Great teacher! Makes it interesting and gives a good review for test.
Lectures all day- most boring teacher/class ever. Questionable grading methods- picks 20 topics and you write all essays on each one.
he sucks! Talk about BORING!!! He lectures all freakin class and basically puts you to sleep. p.s. His jokes are NOT funny! :(
THIS GUY SHOUDN'T BE ALLOWED TO TEACH! HE TALKS ABOUT THINGS THAT HE THINKS ARE IMPORTANT AND NOT BY THE BOOK AT ALL. EVERYTHING IS IN HIS OWN OPINION SO IF YOU DON'T COME TO CLASS AND WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS YOU WILL NOT PASS THE TEST! SUCKS!!
This guy rocks he doesnt teach you that text book high school crap, he teaches real history and he is incredibly smart and well researched and the class was easy also, Kirkpatrick rocks and is a great speaker and very well informed.
He sucks. You are required to read like three ten page stories and if you have let's say MW classes you write on M and then test on W and they are very hard. It is like he thinks he teaches at yale or something...totally impossible to take his class and have a life...or even another class becuase of work load
great teacher, good test reviews, dont need book, just come to class and you make a
This guy is a bad ass. He was in the navy and knows his****. He tells a story about history A+ guy.
Kirkpatrick is a easy and badass teacher ever in history class. I took him for western civ 2. i got A in his class. Very easy class can be boring sometimess. test is really easy its all written not multiple choice. you do 20 short answers. All from lecture notes and no outside work. easy A.
Tests are all Essay
this class was easy... yeah the tests are all essays but take good notes and study and you will do fine! plus hes funny!
all tests are essays!!
Kirkpatrick...interesting prof. some what funny. hes a scott and proud of it..lol...he lectures the entire time, but i learn best that way so i didnt mind. His tests are all essays....he grades ratherstickly...INCLUED EVERYTHING POSSIBLE on the essays, the more u put, usually the better.... but over all hes apretty good prof
good.
like everyone else has said, all his tests are essay format so oyu either know the information or you dont. and he is very picky on what you wright! he takes his subject very seriously so if your not a history major or if your looking for an easy class that requires little to know work then deffinately dont take his class.
All the tests are essay format, but he tells you EXACTLY what he wants you to write. If you attend class and see him if you have questions, you'll do great. You DON'T need the book! Don't purchase it
an interesting helpful and truly entertaining prof.
The tests are kind of hard, but his essays are what really get you the grade- they're 50% of the test- make sure to include all you can in them! He's a really interesting guy and I like learning from him, and I HATE History. I would take him again
his lectures are fairly interesting and he is enthusiastic about the subject. but not very helpful outside of class, his tests are essay (you either know it or you dont) i would not suggest his class unless you are some type of history major.
This guy rocks. He is really passionate about what he teaches. He sticks to the syllabus and gives reviews for test. Take him if you want to get fired up about history and get a good grade!
He's extremely passionate about what he's saying, which helps because it keeps you awake. Gives an outline on the board to follow and a test review. MEMORIZE ESSAY PROMPTS!! That's the majority of the test, so if you know then well... you'll do great! TAKE HIM!
Extremely funny and fun to be around. Essays are the majority of the test, so go to class, pay attention, and write what he tells you to write. He's eager to help outside of class. He'll make you laugh and love history. He's got to be the greatest prof I've ever had.
Kirkpatrick is a really awesome teacher. He knows more about history than any prof I ever had and he is all around a really smart guy. He is very passionate and says what he thinks so the class is never boring. His tests are mostly essay, but he will teach you everything you need to know. He is a cool old dude to talk to after class too!!
AWESOME!!!! Actually looked forward to going to his class each day. As long as you attend class you should do awesome. Actually makes History interesting as you learn.
Very passionate about teaching this class and is always willin to help you outside of class. the class overall is pretty difficult, must pay attention, take notes, and read but he does a great job preparing you for tests! AWESOME PROF!!! highly suggest you take him, makes class very interesting!
Truly an interesting guy to be around, he knows exactly what he is talking about and he makes it VERY VERY clear that he is passionate about his work. He makes it an exciting class to be in, although his tests can be rather specific on some topics they are relatively not that bad
Ok, he is an awesome teacher. Sometimes his lectures are hard to follow, but if you write down the outline that he puts on the board and just listen to what he says, you will do fine. He is a very nice guy and says some very funny things in lectures, tests are not that hard he reviews you and everything he says is on the test will be there.Got an A
great teacher keeps lessons interesting some times checks role not always 99% of things on the test are in his lectures not just notes on the board but lecture to reviews usually over the test class period before test date 50/50 half multiple choice half essay choice of 2 essay topics tests are easy to me got high As on almost all my tests
Worst teacher I've ever had. The tests are 60 and you have to write at least a 2 page essay.
HIGHLY RECOMENDABLE.Outlines the most significant events in American history.Kept lectures interesting. If you are good at taking notes this class is an easy A. Gives test reviews for exams.Compared to other history teachers-that use extravgant online notes and require reading-,his class is clearly defined and requires minimal textbook use.
Great teacher! He made everything so easy to learn and he absolutely loves history and everything in it and is very knowledgable about it all! Especially his time and ours!
He was good at lecturing but he graded the tests way too hard. If your essays didn't have EXACTLY what He wanted them to have, then you barely got any points at all. His tests are 50% Essay, 50% Multiple choice. No homework, No outside essays, and no quizzes. His was the only class I was worried about the entire semeser.
He tells your EXACTLY what he wants for each test. He has been the most helpful prof outside of class that I've ever had. He likes to go off onto rants, alot. He is very opinionated, but also very interesting. Great prof!
Mr. Kirkpatrick is the best History professor. He makes it fun and easy to learn by telling events in the order that they happened and where you can understand it. He also gives you a review of exactly what will be on the exam! Going to his class is fun, and this is coming from a girl that did not like History at all!
I actually really enjoyed this class, even though I hardly listened to him.. To pass his class all you have to do is read the book and write down the outlines he puts on the board. Make sure you listen to what he wants on the essays!
Uncle Steve is a wonderful teacher! He is very knowledgeable and it reflects the way he teaches. He will meet with you just about anytime and go over anything you have a problem with. No reason why anyone should NOT make an A. You MUST go to class and take notes because the notes are guidance for the exams
So he is a really nice guy and I like him a lot as a person but if you arent very good at history to begin with then this is going to be difficult for you. I asked a lot of questions and he always ended up trailing off so i always had more questions. Also it is hard to take notes and listen to him at the same time. His notes are all over.
Nice person & willing to help.He isn't going to GIVE you anything but will tell you EXACTLY what he expects.Gives study guide w/key terms & possible essay topics(gives 3 to study but only 2 will be choices on test). Will LITERALLY write notes & key points he needs to see in essay--no reason not to ace that part!Take notes & study!
He is awesome! And very helpful and super nice! As long as you go to class, write good notes (whats on the board and what he says) and study well for tests you'll do great! The only grades he has are test but its not bad at all! Trust me! His class is worth it! If I can do it then anyone can! He isn't boring unlike the other ones!
ONLY grades are exams so if you don't do good on them you're not in good luck. :( essay part of exams are hard to make passing grade on.
He writes lecture outlines on the board and these also serve as the essay outlines. He helps people after class and tells you what he wants in the essays. I barely used the book, I just searched for the key terms he gave out. By talking to him you learn the material and don't really need to read. Just pay attention and you will do good.
He loves to talk, and you better like writing. The class is easy and passable with an A. He is a very honorable veteran that tells the real story. Great man. Take class.
Horrible teacher. He goes off topic so much, and he is very unorganized. He talks about certain events, jumps back in time, then jumps back ahead of time and it gets very confusing. He is a horrible professor and is very boring.
Great Professor, tells you exactly what is on the test and what to write the essay about. Makes class very interesting.
I've taken him 2 years in a row. Love him! His is really good at telling history as a story. His test are half essay but he outlines it in class and is super easy on grading! It's a strait lecture class, hardly any class interaction. But it's an easy A class. Take him!
Must show up to class & take notes. Tells history like a story and keeps it interesting. Fair grader and will work with you if you need extra help. Five tests make up your grade. One will be based on a small book you read (easy facts-read it!).The other 4 will consist of 50 Qs and 1 essay(easy if you memorized the outline HE WRITES on the board).
You have to show up and take notes. if you don't do that then you won't do good on the tests which are the only grades. but he's really chill and hilarious. highly recommend "Uncle Steve" as a prof
Uncle Steve is great! Just show up to class, listen and take notes. His test are 1/2 essay 1/2 multiple choice. He will outline the essays in class. Super nice guy who really loves american history. Also he rocks a pony tail!
You have to write notes every class and everyday. You have to read the book to pass. This is not an easy A. Good luck....Mr. Kirkpatrick is a nice guy, I just don't like his class.
Gives 4 test with the outlines he writes on the board(which you can't read at all.) 1 essay and 50 questions. Then one biography test over a book you must read. His lecture is all over the place you really don't know what to write down.
He is and awesome prof. He is very easy!!! I was his top student and didn't study until the day before class. All you have to do is go to his review days and record the lecture. Just wright everything he says for the lecture cause he tells you exactly whats going to be on the test. He also has great office hours and will go over essays.
Entertaining at times. No extra credit. Just the tests. He does meet every evening before a test to review one on one or group, depending on who shows and how long you wait around. Has essay section at end of every quiz. I always felt like I had no idea what he was looking for even after writing 2 pages. Go to review! Missed two, it showed!
i liked his style of teaching
Curves tests. Easy A for Hist. majors. Easy B for the average "Historically challenged" student. No extra book to read. Goes over exactly what will be on every test. Multi choice test questions w at least 1 of the choices a joke usually, giving you a 33% chance if your completely clueless. Repeats the important stuff. Must show up and listen.
If you go to class and listen and take notes it's an easy A. The only grades are tests but he gives you a study guide and goes over it completely. He also has an essay portion on his test but he practically writes it for you the day before the test if you listen. There's no extra credit opportunity but if you go to his office hour he'll help you.
All the lecture is is him going on and on about random topics that kind of have to do with the material. There are only three tests the whole semester and no way to get extra credit. If you take him, don't take him early in the morning because you will fall asleep.
he is a fun professor and is very clear about what he wants. but he has only 3 tests in the semester so if for some reason you do bad on some of the tests you are screwed. ALSO every test you have to write an essay during the test. so no way you can pass this class by just paying attention in class. if you procrastinate then pick a different prof.
Dr. Kirkpatrick is a nice guy but hard to follow. He drifts off topic during his lectures and his lectures is what his tests are composed of. His tests are half multiple choice and half essay. He gives outlines of what he wants in the essays but he is a tough grader when it comes to the essays. Only 4 tests and a final.
He grades essay's hard.
You'll make a C with no effort whatsoever, a B with average effort, and an A with some extra "oomph". Does take attendance fairly regularly.
Kirkpatrick is pretty good, he is very passionate about history and it is apparent. As long as you pay attention and take decent notes, you should be fine for the test. The test is half multiple choice, half essay. He gives outlines of each essay multiple times, so its easy to know what he wants. Only 3 tests and the final. I would recommend him.
He is fun and energetic and passionate about history! But his tests can be brutal if you aren't prepared. His tests are 5050 multiple choice and essay. I did great on the MC part but then on the essay I didn't do well. He gives a guide and all but if you don't cover everything he wants he is brutal. But even so you can ask for help.
Very off-beat. He likes to go off on other subjects and gives his opinion of current and past events.
READ THE BOOK. GO TO LECTURES AND TAKE NOTES. Great passion by this man, I didn't study enough though or even touch the book and got a C. If you put in effort unlike me you will be fine.
I didn't buy one book and I made an A on every test. YOU HAVE TO TAKE NOTES! NEVER miss class and write everything he says and whats on the board. The only negative is that on every test theirs an essay and he gives you 3 options and you don't know which one you'll get so you've got to study them all. His test are impossible if you don't study.
Extremely passionate. Pay attention during lectures. Write down everything on the board AND everything he says. I didn't even touch my textbook once. All his tests are MC with an essay at the end. I got an A on every test; he does very concise reviews before each test letting you know EXACTLY what he wants, so write it ALL down word-for-word!!
Go to class everyday and write down everything that comes out of his mouth. He tells history as a story and makes things easy to understand. Tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests. If you don't pass its your own fault
LOVED THIS CLASS and I have 100% never been interested in History. He's so cool and gives you exactly what you need to pass. Provides an outline on material for the exam the DAY he starts lectures. Tests are 50 mult choice and one essay. Just write what he lectured about that topic and you'll be fine! If you can't stay awake don't take him lol
Absolutely loved his class! He is so passionate about history i took him 1301 and 1302 and had some friends join my 1302 class and they loved him as well! Exams are easy if you study and he reviews the test material with you the class before exam day! Definitely recommend. His exams features an essay that if u do outline you'll be golden!
His lectures are all over the place. Reviews are the LIFE of your good grade. ESPECIALLY when he goes over what he wants on the essays. He doesn't really remember students, just the grades they make. He is more likely to help you if you are a B or A student. Be prepared for tangents in his lectures, but some stories have a really great message.
He only gives 4 test. There is a replacement test but that did not help me. I am normally good with history but the test is split up half multiple choice half essay. He is extremely picky on the essay and if you do not give him the topics that he discussed in class you will not receive credit. I had to Q drop cause I didn't want it to harm my grade
He was one of the best professors I've had, he really knows what he's talking about! The fact that he can tell us personal stories was the best part, loved listening to him! There are only 4 exams and he gives you a review which has everything you need to know on the test. As long as you attend class and take notes it's an easy A!
This was by far my favorite class to attend. Steve is very passionate, and speaks his mind. There are no trigger warnings or safe spaces in Uncle Steve's lecture. Tells it as it is. Take notes, study what he tells you for the essay, and you'll be golden. Great man, wish I took him for HIST 1301.
Such a good prof! He teaches history like a story so it's really easy to follow. He gives really good reviews before each test which are great study tools for the test. He doesn't post anything on ecampus so you do definitely have to go to class and take good notes. I'm taking him again next semester for 1302. I definitely recommend this prof.
Good professor and an easy A. He gives reviews of his exams the class before and the exam is exactly like the review, even in the same order. Can be boring at times but has funny stories about his life that makes the class worth it.
All Kirkpatrick does is lectures. That's it. He has no daily work, and no quizes. This was a difficult class for me because most of his definitions Aren't even in the book. Only tests and that can hurt you. I wish someone would have told me about him to save my time and Gpa. Don't get me wrong, he's really cool but not an easy class at all.
Take notes! Take lots of notes. As soon as Uncle Steve starts speaking you gotta write it down. You will pass this class EASILY if you just take notes. The entire test comes from his lectures and the review he gives. He's pretty funny and even though he is lecture heavy, he makes it interesting.
You need to hear the lectures to know what you need to know for the test. He gives a review sheet but it isn't very helpful unless you went to class every day. Offers extra credit as well. All around good Professor just not a class for people that have ADHD... like me
Uncle steve is hilarious But his entire class is just you listening to him speak. If you miss a class you will not pass. Write down EVERYTHING that comes out of his mouth. He gives review sheets before each section but just looking up definitions will not help you on the test, You need to know cause and effect on everything. 4 tests w/ 4 essays.
This guy is a trip! Hilarious with great stories. Only 4 tests (half m/c - half essay) so show up to class for the lecture or you will fall behind. Gives reviews for tests and questions come directly from lecture. Not extremely difficult, just study you're notes. TAKE UNCLE STEVE!
Kirkpatrick's class is just him talking the ENTIRE time. He takes no breaks and just keeps talking and talking and talking. Wouldn't recommend him, because he's tough when it comes to grading. His tests are hard, even though he gives out reviews. Writing an essay after each test, is exhausting.
Wonderful guy, definitely loves teaching. However, lectures would go completely off topic he would talk about random and irrelevant things. Tests were extremely hard. He did an in class review however it was so fast you couldn't write it all down. Essays were also difficult and he wanted them to be long. Never once used the textbook.
He's very enthusiastic about history and his whole class is a big lecture with 4 tests. All the answers are exactly what he describes in his lecture so pay attention.
Really great guy who loves history but I really disliked his class. We're only on graded off of 4 exams and each had an essay crucial for your grade. His lectures were boring because he never interacted with the class. Also his notes are not set up very well.
I would definitely suggest Prof Kirkpatrick if you're willing to put in work and attend class. I attended every class, took diligent notes, read the book, and didn't struggle at all with grades. He is an opinionated guy but he makes things abundantly clear and I enjoyed the class a lot. I definitely learned a great deal from this class!
Heavy Lecture note out line on the board, not will to help just lecture you
by far the best Professor I have ever had. You can miss class and still get an A just read the book. Taking notes in class does not help much its better to just listen. He gets most of his test questions from the book. He might not be interactive but his lectures will not put you to sleep. The man tells it how it is
I would recommend him to everyone he is so funny. If you read from the text book you will get an A that is were he gets his test question. His office hours are awesome he will explain any period of history you have a question about. Also his language is very colorful
Laid back prof, history can't get more realistic, he has very good lectures, never boring and always funny.
This class was super easy, and Mr. Kirkpatrick is hilarious, he teaches what really happened not what they put in the textbook. There are 4 tests and thats it, if you write down what he puts up on the board and show up to class you will do well.
He is very passionate about history, but he tends to go on tangents that make it hard to follow. Luckily, he makes it very clear what you do and don't need to know for each test & gives reviews. Tests come from his lecture and a large portion of it is an essay but he tells you exactly what info he wants you to write. Textbook is not needed for an A
DO NOT TAKE! I took him b/c of the good reviews, but it was the biggest mistake i made. You only get graded on 3 tests & your final. thats it. Theres an essay on every test & he grades super strictly. I had to drop this class to save my gpa. He rambles on about stories that go away from the notes on the board. & the "notes" are just words.
Kirkpatrick is the worst. His lectures are strange and hardly ever make any sense. The only grades in the gradebook are 3 tests (all three of which you have to write an essay for and they are not separate grades). Don't even bother writing down the notes he puts on the board because they won't help you on the tests anyway. Tough grader too.
Kirkpatrick's class is definitely a challenge but if you attend review down and write down everything he says you're guaranteed to do good. He's really passionate about history and tells a lot of stories. Don't expect an easy A, but a B is absolutely possible and an A if you really work for it. Also the class has zero work outside of class.
I did every single thing I could have done to make an A in this class. I attended & recorded every lecture. I made A's on each of the tests we had & we only had 4 INCLUDING the final. No other grades. No extra credit. No rounding. Just checked my transcript & somehow this class (not the 4 sciences I took) but HISTORY class ruined my 4.0. stay away
HES THE WORST! If you like waste an hour and a half of your time to be yelled/talked at then by all means take this class. He says you dont really need the textbook, but if you want a grade higher than a D you need it. I worked my butt off thought I ended up with an A and only got a B!! I would never in a million years recommend him to anyone!
If you want to learn Accurate ,Relevant And Truthful history, this is the class for you! If your just filling out a basic unit you may have a little trouble. History is a story. What part of the story is relevant to your life today? How did we get here? Kirkpatrick is no PC- BS. He tells the truth as he perceives it. He tells it passionately!
I genuinely never understood history until this prof. He tells it like a story and makes it easy to understand. The tests are half multiple choice and half essay. He gives you a sheet with the terms you need for the tests and 3 essay prompts that he outlines for you in class. Out of the 3 essay prompts, on the test you're given 2/3 and you do 1.
Uncle Steve is a great prof. I would recommend him to anyone, 4 test straightforward just go to class and you will get a good grade. Do not buy the textbook it is a waste of money with him because all of his test he makes and you can tell they came out of his mouth not online. Just go to class, pay attention and take notes. PAY ATTENTION TO REVIEWS
Kirkpatrick is an okay prof. If you truly enjoy learning History then this is the class for you. He only gives four tests and a final so if this is a class you need to pass with an A or B don't take him!! In addition his second test this year got a 42 class average and he was okay with it, just something to keep in mind.
only three tests and a final, grades the essays on the test harder than my english teacher grades, goes off topic during lectures, avoid this guy, your welcome.
Prof Kirkpatrick is a good teacher and really cares about history. He writes on the board everyday and lectures off that. There are no slideshows or anything online to review. If you're not good at taking notes or paying attention to lectures, he's not the guy for you. The class is only 3 tests and the final. Don't use the textbook at all.
Very nice and personable, but all of your grades will be tests. There are no quizzes or homeworks to up your grade which sucks. If you do the review and study you should do fine on the test, but the fact that there are 4 grades altogether leaves no room for error.
Kind of on the fence about him. He genuinely loves what he's teaching but his lectures are kinda whack. He tends to not stay on track with the lecture at hand and doesn't take attendance. Only 3 tests and a final, and each test has a review sheet with about 50 terms on it. Each term is covered on the review day before the test to a helpful point
He is an amazing professor, I never enjoyed history but that was until I had his class. I enjoyed this course. I got an easy A, all you have to do is pay attention to his lecture. He is passionate about the subject and genuinely cares about his students. Don't expect to pass the class if you are not willing to pay attention!
