Arrogant, bad attitude, difficult to deal with.
not my kind of prof
he makes a stats course as enjoyable as it could possibly be
he adds humour to the course
Looks like Mr. Holland's Opus
At least he tries to be funny. And he does his best to make stats fun
great prof, da only Math related course I go 2 class 4
long assignments duing exam times, arrogant sarcasm, made fun of art &football
You are so dead come EXAM time, good guy - hard working - tries to help!

Great prof... really funny and sarcastic
FUNNY and friendly. Smart too!
He insults his wife every year in class, puts students down whom he counsels, is very inconsiderate
well done, kopp!
DON'T ASK HIM FOR HELP! He will make fun of you. If you don't understand it, you're in trouble, just learn it yourself or ask someone other than him. Exam and assignments were annoying, but alright.
This is the funniest prof ever! i luved his class even though his assignments were killer! and final was brutal. But the most useful class i've ever taken. He is an extremely good prof and very enthusuastic!
A terrible prof, whose exams are difficult only in so much as is his anal attention to minor details. Avoid him if at all possible.
Really nice prof. enjoyed his lectures a lot. fair exams if you pay attention to his lectures.
very good prof, explain things very clear, can learn lots of things in his class. exam is based on his lecture notes, if you understand all things in his notes, you will be really well done on the exam. you don't need to buy textbook, his notes is everything.
Really Really Good Prof. Explains everything clearly. You will learn a lot. Fair exam. If you go to his class you'll know what to expect.
Didn't explain things, hard exams, boring speaker. All in all a bad prof.
He was a good prof as far as his organization and lectures goes. HE knows his stuff. Partly because he's been teaching the course for so long. His exams are extremely hard to the point that you could die from too much thinking. Who would have thought MC exams would be this hard. All the choices were possible mistakes you could make and since h
the BEST prof i have evered had in my life!!!
he was probably the hardest prof i ever had. his exams are very hard. the examples he does in class are soo easy but the question he tests you are crazy hard. i liked the course but the tests and final were reallly hard.
Very reluctant to answer questions and condescending when you ask questions. Very judgemental if you don't understand. Unpleasant
he's probably the hardest prof. Don't take him if you have a choice. His MC questions are HARD and he never gives enough time to finish them. His lectures are very clear and simple. But he kills you in the final. Overall, i had a bad experience taking his class. Don't take his class.
Hardest course ever! Don't take this course unless you absolutely have to. Kopp is good guy. His lectures are interesting but it is simply too much information to absorb in such a short period of time.
awful experience, hard course with a lot of material to cover. Prof is an old man who's been teaching the course for over 20 yrs, you'd think he'd know how teach properly by now! Instead you can look forward to demeaning, nasty comments if you ask for help and bossy, arrogant behavior during office hours. Skip this one if you can!
Clear notes & lectures, pretty useful assignments & quizzes. Best prof i've ever seen!!
awesome notes! nice guy.
The amount of work in this class is overwhelming. Fall behind at your own risk. Steve teaches clearly. He appreciates people who work hard. I always worked to finish his hand out assignments early, and while he never gave me the answers, he would go over them with me and point out where I was wrong. His exams were tough but easier than assignments
Professor Kopp is a very entertaining and dedicated prof. He's been teaching 2053 apparently for over 25 years. He makes a lot of jokes to try to keep you awake during the night class. The exams are tricky, but not impossible to get perfect if you can catch the tricks -- they are exactly the questions done in class.
Great prof! I learned so much from his statistics course. He covers a lot of stuff very quickly, but as long as you keep up with the material his quizzes and exams are easy.
Classes were drier than the desert. Most of the time, I just wished he would get to freaking point, and be simple about what formula to use and when, but no. his lectures were long, boring and reminiscent of biology classes. I'm here to learn stats, not freaking biology!
I took the first year Actsci which was the new prog. i forgot the course number so just put random #. anyway kopp is very great prof. good teaching with good jokes. HOWEVER EXAM IS FREAKING HARD. WAY TO HARD. I love his teaching style and everything but exams and assignments are extremely hard... just let you know
The textbook will teach you just as well as the prof (hell, he is one of the authors). Quizzes are just easy Q's from homework and exams are mixed with easy and challenging hw q's. I'm not sure, but I think he bumped up everyone's mark for the april exam because i definitely wasn't expecting 95%...or maybe i got lucky with multiple choice. lol
Too much content in a half term course that doesn't require any stat prereq. Quizes and exams were too hard compared to prev years, and not like the questions in the text.
Really nice prof. Tries to keep it interesting even though the material's pretty dull. Quizzes can be difficult, but the exams are pretty easy if you study well
A relatively difficult course with a low class average. Most of the material is pretty straightforward but he focuses on a bunch of obscure exceptions that never arise in the real world. Act. Sci. 2053 is one of the primary Ivey dream killers. You really have to work for every mark and if you miss even one concept your grade will plummet Stay away.
decent but too hard for a first year course
An okay prof but he moves way too fast. There is no time to review or catch up on anything so if you fall behind you're pretty much screwed. Keep up with all the work and suggested exercises though and you should be fine for the tests.
Very nice.
Super good!! Best prof I have ever had!!I love him so much!!Stats is extremely easy if your prof is Kopp!I almost cried in his last class. I even want to change my major to actuarial science only because of Kopp! I never read the textbook and I don't think I would understand it anyways, but I got 97% on my second midterm with his lecture notes only
I absolutely agree that he flies through the material, but he's very clear about each concept in doing so. You can't miss lectures, because he's a "post notes with blank parts we'll complete in class" guy. I think he gave a formula page in the exams, but he might not have. Either way, if there were ever a class that required one, this is it.
Kopp is a great prof! Makes hilarious jokes the whole class, makes getting up for 9:30 stats a little easier! Didn't use the textbook at all! Stopped doing homework questions after the first midterm. Just go with his notes all you need to know! Stats had to be one of the most skipped classes in 2nd year and thats why some people thought it was hard
Seemed like a nice guy, and told jokes a lot. Course wise, had no idea what he was talking about half the time and he spoke really fast as well. Though he is a nice guy, he is not very sympathetic. Overall, I very much despised the course and would not recommend it.
Funny at times, but overall, not the best prof. Moves way too fast, and most of the time no one knows what he's talking about. Likes to focus on examples rather than teach theory behind examples. Exams are brutal!!!!
Evaluations were exactly what should be expected based on the suggested problems and the multiple practice quizzes/midterms he posts before every test. I liked the overhead notes. He sometimes moved quickly, but if you keep up with the homework it shouldn't be too hard to follow along/catch up later.
The content is pretty interesting and it's fairly easy to listen to his lectures. I went to office hours once and he made me feel like an idiot for asking the questions I had. Midterm was easy but final was MC which sucked.
He babbles in class. Very hard exams. I did well because I got a tutor. I only went to his class to get notes, it was difficult to keep up with him
Kopp is a nice guy and really funny. Pay attention in class and take the notes. I got 86 and basically all I did was do all of the assigned homework problems. Communicates well with students. Quizzes are fairly standard if you do homework. Exams are fair, watch for tricks. Almost everything taught you'll use upon graduation so pay attention.
super thorough, humor is a little dry but it is very clear he loves what he does and is very knowledgeable on the subject
Kopp is a nice, he is pretty clear, and is ALWAYS willing to help. His quizzes aren't too bad, he adds tricks to them but if you know what you're doing, you'll do good. The exams weren't hard, pretty straight forward. If you attend class, and study for the quizzes/exams and you'll be fine! Tries to be funny, and is very helpful.
Overheads are filled with mistakes. Had a tendency to fall behind the other sections and then rushed through the material to catch up. But other than that, he's a pretty clear proff with a great sense of humour. Exams/quizzes were very fair.
He sort of reminds you of a goofy dad by the amount of lame jokes he crack. That said, he is an amazing prof. He makes things very clear, and as long as you go to class he gives you plenty of examples. Always gives practice materials for quizzes and tests, overall one of my favourite profs at Western.
Low class averages speak volumes about his teaching. Could definitely be more accommodating and approachable. Would not recommend.
Steve's lectures are the most boring and the least helpful I've experienced. Very tough quizzes and tests. Overall the worst course I've taken at Western.
This prof is really insane! He asks what he is not doing in lectures , all questions are not related to what he does in class, i always got correct answers (calculation stuff) but he gave 38 , when you ask him to remark he is so rude, i am an international student i have never seen any Canadian rude like that.
Love the class, the haters in the comments probably don't go to class. Tests and quizzes are a breeze If you know what you're doing, there's plenty of time. Memorable quotes: "Oh I forgot, I need to bring my sleeping bag to the afternoon class" "Note to self do not repeat joke next year" "I'm moving to the Bahamas" "Profs make no money"
very difficult online course do not take it as an alternative for bio stats, instead take psych stats online its SOO much easier, wish i had someone telling me this, spent 3 months of my summer putting effort into this hard course. DONT MAKE MY MISTAKE TAKE psych stats, btw my mark was 90 only because i spent 203 hrsday on it othrwise u dnt get it
DO NOT TAKE THIS ONLINE COURSE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
As if I didn't have a prof. It was truly as ONLINE course.
ummm online 2035 was a joke and I'm a low 80 student and I passed with a 90. ignore these comments, it's very easy and do it instead of bio stats.
What a nice guy. Makes great dad jokes and the lectures are small and fairly interactive. Makes what seems like a dull subject actually somewhat interesting. Requires a lot of memorization but useful and not a bad course to take.
He is funny and when he gives lectures, he is right on point. No time wasted. He is a cool professor that understands students.
His lectures are boring and the least helpful, I had to teach everything to myself. His test and quizzes are difficult, and the way he asked questions were very absurd, and requires you to memorize everything. Everyone takes the prep courses in order to succeed since the lectures are a waste. Overall the worst experience of my undergrad.
Professor explains concepts well but only gives the most basic of examples. On the tests and 20min quizzes, he asks the most absurd and complicated questions that are worded to trick you. The short quizzes are impossible to finish on time because of this and it hurts your grade a ton
Decent prof, lectures aren't extremely boring but he can go fast at some points. Participation marks are awarded during class and examples are completed, so you can't afford to miss a lot of class. Lots of opportunities to do well through quizzes, participation marks, and exams. I truly hate math, but I can somewhat tolerate it in this class.
He's a very funny guy, but in his lectures he gives the simplest examples but, the questions on his exams and quizzes are extremely difficult, and not enough time is given. The tutorials are where a lot of the harder questions are solved, so don't skip. This class is hard, but he's a very understanding guy, if you have questions he'll help.
Your marks on quizzes could make or break this class. If you do well on quizzes then you should be fine for the exams. No Christmas final which is nice too. First exam is a lot of review from 1228 and grade 12 data so it's the easiest. After that, exams become very hard but if you do prep with Tina you're okay
Exams are really fair and he always puts up lots of practices quizzes/exams to study from. He's also very clear at explaining concepts and an overall good and organized professor.
he is the best prof i've ever had!
appreciated
Kopp is fantastic. He makes very boring material bearable with dad jokes and fairy engaging lectures. Quizzes are short and cover a lot of material so keep up as the material comes. Midterm and final were both tough but fair. Overall great guy.
He should be an actor tbh. Thanks to him I would think of some dude called Steve Kopps whenever I go to a bank or an insurance company. Probably heard more jokes in this class than the sum of my rest of university life. Anyway, he's a good one.
Smart guy and explains concepts fairly well but goes super fast in class, is an annoying lecturer, and his exams are very hard. Make sure you study for quizzes as they can help boost your overall grade. Also go to class and answer all the clicker questions because those are easy marks too.
This course was definitely my average ruiner. The quizzes are ridiculously hard honestly I studied days for each and still failed all but one. Kopp said this year that out of the 150 kids 20 dropped after the mid and 50 failed after the final so If you do not need this course do not take it! Class average of 65 after a hefty curve .
Great teacher, not so nice person
Quizzes are ridiculously hard. Youd get an automatic 2/8 for just putting your name and student number but I would fully complete the quiz and still only be able to get 2/8.... I was so pissed off like wow I might as well have just handed it in blank with my name and student # LOL. Defs do prep101 with tina if you can.
Really good professor and teacher, super rude and disrespectful person. I enjoyed his lectures but he is an incredibly rude person to talk to. I definitely don't feel comfortable speaking to him and asking him questions in a one on one setting, his professionality disappears. Don't email him asking questions unless you want your head ripped off.
don't take this course if you don't want your average to be ruined
As a student studying economics, I took this course as an elective. Funnily enough, it is more work than my core econ courses. However, the material you learn is extremely useful even if you are not going into actuarial science. Overall, he made this tough course bearable and definitely possible to get 90+ since this is a math heavy course.
This prof came across as rude whenever I emailed him. Wasn't very lenient on anything. Lectures were long and boring, and exams were hard.
Foolish
He prides himself on giving very hard assessments near SOA exam lvl, so if you don't do the tutorial questions and the assigned problems, you will fail. He does plenty of examples in class so that when you go to do the hw, your set. He also provides solutions to all hw and tests, which is nice to get yourself unstuck. Assignments save ur grade.
A lot like high school math. If you like to memorize this will be fun for you.
His quizzes are ridiculously hard and exams are not easy either.
Very rude and mean. He ruined my undergraduate life, I also suffered from depression because of SS2035, and I will never forgive him.
the course is Very difficult, very rude professor
Absolutely loved this class with him. Lectures consist of going through a bunch of examples so attendance is pretty important, but the exams are very similar to the notes and are pretty fair IMO. If you like math and learn well by doing examples over and over I would highly recommend this class!!
Not a hard course if you go to his lectures. Attendance are not necessary but he has clicker questions sometimes. Lectures are an hour each and if you understand what he's teaching it goes by really quick. Make sure to do the practice tests and you will be fine, no need for textbook homework or reading the textbook, just go to class.
The way Kopp structures this course is excellent. Content is (in my opinion) very useful and was often applied to various real-world problems well. He also gives more than enough practice problems and past quizzes/exams to study. While not an easy class, if you put in the work and have a knack for math or investing, you'll likely do well.
He is a great prof. i would recommend going to class although it is not necessary to do well. he is a great guy and is always willing to give you extra help. overall he is a funny and super caring professor. i had him for 2 full year classes and it was a pleasure.
Best professor I've had. The content is very tough however he makes it entertaining with his personality and does a great job of teaching it. Definitely need to attend lectures to do well but that should be expected.
Honestly, just the WORST. Might be a great guy, but is the worst possible prof. Has such an attitude with his students, and simply does not care about you. Tutorials are SO quick, slides are SO unhelpful, and everything about his tutorials and exams are your worst nightmare.
He's the best prof I've ever had up to now!!! He's so funny and delivers the content so well, he explains things very nicely!! And no. matter how horrible I feel or how tired I am that day, I never caught myself with a wandering mind in his. class!
He is the nicest prof - knows his stuff, supportive and lectures are so funny! Exams aren't hard either
Not a fan. whatsoever. He is lowkey rude, tries to be funny and is just passive. He is mentally retired, physically a lecturer. Exams are not fair whatsoever. Get ACE tutoring for the year and prep101. It will save your grade. This class is how AEO students lose Ivey. Avoid at all costs. Your welcome
Seems like some people don't like him but I found him very amusing and an overall good prof. His exams weren't super easy but with proper amount of studying you can definitely do very well. Class isn't too bad if you put in a solid amount of effort
His humor isn't my cup of tea but overall I really enjoyed his lectures and the course structure with prepared class notes, solutions, and practice quizzes/exams. Understanding his in-class examples and do the recommended exercises/practice exams will make all the assessment a breeze.
GOAT. hilarous guy and provides lots of material to study with
Difficult class.
Makes sarcastic jokes that only he laughs at himself
Currently taking Stats 2035 with him during 2024/2025. Great prof, 1 hr lectures so you dont get bored, and just listening to his lectures and noting down on overheads helps a lot!! would strongly recommend taking a course with him.
This course is no joke - heavy on memorization and requires serious commitment. But the professor makes it bearable with his engaging style. Use unstuck study, the free textbook, and attend all lectures to ace this tough but rewarding class.
Tough class but he definitely made it more bearable. His humour wasn't exactly my type but by the end of the semester I began to appreciate it. Best of luck in retirement!
Horrible professor, thinks he's funny with his little jokes. Retirement is gonna look good on him.
