Clear, commanding voice. One of the best professors Ive ever had. Extremely helpful clear and understandable
One of the best professors I've ever had! He is not easy though, so he'll make you work! But if you do, class is super interesting and an A is achievable. There is no textbook in class, so that's a bonus, everything you need is presented in lectures. Focus in class, do the problem sets and you'll do well.
Just about the greatest econ professor at UCSD. Incredibly helpful, legitimately cares about his students learning and is about as clear as can possibly be. Highly recommend!
Damn, I've only had two lectures so far, and I can say this guy is really good at explaining concepts. He uses a lot of analogies that really help in understanding the material. He is very handsome, too.
Professor Levkoff was awesome. I preferred when he lectured using boardwork rather than powerpoint, but either way he was extremely clear and helpful. Made econ fun and interesting :) Exams true to his problem sets and practice exams (obviously more difficult though). I recommend him especially if you haven't taken econ yet!
Very good at explaining things. He's a lot more clear than the textbook. I read like the first two chapters of the textbook and gave up and now I only use his lecture slides. His methods of solving problems are a lot simpler and clearer than the textbook's.
Forget reading the book - go to lecture and look through his slides and you'll be golden. Definite recommend for those who hate economics because your outlook on the subject will change after taking his class. Not only is he a great lecturer, he's also pretty good looking ;)
Levkoff was awesome. he lectured both from slides and just him writing and explaining, both were great. his slides are extremely helpful and clear, as well as his lectures in class. i always enjoyed going to class even if it was 3 hours long. he's also easy on the eyes ;)
This course is both enjoyable and useful. If you are econ major, I'm sure you can get a solid foundation from his class; if you are not, then you just take a course that can teach you how to rationally make choices. either way, even though the class was 3 hrs long, most of us made it and we learned a lot from this.
For a student with limited background in Corporate Finance, Levkoff helped make this subject more clear. Lectures were straight from the book, problem sets were difficult, but office hours were a great help. My only recommendation is to allow discussion on the homework assignments, but require individual submissions. Great professor!
Best lecturer I've ever had. Lecture slides are all animated, color coded, and online. Homework + solutions are also posted on TED. Never used the book. Tests are pretty tricky though. I got a B- because I did poorly on the final (two finals that day). His test questions always ask for detailed answers that explains all scenarios to get full points
Great, solid professor. One of the best at UCSD and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. Make sure you go to all classes, pay attention and study the problem sets and you're good to go!
Great class and very engaging professor. He speaks clearly and gives good examples to help understand the concepts. Highly recommend taking Econ 1 with him. Go to class and make sure you study the slides and problem sets before each exam and you'll get a good grade.
Levkoff is hands down my favorite prof at UCSD. Had him for Econ 1 and 100C and absolutely loved his teaching style, he is very clear and actually interacts with the class instead of speaking for the whole time.. as long as you go to class and do the problem sets you are solid. the book is def not necessary because he explains it well enough.
His class was never boring. He's quite an entertaining professor and if you ever go to his office hours, he's a pretty cool guy to talk to. He's also really good at teaching but his tests are hard only if you do not study enough.
Hands down the best Economics teacher I have had at UCSD. He makes you think about topics at a higher level and truly cares about the welfare of his students. He is the cream of the crop of UCSD professors. Highly recommended.
Levkoff is an awesome professor and the best Econ professor I have had at UCSD! He explains topics clearly and is extremely interactive and cracks jokes which are actually funny. He's a really genuine guy and cares about his student's. If you do problem sets, look over all his old exams and attend his office hours then you're going to do well.
I enjoyed going to Levkoff's class a lot! helpful professor and super generous curve
Very clear lecture, and Professor Levkoff makes it interesting and not painful to be in class. His lecture style helps note-taking a lot. Definitely guaranteed a B or above if you go to all lectures and do all problem sets. The Professor is pretty cute too ;)
Wonderful teacher, super friendly and he really cares about students. I'd definitely recommend him for any Econ class. Tests reflect material and homework/pass exams, no complain. And did I mention he's HOT?
He's young (rare for the econ dept where most profs are like my grandpa's age) and I think younger profs are much better at engaging us than, say, profs like Machina who may be geniuses but haven't been students since the Carter era. Levkoff teaches like he was in the classroom himself a couple years ago, and it really helps. If you can, take him!
One of the best/hottest professor I've ever had. Clear lectures, helpful problem sets. If you go to classes and do all the problem sets, you will do fine in his class. The most important thing is, hes HOT, like, yeah, HOT.
Lectures are a mixture between chalkboard and Powerpoints. His powerpoint lectures tend to be harder to follow. His problem sets reflect his exams. Math wise, make sure to know concepts like random variables, expected values, var/covar, probability, Baye's Rule, integration by parts, limits, and basic multivariate calculus(partial derivatives).
Best Professor at UCSD. Took him for 100c and 171. Most helpful professor you will find. I actually enjoyed going to class and these were 3 hour classes. His teaching style is very engaging and interactive. Tests were difficult but very fair. No real reason to read textbook if you go to lectures. If you want an A you must attend lecture and study!
Course is difficult. Levkoff has VERY high expectations, but it's worth the squeeze. I had him for a micro course in the past and was pretty shocked at how knowledgeable he is about macro / finance topics. This guy CLEARLY explained the relationship between quantitative easing, the yield curve, and the stock market in a 15min class segment...
An EXCELLENT professor. I took him for both 100C and 110B, and I plan to take as many classes from him as possible. His lectures are both informative and entertaining, and he grounds abstract concepts using real-world examples. Tests are HARD but if you go to lecture you'll be fine. Make sure you know your stuff, watch out for the T/F questions!
Great lecturer. If you can solve the problem sets you pretty much guarantee yourself an A.
Had Levkoff for both 100C and 110B. Knows his stuff very thoroughly and I would always recommend him as a professor. He actually cares about his students to understand the material. His exams and grade distributions are fair and you'll fail if you do not put in effort. The courses he taught are not easy but I very much enjoyed his lectures. TY STEVE
Levkoff's class is hard. There's no denying it. However, each class is like a beautifully crafted masterpiece of teaching. Even though the material is hard, he takes nothing for granted, and Levkoff will bring you to that level. He is an extremely gifted lecturer and is very helpful. Wish I could take more classes with him.
Knows his stuff. Enthusiastic and cares about your learning. Tests more intuitive than mathematical. Curve too generous if you ask me.
tests reflective of problem sets and lectures fair tests. it definitely helps going to class. since it was summer the lecture was the full 3 hours and a lot of material but prof was very enthusiastic about material and explained concepts well. for some lectures he used slides which make material easier to understand. definitely recommend at ucsd
He has a great sense of humor about the class. If you want the ball rolling in class just shout out answers. That being said it means you can slow down the class by not saying anything at all and waiting for some kindred spirit to take the plunge. Pretty straightforward class
I don't think he is a qualified professor at all. Mean 50 and standard deviation 22. That's why he curve generously. But personally speaking the ridiculously high variance indicates he didn't concern the student performance at all! It seemed like he successfully predicted what questions could make ppl get 95 and what could make ppl get 5 out of 100
Professor Levkoff is a really great lecturer. His way of teaching makes it very easy to absorb the materials. His tests aren't easy but it's not too difficult. If you pay attention and do the problem sets, then you can definitely get a good grade. Furthermore, he gives very generous curves. So he is definitely a professor you'd want to have.
I took him for both 100C and 110A this quarter and he is an awesome professor for 100C but could be a little better at 110A. I think that since this was his first quarter teaching 110A it was hard to study since there wasn't really old exams to go off of. Overall, he is a really clear professor, no tricks. Come to class and you will do well.
He was really clear in lecture. Loved him, hottie too -c.l.
Great professor. Lectures are very clear and interesting. Not an easy course but still do-able, just requires commitment. For midterms, study the lecture notes and review problems and you should be fine (Don't just do the practice problems, make sure you understand them). Highly suggest attending every lecture
I took levkoff for 100C in the summer and he was great. However for 110A his teaching seemed really choppy and it made understanding the curriculum harder.
I've taken almost every ECON professor at UCSD and Levkoff was in my top 2. He is a genuinely good lecturer, who's enthusiasm for the course shines through. He knows the material extremely well. I actually learned from going to lecture, how refreshing. IMO him and Lagakos are the 2 best professors in the department.
The tests for his class are really hard, but the curve is very generous. He tries to incorporate student interaction which is rare for most econ classes so lectures aren't too horrible to sit through. He's a great lecturer so try to go to class! Econtutor isn't that vital for this class.
He's really not a very good professor. He was behind in teaching the material so he rushed through a lot of the material at the end and even failed to cover some of the topics. This course is the first of the Econometrics series, so I hope that he didn't skip anything incredibly important for the next class.
Great professor. The test are almost related to the homework. Do it, and get it. Pass the class is easy. Answer one of the four test questions correctly you probably pass the class.
I took this class during summer session, so the class being only 5 weeks long made it a bit difficult. However, Professor Levkoff instantly became one my my favorite professors at UCSD with his clear and concise lecture style. 3 hour lectures were not a burden with Levkoff!
Professor Levkoff's 100C class was a really interesting class. I was mostly interested in the game theory aspect of the course, which Levkoff taught very well. He was also super helpful in office hours!
he is awesome, and he is really smart in class. his exams are aweful! be care if you are international student, this is a nice chance for you to improve youself.
While he's a good professor he rushed through material routinely leaving students struggling with harder concepts. The curve is generous but shouldn't need to be if he took an extra day on harder concepts. I wouldn't take him again.
This professor had a lot of pointless slides. He went through the topics in the beginning too slow so he was really rushing to get through material at the end. One of the analysis questions on the final was on a concept he introduced during the last 30mins of his last lecture. Wish he was a better professor.
Seems like the only bad evaluations were given by students that either didn't know what course they were taking (Levkoff doesn't teach Econometrics... this was the first part of the MACRO sequence) or don't understand how ranking students by grades works (ie: the variance issue). Levkoff went out of his way to create supplemental materials for us.
If you can do the problem set, you will be ready for the exam. Keep in mind that MT and problem set are meant to be hard, which motivated me to study very hard for the final. I got an A for the course; not an easy A, but learned a lot from the class. Understand the big picture of the course and do the problem, you should be fine. TY Prof. Levkoff.
Prof Levkoff know the subject very very well and he is very smart. Just 2 small suggestions for him. First, he was not able to keep up with the syllabus (less thing to study for final ). Second, he may wants to repeat or highlight some important concepts during lecture. Something show up in the ppt for 1 slide maybe 30% of your exam.
A very good professor. So good, that sometimes you feel all giddy after lectures because he explains everything so well. And then your heart sinks because when you sit down for exams they are damned hard. The math is easy, but the concepts aren't, and he really tests your understanding in the most straightforward way. Derive. Derive. Derive.
Great professor. Great class. Easy to get a good grade.
It is defintely not an easy class. But you will get the grade you earn :) The professor has very useful slides and problem sets that help to understsand the concepts.
He is a great guy who cares about his students but he's a terrible teacher. The exams are based on math that was never covered in class. His ppt slides are all about economic concepts, but then midterm day it's all math he NEVER went through. Review sessions would had been helpful is T.A.'s actually knew what they were doing. Go to his office hrs.
I would have never enrolled in this class if I know what I am feeling now.
Amazing professor, tough tests, large curve. Best econ prof at UCSD hands down.
Perfect class. Entertaining and instructive. Professor Levkoff provides relevant examples and holds the interest of the class. The tests aren't extremely hard, but they are not ridiculously easy either. They reflect the course material well. Plus, the dude's pretty goodlooking. 1010 Would highly recommend this class and Professor Levkoff.
He's really nice, helpful and quite funny at times. He doesn't teach with powerpoints often but he will upload supplemental materials and problem sets. If you don't have prior knowledge and you skip class, content might be harder to grasp but the tests are still manageable. Sometimes he also offers extra points for attendance.
Professor Steven Levkoff has made Economics 2, a section of the AP Micro Macro which shouldn't have to be taken again, into an amazing course to take for a quarter. Although, there isn't that much course material to cover, he still managed to keep me interested for the entirety of the course. Tests are fair but graded strictly.
His tests are super hard and not reflective of what we learned in class. Avoid him if you can. He's not worth taking for Econ 2. It was supposed to be an easy lower div class but he made much harder than what it was supposed to be.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. His tests are confusing and he has so many last minute things he did not cover completely on his test. Moreover, his wording on the test is hard to understand. I regret taking his class. Do not ever take this guy.
He is a good lecturer. However, his tests are much harder than what an Econ 2 class should be. Also, while the problem sets and homework sets are helpful, his tests are much harder and not reflective of the material of the covered in the problem sets. Avoid him if you can. He is not an easy A.
he wasn't that bad. the final exam was really tough, but fair. he makes you work for it, so if you don't want to work too hard on a lower div course, i'd avoid him. otherwise, great lectures, very entertaining.
Failed 1st midterm bc didn't know how he graded, he looks for specific steps you take and if you skip work, even if your answer is correct, you get marked off. After the first midterm, i studied the rubric and things he underlines in his practice problems, A+ on 2nd midterm and final. Study what he looks for and its easy class
DONT TAKE!
Fantastic lecturer. His exams are pretty difficult, but they're curved. If you're complaining about failing an exam, it's not because Levkoff did a bad job; it's probably because you didn't conceptually understand the material well enough to apply those principles to more difficult problems.
Attend all lectures, understand how to do the problem sets and you'll get above an A or B. Great professor and highly recommend taking his class
quantitative awesome approach
Quantitative approach
Levkoff is super cool. Tough subject but his instruction is very good. The tests are very difficult. I mastered the problem sets and exam practice but the exam questions had slight variations making it difficult for the brain muscle memory frm repetition to kick in. He is super responsive, fair and I would totally take him again. Class mvs fast.
Awesome professor! Fun class and great teaching style
As an econ major graduating I am glad that I was able to take his 100c class to end my time at UCSD. Simply put, the material is tough but he will keep your attention and focus on point with his dynamic and stimulating lectures. He really makes the material as intuitive as possible. Very few profs. make the infamously dismal science less so.
good lecturer, goes really in depth. Make sure you understand whats going on conceptually before you try to just memorize formulas.
TA's are very strict at grading!!!! Ask for re-grades. Has a very specific taste in correct answers look at practice problems and old exams. Good professor.
I love his lecture, but the exam is hard...
I love his lecture, but the exam is hard... There is not much homework!
Inspirational lecturer! My thirst for Economics is temporarily fulfilled every quarter I took his class. If you are eager to learn economics, take his class regardless of his TOUGH but DOABLE tests. my Econ GPA is 3.8 though
I took his class in summer session and it only have one midterm and one final. You can ace the class if you get a solid A on final. That's fairly good even though the final is usually harder than the midterm. He has great understanding about the material and can convey it to students in a clear and well-organized way. I like his lectures.
His tests are really really hard
Great teacher! Very clear and organized. I like that he uses both the board and power point during lectures. Summer session wasn't too fast either.
Hands down the best professor I have ever had at UCSD. Explains things very clearly and can answer any question off the top of his head. If anything is confusing in class, then he would happily and even more clearly explain the problem. Always willing to help you out!
GREAT TEACHER AT UCSD.
Really good teacher. Very clear with the content. Fair tests.
One of the best professors at UCSD. Difficult exams but worth taking!
lecture is clear, but his test the so harsh. 43 would have a A
He's an amazing professor and you'll definitely learn a lot in his class. However, his tests are really tough and difficult. If you're looking for an easy A, I would avoid him. However, if you want to become enlightened and learn a lot, then he's a must.
He's a young and passionate professor. However, his exam is too hard. but it does have a large curve.
I got a D on my 1st midterm because I slacked off and then got scared so I actually started listening to his lectures in class and studied the problem sets then the past exams (very helpful!), and got an A on the 2nd one. He's very clear and makes lectures interesting. I actually learned a lot from his class. Definitely my favorite professor!
I like the way Professor Levkoff teaches and how he makes good use of mob lab in class!! He cares a lot about his students! Very nice ! Good professor !
I'm really glad I took Steve's class. He's an awesome lecturer and really tries to make class interesting. Be prepared to work because by no means was it an easy class. He definitely knows his stuff. Great guy too. Go to his office hours!!! I wish I went more often
MY ECON GOD.
Just take his class, and you will know the definitions of a good professor.
This professor is the best, his lecture is interesting, and his tests are easy, you will expect to get an easy A if you work hard like me. I recommend to take two of his classes together, and you will learn a lot of life.
I was so lucky that the problem set solutions are available and they are super clear and logical. I stuck to study those solutions right before each test so I got a decent grade. Prof Levkoff is just as clear in his lectures. Overall he is a super efficient professor, his delivery style is very enchanting too.
Steve is my all time favorite professor at UCSD. I took both 100C and 110A with him and got A's in both. He is super cool and makes lectures interesting and clear. He makes all his old exams available and if you do every question and understand the answers, you will get an easy A. Overall love this guy, thanks Steve!
Favorite ECON professor in UCSD so far. Interesting lecture. Exams are not easy but fair. Go to every lecture, you will passsssssss.
Gives really good lectures. Go through the homework and past exams to study. Has a big curve so don't worry too much if you do bad on the tests. Don't have to show up to lecture if you prepare off the homework and past exams.
What's really awesome about him is that he truly demonstrates the materials very well and clearly, makes everything easy to understand. Pay attention to the examples he gives during lecture because those are important applications of the concepts that may show up on the test. His slide and last-minute OHs are very helpful, too. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN.
Can not fail if you take the tests, he grades on a curve and the bottom 5% gets D's
Class wasn't as bad as the other ones in the 100 series - Levkoff made it pretty entertaining. Several students were upset about another student that was cheating, but Levkoff PROMISED that he would catch the cheater. In fact, he actually used game theory to catch the person cheating during the final exam - DON'T CHEAT! HE WILL CATCH YOU!!!
Pros: Really good lecturer and explains things pretty clearly Cons: - Majority of his lecture is on the board so if you miss something (even if you're at the lecture), it'll be hard to review and go over it again - Grades are totally dependent on midterms and final... which are pretty tough Still would recommend.
Class graded by two midterms and a final. Writes a lot on the board, so even though attendance isn't taken, you want to go to lecture. You COULD learn out of the book, but Levkoff explains things super clearly; take advantage of that. His lectures are engaging and he makes the concepts easy to understand.
I learned the most I've ever learned in any Econ course in his class. He explained things graphically, mathematically, and intuitively to ensure all students could understand no matter their preferred learning method. He hates cheating and got many students in trouble for it. My favorite professor and I would highly recommend him.
Probably the only professor whose lectures I attended for economics. He's captivating and he explains the material better than anyone else I've taken thus far. Some people find his tests difficult, but he explains the concepts so well that you'll understand everything you need to know. Utilize his test banks.
Probably the only professor whose lectures I attended for economics. He's Some people find his tests difficult, but he explains the concepts so well that you'll understand everything you need to know. Utilize his test banks.
Really good professor who is passionate about the material and really wants you to succeed. It is a challenge course but if you put in the work mastering the problem sets and old exams you'll do just fine. If you take all of the midterms and score an A on the final he will give you an A in the class.
His lectures are amazing. He shows sincere care for the learning of the students and explains things in a way that helps completely understand what it is youre learning and how to apply it. He also provides all of his past exams which gives you a great deal of practice towards the concepts he feels will be relevant to the test
Best professor
good professor. this is not an easy class by any means but if you work hard and go to lectures, you should be fine. you have 2 chances to get a A. one by normal grading, and one for getting A on final exam. Definitely go to lectures or you will not pass with good grade.
He's the man.
I've literally never reviewed anyone on here but Prof Levkoff is great. Favorite professor at UCSD. His tests are hard but very reflective of the material he teaches and the curve is really generous. Never went to office hours or discussion but got an A in the class. You really learn a lot of cool things that you can tell your friends.
he is definitely not the one who can teach econ110b well. he cannot explain definition clearly and always talking about something irrelevant. do not take his class for econ 110b!!!!!!exam so hard and tough graded. i need to find other professor's ppt to review his class.
Professor Levkoff was a joy of a professor to have. His lectures were interesting, and I really appreciated how he took particular care to teach us the intuitive reasoning behind everything. He's also a fun professor to take as he's very animated and personable in class. He was also very helpful during office hours!
Amazing Professor! Clearly well-versed and helps students nail down any and all Econ concepts that he teaches. His class may be a bit tedious (especially in the summer) but he was awesome when approached by students (both in class and during office hours). He was an inspiring teacher, other teachers should take a page out of his book (in teaching)
Hard to understand what he says during the lecture. The test are hard. First part of question, no matter TRUE or False, you have to explain why. It doesn't make sense.
The most clear and straightforward professor I've ever had. Lecturers are enjoyable and note-friendly. Tests are very challenging, but they are wholesome and have partial credit. Math is not based on your numbers as much as what you're attempting to do. Also has a wonderful curve.
Responds to e-mails with questions about the class almost instantly. Also I accidentally missed the final, but Levkoff was willing to allow me to make-up the final, even though his syllabus stated all missed exams would be a zero.
I'm not actually in his class, but I sat in one night with one of my sorority sisters, and he is a pretty interesting professor. He is funny and engaged, if the class didn't have a waitlist I would have enrolled. Also, he's VERY HOT....10/10
He's one of the best lecturers I've had and easily the best Econ professor I've taken. That being said, his tests literally destroyed me. He's pretty straightforward and explains concepts really well during lecture but his final was insanely hard. He does curve generously, but not enough :( But if you get an A on the final you get an A in the class
The class material should be easy in a mathematical sense. However, the midterm start late and you are force to end early. TAs and grader does not respect the midterm rubric give you 0 if you get the answer wrong. No partial credit. If you regrade you get lower score because you will be regraded by all of your corrrect answer again.
Good lecturer but his hw for econ 4 is not very beneficial.
He is an awosome professor, young, passionate and like chanllenges. Kind of person that will inspire you naturally.
The class was a harder course than those that I usually take. The last 3 weeks were dense with material that was tricky. The professor joked around but the exams were hard and were barely scaled.
Great and knowledgeable prof. You need to attend every lecture and sit in the front rows because he makes material more sense than the power point. I would definitely take him again
Great lecturer. Always very organized. Interesting material, and just overall a very knowledgeable and funny guy. 3 exams, all MC. Way more theory heavy than I thought. Class is curved, top 25% gets an A. Median score for exams were around 75%. No quiz, no HW. Study the slides, disregard the problem sets. Also disregard the study sessions.
VERY GREAT AND HUMOROUS PROFESSOR... LOVE THIS CLASS....
Very good professor!! I recommend to attend lectures because there is attendance check once a while! The time is annoying because it is from 6:30 to 7:50 but going to lecture is very helpful!
Steve is a very good instructor for ECON4/MGT4 course. He is so inspirational for his students. Attending his lectures does matter for two reason: 1)He provides better understanding of the class concepts. 2) Moblab activities in class that worth 10% of your overall grade. 2midterms: 1st weighs 25%, the 2nd weighs 30%, and a final weighs 35%, are MC
Levkoff Is by far the best teacher I've had at UCSD in my four years. He lectures very clearly and is super receptive to student questions. Exams are pretty representative of problem sets and what he goes over in class, but he doesn't post slides or much content so you have to attend lecture.
I was wrong about Levkoff. I thought he wasn't clear, but if you truly listen through lectures, everything makes sense for the most part. He tries his best to make dry material more funny, and he is someone that you can tell is actually putting in effort. He used to be a CFO of a company, so he definitely knows his stuff. He's a great guy.
The combination of his condescending demeanor and his rudeness when answering questions made this class a bad experience. Furthermore, he fell way behind, had to cram most of 100c into 3 weeks, and assigned outside-class lectures to be tested on. He loves to test on info he failed to teach, so if you like surprises on exams be sure to take him.
Since he spent a lot of time on materials relevant to 120B, he was behind the schedule for both midterms and final exam. On both 2nd midterm and final, he put questions which he definitely didnt teach them. I dont know how he does normally, but this quarter he was very inefficient, and I highly do not recommend him.
Questions on tests were confusing. He intentionally tries to word test questions abstractly, so students have struggle with questions. A class with this much of material is hard enough, so there is no need to be more confusing.
Levkoff is a really good lecturer. He is really good at explaining the material and provides all the resources you need to succeed in the class.
He is very smart, Is great at teaching but his attitude sks. Is arrogant, not helpful out of class room, I rather skip him next time.
Tests are similar to practice, but too many conceptual questions for which I lost all my points. Other parts are quite easy.
Exams and the course is pretty straighforward, just keep in mind there are clicker-type questions during lecture
I took levkoff for Financial Accounting, which is dry material at best but Prof. Levkoff made every lecture hilarious and engaging. His exams were representative of what had been covered in class and his grading criteria was straightfoward. I would highly recommend taking a class with him!
the worst Econ Professor I never seen before, really bad attitude to students in office hour and during the class when asking him questions. Avoid him
Not a hard class, but he made this class harder and being a nightmare, worst attitude to studs
Great professor. He gives great lectures and really keeps the classroom greatly energized. He posts old midterms/finals, which is a great study tool. He posts lecture slides on ted which is also great. Understand the material on the lecture slides, study the practice tests, and you'll do great.
He likes to assign hours long video for students to watch. Obviously, he couldn't finish teaching materials on time. So he let us watch hours long video and teach ourselves. He mentions that it's a fair game to test stuffs in the video in detail. He's taking students' time to fix his own fault of not able to go through those materials in class.
Fair Tests, not easy class, put efforts to get good grades.
Levkoff is by far my favorite Econ professor. He's hilarious and great at introducing students Econ concepts. Tests look tricky but they are actually not if you put in the work on practicing his past exams. 10/10 would recommend.
Took a dull and boring subject and made it bearable. His Econ 4/MGT 4 class consisted of pop quizzes and multiple choice exams. He explains content really well and tried to liven things up by making the occasional bad joke. Truly he is a caring professor and is really clear. I recommend him highly.
Dr.L was a great professor. Exams are difficult, but if you show up to class and pay attention, and put in the effort, it is not bad. Attendance is not mandatory, but for every day you go to class, you get a bonus point added to your first midterm score, and an additional point if you get the mob lab question correct. Highly recommend Dr.L.
Midterm 1 was super easy, Midterm 2 a lot more difficult as expected. Lecture slides are uploaded online, he reads off the slides during lecture and occasionally works out the problems on the board. Exams follow the format of the practice exams he uploads beforehand. Fair lecturer, class progressively gets harder.
His test is extremely hard and it is quite different than what he posted on tritoned. His lectures are slides reading. Strongly do not recommend.
This dude is a frickin legend. His lectures are always really funny and engages the students. As a "true believer of freedom", this class is graded 100% off 3 exams, so there's not a single assignment you have to hand in. This saved me a lot of time to put into other classes. However, he always gives good resources to practice with online.
He is a great professor, but the homework's can be hard. If you have chegg you'll be fine. Tests are a little tricky but he puts a huge curve on them. This last semester on our midterm, a 32/40 was an A! Anyways, I highly recommend him for an easy A, while still learning a good amount of info about the subject.
Esay A+. Go to the lectures and discussion sessions, then you can make it.
His lectures are amazing, especially since the material is dry. He provides screencasts, powerpoints, etc. He grades based on engagement of the material rather than on high-stake examinations due to the threat of the pandemic. Quizzes can have some tricks but nothing impossible and you can drop two quizzes. Overall, I would highly recommend him!
Very clear lecturer+organized class. Kinda overcomplicates micro but still understandable. Weekly quizzes instead of midterms/finals bc its online. The quizzes wording can be confusing so its easy to lose points so watch out for them. He drops your 2 lowest scores and curves the overall class. He takes class feedback well and adjusts accordingly
Overall, he's a great lecturer and is able to explain complex microeconomics subjects as simple as possible. On your part, you HAVE to do the problem sets and lecture review problems to understand the algebra of the concepts. Also, make sure to understand the slides inside-out because the weekly quizzes are trickier than you think.
I took the online class so it was recorded if you missed class. You can't skip the classes or you won't pass. Weekly quizzes (you can drop lowest 2) plus weekend assignments due on Sundays at the last 3-4 weeks of class are all math and are 75% more difficult than prior classes. Lots of TA help if you need it. This teacher is solid and decent.
He gives many real-life examples while explaining concepts. He can definitely help you better engage in class cuz It is never boring. But he always gives questions that are not mentioned in class and the lecture is fast! BE aware of his tricky and difficult tests(quizzes and review problems).
Levkoff is a gem bro. He's always prepared for class, and personally, I think he goes very very slowly to maximise comprehension. He's been teaching the class for a while, so he's very clear about what actions should be taken to guarantee your success in ECON 1. The quizzes are killer sometimes, but if you know the slides well you should be fine.
Good professor and teaches well. His teaching style involves showing lots of graphs and calculations in order to prove concepts, which helps me understand what he is teaching. Some of the quizzes were difficult because of tricky questions. Like for some of the questions I didn't really understand what answer he was looking for. Overall solid choice
I am so glad I chose Dr. Levkoff for my first (many more to come) Econ classes in UCSD. His lectures are clear and concise, you just have to put in a little effort than usual because the weekly assignments are somehow heavily conceptual but the weekly 10-item quizzes (in lieu of the midterms and finals) are much easier than the assignments.
Prof Levkoff is a very solid professor, and he was able to make a super boring class like financial accounting interesting! He knows the material from the bottom of his heart and makes very smart jokes. This class was super manageable; definitely will take courses from him again when he starts teaching upper division again!
Graduated about a year back, but my last class I took for Econ was honestly the most horrifying one. Levkoff was unable to explain the theories proper, and none of the lectures guided you through the exams. I believe in teaching and allowing students to learn, not terrifying students by letting them know that 30% is a C grade.
Professor Levkoff was very organized in his teaching style and was a fair grader. His quizzes were pretty tricky sometimes, but he gives us enough resources in order to be successful on them. He always kept his lectures engaging and interesting and gave very clear explanations for concepts.
Very clear and concise. His lectures were very understandable but he tend to move quite fast.
Amazing and explains concepts well. Also a nice sense of humor
Professor Levkoff was my favorite Econ professor at UCSD. He made lectures so interesting and was amazing at teaching. His tests are definitely not for the faint of heart, but despite the difficulty of the exams he does have a pretty generous curve. He was also very helpful in office hours. 1 of my fav classes I took w/ him was econ 2, 100% recco
He explains concepts very clearly and his lectures are attractive. His grading is not harsh. Recommended!
Professor Levkoff is great overall. He utilized a weekly 10-question quiz format, with difficulties varying by week but generally being pretty fair. The grade in the class mostly depends on the quizzes and weekly homework assignments, so it is not hard to keep a good grade. Lectures are important and very useful, especially with helpful examples.
not for me. the course itself is already hard, but he makes it 10 times HARDER.
Be ready to go to sleep when you enter one of his classes. He gives examples for one of the many things that he will cover - and never things that will actually be showing up on tests. Spend your time on working through problems on your own instead of letting him show you, and you will learn more! Honestly, don't bother attending his classes.
One of my favorite econs professors. He has quizzes every week, but they are super fair and as long as you go to lecture they should be easy with minimal effort. His lectures are also super interesting and engaging, and he like to includes real-world examples to make it easier to understand. Overall, an amazing Professor.
HARDEST CLASS I'VE EVER DONE. NOPE.
One of those professors where the examples gone over during lectures do not suffice for the quizzes/exams. Explanations are sometimes unnecessarily complicated and often confuses students more than the content should. Most importantly, does not spend enough time on important concepts while expecting you to develop more understanding during quizzes.
Ability to explain concepts are mediocre at best and the assignments/quizzes are not very representative of lecture contents. Very confusing flow of lecture and lots of trick questions are given out. You can try to respectfully make a case, but there's no chance it will get accepted. Although your explanation may be true, he'll insist his method.
NOT an easy A. Lectures are amazing and useful. Quizzes are open-book but they're very tricky.
Prof. Levkoff is for sure a decent choice. 100 series can be hard. I took 100A in advance just to take his 100B. Glad that it paid off. Lecture slides are so informative and organized that make him sometimes like a slide-reader XD. Build on concepts clearly. Weekly quizzes can be hard and sometimes have little wording problem. Take him if you can.
I've learned more in this class than I ever have in any other class. Levkoff is a great professor but my only gripe with the class is that the questions on the quiz are different from the material talked about in class. You'll end up practicing and working on questions you will never be tested on while seeing questions you've never seen on quizzes.
Very kind & good at explaining. The tests are based on his lectures, so make sure you go to those.
My favourite professor from UCSD, really miss his course after I graduated.
I like his style of teaching. He goes slow, very efficient and makes sure everyone understands everything. Quizzes can be a bit tricky, but if you show up and try you should be a good grade.
He can explain lectures clearly, however, if you want to get a decent grade, you have be aware of the tricky questions on quizzes!
The lack of clarity of the quizzes was so frustrating. I also disliked the trick questions he used: I don't want for my professors to trick me, I want for them to be on my side with my education. I did very much like his lectures. I also feel like you could ask him any econ or finance question and he would know it.
worse class I ever took at UCSD, it is no matter that this class is hard, what matter is the quiz and hw are crazy hard and not organized well as related to each other. definitely avoid it if possible.
Great lecturer, his hw and quizzes were manageable if you love math. Sometimes the wording is unclear or tricky on the quiz but it won't affect you getting an A in his class. The thing I dislike is the fact he would only award A+ to people with 100% cumulative average which is "impossible" with the unclear multiple-multiple choices on the quiz.
I'd never taken an accounting class before but he broke down the basics and quickly built from there. The lecture notes and slides are imperative to following the class. Exams are based off slides. Interesting class and critical information to learn as business major.
overall a pretty cool & forgiving prof, always avail for office hours & questions after class. grades are dependent on biweekly quizzes, review problems, a midterm, and a final (midterm and final have heavy weight). discussions are not mandatory but were pretty helpful for learning class material. really good prof for an intro class.
Your grade is based on two main grades, a 40% midterm and a 50% final.
Overall solid, cool dude. As a prof, he doesn't teach the concepts the best in my opinion. 40% midterm 50% final. 5% for five quizzes. 5% for hw probs w unlimited tries. Kinda dumb that he weights the midterm and final so heavily, bc if you flunk it like it did its bad, but there was a huge curve because everyone else flunked it. decent class.
Best ECON professor, the class I took was actually 173B but wasn't an option. Make sure you go to his lectures and understand everything, so you won't even need to read any of the materials. His lectures are very dense, and you could learn a ton. Tests were easier than the practices he gave but can be tricky, make sure you go to his office hours.
Clear, concise lectures. Always available to talk, is a pretty cool guy. Your grade is essentially your midterm (40%) and final (50%), so be prepared. Homework is (10%) and consists of biweekly quizzes. Discussion section attendance is not required. Textbook is available for purchase, but not required.
Grading is insane with 45% midterm and 45% final, but everyone doesn't do great so the curve at the end of the course is good (80+ is an A). Lectures are often difficult to follow and not very coherently/logically paced. But, he gives you all the tools to succeed, its just that you need to review on your own to do well.
He is a good professor when providing the knowledge for the class. If you are not a natural with financial accounting, you will need to rewatch the lecture, go through the textbook, and go through every practice problem heavily to understand. I wish the midterm and final had more questions similar to practice problems in the quizzes and LRPs.
This class is ridiculously overcomplicated and overly difficult for an INTRO class. The midterm and final account for most of your grade (45%), but I will say the curves are pretty big. The midterm and especially the final did NOT reflect concepts on the assignments he told us to study the most like???? Skip this class if u can fr save yourself
Fall 2022. Very chill professor. He wore flip-flops the first day of class. Very straightforward in explaining the lecture material. Exams are very reflective of the lecture material. I think the lecture itself is relatively challenging and need time to understand. Make sure not to get left behind.
Personally found his lectures interesting and the tangents he would go on were related to macro in the real world. The course is based off two midterms and the final, but the curve is quite generous. There is a textbook that is just supplemental, it is not necessary. He explained things well and would answer peoples questions clearly.
Just study from his problem set and lecture slides. Make sure you understand everything and you will get an A.
For Econ4: pretty tough concepts in the class not gonna lie. Attendance not taken and lectures posted online. Tests on the tougher side. Great lecturer, funny at times, good dude. Also, he wants you to pass. He really does. The curves are HELPFUL. I got a C, but like honestly I didn't deserve it. Take this dude.
45% midterm 45% final. Hw 5% Quizzes 5% Extra credit 5%. Midterms and final are fair. There are not many questions so make sure you know everything. The curve was very nice. Final only has 2 hours, only 10 questions, not cumulative. Overall it's not a difficult class.
This class was hard but really good professer he curves your grade ,you dont have homework ,you need to study for the midterm and test they were hard
Few assignments, discussions not mandatory but could be helpful. Professor is clear in whats needed to have have a good grade in this class. Did good on one midterm, lowkey bombed the final but still mahaged to get a B- because of the curve. Really nice guy, would take this professor again but the material was hard.
Professor Levkoff is a great guy and very knowledgeable. He does his best to get your attention during lectures and goes through a lot of example problems to understand concepts. While the class is very difficult and the exams are weighted heavily, he gives a VERY generous curve that allows for students to still pass the class and do well.
AWFUL!!! While Levkoff does seem to be very intelligent, he'll only say things once, and there is so much content covered VERY quickly. None of the slide decks on Canvas match the lecture slides??? If you don't enjoy teaching yourself, choose a different course. And if it says anything, the mean grade on the midterm was 50/100.
Funny guy but super hard class. But I ran the streets since I was young, (streets killed me)
This class was so difficult as much as I studied my efforts never showed that. He claims we should know this math because in his words "we got into UCSD" so it is expected that we know this which felt discouraging. I sent an email on week 5 regarding an emergency that I had and never received an email back which to me was inconsiderate.
Honestly, he approaches the course logically, so missing a lecture or concept requires you catching up to speed. However, once you get the hang of it; his class difficulty isn't too hard. His tests seem fairly hard (looking from the class average). He does cover a lot of material on every lecture, so you need to make sure you're always attentive.
Avoid him.
dr. levkoff is a great teacher but his midterms were tricky and a bit difficult. i performed way worse than I wanted in this course but got away with a B- due to a curve. our final's avg was 58/100 so you can go figure but the concepts are relatively simple but hard to grasp in such a short amount of time. honestly wish i could redo this class
Really tough class. Detailed lectures, he's really willing to go over things, I'd feel like I understood--but then I'd struggle on the homework. I wish there was more mathematical examples in class, maybe going to discussion would help. Homework every other Sunday, quiz the Monday after, HARD final. 5% extra credit for simple before-class quizzes.
Lectures were thorough and he did a great job of explaining concepts! He made sure to answer questions in class and emphasize important topics. Tests were weighted VERY heavily (90% of your grade) but they were pretty fair and were generously curved. There was also 5% extra credit for answering in class quiz questions on canvas which really helped
Great professor. Very solid lectures, lots of content so come with caffeine and pay attention. Everything in the lectures will be fair game on the midterms and final. Tests are graded very heavily, but make sure to do quizzes and other smaller assignments as you'll have the opportunity to redo them until you get 100% on them respectively.
Personally I passed the first midterm, flopping the other two exams, with my best effort in coursework, and quizzes, not attending lectures for the last half of the quarter and was still able to pass with a C. This course requires a good amount of effort, and studying, but you can still pass. As for Levkoff, he is a great straight foward professor.
Very Inspirational. Though I learned some AP micro(did not take test though) before attending his classes I still learned a lot. Problem Set and solutions, past exams offered so that you will have many opportunity to check your progress in learning. Prepare HEAVILY for exams.
Extremely helpful in answering questions, good lectures, and providing exam preparation material. Class is definitely passable if you put the work in. Read the chapters before lecture to get context and keep up with practice problem sets to avoid the need to cram for exams. Overall grade curve is much appreciated (basically rose two letter grades).
Levkoff is the man. Great lectures, clear grading criteria, and zero bullshit. I learned a ton just through his lectures, and the weekly quizzes genuinely helped prepare me for the exams, which often were just copied from the quizzes. As for the exams, they were reasonable, and nothing was unexpected. There wasn't much homework, either.
Levkoff is very knowledgable on the material. His lectures are clear and easy to follow. Tests are fair but beware of weekly quizzes. Unlimited attempts but questions are randomized every time and it doesn't tell you which ones you got wrong.
A big workload and lectures cover a lot of topics, but a great professor!
pretty good professor and explains things good in class. has quizzes but they have unlimited attempts. also has homework. he provides problem sets and old exams which helps with studying for tests. the only thing was that some questions on the midterms and final were difficult, especially in the second midterm.
Overall tough class and I pretty much taught myself all the content because most of the time his slides didn't make sense to me. The lectures are recorded which is nice. He does curve the grade because his midterm and final are difficult. I was initially scared of taking this because the midterm & final are 45% each, but the study guide helped.
Lecture heavy, needed to watch the lecture recording to do well on exams. 45% midterm 45% final. Midterm was simple and straightforward, final was difficult. I mostly self taught. Professor Levkoff is a great lecturer though! Enjoyed the class, tests are heavily curved.
No lecture notes for students to review, the recording is blurry, and almost all discussion session recordings have no sound and subtitles. The test is hard and confusing. Go for another teacher if you can.
hes pretty chill, but I personally didn't really understand his lectures that well. the final was really difficult.
If you have to take econ 4 take it with him. Class is extremely hard and final was very very hard. But he has a very large curve. I got a 40% on the final still ended up with a B-. Also 5% extra credit for filling out a 2 second survey every week.
The professor by himself is great but this class was very hard for me because the concepts sounded like a foreign language. I am grateful that the professor had his online lectures because they helped me. Also, he was very kind by allowing us to have several attempts at the assignments and quizzes. The final was the only thing that crushed me.
Levkoff's ECON1 is a challenging course, but worth the effort. Engaging lectures, fair tests, and helpful quizzes make it manageable. Unstuck study's AI-powered practice problems were a game-changer for exam prep. Overall, a rewarding learning experience.
Professor Levkoff made a class of 500 students feel engaging. His lectures were clear and he made concepts applicable to real life which made them easier to understand.
this is the type of class where if you get it, you get it, and if you don't, you have to struggle away at all your quizzes and spend hours on numerous attempts to get full points.
I love Steve, his teaching makes you feel included and is fun being part of his lecture as it doesn't feel boring or time passes very slowly. I would say he's amazing but the only thing I dislike would be the LRQ and quizzes because they are so annoying to deal with. Although they give you unlimited tries It takes me hours to get a decent score.
Great Professor! He posts the old exams which are extremely helpful. Quizzes and LRPs do take a long time, but you have unlimited attempts. The midterms are pretty easy.
I love his lectures; I am genuinely engaged and interested in the content during them. You will need to prepare quite a bit for the exams, but everything you need to know is said in lectures. Do the problem sets and past exams; they are extremely similar to the exams. Quizzes and LRPs are annoying; trial and error works, so team up with people.
Honestly this class wasn't too bad, funny guy, but he's one of the harder professors that teaches econ. His lectures are detailed, not too boring, discussions help a ton too. The tests are a lot like the practice exams that he posts, so it's always clear what to expect. Also quizzes have unlimited attempts so take advantage of that to boost grade.
Don't expect it to be like AP Econ (except the beginning). Make sure to study every possible outcome because I didn't learn to calculate integrals because I thought the length and height would be provided for us but it wasn't so I got a bad score. He overexplains things but it helps sometimes just don't get confused.
He over-explains EVERYTHING, but the TA discussion sections are really helpful. Not necessarily and easy A, but not like the worst class ever. Put some effort in and you'll be fine. The quizzes are unlimited attempts and honestly harder than the actual midterms and finals. Midterms and Final are 80% of your grade, but he curves a lot.
Ok, so I get it a lot of people like Levcoff—he's easy, has a few assignments, and throws a quiz here and there. But man, he drags out explanations just to make one small point. A two-hour lecture is equivalent to 13-minute YouTube video. If you want an A, be prepared to put in the work. 200+ lecture slides for one answer is crazy work my guy.
Don't believe the good reviews, this is one of the worst lecturer in UCSD ECON. His tests are unnecessarily hard, and the are graded heavily. No partial credit, I almost ended up with an A-. His lectures are very confusing and he waste time going through easy concepts, and skim through the hard ones.
LRP and quizzes can be difficult, but unlimited attempts so they are ultimately a grade booster. Exams can significantly vary in difficulty. Grading rubric can be quite harsh, very possible to get 0/10 on some questions. He gives 5% extra credit as long as you do the LSQs. Slide decks are very useful for studying material outside of class.
Severely underestimated this class relative to my harder math/programming courses considering its reputation for being "easy". Professor is clear and is pretty engaging considering the subject. It's pretty easy to lose points on assessments if you're not focused during podcasts/lectures (2x speed not advised).
Biweekly quizzes you can retake. Good but dull lectures. Advertised some stupid AI thing he sits on the board of which was annoying. You could learn all the content from the quizzes and reviewing the practice exams in Canvas. Very chill in general.
Dr. Levkoff was a great professor! I took the class for a GE, expecting it to be easy but severely underestimated the difficulty, especially math-wise. He overexplains a lot but I honestly didn't mind this. The curve is pretty solid, there are lots of opportunities to bring your grade up, and you can tell he really wants you to succeed.
Dr. Levkoff is one of the best professors I've encountered at UCSD! Everything is podcasted, his lectures and slide decks are very clear. He gives bi-weekly online quizzes that can be repeated without penalty. They tend to be much harder than his exams and are great practice for them. Midterms and final are very short, easy, and straightforward!
hrrible professor would never tae him again
Great lecturer and will really help you feel passionate for microeconomics during class, which I normally find dull and enjoy macro much more. I will say compared to a lot of other economics courses, his always have the most online assignments (quizzes etc.). Would be fine if it wasn't graded but it can impact your chances at an A given the curve.
Didn't attend a single lecture but watched all his podcasts on Canvas. Exams have tricky wording, but you just need to understand his grading style. There's a very specific way of answering that he looks for. To study make sure you do practice problems, all the LRPs and Quizzes and most importantly look at previous exams and the answer keys.
quizzes and lrp's are hard but you have unlimited attempts (though you don't know what you get wrong). practice exams are somewhat useful for midterm/final. read the wording of exam questions really well so you don't lose major points on easy questions. watch lecture recordings in 2x since he overexplains. final is so much easier than the midterms.
Good Lecturer. The homework can be tedious, but if you go to lecture, you should do well. The tests problems are very fair and not too hard.
Decent professor but lots of time needed for quizzes and lecture review problems graded outside class.
No cheats sheets are allowed on exams which is a bit frustrating considering how most Econ 100 series allow one. Exams are harder than the provided sample exams and the grading is tough. Slide decks can also be hard to dissect and articulate without attending lectures (or watching recorded lectures) since there are too many slides.
Lectures were pretty good, lots of examples and covered material very thoroughly. Quizzes and lrps were kinda difficult and took a lot of time but were harder than the questions on the midterm and finals.
very solid class and nice professor, he is knowledgable about the material. not too much homework and tests are fair, just keep up with the class and lectures!
Very charismatic when teaching, however, his test content is very difficult and not what I expected from lecture. I went to every lecture and spent time working on problem sets that are insanely difficult compared to what is taught. Unfortunate...
exams were too difficult 2 midterms and 1 final both of the midterm averages are around 50 out of 100 final is 40% of your grade
I am terrible at econ, but Professor Levkoff grades the final grades and exams A LOT so I passed. Neither lecture nor discussion attendance is required, but both are very beneficial to passing the exams. Take advantage of prof & TA office hours! Just don't fall behind on the weekly assignments and do the practice problems; you can at least get a C!
His slides jump around a lot from concept to concept. Absolutely no flow in this class at all. He only explains the general concepts in lectures, doesn't actually teach you how to apply the concepts to a problem. Tbh kinda disappointed bc hella people said he was a goated prof
Prof. Levkoff is very kind, but his TA's /rubric are absolutely ruthless in terms of grading. Attending lectures is good to get you to stay on top of things. I would recommend rewatching them since they are fast paced & this class has material you need to chew on to grasp. Good professor, bad grading and evaluation. Standard combination I think.
Very interesting material but non-constructive grading structure. Curves aren't big enough from the distributions we see - most people get below the median score and he doesn't really curve the exams from what I can tell. Most people scored approximately 30-40% on the midterm that is 30% of their grade. Make of that what you will.
Didn't really feel like we got enough practice for the mid term and final. Most of the content is very theoretical for an accounting class I wish we would have had more examples on how to apply the theory, but unfortunately there just wasn't enough examples. Quizzes and hw are just multiple choice with really no applicable examples to prepare you.
Tests are harder than the practice exam, and no access is given to past exams. barely any space to write / work out problems on the exam. doesn't curve exams as well as he should - there are graduate students taking the course that pull the curve up.
DON'T EVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! I attended lecture and studied so much and the test was not at all reflective of any of the practice finals. Everyone I know bombed the final worth 40% of our grade. His curves are horrible as well. Unnecessarily tough exams.
DO NOT TAKE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. Goes over lecture slides way too quickly and focuses only on theory, completely neglecting applications. Not only that, but the quizzes and problem sets only show the most basic applications of the course content while the exams asked us applications of course content we've never seen. Hardest econ exams @ ucsd.
Levkoff podcasts lectures which I definitely had to rely on because the syllabus is packed with so many topics and not enough time to digest them in class. Harsh grading criteria for his T/F questions – half of your points are slashed if you miss one key term. He curves but I honestly don't know if it's enough based on the test statistics he posts.
Curve will save you. Lecture and Disc are optional. Quizzes are open book unlimited attempts but time consuming. Exams are difficult, focus on the practice exam problems to apply lecture material to actual problems. Pay the $30 for the extra AI platform, Uflo, unfair but he posts extra exams there and the ai tutor helped me a lot.
Prof. Levkoff is very straightforward when it comes to teaching, and is a bit funny. Lectures are recorded which is helpful as there is a lot of material covered. Exams are quite difficult but he does curve which did help me a bit. Would recommend watching any supplemental videos and working on the problem sets to be well prepared for the exams.
Pretty decent curve at end of class.
Had a difficult time paying attention to class, Professor Levkoff is an energetic person but I wasn't able to absorb the material well. Had to pay for the AI website to gain access to his online lectures and practice study material which helped me significantly. Curve was pretty high at the end as well.
He's honestly one of the best you can ask for. I understand where some people come from when saying that he "overcomplicates things," but I do feel it is necessary to understand the whole concept. Barely any homework and there are quizzes, but you do them online and you get unlimited attempts to get a 100%. Midterm is way easier than the quizzes.
Levkoff is literally my diva. He has an AI made by a past student that you can use on all assignments, quizzes, practice midterm, and practice final. It's extremely helpful. The midterm and final are extremely reasonable and go along with the assignments and practice tests. Highly recommend
Very chill professor. Attendance isn't mandatory for anything other than tests. Have to purchase AI assistant program $40 per quarter, all assignments are on there. Midterm is worth 20% of grade and final is worth 40%, all other assignments are super easy but grade matters on exams only pretty much but def recommend very easy class tbh.
ive had the pleasure of taking econ 1 with levkoff, he is an amazing professor who clearly loves the subject he teaches. his class is genuinely for people to just learn and you can tell that he doesn't want anyone to fail. he provides plenty of resources that will guarantee your success in the grade and is an awesome prof.
Incredible professor, enjoyable lectures, quizzes are online and super fair, engaging, and really cares for his students. offers so much material to help prepare and the practice questions are actually useful for midterms/finals. he loves what he does and you can tell, definitely recommend!!!
He's so kind. Attendance isn't mandatory unless its a test day, and he records and posts every lecture + slides and notes. I honestly never went to class and just watched all the lectures two days before the midterm and final and got an A. His lectures are so helpful and organized. He's easily one of the best professors I've had.
Prof is very very generous and kind. Adds "fudge" points at the end and is super understanding in general. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you do go, he makes the lectures fun. Otherwise, every lecture is already prerecorded on canvas. Uses an ai system to help you learn which is pretty funny too. Gave us free test questions so we could all pass.
Worst professor at UCSD. He doesn't use the canvas system to grade assignments and has his own website, UFLO where it's extremely difficult to know what grade you have in the class. His final reviews are not helpful at all and makes exams so much harder (no multiple choice only long answer). Save yourself and don't take his class.
2 tests make up 65% of ur grade which wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that he offers ZERO partial credit on tests which is absurd considering all his questions are multipart (yes I lost TWELVE percent on a test because of one single mistake). Midterm was graded by TAs, I HOPE, because the final was literally AI GRADED. YES. AI GRADED.
Pros: He's very funny (dry humor) and connects his class to present day news and topics. No attendance is taken for either discussion or lecture. He podcasts all of his lectures. Cons: Overall grade is mostly dependent on midterm and final. Both the midterm and final is all free response. Doesn't use canvas and have to pay for his ai website.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF! His exams are extremely difficult. His lectures are extremely boring and also he overexplains a lot. You have to buy this AI to access your assignments and quiz. Wouldn't recommend taking this class if you think it's a free A unless you have to. Many people that did well on the midterm ended up doing way worse on the final.
Lectures were so boring and he over explains everything. Lectures are not informative or stimulating at all, they were a huge waste of time as he takes an entire hour to explain a concept that i could've learned in a 30 second youtube short. He uses AI to grade the final which was annoying. Exams were aight & he gives out useful practice tests.
I am convinces this professor gave up on his teaching career, he moves like a snail during lectures with the cadence of heavy mud water, posts almost no resources with the exception being an AI with a quarter of the usefulness of ChatGPT that we have to PAY for, and worst of all, the crappy AI, almost as robotic as Levkoff, grades the final.
Don't listen to the review bombing from people salty about not understanding econ or getting a good grade. He's a genuinely good and kind professor who explains concepts thoroughly, WHICH IS THE POINT OF ECON! He gives fudge points on take home work, and you can learn a lot from his lectures and just talking to him. One downside is the paywall.
This professor teaches well, but I never found his lectures really intriguing to me. I studied for the finals using the lecture slides & fully understanding those concepts instead of paying attention during his lectures. Class is pretty straightforward, tests are short response & pretty much you know it or don't. Crammed last week and got an A.
Midterm + final make up 65% of your grade. The final is unnecessarily hard, I got a 95% on the midterm but the final was genuinely horrible. His final is also graded by an AI platform, which we have to pay for because it also grades all of our assignments. The AI was the most useless thing ever. Don't take him unless you absolutely have to!!
Professor Levkoff cares about his students and it shows. I got a 73% on the final and still ended up with an A- because he curves based on the class average. Attendance is not mandatory so I just skip and watch lectures on 2x speed.
Very very sweet guy and very understanding, the lectures and discussions are completely optional and the Uflo program he uses is super easy to use and is really helpful and benefitial. He is a good teacher and provides a lot of resources, from lots of review sessions to practice tests. He also gives plenty of ways to get a good grade in his class.
Great lectures overall, but they can be a bit boring and it's easy to get lost during class. Lectures are podcasted and all materials are posted on Uflo, his AI website. The midterm was straightforward, but the final was extremely confusing and AI graded, no partial credit (I got a 49%). Thankfully, he gave a generous curve at the end.
Fair midterm. Final had more computation but still very doable. Many questions were similar to ones on reviews/review sessions/discussions. You have to actually understand the material since tests are FRQ-based. His lecture slides are very thorough so I suggest reviewing them. Definitely recommend for Econ majors but you will have to study a bit.
Got assigned a wrong grade for the class, and bro's gonna make me wait until week two of next quarter to fix this??? Enjoy your break all you want, but let me enjoy my break without the worry of my grade staying like this???
Homework are all multiple choice questions, but midterm and final are all frqs, which were unnecessarily hard. Have to pay for the AI website to do homework (the AI was most worst thing). Boring lectures and unclear ppts.
Professor uses proprietary AI course system which is often confusing and unclear on its grading criteria. Lectures and slides are extremely unintuitive, and he bans calculus from being used to solve problems where it's useful, and instead forces students to use area functions that he has made up. AI platform grades inconsistently and often wrongly.
Good and fun lecturer but easy to get lost in lecture. Exams were hard but quizzes give you a small preview of the difficulty of said exams. Small paywall for class, but overall a fun experience.
Prof uses AI model for quizzes and course content, which is confusing to navigate and grades quizzes inconsistently. Very clear about course deliverables and exam content. Attend lectures and the review sessions and you'll be fine.
Attendance wasn't mandatory in Lecture or discussion but I recommend going because lectures were sometimes confusing. Weekly quizzes help you practice and are free points. The midterm was easy, but the final was really hard and the AI platform is mostly annoying. He does seem like he wants the best for his students and curves the final grade.
His lectures were good but sometimes confusing. I would suggest going to the optional discussions if confused. Uses an online AI platform instead of a textbook for small homework assignments and quizzes. The midterm and final are all FRQ but he provides very similar practice exams. He also curves generously at the very end of the quarter.
Final difficult
Easy class Nothing more to say
I get mixed signals from Levkoff because he does not reply to emails unless you threaten to attend OH, so I don't think he wants to interact with his students. But he's chill when you talk to him. The final exam was graded by AI. I would still take him again because the assignment deadlines are very straightforward and the exams are fairly easy.
The midterm and finals are not that difficult. He gives practice midterm/finals which are very similar in format to the actual exams. He used Uflo for assignments and quizzes and it was very helpful.
Not the worst, but personally didn't enjoy, disliked lecturing style- pretty dense, not very engaging, can be confusing. my advice: STAY ON TOP OF LECTURES/CONTENT, lectures recorded, but goes through slides for entire 80 min period (can go through 60+ slides in just 1 lecture)- easy to fall behind/get lost even by missing 1 or 2 classes/recordings
Levkoff was a great professor and ECON 1 was overall very easy with the caveat that the final was pretty hard. Lectures are not mandatory but I'd highly recommend going as many people fell behind and failed the final. Lots of opportunities to bolster grade with infinite-attempt quizzes and surveys. I crammed for every test and was fine.
W prof. wants to give you marks
Kind professor, content gets confusing after midterm. Midterm and final makes up 65 percent of your grade otherwise the other 25% is basically free. Over complicated things during lectures. Can be confusing at times. All lectures recorded. Attendance optional for lectures and discussion
Final was extremely difficult. Midterm/test are much harder than practice quizzes/practice tests assigned on uflo. Doesn't update grades AT ALL during the quarter. Only grade I had on canvas until AFTER finishing my final was my midterm grade.
The midterm and final make up about 65% of the grade. Lectures and discussions are optional but difficult to find engaging and confusing at times. The practice exams he releases on Uflow are similar to the exams. He doesn't update grades until the end of the quarter. I personally found little interest in the class.
