One of the better instructors in the department. Explains concepts very well, and gives challenging programs.
He was very good in explaining the concepts of a rather difficult C++ class. his assignments could get rather difficult at times, but he was very fair in grading, considering that most haven't done C++ programming before.
Nice guy, willing to help you out and go the extra mile. He really didn't have a lot of C++ experience or very prepared for the labs or some of the concepts taught during class.
Awesome! One of the best CS Profs you'll have; clear; funny; professional; made you WANT to be there for class; Very Interesting; keeps your attention
Steve is the man. He makes the class easy to understand and he has a good sense of humor.
Anyone that awesome is a hottie no matter what he looks like. If you have trouble with a program, he will look at it and tell you exactly where the problem is. Has the funniest example programs: embezzlement, Kermit vs Burns election, etc.
He was a great teacher and very funny!
Very good teacher teaching a very hard subject.
Good teacher. It was a very hard subject but I feel that he taught it very well.
Klein is very good at explaining the material for class. His assignments and tests are very fair and well organized. He does an excelent job at demonstrating on how to do things.
He was a good teacher but offered very little help outside of class or during office hours.
He had a monotone and was a little nerdy when it came to jokes. All in all it was an OK class with an OK teacher.
Klein is an amasing and funny man. Love his class!!!
Klein friggin rocks.
I was his TA for almost 2 years and I never had any problem with him.. He has been always kind and helpful whenever you approach him with any problem. I will always recommend his class to everyone.
He is the best teacher ever. If you go to class, do your assignments, and you are not a total retard- you will do well.
Great teacher would take him for every class if I could.
Great Teacher, Very Helpful, goes above and beyond to help his students.
Stupid jokes, and he assumed everybody in there was a nerd and knew exactly what he was talking about.

I've had Klein for 4 classes now and he is the best. Very helpful and nice. Always willing to answer questions and concerns. He makes the classes enjoyable even if his jokes are nerdy sometimes; but hey it's computer science so deal with it.

This guy rocks! I bet he'd awesome at parties!
Easy for non computer majors
He was awesome! This was the only class I actually had no desire to skip! I didn't know a thing about computer programming when I went into the class, but now I'm so interested I'm considering a minor.
favorite CS instructor! very cool and entertaining. i am just disappointed that i dont get him for any higher level classes. i had him for my 100 level classes (111, 140, 150) and i thought they might have been almost a little too easy but i dont know how everyone else did

best teacher i've had in college so far.... fun and tells hilariously stupid jokes... gotta love it
The raddest computer science instructor ever. Probably the funniest teacher I have ever had, but I can see some people not getting his sense of humor. Very knowledgable. I wish he taught upper level courses.
amazing guy
every class is a power point and he just talks. Don't really need to attend many classes except to do in class assignments which there are 20. Only 4 tests not a hard class. Material is a lil difficult but i barely studied at all and got a B. The in class assignments are super easy you just have to go to class on the right days.
I had this guy for 4 classes, he is one of the best teachers in the department. Hilarious, kind and genuinely interested in his students. If you go to his office hours he will spend as much time as you need helping you, and in class, he's a blast. Highly recommended.
I've had Mr. Klein for CS 111 and CS 150. He is very funny and teaches the material well. His programs are fairly difficult but I found his tests to be a breeze. As long as you keep up w/ the work, you can get a good grade.
He is awesome!..i have taken him for cs 111, 150, and 240 and is by far the best professor I have had for the subject. He is down to Earth and keeps his classes interesting...award for coolist professor goes to...Steve Klein!
Very helpful in and outside of class. Clearly organized lectures, and willing to explain anything if you ask. He seems like he wants his students to know the information. Keeps the mood light, yet is serious about his assignments and tests. Study hard and you'll do fine.
I only was taking it because it is required for me as a gen ed. and now I really enjoy it and if I needed to find classes to fill my schedule up I would definitely take more and try to get him as my teacher!
LOL that says alot for him. One of the best teachers at SIUE didn't do the best in his class but it was and still is the best class i have taken in this college.
He was a very funny teacher. I learned a lot in his class. The material was hard to understand if never taken before, but I understood most of it. I saw him a few times for help on the programs, but overall very fair and fun teacher
Awsome teacher, easly my favorite at siue
Very good teacher. Keeps class interesting and is very funny. If you ask quesitons he will explain it until you understand it. Tells you what to expect on tests which helped alot.
Klein is awesome. Great attitude and excellent understanding of the material. Exams are worth a relatively small amount of points, so if you are confidant in your programming, an "A" will be a cakewalk. He takes a little longer than would be optimal in returning exams and programs, but overall he is an excellent teacher who I definitely recommend
The favorite teacher for all the kids that change majors after a semester. His class is fun because he moves so slowly through the material that a chimp could get an A in his class and he skips a lot of important material. Be prepared for Socrates to blow your mind after you get away from this guy.
Fairly boring, typical powerpoint lectures, occasionally punctuated with entertaining remarks. Klein's classes are extremely easy - past the point of being boring. There's little reason to go to class. He doesn't always explain complex material in the clearest way. Having said all this, he is as helpful and kind as teachers come.
I had taken CS 140 before and did very poorly in it. In Klein's class I could understand the material a lot more. He explained everything in a way that for someone who is not at CS major could understand.
I have never taken a computer science course before this year. Mr. Klein was the perfect launch pad for CS 140. He explained and broke down concepts so everyone could understand.
Professor Klein is one of my favorite teachers. He made learning computer code interesting and fun. He made every class entertaining with stories and jokes, along with usefull info. All the notes are on slide shows and are easy to take. The exams are just like the homework. I recomend working on the homework in a group. Great teacher! TAKE HIM!
He is funny and a good teacher. Can't ask for someone better. Class is not mandatory to attend but he has a class activity almost every day and each one is worth 5 points so it's better for your grade to attend class. Loved him.

Teacher for 111,140,and 150. He's a good guy and can be a fairly easy teacher on an engineering scale. 111 is difficult considering it is an introductory course. Good at teaching programming. He is helpful when it comes to learning concepts, but from my experience can be a real ***hole for any other problems(program submission issues & gen mistakes
Really funny and knowledgable teacher. Made coming to class interesting. Very good at teaching the material and the assignments weren't that hard. The 2 tests were easy too. This teacher is the best.
Great teacher that really connects with the students. Always very clear and concise.
Worked my tail off in this class and had nothing to show for it. Throws in questions at times on tests that were not in slides or notes. He grades his writing papers harder than any English teacher I have ever had, and that is my major. If you know computers then you will do fine in this class, if not prepare for a long semester.
Lecture can be a bit dry, but he does his best to keep it interesting. His tests aren't too hard plus he's an easy grader. If you have no prior programming experience you should do just fine as long as you keep up.
Great teacher. I was worried about the class before I took it, but he's awesome. He's helpful and he tries to be funny and he makes class interesting. Definitely recommend him. My favorite professor in college so far.
Really poor teacher for both CS140 and CS111. His notes/teaching are extremely confusing and his tests and programs can be ludicrous at times. I changed majors after taking these 2 classes with him. He's all they got though so good luck.
Steve is awesome!! His lectures are interesting and he always keeps you on your toes. His exams are difficult, but if you show up to class, take notes and study hard, you should have no trouble!
Lectures are boring powerpoints, but he tosses in a few jokes to keep you awake. The programming assignments are helpful to the topics you are learning; however, some assignments are difficult to finish in the deadline period. Also, dont expect timely feedback on the programs. Exams are difficult, but study the powerpoints and you'll do fine.
He is a great teacher. You should do well if you pay attention in class and study the powerpoint slides.
Klein is a very clear, funny, and relatable professor. He makes it obvious that he actually cares about his students, and will do everything he can to help you succeed. My only complaint was that he isn't a very timely grader, and feedback basically just consisted of whether or not your code met the criteria. Overall, he was one of my favorites.
Klein was there for me at a rough point in my life. He saw me struggling and went out of his way to help me pass 150. I have the utmost respect for him as a professor and as a person in general. The lectures didn't help me all that much, but I hardly ever went to class, I mostly went for the jokes he tells.
Klein is my favorite professor I've had at SIUE. He is funny, engaging, and explains concepts clearly. 111 is a breeze if you read the book and study the slides. 140, 150, and 240, however, can be challenging and I would advise attending. I spent hours in his office completely lost and he is always there to accommodate and answer any questions.
Klein is the best CS professor I've had, and I would recommend him for as many classes as you can take him for. He often extends program due dates if asked, and is very helpful in office hours. His in-class activities help, and he's a fair grader. He cares that his students understand and is very friendly. Take Klein, take Klein, take Klein.
The most important thing about this class is showing up. There are daily class activities each are 5-15 pts. Each 15 pt activity is 2.5% of you total grade. It hurts when you miss two 15 pt activities. Exams are straight forward. Come to class to hear the lecture and do the activities and the exams should be easy. Seriously, dont skip.
10/10
I had him for all the basic programming classes and eased through all of them. He's not a great lecturer(talking tone wise) but very informative. Study guides for tests are very helpful if you dedicate your time -- it is everything he talked about in class. Just go to his office hours when facing problems and you will receive a good grade.
Definitely one of a kind. Different than any other professors I have ever had. Cracks jokes all the time. Down to Earth. When he needs to be serious and get down to business, he does not hesitate. Tests are straightforward and similar to the program assignments. Tests are mix of T/F, MC, and small methods. A lot of conceptual q's on tests.
Very approachable and reasonable.
Probably my favorite instructor on campus. He clearly loves what he teaches and tries his best to make lectures as entertaining as he can. Very animated when he speaks, which adds to his charm. Very helpful both in and outside of class. Don't expect timely feedback though, you won't get it.
Think of all the glowing reviews you can and say Prof. Klein's name in them. Genuine, direct, consistent. Clearly told us what was expected, made great tests, and if people showed up late or what-have-you he told them no or asked them to leave as he said. Respect him and he'll respect you back. Fantastic.
He is a great teacher. He helped me when I needed and he is really understanding. I will definitely take him again.
Steve is pretty funny. He's also a very easy instructor. Hes great for 100 level classes like 111/140/150, but he really shouldn't be instructing the 300/400 level classes. I just didn't learn much at all. Be prepared to write papers and be graded on English abilities as well. He likes to flaunt that English degree of his.
Not a great teacher, his lectures weren't all that helpful. He would say something or mention something once and it'll appear on the exam. Exams werent based off the study guides, and he cares more about the technical stuff of coding rather than the coding itself. I feel like I left class with no knowledge on any of the topics he covered
He is a very engaging lecturer and as long as you pay attention in class you should do fine.
Very fun and engaging. He clearly loves what he does and will make you love it too. He's hilarious, and explains thing well. He has a crystal clear grasp on the material and will teach you well. 100% recommend.
Professor Klein is a really great professor. He cares about his students and is willing to offer help outside of class. The exams are easy as long as you do the homework and pay attention in class. The programs can get difficult, but Klein is willing to help if you get stuck.
Computing Ethics is probably best taught by Klein because of his background in both English and CS. He did very well for it being an online course and had us do a lot of group activities as opposed to just boring lecture. He can be a picky grader on your writing assignments but he's not too bad. Put in some effort and you'll be fine. Mostly easy A.
As classes are now nearly entirely online, especially for CS courses, Klein has so far been the best at adapting to the new format. The lectures are engaging and comprehensive and he is available outside of class to give substantive real help. Put effort into the online textbook and come to him with questions and you'll be fine.
Professor Klein is a great professor. He is very friendly and cares about his students. His class was a fun one. He had enjoyable activities and really worked to make the material enjoyable and engaging. He grades writing assignments a bit tough, but other than that, this class wasn't too difficult.
CS360 was a fun class. Klein does a great job of teaching it and is a professor that really cares about his students.
I have taken class in 2000 which I believe the first year for prof Klein. His teaching style was good and was very easy to approach for follow up questions.
Klein is a very well-organized professor. He's very clear with his lectures and is great at demonstrating the material in a way that makes it as easy to understand as you can get for computer science. If you hear people say he's a strict grader, they're probably just upset that they didn't finish their weekly assignments 30 minutes before it's due.
Funny Guy, the 150 class i was in didn't ask many questions and were generally shy. But Klein is a very entertaining teacher and I'd advise you to take him any chance you get. Just wish he'd respond to emails faster. : ) (also he lets you know what to study on tests pretty well)
Steve was lowkey one of the coolest guys I've ever had as a professor, BUTTTTTTT if you are someone like me who needs things graded quickly, GOOD LUCK! I took Exam 2 probably 5 weeks ago, and there is still no grade put on- this is the case for multiple other assignments yet still too. Great guy, but bro get organized.
The best professor you can take for classes. He makes class so incredibly entertaining. Although you must remember the instructions he gives you as he will stick to procedures he outlines in the syllabus. He is a joy to be with and i recommend going to him for anything youre confused with. Genuinely one of the best professors i have had.
Klein has been one of my favorite professors. The material can be hard at times, but this class is not hard to pass. He makes the lectures enjoyable and does well at explaining concepts and there are a lot of resources outside of class to use to understand things if you don't get it in class. He's funny and all the assignments are easy to get done.
Klein remains my favorite teacher this semester. Easy to understand class material, Klein's lectures are always awesome. CS 360 is more about breaking out of your shell and expressing your ideas than it is about hammering in vocab, in my opinion. Looked forward to going to this one every Tuesday or Thursday.
