Very easy class: minimal reading, extra credit opportunities, no role taken, study guides for every test (pretty much spells out what you need to know). Lectures easy to follow.

overall easy class but hes totally unclear on what he wants for a test. He gave us a midterm study guide and it was totally unhelpful for his multiple choice midterm which I practically failed but so did everyone else...

Good teacher, passionate about his subject. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Unclear on the grading for a lot of the class. 2 quizzes on 2 books, and 2 test (midterm and final). Small amount of points in the class. Lectures are very closely related to the book. No role!

he really knew what he was talking about, but not in a way that was interesting to the students. was bored out of my mind more of the time, then not. just couldnt involve us at all, even though he tried. i figured that if i was glazing over in the first class, theres a problem.

u have a lot of reading, 2 book and textbook. ur quized on the 2 books, a midterm that multi choice and a final thats essay. What sucks about the final is he gives you 4 topic but only test u on 2, but won't tell u until test day. If u have more than 9 unit, try to pick someone else.

his class is easy if u can make it to every lecture... if i had gone to hius lectures i would have easily gotten a very good grade,quizzes on books are easy only IF U ACTUALLY READ,offers annoying extra credit,is extremely anal,will go crazy bout cell phones,only take him if u r willing 2 go 2 class

Take notes...lots of them, and read. He knows his stuff but gives hard tests. Read the books he gives you, and do the extra credit. I got a D on the mid-term, but I did the extra credits and passed the class with a C+. A few movies.

I didnt really enjoy this class...was pretty boring thru most of it, 4 quizzes worth 40% of your final grade(10% each), 2 of those 4 were 1-2 paragraph hit or miss quizzes. Had to read 2 books, 1 of them can be found in cliffnotes form which worked perfectly for the quizzes. The class is passable however if youre lazy and take it C/NC...

Leiken was so great I actually was sad the last day of class. I took him in night class which I think is his element and is also where you get a better class for discussion. Final was a take home, lots of extra creidt. And he's a cutie pie

he makes an uninteresting topic so interesting...a GREAT teacher if i ever saw one, really knows his****...makes you want to be involved in conversation...no hw, almost all reading..midterms and finals are crazy though!! he gives you 60 words/phrases to study, then he picks 10 for the test, you pick 7 to write a page or so about (in a blue book) the more you know the better..if u do a study group, which he reccommends, make sure everyone does their work, cause it will reaallly screw you up if they dont.

I thought he was a very good teacher and he was very enthusiastic about a very boring supject matter and his class was really clear and you knew exactly what you needed to get your grade in the class...i really got into the history and thought he was very good.

This class was so easy. Sure, you have to read if you want to pass his quizzes. But he will make it as easy as possible. I slept through his lectures almost everyday, but still managed to get an A. Hell let you know whats going to be on the test/exams.

i thought his grading was pretty weird, but he's okay. he doesnt stress too much on a lot of things, but you hear a lot about what he has interest in. i recommend taking this if you like history, he knows his stuff.

Leikin is an engaging lecturer, very loud too. sometimes it gets a little boring. the only thing is, your entire grade is based on your quiz & exam scores. quizzes were on books you read, for the midterm/final, you get a list of 50 topics, & you have to know it all because he'll randomly pick like 10 for the exam.

He is great, funny teacher. Although the material is very boring and the classes extremely long (especially when you take the class once a week...3 hours is a bit too long). You have to attend class, take good notes, and read the books. If you do all of the above, it's pretty easy to pass the class. Tests are very hard and stressful though.

He's a great person and professor, too bad the subject is boring as HECK. If you take decent notes and read every once in awhile you can pass with a B or so. You also have to actually prepare for midterms/finals, but it helps you with study skills. His class isn't easy breezy, but it sure in heck ain't hard if that's all you're wondering.

This is not an easy class, unless you LOVE history, and believe me, you have to love it to stay awake in this class... Professor is very funny! Tests are hard, reading the text is a must if you want to pass the class!

if you like history, then take this class. If you are taking it for GE like i did, don't take this class. He gets really into his lectures, but no matter how enthusiastic he gets, history is boring. BORING. fell asleep 9/10 classes. but passed with a B. just read before quizes and study hard for midterm and final. he gives out a study guide

One of the best lecturers at SF State. But, also a difficult class. 5 quizzes worth 50% of your grade. Ouch. 2 are announced and 3 are unannounced so read every class unless you want to take a chance. Sit up front and you will be entertained about some interesting and some boring subjects.

LOVED this guy! He's really passionate and interested about history so it made the topic bearable, even enjoyable! However you must be a good test taker because there isn't any homework grades to save your grade.

He is interesting teacher, that is very lively. i really enjoyed his class, but unfortunately i fell asleep because i had this class as a nite class, but other that it was great. the lectures were very clear, but you have to pay close attention or you will miss what is he is saying

GREAT TEACHER !!! Wonderful class! I didn't think I would like History but he really made me like History !! You learn so much and if you do the assigned reading you'll pass the class with an A or B. One midterm and a final! Highly recommend him if you are considering this class!!!

If you thoroughly enjoy history, take this class, you will probably love it. Leikin is a great guy and the books he chooses present unique perspectives on America's racial history. One midterm, one final. The only complaint is that Leikin doesn't really tell you what the midterm and final are on until the last minute.

Only take this class if you are interested in history. The class was easy if you read every week and actually listened to his lectures, but half the time I was sleep, playing my DS, or didn't go. I mainly just showed up for the quiz every week. His lectures are very uninteresting, but that's only because I don't care for History at all.

he's a really good professor. read the chapters from the book because quizzes are announced and unannounced so you never know. he doesn't like when people are late and walk in through the front door. go to class too, he is helpful and welcomes questions.

Mr. Leikin has good knowledge of the subject and is a very active speaker. He is sort of biased sometimes. Overall he's a good teacher, study for the quizzes & the tests and the class shouldn't be that hard. He can be rude and mean to some, but mostly to disrespectful students. If you talk to him personally he's much nicer, & it helps in the class.

I personally found this subject matter for this course very boring but everyone else in the class seemed to enjoy it. But professor Leikin seems like a good guy and is fair. There are a lot of writing assignments in this class but for the most part they are fairly easy.If you are someone who is usually tardy stay away, Leikin hates late people.

AWESOME. I am planning on taking other courses with Leikin. Incredibly knowledgeable and interesting, Leikin is an unusual teacher in this day and age. You will learn more than the typical US History that is taught in most classes. He is always willing to help you study during office hours, or answer any questions.

I found Dr. Leiken to be an interesting character. At first he struck me as stern and austere, but he later turned out to be a very funny guy. His expectations were clearly stated, and all one need to do to do well is to so all of the reading. I would recommend his class.

This guy rubbed me the wrong way. Trickster. Plus the dude sweats like no other. I don't know if anyone told him but undershirts are all the rage. no need for belly sweat. there is a quiz every week. you must read the text otherwise you will fail. no joke.

I really like Professor Leikin. He is funny, which keeps the class interesting. I do not see anything negative about him, and I can't see how anybody could. There is not a whole lot of homework, and tests are really not that bad. I would recommend him to other people, and I would take another one of his classes myself.

this class was not bad, i hate history and did fine in the class. there are 2 midterms but you only have to take one best grade taken then a final exam over everything. there are two novels to read and the quizes were easy if you read. he offers one extra credit assignment. if you dont like reading not the class for you.

Leikin is a fantastic lecturer and deserves a F/T position. He's completely fair, sometimes funny, welcomes questions, and chatty during his office hours. One who reads the material thoughtfully and can clearly demonstrate it in writing won't have a problem. He does have a low tolerance for students who aren't serious-- then again so would I.

Lectures are pretty boring. It was hard to pay attention too maybe because it was a 3hr lecture class..wasn't that enjoyable though. Two midterms but one is optional. One midterm is an essay and if u do bad u can take the 2nd which is multiple choice. He gives 10 extra credit pts for final if type notes.

This teacher is SO BORING. Thank god, I found a friend. Other than that, you can almost always fall asleep in his lecture. I probably wouldn't pass without his extra credits. 2 mid-terms ( one is optional) and a final. The books are boring but the quiz are an easy 10 question.

Super, super boring but easy class. He's a great guy but I think it's difficult to get a boring class to be motivated no matter who you are. We watched WAY too many movies. But I can't stress how easy this class is. The mid-term and final are multiple choice & some small paragraphs. Punishingly boring to sit in class though.

He has a passion for history, but he is not that great at making it at all interesting. His lectures seem to drag on forever. Its hard to take accurate notes because he is always jumping around on dates and events. He plays a video at least every class that will put you right to sleep. I'd only take this class if you need units.

Really nice guy. Class wasn't too difficult. He offers a pretty good extra credit opportunity. It's a lot of work, but its worth it. Tests aren't bad, just make sure you prepare and for God's sake DO THE READING for the quizzes. If you read, there is no way you could fail the quiz. Lectures were a little boring to me, but I don't like history.

He is a very passionate lecturer, which makes it easy to pay attention. He gives an outline of what he is going to lecture about but its vague and their is no power point. Midterm and Final are essays but the questions can be vague, so its hard to know what he is looking for. Huge positive is if you do chapter outlines he raises your grade 10%:D

His lectures were interesting, but hard to stay for the whole thing (I had the 3 hour class). I recommend not taking the 3 hour class and definitely do the extra credit. It was the difference between a B and an A for me. The textbook is great help for the tests, which are really easy because he tells you exactly what will be on them.

I have no interest in History, but I love his class! He is so fun to listen to because it is so apparent that he loves what he is teaching. I am enjoying reading "Coming of Age in Mississippi." It's a great book! Also, his quizzes on the books are so easy! His midterm wasn't too hard. Just make sure you review! :)

Leikin is probably the most passionate teacher I had all year. It gets mad when nobody participates. Leikin's class is extremely boring though, it is not mandatory, but some of the stuff he covers in class is necessary for the tests. We read 2 books, one was boring and 300 pages. We only got quizzed of ch1. The other was 300pgs but not as boring.

Professor Leikin is AMAZING. i love history and plan to get my minor in history, this guy has afirmed my wanting a minor. his lectures were entertaining (even though i fall asleep sometimes, but thats from a health problem i've been fighting) his tests are easy if you do the study guides and goto class. i got B's on the book quizes without reading.

This man was really enthusiastic when he lectured and it kept me entertained. I learned a lot in his class however his lectures do tend to get boring sometimes and i end up not going to class. All in all this man is passionate, articulate, and charismatic. Everything you want from such potentially dull subject matter.

Class was boring and you have to consistently be writing down the random things he says in order to catch everything that will be on your exam/study guides. Ec was a nice boost but you will need it since his test questions are vague and he once tested us on Ch.1 of a 300 page book we read. He's a pretty nice guy but plays favorties with classes.

This guy loves history and is a great speaker. But the class is very boring. He gives extra credit, which is a pain, but VERY helpful. Exams are ridiculous and vague, a lot of studying a referencing required to pass them. Two novels are required, the quizzes on those racked up easy points. Teacher is very willing to help during office hours.

my favorite teacher this semester. i did go into the class with this era of us history being one of my favorite subjects but if your even relatively interested this guy knows what he is talking about and is passionate about it. DO the extra credit for the whole semester it can be alot of work but it raises a whole letter grade. great class

He's so nice, and he has an obvious interest and passion for history. His class honestly can get a little boring; I had a hard time convincing myself to go sometimes because it was a 3 hour long class. I'd still say he's a good teacher though.

Leikin is extremely passionate about history and he does an amazing job at explaining events in clear detail. He gives study guides for the midterm and final so there's no surprises. As long as you listen to his lectures, take plenty of notes and complete most of the extra credit assignments you'll do fine.

This class and teacher is awesome! He gets so into teaching that it makes you interested. I never liked history until I took this class! All you have to do is show up and pay attention. (He does not take attendence). The tests are not hard if you study (key words). Text is NOT required. Read the two books he assigns-tests on them. Bout it!

Leikin is a cool guy, I'd recommend this class. It was pretty easy in general, just one midterm and one final, and he gave out extra credit for turning in an outline of the chapter every week. A nice guy too, only don't pull out your phone or be on the internet during class or he'll drop you, kick you out, yell at you, etc.

He is great! Ive never liked history but being in his class really made me grow to love it! He gets really enthusiastic when teaching, which makes you interested. Go to class everyday, take notes, and pay attention and you will be fine. Read the (2) books he assigns but not the main history book- dont even buy that one.

He absolutely hates when students arrive late, and his quizzes are really random, in terms of what he will ask you. He seems to have an attitude problem, and is very disorganized. Keeping up with the readings and doing your work is not enough, he expects a great amount of effort from you.

Excellent teacher: well prepared lectures delivered articulately and with intensity. This teacher is still passionate about the subject and brings that to the class. Insists on attendance with pop quizzes and asks students to actually pay attention. An A is possible from lecture and 2 biographies, study guides are provided well in advance.

Leikin is one of the best profs I've had. I HATE history, but took 4 different classes with him just because he made me love the material and feel like it was important to learn. Read and participate and you'll do great! The people saying he yells/has an attitude are slackers. He only calls people out when they are being completely obnoxious.

Overall a good teacher. He's very passionate about the subject matter which makes him an engaging lecturer. Make sure you come to class on time because a good portion of your grade is determined by pop quizzes which happen in the first 2 minutes of class. I had him for U.S. History Since Reconstruction and did not use the textbook at all.

Intense lecturer, very clear and articulate. Loved most of his lectures. Pop quizzes make class mandatory but its an interesting topic regardless. Midterm and final are difficult but just use the internet and you'll never have to buy the almost $100 book. Easy class to pass whist actually learning a great deal of American History for your GE

Class is easy to pass! Make sure you take notes every lecture- he asks one small question for the quizzes that you can use your notes on. Read the novels, and quiz will be straightforward. Midterm & final take a lot of preparation (essays), but he gives super easy opinion extra credit that will bump you up AN ENTIRE GRADE!!!

The extra credit option is actually not easy, you have to attend almost every class and keep it up week after week. On a personal level he seemed a little obnoxious sometimes. Quizzes were structured poorly considering how much they were worth in the final grade, 1st quiz was just one question.

AVOID! The extra credit is hard it is a 3 page essay! There are 1 question open note pop quizzes and if you miss it your grade can drop a letter +he makes you read these BORING books & gives quizzes on them. Grade is written midterm, written final. Attend each class & you might get an A! If you're looking for an easy A AVOID!

He expects too much of you. Also, all he does is lecture throughout class. He doesn't even tell you the assignments or when a quiz is coming up, so hold on to your syllabus and go to class everyday. Extra credit is difficult. Harsh grader. Long boring books that you get quizzed on. Very hard to get an A in this class, I tried my best but I got an F

Leikin is a good professor but a hard grader. You literally have to show up for every class because he does random quizzes from time to time. His midterm and final are essays and he expects alot from you. AT the end i ended up with a D when i thought i would get a B or atleast a C.

He is a VERY hard grader. He expects you to read two book which are like at least 400 pages each. I do not recommend him. He is not helpful, never responds to emails and he is rude. Just talks for 3 straight hours. Tests are hard and you have random pop quizzes.

To pass you definitely need to go to class everyday, and take good notes. The pop quizzes are all open note, so if you do attend everyday they are pretty much a given, and they are massive help for studying for the two tests. It's a really interesting class though and Leikin is a really good lecturer, so would definitely recommend.

Great instructor! Lectures were interesting and quizzes were straightforward! Midterm and final were also pretty smooth. You just have to show up and read the textbook and study! I highly recommend him!

He knew the material well, but had a bad way of setting up his class. Lectures on for hours without putting much information up for students to see, so it is expected that you write down what you think is important based on the tone of his voice and whether he repeats what he says or not. I do not recommend him - very pompous guy too.

Very educated and passionate professor. I will admit, this was not my favorite class. Leikin isn't what you call a cup of tea, but he will place importance on the history of the United States. Overall, if you study and do exactly as he says, you'll get an A. I took 19 units the semester I took him and got an A. You can do it, too!

He was constantly going on tangents, and did not using any type of slides, iLearn wasn't used, all these things made it difficult to get everything down, he is a bit of a fast speaker. Grades focus heavily on the quizzes and the final. I got an A on the midterm and then an F on the final. Very odd grading method, would not recommend him.

Leiken's lectures are clear, engaging, and enlightening, and he's passionate about history. I see low scores here and feel bad. I remember once I was at the cafe in front of state and we sat together talking. He thanked me for being a good student. "You care" he said. He has to deal with many who don't, who are there only to meet an ed requirement.

Extra credit boosts grade up an extra 10%! I don't like history, but he makes it fun and is a great teacher! He puts emotion into the the topics he discusses and makes them interesting! I really enjoy all the examples he gives in class from him and his family living through the time periods he discusses. Really nice guy and has a sense of humor.

Very passionate professor. You can tell he really enjoys the material and his enthusiasm will pep you up even if labor history makes your eyes glaze over. Class mainly consists of 5 novels and you have to write book reviews and summaries. There is no midterm, and an in-class essay final. This class revolves heavily around the reading. NOT an easy A

I loved Leikin, his class was engaging and fun to go to. He was super enthusiastic about the subject and it made class easier. The textbook was not used at all but the two books that were required were quizzed on. He gave study guides for the mid term and final. Lectures were super easy to follow.

Okay at first his class might seem like a pain, reading is very important and I swear he curves his quizes but doesn't say anything about it. Just make sure you know everything in the chapters for the quizes and do well on one of the midterms and final. pretty chill A if you do all that.

Leikin is very knowledgeable about his subject. His reading work load is just ridiculous. He makes you purchase about 7 textbooks, each you will only focus on for a week, if that. He had us take a trip to Coit Tower through public transportation, had us pay for the fare and the entrance to the museum. Does not genuinely care about his students.

It certainly was an interesting class to take. The lectures are amazing to listen to, even though they're pretty long (be sure to bring a laptop if you're a slow writer). He also gives study guides 2 weeks before exams, so it gives you tons of time to prepare. Lastly, in order to pass, be sure to read the books and go to class.

He knows what he's talking about. You need to put in some effort. Only takes best of the 2 midterm grades. Just put in some effort, and you should be okay. I recommend going to the lectures. I went sometimes but read the book, I got an A.

Just go to every lecture if you dont want to buy the book, do the extra credit, read the novels, participate here and there, and dont disrespect him. Do all that and youll get an A

Have to read long, boring books and then have small quizzes on them. Grade is made up of 2 quizes, 2 midterms (lowest grade is dropped), and 1 hard final. Do not take this class if you don't like to read or can't read fast. Also, he never says you need to read the textbook but you won't do good on the test if you don't.

I wouldn't even recommend this class to an enemy. Lectures for an hour straight every time. No power point so good luck figuring out whats important. The class average for the first midterm was a failing grade. He is passionate about what he's teaching but its incredibly boring and hard to pay attention. No phones or talking allowed. Awful class.

Literally the worst teacher I have ever had. Lectures straight through and doesn't answer any questions. Our whole class is failing and he thinks it is our fault. His tests are confusing and difficult. I studied for a week straight and still failed!! DO NOT TAKE

Pretty sure my whole class is failing. Average grade on midterms was F/D. He is such a smart person and a good guy and knows so much about history, he has the potential to be a great teacher. No powerpoints just listening to him talk all class which is so ineffective and stressful. Tests are so irrelevant to study guides given. Would not recommend.

It's true, he is very passionate about the subject. Class consists of 2 readings with one quiz for each and 2 midterms and 1 finale. His class' average grade right now is a failing one, so he has decided to change the final up. If you're like me, no interest in history and taking it bc you have to, then take another class.

I loved going to class He made his lectures as interesting as possible (its history come on) and tried to engage students. It was mostly him just talking, which some people don't like, but i find powerpoint presentations to be distracting. There are two midterms and he takes the highest grade to count for one. Its not hard if you like history.

Steve is just mediocre. He doesn't require attendance so half the time less than half of this class is there. He has 2 10 question quizzes on two books, 2 mid-terms(only have to take one because he drops the lowest grade for one) and one final. He uses no powerpoint and just straight lectures at you for an hour, not very conducive for learning. I

He's passionate 'bout history but it's a hard class. He lectures for over an hour straight with no PPTs so it's hard to tell what is important or not, especially if you need visuals. 2 book quizzes, 2 midterms (lowest grade dropped), 1 written final. Most of my class is failing. It's a sad day when you hope to get a D in the class so you can pass.

I had Leiken for History 474. Personally, I loved the class. Yes, sometimes his teaching style is sometimes a little unorthodox, but overall the information and books he chooses for you to read help you learn so much more than a lot of other history classes. Would definitely recommend if you love history in general. Expect a lot of reading.

If you go to class, listen, and take notes you will do well. He is an entertaining and passionate teacher who gives you fair opportunities to do well. Read the books he gives (I had 2; he gave more than enough time to read them). He gives clear study guides for the tests. If you're lazy and a bad student you won't like him. Otherwise, he's great.

Mr Leikin is a very enthusiastic teacher who loves the subject. All you need to do is read the books to get A's on the quizzes. You actually have to review to do well on the midterm/final but the second midterm is optional so do well on the first! Lectures can be boring if you don't like the subject but he does well at keeping it interesting

I personally loved Leikin's enthusiasm and dedication to the very topic he teaches. He may sometimes go on rants during lectures, but he definitely adds suspense and interest to the class. The time this semester made it hard to stay awake sometimes but I would definitely take a class he teaches again! You'll need the assigned books for quizzes

This class is pretty straight forward. Quizzes are a big percent so just read books but the quizzes are really easy. He gives us a study guide and literally tells us what to study. The lectures are interesting and he really cares so just do the work and you will definitely get an A.

I am passing the class about to finish. The reading load is insane and the typing is 2 pages in 11 point font for each week or an essay based on reading the textbooks. I think any other teacher would have been easier. I also found the videos to be rather boring but the class material learned is fascinating and the first textbook teaches a lot.

I think Prof Leikin is really good at explaining the content of this class, and doesn't expect you to know that much about history. This class is solely based on tests/quizzes. The quizzes are about the reading (if you do it easy A). The exams are pretty easy too bc he gives you a study guide. Final is 2 essays. Overall, if you try you'll pass.

He is one of the best history professors I have ever had. I took Hist 121 as a requirement, and expected an easy A. My only lower division class, it should have been. It was my most challenging class. History is not my strength. The quizzes based on books were easy, READ. The mid term was hard (I got an 84%) and the final was easy (two essays).

This class is very structured on grading. Quizzes make up 50% of your grade and you are tested on the study guide questions he gives you. Do the study guide and read the books and you'll pass. Similar to the Quizzes, the midterms and finals are based off of the Study Guide. No power points, so RIP notes. Don't take this class, its dreadfully boring

I would not recommend taking professor Leikin's history class. There are no assignments other than exams and quizzes. For the exams, he will not tell you what he is looking for until he passes the exams back to students. When students reach out to him for help, he is unwilling to help. Leikin does not care about his students passing the class.

Professor Leikin has so much passion for history, too bad he doesn't realize this is a GE class and no one really cares about the subject. Quizzes are pretty easy as long as you read the books. I was at almost every class and did well on most of the quizzes, however the class is graded only on tests and quizzes, there is no extra credit or homework, Making it difficult to recover from 1 bad test. Also a tough grader considering I spent almost 4 hours studying for the final and got a 69 percent on it.

Professor Leikin is a fantastic professor! I never missed one of his classes and I was very sad when class was over. I love US History and his lectures are very passionate and interesting. There were a couple of books we had to read but it was worth it. I'm very thankful that I got to have Prof Leikin. I would take another class with him.

My favorite professor at San Francisco State. All of the people giving negative feedback weren't prepared for the quizzes and midterms. If you go to class and listen to his great lectures, you will get a good grade. He is a very good professor who truly cares about his students. Also very funny and an overall great guy. Fantastic history teacher. Knows his topics well, even brought in first hand anecdotes from his father's WWII letters. Makes history fun, a skill every history teacher should have. Try your best to keep up with the readings, go to class, ask him questions, introduce yourself. He is very willing to help if you reach out for it.

Professor Leikin is a really good super passionate professor for history. He has a funny sense of humor that lightens up the class. Be prepared to take notes just off him talking as his powerpoint is just pictures. Professor Leikin can be difficult to understand if you have trouble in long lectures. Extremely lecture heavy and your grade is entirely quiz and test scores. However, he definitely knows history very well and is knowledgeable in this field. Also, he's a funny guy! Would recommend to people that are into long lectures.

Angel among men. Very few assignments, just 5 reading quizzes, 2 midterms (worst grade dropped), and a final. This guy knows how to lecture. If you have a hard time with lectures, maybe don't take him. He's hilarious and asks before every class if anyone has any questions. I luv labor history so I loved this class. He cares deeply for the topic, and if u dont then u will spend many hours reading, listening to lectures, and watching movies that put u to sleep. Thats my main advice, if u read the material and pay attention tests are very manageable. Hours of him talking off top, bring coffee. Thankful 4 what i learned

Textbooks are ishi's brain and anne moody. The eric foner book is not needed unless you skip class, uses a sign in sheet for attendance. Class is boring but it's fairly simple to pass the class just by using lecture notes.

I liked his class. You do have to read a couple books aside from the textbook, and you're quized on that but he gives you some of the questions he /might/ ask. Even then he only asks you 1 question to respond to. His class is mainly lecture, so make sure you're taking notes!

Probably the only "bad" professor I have had at SFSU. His lectures are really really boring, not engaging at all, and most of all - pointless. I had a hard time staying awake in his class. The best thing about this class is the books he assigns to read (Anne Moody, Ishi's Brain). Quizzes are easy and in-class essays are okay.

Lots of books to read (4) per semester, but I understand because this is a history class. My problem is that you will literally have one week to read 300 so pages. That is not enough time for anyone to finish. Why not give us 2+ weeks to read an entire book? I just do not think class is fair for students.

Tbh this class was aight. Not too hard but definitely not a walk in the park either. I see myself earning a B in this class but who knows. Make sure you watch his lectures online and pay attention, it seems the slightest wrong answer on a quiz can get you in trouble. Also, he has a BS quiz policy. Miss one and none of them count!!!!!!!

Probably one of the most unhelpful professor youll ever meet especially if you take him currently during this pandemic. He will truly waste your time and wont grade you fairly. Ive emailed him for help and he responds far too late. If you really need to take this class good luck but its not worth it.

Honestly, this class was alright. As long as you keep up with the lectures you'll be fine. There is a quiz every week and he emails back a few days late. Lectures are boring, I get through them because I speed them up. The midterm wasn't so bad as long as you paid attention to the lecture, or you could just rewatch the videos.

You just have to put more effort into his class. Since his class was online without Zoom meetings, you have to pay attention even more and he gave weekly quizzes with a few questions that are really specific so pay attention in lectures and the readings he gives.

Lecture is useless. Steve will babble for 2 hours and none of the information will be on any essay. All the information will be on assigned books. Essay grading is pretty hard too as Steve is pretty picky with how you regurgitate the answer. But the worse thing about his class is the time assigned to read an entire book. It is an unrealistic time.
