make students think. Do all the work; visit him and write well; otherwise, you are wasting your ink. He's pretty to watch. OOh.
Steve is a very interesting guy. I must admit, I looked forward to every class for the laugh that I knew it would provide. As with every teacher, he will treat you as you treat him. Give him a ****y paper and he will give you a ****y grade. You are sure to earn every bit of your grade in this class, but....isn't that the point?
Steve is a very confident and sometimes cocky guy. I disliked him at times, but i did learn things (as promised) from his class, and left liking him. Strict but fair.
His work is hard but he is a great teacher
Work load is low but he is not helpfull will not give direct answers when asked a question... No use of text book...
Love him!! I loved having him for a teacher so much I took two of his classes! He is always funny and is very philisophical. I liked hearing his views on life. He is a very pleasant teacher and is will to work with you. The only down side is he will teach to the bell, even if it is a late night class. Overall he was an awesome teacher!
I learned more in his class than I have in any other English class at Columbus State. I was greatful for him and wish there were more like him.
good teacher, hard grader
Fantastic instructor! Will try to get into another of his classes, next quarter. Smart, funny, articulate and oooooooohhh... so hot!
Very good about caring for students, being helpful, and being friendly WHEN HE IS IN THE MOOD. Not friendly or caring by nature. Says he will teach you to think critically, but if you critique anything he says, watch out. Not hot by nature either. Just a good dresser. It's all about his image. You're on your own.
Very helpfull but very challenging. Grades papers as a hobby!
This teacher should not be teaching, he is very onesided. Doesn't get along with his students. I am not sure why he is still teaching at this college stay away from him, he thinking only he is right.
Ultimately, a good teacher. I really enjoyed his class when I took it the first time. I'm retaking it with Steve to improve my grade, and I'm excited about it. He is one of the few teachers at CSCC that challenge me. You get the grade that you earn & he's not afraid to push you to do better. Isn't always the nicest, but is also very understanding.
Worst english teacher I've ever had in my life. Very mean and rude to students. Hates when you ask too many questions. He wrote the book and only thinks what he wrote is the right way to do things. Very hard grader. Always got high A's in english and got a B. STAY AWAY!
Tough love, but you learn! Wow! Signing up for more Prof K next quarter.
philosophical, helps you improve, gets you thinking outside the box, see truth vs. fact
took this class last quarter, do not take with him. he thinks he knows everything and he makes he quizzes hard (most are true and false). had to do group presentations in front of class and if you are a shy person (like i am) he did not care. he told me i had to speak up and then had the nerve to ask me why i laughed all the time...i told him th
He isn't a horrible guy but you have a lot of work in this class. Overall I enjoyed the classes even when we would argue. He is very over opinionated and doesn't particularly appreciate opposition. The papers assigned were really dull. I would honestly suggest taking another teacher. I really didn't learn enough to make the pain worth it.
This class was a great experience because the professor initiated very interesting, intelligent discussion, but I felt that he was unmotivated as a professor. He's great as a literary critic, but may not be so great for those without a knack for the subject. He told us that B average students get further in life. I take my grade as a complement.
He was a good professor. I think he really wanted to help but some students were clowns. He always answered my questions and gave me good advice. I tried to take the class twice and he was definitely better than the first professor. I am quiet and he left me alone.
I took this class at night not too long ago. Although he draws his class out til the last possilbe moment, everything he teaches could be done in 20 minutes. He pointlessly banters for 2 hours. He's very oppinionated, and completely rude to students. It's best to keep your mouth shut in his class if you want to avoid his underminding remarks.
Steve is THE MAN... you have to have a tough skin to get by in class, i know because he and i would get into to frequently. but at the end of the day he isnt there to hhumiliate you or make you feel bad, he argues with you to get his point across. I really leaarned a lot, got an A and highly recommened that you take his class.
A total waste of a quarter.
Taking a few classes with him, he definitely tells it like it is. If your a jerk he doesn't treat you any better because you paid money. One dumb girl asked him if she should put her name on papers. He helped me, worked around my Army commitments and was one of the best.
Hardest and most worthwhile class I've taken so far. I learned so much in one quarter.
Incredible Professor. The man is literally, so far, the most effective teacher I have had in my scholastic career. You will work hard in his class, but you will learn so much.
I had him two quarters in a row. He makes the instructions and everything necessary for a paper very clear. He's a tough grader, but he pushes and drives you to work hard in class, which benefits you because you become a better student due to it. If I had any more English classes to take, I'd take them with him. :)
I took this class, thinking the professor would be good. Boy, was I wrong. None of his lectures had anything to do with the material, expectations for assignments were vague at best, just horrible. A word of advice: do what the syllabus says even if he hasn't told you about it!
he spent the whole class takeing about his past GF..i don't recomend to no body..i did everything he asked but i ended up wz a grade D.
Worst teacher i ever had....
He basically just made us watch movies during class each day. We would then have to write an essay before each day of class as well as a reading and a literary works summary. All this was only worth 10% of the final grade. The rest of the grade came from a final, 5 essays, and 2 quizzes, each of which are heavily weighted and he's a hard grader.
All I have to say Is I was very nervous to come back to school. I had been out of school for several years. The first instructor I took was Steve Kasmerick. 1st year students definitely take him!! He is very fair. Just discipline yourself for his class. He challenges you but fir the right reasons.
All we did in class was watch youtube videos and talk about movies. His lectures made no sense, and he was rude to the students. Would not recommend.
HaHa, no love from the comments here. Steve is the man, accept no substitutes. Had him for 111, 250. He is the most direct teacher there. Just do what he tells you. He will help if you ask. Don't be rude, he hates rude! But he didn't even yell at the snoring girl. He bought us pizza.
He knows his stuff!
Great teacher. Most complaints I've heard have been from people who want to get away with little to no work. You WILL have to put effort into this class. I almost wish I could take him for all future English classes.
He puts up with a lot...
Steve was focused more on the class seeing how intelligent he was, and hardly focused on the students. He was also very cavalier, take his class if you want to hear a man "show" you how smart he is. He is sort of funny and charming, so i guess he's got that going for him...
He was really cool, a good teacher, and bought us pizza so often other people also brought food. I learned a lot. I don't know why people complain about him. He does what he says and tells you up front.
Learned a lot from his class. But Professor Steve is a very hard Grader.
Funny the professor just brought up evaluation so I looked here and saw how all over the place his ratings are. So far Steve is the BEST professor I've had. I started college years ago and dropped out because I wasn't learning anything. I've learned more in five weeks than in five previous quarters! And he doesn't let students act like children.
Very knowledgeable and good at keeping discussions going. Looks boyish, cute actually, but pulls together things you don't think do, like old OLD movies. Funny. Picky grader. Not always patient but pushes in a good way. Helped me a lot but one guy in class didn't think so.
Tells you EXACTLY what he doesn't want to see in a paper. He is your audience. Listen to his lecture and take notes. Write a paper with things he doesn't want to see after 3 lectures of "what not to do" because you are an idiot and you will not pass. It's not rocket science!!! (and for goodness sake, don't put ! Anywhere in your papers.
Had him for ENGL 111, took him again for ENGL 251. This was a year or so ago and I've taken a lot of classes since. If you apply yourself in his class, ever other paper you later write for any other class will be easy. Lazy students who want everything handed to them need not apply. If you have a hard time in his class, college isn't for you.
Finally a grown up English class. If you're serious about writing, Mr. Karczmarek's class is definitely worth getting out of bed on a Saturday and spending three hours. Not done yet but it doesn't matter. I think I will get the grade I deserve. Give him what he wants!!!!!!
LOVED THIS GUY!! I couldn't stand English before this class. Loved the random discussions that got tied into the lectures. Thanks for the pizza, Mr. K!
Good professor. Solid lecturer. Liked his sense of humor. He made me rethink a lot of things about myself and my strengths and weaknesses.
I went into this class disinterested in English. Lectures are entertaining, tying in movies and music, and he is charismatic. He's very specific about what he wants, so just pay attention and do the work the way he wants. You can't just do the papers at the last minute and expect a good grade-you have to put in a lot of effort. Use his office hours.
Don't be a fool, take him! He seems like Ivy League material- teaching wise. He'll go deep into the history of whatever is discussed in class, from movies to cars, and as many have said, he knows his stuff! If you're a slacker, stay away as he doesn't take BS and is strict, although he will listen. Attendance is mandatory!
Steve is an astounding professor. He may come off as brusque but he's actually a suave, affable guy. He's very handsome and always makes a point with his stories. Be responsible and give him what he deserves. His classes aren't easy but they are engaging and you will learn so much. Also, don't use quotes to start papers, he prefers weird facts!
Good class, nice guy.
Excellent teacher. If you actually pay attention to what he says you will learn how to write. It's not a class you can show up to every other week as attendance is mandatory. Pay attention, ask questions, do the work as he requests and you will do fine.
Although Steve can be helpful, he is rather condescending with his views on CSCC students. We mostly just watched YouTube videos. He grades very harshly and inconsistently. I'm surprised he has so many good reviews.
Steve knows how to keep it real, and will tell it to you like it is. Don't be offended by some of the things that he says, he probably said it for a good reason.
I enjoyed his science fiction literature web class. The stories were good and the lectures were very interesting. He was pleasant to work with. He gave lots of resources. It was a good experience.
Steve is an excellent teacher. He is what I expect in a college class room, expecting YOU to work for your grade and refuses to sugar coat comments and give you a good grade because you say you "put hours into working on a paper." If that's what you believe earns you good grades, go back to grade school! He is a deeply insightful and smart man.
I took two classes with Steve before transferring to OSU. He is easily the best prof I had at CSCC and much better than most at OSU. He is honest and you won't like some of the things he tells you, but you better listen because he's right. People want to shoot the messenger. If you follow his advice you will learn, especially about yourself.
Steve seemed to have knowledge about writing, but only showed it through youtube videos. My biggest problem with him was he was rude and abrasive. Very condescending.
I would not take this class online with this professor. He does not utilize the blackboard so you don't know if he received your emailed assignments. No syllabus, no calendar. Discussion boards were removed even before the due date. Terrible communication.
9 year salaried supervisor at CSCC with an IQ of 127 and a degree.DO NOT take this course if you are an independent learner, think for yourself, rigorously creative, aspire to Socratic methods of instruction, use Aristotelian dialectic/logic.Steve is absolutest, authoritarian, vapid, egotistical, pedantic,a pseudo intellectual and an academic charlatan.
This was the hardest class I took. If you don't like English don't take this class.
Steve is a brilliant professor who is very passionate about his work, he really gets you excited about what you're doing and interested into the subjects. He's a tough grader but he's fair. If you BS a paper he'll call you out on it. He consistently stayed after class to help students and multiple times I stayed for an extra 2 1/2 hrs. Very helpful
My favorite professor that term. I learned a lot. I agree with the other poster that Steve was always available for help in office hours. Maybe we were in the same class because I was always going for help too. I was scared of English but Steve pushed me in a good way while making it fun and make sense.
Dr. Kaczmarek changed my life. I know that sounds dramatic, but he believed in my academic potential before I did. I took his class in 2011 and he helped me uncover important critical thinking skills. I am now on the verge of entering a doctoral program at OSU. I am forever grateful for his consideration and guidance. Take his class!!!
Bad communication, grading timeline awful, should not teach an online course if he can not respond to an email within a week.
Professor Kaczmarek gives you all the information you need. He responds to e-mails quickly. As long as you turn in ALL work, you really shouldn't have a problem with this class. The discussion boards have very few points but they add up in the end.
Amazing class. You learn so much more than just writing. Do the online work, go to office hours. He responds quickly to emails. He is very strict on deadlines but they are specified.
Just to let you know that always the writing center advisers were surprised how difficult were his assignments. Be careful if you want a high grade don't take this class with this instructor. No one got A grade in my class.
This professor was decent as an online professor. He comments on every assignment that is due, but will not email you with problems- he will expect you to reach out to him on your own.
Great teacher
Very helpful professor, takes an interest in student's success, very responsive, and easy grader.
I found his class-long lectures to thankfully be both very interesting and very funny at times. He grades his assignments fairly, and if you do what he says, an A is a simple thing to earn.
He was tough but nice. He had high expectations and helped you meet them.
Professor Kaczmarek was a great teacher. He was a tough grader, but gave good advice on how to fix your issues. He was very understanding and reasonable. I learned a whole lot and would take this course again. Overall a great professor.
Good Prof, grades tough but fair, ask questions, helps if you ask, go to office hours, funny, English sucks.
I don't agree with some of his grading methods.
I took his online course. Steve is a very tough grader. I don't agree with most of his grading methods either. His assignments are not all that interesting. The one positive that I will say about him is that he gives very good feedback which would help me in assignments in the future. Mainly discussion boards and essays.
Extremely tough grader. Do not take online course if you can avoid it. He grades everything out of two points other than the big essays, so if you don't get a 100% you automatically get a 50% therefore an F. Leaves very vague comments and reviews for papers and discussion boards, I was never really sure how to improve. Very boring assignments.
Steve is amazing! His lectures are engaging and he tries to give as much help as possible to all aspiring writers.
He really helped me and was patient. I failed this class twice before but passed with him even though he was harder grading.
Worst professor ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kaczmarek is overall a great professor and seems like an amazing man. His lectures were great and he goes into great detail about everything. He's probably the smartest man I've ever come across, I loved hearing what he had to say. He's so handsome, so nice to watch, too. When I needed help, he was very kind and patient. But, he's a tough grader.
Steve is an amazing professor. He gives very engaging lectures that will teach you a lot (across the board). His expectations are high, but he also gives a lot of detail to what he is looking for in the essays. Your grade will reflect how well you follow the directions. He is also very helpful if you reach out to him (via e-mail/office hours).
He was a great professor with awesome feedback and quick responses to emails. HE IS SERIOUS WHEN HE SAYS YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO ON ESSAYS FOR VARIOUS REASONS STATED IN DIRECTIONS.
I panicked at first because my paper grades were so low. But he lets you rewrite them and extra credit. I ended up with an A! He IS tough but you LEARN so much. Follow the lessons and everything is explained. Ask if you don't. Don't skip anything. Read instructions! He WILL give 0 if you don't follow them!
Smartest teacher I ever took a class with. His comments are spot on. I got a story from his class published. Next year I start an MFA. I thought creative writing at community college would be a joke. He's pretty cute, too.
When I first enrolled in this class, I lacked most of necessary skills for college writing. And guess what, I ended up with an A! He is definitely a very inspirational instructor. If you take his class seriously and follow his instructions on each paper carefully, you'll see he's not a hard grader at all! He is very knowledgable about writing.
Steve is a great professor. He gives clear guidelines for writing projects. Stay within those and you'll be fine. He gives students MULTIPLE opportunities to get a good grade; optional revisions, and extra credit. He is smart, funny and never boring. Two thumbs way up.
I learned a lot in this class, the professor gives good feedback! If you put in effort you'll get an A!
I would recommend Stephen Kaczmarek as a professor and even though he does grade a bit harder, he gives a substantial amount of feedback, allows you to revise papers for a better grade, and if you apply his advice, you will succeed. His online class consisted of a few discussion boards, light reading, and submitting three papers.
I got 103/100 points (with extra credit). Not the best writer, but I followed his lessons and instructions. It's all there. I'm surprised at the negative reviews. Honestly, you'd have to work to fail. Like not read or do anything. He even lets you rewrite papers. He answered my emails quick and was very helpful. I'd take him again and recommend.
ENGL 1100 Web - You get a rewrite on all your essays. Plan in advance how you might use those and work regularly on the essays. Use the writing center if you can. MAKE THE DEADLINES. I came in to see him and he gave me a great critique that helped me a lot. He's definitely willing to help and is a friendly, clear communicator.
Super strict grader for an online composition class. He does provide the opportunity to revise your papers, and gives end of the year extra credit. Be ready to write like a novelist.
Just dont.
Excellent class. Not hard at all. I can only speak for myself but I read and followed the lessons, which were mostly narrated presentations. He gave examples with comments like he was grading them. I went to see him a few times and he was extremely helpful.
Tough especially in eight weeks. Did not think I would make it. But I did. I made the mistake of not reading everything and fell behind. He looks for things from the Powerpoints when he grades. But I passed with the extra credit and rewrites.
I do not recommend taking his web class. There is only a few Pics that he calls lessons so unless you are a master writer you will not do well. Half your grade is in revisions so that means you have to revise EVERYTHING. I submitted project 3 before I got project 1 grade back so I had no idea what was wrong and his feedback was copy/paste.
Excellent class. The narrated PowerPoint slides and student examples take you through each lesson fully. There are also book readings, Web resources, and the Writing Center. By using all these, I didn't have to revise anything or do the extra credit. He's a great instructor if you're motivated to do the work. Highly recommend!
I took comp at another school first. This class was easier not because he wasnt a hard grader, he was, but because he explained a lot. In that other class which I dropped the teacher just said to write. I started failing becuase I didn't know what they wanted. I can't say how nice this teacher is because I didn't meet him but he emailed me fast.
I took his class online. I wrote all the papers & did all of the revisions that were allowed. On each revision I fixed what he noted. However, on the 1st 2 revisions I got 1 point back & on the 3rd I got 4 points back. I am still unsure of exactly what his grading was based on. The class is pretty simple & if you put a little effort in you'll pass.
Liked the class, HATED peer review. Never got good feedback. Obvious people weren't studying, bad grammar, no insight. One peer reviewed on the wrong paper. Writing center was hit or miss. Same tutor told me to keep something one day take it out the next. Went to see the instructor and he helped a lot. You get what you put in to the class!
Read everything carefully. I missed a lot by skipping or skimming and lost many points. When I did the rewrites I looked over everything again and saw what I missed. My classmate (I'm in middle school with them) didn't realize the slides are narrated and missed lectures so that too. Make sure you email him if you have questions;you will learn lots.
I learned what I needed and got As on papers in other classes., including at OSU.
I do not always agree with his uncompromising grading style, but he gives detailed feedback on your papers. Study these comments alongside the online powerpoints when doing the revisions, and you will finish with a decent grade. If you take during the summer, prepare to write about 585 words/week.
Bottom line: Don't study? Won't pass. Can't just throw a paper together the night before like in high school because he grades from the lectures. I thought it would be an easy A but almost failed. The rewrites saved me. I didn't watch the lectures until then. Dumb. I always get As in high school. This is college.
I finished with 99 points, and it wasn't that hard. Read instructions and do what he says in the lessons.
I took this class after reading the reviews and I regretted it after receiving my first essay grade and very generic feedback. I am not sure if he is just a better teacher in person than online and that's why the reviews vary so much from what I experienced? This class lacked clarity and instructor involvement.
This is my first English class in college. Dr. Kaczmarek is extremely unorganized and grades way too harshly for the lack of clear directions. His comments are extremely useless with plenty of grammatical errors that make them hard to follow. Overall, I do not recommend this professor at all.
I should have taken the advice Ive read on here. It was a terrible experience. I dont recommend him to anyone. He is a ridiculously tough grader. Do yourself a favor and dont take his class. Just dont.
He is a horrible teacher and impossible to please. On many occasions he told me that if he were anyone else I would have gotten better grades but he chose to grade me lower. He grades papers late, and is never clear on what he wants. He told me my informational papers were too informational. I never knew what he wanted from me. Worst professor ever
Overall, this is a typical college professor. You definitely have to put in the work if you want an A. make sure you watch lecture videos and email him if you have questions. he provides pretty good feedback on papers, but he's a really tough grader. you don't have to do the textbook readings, but you should if you have time.
Very condescending to students who have already covered material taught in his class. Taught his own interpretations of material as the only possible truth, even when several students pointed out that many interpretations were dependent upon the reader's perspective, making it impossible for anyone to be absolutely certain of meaning.
Grades a little too tough but provides chances to revise essays and do extra credit
Wow. That is all I can say is wow. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get above a D on anything. Not the rewrites, not the original papers, nothing. He grades exceptionally hard and even if you take his average feedback into account, he still won't give you a good grade if it isn't exactly what he wants. Try to write on a topic he knows about.
I liked his class. Very stressful though. There were lots of times where I cried... but I feel like my writing significantly improved. Stressful but worth it imo.
Seems like a very nice man. Gives good feedback. Takes 2 weeks to grade essays which is fine considering he teaches 8 classes and has to read a lot of essays. I suck at writing but passed. There were three writing projects and one final essay. If theres no essay due, then you do an easy discussion board. Bought the book but never read it.
Professor Kaczmarek was fine for the most part except that his requirements are too stringent for a creative writing class. He was going to give me a 0 for submitting something FOUR words over the word limit (because of my header info) until I basically begged him to reconsider. He did, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Otherwise, fine though.
I could never get anything above a C on the writing projects even after submitting revisions. He is a very tough grader. Its not impossible to pass with a good grade, but it seems difficult at times. I thought I was the only one getting terrible grades, but it turned out others had the same concern. He gives extra credit and revisions.
Probably the worst professor Ive had the displeasure of taking. His feedback on essays can be summed up to prewritten responses and all around incompetence. He expects literary masterpieces but cannot for the life of himself present constructive criticism. Do yourself a favor and never take his classes.
Kaczmarek is terrible! After every essay he gives people bad grades followed by a pre-written response that is completely unhelpful. So there's no feedback to use on future essays. Do not take a course with him, it will only hurt you.
This is a huge difficulty bump compared to English One. He gives a copy-pasted or very generic feedback and the rubric is almost very empty with no comments given to you. The instructions for papers is all over the place as well as they can be found in lectures. The only redeeming things are the revisions and extra credit.
Dr. Kaczmarek is one of the best professors I've ever had at Columbus State! He is tough but everything is in his lessons. Just follow them. His web classes are self study but he will conference with you online if you ask. He met with me on a Sunday!
In his syllabus, he alludes to high schoolers taking his class for "college credit plus" as not belonging. He grades papers that are B-D quality all the same. Do not take if your GPA matters. I wish I had read the "rate professor" comments before signing up for Kaczmarek. Not a high quality instructor or experience at CSCC.
Honestly im awful at english literally just turn things in on time and do the extra credit he provides at the end of the course! This was an easy B for me and Steve was pretty nice in my experience. The only thing was that he was kind of a tough grader but if you just take his feedback and resubmit the paper you will do fine.
CCP here and took Dr. Kaczmareks 1100 + 2367. He never said anything about CCP students anywhere on the syllabus though not going to lie, his classes are tough. Thats college; you have to do the work. Ask him questions; he replies fast.
I took this class online as a CCP student and he did nothing to help me when I asked how to improve my grade and work around his impossible grading scale. I was passing with a straight C till I got a B with the last assignment where we review what we did wrong. He was a nice guy for the most part no help when it came down to assignments and emails.
It is literally the easiest class if you pay attention. Prof. did not really interact, like...at all.
Took webs 1100, 2367 and 1190. All selfstudy reading, videos, powerpoints. No class meet ups. All on YOU. When I had questions he emailed right away. Like minutes later. You can rewrite a lot at the end for new grades. I like no class because I work but if you need to go to class etc. do face to face on campus. Think about what your signing up for.
Finished with 99 points. Everything was straightforward but a lot to read and learn. Skip anything, you'll lose points. He's specific about what he wants but not unreasonable. I work in a grants office, and trust me deadlines and word counts are real. He gives ranges for word counts and makes it clear everywhere. Don't know how you can miss it.
No lie it's a writing boot camp. The class is self-study with videos and examples.Lots.Textbook too. At first it seems you can't pass but stick with it. He conferences if you ask. My grade completely changed in the last two weeks and he wanted my essay to use as an example. You have to stay on top of it. It was hard but worth it.
I see why some love this class and some don't. I only had one other professor this tough. But he gives you everything to succeed. If you study you learn. All of my peer reviews were useless because obviously they didn't study. They hated the class. I studied. I got an A. It's not rocket science and I'm going into aero engineering.
Be ready to cry daily. There is SO much work and he grades papers extremely hard, even though he only replies with a few vague and unhelpful pieces of feedback. However, if you set up online meetings with him, the feedback you get is much better. Just try to reach out for help and it will help you improve your papers tremendously on revisions.
Finished with 97 points! Class wasn't that hard. It's obvious he's mostly looking for what's in his lessons.
You will not learn a thing from him; he is simply here to grade papers based off of nothing. He expected us to write extremely informative essays while making the essay max 1500 words, including works cited, which would end up being 5+ works. He expects way too much for such little room to explain. Extremely frustrating with close no feedback.
Professor Kaczmarek is a very tough grader, it also isn't helpful that each paper is only worth 15 total points. It is important that you read all the lessons assigned because he grades harshly on that criteria. Some of the feedback I received was confusing at times. There are chances to revise all papers after submitting the final draft.
Steve was a nice guy but gave lots of busy work. There were 4 papers that he would grade harshly and never give any feedback on. He gave me the same grade for 3 of them and it made me feel like he didn't even read them. I do not recommend unless you are super confident in your writing abilities.
Very tough grader, and unhelpful feedback. Only grades papers out of 15 points and smaller assignments out of 2 or 3. He seems like a nice guy, but he makes it too easy to fail the class. The extra credit and revisions are the only reason why I passed. Overall, would not recommend taking his class.
Run! This professor ran an intro composition class like it was a professional authors master course. Impossible to pinpoint the perfection he was looking for. Most stressful class I have ever had and 0 leeway on any assignments despite anything going on outside of class. He will make you feel dumb if you forget any minute detail from the lessons.
His instructions for class are vague. You really do have to teach yourself as you go. I went to tutoring twice a week to proof read my essays, but somehow it "did not meet the criteria her was looking for". Meeting with him over Zoom to improve my grade was pointless because I needed to "review the syllabus again" or try harder.
if he suspects you arent reading the stuff he assigns he will lower your grade for the essays. he had so many expectations for each paper but gave us 1250 words max (if you are ONE word over the limit its an automatic 0, including works cited and header). prewritten feedback was unhelpful, the rubrik he gives after each essay was super helpful
I am still having PTSD from this class... Felt like being punished if you asked any questions. Stressed me to the max the whole semester
Worst professor and worst class I've ever dealt with! Feedback and instructions are very vague and I think he expects way too much out of his students. He makes it easy to fail. He also disregarded me when I went to him concerned about my grade and instead of addressing it, copied and pasted a course outline to an email. I do NOT recommend!
I took ENGL 2467. Your grade comes down to how well you follow his instructions and lessons, as well as how well you can manage your time. He answers your questions quickly if you ask, and offers extra credit as well as revisions later on. He gave solid and reasonable feedback. I became a better writer and student throughout this course.
Steve pretty helpful when it came to feedback and a nice prof, but the pros end there. He's a tough grader and will say the info is in the lectures, however the lectures were unorganized and vague. Don't feel sad when your grade is low for the majority of the class, the extra credit and essay revisions will help a ton. There are 4 essays and 8 DB's
This professor was AWFUL. He has a "max word limit" and if you go even 1 word over he will give you an automatic 0. i was doing good in this course until that and i ended up having to retake it with a different professor. feedback is awful. course is awful. just beware.
He is a very tough grader
I did not think I was going to survive this course. The lessons are vague--even with the textbook--and the grade of essays seems to rely more on format than actual content. Feedback was in the form of questions, and there was one extra credit assignment to fall back on. I'm not sure how I got the grade that I did, bc this was such a stressful term.
He is a very tough grader and his advice is too vague. He redirects you to the rubric or paper guidelines when you ask for a better explanation. You can redo your papers for full credit, but even then, you will only gain back up to 7 pts.
This professor is hard to follow if you are taking it online. It does not help when needed and if you get rude emails back. we should know the answer to our questions but we ask the question to get help from what we are struggling on.
Not helpful at all
0/10 so rude, don't recommend at all, he has some type of superior complex.
Very Tough grader
I did not enjoy this class at all. He gives you a low grade on the papers until revision time the last month of the semester and then gives you a higher grade even if you didn't change anything. He was very stressful and degrading. Do not take a class with him!!
This class is tough, but worth it if you put in the effort. The professor has high standards, but provides helpful feedback if you reach out. unstuck ai was a game-changer for my study prep - highly recommend using it alongside the textbook and attending office hours.
I took this professor over a year ago but f
do not recommend
bad bad bad
AVOID taking a class with this teacher. TERRIBLE. I couldn't give a 0 or negative rating so i gave him a 1 instead which is still a pretty high rating for him according to me!
AVOID taking a class with this teacher. TERRIBLE. I couldn't give him a 0 or ngative becuase 1 is the least so had to give him that which is still high for him according to me!
I normally get all A's, but for this professor, I barely scraped by. Please run; don't walk! I had his online class, and it was very difficult to find all the material needed for assignments because everything was buried within links and links. His "advice" on essays is terrible, as he just refers you to the sylubus or gives vague ways to improve.
Teacher is a very tough grader. Taking in my final term. Is NOT WILLING to extend deadlines for any reason. (medical emergency). If you do not submit a draft on time, you are unable to submit the final paper until the end of the term. I believe he also types in another language the translates because feedback is unclear or choppy.
This professor is very condescending if you're an engaged student that asks questions. He threatens plagiarism constantly. He grades extremely harshly on things like structure and syntax rather than focusing on content. I'm not convinced he reads any of the discussion boards. I feel significantly less confident in my skills after this class.
He is a very harsh grader if you do not organize your thoughts well or go against anything that is said within the "lessons". These lessons are very difficult to find and the information they contain is often not helpful towards the problems you are having. Some of the comments on my essays made it seem like he barely even read the assignment.
no office hours. never heard of this in my entire 14 year academic career. confused by this.
It's as everyone else says. He doesn't seem to look at the content written, and grades off of your organization and how well you followed the "lessons". Don't be fooled by this professors 5 star grades, as they are all a decade ago. Be prepared to receive vague and condescending feedback if you email him with a question.
I'm sure he's a good person outside of teaching, but this class was a struggle. I passed with a B but the class average was a 53% and his guidelines and rules were not clear. Do not take because no matter how smart you are, you will struggle! He is the only reason I don't have a 4.0 ( ended comp II with an A).
Has high standards, but makes expectations clear at the beginning of the semester. Offers a lot of feedback on papers, and the chance for revision at the end of the semester was invaluable. Can see how this would be a difficult class, but if you are self-motivated and have good time management you will be fine.
He is the worst professor I have ever had in my life.
Hands down the worst professor I have ever had.
He is absolutely a tough grader, but you will be better off for it. Very much motivated me to do good work. Fantastic feedback, and so many opportunities to get points back. Just make sure to do discussion boards + watch lectures and you'll do great! Definitely a good prof if you really want to improve your writing.
you might as well take ts online, bro yaps the whole time and lets you do actual work in the last 20 minutes. bro will grade every little detail and deduct points from that. HE DOES NOT ACCEPT LATE WORK AND DOES NOT TAKE EXCUSES FOR ABSENCE.
I DO NOT recommend Professor Kaczmarek. He washes his hands of all responsibility. If you misunderstand an assignment, he blames you. If there is a technical problem and your assignment doesn't get uploaded, it's your fault for not taking a screenshot to prove you uploaded it. He doesn't answer questions; he refers you back to the syllabus.
I don't like how his instructions are unclear, and when you ask him something he just tells you to listen to all his lectures and the instructions again. Even if you turn in everything, it is still difficult to get a good grade because he doesn't help at all. It is just lazy in my opinion. He gives good feedback after you get graded though.
Papers that would have otherwise gotten an A in other classes were a C. His feedback was never clear. He just said: review the lessons and lecutres again, which didn't work the first time. The entire class was out of 100 points, so there was not any room to get points back at the end of the semester. Would not take any of his classes again.
I don't believe taking this class as a high school student would be a good choice for you. His grading method isn't clear and his rubric is not specified.
